Great range of craft beers and the house hazy was outstanding. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the overall vibe is excellent, with indoor, semi- outdoor and street seating. My only area for improvement was the food, which was adequate bit not overly impressive for the price. Recommend? Hell yeah, but more for the craft beer than the food.

The Royal Haze IPA was really yummy - & that's comparing with many others I have had so far! Also had food menu which I didn't try - next time! Nice place to drink. Friendly bar staff with a very good selection of beer. I tried the collaboration hazy IPA they did with Beerfarm. Absolutely amazing. Wish I could have stayed longer but I'll definitely be back to try out their selection of IPA, Sours and Goses. There is a beer for everyone here.

Straight up best burger I've had in years. Royale with cheese change to fried onions, add bacon. Washed it down with the delicious heavy malt chocolate porter on hand pump. The lineup of speciality dark beers had me come back a few days later to get through them all!

The Royal Albert offer a great selection of local and other Australian craft beers. What deserves the most merit is the great selection of food and vegetarians and vegans don't have to go hungry either! Their vegan pie is a must - swap out gravy on the fries for their house curry sauce. They've even got a small selection of dumplings and Asian inspired dishes. Beware of youre there on a busy day because service gets really, really slow. The two cheese and biscuits (deli plate?) my colleagues ordered came out after everyone else's mains came out. When they did, there was a block of mouldy cheese... So evidently they were rushing orders out the service window.

I can't say anything about the hotel. We went to the restaurant/bar and it was just wonderful for a chilled evening under the week. They have a huge selection of craft beer and a lot of different snacks. If you go there try to get a table on the winter garden to enjoy the good weather. I can definitely recommend this place.

Lovely ambience, peaceful with rustling trees, people walking their dogs. We ordered a couple of stouts and ales and all of them were delicious! Their fries are nice, love the jalapeño and mustard sauce they served with them. It was neither too busy nor loud and we were able to chat and hear each other whilst enjoying our beers! If you like good beer, and I do, then this is one of best pubs in Sydney. It's a locals' out of the way honest pub with amazing beer rotation including a couple on hand pump. Food is also great with a mix of decent burgers, good Asian and the most delicious 'Broomfield's pies'. Sorry, no Tooheys or Coopers.

This is such a great local. Good food, different zones so that you can always find somewhere nice to sit. Friendly, welcoming staff, great pub style food, a varied selection of beer on tap and other drinks on offer obviously.

A great little pub that supports independent brewer's, petite and inviting they have a space heater in the winter in a no frills charming way to keep the place cosy. There's a great selection on tap and the bartenders are chilled and knowledgeable. The menu is very Greasy Spoon but is varied-from fish and chips, to burgers, to dumplings, to yum cha to curry- but don't expect a salad or wood fired pizza; but unlike other pubs they have crisps and don't make you pay for overpriced entre's if you're peckish. They have a tv in the corner with sports which I like but the volume is off so it isn't intrusive. The place does have pokies but they're not noisy and are hidden, and if it means the place can tick over then so be it. Have been going here on and off for seven years as I've moved in and out of Sydney for work and the place never changes, still happily occupied by locals and always a great ration of quality beers. Good with friends or on your own.

Best place to pop-over after hanging with your dog up at Harmony Park. They have a killer brew menu—lots of IPAs—the hazies! The outdoor tables are solid since we always have our dog with us, and the crew are so nice—they’ll bring her a bowl of water whenever they notice us. And if it’s not busy, they’re cool about pouring out a splash of different brews before committing to the one you like the most. Oh, and the royale with cheese is one tasty burger! 😋

Fabulous to have a place in a relatively buzzing neighbourhood of Sydney that regularly serves hand-pumped cask ale. Most of the time this includes one beer which is an appropriate strength and doesn't get you blottoed after one pint (11% porter we're looking at you). This pub must be one of the best in Sydney! It is hidden away from the main sections of the city, meaning it isn't too crowded. What it lacks in clientele, it makes up for in quality of beer, and food. The selection of beers is always changing, and they often have some amazing craft beers with very distinctive tastes. With so many to choose from, I always find myself asking the bartender for their recommendation! the food here is also very good - they have specials each night of the week, with Thursday night being a mixed plate of dumplings. They were particularly nice when I was there - although I am sure the other specials on other nights are just as awesome haha. This is an EXCELLENT pub, with a nice feel-good vibe, and a great selection of drinks. 5 Starts definitely!

Attended this pub as part of a friend's bucks party. It's one of the many pubs around the Surry Hills area and was a great meet up point for the start of the night. There's many tables and seats available and accommodated the 20 or so people in our group easily. Food was great - we shared a few of the options on the menu with the group. Overall a great place to have a drink, have something to eat and meet up with friends in a relaxed atmosphere.

Who knew this place was here? Certainly qualifies as a hidden gem - one of the best ranges of craft beer in the city and a laid back atmosphere. Also a good selection of cider, wine and cocktails. Bar and serving staff were friendly. Food was pretty good, but falling short of great. Mostly a selection of Asian food, all served quickly. Definitely recommended for an after-work drink or lunch.

The ambience is good and they have pretty good beer options. The food was average. We took veg dumplings, tofu salad, spring rolls and black eyed peas curry and rice. Dumpling was good. Probably the greatest choice of ales and beers I've seen in Sydney. The place looks like a typical old school boozer on the outside and the theme continues on the inside, but don't let that put you off, the beer is top notch. The friendliest and most knowledgeable staff I've come across. There is also a very decent bar food menu available to get some grub down you including veggie food, perfect for carrying on supping the 10.6% ABV Russian Imperial Stout. Try the bacon poutine, it's great. UPDATE: Still love it.

I needed to come here as my local brewery (Modus Operandi) had a collaborative ale on tap.... and had also heard the place was pretty special. It didn't disappoint... As others have mentioned, the screen of offerings makes life easier, and plenty of eclectic and off-centred beers in the mix. We tried sours, IPAs, and Barley Wines.... There aren't many pubs in Australia that will offer that on a given day (shout out to Grain Store in Newcastle)..... Good pub food... Nice local vibe.... I will return....

Excellent Burgers and Beers I've never been truly disappointed after spending an afternoon or evening at The Royal Albert Hotel. They have an excellent selection of obscure craft beers, if that's you're thing. Indoor can be a bit stuffy but there's Al fresco seating at the rear where you can get some air, sit back and enjoy one of their fabulous burgers. Just don't get the dumplings, they no good.

Great bar with a decent selection of beer and a dumpling house in the back. Staff are friendly. Does tend to get very crowded and noisy in the bar section, so if that's not your thing then you may want to steer clear. Also, they have poker machines... they lose one point for that alone. Given the fact that no one was in the room with the poker machines, and how crowded the place was otherwise, I'm surprised they even bother.

Tucked away on a backstreet corner in Surry Hills is one of the best craft beer bars, not only in Sydney, but Australia. Constant rotating taps including two hand pumps. The food is fantastic. A great range of burgers (Royale with Cheese is a standout) while in the rear of the hotel is the bamboo dumpling bar for some great affordable Asian food.

Great burger, $15 Royal with Cheese. Upgrades not required. If you like spicy, the jalapeño sauce and spicy Chip sauce is very tasty. Would do the burger again. $9 craft beer I had not so much. Not sure why it's such a big trend right now. Never a touch on some of the better well known beers.

This teeny weeny pub is all about the beer. Craft beer. There will be something for everyone's taste and they all come at a fairly reasonable price. They serve food too. The burger is good. A little hard to eat because everything kept slipping out of the bun but still very tasty. I like that it is not trying to be fancy or cool. It is just a good ol' tasty burger. The burger is only as good as the chips that it comes with and these ones are crinkle cut. Even better! I'm looking forward to another beer and maybe a hot dog next time.

Lovely little pub walking distance from Central. A focus on craft beers, but with an appreciable wine list. Not too expensive. Seating is a bit limited, but the restaurant next door (Bamboo) is owned by the pub and you can walk between either with your drink. In fact, if you buy a drink in the restaurant they grab it from the bar. The venue is Clipp-supported, so you can pay your bar (and restaurant) tab with your phone; always a plus. Don't be put off by the appearance of the main bar area. Unlike the rest of the bar, it hasn't been done up, so it has a very Sydney-ten-years-ago feel. Normally I would mark a venue down for having pokies, but they're well enough hidden away that they don't ruin the vibe. PS: the dumplings at Bamboo are some of the best I've had in Sydney. Nothing quite like sitting down with a delicious beer to a giant plate of dumplings.

Fantastic Surry Hills watering hole with a 'classic boozer' feel but with a fusion twist thanks to the dumpling dining on offer. Plenty of craft beers and ales on tap, instead of just the usual lager suspects, poured with a smile. Decor and vibe varies from the front bar to the backroom... and again to the dingy room of poker machines. The pokies knock a star off the rating for me. I'd like to think a bar this good could survive without the gambling income, and could do something interesting with the space.

A nice little pub in the heart of Surry Hills, the place is famous for its extensive range of beers and the friendly service. Check out their Facebook page for the Tap Takeover, when some of Australia's best craft breweries bring their produces down to the Royal. And if you're in for a good saturday night out, check out for their monthly Royal Shakedown party where an atomic mix of R&B, Rock'n'Roll, Soul and Garage is brought in in stacks of vinyl!!!
