Big Roddy's hasn't ever disappointed thus far. Can't go wrong with the beef ribs, it was super tender with good seasoning and flavours. The sweet potato fries were excellent and probably the best I've had in Brisbane. Again well seasoned, crunchy on the outside but flavourful inside. Customer service was good. I ordered my meal for pick up and it was ready by the time I got there, the food was still warm and not soggy when I got home. 5/5 stars for you, high recommend this place if you're looking for some American BBQ in Southbank.

Found the hidden gem when it come to american ribs. Went here for birthday dinner and staff was really nice. We ordered almost everything from the menu, (except the burgers coz we're here for the ribs of course, might try it next time) and it was delicious!! Coleslaw was surprisingly one of my favorite because its sourness cuts down the greasiness of the ribs which was perfect. Definitely recommend the Jalapeno with mac n cheese. We will be back again for sure.

Went here for a dinner before heading to GOMA and we weren’t disappointed. Weren’t expecting serving sizes to be large so probably ordered too much! Ordered 2 royal samplers (max sauce) with coleslaw and green beans and 2 serves of jalapeño poppers between 3 people. Photos are towards the end of the night (too hungry on arrival haha). The jalapeño poppers were stuffed with mac and cheese and had a good bite to them - cheesy sauce was great too. 4 to a serve but they were quite large! 1 serve would have been plenty between the 4 of us. The ribs were cooked so well - saucy, juicy and fell off the bone - the royal samplers had both beef and pork ribs so we were able to try both. We got the max sauce which was the spiciest but wouldn’t say it was that spicy - definitely go this option if you enjoy a bit of spice! We had a group of 7 people but were served quickly and food came out at a reasonable time. Would definitely recommend this place to others!

Excellent ribs. Just fell off the bone, moist and full of BBQ flavours. Coleslaw and garlic green beans were great sides (any carb would have been too filling). Chicken wings were ok, but there are better in West End so stay with the ribs. Not a cheap meal (half rack $22, full around $40) but tasty. Good beer on tap. Quick service!

Excellent place! Must come and try their rib and 🍔 burger super delectable!! Baby back ribs (also back ribs or loin ribs) are taken from the top of the rib cage between the spine and the spare ribs, below the loin muscle. They have meat between the bones and on top of the bones, and are shorter, curved, and sometimes meatier than spare ribs. The rack is shorter at one end, due to the natural tapering of a pig's rib cage. The shortest bones are typically only about 3 in (7.6 cm) and the longest is usually about 6 in (15 cm), depending on the size of the hog. This reminds me of an American diner but with limited choice in food. Speaking of food, the ribs were amazing - falling off the bone and you get your choice of marinade it gets cooked in. There's also a heap of other sauces you can add if want. The burgers were good too. Glass coke bottles. The chicken strips were a bit disappointing, I was expecting real chicken strips like ones you get from Denny's but the ones they had were just breaded chicken patties cut into strips and then fried. Overall it's definitely a good American restaurant but it could be better.

Great ribs. Honestly don't go past the ribs. We shared a Royal Sampler and a Poutine between two adults and honestly couldn't get through it all. The Poutine is fabulous. Very good value for money, especially with the $10 burgers on Tuesday lunch times. Atmosphere is nice but when I needed to go to the bathroom they gave me a literal ore with a key on it into the bathroom lol. But the meat was nice and juicy, very tender and not dry at all. The only thing I didn’t like was how the chairs were literally at a 90 degree angle and it made me feel bad about my posture. Also we met Roddy and didn’t even realise it even though his face is photoshopped all over the restaurant, absolute legend tho 😍

We feasted on the likes of: * the royal sampler, $39 - pork button half rack & beef short rib single bone * buffalo wings, $10 - 8 deep fried chicken wings smothered in buffalo sauce served with blue cheese dipping sauce * chicken strips, $10 - strips of deep fried, buttermilk brined, seasoned chicken served with aioli dipping sauce * poutine, $13 - Canadian style handcut fries topped with rich gravy and Australian cheese curd * sweet potato fries, $7 * chilli fries, $13 - handout fried chips topped with Big Roddy’s chilli and homemade American cheddar cheese sauce Awesome meal, really enjoyed the poutine and of course all of the meats, of which the ribs were the expected standouts. Nice to meet some other members of the OzBargain community too, and share in our love of bargains!

Wow! What a great find! It was my husband's birthday and we wanted to try something new. We decided to head here for lunch. We got the Royal Sampler (half rack of pork ribs and one beef rib bone) and some Poutine with Bacon. Everything was divine! The pork ribs were beautiful and melted on your mouth... However, I preferred the beef ones - they were practically falling off the bone and very tasty. The Poutine was magical! The chips were perfect and they had plenty of curds, gravy and bacon bits. We polished off everything! We will definitely be returning!

Have been a customer here for almost 3 years now. On each occasion the food has been excellent, and equally importantly, consistent. Service times are generally very good, and the staff pleasant. Please note it can get very busy, so it is worth planning ahead or booking if you are going as a group.

My friend and I ordered the babyback pork ribs, garlic fried beans, and poutine (fries covered with cheese and gravy, Canadian style). Every item was AMAZING. The ribs were so tender and juicy, and the meat fell off the bones. The garlic fried beans were surprisingly good and were more unique than the other sides. The poutine is something that you have to try. We also wanted to try the buffalo wings but we didn't as we were too full. If I come back again I would grab a few more friends to share the huge portions.

I've tried a few American style burger and ribs restaurants but not all. I rate this the tastiest of them all so far. Staff were very accommodating, the online ordering system was very convenient and the food came out quicker than I thought considering we had a family birthday group of 12 (tight fit but very doable over 3 tables). Portion sizes were SO BIG I had to ask for a takeaway box to finish it off and enjoy later. I ordered their main meal sampler RIBS(tender and juicy) with their poutine fries gravy melted cheese with bacon. First time I tried cornbread and loved it. It came out hot with a tub of butter. It's a new taste for me. Almost like a crumbly yellow cake that tastes abit like a pancake flavour to it and the butter just melts into it. Very tasty and will try again. After our meals the staff cleared our tables and bought out the birthday cake with plates utensils and even started singing happy birthday for us to join in. Well done staff. Those at my table enjoyed the burgers and other items which I will have to try when I return. THANK YOU Big Roddy's Southbank we enjoyed our night.

First time here will be back. Short beef rib was amazing. Fall off the bone tender with the original BBQ sauce. I could have drowned in a tub of the maple butter from the corn bread. Slaw was a much needed acidic hit to cut through the ribs and whatever they season the fries with is perfect for the meal. Cheeseburger was okay. The sauce and pickles overpowered it slightly and took away from the rest of the flavours burger. Very acidic overall taste, couldn't taste beef or cheese. A good American cheeseburger but not the best I've ever had. Can't wait to come back.

Omg the button ribs are the BEST RIBS I have EVER eaten! Annoying touchless covid ordering system when they are really busy (network slow?), but once you're through that, the food and great service makes up for it and more. Would eat here everyday if I could afford it :) top picks would be button ribs, standard sauce, cheeseburger, cauliflower things, poppers, chicken strips, corn, beans and any type of fries with aoli. Good selection of beers. We will be back soon! No kids menu, but picky eaters will devour the chips and most would be convinced chicken strips are long nuggets, they'll do tomatoe sauce on the sides.

And unlike most Aussie rib joints, the sauces aren't just sickly sweet and overpowering! Great value for money, which is another rare expression when talking about ribs down under. Service was great and our order came out quite quickly, which is the only reason I'm giving 3 stars. Burgers were ok, but the biggest disappointment was the fries x2 which were both severely overcooked and had so much salt on them that they were inedible. For the $52 we spent and from the reviews and rating online, we expected the food to be amazing. Sadly that wasn't the case. In response to the owner's reply below, we did get asked how the food was while we there. We told the girl on shift about our fries and she just said she was sorry. "Seasoned well" is an understatement.

I love a good wing and rib place and Big Roddy’s definitely delivers on the food side. Make sure you have a reservation as the place is fairly small and was packed with people, all of whom had reserved there spot. The rib selection is plentiful and if I wasn’t getting so many other things I would have loved to try there more expensive baby back ribs which are my favourite. But instead I opted for the pork button ribs which were decent. The real star is the wings which are deep fried, the way god intended. They have what they call blue cheese dressing but was more like aioli. The corn bread is a must get. One issue I have is that if you’re going to open an American style restaurant your staff needs to be prepared for American customers with American style questions. I asked if they have root beer and was looked at like I have two heads. Never heard of it. Ok, I see lemonade is on the menu, is that authentic old fashioned style lemonade that’s not fizzy? Oh yes, it’s authentic. Great I’ll take three. And what get delivered to me- you guessed it, friggin Sprite. But at least since it’s a small place it’s easy to wave down staff if you need things like take away boxes, which we certainly did.

Food here is really good. The pork ribs in original sauce is nice though a bit too much fat. Had thick sweet potato fries which were fried in a batter. They were tasty, portion size generous and quite filling. Had their buffalo wings which was so delicious. The wings are first fried then dipped in sauce. Beware if you can’t take too spicy, it was really spicy which I love. They have some specials on every day. Value for money, small rack of pork ribs $20 with a free side. Atmosphere was great - American style restaurant with booths, stools and tables, cool photos of celebrities and funky music. The waitress said this was the only Big Roddy’s restaurant in Australia so how lucky Brisbane has it.

I love this place! Great flavours, and excellent value. The beef short ribs are always beautifully tender - if the waiter tilts the plate at all on their way to your table, you'll find the meat has already fallen off the bone (so good!!). I’ve been wanting to try this popular eatery for ages, today I got that opportunity. It certainly did not disappoint & it exceeded my expectations. The only disappointment is we arrived fairly late in the afternoon, and had limited time, the staff were very patient, helpful & friendly especially with menu advice. It’s a fairly small venue so I do suggest checking out the Google Maps “busy time” tracker before you head out, being popular you may not get a table, so book a table online, or order online takeaways via bigroddysribs.com, deliveroo.com or doordash.com. They also offer takeaways at the counter - so don’t stress about getting your sticky ribs fix! The “fall off the bone” ribs are super delicious & proudly sourced straight from a sustainable and Australian location – Schultz’s farm in South East Queensland! Schultz are ethical care farmers, who believe in providing best care for their animals & a reduced foot print for our environment. You have to love & seriously throw your support behind companies like this! French fries were wicked! We shared the beef & pork rib “Royal Sampler” platter as we struggled making a choice between the beef or pork. My favourite was definitely the pork. The beef was succulent & simply melted off the bone - delicious. There are a range of 5 or so bbq sauces available, ranging from super mild to max power, we went with the mid range sweet bbq option, which was a mild smokey, honey infused flavour with a hint of chilli - YUM!!. It was a great choice for us. The house wine is very good, I tried the shiraz, the glass poured was definitely value for money, unlike some other places I have reviewed. We had heard their Jala-Macca-Peño Poppers are magnificent, but sadly they had sold out, clearly a menu item worth trying out on our next visit. The food overall was pretty good but quite pricey for what you get in terms of portions such as the beef short rib. The meat is well seasoned and cooked to ensure medium tenderness whilst retaining so much of the fat and juices. Chicken strips were rather dry but that's my only criticism. Considering there isn't too much competition around definitely check it out.

Totally the place to take your most snobby associate to for fun and then watch them salivate over the ribs and get a bit more down to earth. This place feels like the brisvegas answer to the rib shack featured on house of cards... Pricing is great and they do takeout + delivery too. Do yourself a favour, GO! Amazing burger and rib joint. They make their own BBQ sauces which you can purchase by the bottle. You can also grab a bottle for your table to use, so there is always plenty of sauce for your chips/burger/ribs etc. Their daily specials are not as good as they used to be but overall it's one of my favourite restaurants in the area. Be warned, the place is small so seating is limited.

Went here with my family and my son who has severe food allergies. Initially the staff were very hesitant to recommend any of their food but were very open and nice about it. While checking out the menu I think the owner came out and had a very genuine felt talk about their products and how they are sourced. We ended up ordering a number of things off the menu (5 of us) we got ribs, burger, wings, beans, sweet potato fries, and chicken strips and everything was good. The ribs were tasty and tender and the sweet potato fries and garlic beans were great and a bit of a twist to what you get other places. Will recommend. Oh and the staff are really nice.

Might increase the chance of a customer being inclined to buy a drink hence increasing profitability of selling drinks... Besides that, very nice, will be back!

Excellent burgers and ribs. Has a selection of beers as well. The cheeseburger is a great late night meal after having a few beers in South Brisbane. The service is very good. Waiters are friendly and the food is served quickly. The seats are comfortable and it is usually not too busy. I have never had to wait for a table at the restaurant. The paper towels on the meal number come in very handy if you order the ribs. It's a great idea.

Don't get me wrong the food here is amazing. Had a beef ribwich with Smokey bbq sauce and a side of sweet potato fries... I also ordered a pork ribwich which became breakfast the next day. Even reheated in a microwave that burger was awesome. I ordered 2 burgers because they were $13 each. For that price I figured they would be quite small... I was sooo wrong. The burgers are a very decent size. The reason this is not a 5 star review is the service and the restaurant itself. If you haven't booked a table good luck getting a seat in less than 30-40min as the restuarant itself is quite small and the service is just as slow. You can order ahead which I highly recommend as it took around 45min for me to get 2 burgers and a side of fries but overall if you love American style bbq I highly recommend the food here.

The Best Beef Ribs in Brisbane (and possibly Australia). The meat fall off the bone and they have a great selection of BBQ Sauces. They also do the best value loaded fries (add pulled beef on top). Tucked away in Fish Lane, a friend recommended this place for yummy ribs. We ordered both beef and pork ribs with coleslaw and sweet potato fries as sides. Good and succulent beef ribs but small portion for what you pay (4 bites for $19). High fat percentage in the beef. The pork ribs were a little dry for my liking. We also got sweet potato fries which were sooooo salty. Service was friendly and food arrived fast. Coleslaw was nice :)

If you like it hot, go for the Max Power BBQ sauce with your ribs...it's amazing! Wish I could have taken home a bottle of it... Only complaint would be I wish the half-rack portion size was a bit bigger (not a huge amount of meat on the pork ribs I ordered). Next time, I'll get the full rack instead. But damn tasty stuff, and a nice friendly place all around. We'll surely be back.

I went with some friends and we shared pork ribs and Poutine while we had burgers. It's was all very good. The ribs were tender and moist although I would have like a bit more of the delicious sauce. It was my first taste of Poutine and I see why it's popular. The guys who have visited Canada spoke highly of Big Roddy's use of cheese curd as I hear it makes all the difference. Lastly the burgers were good, almost rustic. Next time I'll add some of the wonderful BBQ sauce to mine as I think that will make it even better. Service was great and wait times were impressive considering how busy it was. Definitely recommended.

I'm a big fan of bbq and was looking forward to my meal at Big Roddy's. I have to say I wasn't disappointed. I took my family today for my BDay and although it's not exactly intended as a family joint the waitress was nice and accommodating, they had a high chair and we didn't feel out of place. The food was on another level, beef ribs and pork ribs were awesome, fries were seasoned with something magical, and chicken was great. Well done team I love ur food (from a guy who smokes on his bbq every weekend!).

If you've decided calories are no issue, this is by far one of the best places to spend them! While the food is perfect every time, what strikes me most over many visits is the absolute amazing service. This is non-table service diner, but the staff are always happy, genuine and accommodating in a way that is so very rare these days. I rarely compliment restaurants on good service, but wow... you guys rock. There's a real 'young/ fun' vibe to the small space that just puts you in a good mood - make sure to get a bib-selfie on your 1st visit. A real perk is that you can order as many free sauces as you want! The food is great as evidenced by it always being busy. We always order a rack of ribs (plus free side) and chilli fries topped with pulled beef (and variety of free sauces). When you compare prices (for ribs) elsewhere, I doubt you'll find better value for money anywhere... and then there's the weekday specials. We've even snagged a few group-ons. They also do craft beer. I generally avoid craft beer after having tasted many, many failures. The Champion Lager is fairly decent.

Big Roddy's isn't for the faint of heart. They are doing some things well. They got some decent selection and they got that kinda, diner feel, but they aren't nailing it, not like, say, memphis blues BBQ house, which is nailing it, but you don't really want to fly to north america at lunch time, so you know... lets aim for roddy's. Ok here's whats working: the meat, the meat is good. Pork, beef, etc. all good. Here's whats not working: fries, not really good. Too many sauces, bro's - just do two sauces delicious or spicy, no need for details. And the booths are messed up, no chill sitting in those booths man, who designed those? And I think you gotta get food out a bit quicker, even when you're not busy I feel like it takes too long to process an order.

Really like the food but the place is chaos! You would think you can just walk in and take a seat at an available. It was busy, no reservation signs were on tables but you needed to put your name on a wait list for a seat. Listed and then people arriving after us were seated first and when we asked the staff they had changed who was managing the list and it got lost somewhere 😡 waited almost half an hour which is pretty disappointing, but the food never disappoints.
