Comments of Four in Hand Pub
J. F.
Booked for 645pm Friday night with a swans game on. Very strict at the door about booking or not. I would suggest it doesnt seem like a walk in pub... ordered beers from an okay selection from tap, no sours on tap. Food was good. We ordered the lamb shoulder (which take about 45 mins to come out) but it was good, great size for $79. The gnoocchi that we ordered we think they forgot it as it was too crispy on the outside and gooey inside and when we followed up the order they rushed it out... not worth $25. Steak was good quality and a large serving of fries. Would recommend if you have booked. Security were friendly, other staff not so much.

Nestled in the hack streets of Paddington this beautifully renovated pub is perfect for a relaxing meal and drink. It has a wide selection of beers, wines, spirits and cocktails so you won't be disappointed. The real star here is the food, well presented, cooked to perfection and utterly. Good luck trying to find food you don't want to try. The lamb shoulder for two is divine and paired with the duck fat potatoes and carrots side dish you will be happy.
A. C.
Lamb shoulder is to die for. It's plenty for two and everything is marvellous. Sit upstairs for quiet or downstairs for a more usual pub vibe. Selection of beers is also great, 25 taps.

On a quest to enjoy the best Sunday roast in Sydney and the Oracle demanded we attended at Four in Hand hotel. It didn't disappoint. A plate piled high with delicious roast beef, crunchy potatoes and the biggest Yorkshire pudding that I've ever seen made it a contender for the crown. More importantly, the friendly atmosphere and enjoyable Sunday vibe helped me relax for a big week. A must see for Sunday

Great little pub for drinks and a nibble,
Spacious and elegantly designed, clean and well maintained venue Located in the heart of Paddington, corner of Sutherland street, 5 mins walk from five ways.
Always a great selection of beers and wines and very tempting $15 daily specials
Steaks are always amazing and well cooked.
S. K.
It's a fancy restaurant that happens to be attached to a pub but it's not your average pub food. Good was good and generously portioned. The squid was very good and tender.
A. S.
Ben Halin’s chocolate mousse cake is VERY GOOD! If you have room after a delicious main to fit in dessert, get around this cake.
Had the roast beef for a main. Yum. Thanks Four In Hand!
O. P.
I went for trivia and had a great time. Awesome pub food, good burger, steaks and large chicken schnitzel. Cosy and friendly.
C. G.
Very atmospheric pub. Great location and friendly staff. Food was delicious - I had the Poke Bowl with Salmon. First time I’d ever eaten here so a really pleasant surprise. Staff so helpful and even charged my friend’s phone for her- very welcoming- and therefore I’ll be back for sure!
B. S.
Good pub and decent food. Sunday Roast was nice but ruined by the lack of gravy and "roasted" potatoes then wanting to charge for extra gravy on a table of 6 - gravy is only cheap, so not sure why they feel they need to charge extra for it when it should be part of a roast?! 🤦♂️
J. L. W.
Fabulous little Paddo pub with classic design and delicious food. There are several different sections of the pub for either a more cosy feel or a group setting. Sunday roast is on point, and the staff are very friendly and accommodating.
H. A.
Food was amazing! I had fillet steak and it was cooked to perfection. Hubby had the beef and guiness pie and said it was delicious! Will definitely come back. The staff were lovely and the place had a nice feel to it.
T. B.
Great little pub with excellent food. Staff are friendly.
C. O.
I had a business meeting here which turned into a lunch.
The food was fantastic and the menu had plenty of Gluten Free options.
The owner and staff were great too, very welcoming. TJ the barman was a cracking great bloke
E. N.
Love the atmosphere and the food is really good. Bar service can be a bit slow and wine selection is a bit mediocre. Good local pub and generous sizes for meals.
R. S.
Sunday Roast verdict. Solid 7/10. Didn't have proper roasites more like new potatoes. Veg was nice but a bit more would have been better. Beef was lovley. Yorkies were overdone. Not fluffy but quite hard. You need more gravy on thr plate too!! Would go again maybe after 6 months.
n. m.
Very attentive staff and well managed. Food was ok without being remarkable. Wine list had some interesting choices if a little extra.
V. W.
The chefs here are incredible! Best food in the Eastern Suburbs.. highly recommend. I’m never disappointed after my visits here.
J. B.
Awesome Pub. The new crew has really turned it around. Great friendly vibes and beer selection. But special mention for Danny the chef who made us an amazing dinner. The food has made the 4 my new local. Always a great special on offer and the daily cheap meal special cuts no corners. Highly recommend coming in for a meal or snack with your beers.
A. F.
Best pub food I've had. Party of 20 in private room, the food was excellent and plentiful. We had a beautiful Antipasto platter, filled by mains of chicken, steak, fish, vegetables and chips. All the dishes were fresh and cooked to perfection. The service was excellent.
S. M.
One of the better Sunday roasts on our Sunday Roast adventures. Only slight complaint is that there could be extra gravy, we would happy have paid a few more dollars for a little jug of gravy. There was no gravy on my Yorkshire pudding, although it was a great yorkie, she really needed some extra gravy. The beef was tender and very tasty. Great selection of beers on tap.
It was odd that even though we booked a table of 3 people for 2pm lunch we had a tiny bar table that physically cannot fit 3 lunch plates on, so we had to drag another table over. Overrall would return
S. W.
Great place with loads of craft ale available. A big open bar area with plenty of high top tables around the outside edge. Large screens, good for sport. Great food menu. Was as busy as a Saturday night when we went in for the Sunday roast. The roast was very good, that was probably why. Found at the bottom of a slope if you are coming from the Oxford Street direction.
G. E.
Guy pub food
Fantastic staff.
Great pub.
C. -.
Food was alright, good price for the size though! Steak is nice. Weekly deals are good value or else food is a bit expensive! Should get a kids menu though. Staff aren’t really that great to be honest. Probably won’t be back, better pubs in Paddington.
J. J.
Such a cute pub. Great Sunday roast. Toasty warm in winter. Croquettes are so delicious!
L. K.
Enjoyed our dinner so much...The share plates were incredible. Food was bursting with flavour. We had the opportunity to meet the head chef Danny so impressed with him. He explained the origins of the ingredients of our dishes and was so passionate about the food. Can't wait to go again.
J. B.
Can't go wrong with the chicken schnitzel
J. E.
Fabulous old-style pub. Good buzz, good grub. Not outrageously priced, and when what you want is your mates' company rather than a hundred dollar meal with table service, it's hard to beat. Very happy the old girl was saved!
s. e.
Had dinner recently. Impressive how easily they accommodated my allergies. Good atmosphere. Cosy. Would recommend.
G. L.
Wow! What a great Sunday roast! Beef perfectly cooked, medium rare, moist, tender and full of flavour. Really tasty gravy, Veg piled high and topped off with two more tasty sauces. Yorkshire pud was enormous. Best Sunday roast so far on our Sunday roast Adventures.
E. G.
Great pub with excellent food. Not much space but if you can get in the front main pub room, great place for a sesh!
B. F.
Very good for a group. Great staff.
O. W.
Food has improved. Post Colin fassnidge it went downhill but had snitty special last night and it was excellent. Will be back
J. S.
I booked dinner at the restaurant and we had the tasting menu. It was excellent! As expected with this kind of meal the portions are small but the food was beautifully rich and we both left feeling full but not as if we'd stuffed ourselves. If you are not somewhat adventurous about food you might find some of the dishes challenging (pigs tail, tongue, bone marrow) but honestly you're missing out and they were generally paired to accent a dish. We found the service exceptional and the staff delightful. I'd been wanting to try this place for a while and am very glad I did. Very highly recommended!
H. L.
One of my favourite places in Paddington. Typical pub feel but with a slightly more sophisticated feel. Always a great atmosphere and the food is even better. Their burger is always on the "best burgers in Sydney" list and I am not surprised. The meat is juicy, delicious and perfectly teamed with house-made pickles, cheese and a generous side of chips.
They also do a whole suckling pork belly for parties of 10 people or more, I have heard it is nothing short of amazing, I can't wait to try it.
M. G.
Popped in there last night for dinner and a couple of beers with some mates. The beer was nice and cold and the food was fantastic!! Try the Tomahawk. The beans and corn as sides were also good. Most importantly the service was top notch. Will certainly be back.
D. W.
Impressed by Guillaume's obvious influence on the menu but disappointed when we arrived with a table of 6 at 6.15pm on a Sunday specifically to have the $28 Sunday roast advertised on the website and heavily promoted by 3rd parties to be informed (apologetically) it sold out at lunch. It turned out we knew a table of 8 next to us and they had booked for the same reason. Food was still very good but we left feeling a little sucked in by the marketing (as did our neighbours). The Sunday roast is a great idea on a winter weekend but if it would seem sensible to cater for potential demand and avoid the customer disappointment. The cost of ordering a la carte (meat mains and sides) would for us not make it a normal Sunday night casual dinner with friends choice. 4 stars for food, service and atmosphere, minus one star for not giving customers what they came for.
J. M.
Superb on-tap beer selection and wines by the glass. Friendly staff and delicious food. Thanks to the community of Paddington/Woollahra we saved the Four in Hand from redevelopment/destruction! What would Sutherland Street have been without it? One less pub in Paddo? Not on my watch!!
J. L.
Nice venue, good atmosphere, service was okay. The sunday roast could have been better.
It was tasty but pretty simple, they didn't have a choice or different roasts and no roast potatoes...
J. A.
Very accommodating if you don't have a booking. Staff and patrons friendly. Mussels very tasty.
a. c.
What a great Pub great menu fantastic Salmon and lots of other goodies ..very friendly staff..easy parking..
M. G.
Food is great, the rib eye with buttery mash and mushroom gravy is particularly scrummy! Atmosphere is lively, if you're going for dinner with a group definitely book a table.
C. R.
The counter lunches served here are fabulous. The staff and patrons are friendly. Well worth a visit.
L. H. B.
Lovely staff, great atmosphere and the new menu is definitely tasty! Portions are massive too so if you’re hungry and looking for a decently priced casual dining option this is the place to go.
K. L.
What can I say about Four in Hand! Probably the best pub food around in Sydney by far. Had the pork belly with apple and the flavours complimented each other so well. The atmosphere is also unpretentious and chilled. Would love to come here again if it wasn't so far away from me!
J. S.
Always a good place to watch the rugby, even better with that result even if it was a flash in the pan
P. L.
An iconic meeting spot in Paddington. The food is quite good. ( Trivia : David Bowie once lived in Sydney for 6 months and frequented Four n Hand for a beer by himself . He claimed nobody ever recognised who he was .) Sad news it was announced at April 2018 this pub is being sold and becoming residential.
C. S.
Really nice 'local' feel. Friendly staff and a good drinks selection, pleasant decor. Does have a bit of a sports bar feel which isn't for everyone (me included), but you can still have a comfortable chat in a group even at the central bar.
C. H.
One of our favourite pubs in this area! Very cosy "English style" pub serving good beer and great food!
S. R.
You know it's fancy when the toilet has a Dyson hand dryer lol
Came for lunch and the first thing I notice is the giant squid painting they have on the wall,a nice touch and the modern decor is also what stood out
Food wise ordered the pork belly entree
The wife was really impressed but while I liked it I found the pork skin to be salty
Mains I had the swordfish and the wife had the the lamp rump
She felt the swordfish tasted better though
I liked the broth that came with the swordfish and it goes well with the clams but I had didn't expect the purée to be spicy
The lamb rump, she felt there was too much fatty meat on it but isn't rump in general fatty? The beans/lentils that came with it was nice
Food took a while to come out
Service wise while staff was attentive but our mains took a while to come out
My wife loved it but I was expecting more
T. T.
Great experience dining here. Good service and the rump steak we cooked fantastically. The bbq full squid was very delicious and the saltram wines were Perfect
A. C.
We wished we were locals and could keep coming back! It happened to be trivia night the night we came by, we had a delicious dinner and a fun trivia experience. The vegetarian options are limited and I would not recommend it if you were that way inclined.
M. J.
Good pub grub. Decent recent upgrade. They're getting good beers on tap now, too. Winner winner, chicken Parma!
M. C.
Good proportioned roast dinner, with an impressive Yorkshire pudding, although the roast potatoes and lack of meat selection (only beef was available) were the only thing holding me back from giving 5 stars.
L. B.
Nice place...I appreciate that it still has the original pub feel. Unfortunately rather noisy to have a proper conversation. Can't really say much about the food as I only had Nachos.
G. S.
Good craft beer selection on tap. Food very good. On the slightly higher end rather than cheap bar food.
A. P.
Exceptional pub grub, great staff, great times. Couldn't ask more from a pub!
S. W.
Pretty good! Has a really nice ambience on a week night. Passionate local crowd. An authentic gem in the otherwise soulless pubscape of Sydney.
A. G.
I love it. the food is amazing
R. D.
Cosy pub with good food. Sports on the decent screens but without sound - except for the big events.Very attractive female bar staff... it's Paddington ;-)
E. M.
Lovely and cosy dining space. Gorgeous hearty food. Very attentive service. It's on a nice quiet street in Paddington. Really enjoyed it.
B. S.
We have been on a tour of Sydney's best Gastro pubs and this was the best to date. Arguably the most expensive, but would happily return as the food was just fantastic.
M. B.
The Four In Hand has a relaxed and casual atmosphere that is the epitome of a lazy local lunch in Paddington. Go on a Sunday for their Sunday roast special. They do a mean steak which is great value for just over $20.
If you want to really push the boat out, call ahead and they'll fix you up a whole pork belly that will feed 10 people!
After a big lunch the walk uphill on Elizabeth Street to get to the closest bus stop on Hargreave St might seem insurmountable but it's only one block away - you can do it!
If you are getting there by train take a stroll through Trumper park to Edgecliff tstation instead (though at night the park is not lit - fair warning!).
L. H.
Great service, beautifully cooked barramundi, loved the panacotta dessert, thanks for a great atmosphere and dining experience!
A. W.
Cosy corner pub in Paddington with a great menu on offer. Gets fairly busy when there are sporting events on up the road, so try and get there early to get a table.
L. 1.
Good pub grub and nice wine list. Always buzzing and hard to get a seat but worth the wait.
E. L.
The spit roast suckling pig with coleslaw and hot sauce was awesome!
The spring bay mussels were very fresh and a must have for all seafood lovers.
A. S.
Cute pub on the corner fo Sutherland Street in Paddo, They have great nightly specials so make sure you pop in if you're in the area. The pub food comesout of the Four in Hand restaurant so expect quality meals.
N. M.
Really nice ambience and service. Food was also well presented and tasted awesome. The only concern was limited option was vegans. Hope to go soon again ...
T. R.
Do yourself a favour and come on Wednesday’s for their burger and fries special. One of the best burgers!
G. C. C.
Went last night and totally loved it. Eat in the bar area and the food was a cut above anything else you will find at this price. Friendly staff and a very relaxed atmosphere.
H. B.
Great pub with awesome atmosphere, tasty food in large portions!
S. H.
The chefs there are incredible!
M. B.
What a gem of a pub. Great and fairly inexpensive lunches, great service and great atmosphere
J. B.
Great pub. One of few left in Paddington that still feels like it has a soul, until you find the pokies.
D. M.
I love this pub, loads of ales on tap, 1/3 bar staff need to get out of hospitality did not even verbally respond to customers just nodded.
A. N.
Recently redone, still has good food and drinks but there is something with the decoration that, in my opinion, took away the Pub's character and essence.
B. S. R.
Vanessa the chef, always makes happy and healthy food for us - THANK YOU
J. R.
Steak Tatare was excellent - Chicken Schnitzel was good but chips with it were WAY WAY TOO salty
D. F.
Always a classic boozer in Paddington. Good place to watch for sport as not as busy as others.
S. G.
Fond both of the pub and the restaurant. Loved the colcannon and all the different meat cuts offered. Pricey but worth.
C. A.
Best schnitzel in town.
N. M.
I was there with a great of blokes for a suckling pork feast. Coupled with a few beers, this was a real treat and exactly what you're looking for from a pub restaurant.
S. C.

N. B.
I had a minute steak there maybe 6 weeks ago. It really was the best I have had.
B. T.
Duck Head boney and really silly on menu. A bit pricey and too warm on a summer night, Excellent wait staff.
M. O.
Lovely setting ... food is fair to average.
