The Criterion Hotel is a 1936 Inter-War Art Deco hotel, corner of Park and Streets. This beautiful articulated face brick façade has been carrying on from the original name of Criterion Theatre which was the original business that occupied the current site. The loadbearing and terracotta tiles with timber windows make for a stunning façade. It is compared to the Edinburgh Castle Hotel down the corner of Pitt and Bathurst Streets for its long existence in the area carrying the same name all these years. Love walking past here and admiring its beautiful façades especially knowing its history. It still operates today as hotel providing budget accommodation as well as a licensed pub. Worth a peek.

A great pub. Not pretentious, not trying to be something it's not, not trying to be 'cool'. Just really good at being a comfortable place that enjoys sport and appreciates it's art deco vibe. Love it when you walk in and it feels like home.
J. R.
Good, well run traditional pub. The range of beers in tap is more than sufficient and the kitchen produces the dishes you expect, properly and quickly. The location is extremely convenient, good place to meet.

Been using this watering hole in my visits to downtown Sydney for about twenty
Years. On and off I don’t you. I have witnessed the remarkable changes wrought by gentrification and modernisation. The Criterion Hotel is a Sydney landmark that has provided generations of Sydney booze lovers from post World War Two, through to the Vietnam war when thousands of Yanks would spend their RnR in Sydney up until the current plethora of tribal Sydney. Back in 2016 I B spent a memorable Anzac Day with ‘S’, a lovely and hyper sexy gal that I hoped to marry. However by June (Anzac Day Australia is on 25 April). The Criterion Hotel was one of those ye olde pubs that has been transformed into a digital betting and drinking hole. All good. One must accept the changes of progress and let it go. A massive and giant screen dominates the southern wall and a circular revolving screen emits the sports broadcasts hanging like an old mansion chandelier in the middle of the roof. Another humongous screen dominates the bar service area as well. You can’t escape the digital pollution unless you’re blind. Thankfully the volume is lowered so I’ve had the ability to talk. Not that I had anyone to talk with. My lonely desperate life continues without friend or lover. I wrote a short story today in a burst of energy when I observed a beautiful fair skinned damsel sitting opposite me. She caught me staring at her and I can only hope that she wasn’t freaked out. Anyway I wrote a story about her and a phone call she received whilst she was sipping on a pint of beer. An assortment of Sydney characters frequent the Criterion Hotel. One old guy today must have received his mail order bride because he couldn’t sit straight with his well dressed much younger bride. It’s like he was dating to the pub patrons, “I can’t believe how lucky I am!” Suffice to say it will end in tears of regret. Even I as desperately single as I am wouldn’t go for a twenty to thirty year age difference because it’s just not going to work out. Pints were about $11.00, which is ridiculous but the current set price across Sydney and NSW pubs. They have food, accomodation and a seperate ‘no arm bandit’ gambling den. But my cup of tea but when I went there to suck on my vape it was active with pinball sounds, smoking and boozing, a traditional and commonplace environment for Sydneysiders. I’ll be back in my next downtown visit. I spent $40 on four beers and enjoyed my reading and beer time. Good place. Fun pub. If visiting Sydney check it to get an overview of Sydney culture.

I was having a critical moment and was coming in as last drinks were called, and was informed by the staff of this, and I explained my plight they were highly professional and caring to the nature of my situation and I am extremely thankful for the bartender who assisted me. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!
S. B.
Could possibly be the best pint of Guinness in Sydney.
When the Irish bar downstairs opens this place will really go off
S. G.
Excellent service, friendly staff, love the new renovations. Overall, great hotel/pub!

Service was quite good.
Lunch special was good value for money.
Guess it's a Sydney thing but drinks were really expensive.
Very handy location, close to Town Hall station.
I came after the lunch rush and was the only person in the bistro.
Meal was neant to be a green curry but was more like a red one, quite tasty though, well prepared and a generous serving.
Always nice in an Irish themed pub when the bartender has a thick Irish accent, makes it seem a lot more authentic :)
M. C.
Good for a beer and a bite to eat without the fan fare. Staff are great. Desperately in need of renovations but this may jack up the prices. Would recommend this hotel if you aren't looking for a 5 star rating but wouldn't sleep here. Plenty of sports channels as well.

Very good, clean and a very basic hotel in an excellent location! It is a cool old building, a bit shabby but the room and the bed were fine, everything was clean and the staff was very friendly. It is very "bare bones", not a fancy place, but for the price it's absolutely wonderful! There is a tea kettle. No hair dryer, but it's ok! :)
M. D.
Service was friendly in bistro, though empty tables weren't cleaned promptly and were a bit sticky. What you'd expect for a CBD pub on a Friday night. Most importantly the beer was good and in true Irish fashion they come in pints.
M. T.
Absolutely beautiful.Excellent value, prompt and attentive service with complete resort amenities makes Criterion the place to stay. Our room was clean and comfortable. The food in the restaurant was well prepared and of course, the views are spectacular.
L. A.
Room was small but pleasant. Shared bathrooms were clean but a bit old and grubby looking. Rooms are up a lot of stairs, so keep that in mind if you're unfit like me. Service was really good - our booking website didn't book us in correctly but the staff managed to sort out a room for us.
L. P.
The food is ok but a little over priced for what you get. A pretty standard pub with all the regular facilities. Has a good atmosphere when busy. Conveniently located in the centre of the city. Schnitzels could be better. Not a huge selection of beers on tap but enough to find something you like.
A. B.
It is a very tranquil place made special by the wonderful staff who go out of their way to ensure your stay is really memorable. The chefs are top notch too. There are great numbers of birds in the surrounding gardens to enjoy.Very wonderful place I would gladly return to if I get the chance.

The amount of times I've walked into this hotel after a long hard day of work. The bar tenders are always welcoming and make your day.
They never disappoint on they daily specials and 9 dollar pints of furphys.
G. B.
Good old bar- toilets were broken
D. N.
Good mixture of people here. Drink prices are fair.
Good location in Sydney CBD.
Staff and security are both friendly.
Good to see nice security staff as these are rare in Sydney these days.
L. B.
Always a good spot to catch up with mates for Friday night drinks after work. Chilled laid back vibe. Love that they have retained an old school pub look but kept it modern. Delish burgers and potato wedges to top off the evening
F. N.
Thank you to the staff who accommodated us on the first floor. It was a life saver. Cheapest rates I've seen for a long while. Fresh towels and comfy beds. Aircon works well and the kettle was clean. No frills room.
A. K.
Had a meal there before and knew the standard. Ordered the lamb shanks and was not disappointed. The meat was cooked for 10 hours and tender. You didn't need a knife to cut it... Just your fork. Wanted to go caveman and grab it and tear into it but resisted!! Went so well with the pint of Guinness!!!
J. M.
Pretty average pub. Priced well for the CBD, but honestly tired and not the most friendly service.
Also had a schooner of Little Creatures Pale and it was so disgusting I couldn't finish it. Must be the dirtiest beer lines in town.

After booking this hotel for my first ever visit to Australia, i read some of the negative reviews and was a bit concerned.
However, having stayed 2 nights so far, i have booked a further 10 nights.
The staff were very helpful on arrival, coffee n tea in room, and fresh towel daily. And there is wifi in the room?! The rooms and bathroom are basic but.....what the hell do people expect at the price, given the location slap bang in the middle of Sydney!
M. Y.
It's a good pub. If you like Guinness you're in luck!
e.
Older style Irish pub, with plenty of "character". The food was surprisingly very good, but they didn't have a lot of choice for ciders (had ran out of most).
A. P.
Warwick is one of the oldest European settlements in Queensland, and so naturally has a lot of history on its streets.
But something special about the townscape is its sense of unity: The stately sandstone buildings around the CBD mostly date from a period of redevelopment in the late-19th century and early-20th century following a flood.
There’s a concentration of this Federation architecture over a few blocks on the parallel Palmerin, Albion and Guy Streets, waiting to be enjoyed on a gentle walk.
Some of the standouts are Warwick Town Hall (1888), the Court House (1886), St Andrew’s Uniting Church (1870), the Post Office (1898), the Criterion Hotel (1917), Condamine Sports Club (1913) and St George’s Lodge (1887).

Right in the centre of the city and right near state theatre which is perfect for a before or after show drink. Service is standard and hotel is in an ok state, definitely needs a refurb and exposed wires in underground part of hotel is an eye saw. Pokie room is rather dirty and rather smelly. Bathroom facilities definitely need a more frequent clean as bathroom smells can be detected from common areas. Didnt stay here so no comment about rooms as I didnt see them...
R. C.
Value for money, freshly laid carpets, new bathroom. Great for a short stay with a group or family. Very friendly staff.

Sophia was a excellent bartender and allowed me and my girlfriend to have a great time with no stress. Thank you very much Sophia!!
F. E.
Highly recommend the steak & Guinness pie and the fish & chips. A little loud on the inside (it IS an Irish pub), but the street views are good and it was easy to find a good spot on a Friday night.
M. U.
if your not a "clean fanatic" the stay here is good - you are in the hart of the city for a very reasonable price, stuff is very friendy and you have a AC. I wouldn't come here with my family (kids) but for young travelers this is a perfect place!
G. A.
Decent food and drinks. Has a small room for slot machines. Pretty dark and old ambiance. Prices are fair.
J. M.
Cute traditional bar with pints of beer. Undergoing some renovations to restore it to it's former glory.
Has a Big Buck Hunter machine which is a bonus.
J. N.
Pretty cool. The pub is classic. Staying in the rooms gets you what you paid for. Irish meatballs and a pint was a good fill.
E. O.
What a lovely building. There are a lot of good fun around this area. Have a go at the restaurants too. There is a good pub, friendly service.
D. W.

A well lit little Irish bar just off the bustle of George St. It varies from quiet after work drinks to an after party hubub.
D. B.

J. J.

R. G.
Nice pub with a good beer selection. The food is average at best, but that's not why you would go there.
K. H.

J. A.
Busy Irish pub. Usually a bit quieter down stairs. Great Guinness.
f.
Good sports bar
K. G.
Ordered a beef and Guiness pie. Pie was good but the mashed potato was cold and lumpy. Service was quick, though.
D. C.
Dive pub. Nothing special. Serves beer and spirits. There's Keno and TAB.
G. J. R.
very basic hotel on top of a bar, if you enjoy the noise and the non-existent amenities, this is your place.
S. P.

Aging and has a strange smell inside. Service was friendly.
G. S.
Criterion is a fun pub with a good atmosphere, a nice downstairs area and a couple of great beers on tap
D. P.
They poured me a pint. Then they poured me another. Between this and my reasonably amicable ejection, there were good times to be had.
N. H.
Sad to see that this late night special has become a chain Irish pub. Staff still friendly, but I miss the individuality.
D. G.
It’s very convenient to enjoy a beer here while waiting for a bus at the bus stop “stand K” which is right outside.
