Excellent food/bev and staff at this iconic Sydney hotel. Wow the attention to detail and the shows are second to known. The quality of the meals were absolutely outstanding and I can’t say enough for what a fantastic time we had. Management and staff went out of their way to make sure we were well looked after and treated like VIPs all weekend. Say hi to Ian from Dublin, the restaurant manager while you’re there! June Marie Bennett aka Shirl from Priscilla Queen of the desert sends her love hugs and thanks to you all.

We went here for the drag n dine for my birthday and it was amazing!! Nice cocktails, great music, amazing food and really lovely staff. Also the decor in the place is beautiful!! We ended up staying for an extra 3 hours after the show because the music was too good not to stay for a dance. This is the first place I've gone to in a long time that felt like a safe space, no dramas or judgement, everyone is just there for some fun and a good time. We cannot wait to come back!!!

the best pub in Sydney. Staff are so friendly, the space is so funky, security are gentle and welcoming.. never had a bad experience here. Great drink options and the food is always tasty! For a judgment free and enjoyable experience, come here!

We went here for our 1st trivia night. The ambiance was great. Fran the host was lovely despite him expressing he was in a bad mood. She simply lit the room in spite of. The questions were fun. The only thing we didn’t like about it was the too competitive (and rude) group beside us who insisted ‘Olivia Rodrigo’ was the same as ‘Olivia Rodriguez’ among others. Still, 5 stars coz overall we had a great experience. Staff and bartender were oh so friendly as well!

Drag n' dine experience was sensational. Ladies you are superstars. Such fun. Lots of energy and comedic moments thrown in. Great costumes and song choices too. Food was amazing! Wow! Incredible value for money. A great night. We will be back. Thank you

The drag shows, music and atmosphere tend to be on point. This review is more to do with the dining. The food as part of the drag and dine shows is not quite as good and filling as it once was. Especially not for the price paid. I was left wanting to order more food on the side afterwards.

Visited Friday 19/11/21. 5 stars for the PHENOMENAL drag queens <3 and entertainers (Demon Derriere woo! and some spicy thickney spears type and others, all incredible honestly) and the DJ downstairs, absolute pop bops for hours (so much Kylie Minogue & only $10 entry). My only constructive criticism which is uncomfortable to raise is the security staff. I'd like to acknowledge that working in security is a hard job, you'd be seeing some people at their worst and no one can be perfect, we're all human. The snippy comments at the door on the way in and way out by two different security guards made me reflect on the importance of not imposing your own stress and anxiety on others when flustered or tired because they did this. I don't drink, was sober, was not wearing my glasses and had my fiancé beside me on both interactions. The comment, "One at a time, thanks guys", followed with an enormous frown, my short sighted self could see a mile away without glasses even if I hadn't have been the one front of line being spoken to directly was abrasive and passive aggressive. I was standing there patiently, relaxed with my covid vaccine passport and license out for when she was ready, she can take her time, I was not imposing my identification in her face impatiently. And the, "Ah...yeah you just push it" comment, followed by a cheshire cat mocking grin in regards to the door on the way out because I paused for a moment as it's my 2nd visit (years apart), my vision was adjusting and I wasn't sure I had the right exit was unnecessary and caustic and reeked of the narrow minded assumption, "people without common sense are stupid". No one was behind my fiancé and I, I was not holding up a line. I raise these interactions because they undermine and devalue the performers and all the staff doing a great job and because The Imperial is meant to be a safe space. I spoke to the friends I went with later who are monthly regulars at the Imperial, they said the security are often like this. Hoping the security reflect on if unable to be polite at the very least not being rude and adding some more self care into their lives.

Hi,
I just wanted to acknowledge a manager by the name of Iain (hope I’m spelling that right). On Saturday night I witnessed him being badly berated by a woman who was being quite verbally abusive and racist to other patrons. Iain handled the situation incredibly and I watched him calmly diffuse the situation and make sure the woman was removed then going and checking on the affected patron and ensuring he was ok and got home safely. Iain went above and beyond for everyone involved and he really deserves credit where credit is due. A great assets to your team.
N. B.
Delicious food, particularly the cauliflower and the mushrooms tostada. The service from James, Ian and Charlie was friendly and attentive and the show was so much fun. Can’t wait to come again’
C. M.
Love the decor and drag shows, staff are also very friendly. Security was a little harsh, wouldn't let my friend back in without a mask which she had left inside
T. B.
The renovations have really given the Impy new life! Can recommend both Priscilla's downstairs or the beautiful upstairs rooftop for pizza!!!
L. S.
Fantastic drag and dine! Could've been a bit more food on offer but the ladies and their performances were incredible! 🌈🌈🌈
R. T.
Simply great food and wonderful vibes with a twisted unique touch of drag!
Price wise I think what they are offering is worth it. You can have couple of gags while you are enjoying a wonderful evening dinner. I would recommend this restaurant for everyone.
M. M.
This place nailed it for us. We came for a quick drink and stayed all night. We ended up having dinner. The staff were so upbeat and genuinely happy to be there. They look after us very well. Good range of Mexican inspired food and vegetarian options. The cauliflower was flying out of the kitchen. They had a drag show on which kept us entertained. Easy walk from Erskinville station and Newtown station.
E. S. D.
I was very much impressed with how they have dome up the venue upstairs. Totally loving the vibe, went there for a birthday get together and look forward to heading back again for another night of chilling. Pizza makers were friendly to chat to and service was great.
e. S.
Went to “drag me to lunch”, bottomless bubbles and a vegan set menu, was so much fun! The rooftop bar is awesome and a non intimidating vibe. 🍸🕺🏼
B. C.
Last night I attended ROOD FOOD at Imperial. Their immersive dinner experience, a twist on drag & dine. It was amazing!! the food was so incredibly delicious, with options for any dietary type. We were on the bottomless bubbles which made it very easy to just sit & enjoy the show. The queens in the show were so entertaining. Incredibly talented and made it all that much better! Rood Food runs until the end of the month, I HIGHLY recommend going.
S. B.
Love the new reno at this landmark pub in Erko! Had a great Sunday afternoon including lunch and drinks upstairs in the courtyard! Delicious food, good music and the waitstaff and security were warm and friendly. Pleased to see the owners retained elements of the original interior.
S.
A gay bar. Very quiet on a Saturday afternoon. There is a bistro and a beer garden. There is a bar up stairs and down stairs with some entertainment. I would think that it would get busy of a night. Some craft beers on tap.
J. M.
Lovely atmosphere, don't go if your a homophobe as this is a Historic LBGT Hotel. Lovely staff and door staff, great cold beer with plenty of options to try. This is a place you find nice people only.
S. J.
The new PRICILLA’S RESTAURANT delicious Californian Mexican flavours.Delightful vegetarian menu. Excellent staff, calm, friendly & super efficient on a day when it was jam packed with a mile long que. One of the best cerviche & seafood I’ve had anywhere, including CA. Not pub food, more high end quality and Restaurant style portions. Good wine, cocktails looked great. The baked cauliflower, stuffed squid, pumpkin balls, tostada, chicken were scrumptious. Main bar & attached dinning area ear shatteringly loud. Try & score a outside or back room table.
F. C.
We had a wonderful evening here! Great food and very friendly and attentive staff! There are apparently 3 types of food, Italian upstair, bar food and fusion kitchen on the ground floor, so good to know this when reserving. Varied and mixed and very friendly crowd! A bit far from the ‘centre’ but the trip was well worth it! Highly recommendable!
S. B.
Catch up for drinks, very busy, took over 30 minutes for a round of beverages. Nothing fabulous, nothing negative.
C. M.
I really enjoyed this place! Came here for a bachelorette and had a lot of fun! The food was delicious and the Entertianment excellent! My only complaint is that the bar server was super slow to pour drinks, which was an issue because we had paid for the 2 hrs of unlimited drinks package but it was at least 30 mins until everyone even had their first drink.
B. R. A.
Had dinner at the Up restaurant, some good pizza and pasta (pizza is half price on Fridays when we went). Staff were super helpful and allowed me to get a different wine when I thought the initial glass was slightly off. The golden oven was over the top and great.
I enjoyed the function and the basement - went home before midnight but it looked like the vibe would get better and better over the night.
I. A.
What a fun night. Drag queens performing on stage Priscilla style while people had their dinners. Great atmosphere but what was really surprising was the food. There wasn’t a single dish that I didn’t enjoy and not what I would have expected from a pub. Well worth a visit.
Z. R.
Priscilla’s Restaurant for the Saturday night show was the perfect way to welcome myself back into society after lockdown! Food was absolutely brilliant, the shows and the queens were incredible, and the staff were gorgeous! Special shout-out to my servers Amy and Anya tonight they were most accommodating and were smiling and cheerful the whole evening! Cannot recommended it enough!
L.
We booked the three course Drag and Dine and loved every minute of it. We had not expected the food to be of such high quality and it exceeded our expectations. Vegan options were fantastic. The queens are amazing.
J. K.
Yummy food, chips were a tiny bit too crunchy, staff were all nice this time, only random thing was the bottom of the salt and pepper shakers were a bit grotty. Also my friend ordered a salad way before me ... but their meal took way longer to come out after my pasta. Also went here for the Pricilla’s menu which is on the website but upstairs they had a different menu with much less vegan options. I would visit here again after this experience.
K. H.
Fantastic vibe with super friendly staff. The place livens up after 11pm! Definitely the place to be for a good groove
E.
I was traveling alone for the first time in Sydeny and I was hesitant to come see the show but I am so glad I did. The staff were so attentive. The Queens were hilarious and the food was yummy! My drinks were amazing as well. The place was very busy but everyone made sure I had what I needed and apologized for any delays. If you like drag queens and want to wander away from the touristy central district , this is the place to go!
P. W.
Classic venue that had a refurb in 2018 and looks great. Good drinks, decent food, friendly vibe and of course drag shows on the Priscilla stage.
S. B.
It's a fun place to be... If you're in the area you must visit it and see where the Priscilla Queen of the Desert was shot. Really friendly stuff, good food and funky service...
m. g.
We had a bridal shower booked for dinner and show. My friend the bride was very happy!!
N. C.
great venue, good for a quick drink or a Saturday night out. loved the music there, plus all the staff were friendly and welcoming at the door and inside. drinks weren't too badly priced as well. I recommend the shows if you get a chance. they are well performed and respected,
should you also get the chance on a Saturday, go out dancing here! plenty of good songs and classics to let loose to. They have some good events here as well downstairs, so always good to check what is coming up. Lastly the venue itself is huge. the architecture is beautiful and is something of a landmark. make sure you pay a visit if you're wanting to make a night out
V. B.
If you like Priscilla... the movie, let have a drink there and maybe a diner to enjoy the drag show. The place have been renovated so quite a bit different from the movie but the atmosphere is great and the staff very kind.
T. G.
Definitely worth a visit. Our friend invited us here and we had no idea what to expect. The food was amazing. We had only vegetarian dishes but all where fantastic. The terrace is a great place to hang out and maybe even have a pizza. And the shows where really entertaining. If you have the chance, it‘s worth a visit for sure!
R. R.
Always great to come back to this place. Just one of the most amazing places for partying in Sydney.
V. M.
Wonderful experience! On a rainy Wednesday night a night out at The Imperial was perfect. Food was fabulous although a little on the expensive side, but the lovey hostess Krystal Klee made it worth it! The new decor is stylish and very plush, gorgeous place to relax on a week day!
A. F.
We went on a Saturday night and had a great time. The music was all on point and stuff you can actually dance to. We want to come back and try the restaurant. There was also a drag show happening when we got there which was really funny. The only negative is that the drinks at the bar were expensive and the male bathrooms were absolutely disgusting. I actually had to put my nose under my shirt while I was in there or I would throw up.
R. T.
Who does not know The Imperial Hotel? Come here for its $12 pasta. There are few pasta dishes to choose from. No happy hour but good place for cheap dinner on Monday if you are lazzy to cook
R. R.
Nice place to enjoy good cocktails. The staff upstairs very friendly and helpful.
Y. B.
What a place!! Food is great, music great and the show fantastic!!! Always love going there!!
M. P.
I have been many times and the last renovations years ago were perfect. Great new rooftop bar that can open to the elements or be enclosed. Yummy pizzas from the pizza oven. Awesome drag shows and the original downstairs bar is always a great hang out spot never what day of the week or time.
S. C.
Always have an amazing time at The Impy - been coming here for a lot of years (pre-reno too). Omar on the door is a perennial favourite face on the door and of course Ian is always an amazing host in Priscilla's and beyond. Love you guys do - and of course an honourary mention to Ruby Royale and Farren Heit
T. C.
The rooftop bar - with the retractable roof - is great. Good pizza
J.
Great hotel with drag bingo on Thursday night, good atmosphere and excellent location.
J. A. M.
This is the best experience I've had in Sydney for a long time. I was taken for lunch on the lower floor restaurant by my family. The building and interior are gorgeous and eclectic, the vibe very cool, the staff professional and funny. But above all was the quality of the food with prices not over the top. We were fortunate enough to try some new menu items, the chef is so talented. I haven't heard so many ooos and ahhhs from a table of people eating food ever I don't think. I highly recommend the Imperial and I will be going again.
A. L. M.
Great concept and fitout it has some standout features which I will go back to enjoy, and helpful eager staff. They even called me back after a complex reservation question. Professional cheerful keen to do well... The evening we went up to the rooftop dining and bar the staff, while super helpful and hospitable, and were flexible so we could move table to a heater, could do with better knowledge of the wine list and menu items. Pizza was potentially excellent but the first one out of the flash looking pizza oven was a little undercooked. So I summary a great concept but staff may need some time to ease back I to it and polish up on a few things to Ake it too notch. Keep it up! P.s. it's too cold on the rooftop at the moment so they may need to close the roof soon to keep it warm ... Not sure how that works
A. J.
I had dinner at ground floor, some of source is bit strong flavor and small serve. Staffs are extremely friendly!
L. C.
Drag and dine was an absolute hoot! Jess the mess was the best waitress of the year. A real queen- one to compete with the beauties on stage. The best night, with great service and delicious food. Cannot recommend enough 🥳
M. T.
Such a great venue and a nice change to Oxford and King St places. Crowds can get a bit crazy even with the pretend distancing as they rope off areas to keep total numbers down but also gets squishy and causes very long lines outside in busy times. We waited 70mins to get in, had fun inside but then had to pay $15 to get to the basement which was packed and sweaty. Still worthwhile going when they have the right events on.
J. B.
What a Sydney institution. I have always loved a drink and a boogie at the Imperial over the years, and even though times are different now in hospitality venues with staff having to manage social distancing regulations (and sadly, no dancing), the incredible folks at the Imperial did (and always do) their very best to accommodate my friends and I for a last minute group booking. Everyone was extremely communicative and professional throughout our night (not to mention the delicious grub & cocktails). Thanks team!
K. R.
Amazing food, service and entertainment. We thoroughly enjoyed our Drag 'n' Dine experience last night.
a. d.
Friendly respectful enjoyable well run . fabulous food very entertaining and Lots of fun
K. R.
upstairs is all fun and funky. they’ve got some interesting cocktails. we went on a friday night and the service takes a little while.
N. K.
First time drag and show and was well impressed!
Food, service was great! Show was incredible.. dancers were beautiful and had so much energy!
Have never been to the venue and I was so impressed! Thanks for a great night. X
T. R. T.
Has changed patrons since lockout laws and lockdown. Miss the old vibe but the shows are still pretty awesome.
B. F.
We had a great night at the Impy. We had a booking at Up and the Maître D down stairs moved us without any questions he was awesome. James was our waiter and he was incredible and the food was amazing. The show was so much fun , the Drag Kings are awesome!!! Thank you so much Team Impy
L. M.
Attended the Drag and Dine; dinner and show.
Food was AMAZING..The staff served a room full of people, we were packed to the rafters And yet it was melt in your mouth deliousness. I bow to kitchen for the food was magic.
Cocktails, not bad. The red wine however was really bad, we might of been unlucky.
Management on point.
Wait staff was attentive, polite and polished. In a room full of people we were well looked after and she anticipated when it was time to float over and offer more drinks.
The show was not as fabulous and outrages as I thought It would be, I've seen some of Queens in other showers and they are normally that and more so maybe the food was just so amazing I was dazzled by the flavours instead of the glitter.
g.
Love the new layout upstairs. Was wanting to see a show however due to COVID, had to take a seat at the bar area upstairs. However, delicious cocktails and unpretentious staff. Good time was had by all 😁
R. R.
OMG what a amazing place . Been in Sydney for the last week thought I would give this place a visit. The place was going off. Fully booked . Talked to one of the staff Ian who couldn’t do enough for me got me and my friends a table and looked after us all night . If all the bars in Sydney had a Ian the world would be a much better place. A million thanks Ian for making this old queen feeling very special. All my friends cannot wait to come back to the Imperial. ❤️❤️❤️Ralph & Nhut
T. C. (. K. S.
Love this place. Love Pricillas restaurant and great cocktails
M. P.
Excellent food and exciting flavors!
L. C.
It's my favourite gay bar in Sydney. Go here for a genuine, fun night out. I went on the Sunday before Christmas. They had a Christmas carol sing-a-long, amateur lip-sync battle (audience participation encouraged) and pumping pop favourites that have you singing and dancing all night long.
I gave it 4 stars (instead of 5) for two reasons. Firstly, we ate at the restaurant, but the food was not great. They have a share plate menu, which is nice, but the options we had were just weird and left a strange taste in the mouth (i.e. don't get the roasted cauliflower or roasted carrot). Secondly, for a Sunday session, the music was too loud (especially on the top floor). I want to drink and have a chat with my friends. I don't want to be screening at them all afternoon.
So all in all, a great place for a good, fun night out. Maybe don't go there for dinner.
A. M.
It's an experience going to the Impy, great selection of everything
M. E.
The HOME of drag. Always a fun time, great music, great people. Inclusive, accepting and overall, just a really fun time. I can't go to the Imperial without ending up dancing here for hours.
A. F.
We went on a Saturday night and had a great time. The music was all on point and stuff you can actually dance to. We want to come back and try the restaurant. There was also a drag show happening when we got there which was really funny. …
P. B.
Always a good time at the impy
N. w. m.
A Newtown icon!
T. M.
Went here for the first time over the weekend. Downstairs nightclub was amazing especially the blond bar tender!! He really looked after us, made our night.
H. R.
Had a great time. Staff were lovely. Especially Ryan with the mullet.
T. P.
Was heaps of fun Saturday..although the DJ couldn't mix would just change the song.
C. D.
Delicious, well priced food. Excellent customer service. Cocktails to die for. Entertainment galore and the feel of a local. We attended Drag and Dine and Lip Sync Hero's and it was the highlight of our trip.
I would have loved some merch!
R. L.
Really nice bar after the remodel. Food is fantastic, pizza oven on site, beautifully done art deco interior, cool rooftop with retractable ceiling and drag. Lots of drag. Campest bartenders in the area too. Good mixed crowd, mostly gay upstairs. Friendly people all around and wonderfully helpful staff.
L. O.
The is a historic local Erko venue. The restaurant does modern Mexican/Australian with a slant towards vegetarian but not exclusively so.
There is also the usual pub grub and an Italian small restaurant upstairs.
The drink selection is high quality, and don’t forget the easy to miss arcade room for a game of pool or a pinball machine.
Downstairs they have a late night club venue with regular live music events. Always a good vibe, great for a dance, but entry fee after 10 ($20 I think last time).
S. H.
Great new renovations to this establishment. Still keeps its old world feel however with a modern approach
Great new dining room at the back part and cute bar to the side. It’s really worth checking out.
Downstairs has some modern touches and is amazing for a night out of dancing and socializing.
Great space! Def worth a visit. And the best part is that it has no weird drinking rules like the city side of Sydney.
C. W.
Great atmosphere. A fun and friendly space no matter how you identify. Non pretentious. The meals are delicious as well. I always enjoy this space. Checkout the incredible ceiling mural
B. 8.
Always a great time. The recently renovated Imperial offers a great mix of dance floor, dining and trendy lounges to have a drink.
The menu is impressive with multiple vegan options and the bar is well staffed with plenty of cocktail options. Very friendly vibes at this iconic Sydney venue, try to catch one of the drag shows in the evening as they are a lot of fun.
Great to see the Imperial open again, I'll be a regular customer.
M. B.
Really love what’s been done with the old girl! We came in for dinner on the weekend and loved the drag shows, the food was amazing and the drinks were great. Young staff need a bit of direction (coming from hospitality myself) but overall a great experience! The manager Sarah took us on a tour and made us feel at home! Will definitely be back.
D. P.
Drag artists, between shows stopped by to ask if I was enjoying my meal and gave desert suggestions. The menu is creative and fresh - the interior decoration is elegant and fun - the staff are extremely friendly.
The Imperial is a Sydney Icon. We’re lucky its being looked after and remains a fun place to party!
L.
Probably 4.5 star. Great pub with absolutely incredible venue options inside, from loud to stylish through to outright flamboyant. Bar staff (especially young female serving Tues night) can be rude, short and abrupt which is a shame as otherwise I'd rate this place as 5 star. Great location, about 5-10 minutes walk from Newtown train station or a few minutes up from Erskineville train station. Some back street parking can be found (although challenging!). Would still definitely recommend - great find, awesome vibe and incredible live performances. Would easily fit a few hundred people - perfect to book for groups. Will keep coming and hope that young staff are taught to respect the elderly more. Otherwise brilliant place, great food, with brilliant interior design.
S. S.
Was unsure what the refurbishment would do to a local much loved by my friends, but I'm pleased to say they have done a great job. Interior decor is outstanding - slick and shabby, camp and kitsch. I've eaten at Priscilla's which was daring, unusual menu and delicious food. I've also eaten at Up which was hit and miss - pizzas were amazing but skip everything else on the menu. The staff are all awesome, cool young people who have a lot of fun at work.
A. S.
Love this place heaps and heaps. Always fun, always colorful. The staff are super friendly, the restaurant has great food particularly if you are vego. Has drag shows every night. Has good wines (natural choices). Not dog friendly but you can't have everything!
R. T.
My girlfriend is a type 1 diabetic and experienced a critical sugar low last weekend on the dance floor and security/management (Simon)/bar staff were absolutely excellent! The level of professionalism was second to none and we were escorted to a quiet section of the hotel and provided all the necessities to stabilise her sugar levels and were checked on regularly to make sure we were alright. They were fast, helpful and knowledgeable. Couldn’t be more appreciative guys
Y. M.
Ian (the manager) is an absolute GEM!!! So nice and hospitable. I love this place because of him.
J. H.
Soooo much fun! A jungle of laughter, joy and fun! Everybody is at the imperial to just have a great time. Such a great night out! The performances were amazing and the music was great. I didn’t eat there, but the dining space and food looked great!
P. O.
Amazing place. Great food and entertainment if your going there during the day and amazing nightlife.! Music keeps you dancing all night and never takes long to get drinks that are reasonably priced
J. P.
I had high hopes but was disappointed if I’m totally honest, the venue refurbishment was beautiful, I get the use of veggies more on the menu but you have to fill people up. I ordered vegan banger and mash, while it was delicious the portion size was terrible, it was like a starter. Despite highlighting this twice to the staff (politely) nothing was done except to pass my feedback to the kitchen. That didn’t help me, I left hungry! The drag was below average, could have been so much more fun but wasn’t. Found it all a bit third rate but on the more expensive side. I’d go again but I’d order the half chicken which defeats the object of what you’re trying to achieve.... a real shame I wanted to love it!
C. C.
Great atmosphere, loads of fun. Restaurant not so great. Was there for a birthday & ordered the banquet menu ($80). The staff decided without telling us that the three dietary requirements at our table were too hard & gave us vegetarian. Very disappointing and paid $60 for a bunch of carrots and cauliflower..
M. M.
Best local I've ever had! Since reopening in March 2018, this place is just amazing. The renovations look beautiful, the staff are friendly and helpful, good bar selection and then there is the Bistro. Just delicious. Vegan options are plentiful and very impressive. Something for everyone.
S.
Once again a beautiful meal. Food is really fabulous, great flavours and variance of menu. Produce is of high standard and cooked clean and healthy. Floor staff are really happy and helpful. Create a lovely relaxed mood.
J. V.
Had my birthday lunch here and I have to say the staff here are absolutely delightful everyone was so kind, friendly and patient as we ordered food and had cake etc. And OMG the food I cant...I dont know where to start just delicious and it's a must!!!
Great location and venue. Highly recommend heading in for dinner or a drink here. Loved the atmosphere. My friends and I are certainly going back for a boogie next time! Thank you to the staff members yesterday (17/11) who took our orders and provided a great experience.
B. G.
I like the rooftop area. and the downstairs decor is opulent. The bar staff have some attitude at first but are nice once you get to know them. The kitchen produces some good food.
B. S.
On this visit we decided to go Upstairs. What a fabulous decision we had the best time. We enjoyed Pizza and wine on one of the sofas. Went downstairs when we heard there was a pole dancer! As usual five stars!
S. C.
It had been a year since my last visit to the Imperial and I was gobsmacked at the renovations, it looked amazing. The staff were amazing; the atmosphere of the patrons friendly and the shows on point. I love coming here when I'm in Sydney and have no qualms dragging friends along and watch them having as great a time.
M. B.
I don't come often and I'm always very impressed. I have always found great food and customer service,. This hotel now has an open floor plan. This is a very popular place for the LGBTQ community and straight community alike. There is free Drag shows here on particular nights and really worth the visit for the show alone.
K.
Best place for a trashy night on the downstairs dance floor. Would really recommend the Drag & Dine if you're looking for sometime a little bit different
P. U.
The renovation and the new demographic that has been drawn to The Imperial is what now makes this my favourite venue for nightlife. People having fun, singing and dancing along to the music. Happy drunks, no fighting, and really filling up by 9pm instead of 1am. More gay friendly than gay bar but everyone is welcome as a result.
T. H.
Seriously the best pub food on the planet. This is my local bar and I can not believe the level they have taken this place to. The restaurant food is simply amazing - the rooftop terrace if the perfect place for a Sunday arvo. Be warned it books out for lunch every weekend so make a booking a week or so in advance. Also the wine and drinks are on the expensive side - but if you want to treat yo self.... have a long lunch here! Enjoy.
K. D.
Really nice place. The vegetarian options here are very tasty. The staff are always welcoming and provide great service. I was able to catch the drag show once- it was quite fun. I really like the food and the ambience of this place. If you’re vegetarian you are going to be delighted.
S. T.
The revamped Imperial Hotel is in tune with today’s competitive F&B scene and instead of serving a generic dish and cold beer, the refurbishment has delivered the goods. Highly recommend supporting the venue, the super friendly staff and delicious food upstairs!
W. C.
Wow! The Imperial Hotel had a big makeover and the ground floor’s now huge with lots of dining options and even a sweet new outdoor area at the back. We’re impressed with all the veggie options and iconic drag queen cocktails. They plan to makeover and open the rooftop soon too! 🌈
A. A.
We spent there first years eve there. It's a fun venue LGBTQ friendly. It was re really full of course but people were really happy over there and respectful. There are multiple rooms: the one with a big bar in the centre has commercial music, the one downstairs techno minimal. Luckily there are still venues like this in Sydney
A. R.
Lots of fun but the venue isn't very clean. I don't like the unisex bathrooms because they smell much worse than women's bathrooms usually do.
W. T.
I normally go there for night out. I love downstairs. It is nice and cosy. The drag shows are good too and the DJs are good both floors. The crowd is more chilled compared to the one in the city.
H. C.
Love the Up Bar- the wood fired pizzas are fantastic and the cocktails all names after drag queens are simply gorgeous! It’s had a really funky Art Deco refit and the open air section make this a really cool place to hang out!
K. M.
Two great menus to choose from, normal bar/pub menu which serves the great classics, or if you’re feeling a bit more fancy, the menu at Pricilla’s is well presented vego/vegan friendly food. The cauliflower wings are great!!
S. T.
Had a great night at Priscilla's yesterday. Food was delish. Would have liked a banquet option that was vego + meat without having to get seafood but apart from that it was awesome and I was made to feel super special on my birthday which was a bonus!
B. K.
An absolute must visit in Erskineville. We’re locals and the Imperial is our go to pub of choice. If you have a moment, read about the history and significance of this venue. Then go in and appreciate the diverse and eclectic nature of the Imperial. The restaurant downstairs, Priscillas, does have a veg dominant menu with classic pub options at the bar. Definitely try and catch one of their Drag’n’Dine shows if you can. Upstairs is Imperial Up and has a completely different feel to downstairs - very chill and laid back, open air with an Italian menu available on weekends.
S. S.
We booked with a large group. The staff were highly entertaining, interactive, and extremely accommodating. The food was lovely, the cocktail menu delicious and we will definitely be going back.
B. M. (. M.
This was the first time I had been to the imperial. It's such a great place. It suits the area of erskinville. Warm and friendly. I had a great time with friends. We ate, drank and then went downstairs for a dance. I didn't have to go anywhere else. This place had it all. I loved it!
S. M.
Big shout out to our waiter James. You are awesome!
And Ruby you are amazging thank you for coming by our table to grace us with your present. We love you!
Diffinatly a great place to go. Roof top bar, show, food & a place where you can dance. All under the one roof. We had the best night. Thank you Imperial hotel!
C. R.
Great renovation and the foods great. Still got teething issues, 45+ minutes to get a drink downstairs in the basement, no toilet paper in the bathrooms which were filthy and took about 30 minutes to get in to the smoking area. Better planning and staffing and the Impy would be the cream of the crop
r. f.
Dear Imperial management , I really wanted to review you at a 4 star
but 3 is appropriate at this stage
Visited last week and this weekend both Sat nights and drank at the small corner cocktail bar on the main level.
Now last week you had staffed correctly with a lovely girl whos attention to detail and polite manners won all the patrons incl myself.
I bought several rounds of drinks with some new friends and had a great evening.
This Sat just past ...same bar different staff. ...... polite .....somewhat......
I bought 1 drink not even my first choice , no juice no ginger ale , no this no that , ......go to the other bar they might have it there !
YOU ARE A PUB / HOTEL / BAR
How on earth do you manage a hotel that mainly derives revenue by drinks and RUN OUT of mixers on a Sat night ? Not even past 11pm ?
I had a question about an XO , the young chap behind the bar needs a bit more empathy and more manners in dealing with patrons that's all I'm saying.
Perhaps your management can change my mind on the rating based on my next visit in the near future.
Edit ( 13/5/18 ) * * * * 4 stars now near perfect !
As promised I have revisited & wow you had 4-5 staff mixing and running drinks and nothing ran out !
I think the same little chap behind the bar actually had a smile on his face
Patrons were interesting and well behaved .....as far as pub goes.
I even checked basement out very civilised !
Everyone seems to have had good time on a freezing night.
Well done !
The only star is reserve for the shows and restaurant which I will get to soon.
S. M.
Great place except the staff are really rude. Didn’t have a single positive interaction with them, got yelled at for no reason several times and it was a really unfortunate downer on an otherwise great night.
A. b. (. T. T. S.
UP at the Imperial is a great roof top space with bar and food. A Mirrorball-inspired pizza oven and colourful decor make a great first impression. But it's the great pizzas and friendly staff that makes this a 'must do' this summer.
C. G.
We had a fantastic lunch at Up the Italian on top level today
Only feedback is I know it is casual dining but really think starters should be brought out first , all 4 of us had almost finished our hot mains before a cold dish , Mozzarella Bruschetta, was brought out . The waitress said food just comes out as it comes but I think that is a bad idea as we all got our meals at different times and if that's how it will be I would only come for a main meal or pizza and that in turn means less revenue for The Imperial
Food for thought , apart from that food was delicious, great vibe and decor
👍👍👍👍
D.
Fun place with a rooftop bar and awesome atmosphere. 3 stars because if you need to get in touch with them they don't return calls and they don't respond to online messages.
J. P.
Yes yes yes!!! So good to see the girl back and better than ever. Everyone felt at home when we were here - me a 40 years old spinster, my 29 year old brother and the 20 year old he’s somehow picked up. Jealous of the bugger. The place is beautiful and clean but still has its kitschy charm about it. The bar staff and the DRAG QUEENS are warm and lovely. I’m in love with the place and as an ex-restaraunt and bar manager I just want to tell you well done on such a wonderful job at the Imperial!!!!
N. R.
THE place to see a drag show! I’d recommend my exact night out to the Imperial which went as follows; 8pm cocktail at Imperial Up, the new rooftop bar followed by a dinner reservation at 9pm in Prescilla’s. With my food on the table and a glass of sparkling in hand the show started. After a second glass, I paid up my bill and moved to the main floor bar for more cocktails and drag shows on the bar and stage. Around 11pm me and my newly made pal moved down to the basement club and enjoyed more drag shows and danced the night away. All cocktails were well made and the seafood ceviche was delish. All staff were very attentive and friendly giving very good service and were enjoying themselves too. I’m a solo traveler and the best night. Thank you team Imperial!!
J. B.
Love the Impy! The locals and the friendly staff make it one of the best. Check out the Trivia on Monday nights! 🥳🥳🥳
A. B.
We came for the nostalgia, but it was a stunning dinner experience. The drag queens are delightful, the staff were insanely charming (we had james and ffion) and the food was tasty + experimental.
Strongly recommend doing Drag n Dine and trying the Cauliflower.
C. B.
The Impi has had an impressive makeover. Upstairs for lunch on a weekend is so nice if you can find a place out of the sun. Umbrellas are needed so wear a hat but be warned, they have a stupid policy of taking bookings for tables and if there is a booking 3 hours away they won't let you use the table. This kills trade and profits and pisses off the customer but if you can find a table then sit and enjoy.
R. V.
Great night out! Insanely delicious food, superb cocktails (highly recommend the Miss 3D), fabulous entertainment and a great dance party at Retro Sweat! Will definitely be back!
N. N.
Mother's Day lunch was held here with a performance.
We pre-booked a table but when our quests arrived the reception sayed the booking was full ??
L. D.
Hands down friendliest pub in the Inner West. There's always something interesting going on, the music is ace and the patrons are friendly and fun-loving. So glad this place opened back up bigger and better than ever!!
J. S.
A lovely local bar/club that is welcoming of all type and offers something for everyone at all ages. However, the drinks are a little more then expected given it's a pub.
J. B.
So happy that they do family friendly queer vibes before 9pm. Was able to bring my 13 year old niece from interstate for a drag show and fancy dinner! Food was delightful.
R. I.
Extra sauce no chilli yum compliments to the chef
A. R.
Is it the old Imperial, No. Is it fabulous, Yes.
They have done a great job with the renovation it still has charm but has a modern feeling.
I didn't try the restaurant so can't comment but the venue itself was great. Looking forward to level 1 opening & seeing some amazing drag shows.
L. K.
Love this place! Always have such a great time. Connor downstairs was amazing last night, he made our night!!!
L. G.
The performance was amazingly fabulous!!! The food was nice but defs not worth $89 for some guacamole, a couple of ribs and a small dessert.
S.
This is my first time to Sydney,,& first time to the Imperial. Thursday 15th March, awesome food & atmosphere, and staff attentive & out of this world! Drag show-omg-simply fantastic! such a great experience. Attended your venue 3-17-2019,had a ball. Everyone so friendly. Thank you Imperial trip for enriching my trip. I will certainly be back in July. OKL, USA
E. C.
James has been amazing! Give that gorgeous beast a pay rise! 😍
J. M.
Staff always so friendly, bit of a wait on food because they’re so busy but absolutely worth it.
A. F.
Had an amazing night in the imperial last night! Really want to thank Ian the Irish guy!! He really looked after us and made us feel very comfortable 🙂 thank you Ian 🙂 Slaintè 🍺
T. H.
Yeah can be fun place. Security are really good but they seem to kick out people who are ok while so many drunks seem to be left alone? Bizarre! If security checked out the deunks on the dance floor there wouldnt be any one left. Guess there the real paying customers
J. G.
I organised a party for 9 people on Saturday dinner. Great atomsphere and heaps of fun.
Staff were great in particular Charlotte who was amazing in every aspect. She made awesome recommendations and was absolutely attentive to every request.
A.
Fun pub, bar, nightclub. Gay friendly!
Had some good drag shows and entertainment to enjoy on the main floor and below in the basement club.
Friendly bar staff and nice security staff.
K. W.
(edited to add a review properly)
Staff are lovely, really nice vibes, a good mix of all ages with the patrons and pretty delicious range of food (keep an eye out for the cauli and broc 'wings', they'll confuse you and change your life), and solid drink options.
L. D.
First ever drag show and did not disappoint went for the drag and dine food was amazing and performance even better. Staff very friendly and service was second to none.
K. C.
We ordered the chicken, wagu steak, and coconut celviche. Very generous portions and perfectly seasoned. Food was delicious and the staff very attentive. The lime tart and pinneapple cake were fantastic as well.
E. A.
The Christmas Drag Show was absolutely brilliant- great fun and a lot of laughs.
Food delicious- I’ve never had vegetarian dishes as tasty as these!
Highly recommend
G. T.
A must in Sydney. Pity that we could only see a couple of performances...and the food and service are amazing!
L. C.
The prices for drinks at this place are very reasonable, although it should be noted that it is a cash only bar. The live show that is performed during the night is definitely worth the $5 cover charge and I would definitely recommend catching a show while you're there.
J. M.
A pretty standard pub but the live music section was well organised
S. R.
Its got a good vibe. The new renovation is amazing. The atmosphere would change with DJ and crowd but is usually vibrant, pople drinking and dancing
N. B.
Great team, great environment, great food. Tidda bingo FTW!
C. G.
Hilarious Monday night trivia. Cheap happy hour beers and wine. Hit and miss $12 pasta. Beautiful decor.
G. C.
Have been to Priscilla's for meals a number of times but the food is not as good as it once was. Staff good but a little bored as it was quiet.
T. Z.
So nice since the revamp. There's 3 levels, the ground floor has a nice eatery and shows, the basement is a club and has TV show screenings sometimes and the top level is a bit more fancy.
C. W.
Beaut vegan eggplant schnitty with polenta chips. So good!
Friendly bar staff too 🙌🏼
J. L.
From Trivia Night to live bands to a game of pool and even Salsa Dance classes, for those standing under the colorful flag of pride this is an Iconic venue that has watched the unfolding of change and been the meeting place of such for many in the community for a generation. It doesnt matter what food they serve, it has a bar and many people will and still call this place home.
C. T.
The most amazing vegetarian/ vegan food. Friendly and comfortable environment with exceptionally good friendly customer service,. Can not recommend this highly enough I had a sensational mother’s day with the kids here. Thank you 💕
C. N.
Staff were so friendly and excited about all the events. The food was yum. The new renovations make it feel really inviting. I am looking forward to returning.
V. O.
Great 1/2 price pizzas on a Wednesday. so reasonably priced and they don't shy away from giving you a whole load of toppings. Great evening. Thanks you.
G.
This place was good. I enjoyed it and would go again. Was easy to find and a bit unique. Only thing I would improve is the toilets could be cleaner but besides that would definitely recommend going here
P. A.
Amazing makover..As good or better than any other pub in Sydney...Everything about the Imperial with the Chapel, Restuarant, bar and service is pure class...Definitely worth a visit or 10 !
...Now open Imperial UP...
DEFINITELY worth a visit or 20 !!
N. K.
A great time, great food! Ffion was a brilliant server, super lovely and great recommendations from the menu 😀
Hey Lucas here as well, she was amazing, the place and the food was absolutly awesome don't listen to the bad reviews they are not worth your time, you guys are great. Love youuuu
T. N.
Totally renovated since I last went, the new roof bar is super lovely. Good food and drinks, great service and atmosphere.
B. J.
Although only renovated 2 years ago, it has that tired feel.
But.... and it is a big BUT.... it is a very friendly place. Cool for a beer and a pool game.
I came to see the "Circus de SoGay" and it was fun the mixed songs were clever... although, as it was a new show it felt.... raw, green... but nothing that a few shows in front of the public will not fix.
Fun place.
J. R.
As locals we were skeptical about the reno's, fearing the Impy would lose her playful charm and turn into another Sydney gastro-pub run by a hospo conglomerate. However once reopened we were wowed with the makeover and love she is still as playful as ever! The food at Priscilla's is delish and the new UP might just steal the Bero's Sunday thunder! Big ups to the Impy fam we love visiting every week and now my mum actually makes me take her there when she's visiting Sydney. Now all we need is the wedding chapel to open - then maybe I can convince my two good friends who actually met on the dancefloor in the seedy old back room to get married back where it all began! <3 xx
T. P.
Was heaps of fun Saturday..although the DJ couldn't mix would just change the song.
J. B.
Brilliant, Amy at the bar was superb with mixing our cocktails. Would definitely recommend!
J. T.
Love this place. I was a regular in the early to mid 90's. Great drag shows. Refurbished over the years but still love the place, memories come flooding back as soon as I step in the door. Pool table in the front bar and drag shows out the back.
T. W. A.
Two words TOFU LAKSA, I keep coming back to eat more of this yummy dish, I would love if once I could get a table when is just two of us, as we always have to sit at the bar, no matter if I make a booking or not, and last time which was last week Friday there was a table for two empty the whole time :)
Other than that had a fab time, ate yummy food and had super friendly service from lovely Jeremy
A. G.
We had Mothers Day lunch here on Sunday. The venue is awesome, the service was excellent and the food was even better! We will absolutely be back!
P. A.
Great location and venue, but due to Covid restrictions, seated patronage and social distancing, a bit of the vibe has gone.. hopefully the vibe will come back soon.
R. M.
Went in with 4 friends on a Friday night and I was in love , the food he drinks the guest service I was living for it all !!! Made me think of Las Vegas . You guys are doing amazing thank you and will definitely be back . I know where I’m having my birthday now ❤️❤️❤️💋💋💋
B. S.
It's an institution. Everyone should see a show at the Imperial at least once. The dinner shows are surprisingly great value for money with great food.
L. C.
The Imperial is an institution in Sydney, love it more since the renovations. Pretty friendly crowd and the music on Friday night's goes off! Bingay on Tuesday night's is hilarious and loads of fun.
A. C.
The Imperial is a great place for fun with friends and to see a great Drag Show. It is off the beaten path, away from Oxford, The Cross, and King Street, but the travel is worth it. The shows on the weekends are great, and the the parties they have are pretty brilliant.
H. G.
Great atmosphere and a beautiful building, inside and out. The staff were friendly and the food was good! Would definitley come back here
K. S.
Love this pub - it offers daily drag queen shows. Lipsync on Sundays - there is always something on Plus food and drinks are excellent.
G. J.
However, planking is NOT permitted :'(
A. T.
Really love what they've done to this place. Food menu, Staff and Fitout are great. Good place for parties and for meeting people.
J. S.
Great venue to have drinks and food with friends and family. Great atmosphere with something to see around every corner. You won't be disappointed
A. S.
Great show and food. We had an amazing time and the service was fab. Dakota ❤😁
P. m. M.

K. H.
Very busy.. good crowd... nasty security..apparently i wasnt walking quickly enough for a rather power hungry security guy and he attempted to push me. Anyway i did an about turn and left so didnt get to eat or drink there unfortunately but i felt safer once i left.
E. R.
10/10 for service, food, dining & dinks
H. S.
Loved the service. Incredible bar tenders Charlie and Aimee! Had a great night ❤️
S. M.
The renovation has done wonders for the venue, it’s absolutely banging. Dined at the new restaurant in the back, not to bad. Operationally I reckon there are some kinks to work out though.
k. k.
Food was great as was the atmosphere and the drag shows were a bonus. So good to have somewhere to go on a monday night and be entertained.
G. P.
Wow, I just had dinner at the Impi and it was not your average pub fare... They had a delicious range of mostly vegetarian dishes and an amazing chilli brownie!
J. R.
Recommended by a friend so popped in for a couple of drinks, lovely relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff.
Hope to go back & try some food before we head back to the uk.
T. W.
Best bar in sydney! Great atmosphere and something on every night.
N. C.
Great venue for meeting new and old friends. Nice restaurant there too. Last of the genuine gay vibe pubs
D. P.
I'm so happy that my favourite bar in all of Sydney looks so amazing. Well done to the new owners. You saved her!!!!
a. c.
It's a great venue with an amazing atmosphere, the drag shows are top notch and the food is brilliant too! Would highly recommend!
A. T.
Drag and dine is super fun and the food is amazing (lots of veg and vegan options). Always good for a late night boogie ✨
A. R.
Very popular dance location. Friendly, IF CROWDED, areas. Did not eat. Fun to work off your dinner by raving away.
g. a.
Loved downstairs area 😻
W.
A great place for meeting friends, drinks, food, dancing and drag shows. It had a big renovation recently and they've done a fantastic job.
C. Z.
I didn’t get to see the drag here because it was a Monday but the saloon bar and upstairs outside terrace bar alone are fantastic.
H. R.
Had a great time. Staff were lovely. Especially Ryan with the mullet.
T. Z.
Fantastic food. The meat was fantastic. Very exciting vegetarian options too. All served by an enthusiastic and attentive crew
R. K.
LGBT friendly, many events, good selection of wine, nice interior!
k. m.
The dining experience was good. The table were just set-up by the stage. The service was great.
G. L.
The staff here are incredibly accomodating. Food and drinks are amazing and entertainment is incredible!
D.
I was there with my wife and my big brother and his partner ken and he told me it’s been done up and looks amazingly good now.We did not have a booking but my brother Malcom said it should not be busy at 6pm but omg it’s so busy and so much activity around everywhere so you know this place rocks like anything. We manage to get in but had to be out by 8.30 but no worries as we had to be at a concert at Enmore at 8 so was perfect for us.The staff at our table on Friday night were Daniel and Charlotte and absolutely were so bloody good at making us feel so dam special to be here ,it felt spiritual and I think I might of hugged Daniel so so sorry buddy but you were so good to us so good on you buddy.I will never hesitate to go here ever as you know already how good life can be when you walk in these doors xx
W. L.
Very nice bar, there's an interesting vibe here where everybody seems to be themselves. Good security keeping everything safe, great shows!
C. J. F.
Drag and Spag. God it was great
S. J.
The new improved Imperial is a great experience. The setting and the people . But also the drag shows and the pole dancers are all fabulous.
J. C.
Recently saw a Fringe Festival performance in the basement which was fantastic - Museum of the Fleas.
Lots of different spaces and a really happy vibe
T. H.
Wow! This place used to be the absolute bottom that you'd go only if no other possibilities but this has changed radically! They have redone it and opened up the back now it's bigger and nicer and we had lots of fun! Go check it out!!
C. L.
I have loved the Impy for a long long time. Nowadays the food is nice but overpriced and cocktails are inconsistent but the fun is still 5 stars.
A. “.
Although it being a Tuesday and quiet... this place is iconic.
B. S.
Great atmosphere and fun vibes but needs some better air con... was sweating bullets trhe while night definitely one to wear shorts too
O. O.
A bit of an institution in Sydney, since before its featuring in Pricilla Queen of the Desert. In that tradition it has loads of cabaret / drag shows and Bingay of Tuesdays too. You also get $3.50 schooners, wine and house spirits 3-7pm every day - noice!
J. B. P. A. 2. J.
Awesome night out! Great music and friendly atmosphere want but the best bit was watching Callum in the shows!
C. E.
Mmmmmmmmm yum. Just enjoy the smell if you want! Decent coffee but bloody good baked delights!
i.
Alot of fun, reno looks great, foods a little pricey but a great place to go and relax... And they do jugs of espresso martinis, say no more...
L.
Great show evening with great food. Drinks are coming a bit late.
B. S.
Best night out in Sydney at the moment. Great music, great vibe, great people. Check their Honcho Disko nights.
F. “. M.
Best place with great company and entertainment
R. C.
LGBTIQ institution in Erskineville. Get the garage if espresso martini 😍 also possibly the best decor of any venue I’ve been to outside of Palm Springs..
L. L.
I'll always return because the dj plays Azealia Banks everytime I'm there - this is how you built rapport with customers, enough said! ❤💃
E. M.
Great dinner, awesome staff and low key fun vibe. Can’t wait to return.. see you soon!
D. R.
Had a very fun night here. Great entertainment, staff and drinks!
C. J.
nice - but the crowd on the ground floor can be PAINFUL (think a lot of pushy het girls trying to get the perfect insta shot...)
A. H.
Fab experience as always. Great steak. Lovely staff.
M.
An icon of the queer scene where a fabulous time is guaranteed with talented performers!
T. C.
Fabulous food, friendly staff, super inclusive, great entertainment, and a wide variety of spaces. This place rocks.
