Such a pleasant place to visit. Friendly staff and had a nice breakfast experience. The place will give you a feel of the 70s 80s bars even though few of the areas have got renovated. The coffee stall setup the hotel had an amazing coffee. Highly recommended for a drink or to eat in.

Best pub with great service and staff. We are locals in the area and it is the best one around us (even though it's a little further out of the way than others) but that doesn't stop us. We keep going back cause the food and staff are amazing!

This place is located near RPA hospital it's an old pub and bistro all in one and there is accommodation. Yes old but very very clean. I went there for lunch with a friend order the barramundi (grilled) with salad and it was delicious. The barramundi was well cooked, flaky and tender the salad was crisp and fresh. My friend ordered the same plus chips. The chips were also delicious, crisp and crunchy. The place was well presented alot of light from the sun but down further from the front was a bit dark but well lit. The staff was friendly we had to wait a bit for the food but it was well worth the wait. The menu was good and the pricing was reasonable. I think they also had lunch specials. The renovations have taken this place to the next level! Fresh and light interior with friendly service and professional crowd from the medical services located nearby. Cheap drinks and a range of craft beers on tap. Whenever I’m stumbling home, I have a quick night cap at this place before bed - mmm gin and tonic

Excellent Sunday roast. Our table of 8 all unanimously agreed the roast beef with Yorkshire pudding & real gravy was the best we'd ever eaten. Well done to the chef.

The food and service were amazing the only downer for the evening was that the music was so loud that you couldn't hear what your companions were saying. We went for dinner early and would of stayed for a few more drinks and conversation but unfortunately we left straight after eating. We even sat out in the back garden thinking it would be quieter than in the main bar area but it was just as loud.

The Alfred Hotel has Reschs on tap, uni students, nurses, is dog friendly and boasts great staff. It is a special place. The food isn't bad either and there is live music on some days. Bliss.

Its a bit bright in here...the management should turn the fluorescent lighting down a notch or two... Its like a tanning bed inside an operating theatre in the main bar, you'll need a welders mask just to take a slight edge off the near total white out conditions....otherwise its a beautiful old bar for a beer or two.

This is by far the best pub in Sydney. Great food, friendly staff and icy cold schooners - what more could you ask for? I challenge anyone to go to the Alfred Hotel and not have a fantastic night.

Ordered fish and chips which was tasty but would have preferred just one piece of fish rather than the two which arrived. Seems to be a common feature in Australia to pile the food on. The UK pubs give quite diminutive servings by comparison but I much prefer that as it leaves one feeling less bloated.

Chips were cooked nice, burgers not over cooked including the chicken burger Staff was friendly and accommodating as we asked for the chicken burger to be made without certain indigents, not an issue at all and they simply accommodated the order without hassle There's inside seating and outside seating here There were a good number of tap beers. I started off with a Corona and then finished off with a tap beer which didn't disappoint. $7.20 for a tap beer was a good price compared to some places I'll be back as I feel the meal for the money was good

i spent 9 months in RPA and after 6 months was allowed day pass and found the Alfred just 300 mtrs from the hosp, i was told to put on weight so everyday at lunchtime was spent there having the best hamburger ive ever had plus a couple of beers,the staff were very friendly & easy to talk to,i cant praise the staff enough while i was there,im from taree on the mid north coast and spent a lot of hrs at the Alfred when the covid 19 hit syd but everyone at the pub were great and responsable, thanks again, Geoff from taree, a big thumbs up

First visit for a long time even though I live in Newtown. Sorry it’s taken me so long to return. A wonderful atmosphere, great beer and excellent food. Two of the friendliest and most helpful barmen I had the pleasure to come across in a long time. A great little local pub. Keep up the good work and don’t change a thing ! Particularly your staff !

Typical pub accommodation. Bathroom wasn't overly clean, beds were as soft as concrete. All in need of a freshen up (apparently new owners have plans). Proximity to hospital is fantastic though and the staff are incredible. Food is delicious and affordable too.

Classic local pub on Missenden Rd. Decent looking meals available at slightly exorbitant prices. Takeaway alcohol prices are much more respectable than drink-in prices. Comfortable outdoor courtyard area was previously more comfortable, it now includes uncomfortable metal chairs. Pub is usually relatively quiet which enhances its local pub atmosphere. Pub is occasionally packed to the rafters when students from St John's College (across the street) gather for mass alcohol intake. Pub is best avoided on these occasions as service will be slow due to the crowd, and the students will not be cooperative and allow you space to walk by.

Awsome clean little pub. I thought it was just a normal sort of pub but it was pretty nice inside. Plenty of tv's for watching the footy. Nice little tab. They had good $12 lunches. Schnitzel was okay.. could have been a little better.. nice beers on tap. Very friendly staff. Good job 👍👍

Went to see a mate who was in hospital and popped in for a quick bite in this pub. I was honestly overwhelmed at how much I like this place, it has a warm cozy feel with very reasonable drink prices and unpretentious friendly staff but the star was the food... It was AMAZING!!! pork belly ragu pasta I had blew my mind away. the chef brought it out to me Italian Bloke who clearly took pride in his cooking. Will defiantly be back!!!!

Rad tiles, great food, cheap yummy dranks. When I visited on a Saturday there was live music and I was catching sweet vibes left right and centre! I had a budda bowl, one word- delicious! The bar staff are awesome fixed me up a tasty margarita and we had a great laugh. There is a great little area for a little boogie at the front of the bar- if you ask the gorgeous brunettes for a dance they will probably be down but watch out they got moves! I came back the next day for a Bloody Mary breakfast- only $10 and very yummy!! Probably the best Bloody Mary I’ve had in Sydney! I highly recommend experiencing this great place!

Spacious and popular pub, especially in late afternoon when the RPAH and ancillary shift workers wend their way homeward. Friendly bar staff and plenty of choice in keg beer brands - but no style choice other than lagers, pale ales (which are so light and gassy they are indistinguishable from lager), and a stout. Lovely beer garden. We didn't eat, but the Special of the Day - Lamb Shanks - looked great. We will have to visit another day for lunch. Apparently they have complimentary WiFi, but I couldn't connect; maybe bad reception in the beer garden. No surcharge on the use of credit cards. Large screens showing sport and a betting machine available.

With adult daughter recovering in RPA Hospital, made last minute decision to have lunch at Alfred instead of hospital cafeteria. Ordered lunch & drinks, then waited & waited...seeing many later orders coming out before ours. Finally decided to check with staff who apologized, made amends quickly including free drinks then soon had our order served, cooked perfectly & enjoyed greatly (the sauce / jus served with the ribs was exceptional). In the end, a great save by the staff & a beautiful pub meal. 🤘5/5.

The tender meat of the chicken burger as the divorce settlement hits me, reminds me of the Vietnamese war, but in a positive way. The Tuesday night trivia sessions are great fun but especially when you consider I had a good night in the midst of a divorce, she slept with my brother but he turned out to be gay so jokes on her. But it's fine I'm over her anyway. Alfred's provided an enjoyable view of young people, senile older men and the occasional cripple being dragged out. All in all, considering the dire situation of my ex wife, my brother and his husband, I think it did me well. Thank you Alfred's, thank you erectile dysfunction and thank you $13 dollar jugs.

Very versatile bar if you're after a drink with friends or a night on the dance floor. Meals are very affordable, I recommend the $10 steak for a cheap night out. If you are after a big night out, Wednesday's is when the college kids flock to the 'Grose,' and first 50 recieve a free drink. DJ's are usually pretty good.

The ATM didn't work and you can't pay for food by EFTPOS. The food came out amazingly fast and the steak was cooked exactly as I asked. Unfortunately the garlic sauce smelled like a sweaty armpit after a 3 week camping trip. I literally couldn't put it near my face without retching, and that's a big deal for me- I've eaten a urinal cake before.

Beggars can't be choosers. Or, more precisely, people who arrive early for an appointment at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and are thirsty can choose to wander back to Newtown or choose to go across the street to the Alfred. Look, there's nothing terribly wrong with this pub. But if it wasn't plunked here, so close to Sydney uni students and RPA nurses ending their shift, they'd never survive. To their credit, their schooners are reasonably priced. There's an ordinary drinking room up front, a few bistro tables mid-way back, and a small brick-surrounded beer garden in the back. Don't expect polished service with a smile; don't expect top-shelf wines; expect a cheap (if not cheerful) beer without having to fight the crowds on King Street.
