Absolutely delicious and delighted, your greeted in Japanese and your welcomed to enjoy a great atmosphere and great food.
D. M.
Absolutely amazing. We had tempura veg and the tempura Delux box with lobster tail. Everything was delicious and so fresh. 10/10
J. T.
Superlicious tempura. We had the set for 2 and it comes with rice, miso soup and pickled cucumber each.
J.
Karaage chicken was good. However I was quite disappointed to find a long black hair (definitely not mine) in my steak don dish. Wasn't able to simply request a replacement as I ordered delivery.
D. D.
Over priced for what you get and some of the food was just tasteless. Staff were friendly and attentive
F.
Very good dining experience, the service just like the food, very well balance. The only drawback the don is small for the price and the share platter is not worth the value. The lobster in the tempura is small, mushy and tasteless being imported product.
I. L.
Had a delicious rice bowl with beef (Gyudon)! Mouth watering shredded beef with the egg and ginger. Out of this world! Service wasn't bad. Waitress was kind and service was quick. Would definitely recommend this place for a nice Japanese dinner.
S. C.
We loved our 2 entree & 3 mains. The pork belly our least favourite.
Our waitress was fabulous, multitasking with takeaway.
We enjoyed our experience here. A bonus to use the Ent book app voucher.
E. I.
Aburi Salmon Don is absolutely fantastic, I wish ppl can try it out here! Especially the wasabi and the semi raw egg in the don are definitely a plus in this bowl!
Yakitori in here is also fascinated as the chicken thigh is huge, although the sauce is a bit salty but it’s worth trying!
Price is fine, a bit higher than average, but it’s a worth trying place!
S. K.
Came here on weekday dinner and weekend lunch. Dinner was busier but the food came within a reasonable time. Ordered ebi tempura don, soba and udon. The best tempura I've ever had. Crispy but tender. The size of the prawns were pretty big, so 5 serves of prawn tempura and few veggie tempura were more than enough for my Asian stomach. I sometimes have prawn allergies if it's not fresh, but I had none. Soba and udon were ok. Service was decent. Although the price can be expensive for a bowl of rice but it's worth to try.
M. L.
Beautiful tempura. The egg yolk was perfect. My husband loved all of the noodly things.... And he is a noodle man. Apparently the dipping sauce was really good. It is a very popular place and the seating is limited so best to arrive early or book ahead.
A. C.
Cost and very clean restaurant. Great value for what you get and the quality of the food is top notch. It’s a bit noisy and the staff a little busy to be too attentive. Will be back, had a good meal.
N. C.
Very nice quality ingredients and great food. Enjoyed an array of dishes including miso soup, karaage chicken, takoyaki and steak. All were very nicely done. Thank you
L. M.
The best Japanese salmon rice dish I've ever had so far! Highly recommend! Each bite so good and the smokey taste of flavour! 😋😋😋😋😋👌 Would come here again and again! 10/10

An authentic Japanese restaurant focused on bringin you the best tempura in town. The best tempura in Adelaide used to be in the old Hyatt now Intercontinental on North Tce. Those days are long gone as it now focuses on teppanyaki only. In any case the decor here is smick and everything is just about served to you fresh. The rice in the donburi was hot and the tempura light and crispy. Price wise not overly expensive but perhaps they can work on the way they serve the Onsen Egg. We had the Kitsune Udon and the Asakura Tendon. Its not really a drive to location but perhaps after work 5 - 6pm its good for light dinner before a movie or lunch if you're already in the city. Another good import to Adelaide from Japan. Ittadakimasu!
L. B.
Popped in for lunch on a Saturday, quality was pretty decent, and it came out quickly, however I'm sure they have better items on the menu, I will most likely update my review once I've tried their tempura. All in all, pretty decent.
E. C.
Fantastic - cheap & cheerful. Fresh and Authentic. Very nice staff, quick service.

Akimitsu Australia in Henley Street is the pioneer Japanese Franchised Eatery in Australia. Desmond and his Partner Sandra are the Co-Founders of the Australia sector.
Dinner was amazing! Congrats to Desmond! Special mentioning their Gyoza, Tempura batter in general and the most of all Aburi King Fish, Love them. The balancing the the favour is on point. The batter is light and fluffy and not oily at all. Well balanced! The perfection in the Aburi King Fish preparation is top knot. Cleanliness is superb. Service is wonderful! Garnishing is well dressed. Nothing more I can say, except “Amazine”. I would even give an International Standard of a 3 Stars Restaurant. 👍
T. C.
Great quality produce. The tempura is as good as they claim. We had prawns that were delicious and sweet, light crispy batter. The vegetables had lovely flavour and great seasoning as did the prawns. We also had pork gyōzas that were juicy and full of flavour. The karage chicken used Thigh meat so very moist with crisp coating. Loved it all. Bookings recommended as it can get very full but people move quickly. Good noise level so you can talk. Really worth a visit.
J. C.
Every dish was amazing but it’s just a bit pricy.
e.
Amazing food, the best tempura I’ve ever had. Very reasonably priced and the service A+
J. S.
Honestly so delicious!! Loved the Unadon. Didn't manage to snap the chicken yakitori skewers because they were devoured instantly. Pictured: lobster tempura, Unadon, beef krokkettes(spelling?)
C. P.
Tempura is lightly wrapped in crispy batter. Generally tasty food with prompt and friendly table service.
Edit : 201907
Visited again in winter. Food did not disappoint. Oyakudon a surefire comfort food. Yakitori was smokey and not greasy. Yum.
Service was prompt and friendly.
E. Y.
Nice environment. Fantastic tempuras, worth the price. Queue can be long. Staffs are good too. One of the better new Japanese restaurants in Adelaide now.
K. M.
This place has recently opened a short stroll from my workplace and had quickly become a favourite. A tasty selection of tempura dishes, although my favourite is the Karaage Don. The service is also really great - friendly staff and prompt service. Highly recommended.
S. G.
Authentic Japanese Tempura. The tempura is excellent. The udon soup is very delicious. I have eaten udon and tempura in many Japanese restaurants. This one is definitely among the best.
J. B.
Chashu Don and Gyoza Pork. I could not resist the Gyoza so it's missing already some bits 🤤. Looking forward for the next visit.
Went again - 5th time, looking to enjoy a good dinner. Ordered entrée and Steak Don. First I have received the main dish after waiting around 20 minutes. Steak Don. 6 minutes after finishing it they brought me my entrée. The waitress just dropped it on the table and ran away pretending to be really busy without any apology. My colleagues order arrived 11 minutes after I finished eating. Anyone that arrived after us received their food sooner than my colleague.
So if you get greeted by a nice smiling guy, you are lucky. Order from him and everything should be fine(first 4 visits) , if greeted by a young lady without a smile I would go eat somewhere else. Of course my personal opinion and point of view.
Changing from 5 stars to 3. Food was 5 star - awesome, service 0 stars.
L. G.
We had a delicious experience, thank you for setting up shop in Adelaide! We tried the yakitori, karaage, korokke beef, Akimitsu deluxe ten-don and the lobster ten-don. Everything was super delicious, and it is some of the best tempura we've ever had. Hands down best in Adelaide. Brought back memories of our visit to Japan when we had ten-don for the first time. The menu is full of mouthwatering pictures to help you choose what to get. The selection of donburi also look delicious, they'll be next on our list to try!
T. T.
I love this place. The food is fresh and very tasty. Very reasonably priced too.
K. L.
Delicious food, just a bit pricey for the portion size.
Q. W.
We’ve ordered miso tofu noodle, it’s really not my taste. Very light flavour and the food tasted not fresh for some reasons. The lady ignored us a few times and waitress was chatting while we are asking for ordering.
T. T.
Walked in without knowing what to expect. Order few things and no regret at all. Love the tempura meal and it was the best in winter time. Love the staff and ambient. Not too crowded.
V.
One of the best Japanese food you can find in Adelaide. I've been to Japan before and have a lot of experience with the cuisine. Eating the food here at Akimitsu really takes me back there. The flavours here are incredibly authentic, refined, and delicious. I saw a lot of reviews saying the menu was pricey, but I feel like those complaints do this restaurant a bit of injustice. The food is very much worth the price and you can tell a lot of care has been taken with it. I've seen other places charge much more for lower quality products. The portions may seem small at first, but they're surprisingly filling if you take your time to enjoy the food, and I'm saying this as a big eater. Extremely high quality food -- underrated business.
N. T.
Great little restaurant, reasonably priced, fast service and good quality tasting food...will be back
J. C. C.
Fast and friendly service the food is tasty and the size of the dishes were enough. Definitely we will back!
K. N.
Delicious food and the eggs are PERFECT!! A generous amount of food for the price.
M. C.
A great addition to the Japanese restaurants of Adelaide. Good service, good variety on the menu and delicious
R. S.
Amazing tempura! We had the seafood tempura set for 2. The family and I enjoyed it so much with juicy fish and lobster a d sweet vegetables. Definite would visit again with the family.
T. L. R.
Wowza! I grabbed some takeaway from here on the recommendation of a friend. The food was not only sensational, but the staff were amazing. They were friendly, professional and extremely helpful in selecting just the right amount of food and right type of food for my tastes. I'm not overly familiar with Japanese cuisine so their recommendations were very welcomed and spot-on. The venue itself is pristine and comfortable. I'm looking forward to going back there again.
s.
Good quality food.. Friendly staff. Nice atmosphere
K. T.
Went there for early dinner. Ordered assorted tempuras are yummy but a bit pricey. It would be great if they can add a little bit more. Beef Donburi are too gluggy. It’s too much beef sauce at the bottom. Service are fine. When i wanna order, staff would always be there. Place for 2 people.
R. L.
I actually enjoy coming to Akimitsu for some katsu curry and tempura. Of course it does not meaure to the ones you get from Japan but due to lack of variety this is not too bad to come to. Food is flavourful, the restaurant is clean and staff are friendly. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the food is tiny bit pricy for the type of food you order since it is not considered fine dinning. You can get away with just ordering one main dish per person but if you are really hungry order the karage chicken, it is good.
M. M.
Excellent food. Knowledgable staff. Good service. Reasonable prices. Will return.
_.
I had no expectations of this joint when I rocked up but it's actually cracked ngl.
This is the closest I've been to fine dining in 5 years. Just to clarify that is a compliment, this place is amazing.
M. K.
I went in with high expectations seeing the Akimitsu name. As I can't travel to Japan now, I was expecting something of high quality.
Unfortunately it was not so. The tempura was still tasty and crispy. But the quality is about the same grade as other cheaper eateries like Mappen in Sydney. Some pieces have been burnt with charred mark on it with is not acceptable for a high end Japanese tempura.
The rice was also not cooked well. Probably from normal rice cooker as some bits are clumped together with too much water with consistency of congee.
If it was $10 I would give it a 5 star but at $31.50 (I ordered the lobster tendon) it's a bit pricey
A. H.
The staff were very polite and helpful, so off to a good start as soon as we entered. The food was fresh and cooked to perfection; a good good selection of Sake (with notes about the different brands and types), as well as Japanese standard and craft beers. With very reasonable prices, clean and modern decor, an open kitchen so you can watch the chefs work their magic, you can't go wrong!
J. R.
It was excellent. I didn't expect to be so impressed and so am delighted to rate them so highly. We really enjoyed the meal. It might be a "tempura" restaurant but there was plenty for my vegetarian partner and the seafood variety was laudable . The entre steak a standout. Really good especially considering the reasonable prices.
Very acceptable range of Saki.
S. W. m.
Very Japanese test and all we order are pretty good. The price is very friendly💓💓💓
N. G. B.
Look delicious and taste good. May visit again.
M. C.
Akimitsu was a great find as I was wandering down towards Rundle Mall. Great food options, high quality food, courteous staff and fast service. Can highly recommend if you are up for ordering a few different dishes to get a good scope of the menu. Dishes aren't very big but pricing is totally reasonable, you should order a few side dishes.
L. C.
Loved it here! The food was so good and generous portions. Our waiter, Mason, was also amazing and really helpful. We will definitely be back!
J. S.
This was the cutest cafe I've ever been to. With its pink and florally decor and swing chairs! We just had herbal teas because it was late in the evening. But such a great atmosphere with good back ground music.
K. T.
Great little place but seem to be still finding their feet. Expect different meals to be served at different times on the same table. At our lunch the first person served had finished and left before the last person got their meal - which is really nice food though. One entree they keep stuffing up is the steak... It's not cut all the way through so you get three pieces instead of one when eating with chopsticks. The have knives and forks for those who can't use chopsticks. Am sure in time this will be THE place to go for lunch or dinner.
J. Z.
Nice food, tastes great. I had the beef and rice but I think I should've had tempura because that was what most of the items on the menu was. My beef and rice and salmon miso soup was very enjoyable. Definitely will return
D.
Tried salmon don, tastes gorgeous, quick service. The downside however is too much rice in comparison to the portion of salmon. There were 7-8 very thin pieces of salmon on the top and the rest 3/4 of the bowel was filled with rice. It’s hardly worth $20.
方.
steak don just fine, salmon miso soup is not too bad
u. c. a. D. D. (. A.
Good portion size & tasty food ) A+
Take away (not dine in)
M. W.
Wanting to try here for some time,But when I did Was quite disappointed. This is A restaurant ran by Chinese chefs making Japanese style food,All good, but I didn't find it authentic at all,and it was expensive for what it was. There are much better authentic Japanese bars,Izakayas ,like EN,or Nishiki.I doubt I'd return here
K. K.
These are true Japanese flavours with very well done tempura in the staring role. The tempura batter is perfectly light and crispy and comes out without an oily finish. Some flavours, like the prawn, are straight out of Japan and others have a lovely Australian-fusion inspiration. The salmon was a nice example. As a starter I highly recommend the agedashi tofu -- the best serve of this dish I've had in Adelaide.
J. F.
Awesome food, reasonable prices, family friendly, great service.
S. G.
Delicious, light and fresh Tempura and Don dishes
D. S.
Delicious. I had the Agedashi Tofu, Karage, and Porterhouse stake, all entrees. The karage was lightly battered, over a small amount of greens and good mayo. The Agedashi Tofu was served with Bonito shavings and had a good broth. The Porterhouse Steak had an amazing, slightly spicy accent to each piece! Overall i was very happy. Good for solo diners and groups.
J. C.
It takes years for them to get your order ready. We walked in at 7 pm and the first dish was served at 7.35. Interestingly, the one who walked in around 7.20 get everything she ordered by 7.30.... food is okay but the service is poor. Only one Japanese in this restaurant while other staffs are Chinese and Malaysian.
T. T.
Delicious food
M. L.
Finally, the first dedicated 天ぷら屋 in Adelaide. Dropped in for a quiet Sunday afternoon lunch and was one of 2 customers for the day. Hence, attention to service was very prompt. The front deco is reminiscent of a Kyoto Machiya with wooden slates for some privacy and the business’ Mon emblem draped across the shop front.
As the dining partner and myself does not like Shiitake, the restaurant was kind enough to accommodate our request to switch the mushroom for another vegetable of the chef’s choice.
We had ten-don and unfortunately, the rice used did not appear to be Japanese but were jasmine / long grain; but otherwise - the tempura ingredients was crunchy and flavourful, marks down for the rice used.
Would definitely return, but the business should take note with the rice used.
D. C.
Went in for lunch today with a colleague and were quickly greeted and seated by the friendly staff
Food and service is great. I understand it's a tempura resteraunt but my suggestion as to what would top it off is some really fresh sashimi and sushi starters to compliment the tempura mains.
Will be visiting again soon definately
T. K.
Amazing vegetarian options!! Love this place
S. M.
The waiter and chefs said “ Irasshaimase ( means Hello, Welcome ) “ when we entered the restaurant but their voices and attitudes didn’t sound enthusiastic
It sounded like “ Oh, customers have already come? We have just opened. We haven’t finished the opening procedures “
The speed which the dishes we ordered were served was good
There wasn’t hand soap at the toilet
I really don’t know why they choose a green bean and zucchini for vegetable tempura
They should be asparagus and eggplant
Price was acceptable
The black sesame gelato didn’t have its own flavour
M. V.
The best tasting Japanese food I have eaten in Adelaide so far. I had the deluxe Tendon and it was fantastic. Definitely will be going back.
C.
This place has the best food! I don't get down to Adelaide very often but when I do I always make sure to come here!
E. A.
Akimitsu deluxe tendon was delicious, crispy tempura and fresh seafood. Karage was also nice a juicy! Efficient and good service. Nice to finally have a casual Japanese restaurant like this in Adelaide :)
R. H.
Very friendly service and lovely food. They have good vegetarian options which was nice too. Great atmosphere for a light meal or full dinner. Reasonable pricing too.
I. R.
I cannot recommend the salmon enough at this place. Been twice and each time the food has been amazing.
J. P.
I Love the food.. the Tempura is so finely done.. everything I've tried is top dish and nicely plated too.
L. A. W.
Food tastes alright, but the price is not worth it, I order a pork rice and there is only 3 little thin meat, and it costs 17
G. N.
We don't partake of Japanese cuisine often, but Akimitsu staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our selections and even had dessert.
J. S.
Food here is great and the staff are nice as well. Just the other day, they gave me an extra serving because they felt that they gave me a small piece on my original order.
S. S.
Amazing food
Great location
A.
Polite service. Place was full but they offered us a private table which was ok. Food average but reasonably priced. Would go back to try other menu items.
C. W.
The food was delicious, the atmosphere great and the staff friendly and it would have been 5 🌟but the food took a while to come out (which they humbly apologized for). Will come again next time I am in Adelaide.
L.
Amazing food, absolutely love their Karaage Don and the Ebi Tempura Don. Really nice atmosphere in the restaurant too, casual enough at lunch time and nice enough for a more formal dinner as well.
M. B.
Everything was delicious and very quick to come out. Very well presented and family friendly everyone from my 1 1/2 yr old son the my father in law loved it
A. S.
Food is excellent and some of the best tempura I've had outside of Japan!
M. P.
Really delicious food!! The tempura was perfect, could eat this everyday!
V. G.
Best Japanese rice bowl in town. I reckon the salmon don and steak don. The unagi don is good as well

I. A.
awesome place, very japanese menu some exotic dishes I never seen, nice interiors and friendly service good for lunch and informal dinner.
V.
I recommend the aburi salmon don, delicious flavours. Karaage don had generous serves of chicken, very juicy and cooked well
C. W.
Food is fine. But they have 10% surcharge on Sundays and public holidays, and 1% surcharge if you pay by card
B. H.
Steak don cooked well, but sauce is a bit salty and not really good with the steak in my opinion
O. M.
Really tasty! ✅✅
P. F.
Delicate flavours never disappointed
R. H.
Get the barramundi tempura, skip the lobster. Excellent miso soup and the seared beef and chicken skewers are great.
B. s.
Good food but not anymore thw portion and the prawn became smaller and the service is not good as before.
Q.
The food was amazing and so delicious, the staff were so nice and friendly and the restaurant was such good quality!
