Comments of Ky Chow

Food was very tasty! Much better than expected. All dishes came out fast and well presented. Easily recommend to those who have an open mind to try a restaurant outside of their comfort zone.
B. A.
I have been coming here for years! As always, the food was delicious, fresh and good serves. Went tonight and they were busy but service was amazing and food came out hot and quickly!
Must try the salt and pepper squid with fried garlic and the hawthorne ribs, so good!
N. N.
Went in for dinner without a booking. Seated quickly and service was friendly. We had the crispy duck wraps, honey chicken and scallion pancakes. The wraps were delicious and hearty. The honey chicken had a good ratio of chicken and batter, rarely seen at other Chinese restaurants. Lastly the scallion pancakes were not oily and very flavourful. Definitely recommend!
T. M.
Great food, amazing price for a celebratory dinner.
We had salt and pepper squid, the crispy sweet and sour beef, and the Hawthorn berry ribs, all amazing.
D. M.
I have been to Ky Chow many times over the years and the consistency and quality of the food is always perfect. I recommend starting with the shallot pancakes! Their crispy honey chicken is always a staple for me.
A. V.
Had a great experience at Ky Chow on Saturday night. A fantastic option for when you have that craving for those western Chinese classics like sweet and pork, and Mongolian beef. Great service too which was a plus as some other Chinese places lack in that department. Food came out quick and was delicious, definitely recommend!

Came here on Saturday night and it was packed but managed to get a table after 15 mins of waiting. They have indoor and outdoor sitting. Food came pretty quick which is great. Ordered the duck (forgot the name of the dish but it was under recommended section), salt and pepper squid. The best squid ever. The batter is crunchy but the squid is so tender. Duck is a little bit too salty for my taste but the meat is very tender. Overall, it's great food and reasonably priced. Staffs are helpful and quick to serve. Perfect for family dinner.
K. A.
Came here today with my husband and another 2 friends. Food were all tasty and delicious My favorite was the duck fried crackling. I ordered scallops soup but did not see any scallops only saw shrimps. Service was good and quick. Though they seems do not really interact with the customers no one ask us if everything was okay. We did not find difficuly in looking for parking. Price was reasonable, for 4 people it was 30 each.
m.
Food taste amazing, I can honestly say it's one of the best chinese restaurants around the area in my opinion. But the serving sizes are so small now it's beyond ridiculous. I know you have to make money, but please try and be fair to the customer.
D. W.
Ky Chow is our go-to place on Gouger Street. The Spring Onion pancakes are brilliant, as is the satay chicken and the honey chicken. Staff are nice and the place is comfortable. Two thumbs up 😉
L. B.
Make sure you enter with an empty stomach because the serving sizes are huge! All the meals were delicious. If you like spicy chicken it is a must but if your ability to handle chilli is low you may just want to pinch a bite from a friend! Great atmosphere and the waiting staff were accomodating. Downside was no where to dry hands when washing hands in toilet.
D. H.
Very nice meal. Stayed in Adelaide for a few days and happened to stumble past this place, we read a few reviews so decided to give it a try. We weren't disappointed at all, very nice meal and reasonably priced, would 100% recommend.
M. J.
Solid Chinese cuisine found on gouger among other top places to dine, this spot definitely sings a unique tune in the way of flavour and service. Sure to please just about anyone looking to wet the whistle with divine Chinese flavours!!
R. K.
Good range of food and noce attentive service. The crispy beef and sizzling mongolian lamb are both favourites
S. C.
Prime location . Great Food. Nice ambiance. Good staff. Quick service . Good pricing. Parking can be an issue. Great sitting space.
A. N.
Everybody loves Ky Chow hey. Asian people. White people. Other people in between.
For good reason too. If you’re after quality Chinese food then you need to eat here. They’re a decent sized restaurant with a fair amount of tables but I’d recommend booking a table to avoid disappointment. My favourite dishes are the crispy beef and shallot pancakes. There’s so much to choose from and it’s all pretty good and quite consistent
I.
Been coming here since I was a child, as an adult it still holds up as being a great restaurant! Staff are friendly, food is amazing! Just make sure you book early so you don't get the dinner rush of people since it tends to get very loud with everyone talking.
J. P.
The food was good. Lots of choice. Good service reasonable prices. Will return.
P. M.
Highly recommend the Shun Tung Chicken (A4 on the menu)
A.
Perfect. Great food. Great service. Will be back 100%.
F. Q.
Great price ,tasting gooood and clean, shandong chicken pretty crispy and fried rice as good level. All good, definitely back again.
C. C.
The chicken had a lot of bones and I ate the bones and the bones went cronch and my teeth hurted ;(
W. S.
Ate at Ky Chow for the first time last night. Staff were polite & efficient, and the food was OUTSTANDING. We had honey chicken, sizzling Mongolian beef and special fried rice. All were fresh & so tasty. We will definitely be back!
M. S.
I felt welcomed and the food was yummy.

I come here frequently with my kids. The owners are a lovely family, food is consistently great and affordable. Everything on the chefs recommendation list is excellent, especially the crispy beef, shantung chicken, string beans. Thanks guys
J. E.
My absolute favourite Chinese restaurant!! The food is amazing and so is the atmosphere! The staff are so attentive and friendly.
꧁. M.
Crispy beef is to die for. However, after multiple visits, our last one was less than enjoyable. Had ordered both the crispy chicken and the crispy beef. It took so long to cook and undoubtedly was left and forgotten about on the bench out back, that when they finally DID arrive, neither was warm nor crispy. They took both back, heated them up, and brought them back, hot - but still - not "crispy".
Very disappointed.
Servings are sometimes small. We often joke about stopping off at McDonalds on the way home.
They also make errors when calculating the bill. Always end up paying more. Is this a tactic? It always happens. Most people are too nervous to speak up.
L. S.
Very friendly service. The store front manger was 👍🏻 The flavour profile is slightly westernised. We will come back.
D. R.
Always a great feed friendly service reasonably priced
K. F.
Delicious food, fast service and very proficient staff, however the efficiency of the staff clearing the table at the end of the meals does make it feel as though you are being asked to leave.
Had a booking for 7pm, ordered at 7.20, food was all served by 7.35 (7 ppl), table was completely cleared by 8.20pm.
J. E.
This is a regular haunt for me to get great food. Prices are good value for the quality of the food. Best to take a group of people with you so can order several mains and share amongst yourselves. Similar restaurants can't compete with value or taste. Food comes out fast and the beers are large. What more could you ask for
P. M.
Very good. Crazy dude who told me that Australia was a communist hologram was a little interesting, but didn't affect the quality of the food.
J. C.
The food we ordered arrived at different times, entree came last and the main dish first. The fried rice was also served a bit cold. There are times when the service was fast and food was great but at times needs improvement.
J. F.
Went on a Friday night very popular place. I didn't make a booking but still found me a table.
Service was quick and friendly.
I we ordered fried buns, shallot cakes, chicken satay, as entrees and ginger beef and fried rice for mains.
The buns and ginger cabbage beef were the first dish to come out, within minutes, which I found strange for the main to come out before the entrees, also made questioned the freshness of the dish. This shortly followed by the fried rice and satay.
The buns were nice and crispy. The beef had good flavour and was tender, loved the cabbage on the dish thumbs up. The rice was bland and was one of the least flavoursome fried rices I have ever tasted. The satays were deep fried first time I have had a deep fried satay not horrible but not the greatest. The shallot cakes came towards the end of the meal, I almost even forgot I ordered them, they had a lot shallot in them and one of the best shallot cakes I have tasted but the fact they came towards the end of my meal was a let down, as it was an entree. Overall wasn't a bad experience but wasn't a wow experience either
P. S.
Very nice atmosphere. Food is excellent. Service is good and quick. Prices are reasonable. Looks like it gets busy alot. Loved it.
T. C.
The good: well not much to be honest. Hence 3 stars. Food came out fast I guess. Nothing to recommend a visit.
The OK: food was middling Australian style Chinese (not real Chinese style). Even for Aussie style could be better.
The bad: nothing stood out.
I won’t bother to return. Go find something better. Even in Adelaide.
V. B.
Great food. Service & staff were good. If you want a quick bite, good food that's the place to go. You don't have to wait too long for the food to be served. Definitely recommended.
K. D.
This place is great, the staff are so friendly and welcoming. If you are a honey chicken lover this place is well worth a try! It’s different but amazing.
Definitely a go to place for me. Would highly recommend.
D. T.
Excellent service as usual and delicious food and all 3 out of 3 of us all gave thumbs up to returning soon. Highly recommended.
L. B.
A great spot to enjoy a Chinese meal. They’re open late most nights too! The string bean Peking style with pork mince and sweet and sour beef are both delicious and our staples.; with some steamed rice and couple of beers or ciders you’ll have a great meal.
B. (.
I'm a regular & Ky Chow and it's always good. Always friendly, always accommodating and usually quick. Most importantly their dishes are fresh and delicious, never greasy or oily and they do the best Shallot pancake!
P. n.
Consistently good quality and reasonably priced chinese food. Friendly staff and well situated in Chinatown, I have been here on several occasions and will continue to do so.
T.
Great food!!! Lunch deals are awesome, specially the curry chicken rice...
Kung Pao chicken is really good too. Nice to place to have a quick team lunch. Tried crispy spicy chicken as well. It was so spicy and hot, but loved it. They present the dish nicely. Spicy chicken dish was garnished with rated peanuts and some Green Capsicum.
M. T.
Entrance is wheelchair accessible, but staff need training in disability awareness, their table they sat us at, was at the back & most difficult. Despite booking & making them aware of our needs. Food beautiful but customer service 👎
D. K.
Consistency, freshness and flavour! This is what Ky Chow delivers. Don't expect waiters/waitresses to be smiling from a nitrous high though! They get their job done but most of them aren't warm or friendly. But I don't come here repeatedly (at least twice a week) for the service, I come for the food. And the food is awesome!
Recommend: crispy skin duck, salt and pepper squid, chicken with special spicy sauce, broad bean curd.
E. C.
One of the nicest restaurants in Gouger Street. Food is always very nice.
If you can turn a blind eye to the customer service, you will love it! We keep going back, have been going for a long time. Definatenely WORTH a visit!
D. D.
Very nice food here also have good prices and in a good location bit noisy on the inside need something to take the noise out. But will be back soon. But when ordering spicy or chilli food tell them you want it hotter as its never that hot
S. D.
Food is usually very good but tonight the fried rice was cold and we are still waiting on the garlic prawns which have obviously been forgotten. I asked about them 10 minutes ago and no response. All the other meals are finished so we will now forgo the prawns.
K. G.
Fantastic food with great choice. Their vegetarian fried rice was amazing. They are very fair with their prices. Great place to go with family or friends
A.
Been eating at Ky Chow for 15yrs. One of Gouger St’s best Chinese (modern Schezuan cuisine) restaurants. Manager, Raymond , is there every night and an absolute gentleman. Staff are excellent with very low turnover. If you’re new, try the chef’s specials. Our favourites are the sweet and crunchy beef (with a hint of chilli), amazingly moist and tender crispy skin duck, and the soy and coriander Shan-Tung chicken. With all the rice you can eat and free, chilled table water there’s no ‘profitering’ and the surroundings are chic and modern. Couldn’t recommend Ky Chow highly enough!
A. B.
Fast friendly service, the food was varied and tasty with good sized portions. Crispy skin chicken was very nice. Located in gouger St and close to Chinatown and central market. Very clean place.
M. P.
This place has the best menu and the best crispy skin duck in adelaide. Also the honey king prawns are the bomb.
B. A.
The food is unbelievable! one of my favorite restaurants in Adelaide, the food is authentic and so tasty, I would definitely recommend this place, I have been going here for over 20 years :)
M. P.
Salt & Pepper Quails you have to try. Great taste and good price but some menu is so oily specially stir fried dish and serving staffs are not listening. Otherwise I would give a 5 stars rate.
A. N. G.
Great spot for rough-and-ready Chinese food - especially good for a late-night feed, with a larger group, or a quick meal between events. Food is pretty good, they offer BYO, service is quick, staff work hard to accommodate you.
D. s.
Some of the best Chinese food out there, service is very prompt and friendly. My personal favourite dish is the Crispy duck.
S. K.
Great food and service. Often have lunch here. Their food taste so fresh and tasty. The staff are friendly and always welcoming.

Ok, I think there is too much focus on fried everything and tailored to the local market. Chicken and ginger dish and Peking duck pancakes fantastic.
P. L.
Simple but authentic. Loved the Beef Belly Hotpot.
J. L.
Yummy as food, service was fast 😊

Consistency, freshness and flavour! This is what Ky Chow delivers. Don't expect waiters/waitresses to be smiling from a nitrous high though! They get their job done but most of them aren't warm or friendly. But I don't come here repeatedly …

Sweet and sour pork was delicious. The lemon chicken hardly had any sauce but still nice

great place. we tried 4 other Chinese restaurants before we got here. after going through not being served, filthy kitchens and annoying humming noises, we came across this haven. fast service, great food, clean place.
M. W.
Without a doubt this is the premier Chinese restaurant on all of gouger st its inexpensive but the food is to die for
The soups will linger in your mouth
The dishes done perfectly
The service second to none
An absolutely must eat place to go when in adelaide
C.
Good consistent food. Always. Service all over the place, most of the time. Entree 20 minutes after the main. 🤔

(Translated) Very satisfied. We came to travel from Melbourne. Ran into this restaurant at random. "The price is good and the quantity is sufficient." The roasted tofu with north mushroom is the best I have ever tasted. highly recommended. If you have to talk about the shortcomings, I think the whole is a bit salty, but because my taste is very light, this may not be a problem.

(Translated) The front desk manager was very nice, and the product was very good, especially the "crispy cow" I ordered twice each time, it was so delicious and the price was even more popular.

前台经理很nice,出品非常好,特别是那道“脆牛”我每次都点两份,太好吃了,价格更是大众化。
