First I have to say I’m giving 3 stars thanks to the service, otherwise it will be a 2 . The staff is nice and friendly. However, the food it’s quite average, the prices do not match the quality of the food. I went on a Friday night, we ordered two sirloin steaks, and the meat was hard and tasteless. The sauce had an old taste. The fries were doubled fried and oily. We visit different pubs on a weekly basis and we had better meals for half of the price. I will recommend it for drinks, but definitely not for food.

Good quality pub food and the mains are quite large. The Nelson is good for groups of around 10 to 12 people at the big tables. Sometimes when it is crowded it can become very noisy making it difficult to hear any conversations, however weigh that up with the quality of the food and you can understand why we keep going back.

Very good pub meal. A bit overpriced, but aren't they all these days. $28 for a pasta dish is not cheap. Nevertheless, the portions are a good size. You don't leave feeling like you want to stop somewhere to pick up a takeaway on the way home because you're still hungry.

I love this pub. A beautiful example of a Sydney Art Deco hotel in almost original condition, apart from the beer garden added at the back. Sure the tiles around the base of the main bar may be chipped, that just adds to the charm. Staff are all lovely and it is dog friendly 🐕 Big ups! Very good selection of tap beers, lines are cleaned regularly, always fresh. Good for sports on the big screens. Bistro at the back is a gem for lunch, large selection of $18 specials which are delicious. Schnitty burger is outstanding, mate had the veggie burger and said it is one of the best he's had 👍🍔

The perfect pub, would love to see upstairs one day, curious about whether it's a bit of a time capsule or not. Here yet again, it is indeed my favourite. Bistro is very good and comfortable, the bars are fantastic too :) brought my wife and 9month old recently, no dramas whatsoever (bistro only).

My first time in Australia. Love the hotel pub culture and found many I enjoyed. But the Nelson seemed to really do a great job modernizing and keeping a lot of the original feel. It's a truly beautiful pub and the enclosed smoking beer garden was most welcome. Can't wait to visit again. And next time I'll bring the wife!

Came here with my son’s family to meet friends for dinner. The kids went off to the play area and were kept amused there, playing with toys and with many other kids who were here. The adults were able to sit and chat in the restaurant area, and choose from a good selection of beers and other drinks. And also choose from the quite extensive range of food options, from light snacks to full meals. When my dinner came, it was a well cooked piece of fish, with good hot chips, and a good serve of salad. Quite enjoyable. It was obvious that the hotel had a lot of locals, including a number of family groups who seemed to be regular Friday night visitors. That indicated to me that it is a friendly local pub well-used by local people. Well worth a visit!

Came for dinner on a Friday night in the bistro. Typical pub food, generous portions and served with hot chips. The steaks and burgers are good, can't go wrong with those. Kids menu options available as well. Service is friendly and efficient. Will come back again.

Very noisy, the place was bustling. The food l had left a great deal to be admired the Pulled Pork Hamburger was very stringy; there was more grated cabbage than Pork the top of the bun was great after I folded it and filled it with chips. I was surprised at the number of children running through and around the bar. But with the help of the friends we were with we had a reasonable night, but will not be repeating it any time soon.

Had to find a place to get away from the rain,so I just walked in. At first it seem like the regular hole in the wall bar, but then I saw the patio. It's a nice patio, smoking allowed (not my thing, but for those that smoke) then saw that on the other side was a restaurant. I didn't stay long enough to order food, just had my beer and went on my merry way. The bartender seem nice, but it was hard to hear her, the front bar is a bit loud. And believe it or not it is kid friendly too! ( Not so much the front bar but the back bar and the restaurant area)

Pub is quite amazing in that it has never been renovated which is great. It has all the features it would have had 100 years ago. I chose badly RE FOOD, steak sandwich was ordinary but I didn't ready the menu properly and it was as described. Will be back for a cold beer at the bar.

lesser known bar in my opinion, but after the renovations, it is well worth a visit. One of the few bars with darts and pinball machines, as well as a pool table. Beer garden has a modest sized screen for sports events as well, with a fireplace communal feel. Good prices for drinks too

Booked tables here for after the city to surf - so many other venues in Bondi and Bondi Junction didn't take bookings (walk ins only) but The Nelson provided 2 long tables in a spacious room. Plenty of good drinks and room to move and the food was delicious. Staff were all friendly and service was excellent. Would definitely visit again!

The Nelson is iconic - its one of the first pubs built here! Its maintained in its original bar form giving the place a certain workers class charm. There certainly local workers that drink at this waterhole! A great atmosphere for those that like a beer and a bet. Nice beer garden for the smokers too.

The Science Party had its Wentworth by-election after party here, and the staff were nice enough to switch the TV onto the ABC so we could watch the count 😂 Loved that the place wasn't crowded, good food and beers. Management was really helpful with the booking. Bit weird that I walked past three men's toilets to find a women's. Going there involved being rained on, as the door was via the open-air beer garden.

Best pub in Sydney. Time tested with classic art deco tiling and large feature oval bar. Secondary bar better suited for families and children. Happy hours from 4-6pm sees a large local patronage, but otherwise generally quiet. If you like local pubs without pretention this is your place.

This is one of my favourite classic pubs in Sydney. Plenty of different areas, live music on Sunday arvos and an excellent food menu. Go for a drink or dinner, you won't be disappointed.

A great old pub a step back in time! Full of sentimentality and nostalgia with friendly bar staff. Predominantly a male environment with no PC overtones. Try a punt or your luck on the pokies devour a hearty schnitzel or just enjoy the ambience whilst having a few liquid ambers off the wood. Lets hope The Nelson is around for another 80 years and doesn't end up in the hands of developers.

I really want to love the Nelo... it's easily the best pub in Bondi Junction but there are just a couple of niggles that take away from the place. First up the positives: 1) cool old-style art deco inside 2) good craft beer selection on tap 3) nice area to sit and eat out the back 4) sport shown on tv Niggles: 1) Fee charged on all card purchases 2) No sign to advise of said fee 3) In spite of them charging a card fee, they still insist on a $10 minimum spend on card spend - presumably to force you to use the fee-charging ATM by the bar, or to buy 2 drinks at a time 4) Staff can be a bit hit and miss Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad pub and I'll still drink there, but it's a shame that with just a few small changes it could be a great pub!
