What a night!! Came here with my sisters on the weekend and had an absolute ball. The cocktails were fantastic and food was great. They moved locations but it’s still just as good. I love the antique interior it’s like stepping into Europe! 😍

My partner introduced me to this place. We were greeted with a smile and were given a table on the roodtop. I must say that I really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. You can tell that the staff there were passionate about their jobs, especially the chef and kitchen staff, the foods were meticulously prepared with their heart and soul. The hidden effrontery of 'State of Grace' is the ultimate 'Fall from Grace' , an hidden bar that's as exciting as the entrance to the bar. Some amazing drinks, beautiful ambience, nice music makes a perfect spot for a special date or a party!! Not costly at all, soon becoming one of the best bars in Melbourne, loved every moment spent here.

Nothing beats a roof top bar with a perfect city view. The roof top is open air so you have to be lucky with the weather, dress warm if in winter and pray you get a good clear night as there wasnt alot of undercover if they were fully booked. Great food, friendly service, perfect views.

Loved the gnocchi, and the convenience!! Patrons are encouraged to order via their app, and check on while we're at it. The whole process is seamless, and service is quick and courteous. Oh, and chandeliers, chandeliers everywhere, I swear I can hear Sia somewhere. The gnocchi is on a league of it's own, it's akin to taking a bite of clouds. Light, fluffy, perfectly seasoned and buttered. With a generous helping of peas and croutons with gratings of cheese. I'll definitely be back for more!

Still a wonderful place, maybe one of my favourites. Please just leave if they use the app Mr Yum, just walk out. Four people wasted so much energy just ordering and ended up ordering way too much. Sorry a unpleasant experience, which we had then to pay for ... Never again. Loved the feeling of the place, the friendly service and a better than average glass of house wine. They also have a secret downstairs bar, awesome, fun, totally smiling while thinking about it. I am planning to take a group there as there are tables big enough for eight to easily sit around and chat, which is not as common as it sounds.

Came here for a work function, and had a set menu. The food was amazing! The deep fried halloumi and the steak were both heavenly! However, the team were definitely understaffed that night. While they did their best, it took a while for both drinks and food to come out. Having more staff on during busier times would definitely have made this a top-notch experience.

I love everything about State of Grace and this was my first time at Higher Grace. This is the first time I had been here since they moved venues and nice to see they have kept the secret bookcase and funky vibe of the place. I went here as part of the large group and had a set meal dinner. The standout was the dessert; the bread and butter pudding was awesome The entrees were pretty nice and the mains were reasonable. A good place to go and unwind.

Great atmosphere and presentation of food! Scallop & black pudding entree was really well done! The pork was very tasty but there simply wasn’t enough of it. I felt the dishes edged on the side of fine dining, something a little more substantial would have been preferred. Steaks were good too, done to perfection. The State of Grace is a bar on multi levels. This includes a rooftop bar, which is great on warm evenings and a restaurant on the ground floor. We were going to have drinks on the rooftop however on this evening (and probably others) it was very busy so we decided to explore the bar on the basement level. The entrance is not obvious. To get there we walked down a secret set of stairs where framed mirrors hung on the walls and a chandelier shone from above. When we got to the bottom we reached the hidden bar. It was a large dimly lit and uniquely decorated area, creating a great atmosphere. It was totally unlike the rooftop bar above and much less noisy. The State of Grace has a large range of cocktails, many of which our group tried. The waiter was friendly and helpful. The waitress who served the drinks wasn't familiar with the cocktails she was serving but it wasn't a big deal. Was quite impressed with the place and would like to return to try the food. (2021) Having relocated, it's nice to see the hidden bar has been kept, with an addition to a rooftop. These areas do seem to lack the grandiose of the show piece main floor, so I'd recommend the latter for your dining pleasure. (2012) One of my favourite ritzy bars in Melbourne, stupidly fancy and decked out, the highlight of which, is definitely Fall From Grace. The interactive 'reveal' of the cellar bar adds a playful touch to the serious business nature of this venue. Brought some visiting friends here for some truly tantalising cocktails and a sensory overload. They loved the experience. All the well chosen furnishings, design scheme and layout, encapsulates a high-class social space tailored to fit.

One of the classy venues in Melbourne, the venue has been titled very apt as ‘state of grace’. Hospitality is top notch, brilliant cocktails. Absolutely loved the secret bar downstairs if you know your way. Great detailing, so much to explore. Had a great experience here. Started up on the rooftop. An awesome atmosphere, cocktails are ready made in jars, so there's not a big wait. The pumpkin pizza was fantastic, and the fried halloumi - who knew strawberry was it's best friend? Went down to the underground bar for some more drinks, table service. Cool hidden entry. Had the best cocktail of my life - the Raspberry Beret. Just like raspberry lindt chocolate. So good!

Had no idea State of Grace existed until I was told to meet there. This place was an unexpected find with the intention to start here as a place to drink and kick on - ended up staying all night. We drank at every level and keep switching spots which Is a unique experience. usually you go to a bar, drink in one spot then leave. So much detail to explore here on so many levels, like a playground. The service was fantastic we were looked after very well. The gnocchi was delicious. Normally I drink on the other end of town as I didn’t think I’d find any decent bars on King street. This is a hidden little gem you can stay on a Friday night - a stylish, delicious, lovely and mysterious bar with stellar service and interesting stories to tell.

Went as part of the Melbourne food and wine festival to enjoy a set dinner experience.From what it was advertised as - hero-ing classic chefs, it was quite a disappointment. The event was quite below par compared to the usually great offerings of food and wine we’ve had in the past festivals. While the venue was welcoming and quirky, the food and wine offering was wanting. Ordinary wine and some shortcuts in the food was not to standard expected for the price. Wont be back.

some serious service shortcoming since my more enthusiastic last review. Food is great and cannot fail decor and feel but the wine list is in need of serious attention as a number of wines are unavailable and some wrongly priced. Service is where it undoes at the seems with inexperienced staff, delays in beverage service and lack of experience in rectifying mistakes- however to their credit compensation was offered to make amends for what could have otherwise been a disappointing experience.

This is an ace bar. Frankly, sitting amongst library books for a drink is perfection for me, so it's hard for these chaps to go wrong. Only noteworthy point is that Fall From Grace was closed (Monday, understandable) but for all those cuties seeking a fun cocktail bar entry there was no signage saying it was closed. I think they ought to keep the door active but have a sign inside to save the constant chasing of rogue entries.

Feels very clinical, no real service atmosphere. Heaps of anti consumer rules that make no real sense. Not a staff issue, is a venue issue, management are obviously the ones pulling the strings. What kind of bar doesn't allow you to sit or stand at the bar anywhere? It's not even being used as a service area. The venue wasn't close to capacity or anything so I can't really see any excuses.

Stumbled across this place with the help of some locals. Main bar is really nice, bit of a 50s theme going on. There's a secret bookcase that takes you down to a hidden bar, love the concept. There's also a rooftop bar. Plenty of cocktails to try and the staff are helpful and friendly. Go for the decor, stay for the drinks!

The rooftop bar Is fabulous . Spacious and definitely a feel good place to relax with a drink and a bite to eat. The restaurant has a lovely menu, to suit most palettes. Fallen Grace, (with the secret bookcase entry) basement bar is so very quaint and comfortable, you feel like you can just sink into the couches. The cocktails are tasty and very well made. Overall, the decor is elegant eclectic and very interesting, it catches your interest and easily stimulates conversation .

A great place for a drink or for lunch. I was a regular visitor at the old State of Grace on Collins Street and this is a very different space. However, the service was fantastic when we visited for lunch, and I can imagine whiling the hours away on the beautiful old couches downstairs when I next visit for a drink! I had the lunch risotto special, my friend had the steak. Both of us left very happy but ready for more champagne!

Unique ambiance with a variety of mounted taxidermy. Went for a drink at the main level bar before dinner and checked out the rooftop bar (was pretty just a bit cold). The actual restaurant is on the ground level and then upstairs past the bar. Beef cheeks for dinner were cooked perfectly and went well with sides of brussel sprouts, potatoes, and green beans. Will return (when warmer) to enjoy the rooftop bar!

Good food and better cocktails - try the State of Grace (their take on an Espresso Martini) and their Hemingway Daiquiri. Staff are super nice, friendly and helpful. We loved finding the secret door and going down to the hidden bar, which has speakeasy vibes and is decorated wall-to-wall with interesting little things (tip: look up). There's heaps of room to sit with lots of lounges for big groups and arm chairs for smaller groups. Had a great night, definitely revisiting when we go back to Melbourne.

Unfortunately my experience here was let down by the bar staff. Had waited in line for about 15 mins in line only to be told that when I got to the front to go and line up on the other side of the bar and had to wait another 10 minutes before I frantically waved at bar staff to serve me as other staff seemed to have serving preferences. Luckily the bartender that served me later was apologetic. Apart from this food service speed was average and the underground bar area was a cool feature. Probably would consider twice before I come here again.

State of Grace has wonderful Decor and looks so pretty among all the drab 80's office buildings! The chairs out the front are made out of old road signs which look wonderful! However we were on a mission to get to the hidden bar that takes a bit of effort to find. I wont spoil the process, but thank you to a helper coming out of the toilets we were able to find Fall From Grace. We were not disappointed - such a cool little hidden bar that had plenty of patrons - we were lucky to get a nice and comfortable set of chairs! Bar service is a bit slow but the wait is worth it. The drinks are great and fairly reasonably priced for Cocktails in Melbourne. Table numbers are stuck on old books for a lovely kitschy effect. Will be returning and less nervous as we know how to get there!

Roof top bar was seething and already crowded with standing room only at 4.30 pm so we retreated downstairs and had an enjoyable evening with good service from staff. I am not sure why venues assume that patrons want amplified music all the time. I long for a bar that has a "quiet zone" where you can chat with your friends without having to shout. State of .Grace generally avoids drowning out its patrons' conversations but occasionally some member of staff turns it up to 11. Otherwise, great to see this place back in action after a couple of years break. Not so sure about the giraffe though. Hopefully, it is artificial.

State Of Grace is not exactly my type of place, a little too posh, but the decor is stunning. Fall From Grace is much more inviting and is much nicer in my opinion, the entrance is also great (behind the book case!).
