Comments of Sail and Anchor

This restaurant is the next stop for shoppers of Freo Market across the lane. It is always packed with patrons in the evening on Friday and weekends. I remembered I waited a long time just to grab a chair during that peak hour. This morning I popped by wanting to grab away a coffee. The barista told me to wait until 10 am. But I had to go. I will return for the coffee despite Little Creature may merry go round in my head. Cheers! (2021-10)

Our favourite little hideout in Fremantle. Located opposite Fremantle weekend market, this little corner is a great place to hang out with friends, family members and your special someone. Not only it serve great bites and snacks, it serves tasty meals too with great selection of hot and cold beverages. We usually come for its Lively atmosphere mostly weekends. Service is fast. Recommended!

Great food and service. Food and drinks reasonably priced

Classic Freo watering hole. Top balcony for a refreshing sunset drink.

Had tea here to honour our good riding mate Damo, staff were fantastic and understanding in our time of sadness,

Was too warm inside. Not enough cooling on a hot night. Food was good. And, they allowed us to park our bikes there.

Had been a while since coming here. Was one of the go to venues in the late eighties and in that period when pubs...especially in Perth and Adelaide... were being restored and renovated making for exciting new venues. Much more progressive at that time compared to the Eastern states. Most were selling their own home brew... way before beards and craft labels ever existed!
Walking in now was like stepping back in time. Nothing much has changed and I am really happy about that. It felt like coming home! Still a great pub for a beer with mates.

Craft beers, great food and friendly staff. Great place to relax and have a few $7 Swan Draught pints. Beautifully renovated heritage old school pub with all the best mod cons and a bottle shop. Near to the Freo Markets. Loved this pub for over 20 years. And they brew on site.

Friendly staff and tasty food. Fremantle Sardines were excellent. Took a little while to arrive but wasn't too bad for a Friday night.
A. G.
Good selection of beer and very spacious place. It has a balcony and bar upstairs as well as an outdoor area, bar and restautant downstairs.
The atmosphere is good but the service not so much. They took too long to take our orders. The menu is varied. Most of the dishes come with chips but they aren't very good and the portion isn't very generous.

Sail and Anchor staff went above and beyond for my son's 21st Birthday. The food was amazing, the service and professionalism fantastic from the organising to the end of the night. Everyone left feeling happy 😃. Thankyou so very much for making special

Top spot in the heart of freo, good place to have a beverage or 3. Upstairs provide's great views.
Heaps of beers on tap !
Always great service 👍

It’s located in a heritage building which is next to the Fremantle market. Good place to chill out with some nice food and drinks. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Food came fast in good portions and tasted great, will come again.

Nice bar relaxed feel. Staff are friendly and nice. Good to see a venue placing the words yorga and marmun even if its at the toilets most people wouldn't notice!
V. B.
Brilliant steak
Able to deal with our unique allergies

Balcony was nice but super noisy. The food was slow to come out and wasn't the best. We had guacamole which was missing a key ingredient and just tasted like smashed avocado. The sardines were really sweet, which was a weird flavour, the crab linguine had plenty of crab, but not much of anything else, and over cooked pasta. The chilli mussels were tasty. You can order on the app, which was nice. The drinks came quickly enough, food took a good hour. The wait staff need to learn to take dirty dishes back with them to the kitchen after dropping off plates.
R. C.
The seafood plate for 2 is a must have, and the lobster was cooked very well but could’ve had a bit more flavour. Nonetheless, the whole experience was 5 stars.
M. C.
We were a party of 8 and ordered different dishes and they all turned out perfectly the scotch fillet surf and turf medium rare just like I ordered with garlic prawns ,the fish pie was great ,seafood board for 2 awesome ,ribs and wings succulent tender and a perfect steak sandwich service was good the staff was good

The food was fabulous. Ordered the vegie burrito. Hubby got the grilled platter. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals.
Service was great too
Definitely be back again soon
Great pub. Great atmosphere.

Nice food, quality service and comfortable environment

15+ Craft beers on tap, frequently rotated and priced from $7 - $15 Weeknight food specials. Best balcony in Freo!
The Sail and Anchor is a Freo staple. They regularly have beer specials and an extensive pub food menu.
With a wrap around balcony, indoor and out door seating, bar (upstairs and down), restaurant out the back and bottle shop, there is not much that this centrally located pub doesn’t offer.
Oh, and it’s a beautiful old Period style building with extensive history. A must visit location if your touring and still one of our favourite local watering holes.

Awesome service great experience good management great place good food nice atmosphere

$15 for a delicious pasta and a pint of little creatures on Tuesday - how can you go wrong?!
Friendly staff
Gorgeous building
Amazing selection of beers on taps
$10 paddles
$8 pints of little creatures
All this adds up to a happy lass
r. m.
Afternoon lacked atmosphere due to lack of patrons, this was the only a minor criticism. Covit has changed the way we were, let's hope things improve quickly.
K. K.
Salmon is so crispy and taste good. Beef and fries are tasty also👍🏼
R.
The guys helping was funny as heck! Love their energy! And loved the tight walk in fridge.
D. b.
Always a ripper pub for a fancy pint or your ol favourite. Good food with heaps of different rooms inside to enjoy your beer including the iconic balcony. Open at 10 am and directly opposite Fremantle markets. Occasional live music, stand up and quiz nights.
T. M.
The dining room interior is gorgeous. I love the rope chandelier, I want it for my house. The food is tasty and there are options for vegetarians, vegans, and poor students that can't shell out $30 for a meal. I will say, I do miss their kimchi chips though.
M.
Very impressive range of craft plus standard beers. This place is a fremantle institution and I must admit that ALH have managed to maintain it's charm.
S. P.
Lovely food and atmosphere, especially the daily deals are an absolute must, good food and absolutely not expensive.
W. C.
Great Gin range... Awsome atmosphere... Amazing views of Fremantle.
A. L.
Good staff and no vax req for bottle shop. Phone can be left in the car
M. M.
One of the best meals in WA during our 14 day visit.

Not only just a lovely place to have a drink, the staff are amazing, went on a Saturday night with my sister as we have been here a few times and as I went to the bathroom I came back to someone making her uncomfortable. (This place or the people have never made us uncomfortable before) before I made it back to my seat an incredible staff member read the situation within a moment's notice, and wedged himself between the two of them and started a light conversation with us before the stranger got the idea to leave her alone. He was a tall blonde gentleman who was working at the front door most the night.
Thank you for making us feel so safe, you were lovely.

Restaurant was less than half full yet the staff were flat out. Understaffed. We were offered table service, I had to order at the counter from waiting too long. Then we were served the wrong wine and dirty wine glasses. The main arrived before the starters. The lamb was as tough as boot leather and the chicken sandwich had Kraft plastic cheese on it.
Overall a mediocre experience, the staff did all they could but I suspect an understaffed kitchen as well as a useless manager/owner.
G. P.
Came back a second time. Shared the gluten free salt and pepper squid, the pork belly, and the sweet potato fries. Tasty. We also shared a carafe of pink gin. Yum.

The staff here are so great and the food is always good, fresh and well priced. Olivia and the tall man at the bar who I think was a manager, both were amazing with customer service and asking for IDs/ refusing for intoxication (even though both Of their customers were getting annoyed about it) and they handled situations extremely well and calmly from what I could see! Will be back many times :)
S. H.
Lovely old building, very nice staff but probably the worst fish & chips I've ever had in Fremantle.
R. R.
Was cut off after my work Christmas party ended up here 😆 but staff and security were very kind and respectful about it.
P. M.
Nice place, good atmosphere - Right next to Freo markets with windows facing the street performers/buskers... Has a Wheat Beer, (Redback) on Tap... (Personal preference) Staff were friendly - we only ordered Chips and Beers, but both were good 👍👍👍
P. S.
Thank you Bianca for a great Experience.
The food was great and we very much enjoyed our time here.
K. T. L.
Nice authentic pub with rustic ambience. Nice selection of craft beer. Real Fireplace. Nice pit stop after a warm winter afternoon.
J.
This is an awesome pub with a nice relaxed atmosphere. The balcony upstairs offers a nice view of the main street in Fremantle. Go and visit the Sail and Anchor. You will enjoy it and want to go back again. A nice place to visit with lovely cold drinks. I highly recommend you go there. Cheers and cold beers!
L. W.
Very nice lunch, great friendly service at reasonable prices.
p. l.
Charming pub with good daily specials. Burger was drenched in barbecue sauce and was a bit overdone for my taste but still enjoyed it.
S.
Great atmosphere, love the variation of craft beers on tap every time I come here. Live band for the front bar but quiet in the back beer area. Love it here 😁
H.
Sailor-themed bar with amazing atmosphere.
Food was good but the surroundings made it. I had a seafood kebab which came cooking on it's own hot-plate. Very fresh and had a great taste but something I could have recreated at home without too much difficulty. The pudding was a bit of a disappointment: fig pudding with toffee sauce, pretty standard, nothing special about it.
It feels like you've just climbed down into the dining quarters of an old ship. Overloaded with memorabilia and seafaring paraphernalia everywhere you look. It's dimly lit and there seems to be a constant low grumble of noise from other diners.
P. T.
Great place pity Fremantle is absolutely a dive restaurant shut Friday night and it so quiet once was a busy place the mayor is got a lot to answer for
B. S.
Excellent service. $8 a pint great pub food.
F.
Great bar and food on offer. Basically like a wetherspoons or fullers back in the U.K.
M. R.
Amazing salmon, squid was so amazingly tender, so huge compliments to the chef👍
B. B.
Nice old style pub good for basic beers and food, usually pretty busy and food can take a while to come out but it's okay. Dining room is brightly lit and a little off-putting so I stick to the front bar
J. T.
Great menu catering for all requirements. The vegan dish I had was delicious. Next time I'll try the other vegan offering. Friendly staff. Beautiful building but dining room does lack a bit of character and some heating would make it more comfortable.
K. R.
Atmosphere was great.. The building was lovely but u fortunately the food was average. I was so disappointed with the steak $35 and I asked for med/well done. It came out soooooo over cooked, chewy and dry. The parmy was average.
R. V.
Nice pint and nice live music compliments of next door having a closed doors day 😎😎
E. T.
Nice food friendly atmosphere
J.
Great balcony to have a beer on a sunny day. Plenty of beers on tap, decent pub fair to enjoy with them.
A. H.
An old favourite, but alas their wonderful range of draft beers has shrunk alarmingly. Now they just offer the obvious standard beers. With the excellent exception of a very good stout. Creamy, slightly sweet and very good.
c. d.
Loved the food and the staff are so friendly and bubbly, I only went in for lunch and drink by myself and they didn't make it weird that I was alone either
R. M.
My first time there, it took a long time to get our food as the waiter couldn’t find our table even though we had a table number and was annoyed and made it seem it was our fault he couldn’t find our table. I had the crispy skin pork belly, unfortunately it was extremely chewy and tough and the asparagus and broccolini were under cooked. However my friend seemed very happy with the burger and chips he ordered. I will give it another go maybe just a one off bad day.
J. T.
Cool, chill bar. Chips and Brisket sandwich was super tasty
T. W.
Big pub, few abnoxious idiots on the balcony. Good service.
S. f.
Great food and beers at reasonable prices
A. G.
The Sail and Anchor is a Freo landmark hotel, and well located directly opposite the Fremantle Markets. With an amazing range and choice of beers on tap, this iconic Fremantle pub is a great place visit, especially on a hot Fremantle day. The historic building, its furnishings and decorations, are just amazing and well maintained. Great selection of beers, great food, great location, and a great service from a very friendly staff. A visit to the Sail and Anchor is a must when in Freo.
E. N.
Great place to chill and meet up with others . The staff are accommodating and can't fault anything here!! Lovely atmosphere . Recommend it. The food is great too!!
c. k.
Great venue right in the middle of Fremantle, beer selection is great, ranging from standard beer all the way to some great craft beers! We watched the footy, had a few beer and got some food which the chicken parmigiana was on point
A. H.
Nice place to go. Good entertainment on Sundays. Had the pork belly it was nice. Good section of beers.
G. C.
Very friendly easy going, fair menu , fish oriented. Yes, all OK
M.
Good food, pork belly was super salty though. Waitress looked like she really didn't want to be there and didn't have the best attitude but she was efficient. But the rest of the staff were great and so was the atmosphere.
P. B.
This pub is always good fun.Located in the middle of the Freo strip and an easy walk to most .A good start or finish to any Freo day out.
G. P.
Right in the heart of Fremantle with a great selection of local beers on tap. Food was good and even if the bistro seems closed, you might still be able to order from the bar!
J. P.
Great pub, good atmosphere and food right overlooking Fremantle markets, (don't forget the balcony bar)
P. S.
Good selection of beers, atmospheric old time decor, reminding old Westerns saloons. Cool view for Fremantle Market's street.
L. T.
Excellent chicken parmi which was quite generous, washed down with a pint or two. Great lunch !
C. T.
Great pub whilst on holiday, great good and accommodating staff! Definitely recommend!
A. O.
Great place to stop and watch the world go by.
l. w.
Beautiful old building with some fantastic beers on tap. Obviously a very popular local establishment. Must try appetizers too.
D. B.
Awesome restaurant Great drinks but not many happy looking patrons
P. P.
We were looking for somewhere on Fathers day for lunch in Freo as a last minute decision. We took our chance on the Sail & Anchor and even though initially they were booked out they found us a table inside out of the rain. The food and service was impeccable and I will definitely be returning again.
