The crowd is a good mix of locals and hipsters alike. On the day staff were a little short handed but everyone was friendly and helpful. We only shared wings and chips which were both pretty awesome.

This is a great pub, however very surprising that even though it’s based in Carlton they’ll show a Melbourne based game (Carlton v Essendon) on the small TV and instead play the WA derby on the big screen (Freo v West Coast)? The pub was packed and there were lots of unhappy local AFL fans… I wouldn’t have gone to watch the footy there if I had known this would happen.

This little gem in the side streets of Brunswick. Even though this place looks small and not like much on the side of the street. We walked in and there was heaps of atmosphere and the dining room took me be by surprise . Amazing food and reasonably priced beers. Would recommend this place for anyone looking for a cheap bite and beer!

A good sports bar that has a nice selection of beers. I enjoyed the service but I found this portion sizes of the meals to be lacking. It's not ideal when you need to stop off on the way home for a second feed. It can get very busy so keep that in mind.

Came for the first time on a trivia night. The trivia was really well organised and the host was really entertaining and the powerpoint was absurdly high qual. Despite being completely packed out, the staff exuded chill and good vibes and Imogen in particular was exceptional. My entire table and I want her to be our friend. They had one entry and a separate exit, adhering to covid rules. In the bar inside you needed to wear a mask (when not eating or drinking) but in the beer garden you didn't need it. Food was great, we had wedges, chips and salt and pepper calamari. Its a fab beer garden with dogs welcome, some sheltered parts and others with umbrellas. Only disappointing thing was no cocktails!

We went here for a birthday party last Saturday night. The pub was able to seat our group inside at short notice due to the rain. We received a very friendly and professional welcome and service during the evening. Our various dinners were very good, generous portions and there's a great selection of beers to try. One of Melbourne's great pubs!

Have long been a fan of the GNH, but hadn't had a chance to pop in since the second lockdown ended. Dropped by for a couple of pints at the bar after dinner last night and couldn't have been happier! It had clearly been a hectic evening, but the staff were cool, calm and gracious (they were even being nice to each other!) It's good to have you back, pub.

Been here twice for farewells, food and drinks are decent but both times i have been on weekends it was just way too busy once past 7.30pm. Standing room only. Parking is pretty difficult to find also. Otherwise a nice venue, that is "family friendly" and dog friendly. But its best to visit when not crowded.

The service was friendly, although we got a bit of cheek from one of the fellas because he had to go back and get us tobasco, even though it was because it was him who hadn't heard us ask for it. My favourite local pub. Unpretentious and cosy. A great place to meet up with friends, have a quiet beer. They have heaps of good beers on tap and decent food. They also have a great beer garden out back which is the perfect way to spend a summer's evening. They have somehow found the perfect balance whereby people wanting to watch sport on a large screen ( in the beer garden) can coexist with families, and other people just catching up with friends for a quiet drink. It all just send to work. All in all its just a great pub with checking out.

One of the great pubs in Melbourne, and it keeps getting better too. The beer list is sensational (and always has been). The have a great menu, and there is a diverse amount of areas to the pub ; sit on the street, in the garden, play pool in the front bar, sit in the bistro!

Visited this pub on a Saturday afternoon around 3pm and spent all of my time in the beer garden. The atmosphere was great here, with family's, people with their dogs and hops growing all around the place. The selection of beers on tap was good and the food was also tasty, I only had the chips but the other people around me were enjoying the other meals this place has to offer. No smoking outside in the beer garden, this includes vaping so you'll need to step out into the street.

A really good spot! Huge (YUGE) pub with a big beer garden, a lively front bar, and a massive bistro type seated area in the middle. It's the Victorian home of the mighty Fremantle Dockers so it gets five stars for that too, but the amazing beer list also contributes to this glowing rating. Best pub for UFC in the area too.

This is a fantastic pub. The beers change with the seasons. In winter they have many dark beers on tap which is a fairly rare find for a long these days. There is a good outdoor courtyard and plenty of TVs to watch sport on. There are also areas to hold functions.

Nice beer garden and ok selection of beers but when i was there the staff were pretty rude and dismissive at the bar. It was quite quiet just after the kitchen closed but nowhere near closing time for the venue. A bartender served me a jug then disappeared without giving me any glasses. Just little things like that made the vibe not so great. Anyone else might have a much better experience.

OK pub in Carlton Went for a drink with colleague after work. Bar is a bit dark and gloomy with the ubiquitous sports-tuned flatscreen TV on the wall competing with you for conversation. Staff were pretty busy so was a bit slow service but friendly and efficient once you got their attention. They do serve hot snacks which is a nice change from having to eat potato chips with a drink :) Pretty kid and family friendly... the kind of place you'd go for a Parma and a beer but not the sort of place if you want to impress your companion

Arrived here as a stranger in the middle of the staff Christmas party . . . and made welcome all the same. Well done! The GNH was full of locals, staff, local dogs, staff dogs, salty dogs of every variety. Sort of like dropping into someone's living room, but it worked. Such a relaxed and friendly vibe. Probably just a one-off, but ordinary Fridays must be awesome. The venue has a sort of shabby gentility to it. More shabby than genteel, OK, but we dig it. Felt like we were among friends with nothing to prove. If I lived within a klick this would be my local. Great beer selection. Government's still taxing it into oblivion, though. What more can I say. Minus one point for sports TV. Sports TV is for kenidiots and the permanently lonely. Pubs are supposed to help people like that, not make things worse. Why? Stop it! Please! I'll drive by tomorrow - if I see the TVs out on the footpath, you get the fifth star you deserve. Deal?

Went there on Saturday for lunch with my son who's coeliac and food paranoid, emailed ahead to check that the menu would be ok and got a response back letting me know all would be ok. Arrived there and let them know again and about the food allergy and was reassured they could help and can I say as a parent to a coeliac child who's massively paranoid about getting glutened this was a major relief. Ordered lunch and the apprentice human decided on the chicken wings sans hot sauce which the kitchen thought would be the most appealing option to Mr 11. The Chef however had some concern over the seasoning that the was on the wings and came to the table to let us know he was not 100 % confident and instead offered a variety of other options he could make personally and guarantee to be safe. This made my son feel very, very comfortable and indeed he smashed his way through the Calamari he chose. Brilliant pub and even more brilliant staff, thank you for being so accommodating.

We booked this hotel with a month of advance so we only paid $246 for 3 nights , very good location , near the South cross station and Yarra River.
