Comments of Scruffy Murphy's hotel
A. R.
Tbf, great that you replied to a rating so an instant 1star bump.
Guinness wasn't amazing tbf. Plastic glasses don't help but I understand that issue isn't a controllable. Only had the one visit so a bit biased on those few pints. Get the Guinness better and a surefire 4*.
M.
Friendly service!
The beer was a little warm for my liking. But overall it’s nice and quiet in the pokies area.
S. H.
Excellent little bar near World Square. Music was a fun selection of 70s and 80s mixed with good modern pop. Cozy atmosphere and excellent pints of Guinness.
S. A.
Food took a while to come but it was delicious. At first we didn’t know that it was located on the second floor. You need to go upstairs for the food. It is very loud and vibrant, and if you like watching football and beer, you will like this place :)
A. P.
Dance floor is a bit small. Not sure if it's a good or bad thing😆. Next to base backpackers. Friendly staff and DJ was good as well.
H.
Awesome authentic Irish pub. Love sitting put the front and people watching, the afternoon can seriously get away from you out there. One of the best schooners of tooheys new I have ever had. Live music here is fantastic. Can't wait to come back here once the government loosens our shackles. A true hidden gem in the heart of the city
B. L.
Scruffy Murphy's on St. Patricks Day??? BLOODY RIPPA !!!! Absolutely fantastic day, great staff, great service, brilliant atmosphere. Huge Fun !!!
K. T. M.
Such a fun Saturday night with some oldie mix music and good vibe. Although, really hot inside. But overall was great!
N. P.
Used to go here regularly years ago. Great place. But I thought it closed down a couple of years ago and became a Thai restaurant. Did it reopen or something?
R. M.
Amusing backpacker / student bar in the heart of Sydney. Scruffy's is a true dive bar which can be great for a night out of people watching. As long as you don't expect fancy drinks or amazing bar food you'll have a fun time.
J. C.
The spirit of the Irish is strong. The passion of a good time lingers long into the night
Been here multiple times and I can say each time had been better then the last. Although one may assume it not much to look at, you would surely be wrong once you involve yourself in this glorious establishment.
No matter the theme of the night, whether it's karokie or live music, the venue simply brings a spark of life not seen elsewhere. A spirit that is persistent and one that brings even the most depressive drinker out of their rut.
The staff were wonderful, professional service and friendly staff both bar and security, serviced me with a Gorgeous and friendly face.
Worth every dollar and minute spent here.

We've liked Scruffy for their Irish atmosphere... We've pop up there with our friends after long time... unfortunately their true Irish atmosphere disappear.. bistro upstairs is now modern and do almost nothing to do with Ireland.. we had to wait for our meal almost 40 min, although we got full refund, this shouldn't happend... they weren't busy..
S. D.
Great venue for a night out, always a great atmosphere on the weekends, live music & DJ's until late. Have had many great nights out here with friends!
M. H.
A great authentic Irish pub in the heart of the CBD. Great for lunch and after work drinks. Wide variety of beers on tap and the food is always satisfying. And the employees are friendly to boot!
M. S.
If you want the best combination of sport, great food, live music and atmosphere then this is the best pub in Sydney. Seems to really have picked up of late and look forward to my next session at Scruffy Murphy's.
A. W.
Best beer hall and meet market in Sydney. if you can't make new friends at Scruffy's, you can't make new friends
F. S.
Authentic Irish pub in the heart of Sydney CBD. There isn’t a night were this place doesn’t have something happening - recommend to all those travelling to Sydney or live here full time. One of Sydney’s most underrated watering holes.
J. K.
Ab absolutely amazing and fun. The most beautiful little English Manchester girl that ran the bar and Irish manager and islander bouncer that made the place incredible. Well run, great staff, perfect atmosphere
F. E.
Friendly staff. Food is great although it took a while to get done and there were only a few young people dining.
J. H. P.
Great pub right in the heart of the city with outdoor seating and big selection of drinks that are very reasonably priced. Live sport and music always a plus.
S. C.
She's empty on a Wednesday night.but the Beers cold, music's playing
J. S.
Very lovely staff. Super friendly happy hours deals.
P. H.
Does serving Guiness, a few green banners and an Irish sounding name make you an Irish pub? The beer is cheap, the place has no atmosphere but lots of potential. It's does lack something that would move it into the category of Irish Pubs IMO.
L. D.
This place has changed from the last time I was here.
It used to be a place to have a good drink with mates and with good pub music and pub fare. But that was years and years ago.
When I visited lately, it has disco lights and the music was too loud. And packed with millennial patrons.
The staff are still courteous and friendly though. And that is the only good thing about this place.
The whiskey sour is still good here.
k. j.
Good Atmosphere, good staff, great music- live Dj & drummer.. good location.. not so great security staff.
S. F.
Great night, second trip to Sydney and I found myself here. The bar staff and bouncers were friendly. Had a few drinks and the atmosphere was great the crowd were all singing along with the karaoke singers having a good night. The host also did a great job dealing with the crowd, keeping the atmosphere easy going.
Great fun night out!
H. K.
Was the local watering hole pre lockdown. Beers are always cold and stuff friendly, i long for a cold pint.
A. K.
Time is changing so the places. I used to come here when I was studying and lunchtime the place was packed. Who could resist a $5 steak or chicken schnitzel. You had to wait to find seat and frequently we had to share tables with strangers.
Today (Wednesday) I have been there at 1pm and I was the only one there for a lunch. A steak is $18 now which is still not too high but I was missing the crowd.
I hope the place is much more busy at evening.

Best Irish pub is Sydney! great vibe, good music and good value food!
T. B.
Upstairs floor was very sticky and difficult to walk on, but the burger and chips were worth the struggle. The pub area downstairs had happy hour all day on Saturday (until 9pm) which was amazing. Cheap pints and good food, I'll definitely be back.
T. W.
Great Irish pub in the heart of the CBD with something for everyone split over three levels. Top level is a great laid back pub style setting and good for the sports days. Ground floor becomes the dance floor and the nightclub with the great new music. Underground is the dark nightclub that pumps out the great old school ballads.
A. B.
FANTASTIC DRINK SPECIALS!!!!!! As a backpacker this is the place to go. there is usually a live band playing and the energy is fantastic. One of the best things is that the bar stays open Extremely late so it is one of the best places to come after all of the other places have closed. I will definitely come back for more fun in the future.
R. S.
Great service, friendly staff. AFL final day, we weren't fans. Enjoyed the sole use of the downstairs pool table for a couple hours, before more patrons came down and joined us.
J. G.
In one word: 'Jess'.
I want to go back! Had a great night here last night. The dance floor was packed and going nuts! The drinks were flowing and didn't break the bank and we had fantastic service from Jess. She was an absolute champion, helping to cap off my mates bucks party with a really great session. We had, so much fun.
Very much a classic Irish pub. It is exactly as it is described, casual, laid back, big (but cozy - coz it was PACKED) and the croud and was fantastic. Boy, do they know how to get a party going! Next Sydney trip, I'm going back there.
P. M.
Cheap beers and great staff, but they need to close the doors in the middle of winter because it was freezing inside
P. P. S.
Good service, music like
A.
Exactly my kinda pub. A little raucous but had great live music, reasonably priced pints and great staff. Gave me my lemonade for free when I started getting a little tipsy! Would def go back.
D. D.
Great spot if your Irish in Sydney it's a taste of home. If your looking to see some GAA games it's the place to go. It was great to watch the ulster final so far away from home. The atmosphere was brilliant and the craic was mighty. Staff were lovely and a great place to meet people from home!
T. L.
Located right off George street with relatively cheap drinks available with food available upstairs. The chicken schnitzel is very good. There is a dance floor downstairs and a quieter bar located upstairs for when the downstairs is to crowded. They run different specials every night of the week so it's a different feeling each night.
A. D. (.
It a mess, trashy place... But like most of the Irish I have met in my life it somehow not that bad. Drinks are cheap and music isn't that bad. If you just want to get drunk with your Irish mates I would definitely go here for it.
E. “. A.
It's always an experience when you go to Scruffy's. If you're generally a quiet person it will get you out of your comfort zone. If you like loud places, and are happy to participate in the fun - you will have a great time meeting a diverse group of people.
Sure, it's not a place you would call, 'fancy' but it's not supposed to be. Drop by during the day for a nice $10 steak, come in at night for an experience.
G. L.
A very good pub, Irish one! It's a big place and you can find people from a lot of places. They have live music on saturdays and drag queen karaoke on Wednesdays. As the most places round here, the beer is not the cheapest, but it's a nice place.
J. B.
Popular spot... good atmosphere.
K. A.
A very chill pub to go to for a great time. They occasionally have live bands which actually do some great covers. Kind of a dive bar, but a fun atmosphere. A lot of Irish men there (obviously) so if that's what you're into, Scruffy's is definitely the place to go!
陳.
I had so much fun here .The best bar the best atmosphere
A. C.
This place is like a chameleon depending on the hour. By day enjoy a nice relaxing pint of Guinness and some very fair Irish themed food (the stew is highly recommended) in a chilled out and quiet environment. By night, the place comes alive with live bands and the local Irish folk having a craic. Upstairs live sports keep the guys entertained, whilst the ladies can dance the night away in the basement dance floor. Open till 6am (I think!), just remember to wipe your feet when you leave!
S. P.
This is a place which is surely not known for quality. But there are few places in the city of Sydney, where you can find a steak for such a low price. Granted, the meat might not be cooked to perfection, but if you're low on cash then this could very well be an option. Would not recommend for any sort of important occasion. Only if you're on the lookout for a cheap bite.
D. R.
It's called Scruffy Murphy's and that pretty much describes this pub. Murphy for the Irish, but it doesn't look or feel Irish. And Scruffy - definitely; it's rough around the edges and needs an update. But the foods good and cheap with good sized servings, plus specials on the drinks. Just don't expect style.
B. F.
The gaming room here always feels like people either want to sell you drugs or stab you. Or sell you drugs then stab you. They've got all your run of the mill games, lightning links, 88s, 5 dragons etc. Its open late, its smack bang in the centre of town and as such the crowd it draws are often less than savoury characters. Having said that, I go there so... Dunno about the main bar, I just go to play the pokies. Always gamble the feature.
J. H.
Great Irish Pub with great staff that make the experience one to remember
A. C.
Was there for a beer and gone but I'll be back fun times being had by many people. Awesome
G.
When I do come here, it is usually around lunch time and I haven't been for quite a while but I did eat here last week. They have recently repainted, so the paint smell is still quite strong. The new paint job actually makes the interior quite dark.
Their prices have increased, and they dont seem to be using backpackers as staff any more either.
Where you used to be able to get a steak for $6.50 with purchase of a drink, it is now $8.95.
They have tried going upmarket with way food is presented - on square plates; or hamburgers presented on a small bread board with hot chips (steak type cut) in what looks like a minature deep fryer basket, with a light herb seasoning. I think they are trying to imitate "The Shed", which is the cafe inside the foyer of the building next door.
Was able to buy a pitcher of cider for $12, which is not unreasonable; but they dont have in stock to have with lunch the small bottles of "Yellow" any more, which was a bit of a disappointment.
J.
I have been there on two Saturday nights. Loved it both times. The music upstairs is a remixed version of the top 40, and while I don't usually prefer this music, it is very fun to dance to. Once your ears have endured enough Miley, head downstairs for the more clubby music. This is great but my wears were ringing the whole next day. Can easily spend a couple of hours in Scruffy's. The water dispenses on the bottom floor are great too, as it saves having to que up with everyone wanting drinks.
J. L.
It's ok. Music that's playing now is great. Food was good but seriously, it's the SMALLEST chicken snitzel over ever paid for. Very much an entree portion.
A. N.
Scruffy Murphy's Irish Pub. Cheap food, cheap bear. Their steak used to be good but recently, it is worse and worse. I always ordered medium steak or medium well steak but they brought me a medium rare or rare steak and it was so terrible for me. I ate half of it and left and never come back since then.
J. f.
Some of the cheapest drinks you can get in the city, since Century Bar closed. Although as a sacrifice the interior is kind of scruffy (no pun intended) and the space is rather small for a dance floor.
At least after a night here, anything can happen, like Murphy's law (pun intended)
S. K.
Pints of Heineken are A1 Sharon and new chefs are brilliant.
Quiz is such a laugh too with the right host.
Good spot overall and reasonable prices
W. B.
My favourite pub for a schooner (or pint) after work.
J. H.
Good dingy place with live band and cheap drinks - what more could you ask for!
A. T.
Irish Pub with free pizza if you purchase a pitcher! PLUS drag queens w/ beards, can't go wrong w/ that. Its in a great location, lots of locals, and travelers.
A. D.
Went on a wednesday night. They had karaoke going and it was great fun! Everyone was singing along and dancing. Great for small and large groups.
J. S.
This is one of the most infamous pubs in Sydney. Even people who live right on the fringes of Sydney all know of Scruffy Murphy's and it's reputation. This place was on the black list of the NSW Government's most dangerous pubs list. I used to go here quite often, it's mainly filled with backpackers and there is the odd fight here and there.
RSA Marshalls are constantly monitoring everyone and counting how much everyone is drinking so you cannot really enjoy yourself. I once saw a guy get told at the bar, "That's your 6th cider, after this one you have to go" by one of the RSA Marshalls even though he was stone cold sober. I recommend going here, it's an "experience".
J. l. O.
The most friendly staff very well educated, very good looking and fast service would definitely come again
A. G.
Sticky floors but what were you expecting from an Irish bar that's Open 24? I have had numerous meals upstairs. - consistently cheap and decent. Worth a schnit or two.
K. D.
Great Irish Pub - love their bistro food
G. M.
Nice pub! Relaxed environment, but gets more lively when the music starts.
$7 jugs on some days, and free pizza with a schooner of beer on tuesdays and wednesdays!
I. D.
Nice place. On tuesdays we can enjoy a very funny trivia game. Also the booze is cheap and the food tastes delicious.
P. R.
Known for a good crowd and gr8 beer. In the heart of the city. They don't have a dedicated smoking area. Which is a shame. But gr8 place to hang out
K. E.
Gets very busy in the weekends and open till very late. I have had a few very good nights here. Beware! DONT WEAR FLIP FLOPS - they will stick to the floor and break. I have sacrificed 4/5 good pairs to the scruffy floor.
B. M.
So sad Scuffy Murphys hss closed. Its now called Mojos Not Happy Guinness is no longer sold in Pint glasses. But unlabeled Schooner glasses at a ridiculous price
Price of 2 Schooners Scruffy Murphy sold 3 pints and you got change
W. M. P. L.
Nice place to hang out and chill with friends. I love the fact that they play music on some of the days and band is a bonus please pay them a visit and experience the service it’s great and always maintained
R. L. H.
It's been awhile since I have come here but I have a lot of memories from this place, some of the highlights were
1) Seeing an all in brawl out the front of the pub and watching someone there head smack onto the road and everyone running off.
2) Seeing the RSA Marshalls counting how much everyone was drinking with tickers and notepads and the guy in front of me was told "You've had 6 ciders tonight this will be your last one ok" and to be honest he was sober and not behaving badly.
3) Some guy packed himself in the pub.
4) Picking up this weird israeli girl.
5) Seeing an all in brawl between 2 groups of English backpackers who went for the same team in football.
And many many more.
M. I.
Decent Irish pub with great service and good food. The place is not the cleanest I've ever been to but enjoyable none the less.
C. J. F.
VIP area was clean and COVID safe. Bar was clean and attracts the usual crowd
R. M.
Had the T bone special Guinness pie. Food was very good. Great Irish pub. Recommended for inexpensive, good food & cold beer.
O.
The loud music, cheap drinks & steak
J. '. H.
Your standard pub fare themed food. Nothing memorable but with reasonable prices it's not a bad place to stop for a bite or meeting up for a few drinks.
K. W.
Great Irish pub in World Square .. very relaxed and friendly pub for Friday night after work .. full of all nationalities great music from a guy on guitar . Was a crowd pleaser
J. A. (.
Nice environment and great atmosphere. Food is awesome, besides they usually have live music as well
P. S. S. (.
A totally Irish vibed place coz seriously, I heard a celtic song playing. However, it was in the 2007. A great place to roleplay your exploits after a great game of Dungeons & Dragons.
M. E. B.
It's a fun irish pub.
With all you can expect from a pub, beer and music.
On Saturday you have a live band and you can dance.
Good fun.
L. P.

A. G.
Great place for getting decent food for a cheap price. Steak was good and the beer also. 15$ for a 300g Steak + beer.
J. K.
I've never been here sober, but it's amazing and this is a place I'm always going back to. The music isn't super crappy either.
S. F.

A great steak and a lovely blonde Irish barmaid, what more can a man ask for!
G. L.
A very good pub, Irish one! It's a big place and you can find people from a lot of places. They have live music on saturdays and drag queen karaoke on Wednesdays. As the most places round here, the beer is not the cheapest, but it's a nice place.

R. N.
Nice and quiet when i went during the day

A. A.
Great live sports venue, good value meals and not too expensive.
T. M.
Nice cold beer served by a great bartender.
S. G.
Irish themed pub that does cheap pub grub up stairs and a night club down stairs. Once the kitchen closes and the night wears on the bouncers become ridiculous so I stopped going.
J. C. L.
Great place, great food. The price on Happy Hour is the best!
G. H.
Everyone here is up for a good time. Friendly bar staff and not as expensive as some places nearby
H. M.
