Comments of Thanh Thanh Vietnamese Restaurant
C. S.
This place is a must try for good Vietnamese food. On entry the vibe and aesthetic was very cute, it is a clean establishment. The staff were very friendly. Also the service was super fast! I didn’t expect that but I was very impressed. You could taste the freshness of the food and the quality of the ingredients. I like that there were different sauces available at each table so you could add anything you wanted to your dish. I also though that the fish tank at the back was super cute! The pricing wasn’t bad and the serving sizes were quite generous. I highly recommend coming here, you will not be disappointed. Dine in and takeaway options available.
R.
The food was really good and great value for the price. Clean place with friendly staff members.
Will be great if the restaurant can have a bit more staff members during busy time because the food is awesome and it definitely attracts lots of people.
Overall really good experience. Will come back soon.
J. H.
We ordered 6 dishes as a table and most were great - awesome chicken fried rice, awesome rice and pork combo, awesome chicken stir fry thing that I can't quite remember the name of. The only disappointment was the noodle bowl with pork crackling. We usually order from Soonta and always enjoy their version, but the pork was more chewy and the dressing not quite as good. Overall though a tasty experience.

Very decent, typical Vietnamese cafe fare, good presentation with generous servings. Had the (small) combination rice and was pretty full afterwards. Price is fair, consistent with other Viet places in town. Restaurant itself is very ordinary looking with half of the restaurant seemingly unfinished and used as a store room. If you only care about the food though, none of this should matter to you.
M. L.
Loving it. Ordered a "traditional wrap your own roll meal" and a Vietnamese coffee with and a cup of ice. You can pour into the cup of ice or drink it straight. Beware of the hot bowl of water. It is meant to soften the rice wrappings. Dont soak it for too long.
Thanking the waitress for letting me know not to order another meal. I didnt know that having the "traditional wrap your own meal combination version" could make you really full. Haha.
Overall, nice ambience and kind waitresses. Haha.
T. W.
Lovely staff, great restaurant and amazing food. They can make a lot of options vegan and the food is incredible. I had the roll your own cold rolls with lemongrass tofu and an entree of salt and pepper tofu. Prices are great. Definitely recommend.

Pho. I'm always searching, looking for that elusive best examples of this Vietnamese treasure. Breakfast of champions, lunch of legends, dinner of ... ? You get my drift.
Anyhow, tucked away on a side street just nearby the central markets is a nondescript restaurant. That's a good sign. Aquarium at the back, I scan the menu briefly happy to see Bun Rieu as a recommended special. Tempted to get this Crab 🦀 and tomato 🍅 noodle soup offering as good ones are so good and hard to find, but like I said before, I'm here for the Combination Pho.
All the proper condiments offered, plenty of bean sprouts and basil, coriander and fresh chilli. The stock, the quintessential element of a good Pho is flavoursome and complex. There is an abundance of ingredients, generous rare beef slices and many noodles. Filling and delicious. Easily one of the best Pho I've had in the city.
Only dropped a star because the music was way too loud, even with my noise cancelling headphones on. Didn't help that I was plonked right under the speaker, but I doubt being anywhere else would have made a difference - it was that loud.
Will return to try that Bun Rieu! 🍜
E. K.
Top notch pho and bun bo hue. One of the best in Adelaide. Great balance of flavours in the broth.
J. W.
I had a few meals here before over the years. Last week I went there again with my mum and we ordered spring rolls (southern styles), and we both had pho. The beef was a bit thick and hard to chew. Not much vegetables given (been sprouts and herbs). The flavour was OK, serve was good. I had a large one and it was a lot for me after I had the spring rolls. To be honest, the pho is not very nice this time compared to the ones I had before in here.
D. M.
We had a lovely dinner at Thanh Thanh after having a few beers and stumbling across it on the way back to the hotel. Friendly service and the pho stock was perfect - right balance of meatiness and saltiness - delish!
S. a. J. R.
The beef Pho was fantastic! The broth was done properly and the noodle was so soft and almost melted in your mouth. It has been a long while since I have had a Pho this good.
M. M.
A really good Vietnamese restaurant tucked out of the way off of Gouger Street. It has a good varied menu at very reasonable prices. Some of the nicest salt and pepper squid and some of the best Phở in Adelaide. It comes in three sizes (small $12, large $14 and extra large $16). Well worth a visit for lunch or dinner.
N.
One of the best Vietnamese food place I would go when I visit Adelaide. High quality pho with decent price. The chicken satay skewers were highly recommended as they put a lot of satay sauce on it instead of giving you just a dipping sauce plate. Staff was okay but the serving time was quick.
A. K.
I’ve been here three times now and for the value for money and quality this place is excellent. Really fast service and very authentic food.
A quite extensive menu with lots of great options. My favourite entree is the Northen Style Spring rolls !! They are so delicious when hot and goes so well with the fish sauce. The quail was nice but sauce a bit too lemony and could be better.
Lots of chinese and Vietnamese people come here especially for the pho which is so hearty.
Also if you get the Vietnamese iced coffee, it comes in an authentic Vietnamese coffee filter/pourer (Trung Nguyen Legend is one of the biggest coffee chains in Vietnam - recognised when we travelled there).
L. S.
We ordered a few dishes here, they were ok but the spicy beef noodles was overcooked. The combination rice was average.
J. G.
Love the Pho. Pho Tai every time and always on point. I'm here at least once a month.
Update:
I've been going here since it opened, prices have gone up significantly and service has lacked lately.
B. T.
This is my go-to place for bún bò Huế. They have a good variety of other dishes as well but I haven't tried them. One of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants in the city
h. w.
Been going here for at least 15 years. Its a humble restaurant that serves very affordable delicious authentic food. Best pho and bun bo xao i've had out.
B. T.
I was impressed with my breakfast however they made my family disappointed with dinner.
We ordered several dishes but all tasted bad and too much MSG.
M. W.
Great food, good service, nice atmosphere,
but as long as I remember, the price is a little bit high comparing with others.
B. D.
Fantastic! Super tasty, ace flavoured huge servings and friendly service. Will be back for sure!
M. F. O.
We ordered the Combination rice and Pho tai via Uber eats for the first time. Portions were big for the price and didn’t take long to be delivered. Very impressed. Highly recommended! We will visit the restaurant soon.
z.
I don't live near the city, but whenever I inexplicably find myself there I always feel this deep rumbling in my stomach, and I know it's telling me to get a Combination Rice meal from Thanh Thanh add an extra pork chop with the fried rice upgrade.
It's seriously delicious, possibly some of the best fried rice I've ever had.
Frontage is unassuming but it's gorgeous inside the restaurant, priced reasonably and always quick to serve, you simply cannot go past Thanh Thanh for a succulent Vietnamese feast.
T. G.
Superb beef soup. Parking not so much. Worth it though.
A.
We have salad Vietnamese style, it's full of fresh herbs with rice paper, sugar cane prawn and grilled pork, very enjoyable.
D. M.
Absolutely FANTASTIC Pho! My house mate showed me this place, and I'm so thankful for it!
The satay sauce they use for the chicken skewers and cold rolls is absolutely delicious. But the Pho really is next level, I've eaten in twice and ordered online many many times. Easiest 5 stars I've ever given.
Đ. Q. N. Đ.
Duck noodle with bamboo shoot is the best VietNamese's traditional dish here! Nic3 and lovely place for nightout!
J.
Love coming here at least once per week for their amazing pho or bun, lovely atmosphere and the staff here are very lovely.
J. W.
My favourite Vietnamese restaurant in the city. The food is delicious, prices reasonable and servings generous. Some places in Adelaide charge far too much for too little and it's all greed. Not this place. They are popular because they are good and don't charge too much.
M. F.
Delicious Vietnamese food. Generous serving sizes and good prices. Always busy and noisy, but adds to the atmosphere. A favourite for me 👍
C. d. p.
The best vietnamist food in all City! 😊
L. S.
Yummy pawpaw salad and lychee Jasmine iced tea.
E. K.
Very tasty stir fry noodle
M.
Late lunch today combination broken rice, Thanh Thanh special fried rice, vegetable spring rolls and mango smoothie. All delicious and great size serves. Friendly service too. Thank you we highly recommend.
J. X.
Beef noodles my favourite
C. H.
Great range of menu options and yummy food. Quick and polite service. Well priced.
M. D.
Fantastic Vietnamese food and quick and friendly service.
For entree we ordered dim Sims, spring rolls and salt and pepper squid and they are all so tasty!
For mains we ordered the chicken hokkien, chicken fried rice and a chicken ginger chili dish that came with steamed rice. Everything was beautiful!
I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone and can't wait to come back and try more things.
O.
Great food, quick service, very reasonable prices
K. H.
This Vietnamese restaurant is one of many, however Thanh Thanh is considered a higher tier than those in the rest of Adelaide. I had the Roast Pork Rice which although was rather expensive, definitely was the better pork I have had at a Vietnamese restaurant in a long time.
K. K.
I had the best drunken noodles of my life. They were so good that I felt like they were homemade. Thank you. I will definitely be back!
D. M.
I look at many restaurants to eat, and always end up eating at thanh thanh. Love the super fresh salads, and vermicelli dishes . Always makes you feel good after eating, dishes not heavy and bland. They have so much flavor, a little gem in Chinatown.
K. M.
Food was yummy and servings weren't a bad size either. Staff were friendly and helpful, even with our toddlers.
The only bad things for me were:
- When bringing cutlery to the table, they always handle from the eating end, not the handle end, including chopsticks.
- No kids menu.
- They won't let you split the bill (bad for large groups like us today, unless everyone draws out enough cash beforehand) and they then charge for credit card payments. If we were paying individually I'd understand, but not when they're demanding one payment per table.
J. D.
Authentic Vietnamese food and drink with good, fast service and excellent prices. Not fancy, but tasty. Definitely recommend the Pho (probably beef, but plenty of options), washed down with traditional Vietnamese iced coffee and condensed milk. One of Adelaide's best Vietnamese restaurants.
a.
Pho was pretty OK, I've had much better, salt and pepper squid OK too. Service was quick, maitre d' girl was pleasant and helpful even though the place was very busy
C. L.
Excellent food, a great choice of superb meals. I'm going back for more soup. Friendly, helpful staff and a great casual atmosphere. Lovely winelist. This is a fantastic Vietnamese restaurant right in the heart of Adelaide's Central Market and restaurant precinct.
F. L.
Truly best Vietnamese restaurant within the CBD.
Spacious seating and family friendly.
My top 5 dishes:
- Roast pork / Combination rice
- Spicy beef noodle soup or BBH
- Salt and pepper chicken / combo
- Crispy egg noodle stir fry
- Shaking beef stir fry
A. M.
Fast service, and the food is consistently excellent. You wouldn't know this place was here if you werent looking for it! steamed dumplings and Salt & Pepper squid, Vietnamese salad are amazing
D. N.
As a pho enthusiast I can say that theirs are top notch, the broth is flavorsome, their selection of herbs are great, and the price point is value. After dining here several times the only thing I have as a potential improvement is that they add more meat to the bowl, as sometimes I found myself finishing it while halfway through a bowl
D. T.
Me and my partner travelled to Adelaide this trip and we wanted to figure out how is Vietnamese food in town. After reading some recommendations and reviews, we decided to visit Thanh Thanh restaurant which was located in a hidden spot in Chinatown. The place is spacious, decoration is lovely. Food is low-average as I had a combination rice with pork chop and cha. Pork chop is deep fried which is tasteless and Cha is soggy which needs more seasonings. My partner Pho is bland and needs more seasonings for thorough flavour. Price is reasonable upon the location but will I come back here? Maybe
K. V. T.
The food is reasonably priced and tasty. My favourite food is the noodles with pork cartilage. Its tasty and is apparently good for you. It helps with arthritis symptoms and could possibly help in supporting healthy skin, hair and bones.
C. D.
Good food but needs a big clean & refirbish.
Service just OK.
Still had a good meal
K. L.
The combination rice I had today is bit of average, the roast pork is over roasted and it tastes bitter, the sweet source for rice and meat isn't the right flavour neither. I am wondering whether they changed chef or not.
E. O.
A few dishes which are quite good, but a couple that are truly terrible. The crispy fish with tomato sauce is like fried boot leather in warm Heinz, the prawn meat on sugarcane is bland and watery. Steamed duck looks like roadkill. However, the broken rice (com cay tam) is excellent, and the caramel pork is very good too. Just don't order the wrong thing. Service is pretty good.
C. B.
My favourite pho joint in Adelaide. An overall good menu range and affordable pricing. Can get busy but we always seem to find a seat.
T. T.
We ordered Combination Beef Noodle Soup - Noodles were alright, slightly thicker and wider than the other place in Adelaide. Finally combination means with tripes, tendons and meatballs. Beef slices however are very tough. Soup is average
m. l.
Been going here for years. The pho, chicken laksa, roast pork with rice, vermicelli salad with meatballs, young coconut juice and DIY cold rolls have always been outstanding. I am a creature of habit so not sure about the other menu items but it is always busy around main meal times! Friendly staff and very quick service as well.
E. B.
Good fresh food enjoyed on a 42° day in cool surrounds, dining with many Vietnamese people attesting to the calibre and quality of food presented ! Don't miss this one as it is a belter,so good I could eat there every day !
m. b.
Had pho with rare beef. Quick service and opens late. Without hair, 4 star. Hopefully it was my hair but abit short and different colour.
S. P.
Quick Service Honestly Unpretentious Good Food. The Pho is the BEST in Adelaide City
M. A.
Best pho ever, love this place, the food so tasty and healthy. Very helpful staff, they also do quick takeaway.
H. Y.
A clear, deep flavoured broth that doesn't need sauce to impress, tender Angus beef, combined with fresh basil, coriander, rice noodles. One of the best I've tasted.
R. T.
Overall the flavour and quality of food is very very good. Just need to check the bill closely. I have been overcharged on a few occasions which was rectified when contested but really shouldn't have happened in the first place.
D. a. D. D.
Great Vietnamese food, consistent quality, nice and fresh. Lovely people there too. Thanks Thanh Thanh
Y.
Very tasty pho!Other dishes are also delicious! Recommend for everyone!
A. N. G.
An extensive menu of awesome Vietnamese food and plenty of seating, with pleasant if basic decor. The service can be a bit frantic, but the food is good and usually comes quickly.
W. C.
Good presentation on the food and its manu.. located in central market.. there are public transportation excess to this place but few minutes walking require from the station.. there are parking available but might need to try your luck..
J.
Solid, traditional Vietnamese. Nothing wrong with it, really - but it's important to note that it doesn't exist in a vacuum, as I cannot recommend this restaurant over the much nicer yen linh restaurant just across the road, which has better food for the same price.
B. M.
Pho is the specialty here, but many of the other dishes shine. Fresh ingredients, traditional Vietnamese recipes and a fun, loud and noisy vibe. Tremendous value.
J. S.
Hands downs one of my fav pho destinations in Adelaide. They are fast too! Its nothing to look at but thats the best part. Good cheap eat!
G. A.
Delicious Vietnamese and other Asian dishes at the heart of Adelaide. Very near the Adelaide Central Market and Asiatown.
d. m.
Best pho in Adelaide.
J. L.
Basic layout. Like a food court. Food was good. They are open most times. Cheap. My comparison is to Phonatic on Hindley, my preferred Viet in City
J. M.
Can't say service was great had to ask 4 table water and pepper very slow but the food was fine
m. j.
This restaurant has good food, cheerful service and affordable prices. Its slightly hidden in a back street but well worth hunting for. Good quality Vietnamese food, for a good price.
J. D.
Always a pleasure to come here. The staff were even friendly enough to help out when our 18 month old was becoming a handful once. The food is always on point.
M. K.
Kind of hidden in the backstreets, this is our favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the CBD. Very well priced and excellent sized meals. Don't pay twice the price on Gouger, head here!
K. T.
Pho is delicious!. The taste is same with the traditional Pho in the South of Vietnam. Affordable price, friendly staffs. Highly recommended.
D. P.
Very tasty food, great service... well worth a visit for dinner..recommended
J. T.
Great food! Been eating here for many years
P. M.
Nice little restaurant.
People are nice and friendly.
My wife had a pho soup and I had laksa.
Apparently their Pho is amazing but I was not impressed with the Laksa. It only had 4 prawns and couple squid pieces in a large laksa.
And the soup tasted a little diluted.
C. S.
Had pho tai - such flavorsome broth, quick service, well priced. Would definitely recommend to those looking for a cheap, tasty meal
L. P.
Chicken curry was delicious😋
P. G.
Authentic Vietnamese Food.
Reasonally priced, good portions and prompt service. 👍
M. G.
Excellent food, so fresh, generous servings and not over priced, definitely recommended
J. S.
Don't order bun riue, no shrimp paste. It's also missing something. I can't believe it's on the page as a specialty. It's not the best bun rieu
Z. G.
Great Pho just off Gouger Street. Definitely worth the visit. Get the traditional iced coffee. You won't regret it.
E. C.
Very good pho Bo using excellent Angus beef and lovely broth.
Very friendly and attentive staff. Love it ❤️
M. A.
Best Pho, lots of herbs to add, lovely pork fried rice, quick service and always tasty
K. P.
Not a bad little joint just off Gouger Street, service is okay but food is even better.
D. K.
Two words: Combination Rice. But beware, it is highly addictive. Staff are always professional albeit lacking in warmth. A great place for budget food.
J. G.
One of our favourites for a quick cheap meal in the CBD. The starters practically arrive before the order is taken.
m. c.
Loved the chicken pho quiet place to eat and meet a friend

T. L.
One of my favourite Viet places in the CBD. Great for when you can't make the trek to the western suburbs.
F. X.
reasonable price but be selective when you choose dishes. The vietnam menu is hard to read
T. A.
Food was good, but a bit pricy. Charges for extras like chilli, coriander, etc where other restaurants give away for free.
j.
Perfect food, decor better than most Vietnamese places but don't expect too much.
M. F.

(Translated) I haven't been here for a long time, about three or four years, the decoration has changed a little. The menu has also changed a bit. But the Vietnam River is worse. The soup does not have the taste of the Vietnamese river, and the peppers given are not as small as not given. After drinking the soup, the taste is not as good as before. Because it costs extra money to order chili, I chose table chili oil, but in fact, chili oil is not suitable for Vietnamese river, it is served with Hong Kong-style fish ball river. Therefore, the Vietnam River becomes less like the Vietnam River.
