This is the most improved pub in Newtown, recently renovated and with the perfect roof top beer garden and bar. The Bistro is sensational, offering really interesting food as well as the traditional favourites. We did their Chef's Table night on 25 November 2021 and it was brilliant value including wine. Downstairs is fun with Bingo with Balls, Joker Poker, Raffles and a great Saturday racing tipping competition. Get 10% back on your spend for Members. My partner and I have been going to this pub for years and the locals are great. Highly recommended!

My bike didn’t have a lock and without hesitation they helped out and allowed me to put my bike in a safe, stress-free environment. The girl with tattoos and boy with short blonde curly hair are gems! Would go to the pub with them if I could. Give them a raise!! did makes webster’s look like the fun police. Love coopers!

The coopers is one of the great pubs of Newtown. The ground floor is a classic grungy pub with a jukebox, TAB & pokies. While upstairs is a more refined pub restaurant and iconic outdoor area. The rooftop outdoor area is the place to be whenever the sun is out. The menu here is a mix of classic pub dishes and more contemporary dishes. They have a great mix of meat, vegetarian and vegan options.

I was looking for some “pub food” for dinner, and decide to have a look at Coopers, and what a beautiful surprise. Beyond a wonderful deal, finally I found very crunchy fries in Newtown. Where to start... we thought using the entertainment book for a 2 for 1 deal was a good idea but a parmigiana, pint and coke still cost $42.50. Just ordering the food, not even queuing, took 10 minutes + waiting another 5 for drinks afterwards and this is when the place was practically empty. The food came out looking impressive but bacon was cold on burger.

Thoroughly enjoyed the expresso Martini. Food with flavour aka SABOR( little Latino twist). We had loaded wedges with pulled pork, cheese, chilli sauce etc ( huge size portion, two people could easily finish) Chicken Taco Box- Chorizo, Fries and the chicken Tacossss 🌮trust me, the taste is amazing compared to what I have described. Bar staff have great hospitality and vibe. Approachable and friendly. Toilets super clean. Will be back. Thank you.

The Coopers is a great place to go if you want to have a few drinks 🍸 with mates before moving on somewhere nicer. The bars been around for ages (20+ years that I've been around Newtown) and unfortunately it's starting to show with the Coopers. To its credit it's still got some charm with the cavernous upstairs seating / dining area and outdoor balcony (unfortunately they allow smoking here which makes it far less pleasant). If you're in Newtown and want to visit one of the older pubs check out the Coopers but there's better pubs in either direction. Ps they have mulled wine 🍷/ cider which is a big plus in the cold.

Food was good... we had the $12 Tuesday special - SCHNITTY Parma or plain with gravy, plus chips and salad... real nice Place seemed nice but upon closer inspection the condiments section was self-serve, sticky, and had 3 bugs crawling about; table was sticky so not cleaned properly between patrons; staff were different from usual - not rude but not professional, in one instance the staff member didn't want to walk around to out table so he passed us the cutlery through the wooden divider that is floor to ceiling height... again not rude but not professional Overall a 3/5 because the food was so good for the price

Popped in last week for lunch and chose dishes from the $12.50 lunch specials. The 200gm steak, chips and salad was perfectly cooked with no inedible grizzle. The pasta was sensational, generous portion with a creamy bacon and mushroom sauce. Coupled with a $15 jug of beer it was a perfect lunch at a reasonable price. Definitely be back.

Popped in for a Sunday roast again and it was just as delicious as the previous visit! Veges were cooked just right and the Yorkshire puddings a nice addition. The beef was cooked to medium which may not be to everyone's looking but was fine for me. Roasts are served from 12:00pm until sold out...get in early!

The Sunday roast was the best I've had in newtown. So good, been dreaming about it since. first time. The night was Totally Vibing upstairs thanks to the two artist, two 2unes putting on a ecstatic atmosphere. You get these guys back you can guarantee our return business, will be back with friends. Back on the roast veggies were steamed aldente there was a variety of hearty veggies also, including steamed broccoli. The gravey was house made. The yorknsheer were awesome. We had 1 g&t and a jug of beer with 2 roast, the guys let us use a table that had a early reservation. Left reasonable time.

I just love this place! Fantastic food and always really great service. Drinks are a fair price and they make really great cocktails! I come here quite regularly and hosted my birthday and a friends birthday here. Definitely a Fave for Newtown and come here all the time! Only one negative, when I hosted a friends birthday on the terrace I brought a cake and the staff refused to bring it out, they wouldn’t even give us plates. Considering we brought 20 or so people there to all buy meals and drinks it would have been nice. But that’s truly the only small negative I’ve ever experienced in 6 years of coming here regularly.

Such a chill and fun place. Don't be fooled by the downstairs area. Go right upstairs and it's a lovely, fun place with good vibes and great friendly staff. Also, make sure to ask what their brew of the month is. The hummus platter is amazing.

Went here for their 2 for 1 Wednesday special. Atmosphere was great. The food was standard pub food not great but not terrible. My main issues were that most things on the menu had run out (we were ordering at 8pm) and the service was lacklustre at best. Food came promptly. Good for a Wednesday night special. Probably wouldn’t go back any time soon as Newtown is full of great places but it wasn’t a negative experience.

This pub is okay - pretty good in terms of chilling out. Not a "nice bar" by any means. Food is good except for a lack of diversity - most to all dishes contain meat unless you want a bland salad with literally just tomato and lettuce. Pretty pathetic seeing as it's the only vegan thing on the menu. Over priced for sure the bowl of salad wasn't even enough to fill one person's stomach. Everywhere should have vegetarian/ vegan options. It's Newtown for goodness sake.

Great pub with more of a gastropub upstairs. Food is pretty outstanding; I've had the beef cheeks a couple of times and would definitely go again. Keep an eye out to try their monthly specials from the kitchen. Their 'signature' cocktails aren't anything special, but perhaps try if you're feeling adventurous. Not anything spectacular if you look from the street, but don't judge a book by it's cover.

Casual downstairs and slightly more classy atmosphere upstairs so this place caters to all types of pub-goers. The staff are friendly, and the locals keep this place in order - it's less sloppy than the 'visitors' to Newtown make the rest of the pubs on King St.

Nice local pub. Meals are huge - good most of the time. If you are looking for a decent put meal at the North end of King Street this is probably one of the best bets. I've eaten here a few times and the reason it gets 4 stars is the last couple of steaks I have had have been overdone (more well done than medium rare as I ordered, specifically no pink at all but everyone else's meals have been great.

Downstairs is pubby, and upstairs is... also pubby. Hmmm. Went on Wednesday, 2-4-1 meal night. Woot! The food is good, but they seem determined to be blander and down-market from where they were a few years ago. The interior design choices are elaborate but make no sense. Nothing matches, but the dominant mood is of a 70s sauna. Pine board lining, what? My wife's lamb shank was not cooked quite enough, but she said it was one of the best gremolatas she'd ever had. My steak was clearly a bargain cut but superbly cooked. So everything was maddeningly inconsistent, but both meals plus wine came to just over $40. We toddled off to the Dendy with no complaints, but it used to have a buzz.

Furphys jugs are like 14 bucks. Great deal at 9am. Upstairs on a Sunday arvo when the weather is pleasant it's nice. Little bloke singing in the corner friendly bar staff. They could tell how disgustingly hung over I was so the lovely bar staff knocked up and absolute cracker Bloody Mary.

Solid option if you're looking for a pub in Newtown. There is both upstairs and downstairs areas looking out onto King St, along with good music - a mix of modern and classic rock. I haven't tried the food but service seems quick and friendly.

One of the best kitchens for pub food in Newtown. They have great deals, but unfortunately, the 12$ jug deal they advertise isn't available. I think this is a pretty serious marketing issue, but it is what it is. The only jug deal they have is 14$ Furphy. All things considered, even though it lacks a great beer selection, it is one of my go to pubs in Newtown!

I went here for dinner and a drink. It's pretty nice. There is an outdoor rooftop kind of thing upstairs where people can eat and drink. I prefer the environment of Coopers over Marly Bar. It is comparable to Zanzibar or The Bank. It surprising has some really nice food. I had a prawn pasta. It was a good size and was very nice. I'd recommend it for a chill dinner and drinks.

This is a place either for locals to come for a drink or dinner, or for a relaxed night out. There is a nice outdoor area on the First Floor, which does have a smoking area. I have regularly patronised this venue.

A deceptively good pub. Downstairs is a bit dodgy... not much going on, and if I didn't know any better I'd have kept walking. But upstairs is gorgeous! The open air rooftop bar is perfect for Spring. The menu is set out like a comic book which makes it slight painful to decipher, but it'll be worth it. The food is excellent, and new specials are posted frequently. Close your eyes until you reach level one.

A few months ago here I had a perfect supper here of sticky rich pie. Sadly, that menu has disappeared & this time I chose a beetroot salad. I'm sorry to say it was pretty horrible: a huge bowl of tasteless cabbage with the occasional 1 cm cube of beetroot. No sound insulation, so the live band on the ground floor can either be a free concert or an ordeal. Staff friendly.

I've had good experiences here before with above average food and beer. Heard about the latest saga with the general manager being sacked for misogynistic posts on social media. Give them kudos for reacting decisively within two days. Other establishments would have simply ignored the outcry and done nothing. (A recent example - Rocca Wolli Creek with its ignorance of 5min long racist abuse directed by a regular staff member or customer to a female friend of mine sitting on her own). Not this establishment though!

Coopers pub has two personalities; down stairs is an old fashioned and some what tired local pub and that's what you get - up stairs is a more modern drinking/eating affair based around an outdoor open roof area. And like most pubs the food and service can vary with staff changes - I have enjoyed both of its personalities.

I've never really gone in here. Street side its a bit of a derro pub but the other week, mate said to meet him here upstairs so I went. The upstairs is a young hip version of downstairs with open space and a nice out door area. Excellent! You can sit, have a beer and peer out on kingstreet.
