Comments of Courthouse Hotel

Where to start... the location is close to both buses and trains. Staff is young and energetic. Easy way to order, either from the counter or straight from your phone. Food is really good and portions are fair. Happy dogs running around. Outdoor and indoors seatings. Great selection of tap beer.. I'm just describing heaven!!!
M. A. A.
Great place for a cold drink and love their beer garden. Very chill and relaxing.
E. D.
Great beer garden, pinball machines, fairy lights, good music, and friendly staff. The food is good, serviceable pub food. Versatile place that works well for a quiet beer in the afternoon or a big night out. Also, if you're drinking in the park nearby they're generally pretty good about you using the toilets here.
R. G.
Great pub in inner city location at Newtown. Had gf options and we ordered gf pulled pork nachos and a medium rare steak +chips/salad. Loved that it's a dog friendly pub and so we had plenty of "helpers" at nearby tables to finish my generous serving of nachos!!
P.
A stunning location, it perfectly covers a true natural environment which makes you feel real comfort and welcome as you endulge on the beautiful nourishment presented to you. It also includes many healthy options, which is simply splendid. The only thing negatively note worthy to comment about are the prices as some dishes and beverages can be a little exaggerated.

Great pub with friendly staff. Also the best place in Sydney to watch not just Sydney Swans, but ALL other AFL and AFLW games with the sound up on their TV’s. I LOVE how they got an artist to recreate the old Scanlen’s VFL footy cards from the 1970’s, then placed these picture frames of old Aussie Rules footballers in their team colours on a space of the wall elevated above the bar !
It’s refreshing to go to a local establishment in Sydney whose owner (Solotel Group), has for the most part maintained the pub’s original historic building and not just simply demolished it to build a new pub building.
W. G.
great place good vibes but missing employees I guess. the girls at the bar were friendly which is a plus. all in all location is great and good to visit regularly
P. D.
Lively Newtown pub. Standard pub fare......parmas, steak & chips, nachos etc. me&u app for ordering. Limited selection of beers, but some interesting 'seltzers'. Swapping tables caused a bit of confusion as the ordering app is linked to table number. Food and drink OK to good. Liveliness, atmosphere and vibe....really good!

I want to give this place a four just because of how many bad dates I've had here but my poor choices are not their fault.
The QR, at-table ordering guarantees you don't have to talk to people, which is what I appreciate in a night out (I'm serious 😂)
There are a lot of dogs, it's always very busy but a quaint little place overall. And afterwards you can always go for a nice stroll in the park across the road.
Chips are reasonable and often seasoned with my tears.
P. P.
Always a great pub. Very nice spot to catch up with friends and a great selection of beers.
Also have Heaps Normal non alcohol brew which is amazing for the drivers / non drinkers to feel normal and not get any alcohol in their blood :)
Love this spot!
J. K.
Love it here. Great spot, good drinks and awesome staff.
T. W.
Used this gaff for three nights running. On a trip to Australia in 1998. I just remember the brilliant atmosphere and big steak and beer and playing pool with the locals. Always remember staggering back past the fire station to get a bus to a formula 1 hotel, somewhere on princess highway?. You couldn't drink in the hotel, and we used to sit out on the grass around midnight drinking. Great memories of a great trip. Brilliant people, and country. Love to go back one day to the "Courty" From a very wet and windy Birmingham, in the UK.
J. R.
Nice staff and I just want to say sorry for drunkenly taking a glass of wine out into the street under my jacket. It seemed like a great idea at the time. Female security guard was really nice about it. Thank you.
T. R.
1000% loved this place. Super queer friendly, great service, fantastic chips, I'll be back as soon as I'm back in Sydney <3
C. O. D.
Beautiful outdoor space, delicious food, friendly staff. The veggie nachos are AWESOME!!! The Courthouse Hotel is a Newtown Institution!
M. N.
Ripper pub, all the kids having a ball for a satdy sesh. Nice outdoor area, great beers, pinnies and pool, pokies not too intrusive.
A. W.
The grilled chicken burger here is excellent highly recommended. Good selection of tap beers as well.
J. A.
Oh. We're gonna keep this short and sweet.
DOGS!!! OMG DOGS. This place loves dogs and they even have a dog menu on their human menu.
Treat your dog today <3
G. H.
This is an awesome bar. Apart from being the home of AFL in Sydney, it's a great hang out at all times. Today it's The Ashes and cold beers. The tap selection is amazing
G. F.
Awesome bar, with lots of space, it’s like a maze, you keep walking and never see the end, until you get there on a Saturday, then you wish they had a bigger beer garden, the place gets crowded, still great fun, good price for the beer jar, funky atmosphere, amazing place to go in groups.
C. F.
Sometimes you just want to go to a pub that still feels like a pub and 'the courty' delivers that feel in abundance, plus more.
Divided into four main sections, there's something for everyone and anyone. The beer garden is big and open with big tables, perfect for big groups, the smoking area is actually big enough to fit the number of people you'd expect to be smoking in a pub, the dining area and balcony are warm and cozy in winter and open airy in summer and he bar area is always buzzing.
One of the best things about the courty is the menu. It's classic pub meals like nachos, burgers, Parma and wedges and they're all good too.
For the full experience, get here early and have an early dinner in the beer garden then head inside and try and get a table near the TVs and watch the Swans beat whoever it is that they're playing. The atmosphere during a game is incredible.
The beers are always super cold, the lines are super clean and one of the few places in the inner suburbs you can still get a schooner for 6-bucks-something
t. Q.
Been going here for 9 years since I've been in Sydney. Best pub. Always been brilliant. Had a super rude experience with a staff member who was needlessly rude but every other single member of staff have always been amazing.
S. P.
Excellent little pub with great beer selection combined with a vast array of value food choices. The only downside was a poor red wine selection; 4 unknown labels!
N. L.
A newtown favey — looks basic from the outside but with a lovely friendly garden at the back. Kid and pup friendly on one side, and smokers on the other! Get the jug of newtowner for just $21, and a nice serving of the popular courty nachos. Sundays well spent!
A. P.
As much as I love the courty, your security staff seem to strut about the place like they're special forces commandos. I was told I'd had enough to drink and needed to leave, except I hadn't ordered a beer yet and had been inside the venue for all of 10 minutes. The bouncer claimed he had seen me drink at least 8 beers and I'd been "noticed' by his team. I have no idea why they noticed me because I'm not particularly good looking.
When I asked him if I could return to my table to get my keys, wallet etc he made a face like I'd asked him to divide the square root of 7,960 by 4 billion, and he walked off.
Overall it was bizarre.
C. T.
Great beer garden. Inside is old but I like it, reminds me of the more traditional pubs I used to visit when I was younger.
S. M.
Its great to see some female bouncers. The pub felt safter and the bouncers more approachable.
A. D. G.
Best nachos in Sydney, great outdoor area to enjoy the sun, super friendly bartender who even offered to try some of the beer and cider before making our choice.
A. A.
Nice place with lovely drinks. The outdoor area is great.
J. A.
While many hotels refurbish and lose their character, the amazing courthouse hotel in Newtown is a local’s paradise! Chilled, fun, cheap with loads of character, I have been visiting this place for years - and love it! The outside courthouse is amazing on a nice evening... the food tasty and cheap, the drinks reasonable and the locals live it! Best pub in Newtown!!!!!!! Love this place!
A. W.
Great beer garden and nice staff. The art on the toilet walls is always fun to read. I like when places leave it there to make your sit more enjoyable!
J. P.
Lovely spacious place with alfresco and in dining. Friendly lads and food was made to perfection. Beer battered fish and chips and nachos beef were very well made and generous serving!
J. R.
Good Covid plan in place. Good beers. Great for people watching if you fancy seeing hipsters in the wild
J. O.
A long time favourite in Newtown as the staff are laid back and fun. A BIG bonus is that they're hound friendly and supply snacks for your fur baby. One of the best parmies in town as well as the salmon. Also loads of sunny spots to soak it all up. Keep it up, guys!
s. w.
Very inclusive menu, something for everyone! Best at lunch time, can be quite bustling for tea
M. K.
One of my fav pubs in newtown. Chill smoking area. Good beers. That's all you need

Best beer garden, doggo friendly. Can't go wrong with classics

Love this place, friendly staff, delicious food and environment. Excellent covid measures. I love the new order & payment system 👏 Congrats!!

Awesome food, drink and atmosphere
G. G.
My favourite pub!
It's always such a good vibe and i've got so many positive memories here. I'll always come back. The beer garden is my favourite!
S. P.
Awesome garden/terrace for a few beers.
A. W.
Great beer garden and nice staff. The art on the toilet walls is always fun to read. I like when places leave it there to make your sit more enjoyable!
N. C.
Nice pub with a low key, grungy feel and a great beer garden. The vibe is relaxed and seems to be a favourite of Inner West locals. Alcohol prices are really good, food prices are standard pub grub level. Some interesting choices on the menu like butter chicken nachos...
A. M.
No pool table good drinks good atmosphere
M. W.
Good staff and beer choices well located on Newtown
A. N.
Food is solid and beer selection is good. Very friendly staff and there are dog friendly outdoor areas!
T. F.
Great vibe, awesome beer garden, and the butter chicken poppadom nachos!!! So good!
E. T.
Great food, great staff+service and great atmosphere.
Toilets are lacking but otherwise Verry family friendly.
G. G.
My favourite pub!
It's always such a good vibe and i've got so many positive memories here. I'll always come back. The beer garden is my favourite!
N. P.
Best beer garden, doggo friendly. Can't go wrong with classics
R. G.
Much nicer with covid spacing rules than with the old 'cram them in until we burst' way of operating. Efficient plentiful staff and polite security. Food is fairly standard fare. A bit pricey.
H. D. H.
Schnitty for $16. Tasted good and texture was 9/10
Courtyard is pleasant as was the doggo presence
Happy days
R. C.
Great pub in the heart of Newtown. We love the garden bar, food & selection of beer
D. B.
Who doesn't love the courty?? The beer garden is a huge highlight and has plenty of heaters for these colder months. Great food. Great drink. Great staff.
E. D.
Awesome place - I wish the kitchen was open throughout the whole afternoon:)
A. R.
Visited the courty last night with a few friends for birthday drinks and I must let you all know how it went..
Arrived at the door and kat made us all feel so welcomed and comfortable didn't even realize that we waited for a table.
Then management walked us in and actually explained how to order from our table..
Venue looked beautiful with all the lights ..people everywhere having fun..
Will definitely go back vibe was amazing..
R. M.
Kat our security guard was amazing and so kind. Such a lovely experience. 110% recommend
B. T.
Last time we were there a few months ago the back courtyard was being dug up. Glad to see all the work is done and all ready for summer! looking good fellas!! Great food, love the burgers, and selection of beers. Staff are super friendly and we get to take the dogs with us. Win win. Good mix of locals of all ages.
P. S.
One of my fav bars in Newtown, good beer, good people and very well behaved puppies 🐶 🍺🍻
D. S.
It’s a chill place to meet bigger groups and have drinks and snacks. I was surprised to see the number of dogs, so ideal for dog owners.
We were with 8 people and had a large table. Staff was friendly, food (nachos and burgers) were tasty and have big portions! Even though it was busy the food arrived quite quickly.
We would definitely go back!
B. C.
This is a fine establishment. I went there with my husband and 6 kids last week and the kids meals were phenomenal, especially the kids fish and chips. The pool was slightly too chlorinated for little Jimmy but good idea!
B. H.
Absolutely love this place and the staff, the piece of coral with the tattoos as mentioned in previous review is a superstar and I'm sorry she has to deal with entitled people that can't do what they are instructed by management to the point they need security to intervene because they're trying to run a COVID safe venue. I'm sure the people living in poverty stricken countries are really sympathetic to your plight in not being able to find a suitable vegan option mate, maybe try one of the other 100+ pubs and restaurants in Newtown that have more options, or is just easier to jump online and whinge about it?
S. M.
Doggos welcome here. Chilled vibe. Great nachos. Nice outdoor area. Great place for a Sunday sesh
G. E.
Great corner pub in Newtown. Good choice of beer on tap. Dark beers in bottles only. Bar staff were relaxed friendly and efficient. Can't complain there. Bloody noisy with so many people vying for their voice to be heard. In other words, great atmosphere.
D. P. (. P.
It can get quite busy on weekends here! Security pays close attention to distancing rules and I appreciate that you can order at the table with an app and don't have to go inside. You pay via google pay, apple pay or paypal and the drinks will be served at your table. They also charged my phone on request. I wish I could have experienced a busy pre-covid evening here. It looks like heaps of fun "
:-)
A. S.
Great staff, food and courtyard. One of the best pubs in Sydney
C.
Enjoyed the time we were there....👍
A. d.
Great location close to Newtown train station, and right across the road from a dog park.
The staff are so lovely and accommodating.
It was very busy when my friend and I went for a drink and some food.
There wasn't that many places to sit, and being disabled I need somewhere easily accessible and comfortable to sit.
I mentioned this to one of the staff and they went out of their way to ask customers if they'd be able to separate tables so that we could sit down. I wasn't expecting them to do that for me.
This place is great!
D. H.
We had a wonderful experience lining up in the rain. The security guards were super super nice Fred was a legend and Kat kindly sheltered us from the rain with her umbrella until we were let in. Great food great drinks great staff. Thanks legends!!!
G. B.
Awesome food, drink and atmosphere
F. M.
I've always loved the vibe at the Courthouse. It's a welcoming space. The security were very courteous when asking us all to leave at the end of the night. I enjoyed their steak with chips and salad. The menu is typical pub food. Good variety of tap beers, two options for tap cider. Budget friendly by the jug.
T. K. P.
I recently gave up alcohol but it was a favourite haunt however I still go there sometimes for the ambience and love playing the 80s pinball machines like Kiss and the Addams Family while enjoying a dry ginger and Soda!
K. T.
I forget how great this place is sometimes. It's friendly, really busy sometimes, but the staff are quick with you, and without being rude. The food isn't too bad either. I asked for a tiny modification, and the guy at the register was very cool about subbing veg for chips. Outdoor seating in the back is a great atmosphere. Inside is good too, and has that great bohemian vibe.
W. P.
I really enjoyed my time at the courthouse. It had a really friendly vibe for a newbie to the area. It can very busy at night and one weekends but the staff were courteous and welcoming. I particularly love that it's dog friendly, it makes a nice change to almost all other pubs one will encounter and reminds me of home. If you don't mind a little wait and are new to Newtown I strongly suggest you check this place out
S.
This pub has a great atmosphere, especially in the courtyard. They are very supportive of dogs, to the point where they have dog biscuits and are keen dog patters. Good selection of beers and vintage sports paraphernalia if are into that sort of thing.
C. d. F.
Been coming here for years and am always really happy with the atmosphere at this pub. Friendly staff, great decor, a true 'old Australian pub' feel without the musty feeling of a dated venue that hasn't changed with the times. It can get super busy, with long lines and waits at the bar. Food is as expected (yes, they have wedges - a must for any true Australian bar), tasty but nothing fancy. Overall a good place to visit if you are in Newtown and want to try somewhere a little away from King Street.
V. N.
Such good food and vibes here. Also, I forgot to put mozzie spray for the beer garden on earlier (because I get bitten like mad if I'm outdoors anywhere), and the staff brought some out for me. Thank u!!!!
s.
Food good. Pricing good. Absolutely no parking. Parking police vicious. Streets must be the narrowest in Sydney. Smoking and non smoking areas blurred. Too many patrons. Far too little seating. Negatives outweigh the positives. Much better pubs to go to.
S. P.
Awesome garden/terrace for a few beers.
I. C.
It's a nice location and staff are friendly
G. W.
What a great vibe this great pub has! A good selection of beers & other drinks that you could ever want! The food is also amazing & reasonably priced. The service was outstanding....friendly, knowledgeable & courteous. Will definitely be back!
R. T.
Great atmosphere, separate smoking area, pokies and all the good stuff. We had so much fun whilst we all got dunk.
A. H.
Very impressed with the Courthouse Hotel on father's day. It was busy but they knocked out the food quickly. I had a steak and it was done as ordered. All the staff friendly and nice crowd. The beer garden is dog friendly so I will bring the foxy next time.
L. P.
My partner and I were brought here for the nachos and beer three years ago when we first arrived in Sydney and we have since brought ALL of our friends on different occasions from Canada, gold coast and even elsewhere in Sydney.
I swear we ALL agree that they have the best damn nachos we have ever had anywhere. If you are looking for a place with a great serving of nachos that is worth the price, this is your place. The servings are huge and you never run out of toppings.
Plus the atmosphere is relaxes, service is good and the outdoor area is beautiful and an enjoyable place to sit and chill with friends.
One of my faves in Sydney
S. M.
Pub with a great atmosphere and cool beers. Food recommended as well.
T. F.
My Newton favourite, attracts a great crowd
s. a.
Celebrated a milestone and was given exemplary care and service byb a bar tender named Nikita who went out of her way to make the greatest vegan bloody mary I've had. Feel the love!
W. B.
Decent pub with plenty of seating! The array of beers is fairly standard, with a couple of specials to try (which are delicious!). There are games tables, graffiti walls, and loads of nooks and crannies to explore here. Staff are quite friendly, and the food is pretty standard. Nice place!
K. O.
The Courthouse hotel is deadset the best pub in the entire inner west. The security staff (especially Kat and Jimmy) and manager (Alex) are amazing. Thank you. That is all.
L. B.
Excellent old school pub vibe, that's come into the modern age perfectly. Still has the feel of a pub in the 70s, but with excellent drink options and great food. And, the massive beer garden let's your pooches in aswell, with water bowls and treats!
R.
My friends and I come here every month for a meet up, it is definitely a favourite. Always has cold beer, hot food, fantastic staff and a great atmosphere. I appreciate how separate the smokers area is while still staying in the same building. My only minor complaint is the heaters outside don't always work. But that is so minor that it barely warrants a mention.
N. B.
Great spot and beer garden, but after eating delish food here for years and not visiting for ages due to Covid, we were disappointed it's gone burgers and corn chips. Food was poor which was a shame.
D. B.
Always good. Inclusive. Lively. Great to have the outdoor bar as well. Good food also and great to see Stone and wood on tap.
Only dislike is how many tables are booked out in advance on busy nights. Half of the beer garden sometimes! Crazy!
A. C.
Usually love this place with its friendly Inner West vibes. However the bouncer was very rude and unfriendly and kept asking my partner and I if 'we'd been anywhere before this'. It was a strange question, it was really early in the night, and we were stone cold sober.
L. L.
Good pub with great bistro and friendly staff. One of the ladies behind the bar was very helpful with local beer selection, and the staff in the bistro were also great with food recommendations. Had the parma, it did not disappoint; the chips were also primo, crunchy on the outside, fluffy in the middle. Also did nice vegan meals. Good times!
O. C.
Always busy and full of lovely people.
Worth trying to get a table in the beer garden on a nice day or in by the pool tables.
Food is usually ok - the satay burger was a hit in our group, as well as good chips to keep everyone satisfied with their beers. Prices are pretty standard, jug prices are a good deal.
L. G.
Great atmosphere and great food too.
L.
Great little local pub with a real down-to-earth relaxed feel...like you're just hanging out in someone's backyard. Great food choices, typical of pub grub (schnitzel, burgers, streaks) and some gorgeous salads with vegan, gluten free and nut free options. Been going here for years and love that nothing seems to really ever change. Prices are reasonable, there's street parking (if you're lucky) or it's about a 5 minutes walk from Newtown train stain and a minute from the huge Camperdown park. The fact that it's a dog friendly pub also means it's a huge hit with the locals. Definitely recommend...it can get crazy busy so if you're thinking of a catch up with friends on a Saturday or Sunday, I'd recommend getting there early.
M. C.
One of the great Inner West pubs. Huge beer garden, now split into smoking and non-smoking sections. Good selection of beers, craft and otherwise. Food is standard pub fare, and priced accordingly. Always heaving with a young, trendy crowd. Worth a visit. Be prepared to stand!
K.
Good old courty. Mad joint with friendly staff an amazing atmosphere. Sitting outside is so lovely but can be hard to find a spot. Awesome beers available on tap as well.
E. H.
We came for Sunday Roast, very mediocre. No Yorkshire Pudding ( heaps of review websites said it does) raw broccoli, very fatty meat, no other vegetables than pototes. It's a great pub, but swerve if you're looking for a proper roast. Going home disappointed and hungry.
M. B.
Relaxed, laidback venue for some drinks with friends. Affordable drink prices and dog friendly. Didn't try the food but the pigeons enjoyed other people's leftovers. Hopefully I can come for a bite next visit.
J.
Really great pub, staff are so helpful, food is good quality, large courtyard area and top atmosphere.
A. A.
A newtown classic pub. It's got a great buzz and feels like a true Aussie pub. It gets busy and noisy in the evenings and on the weekends. It's got good food and nice staff. The court yards are a great place to sit out and take in the atmosphere. It's the go to pub in Newtown!
H. P.
Good spot for a beer with a great beer garden out back. Reasonable priced beers and drinks with a good selection. Can get a bit crowded around the bar area if watching the footy etc. Never seen anyone angry there, normally a good crowd
A. O.
Great pub with exceptional food and good selection of beers. Probably our favourite in Newtown for its central location and large size. They also have a large patio that's perfect for an outdoor drink.
L. A.
Great food, beer, awesome garden, and 5 pinnies - perfect!
H. W.
Courthouse Hotel is a pleasant pub situated in the backstreets of Newtown. Bar staff and security guards are extremely welcoming if not comedic. Highly recommendable for drinks both early afternoon and late night.
I. G.
Nice pub in Newtown with a massive courtyard. On top of the good vibes I like their nachos in particular. They also have jugs for reasonable prices. If you are hanging out around Newtown and like sitting outdoor this is your best bet. I forgot they also have some billiards inside if you are a fan.
V. R.
I love this place on a sunny day. The outdoor area is big and beautiful. But the indoor area is grotty, so if the weather is iffy, steer clear. Nice menu, good selection of beer on tap.
A. T.
This is a really cool venue, it's a old house off the main street in Newtown which has been renovated to suit the likes of a pub with great food and an absolutely wonderful garden. The house is surrounded on two sides by seating areas and fairy lights and it's just wonderful at night. Despite this it is incredibly busy most nights so go early, maybe around happy hour.
J. D.
A local gem! Quietly tucked away off the main roads of Newtown, the beer garden is one of the nicest spots to enjoy a drink or some pretty good pub grub. Don't go if you're looking for something fancy or if you don't like dogs.
E. W.
I've recently discovered this place and I'm really grateful for it. It's off the beaten track of king street but a few hundred meters buys a lot of quality. It has a huge, multilevelled beer garden with great greenery and decent inside areas for people who prefer that sort of thing. They have a few local brews as well as a pretty standard selection of beer wine and spirits. What really sets this place apart is the bistro which has fantastic food and fantastic service.
J. D.
Love this bar normally, and the food is normally incredible hence giving it three stars not one, but had probably the most gross pub meal I've ever had last night. Cajun chicken burger, grey, fatty meat and then a pile of batter. Really surprising as normally their food is so good.
H. R.
Decent beer selection sometimes.
Fairly good food, but at a severe price.
Nice beer garden.
DISASTROUS BATHROOM SITUATION
I'm genuinely not sure if the bathroom availability in this location is even legal. Guys get by ok if they only need to pee and don't mind getting intimate with 5 others at the urinal, but heaven forbid you require a stall, since the bathrooms seem to be rarely cleaned or stocked, so be sure to pick up some napkins on your way to the bathroom. I guess the plan B is to do an awkward run to the next nearest pub since you'll probably be waiting a while to get access to a stall anyhow.
I like the place, but...
D. H.
Always a pleasure with plenty of puppers. Food is tasty, drinks are reasonable, staff are radical. Great array of the types you'll meet in Newtown, with a welcoming attitude in general. Can't go wrong.
S. O.
Fairly good selection of beers. Chips and wedges were well done. Love all the outdoor seating and the fact that it is dog friendly. Bar staff were very helpful and patient.
C. H.
This place rocks. Plenty of beers on tap, an expansive beer garden, lots of screens to watch sports and an interesting and varied clientele. This is a mainstay of Newtown and definitely worthwhile to frequent. Cosy, cheap, and just plain solid. What more do you want in a pub?
M. B.
This pub is a clear favourite with the locals and it's not hard to see why. It certainly lives up to its name, with a spacious courtyard that's perfect for a sunny Sunday afternoon beer or cider. The pub tends to get a tad too crowded on Friday and Saturday night, so if that's not your thing stick to afternoon or mid week visits.
J.
Very spacious with lots of games to play and seating. I only tired one beer but it was very smooth with just the right amount of head. The food is delectable and the outdoor ambience makes you want to come back. Looks like a hotspot around 7pm for dinner and pregame.
K. K.
The best beer garden I've ever seen. Lots of great beers on tap. Good food. The ultimate place to go for beers on a sunny day. Inside is questionable. The graffiti in the bathrooms is just as entertaining as the venue itself.
T. R.
I wanted to share my experience I had the other day in the pub. I had lost my phone and was quite distraught. I asked one of the bar staff Ruth, if anyone had handed it in. She helped me find it by crawling under tables. Will now make this my regular as I was amazed by her going above and beyond to help a stranger
S. G.
For a pub it is quite nice. I love love the outdoor area during those hot summer months. We also have gatherings here for football, and other such things. And the morning beer bingo is always a hit with our lot!
A. C.
Great old-school backyard style pub.
Good selection of pinball machines.
Decent food.
Dogs and kids welcome.
Seperate outdoor smoking area so you can still have a beer and a durry in the sun, with ya dog too.
Howzat?
S. C.
Yummy pub food, good variety with well sized portions. Not overly priced. Pleasant courtyard dining or inside in air conditioning. I have eaten here several times and the food is always consistently good.
M. P.
Great spot to watch the AFL Grand Final this afternoon. Heaps of TVs and the sounds was nice and loud. We arrived at 12:30 to get a table and the place was already pumping. Our lunch was great, we had the nachos (delicious), a chicken parmi (also great) and a chicken burger (superb). When I went to collect the food the chicken burger had been made as a beef burger but the staff were fantastic about getting the right burger out to us quickly along with a jug of beer to say sorry (totally unnecessary but much appreciated!). Im sure we will be back to watch the AFL next season.
M. M.
This pub gets crammed quickly, but with good reason - the vibe is great and the food is awesome! Plus the dog friendly aspect means there's always friends to be made.
M. M.
Great beer garden and good selection of beers. A definite favourite in the Newtown area. Plenty of seats, pool table, bistro serves decent fare and you will find yourself back here many times, especially in summer!
S. M.
Excellent pub with indoor and outdoor areas, dog friendly, they have a pinball machines room, and the staff is super friendly. They have great beers on tap and they sell jugs. They also have great food
H. S.
Authentically rustic! No fakers or reimaginations, this place is as it has been for years. Food is plentiful unfussy and tasty. Some local beers on tap
K. H.
Quickly became my favourite bar in Sydney. Newtown is a stellar neighbourhood and the Courty is a must if you’re walking through and wanna pop a squat for a drink or a feed. Two outdoor areas (one for eating, one for smoking) and the eating area is gorgeous. Food isn’t fabulous, but they have an excellent beer selection and just the best staff.
M. M.
A Newtown institution. No frills, just what you want from a pub.
D. C.
Fairly standard unloved pub with expensive menu and craft beers. A beer and a schnitty will set you back at least $30+. Food, when your buzzer finally goes off, is decent but not great. The kitchen knows their food is fairly substandard which is why they oversize their portions. Staff are generally pretty nice, albeit full of a bit of hipster contempt - only uniform seems to be the excessive pointless tattoos and ironic 90s op-shop attire.
G. G.
Food was not much even for pub food.
C. F.
Always a pleasure at this friendly place. A fabulous, GLBT safe, funky groover encouraged, dog friendly paradise of beer, epic pub feeds and smoking/non smoking outdoor areas. Rockin jukebox full of the goods, pinball and pokie rooms with pool tables and delicious bar - this pub has stayed on most peoples top 10 for the last 30 years. Bloody great pub run by people know know what we want. Love it.
A. F.
If you could put the entire culture of Newtown into one pub, it'd be here, dog friendly and approachable people all round. The service was excellent and you get what you pay for in terms of food and drink.
J. S.
The Courthouse Hotel on Australia Street in Newtown is a very nice and big pub. Great for nights out with friends, especially in Summer time because it has a great big beer garden. You just need to come early to ensure a good spot, as this place is always absolutely packed on weekends. Unfortunately, because it's always super loud when crowds meet and drink, they are forced to close at midnight. The food is nothing special but quite alright typical pub food.
M. W.
Fish and chips was very ordinary. Chips were next to cold, the salad and batter were oily. Portions disappointing. The lemon wedge was the highlight. Great atmosphere and large, pleasant beer garden
A. T.
Love this place! Fantastic food and a nice big covered outdoor area to eat it in! It's usually fairly busy and creates a nice buzz. Beer selection isn't shabby either! I try to convince everyone to go here when in the area.
C. I.
The counter meals are varied and reasonably priced. The vegetarian lasagne is excellent. The choice of drinks on tap is also very good. Excellent place for a weekend lunch.
C. E.
Where do I even start ? There is no place better in Sydney. Awesome atmosphere, dog friendly (can you give 10 stars?), huge outside area for all those mates of yours and always a good lineup of beers. Rad staff too. ✔️✔️
R. C.
This pub is a local newtown gem. There is an extensive range of craft beers and ciders to chose from and the food is fantastic. I have tried most of the burgers and enjoyed them all, but I especilly liked the chips. There is a lovely outdoor area with plenty of big tables for large groups. The staff are friendly and also knowledgable behind the bar and help to create a nice atmosphere. Always a great place to come and watch the afl! Just make sure you're in early as it is a popular place!
P. C.
Short walk from Newtown station. Food is reasonably priced and great quality. Good selection of drinks. Great music. Great service. Smoking and non smoking beer gardens.
I. R.
Super chill vibes and lovely food. Especially the warm olives
D. d. M.
Great beer garden, great vibe (how could it not be when it's in the best town in the country). Loses a star because the bar queue is long and inefficient. Bars have lines, I get it, but nothing appears to be being done about it on all the times I've been there - so, my assumption is that management considers it acceptable: therefore an acceptable loss of a star shouldnt be a worry.
L. J.
Best pub in Sydney, and arguably has the best nachos too. Every time I try nachos somewhere else I am disappointed because Courty nachos are the best in the inner west.
M. B.
Great place to have a beer, pat the dogs, watch the footy and have a pub feed. Not exceedingly cheap but not really expensive. There is a pokie room however, so if you’re not into then stay out in the beer garden.
S. S.
Great atmosphere, I love that's it's dog friendly. Food is very over priced tho .
W. L.
Garden, nachos, smoking area, classic tunes, pints, and that feint stale beer musk in the interior that immediately relaxes shoulder tension. My favourite pub in Newtown if I'm looking for a casual pint outside. Attracts an affable, hipsterish crowd.
L. S.
Overall a great place to have a few beers in the sun. However, when it's busy it takes forever to get a drink. Bit tough with only one bar, but it is what it is.
D. S.
Awesome local venue and best in Newtown. Great selection of beers and beer garden to boot. Melbourne lad who likes his pub a little divey with heaps of character. The courty is key for local pub goodness
C. G.
I always enjoy a visit to the Courty. The beer is good - I had a Brookhaven ginger beer (on tap) - and the food is better than your usual pub grub. I had the spicy sausages and cous cous, which were delicious. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere warm. One of Sydney's finest...
V. S.
Be careful the beer will get you! It is a favourite of every local, even though it isn't cool to like what is popular, the Courty will always be a great place for a beer with mates, old and new. Food is good, and a plate of nachos will help calm the Sunday session munchies.
V. F.
Really Nice bar, a bit off king street so with less traffic. Good range of craft beers and plenty of seat, inside or in the backyard.
I tried the food once, nothing amazing. But I'll definitely go back for a drink !
O. B.
A Newtown classic, its big and spacious with lots of games to pass time. Great selection of food and beer, there's a wait here for the food but its worth it. The outdoor vibe creates a great atmosphere, and definitely makes you want to come back.
M. S.
It has a very good environment
i. y.
Funky grungy pub with nice outdoor seating. Very Newtown. Mullets optional
V. R.
I love this place on a sunny day. The outdoor area is big and beautiful. But the indoor area is grotty, so if the weather is iffy, steer clear. Nice menu, good selection of beer on tap.
J. B. &. t. S.
Top staff, quality feed, tasty beverages....as good as it was in the 90s xo
D. B.
Always good. Inclusive. Lively. Great to have the outdoor bar as well. Good food also and great to see Stone and wood on tap. …
M. E.
Very nice. Following covid protocol
H. P.
Good spot for a beer with a great beer garden out back. Reasonable priced beers and drinks with a good selection. Can get a bit crowded around the bar area if watching the footy etc. Never seen anyone angry there, normally a good crowd
S. C.
Yummy pub food, good variety with well sized portions. Not overly priced. Pleasant courtyard dining or inside in air conditioning. I have eaten here several times and the food is always consistently good.
A. C.
Usually love this place with its friendly Inner West vibes. However the bouncer was very rude and unfriendly and kept asking my partner and I if 'we'd been anywhere before this'. It was a strange question, it was really early in the night, and we were stone cold sober.
L. W.
Good place for a beer and the managers and owner were friendly. The food took an hour to come out and the kitchen staff was very rude about it. Luckily the manager was a good bloke.
C. I.
The counter meals are varied and reasonably priced. The vegetarian lasagne is excellent. The choice of drinks on tap is also very good. Excellent place for a weekend lunch.
N. L.
Great easy going pub.
T. S.
If you're visiting Sydney, you have to visit the courthouse. Although all the locals (me included) will tell you all about how much better it was a few years ago (it's true), this is still an establishment you have to try. Swing by on a weekend and try to grab a table. It's your perfect mix of beautiful Newtown locals, a safe space for all it's characters, and what you'd expect from any 'Strayan pub. I miss the old hot chips with rosemary salt, though. Good vegetarian options! Always feel at home here.
S.
Newtown's best beer garden
Trashingo and a bunch of other fun things to keep punters returning.
Decent food from the kitchen, albeit a little pricey for pub grub.
Pokies for those that want them, pinnies and some arcade games too.
Great pub
J. W.
Damn I love this place. Awesome vibes and cool staff, even though it can be extremely busy at times. Security staff are actually friendly (not insane power-mad tyrants like some other Newtown bars). Highly recommend.
R. T.
The courty as it's liked to be called. It's a great pub with great staff and nice chairs and tables. The pinball room keeps the sounds a coming with their pinballs and sounds. I asked for two schooners of Furphy and the bar keep said "Would you like a jug instead, it's cheaper for you?" I said yes and then me and my friend Matt drank that jug responsibly. We had another another one responsibly too.
R. N.
There's nothing not to like about this place, awesome sunday hang out. Only thing I wish they do is serve kids meals to adults, the dishes are huge portion and food is going to be wasted with people like me that has a tiny tummy. Another thing they could improve is open up another tab as it get's really hectic on peak hours and you line up for ages but I'm giving this place 5 stars regardless.
S. G.
The Court House hotel has the local pub feel indoors with a large beer garden area with plenty of table space. The pub also has a strong AFL touch to it with plenty of sporting memorabilia and the always show the games on the weekend. After a hard day of walking around Newtown it is a nice spot to relax.
C. T.
This place is an institution for a reason. It's grungy, daggy cool, great beer garden area, friendly staff. Got a nice wine list as well. The nachos will seriously feed three people. The courty burger is great too.
C. S.
We really love this place. Super cosy and lovely. The backyard is airy and sunny. We ordered the steak and the spaghetti and they were very good! Food is served very fast
A.
Pinball machines. $2 bucks a game, who cares. So hard to find a decent machine these days. Good beer and a feed too. Friendly staff. Pretty casual place. I like it, so will you. Cheers😄🍻
J. H.
Great bar with a chill atmosphere, great food at a good price and a great place to watch the swans game any weekend. The Beer garden allows for good outside dining. Great during the week when it is less busy
K. S.
The Courthouse is a great Atmosphere. It has cheap food and a very chilled enviroment. Good for a relaxing drink with mates. Food is quick and hearty. Would recommend looking up events for the night you are planning on going. Lots of fun and would highly reccomend it.
J. C.
Beer and pinball is a compelling combo, as pubs go it's not easy to go past the courthouse hotel. With a good selection of beer and a great outdoor eating area it can get quite busy, but on a Saturday on Sunday afternoon its a great place to catch up or just to relax.
O. B. Q.
Nice food, nice place and nice atmosphere.
A. G.
This is Newtown's best bar. Hands down. Huge beer garden always filled with excellent banter and good times.
And if you want to see a swans (or any other big afl match) they're always showing with sound and a sizable viewership.
A. F.
This is by far my favourite pub in Sydney! Here’s why:
- Two bars that smash out the drinks
- Massive beer garden, indoor area and smoking area
- Great beers on tap, mainly ales and lagers
- Great pub food at affordable prices, try the parmy 👌
- A games room with a buck hunter
- Super friendly staff who love a chat
- Great to watch any sport, especially an AFL game
- And to top it off they sell take away drinks for when a roady is needed 🤙
Go check it out, you won’t be disappointed
A. G.
Love the backyard area. Such a nice vibe and plenty of space for big group of friends. Nice decor with photos of music legends.
Recommend from monday to sunday!
W. C.
Had they xmas party last Monday afternoon
M. m.
Classic old Sydney style pub with a good set up. Cool beer garden and service to tables via nfc/qr system
F.
Great pub food, bevs, and fun atmosphere. Dog friendly 👌
R.
Great pub food, generous serving sizes. Great place to hang out in the afternoon, not too crowded at that time of day and I absolutely loved the rock themed pinball machines.
L. W.
Good place for a beer and the managers and owner were friendly. The food took an hour to come out and the kitchen staff was very rude about it. Luckily the manager was a good bloke.
M. R. (.
Great cider, great atmosphere, even polite clientele on a Sat night. Looks a bit rough around the edges but definitely has a heart of gold. I'll be back next time I'm in Newtown.
M. M.
The Trusty Courty! Where the service is always with a smile, the company is always different and the beers are always cold.
There are several places to hang out at the courty, the smoking area (dog friendly), the courtyard (dog friendly and you can also eat here) the balcony (a beautiful place to people watch), the pool tables or the gaming rooms.
The courty also serves a decent pub feed as well as a selection of local beers on tap.
D. H.
Met my ex wife here, and hope to meet my future exwife here sometime soon aswell. Newtown is such a great place to hang out and enjoy the atmosphere. The place just magnifies the whole newtown scene. and there are plenty of lovely ladies on scene
B. D.
Best pub in Newtown. Nice beers, good food and friendly staff.
J. W.
Great vibes, friendly staff. We bought our puppy into the beer garden and the security guard bought over food and water for him. 100% would recommend!
C. W.
Best possible combination for an inner west pub. Beer gardens - smoking and non, adults and kids. Dingy indoors. Good pub food. Craft beers. Zero pretension. Worthy of your time.
J. S.
A local pub with great outdoor seating, good beer selection and great pub meals. Can get quite crowded especially in warmer weather but still worth stopping in, having a drink and soaking up the local atmosphere.
J. P.
Honestly the best pub in Newtown. Particularly good in summer, sit outside with a jug of beer under the trees, it's lovely. Very chill place
M. A.
Great atmosphere and choice of beer, I just wish they had more vegan options. The dog friendly beer garden is definitely a plus.
a. a.
This is the best hotel in inner Sydney. Great atmosphere, love the beer garden and the music is awesome. The pub food is great also. Beautiful place to be on a Sunday arvo.
H. W.
By far the best pub in Sydney. Biggest beer garden by far. Nice English vibe with a Newtown twist.
N. H.
Nice pub great food reasonable.prices staff very friendly..can take your dog there as well.they dont open till midday
K.
One of favourites in Newtown. Very chilled, decent food & great beer garden
S. G.
Good place to hit some piss (beer).
J. A.
If someone gutted their house and turned it into a pub for the local crowd, thats this place. A pool table, pinball machines, football and rugby on the TVs and an incredible beer garden, especially on a sunny afternoon.
E. R.
A venue that caters for any occasion with a wide selection of beverages. Great staff, Great ambience and well priced drinks. You can see why its a popular destination for groups of friends on a sunny day.
G. P.
It's always really busy and lively at the Courty. Queues at the bar can be frustrating but the beer garden is great and they have a great (cheap) menu full of standard pub fare with good vego options
S. R.
Pub food and drinks in a relaxed backyard garden allowing puppies. What more can you ask for on a sunny day in Newtown! Indoor seating available
G. Q.
Always rowdy. Full of young people. Wide selection of international and local artisan craft brews. Good place to meet up and see where the night leads.
C. S.
Don't be a cynical business solitel, you know everyone loves the nachos so why the massive downgrade in your new menu, the new size is smaller than the old small and you charge 2 bucks extra for jalapenos... Blatant profiteering.
G. A.
Really cool old venue with lots of history within the walls of the old courthouse.
Bloody marys on special, jurassic 5 playing, arcade games, Tarantino trivia, dog friendly...
Whats not to like..
H. M.
Very nice atmosphere and good drink selection, but in my opinion some of the dishes on the menu are somewhat bland.
l.
One of the go to for local casual drinks & light meals in the Inner West. Courty caters veggie/vegan options - nachos. The venue is in a great location not too far from Newtown Station.
S. J.
A lovely pub away from the King St bustle but not too far either. Variety of beers on tap. Indoor and outdoor areas. Decent food options.
A.
Always packed due to popularity but an abundance of seats means never having to wait long if at all. Very dog friendly outside and the staff even have snacks for them!
C. G.
This is my favourite pub in Newtown. If you enjoy AFL it's a great place to go and cheer on the swans. The burgers are a good option for dinner.
P. E.
Great pub. Good beer garden. Good food. Has pinball machines. Great range of beers.
Gets very busy, so plan to get in early on weekends.
R. H.
Great place to take your dog for a drink, good pub food. Super friendly staff. They feed my doggos leftover steal sometimes.
L. R.
Great pub, fantastic outdoor area and food
V. M.
One of my favourite local haunts. Very busy all the time, great mix of patrons, cool music and food is not too bad if you want easy, quick and reasonable price.
L. K.
Used to be our local pub, and still keep coming. Very nice beer garden and food. They even have wifi now. Superbly grimy on the inside.
T. D.
Whilst traditional on the outside the venue boasts an impressive outside area and kitchen
O. K.
Such an amazing place with large patios, communal tables, arcade games, good selection of beers, awesome local joint
L. C.
Love sitting in the beer garden at the Courthouse, great pub food and plenty of beer on tap.
Update: 1 November 2012.
The inside needs some renovations, very old and dusty.
A. D.
Lovely crowd, friendly, perfect for friends and couples
Feel free to have a convo with anyone there I guarantee you won't be disappointed
T. S.
Great bar with lovely vibes and dog friendly. The weekly special price for meals has gone up but still good quality.
A. O.
Used hotel mainly the outside eatng area for dinner with my daughter recently returned from 6 years oseas. Food good. Didnt meet her expectations from years ago. Would fully recommend but under fligt path so a bit of repeating oneself. Therefore 4 stars only.
H. H.
Nice location, great food, fair prices. Especially the garden is great to meet friends and have a beer or two.
M. F.
Such a good pub the security here are so nice especially cat she’s my favourite
J. J.
Deadset best pub in Sydney. Great beers, full of legends, foods great (though a tad expensive). Wouldn't recommend it more highly
T. D. L.
They don't have a big selection of beers but the atmosphere it's perfect if U want hang out with friends ..
A. M.
Cool corner for beer and banter!
M. M. G.
Sweet pub tucked just off the main drag in Newtown. "The Courty" as its known locally offers a sizeable courtyard with stacks of tables chairs and an outside bar to boot. The bar food is crazy good with the schnitty being my favourite. The house cut wedges are killer also! Plenty of beers and wine choices.. AFL often on TV thou... steal the remote from the barchicks! Great venue to start a night or weeknight chill out!!
K. H.
Doggos allowed outside. Inside and outside, bathrooms are cool, you can get meals but it will take a while, food is pub food, you can book functions, people are friendly. Can get crowded.
L. M.
Great pinball selection and decent beer. Could switch it up a bit with the beer but seems like they favour Young Henry's. Always a fun crowd here
E.
Great music and super chill staff. The floor plan's a bit weird but in a good way. Had a great time there.
O. W.
I might be easily impressed, but their self-serve Sriracha sauce makes the hot chips on your plate sing!
O. T.
The joy of the weekly meat raffle is overshadowed only by the looming feeling of discomfort and tension that exists throughout the whole venue when it starts to get busy. At least there are dogs.
J. W.
Best place for beers in the sun
D. M.
This is one of my favourite pubs in Sydney, got a really relaxed vibe and always friendly, a good place to start or finish a night out in Newtown.
C. B.
I have been going to the courthouse for years. The drinks are affordable, the staff are lovely, the location is mint. See you guys again soon 😘
C. L. C.
Love this little local pub. Can get a bit crowded on weekends with internationals and students but its a perfect weekday and day drinking spot.
L. P.
Friendly, helpful staff. The most dog friendly place around. Thanks!
B. D.
One of the best pinball venues in Sydney 6 great condition machines and a good range of local craft beer on tap
R. M.
Good pub in a good location, great to see them enforcing COVID rules but still having a good time
T. N.
great local hang out joint. gets busy though, the line at the bar can get long. no complaints
J. P.
Always a favourite because our dogs can rest after a run in the park while we have a beer! Best dog friendly pub.
N. S.
Hipsters and yuppies crowd in here but if you can stand them you'll love the nachos. Best in da inner west. which is, as we all know, da best
W. F.
It's a good place to meet, and as far as pubs go it's pretty decent. The food menu is unimaginative and the courtyard gets crowded sometimes.
N. M.
Always come in for a pit stop with the dog, had the courty burger with bacon and it was awesome. Always a good place for either a quick beer or a bit of a session.
A. M.
Nice beer selection, true environment, good vibes...definitely one of the best Aussie pub that I have ever experienced. Must try!
A. Z.
Good pub. Dog friendly which is flipping amazing, and they gave us dog treats and water for my furbaby. Also their nachos are so so good
D. C.
Good food options including vegan and vegetarian. Awesome ambience. Warm in winter and lovely staff.
E. L.
I always love coming here! Its my favorite bar/pub in Newtown. Great vibe, lots of space and friendly staff.
H. H.
A lovely, friendly local pub that typifies Newtown. A beautiful beer garden and some yummy food. Gets busy on Friday and Saturday nights.
J. S.
Quaint and enjoyable atmosphere. Seems the young folk stick to the outdoors and the *ahem* more rough folk stick to the bar.. lovely security too.
P. M.
Haven't been there for a couple of years, still a great, local, pub. Could have a conversation with my friend in a community environment.
A. M.
Traditional pub, popular with students and alternative types. Lovely vibe. Food and drink options are quite ordinary and not particularly good value.
T. W.
Awsome little beer garden. Great pub full of character.
A. S.
Amazing food and always a great atmosphere. Been my go to pub in Newtown for years.
A. P.
Decent spot, great court yard. Young crowd on a Friday night. Staff are friend even if a little slow. Happily go back though
M. J.
Great pub for a beer and food. Enough variety of drinks, enough variety of good food, all in a great beer garden. What more can you ask for?
B.
Nice place. I wish they had more food choices.
A. B.
Great to see the Courty following proper physical distancing/hygiene guidelines and all the customers happy to comply. Also an amazing parmy as always!
C. B.
Used to be a hidden treasure but since a recent price hike and menu change combined with a mission to attract the masses, its lost a lot of its charm. Just another profit orientated pub that's lost its way.
L. S.
One of our regular meeting spots for friends. Good outdoor seating ( indoors is gloomy). Good Barford reasonably priced
A. T.
Great pub, nice big beer garden, good tunes, good range of beer on tap and.... about 6 quality pinball machines. I wish this place was my local.
T.
Good atmosphere. Food is great. Inside looks a bit dated, and a bit gloomy. Sitting outside is definitely better.
A. T.
Dog friendly, people are very nice and are happy to chat, good food and well priced. Atmosphere - outside eating arrangements are well done.
E. C.
Great food, good drinks at decent prices. The beer garden is great, with lots of shade and dog friendly.
J. C.
Great pub away from the craziness of King St. Massive beer garden and great selection of beers. Gets quite busy on the weekend, but the space allows for it without feeling crowded.
S. L.
Good pub food. Hard to find a spot on weekends particularly as it warms up.
Good outdoor seating space.
N. D.
Busy pub, great outdoor area. The food was really good and fast service.
Very casual overall a good pub!
A. E.
Love the place, laid back with a nice patio friendly staff and good drinks. There are also some very well maintained pinball machines.
C. P.
Great food, great vibe, pet friendly... Newtown institution
S. M.
Just feels nice there. Cool place, cool people, food is great, beer garden is comfy and there's a big area outside for smockers.
m. p.
Nice divey bar with outdoor seating. Worth stopping in for a pint if you're in the area.
T.
i Love thw hugs of beer and the dog friendly vibe! Plus huge fans of AFL, do like 👍👍

Great pub. Busy at night's but homely during the day. Welcoming staff and not too expensive
V. P.
Great atmosphere. Food and drinks are good and reasonable price. Outdoor area has a great vibe.
M. L.
One of my true favorites. Mix of patrons ~ both young and old ~ who go to meet their friends or enjoying some 'me time'.
Love it.
M. R.
Fantastic bar food. Great atmosphere, friendly vibes. Great for an evening beer or a weekend session.

A fantastic and vibrant place. Love the craft beers and bangers & mash. Can't chat, off to play the pinballs…
N. L.
Great beer selection, good food, nice location with lot of tables and friendly environment. I love it.
C. G.
The courthouse is iconic and a must to visit . Eclectic interiors and a multitude of different spaces to hang out. The staff are friendly . Love it
S. M.
If you get here early enough on a weekend it's a great venue for a social beer, but after 4 it's impossible to find a seat
R. B.
Nice atmosphere. Big outdoor area. Haven't eaten but the food looks 👌
G. L.
Good selection of drinks and yummy food. Menu is a little overpriced, thats my only criticism :)
A. G.
Excellent beer garden but get there early to get a spot.
Also one of the next venues in Sydney for showing the AFL.
M. K.
This pub is just okay, but nothing special. A bit smaller inside, but the outside is nice.
A. F.
Smiling staff, friendly locals, excellence on tap everywhere. Feel right at home every time I stop in there. Wish it was my local
A. V.
Love the Courty. Great outdoor beer garden. Food is pretty decent. Awesome location nearby King St and Camperdown park
M. E.
Love the Courthouse, great venue for a catch up over a drink, can be busy and loud inside but they have a large beer garden so don't fear
J. Z.
A local icon, great vegetarian options and generous portions, overall a chill and perfect place to hang out for a drink with your mates.
C. B.
Solid outdoor area. Beautiful for Sunday arvo drinks with friends.
Always a little bit squishy at the bar. Don't try and park close.
J. J.
Friendly people and great garden, great place to chill and catch up with friends
z. g.
Interesting venue, relaxed environment, great service, great food, great beer.
T. R.
Great food, friendly staff (especially the bouncer) and we were hooked on the artists memorial wall - a good way to meet the locals.
T. N.
Pub with lovely garden and good menu. Very easy place to spend a few hours 😎
C.
Wouldn't tell from outside but has a huge outdoor area. Good for big groups or casual drinks, but can lack a bit of atmosphere sometimes.

Great for groups. Weeknight events and specials. Mad hipster vibes. The wait for drinks on weekends can be pretty outrageous though.
J. M.
A favourite watering hole whenever I'm in Sydney. Can't wait to get back.

Love everything about this place, besides the staff. Rude, lazy, entitled losers. They are basically the definition of a millennial, giving millennials like myself a bad name.
S. M.
Awesome food... try the chipotle chicken burger and the chips are the best! Super friendly staff that are always helpful too!
A. M.

This place is not what it used to be. Come here to witness the slow creep towards Paddington sensibilities without the qualifying cityscape.

Pretty good place to chill. Throngs of white middle class twenty to thirty somethings on the weekends and evenings. You can always overhear and interesting conversation here.
D. K.
Nice place to chill with a great crowd more often than not... unfortunately due to it's location, not a place that will let you kick on too late. Closes early.

Great atmosphere and crowd. I have liked this place for many years

Everybody love this piace in newtown, atmosphere is great, it's busy, service is really fast and good but food isn't anything special.
S. K.
Good lively spot for drinks, security is friendly if you're friendly and behaviour yourself, nice enough crowd - easy going
J. S. A.
Very popular, gets a little too busy at times, but that popularity is justified. The Courthouse is notoriously good, a Newtown icon.

W. K.
Great local pub with a great beer garden. This place is quintessentially newtown.

I used to love this place but now it's just run down and manky. It wouldn't be hard to fix, just gerni everything in the beer garden and all the awnings

T. G.
Good food, great live Irish music every second Wednesday.
