tl;dr: Excellent seafood & great service, but some might find it a bit pricey The food menu was small-ish (this isn't a bad thing!) and obviously concentrated on seafood, with very limited choices for non meat and seafood eaters. We all had the seafood, so can't comment on how well those non-meat and -seafood dishes were, but I'd assume that they would've been handled with equal expertise. Highlight of the meal was the crayfish; the live seafood was incredibly expensive (>$200 for one), but the prev frozen ones were of a more reasonable price. The seafood platter was also another well executed dish. Mum enjoyed her birthday dinner immensely, and as someone who hasn't spent the day with her mother for over 10 years, this made me very happy also. My only quibble were that in this day and age of pandemic, and with hospitality having numerous issues with staffing because of the need to isolate or because they're sick, correct mask wearing should be enforced.

We had a brilliant time! The service was impeccable, we booked the 5.30 time slot, & were not disappointed! We were lucky to be sat away from most people, which was nice & quiet. The food was so incredibly fresh & full of flavour, the cold seafood platter was the perfect amount for us, we ordered some chips on the side as well. Dessert finished off the meal so well! The gentleman who was serving us, suggested the orange Broulee & it was 100% worth it. Great place for an anniversary or date night!

We waited 1.5 hrs for food despite being one of only 3 parties there. I paid almost $80 for a couple of tiny Moreton Bay bugs that were the size of slightly large prawns. The sauce they were drowned in was cloying and over sweet, and the lack of substance in the meal was overwhelming. If this is what it's like, do not recommend.

It’s my pleasure to be writing a review for Gambaro’s. My partner and I have visited this restaurant numerous times and each time we discover a new exquisite menu item and enjoy trying different seafood options as that’s our niche, we both love seafood and have travelled North QLD to South QLD and dined at many restaurant and this establishment is very much competitive in its service, atmosphere and welcoming staff. The attention to detail in the condiments and palatable combination the seafood is made with as much as the uniqueness of the atmosphere makes the whole experience at Gambaro’s a worthwhile and desirable destination.

Extremely expensive for average quality. The service here is good, professional and prompt. The restaurant is very loud. I would suggest some soft background music to break up the sound of diners shouting over each other. $55 for a piece of crumbed Barramundi without sides is ludacris! We sampled everything from oysters (which were average, sydney rock's were not fresh), to sashimi (this was a highlight) prawn toast, various sides and mains. The bugs were nice but no silverware was provided to ease the removal from their shell. Also no oyster forks were provided. Great range of beverages, dessert menu could be extended. I wouldn't return simply due to the price and quality. There are plenty of better contenders in the city.

It's fine dining in a quality establishment. Special is a $100 3 course set menu. Min of 2 and whole table has to order. The 2 others I was with wanted that so I had to as well.. there was a double decker share platter at I think $150 that a lot of couples were getting that looked impressive. Should of took pics but they already on here.. got the prawn cocktail, the steak $62 I think to order and the choc hemisphere a half choc sphere filled with custard ice cream and cream. I ordered the 3 most expensive things combo. 1 in party ordered the 3 cheapest options which if ordered separately worked out to less than $100.. so special aint that special. Close to $400 for meals and couple of drinks for 3 people. Not my cuppa tea. But like I said, this is fine dining in a quality establishment. The choc hemisphere you won't find at too many places. Gambaros has been around for years and is established as a top notch venue. They've expanded to include a steakhouse.. conveniently across the road and accommodation upstairs and parking below, on CAXTON street! Normally I would straight 2star on price but that wouldn't be fair as quality is quality.. and the steak was exquisite 👌🏽 Can't 4star cause at close to $250 for me and partner for feed and 2 bourbons and 2 ciders.. yeah it's a treat

Exceptionally elegant, the staff are all trained very professionally and strive to meet all customer requirements; pulling out chairs for people and regularly checking on drinks, etc. The food is beautifully presented and usually in generous portions, very fresh smelling and tasting seafood, cooked nearly perfectly. Prices I’d say in some aspects are steep, though quite worth while. Overall will definitely revisit again and again. THANK YOU GAMBARO!

One of Brisbane's best places for an amazing meal or function room. I've had the pleasure of dining downstairs, and at a few functions upstairs. I haven't been let down. Staff a friendly, food is great, and service is second to none.

First time I have been to here. Ordered the $145 seafood platter to share with my wife. Apart from the oysters the are very nice, the rest of the seafood are quite ordinary. The crab and prawns are flavourless. I expect a lot more for this price tag and all the rewards this restaurant gets. The stuff are lovely and service is great.

Fantastic food and atmosphere! The eye fillet was cooked to perfection, coral trout was delicate and delicious and the linguine marinara was amazing too. Not to mention the orange brûlée and chocolate hemisphere desserts which were perfectly balanced and not too sweet. The service was incredible, the staff were very welcoming and attentive to your needs. A special thank you to our waitstaff, Layla, who accommodated for our halal dietary needs really well, and briefed us as to what we were able to eat. They also managed to bring out the desserts with a ‘Happy Birthday’ message and sparklers for our special birthday guest. Will most definitely be returning for many more special occasions!

The share plate for two can be easily shared for four. However, I’d recommend adding couple of sides to it as the platter is just a selection of fresh seafood but suffers a good balance with seasonings. The other (small or large) plates have well-balanced flavour combined with the seafood or steak so you probably won’t need to add sides to them. There was almost 45 mins gap between serving the entree and main. That’s why I dropped one star just because of unprofessional waiting time in a Saturday night with only four tables to serve!

Place was great, presentation and variety of food was wonderful. Service was excellent and waitstaff doted on us and made sure we were looked after. Guy showed the bill to me and encouraged me to check it before paying to ensure it was correct, and it was. One negative is I'll say I don't think the lobster salad was worth the spend, meat was nice but it wasn't anything super impressive and the salad was pretty nonexistent. Some people don't like this place because they're expecting to get a tonne of food like you would at a boat club, but at $125 a head including dessert and drinks we left full, and I got what I expected.

HQ Photo Booths provided a photo booth and flower wall for a 60th party last weekend. The staff were very friendly and accommodating especially Ashley who constantly checked up on us to make sure everything was ok. A great venue with great staff!

Excellect food and wine. All in our party selected the 3 course meal for $99. Two of the party chose prawn toast, however only one plate was delivered and when asked about the 2nd, we were told it was to be shared - all very odd and rather disappointing. Remaining party chose the prawn cocktail which did not have to be shared. Aside from this, the remaining evening was excellent. Would return again but would question in detail why an appetizer would be shared when 2 separate ones were ordered.

First off parking is terrible no spots available ever then wouldn’t validate parking, also had to wait long time to be seated over 10mins but it was very busy. A part from that the waitress that was outstanding (Francesca that’s 10 out 10). The food was average we had four people attend but only two of us were happy with the food. I have been before a few times always great but disappointed in this time. When you pay a lot for drinks & food excepted better like the previous times. I will only be back because of waitress. We recently had our wedding reception (June 26th 2021) in the Josie Room at Gambaro's and it was simply STUNNING. It's the second time I've booked an event in this room - first time for my 21st and again for our wedding reception. We booked the Chef's Selection of Canapes, Chef's Deluxe Seafood Buffet, 5 hour drinks package and the Kids Menu. Everything was divine, the canapes, buffet (that catered to both seafood and non-seafood lovers), service. Our bridal party were lucky enough to be whisked up to the Sunset Lounge for canapes and drinks before our reception too - just beautiful! Our guests are still raving about how good the food was - not just from our wedding but even from my 21st! The Functions Co-ordinator Krystina is amazing. She took over our event a couple of months ago and she has been incredible. Her attention to detail is meticulous, she leads her team with confidence and her ability to navigate and coordinate multiple suppliers, her team and deal with a tired, stressed out bride - Krystina is worth her weight in gold. We stayed the night at the Gambaro's Hotel too and again, our Gambaro Suite was AMAZING! I couldn't recommend Gambaro's Seafood Restaurant enough - if you're after delicious food, amazing service led by a team of professionals, this is the place. Thank you Krystina, James, Nick and Team.

It is an absolutely beautiful and very classy Restaurant. You dine in soft lighting and candlelight. The room divisions are separated by beautiful see through curtains that add to the very romantic feel to this amazing restaurant. The staff are so friendly and professional and very knowledgeable with their food suggestions. I had the Crayfish Mornay and my partner had the Crayfish in Garlic butter. It was the best I've ever had. So fresh and so tasty. We will definitely visit there once everytime we visit Brisbane. It is a bit pricey but worth it. Also they have their own parking that goes down, located to the left side of the restaurant.

We run Brisbane Event Photograph and recently photographed a company awards at Gambaro. It was quite a surreal experience as the staff were impeccable, all of them, including management! That sounds a bit crazy right? But we've literally seen it all and were honestly blown away by staff on all levels, everyone was friendly and eager to help. Their covid safely cleaning levels were next level too, after a couple of people would walk up the stairs a staff member would come along and sterilize the whole hand rail from top to bottom, you'd think most venues are doing this but I haven't seen it.. however at Gambaro I can tell you confidently that they are on top of it. The only reason I dropped a star is just the lack of variety, gambaros claims Brisbane's best seafood restaurant and if we're basing this on the standard prawns and bugs than sure... However that's it, besides a salmon and oysters there's just so much missing, I suspect they don't want to risk the wastage... Which is fair but I feel if they really want the claim of best seafood in brisbane they should at least have a half dozen types of fish to choose from.

We ended up here Saturday night around 7:30pm, you could have fired a shotgun down Caxton Street and not hit anyone, it was surreal to see. We ordered takeaway for 4 people (the only option really), 4 pieces of battered cod and two serves of chips were quickly served. The servings were enormous and the fish and chips were delicious as was the sauce provided. The staff were very friendly and seemed quite cheerie considering the lack of patronage. We will definitely be back to dine in once the restrictions are lifted.

Price with drinks included was just under $200 which for us is generally more than we would be willing to pay. Overall i would recommend this as a place for special occasions . We had dinner with our family. We left feeling Gambaros is trading on reputation and no longer represents the high standard of hospitality or care they were known for previously. I don't think it is acceptable to have wait staff arrive at the table and call out the meal they have in their hands. They should know who ordered what dish. Wait staff should not reach across guests but rather go around behind diners to reach the next person. It was not busy. Coffee was delivered and finished before the arrival of dessert. I'm not even going to get too deep into the pricing, the lack of sides, parking hassle etc.Whilst Gambaro's is a Brisbane institution, there are many better restaurants with better food and service elsewhere.

I was fortunate enough to be among a group of six people at a business lunch on Thursday 30 May. The menu and wine list are extensive, quality of food served world class and standard of service incredibly helpful and friendly. My main dish was Kingfish. It was beautifully prepared and full of flavour. Others had snapper, Moreton Bay bugs and steak and everyone shared the same opinion. Excellent.

The car parking is hell with very few places available so you do need to be quick but once in the restaurant the ambience is nice and feels comfortable the service and staff are prompt and friendly, we had the hot and cold seafood buffet for 2 and changed an item that the the kitchen had no hesitation to accommodate and the whole meal was excellent and served - presented excellently. After driving an hour into the city and our reservations fell through at another restaurant we nearly went home feeling hungry and frustrated but then we called Gambaros and Ash the manager on was so understanding and fortunately she had some space for us to dine. Even while we waited for an opening for a short time we were able to sit and relax in the bar area which was warm and welcoming. Our entire night turned around at the kindness and flexibility of Ash and her staff at Gambaros. The food was amazing, and our waiter Meg was very gracious and prompt. It seemed other patron's were also thoroughly enjoying their experience. Gambaros has always been one of our favourite restaurants but after lastnights impeccable service and food its now on the top of our list.

Four of us dined at Gambaro’s to celebrate my 70th birthday and our 12th wedding anniversary. Food was lovely. Beautifully prepared, very fresh and a delight to eat. Great choice of wines.Outstanding food and service from start (calamari, oysters) to finish (pasta with prawns, crayfish and garden salad). Too full for dessert although they looked amazing. Lovely ambiance in restuarant and waitstaff were efficient and personable.

Unfortunately did not live up to it's reputation. Scallop entree was just ok lacking flavour. Mussels were really small but the sauce was nice. Main of panko crumbed barramundi was no better than you would expect from an average fiish and chip shop. Linguine Marina was quite tasty. I was really looking forward to eating at Gambaros for the first time. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed, as it is overpriced and the quality of the fish is the same or similar to my local fish and chips store. You are paying $39 for 2 small pieces of crumbed Snapper, with no sides included (not even chips). The Snapper was from the NT and the flathead from SA, so given the distance to travel, I suspect it would have had to be frozen. If you purport to be a seafood restaurant and charge the prices they charge then your fish and other seafood should be fresh off the trawler or local fish market, not imported from interstate. Reputation is one thing, but you have to back it up with good quality food, service and atmosphere, which was lacking.

Loved it! This is by far the best seafood restsurant I've been to in Brisbane! Gambaros have got this nailed! The seafood is definately the hero on the plate. Fresh, tasty and not slaughtered by overpowering dressings but complemented by fresh produce instead. My allergies were also catered for by staff willing to check with the kitchen. Haven't been to Gambaro's before and went to celebrate a friends 50th Birthday last night. Must say we all had a wonderful experience. We started with Oysters Kilpatrick and they were delicious juicy and sizeable. The Oyster Mornay was delicious as well. Up there in price but well worth the spend. Service fantastic. One particular waiter (Lachlan) looked after us really well and nothing was too much trouble. Would recommend highly and it will not be long before we visit again.

The hand cut chips could have been a little crispier on the outside. The reef and beef was full of surprise. We also had BBQ Moreton Bay bug, all I can say is yum! We finished with the crepes, wonderful entertainment value as they are cooked at your table with a hint of comedy. My only very small gripe was that the waiter was quick to remove everything from the table even when other people at the table had not finished their meal, so make sure you have finished your drink before he cleans the glass away also the the guys were seated and served before the gals not really what you would expect at this class of restaurant. We will most certainly go back.

Gambaro’s seafood restaurant is a Brisbane institution, situated on Caxton street near Suncorp stadium. We visited for lunch recently and enjoyed the experience. I chose the small plate spammer crab ravioli, 4 pieces of ravioli which was enough for me, packed with tasty crab meat. My friend enjoyed his swordfish, and with a bowl of handcut hot chips to share, we both ate enough. Not an extensive wine list available by the glass, more by the bottle. Service, as expected in a restaurant of this calibre, was excellent. Great place for a special occasion.

Never again...Here is some honest review of Gambaro.Attitude with the waitress and zero personality.warm beer.not enough butter for the rolls.25% overpriced.and check this out.I ordered a 75 dollar lobster thermidor.turns out it was a FROZEN Californian lobster not even Australian and this is meant to be Award winning Seafood restaurant.And to cap it off when mentioned to the waitress that the lobster was not fresh,her response provoked my response,....well we sell many and yes we do have live lobsters but they more expensive...listen pre coved I am sure they were better but not now and understaffed presently.I did expect the owner to at least acknowledge me but nothing.I been to a few restaurants and normally Italian family ones are brilliant,not here.Ok that’s the negative hears the positive.the water was chilled,the oysters at $5 each were good,the Greek not Italian salad was good.Here are the 3 questions.did I enjoy overall.no Would I go back.no.Would I recommend.no.....one more thing the menu on the net is nothing like the one in the restaurant.And this in my opinion only,you make your mind but don’t forget your credit card.

Gambaro's has come a long way since the 1950's. I can recall Michael Gambaro in the mid 70's and his 'fish n chip' shop next to the Caxton Hotel. Why I was at the Caxton Hotel in my early teens is a story for another day! Today the restaurant rates highly amongst Brisbane's best. Quality seafood amid a host of creations from Group Head Chef Lukas McEwan. Guests will experience a very high standard of service, great food and an enchanting Gambaro Italian atmosphere.
