Comments of Grandma's Bar

Great cocktails. Kinda childish jaffles. Overall a cute place but they can certainly add some more stuff to the menu. Service was incredible.
S. L.
It isn’t advertised clearly outside so you look for the number of the venue. You go in and down the stairs. It’s a cosy little venue with limited seats. They’ve got some interesting cocktails and the service is great.
B. B.
Cozy nice place. Clean and smells fresh. Music is decent. Great place to have a chat with friends. Also great hospitality.
S. S.
Have been to Grandma’s bar a few times after work and it has been a great experience. Always a fun time. Love the warm and cosy atmosphere. Great service. Great list of cocktails. Love it.
L. S.
Great cozy and clean place with a nice atmosphere and music. Amazing cocktails. Definitely going back again :)
M. T.
Came for the jaffels and stayed for the great cocktails and amazing staff. Would definitely recommend! Thank you so much to Brandon for such great hospitality
A. R.
We come from a land far away, known for its’ quirk and cocktail culture, so finding Grandma’s made our freakin’ trip! The tongue-in-cheek name didn’t deter us, and their cocktails were totally incredible! We had the Mango Unchained, Pineapple Express, and the Tea’s Knees. The Mango Unchained is one of THE BEST tequila cocktails I’ve ever had. They were kind enough to give me the recipe, and I can’t wait to spoil my friends! It’s fun, hidden in a basement, and absolutely top notch. What are you waiting for?!? Go now!
L. T.
From the excellent service from Alex the bartender to the unbelievably good cocktails, your night would not be complete if you didn't go to Grandma's. A dimly lit cosy bar hidden away from sight there is nothing this bar doesn't have. The best cocktails in the city, amazing vibes and excellent service.
N. K.
A hidden gem of a bar in Sydney CBD that has wonderful cocktails in a cozy setting. The entrance is hidden so you gotta know where to find it. The moose head with miscellaneous woven things that adorn the entryway are a part of this wonderful bar’s quirky charm.
M. S.
Excellent below street level bar and a nice menu of cocktails.
R. K.
One of the best bars I've ever been to. Very comfortable, the staff was very friendly, the music was good, and the drinks were great. Highly recommend to anyone who likes going for some casual drinks.
R. H.
Good small hidden bar. Plenty drinks options. We ordered the beef jerky and it was awesome. Not too loud which is always a plus when going to a bar.
G. F.
Great place - do walk down those stairs even if you've had trouble finding the place and think ..... mmmm it looks dingy. It is super cool, smaller than I expected, but the staff were loads of fun and really great helping us find a spot to sit and stay a while - pretty soon more spaces became free. Awesome music, did I mention super cool staff - very friendly. Who doesn't love a jaffle and cocktail - great place to hang out or go to for a quick drink!
D. T.
Pretty cool place! The drinks were nice and the atmosphere was pretty chill :) however, wait was long and it took 20 minutes just to find the entrance! also their jaffles were sold out which was a bummer... All in all pretty good, left a bit more to be desired however :)
C. F.
Hidden but a great bar to visit try the Moscow mule!
M. M.
Relaxed, cool place to visit while in Sydney.
Friendly staff and awesome cocktails 🍸
Will visit again.
Peanut butter colada..really nice, glad I tried but one tiny suggestion, smooth peanut butter would make it perfect 😊
Pineapple express the most refreshing cocktail by a long shot 🍍
R. N.
Love the hidden entrance as the city seems to do this with their bars. More of the same here. You will miss it if you didn't know where it was. Don't hiccup!
This should be on any list if you are hopping in Sydney. Great selection of cocktails, good ambiance, prices comparable to other holes, and the music adds a vibe.
Plainly put, this is a great cocktail addition to the city and is a can't miss bar for those looking for the aforementioned. This can also be a one stop shop if you will as Grandma's gets it done.
Worth the hunting for the entrance!
S. L.
Came here a few times with mates and it has always been a memorable time. Cozy atmosphere with great choice of music. The bartenders are attentive and awesome at making the cocktails, I’d strongly recommend trying out the Mai Tai cocktail. Overall a great experience, will be back soon.
D. C.
Besides from the tight squeeze to use the restrooms I couldn't fault this place. Barstaff are friendly and assisted us with choosing the right cocktails. Very chilled place, good vibes, recommended as a place together start or end the night.
Great cocktails, recommended that you try the peanut butter colada or the Mai Tai.
G. L.
Grandma was fun. A small bar in the basement: clean, a number of different seating options, helpful staff, great cocktail list, Covid19 aware. You will never find the same light twice - fascinating and relevant furniture to suit the name of the bar. I hadn't been here before, it wasn't crowded but was always busy. I will go back.
D. J.
Wonderfully chilled atmosphere. The jaffles/toasties are to die for. Drinks on the slightly expensive side. Staff are super friendly and attentive.
L. L.
Really nice bar, I try the peanut butter colada, I was a bit worried but really good surprise I really like it!
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff.
A. A.
I have been coming to grandma's for ages and it's one of my favourite bars in the city. It's a basement bar with different seating areas and has some great spots for small groups or couples. Their cocktails are really nice and toastys are yum! A great place for a date or meet up with friends.
F. C.
Great little hidden gem in the city. Cocktails are excellent. I had a dirty martini and it was perfect. It's only a small bar so smaller groups probably better. Really fun find in the CBD.
J. S.
Haven't been here in a while. Really nice friendly staff! So happy this place is still going strong.
D. B.
Bar tenders very friendly, open to conversations on quiet nights, which is definitely great!
J. B.
Great cocktail bar with super friendly atmosphere.
m. p.
Great little basement bar that will remind you of Grandma's, provided your Grandma used to make boozy cocktails. Come for the warm, inviting atmosphere, stay for the Ultimate Mai Tai.
C. G.
One of the best small bars in Sydney. Delicious cocktails, including table service if it's not too busy and you get to knit there! What more do you want?!
An absolute must try cocktail is the peanut butter colada.
L. T.
Great bar to catch up with friends or for a date. The cocktails are interesting, in particular if you enjoy a peanut pina colada twist and variations of rum based drinks. There are also very nicely done jaffles which goes nicely with the drinks.
M. M.
Love this place. Been here when it's heaving and when it's empty (although that's rare) and always received the best service. Great chat from bar staff and they're so good at going off menu and making a fun drink for you.
J. S.
Was a cool place with a good code. One of the only places one can kick back, get cozy and accept hand delivered delights from food to drink and lots of love without feeling the favour need be returned. Granny may not live in Sydney's CBD, but there's a place you can venture that will spoil you just the same. The home you wished you had.
M. T.
Wonderfully cozy place with friendly staff and great cocktails. Table service makes for a pleasant and relaxed experience. Their olives taste great too.
A. C.
AMAZING BAR! Groovy music and friendly people, must try the peanut butter drink...! And the flaming MAI TAI
P. S.
As clich'ed as it sounds, this is a hidden gem of a bar, but once you've found it you'll be going back again. Amazing atmosphere, energetic, enthusiastic and engaging staff, and awesome cocktails. As Charlie Sheen says #winning
A. D.
I stumbled across this little Gem by accident. Very friendly and mostly do cocktails, but have a limited craft beer as well. 5:30pm and the place is jumping. It is small, but that just add that as atmosphere. I already love the place and looking for a place like this in Melbourne. They do Brevilled sandwiches. The chicken was very good. Friendly staff, greeted on arrival as is everyone. Good luck. I will certainly be back. Highly recommended.
j. m.
Awesome cocktails and great service. I like how quickly the drinks came out too. . friendly service as well.
Bartenders look like they really enjoy their job and serve up an honest and awesome beverage!
Will definitely be back in the future 👍👍👍
N. T.
The food was great, the atmosphere is quite rustic and authentic. But the flies flying around can be quite annoying
A. S.
One of Sydney’s first small bars, super relaxed with no pretensions. Best for smaller groups, definitely try the cocktails.
Y. G.
Cozy place to hang out with friends! We had great fun here.
T. M.
This is a cozy hipster bar right in the heart of Sydney's CBD. It can be a little tricky to find as it's downstairs. Once inside it's a small, intimate place decorated like an eccentric aunt's living room. I went fairly early, so it was almost unnervingly empty, but I get the impression it's not too crowded. The cocktails are inventive and not too boozy. If you're looking for a funky place for a nice cocktail in a generic retail district, this is your spot.
R. B.
What a terrific experience! Had 3 of the best cocktails I have ever had. Each bar tender took it upon themselves to create something special based on my direction. All were top notch. I had a business meeting there which worked exceptionally well as there was a great vibe but yet quiet enough to discuss business.
M. W.
I love this place. Pretty small and cozy so probably safer to go during the week when you can get a seat and enjoy the atmosphere. Friendly staff, very nice cocktails, and cute set up.
E. A.
So cute and cozy! I love the vibe in this little joint. They have a grandmas basement aesthetic, complete by walking down below street level. The cocktails were all great. The only issue was the service is very slow. There is also no room for bigger parties. It is a great place for a duo :).
E. M.
Pretty relaxed place for a drink. Small and intimate but easy to chat and a good cocktail list. We had a group of 8 and it was good. We arrived before 5 on a Thursday. Not sure you would get a seat for that many if you arrived later.
M. S.
Really great service and the cocktails here are delicious. I’ve previously been for a jaffle and more cocktails and it was great that time too. Very cosy space too.
S. S.
Cocktails are unique and delicious. I haven't been to a bar where the staff are so friendly and are more than happy to provide recommendations based on your personal tastes, and they'll even go out if their way to make sure that the cocktail will blow your mind. Awesome?
R. D.
Less busy, just as good as any Clarence street cocktail bar.
Intimate and informal. Always first choice.
T. B.
Great little bar with some very interesting cocktails. Fills up very quickly but worth the wait for a seat if you can bunker down for a couple of hours. One of the better options for drinks and nibbles in the CBD. A cocktail of note is the teas knees (I think that's what it was called). Truly delicious
J. S.
One of Sydney's smallest bars but it makes up for it with attitude, sexy bartenders and tasty drinks. Don't miss having a jaffle as well! Love the cinnamon smell upon entering and it only gets better from there.
G. H.
Love this place! Cute and cosy with delicious cocktails. Staff a super friendly - would definitely make their grandmas proud. Chicken jaffle is next level. 10/10 would recommend.
K. K.
Such a great cocktail bar! The staff are great and the drinks are fantastic. I love the decorations they put on the drinks, like the little plastic monkeys you got in Chinese restaurants as a kid. I want to go here more often. Looking forward to seeing their new venue.
G. G.
A very small, hidden bar with a great selection of cocktails that are freshly made by talented bar tenders. Excellent service from a lovely, bubbly and helpful waitress with blue hair (I think). Very hard to talk when it's full (which doesn't take much), but it cleared out by 7:30pm on a Friday when I was there.
A. D.
Great little hidden gem! Perfectly balanced cocktails, chill vibe, cool tunes... Love it all. Drinks largely focused on rum which is an awesome point of difference to nearly every other bar in Sydney seeming to focus on gin
W. D.
Been here a few times, their cocktails are good. Bartenders know their thing and give you undivided attention and recommendations, but only when they're not that busy. When it gets busy, good luck on getting a seat in this small bar, or getting any table service at all.
M. C.
Outstanding cocktails, a bit slow on service, incredible atmosphere. Definitely check this one out.
P. C.
The main reason this bar is awesome is you take a seat, you order drinks and they automatically start a tab. No hassles is exactly what grandma's bar is about.
This bar is in a basement with no real signs on the street which makes it even more appealing to me. It can be packed on your typical Friday night but earlier in the week, its a little calm safe haven from the bustling city.
The cocktail menu is defiantly worth a mention as it has a lot of variety and unexpected pleasures.
A. R.
Cute bar, nice staff, good atmosphere for a catch up with friends.
s.
great niche bar my favourite place for a small night out with mates great atmosphere great drinks. The jaffles are excellent bar food
F.
Such a great quirky bar. My friend and I were in Sydney for 3 nights and found ourselves at this bar 2 of the nights. They have a wide selection of cocktail, all of which sound delicious and were delicious. Staff are friendly and the setup/location is great. Would recommend!
I. G.
The cocktails we had were nothing special or wow, but the ambiance and friendly staff make up for it. Loved the music and Werther's originals!
J. L.
This place is really vibey and plays some funky music. It's a great place to go with a few friends, but it's quite small so don't bring a big group. They do a bunch of really interesting cocktails of their own invention and also serve a few boutique beers. The one downside is that they don't have a lot to eat - although they do offer light snacks. A great place to either start or end a night!
P. G.
Nice ambience but a little cramped, no space to swing a cat. This bar is located in a basement and after you go down the stairs it seems a little maze-like. The staff are friendly but the drinks and food menu is a bit limited. Jaffles were the specialty the night I visited but not a lot of other snacks. If you like cosy and bohemian this is your kind of place, otherwise look somewhere else.
M. M.
This quaint and quirky bar is hidden beneath the hustle and bustle of Sydney. It's antique and cosy furnishings takes you back to Sunday evenings at your grandparents house. The staff are incredible with great suggestions of drinks based on your tastes and mood. Prices are quite steep but worth it for the most amazing cocktails. Can get packed so you might need to wait but it is definitely worth it!
P. K.
Love taking customers and friends here, the entry is ‘up’ towards some letter boxes. Look under the street level to find the bar, enter on the left.
J. G.
A little gem of a small bar, specialising in Caribbean rum and toasted jaffles! Kitsch decor, good music, and a lively vibe. Great for after-work drinks. I’ve been coming here for 8 years or so.
E. O. B.
All the drinks are fantastic, original and unique. Classic music on all the time along with attentive and friendly staff, service is fantastic.
Unique and stylish decor that gives the place a unique sense of personality.
I love this place!
A. W.
Great - if you can find it!
A real hidden cocktail bar with heaps of character and great cocktails. It's near QVB and town hall station so great for an after-work drink.
Bar staff are always friendly (but busy - the bar area is small). Get in early as there's not a lot of room and the few seating areas are snapped up quickly. There are a few snacks on the menu but nothing substantial so don't go there for food.
If you're a G&T drinker there's a great selection of gin :)
D. D.
Cocktails inspired from around the world and hectic Jaffles! Wonderful service!
N. R.
The peanut butter colada was fantastic, music was a little loud. Nice and cozy place for catching up with friends.
M. M.
Loved this place last time I was in Sydney almost a year ago so decided to bring my partner here and have some cocktails. Vibe, amazing. Drinks, amazing. The waiter that served me? rude. He asked in a very sarcastic way what I wanted to order just hideous manner for working in a bar. He was cocky and rude and never apologised. It was a guy with beard and a bit bigger built than the other bartenders that night (14/08/15) Just lighten up, even when it gets busy no point in paying it out on the customer. I would have given 5 star otherwise but uncertain I'll come back
B. M.
Great little small bar, that I'd definitely recommend checking it out. It's quirky, small (of course) and the bar staff were friendly and helpful. I'd imagine it being a little bit annoying if it was full, so would suggest hitting Grandma's up earlier in the evening to avoid disappointment. Highly recommend the peppery home made ginger beer.
o. d.
Nice place, extreamly friendly staff but extreamly overpriced. 4 drinks was close to $90. Cool little cocktail bar but not good value for money.
3 star because it is a cool little hidden underground gem.
L. D.
Always a choice location for a few drinks to either start the night or end it. Music is a great selection of classic hits from the last 20 years, bar tenders are super friendly and helpful with drink selection, drinks are amazing and the overall vibe is great!
D. N.
One of the few more specialized cocktail bars in Sydney, Grandma's has an excellent selection of rum cocktails (probably the best in town), in addition to the usual cocktail selections. The standard of drinks is consistently high here. Generally speaking, I have never had a problem getting in here, but that's most likely because they let the bar get incredibly crowded. I've spent more than my fair share of time cramped up against the air conditioner outside, due to lack of space. Summary: come for the drinks, but be ready to sacrifice your personal space.
D. G.
Cool atmosphere, random beer selections available, not for me...
K. S.
Grandma's is hands down my favourite bar in Sydney. The drinks are fantastic, the staff are super nice, and the decor is cozy and intimate. And the jaffles! The roast chicken jaffles <3
f.
Cosy bar with great spread of cocktails. 10/10 service too. Looking forward to coming again!
C. K.
Grandma’s Bar is a great place to meet up with friends after work. The staff are friendly and happy to make a recommendation based on your tastes and preferences. I’d recommend the Mai Tai (it comes served alight!) and Knickerbocker.
The location is a bit hidden but this makes it a little underground gem!
N. R.
Best cocktails in Sydney, love the quirky vibes as well. The bar is a bit small but I have always had great experiences there.
W. P.
Fabulous atmosphere and great bartending. I am so glad I found this hidden gem.
M. J.
Love the atmosphere here - plus a great cocktail menu. Accommodates well for small groups.
C. K.
Cool vibe, great cocktails and a killer playlist! Was nice to hear the bar staff singing along. Will definitely be back 😃
C. W.
A great little bar. The staff are funny and fun, and interested in having a chat when the place isn't too busy, which is exactly the atmosphere a quirky small bar should aim for. There's a bowl of knitting on one of the tables, and it's not frowned upon to pick it up and add a few lines. Grandma's is small, and gets busy, so get there early if you want a seat.
D.
Quaint little Bar that smells like cookies or apple Crumble. Drinks were great and service was good too. Not a huge space so get there early but overall was really good
G. S. G.
I love this place, perfect to have a couple of cocktails with your friends. Wide and original menu to select, very friendly staff. The hidden place it's quite small but cosy.
A. T.
Really small and adorable little place. The drinks were expensive but the staff were super lovely and I had a nice evening there.
I can imagine it gets really busy into the night because it's so small and quite popular.
Nice for a drink after work.
There arent many seats but they're weird and low so it was hard to socialise.
Really well set up though and quite quaint I thought.
R. S. W.
The moment we walked down the stairs, we were greeted by a friendly barman who made us feel at home. Its an interesting quaint basement bar with amazing staff and selection of cocktails )
A. M.
Great small rum cocktail bar. Not as claustrophobic as many of the other small bars, at least there are windows! There will be a bit of a wait and potential struggle to get seats of they're busy though.
V. R.
When asked what makes Grandma's special they reply was.... The service is a special as being at Grandma's house. After spending time in the bar i have to agree. Staff greeted us warmly and served us within moments of entering the venue.
The atmosphere was a mix of 1800s meet 1970s retro. Art had a Caribbean African feel. Furniture is old but creates a warm feel. The venue is old but clean. Low lit which creates an intimate vibe. Venue holds 50 people.
The drinks were expertly mixed, flavoursom and have a fresh difference. We didn't try anything from the food menu but about 6 nibbly dishes were on offer.
Even though i didn't stay long it was a great way to unwind on the way to my next gig. Best of all it opens at 3pm!
b. w.
Easily my favourite small bar in the city. The drinks are easily some of the best and I've had pretty much most of their drinks. If ure in the area, jump in - their flaming mojito/drink in a tiki thing is outstanding. Well worth the premium for the spectacle and its really 2x drinks. Great friendly crew and lovely retro sexual vibe
M. V.
The moment we walked down the stairs, we were greeted by a super friendly barman who made us feel at home.
Once seated, a different fella asked what we were having. I was after the 'espress yourself' which he told me they didn't have anymore, but he'd make it anyway. Best.
This was a pretty tasty drink, but completely overshadowed by my next drink.
The peanut butter colada.
God. Dayum.
This drink. Just go get it. It shouldn't work, but it does and will stop you in your tracks.
Get it up ya.
Go visit Grandma. She misses you.
R. C.
Great cocktails, nice service. Small cosy place. Music is varied and not too loud. Nice ambiance for a Wednesday night.
T. P.
Tiny cute bar with excellent cocktails and bar tenders who really know their stuff. It's a cosy place with comfy furnishings that make you feel right at home. The bar snacks here are great too, what's not to love about jaffles and beef jerky?
T. S.
Quirky hidden bar with heaps of character, perfect for a catchup drink or four. The bartenders are warm and welcoming like your grandma.
Try the pina colada & ultimate mai tai 🤘
M. H.
One of the best bar atmospheres. Although a classic, I loved the espresso martinis here. You'll almost definitely meet new people because of the small space.
j. a. d.
My favourite small bar in Sydney. The vibe is always great, the staff are super friendly, the cocktails are nice and the playlist is Chilled and has enough old 90s hits to keep you singing along!
O. M.
Small friendly place. Kitchy as ordered. Lots of flair in the cocktail prep. Jerky or nuts in cups, toastie options. Would grandma approve?!? Definitely if she’s a sherry lover.
E. G.
Great small bar, with friendly staff that makes you feel welcome right away. Cocktails are creative and well executed. That's my place to go in the city.
S. K.
Great quaint bar with some interesting cocktails. Pretty slammin on a Friday night, packed but didn't wait too long at the bar. Good vibe! The bartender did accidentally sploosh a mix/peanut butter on my shirt (no bigs, wiped off pretty easily) and without a word he kindly comp'd, on him. So, great customer service, the woman on the floor when we left was super friendly as well. Thanks Grandma's Bar, will be back when we're in the city again :)
T. S.
Slightly over hyped small bar. Yes it is a nice little bar, but I feel like I am drinking in someone's garage or spare room. Grandma tries just a little too hard. The folks behind the bar were nice and friendly enough to help us with directions to our next small bar.
N. T.
A little hard to find, but definitely worth the trip, nice and cozy inside, great staff and interesting cocktails.
EDIT: Upgraded to five stars, because I'm feeling generous, I got a response from the owner, and because I'm procrastinating.
A. B.
Some people like dank small bars with no brand beers. I didn't.. we got asked to share our stool with other people when it got busy, and busy means more than 5 people at the bar. Would be fun when quiet.
B. S.
Great little bar but disappointing cocktails. The amount of alcohol seemed very little in all 4 cocktails. We only had one drink and left.
M. M. G.
Cute little place in the CBD, the drinks are expensive but the guys behind the bar are fast and really nice.
It's quite small and cramped but I think that adds to the vibe. It's really hard to find, but go with someone who has been before.
Would be nice for drinks after work if you live in the area.
H. D. H.
5 stars because we had good service. Although honestly I wasn't mad about the cocktail list. Would probably go back.
H. L.
Cozy hidden bar with unique spins on everyday drinks. Had the Peanut Butter Pina Colada and the flaming Mai Tai. Peanut Butter Pina Colada was a great spin on the original and was good enough to come get again. Bar is quite small though, so would not recommend for larger groups.
L. M.
Fun, quirky little joint but the standard of hygiene leaves much to be desired! Sticky benches and I literally had a cockroach crawl across my arm when I was sitting in the corner near the toilets. Eek 😬
T. N.
It's very small and poky. A great alternative place to have a drink and try their selections of beer. They also have food. The jaffa sandwiches are delicious, especially if you don't want to drink on an empty stomach.
A. H.
Grandma's has got that down to earth, feel good atmosphere you will have to look a long time for in Sydney. Music is good, drinks are even better and staff is amazing. If you don't stop by here you're missing out.
H.
I wish I took photos of the place! Such a great cocktail joint!! If you're in Sydney you need to check this place out. It was quite difficult to find tho. No obvious store front.
Y. M.
Really cool bar cute interior, very good reggae music and friendly staff
T. K.
So laid back for how close it is to the QVB. It feels like a group of friends got together and just decided to run a bar - but in a good way. The crowd is usually fun and easy to make new friends with. Management don't mind if you stay there for ages!
If you join their 'Grandmas club' you can get a free jaffle with your visit.
K. O.
Small cozy place with various seating options from bar, standing to couch. The menu is kept simple in a rum theme throughout and sandwich for snacks. despite being in the b1, full of fresh air thanks to backdoor and streetside window allowing for a fresh breeze. Bustling with people
S. C.
I love Grandma's. The interior is more nan's living room, than Aladdin's Cave but where else can you go enjoy your tipple in a rocking chair, set your drink next to knitting needles and drink cocktails out of tiki statues? As if all that wasn't enough, the staff are welcoming, friendly and the whole place is cute as a button.
A. D.
I was suggested to try the ultimate mai thai. I found the staff were friendly and like most small bars you get table service.
I had no idea what to do with the cocktail when it got brought out to the table. Lucky I had a friend who knew what to do with this flaming marvel of a cocktail.
We sat by the window watching people walk past and go about their boring, cocktailess lives.
I also liked all of the dated yet provocative art that they have on display for your eye to peruse.
E. H.
A fantastic hidden gem that's always on my list for a night out, whether it's a place to start, a mid stop or a place to end the night for one last cheeky drink before heading home. Always recommend visiting grandmas for tasty drinks and a unique drinking experience
K. R.
Very discrete location for this bar but once you've discovered it, you have to go again!!!! Cocktails are DELICIOUS!! Tiny space so go early especially on friday night! Very nice staff too!
S. R.
Awesome selection of cocktails and the staff were amazingly fun and friendly.
The cocktail selection had a range of different/unique cocktails that were all (the ones we tried) delicious.
L. R.
Lovely hidden bar in the CBD. It's really tiny so if you go here on a Friday night it'll be packed, but the staff are super cool, the decor is really cosy and the drink selection is great. One of my favourites.
D. F.
Great underground cosy bar with terrific cocktail selection. A little bit limited in beer selection however the beer available is impressive. Great place to chill out after a long day.
T. H.
Grandma's is one of THE Go To's on our list of usual haunts. The staff are nothing short of fantastic and Luis always manages to makes us feel very welcome! The Peanut Butter Colada is amazing (but nothing beats beats a good ol' Hendricks + H2O ;))! Luis & Lachlan, you guys are awesome!
M.
Nice range of drinks with standard prices. Service was good, went both Saturday night and Tuesday afternoon and it was good atmosphere both times. Busy but not uncomfortable.
C. W.
Managed to snag the last free table on a quiet Saturday night in the CBD. Friendly and knowledgable staff, massive cocktail selection and a cool crowd. Highly recommended if you happen to find yourself city centre and wanting a change from the normal boring bars.
k.
Cute little underground bar with doilies and knitting, flower wall paper and big arm chairs. Great cocktails and the staff are super friendly.
C. B.
The original, and probably the best, small bar in Sydney CBD.
The staff are always amazing, and the drinks are very, very good! The ultimate Mai Tai is a flaming Tiki marvel, but classics like the mojito and Old Fashioned still shine.
The space is quirky, and getting a seat might be a challenge, but it's no deterrent.
There's something oddly captivating about watching people's feet stroll past the window oblivious to your existence... Something that makes my cocktail more special.
T. S.
In a strange location under a music shop. But atmosphere is definitely amazing. Cocktails are also really good there. I love the seats there, and really chilled atmosphere.
J. S.
Awesome bar, some really amazing cocktails and the staff (Brandon and all the guys) are bloody fantastic... we will be back next time in Sydney
L. D.
My friend Tracy took me here for a drink and I totally understand why it's her favourite bar. Like all funky bars, the only way of knowing it's there is a line of people waiting at a random door. Down some windy steps it leads you to a bar that looks like, as the name suggests, a grandma's bar. The decor is floral and theres a rocking chair and old granny furniture lol Don't get me wrong, its not a retirement home lol This place is yummy cocktails that will get you tanked lol If you need some food to soak up the alcohol they serve granny food like cheese jaffles. Bloody awesome!
M. H.
Intimate place with great music, fantastic cocktails, and very friendly, efficient bar staff
M. A.
Very cosy place and the cocktails where amazing and very friendly staff
B. S.
Favorite speak-easy bar in Sydney. It has the best mood and vibe, and their cocktails are pretty amazing.
K. T. W.
Quirky little bar. Nice decor. Friendly staff. $34 for 2 cocktails. A little hard to find but just go down the stairs at number 275 ☺
K. F.
Funky bar with great cocktail options.
Seems to have limited wine and beer options.
If you like small bars .. visit Grandmas
T. J.
A great selection of cocktails. Just be prepared to be slightly cramped if you're a bigger person! Otherwise definitely worth checking out.
A. S.
Small and hard to find entrance. But cool little downstairs bar. Friendly bar staff, table service, split bills and great cocktails
N. C.
Very groovy and quaint spot, felt like a hidden off the beaten track place.
Lovely wine and snacks!
Cool spot to take friends visiting Sydney, an alternative to the usual pub.
G. M.
A great little bar. Fabulous cocktails, friendly staff and very COVIDSAFE
l. b.
One of the things i love about this bar is it's secret location. Yep, that's right...Good luck finding this bar but when you do ask for the peanut butter colada!! Bar staff are knowledgeable and the atmosphere is warm, cosy and quaint.
L. M.
This is the cutest little hole in the wall you'll ever seen. And its tiny but full of character and charm. One minute you are in your grandmothers living room enjoying a martini the next you're in the pacific sipping a drink out of a giant flaming head!
H. R.
A small, underground bar. On the pricey side but the cocktails are delicious. Not much option if you're wanting beer however.
It's difficult to find but worth a trip
N. C.
Fun little cocktail bar, great for small groups or couples. The Made Man is my favourite cocktail on the menu, definitely worth a try
S. G.
I just discovered this great little place. Their drinks are amazing and the jaffles and full of flavour and very filling. I am definately coming back
A. C.
Great range of great cocktails, especially rum ones. Walk up off the street then down into a den of fun. Biltong for snacks is a nice touch
L. B.
This hidden gem is just amazing! Delicious cocktails, great vibe, super friendly staff and guru in what they are doing. Highly recommended! ;)
J. H.
Well hidden, this small bar is cozy and dark. Cocktails are creative and delicious. Jaffles ftw!Can get very noisy and cramped with the weekend crowd.
S. R.
Always a delight
S. M.
This bar is the real deal. The tunes somehow perfectly match the rumtastic boozey cocktails.Grandma's is my new favorite haunt in Sydney. Thanks Honey and gang!
N. I.
Grandmas has been open for a while now, but Grandmas is SO good, I have FINALLY gotten around to writing about it! My problem being that I spend all my spare time there!
Grandma's Bar, much like my beloved Grand Parents homes, is exactly that. A home, a place that eases you out of that crappy day you've just had at the office, or on the road, and in seconds, you are relaxed and chilled.
A place where all the regulars know each other, and the staff know you by name, and will have your regular drink on it's way the second you walk in the door. Choosing a favorite drink is probably the single most difficult thing to accomplish here though - the cocktail list is quite extensive, and packed with top quality concoctions that will have you all umming and ahhhing about who's got the best drink! From Exotic Tiki drinks like the Brazilian Batidas & their flaming Ultimate Mai Tai, to classics such as the skillfully made Negroni's and Hemingway Daiquiri's - it's a tough choice, that will keep you coming back for more!
Grandma's also has the widest, and best Rum selection I have seen in Sydney. Rum has long been over-looked here in Australia, but it is fast attracting a great following. Rums from the obvious cornerstones of the Industry, Cuba, Jamaica and Barbados adorn the back bar, but it's Rums from Venezuela and Guatemala that really catch the eye, and more importantly, the taste buds.
The GrandKids (bar staff) are truly amazing in their knowledge and skills with this sumptuous dark spirit, and are only too willing to help you get your teeth into it! YUM!
Finally, but not forgotten is the service. From the minute you enter, to the the last second you're there, James, Warren and the other GrandKids, will sweep you off your feet with a level of service I have not seen anywhere else in Sydney. You will be amazed - Get down There now Sydney!
**EDIT - Recent recipient of Time Out Sydney's Best Small Bar 2011-12.
J. G.
This is not the place to have your ordinary cocktail, which makes it a great venue. Makes me want to go back and try all the other stuff on the menu.
A.
This place is sick. Really friendly staff. Great vibe. They have these awesome jaffles which are super tatsy and humble and a must have. Will be back soon xo
p. p.
Amazing cocktails and toasties. Nice place to chill with friends for a quick bite and drink!
H. M.
Cool crowd and array of cocktails is great something for everyone - some staff a bit abrupt but gets busy and is limited seating if you are there for a big group.
S. A.
Very good cocktail quality.highly recommended place to spend an evening with friends!
V. N.
Great little place for a drink and a quick bite if you're hungry. The staff are always awesome and happy to chat but not too much, which is great!
Q. N.
Small little rum cocktail bar. Great quality and service. Gets packed fast so go early!
S. M.
Jaffles and booze. What's not to love? This little basement corridor on Clarence is a nice spot for a drink after work, before heading out for dinner elsewhere.
A. H.
Awesome little bar. It felt very warm and cosy. The drinks were great and the service was even greater!
B. P.
My favorite bar in Sydney. Super friendly staff, great choice of rums. Fantastic atmosphere. Can't recommend this enough.

J. C.
Atmospheric, good drinks, excellent service.
C. B.
Great little underground bar with great whiskys, hand picked beers, and a selection of amazing cocktails. Worth a look if you can find it.
K. T.
Very narrow bar so it feels a little intimate and a little awkward when trying to find a seat. Nice and quirky though, definitely worth visiting
J. A.
Great bar service, great crowd and great ambience. Vert comfy atmosphere also have snacks available if you get want something to eat with our drinks.
C. X.
Friendly bartenders, and amazing drinks! It's very busy on Fridays and Saturdays, so if you want a seat, you might want to try some other night!
F. S.
Amazing cocktails. Lovely, intimate bar. Max fits 50 ppl so get there early. :)
B.
Good friendly service and relaxed staff. Nice prices and different cocktails.
A. D. (.
The last stop on the city expert first bar crawl and was great last stop the final drink of the night was the ultimate mai tai which was served in a flaming tiki statue. What more could you want from your final drink of the night? The bar was very small but had a cosy atmosphere a great place to chill out at and enjoy a drink after work or to have as a stop on a bar crawl around the city of sydney.
S. F.
Tiny secret bar in the city. The drinks were really nice and the service was on point. Sadly the location is very small with only a slim chance of getting a table.
S. J.
Best cocktails in Sydney, combined with a Tropical ambience, this place couldn't get any better. Also, do not miss the Jaffles here.
B. T.
Another hidden bar that serves fashionable cocktails. Small place so get in early. Friendly staff.
T. W.
With small bars popping up all over Sydney, Grandma's remains one of my favourites. Once inside you'll be greeted by a massive deer head mounted on the wall, followed by vintage pictures hanging above mismatching retro furniture dotted around the place. There is even a rocking chair, just like the one you'd expect to find inside your grandma's house. Whether you stumbled upon Grandma's by chance or made it your mission to find it, this is one place you'll want to keep on coming back to. You won't find a more friendly bunch than James and Warren and all the grandkids behind the bar, and you'll get spoiled rotten each and every time you visit.
H. S. B.
Nice hidden gem. Calm, classy crowd and good drinks. This place if a good place to be and enjoy the drink.
G. G.
Nice and cosy placw with good cocktails. 4 to 6 people max company can properly fit in. More than that might be a little bit difficult.
N. B.
Great drinks. Very small, even by small bar standards. Servers and bar tenders polite and friendly even during evening rush.
T. L.
Bartenders were amazing and could suggest some pretty incredible drinks! Absolutely love it here!
N. L.
Grandma must have had a mean thirst. Great for cocktails, service is good but can get overwhelmed by too many people prices are reasonable.
C. L.

J. N.

C. M.
A little hole-in-the-wall type of bar that does excellent cocktails, with amazing bartenders and on the weekends, you can catch the 'Grandma' knitting to welcome you to the bar!
E. B.
The unbridled cockatoo wall paper sets the tone for what to expect inside—a boho basement filled and a menagerie of loud-shirt-wearing bar guys, a tight drinks menu and toilets that have taken small space architecture very seriously.
A. Z.
The atmosphere is great as are the cocktails but the best thing is the toasties.
E. B.
Cool, underground vibes. The cocktails are yum, if a little pricey. The toasties are a highlight.
F. K.
These guys make an exceptional dark and stormy. They're friendly, as well. Just don't expect a seat, they're pretty small and get packed basically instantly
P. M.
Never know a pub to mix up their selection of beer as often as these guys. Don't be put off by level one head straight to the rooftop
L. T.
