Comments of WAGAYA

Good and convenient setting. Touchscreen ordering with pictures and explanation on what comes in each option of the menu.
The atmosphere is private and intimate with warm-low-intensity-light on each table which is helpful to see each other and what’s being delivered.
Good good options and impeccable presentation of the dishes (My opinion). Also average pricing.
J. C.
Fun evening of delicious food and cocktails. The staff were friendly and helpful. Ordering from the tablet is a very easy and seamless way of organising food. The restaurant decor was pretty and the booth seating is fantastic.
R. -.
This Japanese restaurant had plenty of options, not entirely authentic, but overall pretty reliable taste-wise (have been several times over the years). Nice atmosphere. The pork belly is delicious. The teriyaki squid was disappointing, only half of what is shown on the menu. The yuzu sorbet is a refreshing dessert to end the meal

Ate here today with my wife and 2 small kids (4&2) . They had chicken nuggets because, well kids, plus they have allergies to egg. These guys accommodated us after being kicked out down the road. Big tick. Food was great, ramen was spicy and fresh sashimi, quick to the table and reasonably priced. Thanks guys.

What a find. On a quiet Monday night in Fortitude Valley we found this fabulous Japanese restaurant. Decor's great and the dining booths are really good in the COVID environment we currently live in. Wines were really well priced but they also offered BYO at $5/person. We ate our way through salmon and tuna sashimi, prawn and soft shell crab tempura, finishing off with wagyu beef sukiyaki. Not overly adventurous but delicious. Highly recommend.
F. S.
The food was absolutely delicious. All drinks & meals arrived quickly and steaming hot. Staff were friendly and professional. Definitely will be eating there again.
J. G.
Everything lovely, wagyu was a tad over cooked

We having been dining here for many years. Visited on Thursday night for the first time since the reopen during COVID.
The menu has gone smaller, noticeably on the sashimi. We always ordered sashimi platter but it was gone. There were only 3 sashimi available: salmon, kingfish and scallops. A little disappointed about this. I wonder if they are doing a COVID limited menu, like many other restaurants do these days.
Ordered a serve of eel sushi, grilled ox tongue and mackerel, eggplant in dashi sauce and spring rolls (yes because my misses wanted it). They are delicious.
$99 for all our foods and drinks. Felt the like price has gone up a bit (maybe not). But foods are still delicious and we should support it during these very trying times.
Comparing to my recent dinning experience at Sono, in my opinion Wagaya has much bigger bang for buck.
L. L.
Excellent experience, we got the private room (was worth the $20) close the door dont have to worry about anyone else, given a tablet order you're food & drinks, service was quick, food was awesome. 100% go back again, I wouldn't pay any attention to the negative comments on this its just Karen trying to get likes.
S. S.
Totally surprised by how much my husband and I enjoyed this restaurant! We set off to find a good Japanese or Thai place and ended up here. We LOVED everything we ordered, and boy did we order a lot! I highly recommend to anyone looking for a fun and delicious meal out in Brisbane.
P.S. You can BYOB your own wine. But only wine. Order glasses via the touchscreen.
O. V.
Very friendly and accomodating staff. Fresh delicious food in a timely and sopisticated manner.
P. K.
Very interesting place to eat. Novel idea ordering off touchscreens at the table, but surprisingly it worked really well. No awkward moments trying to get the attention of a waitress or waiter. Service was very quick from time of order to delivery to the table, giving you the choice of ordering one coarse at a time. If you are left feeling a little hungry you can simply order another dish. Food was fantastic as you would expect with most Japanese meals. Food was well presented on the dishes and tasted as good as it looked. I would highly recommend this restaurant to any Japanese food lover. Beware, as you may have to book a fair way ahead to ensure a table after 7pm. There is quite often a line up at the door upon opening at 5.30pm, I guess this is a testament to the quality of the place.
P.
Huge variety and choice, staff are vigilant and ordering is super easy. Prices are reasonable and you can BYO wine for a small fee.
R. L.
If you are looking for a quick but nice lunch, wagaya is certainly one of the best options. I usually order bento here, it’s delicious, healthy and the price is friendly, a similar bento in Koto Sanpo in the city is 25% more expensive. And the restaurant is spacious, staff is friendly and helpful too.
P. S.
Lunch menu is still good, but used to have better value previously when they had box sets. Still tastes great, but we went there recently and it was missing the croquet, half boiled egg, deep fried tofu and pickles that used to come with the old lunch box sets... but at the same price.
I now prefer coming here for dinner only. Great selection of small plates that can be shared in a group.
b. x.
One of the best Japanese restaurants I have been to.... service was excellent and food was excellent. really friendly staff. highly recommend going
S. D.
Can't wait to eat here again. One of the beat dining experiences I can remember.
J. A.
Quick service and nice food. Polite staff. Liked that I could order everything off a tablet that had pictures and descriptions of all the food, was very convenient.
D. M.
This is probably one of the nicest Wagaya venues but I still find the food just alright.
Order at your own pace with the self service tablet and the intimacy of the booth set up is quite nice. Food is average in price and the drinks, a bit expensive at $3.50 for a glass of soft drink...
N. D.
This place is exceptional, the best Japanese ive had in Brisbane. Great for large groups as they have traditional Japanese rooms where you take your shoes off and sit on the floor. The range of food is quite extensive and quality outstanding. Prices are very reasonable and choice of beverages again are quite extensive from both local and imported Japanese. Get in early if you dont want to book and they validate your parking for $6 after 5pm if you park in the chinatown carpark across the road. The staff aren't the friendliest but they are extremely efficient.
D. S.
The food and setting was very good. The self ordering system even had a gluten free section which made ordering very easy.
E. R.
Really fun night out, delicious food. Hot pots are really reasonably priced, sushi a bit more pricey but look at it! Twas delicious. Lots of fun to have a booth, and quick service! Would definitely recommend for a night out.
D.
Enter through glass doors and walk up stairs. Cosy cubicles. Nice mood lighting.
Use touch screen to order. Can join membership rewards.
Been here many times: great sushi, crispy salmon skin, terriyaki chicken Bento Box, miso soup.
I nearly always order seared salmon sushi handrolls & crispy salmon skin.
On this occasion, tried 2 different seared salmon sushi twice and they're great. Also, the
Wagyu handoll. Lots of beef!
(Water is free- it's in soft drink page.)
C. R.
Good food. Unique wooden booths with screen ordering system. Licenced and BYO wine.
A. S.
This is one of the restaurants in Brisbane that I visit regularly. It's a great place to take a group of friends and share plates with. The food is great, there is A LOT of variety, and the service is fast. Plus it's BYO wine! Be sure to book ahead on a weekend though because this place is usually too full for walk ins.
W. L.
Food is quite delicious, depending what you pick. I like the more unique clean tastes rather than all the typical Japanese salty sweet taste. Always a long wait though. I came here for a birthday party, a few weekend lunches and had one of the lunch boxes on a weekday. Nice exotic interiors. Overall, mediocre with some delicious items.
A. K.
I recommend this restaurant to every body. The prices are reasonable and the place is cosy. The sushis, Sushimi and the soups are great. For those who want to eat more, they can try chicken which comes with rice and soup. You can have your wine BYO or by from the restaurant. They have a range of alcohol drinks and cocktails. Wish you have a good time in this restaurant.
You can park in the secure parking (for dinner) for $5 but you should show your ticket to the reception of the restaurant first.
2. j.
Very well priced, nice atmosphere and plenty of seating space, it's more like a fancy shop than a menu restaurant though which was unexpected but food is still good and well priced
W. G.
Huge variety of delicious Japanese cuisine, delicious cocktails, plenty of beer and wine options. Lovely atmosphere with booths and to the table ordering via a tablet at each table. Generous portions and reasonably priced.
A. W.
We have visited this place numerous times and the food did not disappoint. Most of the food are delicious, though few of the ramen are not our favourites as they are quite salty and the portions are small. Staffs are friendly and each table has a self-order touch screen system.
The hot pot set meal Nigiwai course for 2-3 people is well-priced at $65, which comes with a bowl of salad, edamame, and katsu chicken cutlets each. It also comes with an assortment of different sashimi cuts, and finally a beef hotpot with a bowl of udon noodles. The broth though is quite heavy flavoured and salty.
Bookings recommended if visiting weekend nights.
K. T.
Bit surprised at the high ratings, but the sushi sashimi platter was very average. Quite disappointed because I was so excited for Japanese food 🥺🥺🥺
M. W.
Our group had a fine meal at this restaurant. Ordering was super easy and the delicious plates of food to share came in rapid succession. Recommended.
M. S.
Great variety on the menu, everything tasted amazing and it all came out crazy fast. Super keen to keep coming back!
J. Q.
Delicious food, one of the top Japanese restaurants in Brisbane. They have a variety of options to order from. Parking used to be quite easy with the Secure Parking deal however, now that the car park is closed, it’s a bit more of a hassle.
N. P.
Great authentic Japanese food with generous menu options. Inside is spacious with every table having its own booth. It also has an easy touch screen order system at the table. Staff was attentive and friendly and the food was awesome. Highly recommend!
C. A.
Delicious food, didn't have any dish that our table disliked. Fast service, love that you order food through the computer screen at your table. Great atmosphere. Will come again if I'm ever in Bribsbane
J. C.
Booked a private room here to celebrate a birthday which was convenient as the young kids could potter around without bothering the other guests. Food was delicious, sushi and sashimi was very fresh. My non-seafood husband had a curry chicken rice and really enjoyed it. Bill came to just over $200 for 4 adults and 2 kids which is pretty decent.
C. B.
Nice food and quick service. Only give 4 stars for the lack of drinks to order, no Japanese whiskey and minimal wine selection.
c. “. P.
The restaurant had a great Japanese theme the seating was in booths that can seat 6 comfortably. The seats had no cushions as this made it a little bit uncomfortable. The ordering is done on touch screen and can only order 1 thing at a time and the food came out the same way in dribs but the food was good, service was quick and the drinks was a bit pricey
C. R.
Probs the best WAGAYA in Fortitude Valley tbh ngl
M. H.
Quite a noisy, lively restaurant. Great food. A good place to go with friends or for a casual meal. Not so great if you want to have a chat or a romantic dinner.
J. B.
Nice meals - great value - all based on self order tablets and mini meals. You wouldn’t come here for a 2 or 3 hr dining experience, it’s more suited to be a great place you visited on a night out, whilst visiting other places.
Great little cheat deserts - Creme brûlée really hit the spot.
m. K.
It’s nice and quite modern Japanese restaurant , the tuna tataki is impressive, it would just like the cooking of steak in rare done, with onion on side, ginger and shallot on top, mixed with fried garlic and wasabi, topping with lemon juice, the mixture of tastes won’t take over the tuna sashimi. Yum
The independent cubicles tables allows customers enjoy their privacy, service is decent too.
D.
Very pretty but without strict dress code. I walked in wearing Reeboks and tracksuit. Love their touchscreen ordering system. The food is great.
S. M.
Unreal and very authentic Japanese food. The order-at-the-table-tablets are a brilliant idea giving you the time to browse and choose as you go AND the food and drinks come out very quickly. Everyone gets a private booth. 5/5
S. Z. b. R.
Great ambience with automated ordering. Really enjoyed their prawn avocado sushi and udon noodles. A good place for a casual dinner with a group of friends.
a. G.
Love the whole touchscreen at the table ordering, great Gyoza's - thanks
I. I.
We’ve been here about a year ago and I did not save it on the map, forgot the name and tried hard to find this place on Google not remembering the name and the exact location 😂
I really wanted to get back here as our previous experience was amazing and very memorable.
I was very happy to finally find this place and to come back here.
We had about 15 dishes from the menu - every single one was amazing.
Pretty fast service and a very big choice was a bonus.
We have ordered the biggest sashimi plate with salmon, tuna, scallops, etc and the fish was really good.
I was with a group of picky Italians and everyone loved their food here.
Seafood Hot pot was also really good even though I do not usually eat it.
The only one dish that we could not eat was the matcha cheesecake, it was strange, powdery and dry and it was left untouched. This did not affect our overall experience and it is still a 5star review.
If someone from this restaurant is reading this - you might need to fix this cheesecake situation.
Do not order the cheesecake!
Black sesame icecream was an absolute winner on the other hand 💛
🍷It would be also nice to add a few additional nice wines into the wine list as the wine choice there is limited to the cheapest wines similar to the Yellow tale.
They have great beers and sake though.
I have saved this place for our future Brisbane visits and I will definitely recommend coming here and try everything of the menu apart of that cheesecake 😬
Keep doing the great job 👏
L. G.
Amazing food. Lovely atmosphere. Outstanding service. Have been a few times now and always have a wonderful experience. 👏👏👏👏
S. H.
Great food, comfortable atmosphere, lovely wait staff. Highly recommend as a awesome place to catch up with friends.
N. O.
Not sure if things have changed but appears to be far more expensive than it used to be with a smaller menu. Service still excellent. Food is 8/10. Just pricey. Perhaps due to Covid they need to charge more to stay alive. Got stung for parking, $50 for 1hr, which didn’t help. Will probably stick to west end alternatives where food is equally as good, a little less pricey and parking almost free.
H. N.
Food: Chicken Nanban was amazing, think juicy chicken karage strips that's crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I am definitely coming back just for that dish. The other Chicken Karage dish was delightful too. My group also ordered a selection of sushi rolls and sashimi, sashimi was fresh enough but sushi rolls were nothing special.
Vibe: Nice private timber booths with tablets to order food and service. Lighting is bright enough to appreciate the presentation of the food, but dim enough to give an intimate atmosphere.
Service: Staff were friendly and pleasant. Food arrived promptly. I attempted to book online for another occasion but it didn't have the right availabilities. When asked, the reception staff was kind enough to help make it work anyways for the desired date.
Parking: Closest secure parking is Chinatown Carpark (1 minute walk), $16 flat nightly rate at the time of this post but be smart and get your ticket validated for $6 instead before you leave the restaurant.
R. H.
Had lunch there today, the food was yummy, the pricing was reasonable, staff was friendly and polite, and the restaurant was quite clean. It was a nice experience in general!
By the way, I was there the other night for dinner and the service was slow but friendly so it was acceptable but the food, like other reviewers have commented, the quality is gone. I’ve noticed that they have changed their recipe over the years probably like a few years back so I wasn’t surprised by that. But it was really not as good, but the lunch I had was okay tho. And one thing I noticed was that the gyoza I had at dinner (not good) was different gyoza from the one I had at lunch (yummo) so don’t know what’s going on here. It could be run out on the night or it could be just different chefs.
WARNING and Just if you’re coming for lunch, be careful not to park at secure parking because the flat rate $6 from WAGAYA is only for after 4pm. Hard lesson learned!
T. L.
I really love wagaya, the food comes fast, it's always tasty and I love having a booth to share. It always feels a little more private. Everything was fanatstic and I would definitely go again.
H.
Always fun for a night out to go to this place. The menu system is simple and the prices are pretty good. Order a couple bottles of sake and see where the evening takes you. Minus one start because the mens room often needs a clean (but not in a terrible way).
y. h.
Nice ambience, good service, fresh and yummy sushi.
D. H.
Had an brilliant experience here. The food was great, Every dish was a work of art. the novelty of ordering via a touch screen next to the table was cool and allows you to keep adding drinks and dishes to arrive, though this can esily get away from your control and lead to over ordering or a large bill.totally worth out though. You must definitely book a table in advance as this place is supper busy every time I have been.
E. S.
A fantastic dining experience! Delicious food ordered in a touch and fast effective service make for a dinner definitely worth trying. The menu is quite extensive so there's sure to be something for most tastes. Be sure to book as it's very popular, especially on weekends. The Karaage is exceptional.
A. B.
Authentic, delicious Japanese. Beautiful restaurant, good value & ambience. They also have traditional rooms for hire. Been many times, never had a bad experience.
A. R.
Service is great.
Staff very friendly
The meals are amazing and the portions are large, worth every cent.
Good variety on the menu.
Has cubicles for small private fuctions.
Pay parking right opposite the restaurant.
Parking can get a little full and you may need to be patient to find one.
Would have been 5 stars. I gave it a 4 just because of the parking situation.
P. C.
In my opinion this is easily the best Japanese restaurant in Brisbane. I have worked in Japan in the past for a number of years and I feel so lucky to have Wagaya in Brisbane to give me a glimpse back into Japanese cuisine. Great customer service, food is always spot on and will always be a regular here! 100% LOVE IT 5 Stars!
S. h.
Love the way you can order from a screen as many times as you like and have the food and beverage come to your table. Restaurant setting gorgeous, only thing I would suggest is getting padded seating for people with hip/ back issues or are pregnant. Location is handy and staff are very pleasant. Food is always top notch, and the prices are very reasonable for such high quality food. Definitely recommend this place to lovers of japananese food.
M. v. d. V.
Convenient touch screen to order your meals from. Both the sushi and the hot dishes were good.
N. B.
Fresh and delicious food. Completely recommend it
J. M.
Fast service, hot food kind staff and amazing atmosphere. Food tasted more flavourful that I remember. So many delicious textures of food in one place.
J. C.
Great Japanese atmosphere. Pretty awesome deal of ordering on the touch screens. Food was fantastic and very authentic. We got there just before lunch closed and the staff ensured we knew what was going on and had ordered enough before they stopped taking orders.
F. D. R.
Overall was a pleasant experience. The screen ordering system was very gimmicky and although a little jarring it did streamline the experience. The food was very good and out of the 9 dishes we had, only the 6.50 crispy pork belly was bad. They were happy to take this off the bill though.
Service =4
Food = 4
Atmosphere = 5
W. M.
Really amazingly good! Very friendly staff and a real fun dining experience!
L. T.
One of my favourite places for dinner with friends family etc. Awesome place that can accommodate large or small groups great menu and delicious beverages
S. A.
Have been here a lot. It is nice for group dinners. I find they can bring unordered meals so be careful if in a large group. Food usually comes quickly. Bit overpriced. Fee for booking a large room and they have restrictive time slots.
B. Q.
Great food as always. Very fast table service. However, they now only take bookings between 5:30-8 at which point the do last called for your table at 7:30. Then you have to leave and the next rounds of bookings go from 8- till 10 ish. This would be fine except if you wish to have a dinner around 7, you either have to eat really fast or wait till turnover at 8.
Cocktails taste amazing but very little alcohol. You are better off going with beer.
B.
I remember this place from many years ago and I loved it then. Everything was so tasty so we thought on this trip we would go back.
Staff are excellent although somewhat lacking English.
The food has really taken a dive, the fried dishes tasted like the oil was old and the food was oily, the sushi rice was so dry and the broth we had was so strong we got lots of water and watered it down, once we pretty much doubled the liquid in it, it was pretty delicious, but should we really have to do that at the table?
... Though the shashimi was to die for so at least that was good.
I tried telling the staff but they barely understood me.
I may try it again and hope I get an experience like I did years ago just because it was so good then and they may just be having an off day.... But this was a very very disappointing visit.
B. G.
Excellent service and food is quick to the table.
My friends and I went to Wagaya two nights in a row and still feel like we could go back again. The menu is diverse and extensive, catering to vegetarian and vegan diets.
K. V.
I had amazing fresh hand rolled sushi and Gyoza from a broad and appealing menu. I was very disappointed in the lack of staff for a weekend lunchtime. Service started off impressively fast when we arrived and then slowed down to over 40 minutes as tables filled up. I was in a group of 4 and we left before we received all of our food. The service spoilt the great food experience.
D. M.
This is me being very picky, service was very quick, straight to our chair. Was not told you have to order from the flat screen, but worked it out. Drinks and food came very quick. Might as well replace the staff with robots as they lacked that human touch. Food was very tasty and perfect temperature. I would came here again but only as a group.
s. g.
One word: Outstanding! The food the place and the service first class. Highly recommend and I will come back in the future
R.
Order by touch screen and comes out within 5 mins. You have a booth to sit in so feels personal. Food quick and super tasty. Price is average but quality nice. Would definitely come back
M. T.
Favourite Japanese venue in Brisbane! Cannot fault it. One of my favourites! Cute booths to sit in and a large menu to choose from!
N. E.
Been here a couple of times and really enjoyed the atmosphere and Japanese decor. Plus the food is great and ability to order by touch screen is convenient. My favourite dishes are teriyaki tofu, spicy chicken karaage.
D.
Always a treat when dining in this place. The cocktails are very tasty and very reasonably priced at around $9 each. Food comes out pretty quick as well. A bit pricey but will not get disappointed with the quality of the food and friendly service.
T. C.
The last time i went the food was good, service was friendly and top notch and everything seemed clean.
Returning after several months, it felt like the place had changed management.
Table was sticky, staff weren't as friendly and didnt seem as experienced.
A lot of things seemed broken toilets, door handle, creaky seats, while this might have been a bad time it feels like it's been there a while.
Food was not great, the gyozas were undercooked in texture even though the taste was fine.
Ramen noodles were overcooked and a bit soft, toppings also seemed like it wasnt cooked properly, egg was too hard, seems like nitpicking but the restaurant used to be much higher in standard.
Desserts of ice cream seemd to be more ice than cream and felt like eating woolworths ice cream or badly churned ones.
Service was okay but there wasn't the usual attentiveness/friendliness of the previous staff.
If you come here just for hunger sure but not much else should be expected any longer, you're better off going to any of the other nearby japanese restaurants in the area for your money.
M. W.
Digital screen ordering, prompt delicious meals, great atmosphere and location, clean and authentic.
O. F.
Stylish and authentic Japanese restaurant. The touchscreen menu makes ordering from the great selection of food/drink items easy. Highly recommend the Tuna Sashimi and Seared Wagyu Beef. Some vegan options are available. Friendly and professional staff, also. Looking forward to returning. ありがとうございます
c. d.
Really nice booths, private and you can hear each other talk. I won't say the food was good it was overpriced. Vegan and vegetarian options are not great either. Overall nice atmosphere though
E. W.
Excellent food and friendly, efficient service. I would highly recommend to anyone looking to book for large groups as their private rooms make the experience memorable. Their authentic Japanese decor add a charming and cosy atmosphere to dine in.
J. S.
Good food and service. Japanese izakaya style. Only down side, common with many restaurants, is high level background noise from other booths. Need better separation and acoustics. I know a good architect who could advise.
r.
*Entry on Duncan street, it's on the street and not in the centre - Google maps has you enter from Brunswick street for some reason*
Fantastic food. Swift service. Awesome atmosphere.
Only downside is I didn't see any garlic ramen on the menu. Oh, the ordering system could use a search function or more sub-groups to filter by.
P. G.
Love this place. Especially the seafood hot pot, and the seafood udon noodles, amazing. The sushi does not seem all that well priced so we never get it, and the spicy ramen is ******* spicy, but really tasty, so... Risk it for the biscuit
E. C.
I have eaten here many times with different friends and family and it is always excellent. My favourites are the Karaage Bento Box and the Iced Green Tea. Service is fast and efficient and I love the touch screen ordering. It's perfect for when you only want to order a few things at a time.
V. V. S.
Superb location and authentic interior. Prices are quite affordable compared to other mid-range Japanese restaurants in Brisbane. I enjoyed my "Hamburger lunch set" which arrived with miso soup. Ordering the meal is fun and easy, use the touch screen devices in your cubicle, even for calling a bill. They also offer a membership program which gives you $5 off once 100 points are gained.
Will be back!
J. F.
Good tasting food, pleasant dining area. Order from your table electronically. Pricing is fair. Good for family or social events. Just need to improve on dessert, frozen berries probably should of been thawed.
H. R.
Excellent place excellent food excellent customer services
J. P.
One of my favorite places. Very good quality food for very fair prices and great seating
in bays so your group has privacy. Best part: Convenientl ordering at the table via a screen so food keeps coming. They have a big menu and serve a large range of sushi, sashimi, soups, finger food etc. Food comes out fast. The atmosphere is comfortable and neat. Parking available opposite the restaurant in a multilevelcarpark.
J. S.
Great place to eat with a lot of variety on the menu. Sitting in the booths is nice and private. Best to book in advance as you cannot always walk in and get a table.
P.
Initially I felt weird ordering food from a screen but it actually works really well. We just ordered a few bits, ate, chatted, and then ordered some more... and then some more. Really yummy and varied menu. Its on the pricier side for hungry people, but for the experience it was worth it.
B.
It’s a very good place and they have every tables in the chambers which is very considerate. You have to order from the touch screen which makes you not even notice the price lol. We order curry pork rice and curry ramen also the grilled salmon sushi. They were sooo delicious and really worth it! Must try this place when you visit Brisbane!
L. T.
Really good Japanese. Not totally authentic but decently priced for Aussie Japanese fair.
H. G.
Unreal dining experience. Focus is all on food and friends! Be sure to book ahead to avoid disappointment. Have been here many times with family, friends and colleagues. Nobody has ever walked out unimpressed. Vegetarians also have a fantastic selection here.
R. F.
Fantastic quality Japanese food. Fast service. Easy ordering through there Ipad system. Hot pot sizes are perfect for two if you order large. Thanks for top notch service.
R. A.
We want to Wagaya with a big group from work and had a private room. The room was really nice with amble space for the ten of us. We ordered a variety of dishes to share. The spring onion pancakes and takoyaki were a real stand out. As it’s BYO it’s also very good for those on a budget. The only reason why it’s not a 5 is due to the limited time available for the booking, strict 2 hour booking only.
D. S.
Good food. Highly recommend their special. It’s very tempting to order like 10 dishes so come in a big group so you can share! Quick service.
F. J.
Food good. Service less so. Menu tablets weren’t that great. Would be great if you could search for a name of an item rather than have to hunt through the sections.

Beautiful place, cool little booths, touchscreen to order, and delicious food. For some odd reason the salmon and scallop sushi dish we ordered had very dense rice, so we had to split some off to make it balance better (looked more like jasmine than sushi rice, oddly), but once we did that, it was great.
K. C.
My favourite place in Brisbane to have Japanese food. Love the variety. Good value for the A+ quality and quantity of food - especially compared to other Japanese restaurants. Be prepared, some of the staff have limited English speaking capabilities. Which I believe is forgivable because I guess it's all part of the cultural experience of going to a restaurant that sells foreign food!
p. w.
good value and reasonable price. nice lunch. yummy
E.
Why didn't I know about this place earlier?! The food is fantastic. Thick cuts of fresh sashimi that are just delish and a great variety of dishes to keep everyone happy. The touch screen ordering is fun and fast. This will definitely become part of the regular reasons to come to the Valley.
A. K.
Great place to eat. Good amount of privacy in the booths. Good for having conversation with people so that you can actually hear each other. Good amount food options as well and very convenient and quick service as well.
T. G.
Easy to order, had a great feed with a friend and partner and we were able to talk quite easily
A. T.
Awesome food 👍 and great service. Orders come out fairly quickly... can get very busy at certain times so book a table if your planning ahead.
R.
Fantastic food with a massive variety to select from. Service is super fast and ordering on the built-in tablets is very easy. Good place to start a night out.
R. L.
My go to food is their wagyu steak hot pot. Good size and reasonable price. Sushi are fresh and many variety to choose from. By far this is my most favorite Japanese rest in brisbane. and not to forget the touch screen ordering system is great fun.
S. M. U.
Lunch menus are amazing have been there twice lately great service and great food... ordered salmon bento box the portions were generous and the taste of the food was great too on the other Occassion ordered fish katsu which was great too.
Usually we plan our team lunches at this restaurant
J. S.
Fantastic food at a great price. You use a electronic menu and order yourself. Food is lovely and got and always fresh. One of my favourite restaurants. Highly recommended!
s.
Wagaya delivers reasonably good Japanese food, however the overall experience leaves you feeling somewhat underwhelmed. The katsu curry was under flavoured and watery, while the tempura was plain and without seasoning. However the menu offered a wide range of dishes, so perhaps it just came down to bad luck.
M. H.
Favourite Japanese restaurant. The food is authentic and best Japanese is Brisbane. The atmosphere and service is always on point. 👌
M.
Food was good and tasted fresh, loved the sushi especially, service was polite and I particularly liked the decor. Definitely would, and plan to, come again.
G. R.
Great food and service, well worth the visit at both lunch or dinner. The karaoke box is a unique experience for any Aussie used to bar karaoke as it's just you or family or mates that see and hear you sing.
A. M.
good place to book a private room with a group, ordering is done with a touch screen at the table so you can get food at your own pace.
everything is reasonably priced and service is pretty fast.
book in advance though because they are always busy.
E. M. (. E.
Fast and friendly service with extensive menu. Good drink options, too. Ordering straight forward with a touch screen at your table. Unfortunately don't split bills.
D. S.
We rocked up on a Saturday night last minute and was able to be booked in for 4 people within 45 minutes. Food was delicious and quick to be served at a decent price. Team were also very friendly.
C. I.
Loved it. Lovely place with great service and nice intimate seating. Also looked good for bigger groups as well. Every dish that came out was very good.
L.
Very enjoyable sushi roll & gyozas. Only let down was the sashimi dish. Would happily come back again to sample more dishes.
B. W.
Favourite Ramen in China Town. The decor and vibe in this restaurant is relaxing. Usually I go here for Lunch. Staff are quick on their feet and happy to help. My miso Ramen was silky and delicious with a side of tasty gyoza which I could not fault. Great experience in all.
K. T.
Interesting concept. Electronic ordering by touchscreen might be misanthropic or gimmicky to some, but is fun and unique.
Food is very good and is served quickly after ordering.
One of the better Japanese restaurants in Brisbane.
B.
This is a mediocre, example of an Izakaya or Japanese style eating pub. Not bad if you don't know any better but a poor example if you do. Casual dinning: order a range of small dishes to accompany drinks at your own booth or the counter. Not bad for small groups looking for more than drinks and less than dinner.
J. Y.
Great atmosphere, plenty of private booths but very noisy. Not suitable for romantic dinners. Food is Japanese fusion. Recommended dining with friends.
L. S.
Great food, visit this place often. The staff are always very nice and the service is quick.
P. R. (.
Good quality japanese food with variety. Very different options of food and ambience from your usual japanese diners. Love this place and try to visit it more often. Good price does come with a lil price tag above the average. But worth it.
C. J.
My favourite Japanese restaurant, hands down. Using the touch screen for ordering amazing food and bottles of sake in a secluded booth makes for a great date location, or grab a karaoke room and a group of friends for a great group activity!
W. T.
Really awesome Sushi and Japanese food as well as great atmosphere. Be sure to make a booking if you go on weekends because it's usually full up.
D. B.
It's pretty good Japanese food. I think the 2 hour limit on being there is a bit much, and would never happen in Japan! The sashimi is pretty good, and the rice and katsu dishes are good for the squeamish. Decent selection of sake and soucho.
W. L.
Nice environment but a little hard to find cause it is in upstairs. Delicious fried food and snacks, ramen is a little bit salty for me. And the seafood hot pot is really good! In addition, the shoyu hot pot is good but if people don't like sweet soy sauce then I don't recommend. It will be better if sashimi cut thinner.
B. K.
Excellent food for good price. Beautiful decor inside. They offer BYO wine $5/pp, great for a date or a dinner with friends
I. U.
WOW...super good food.
True Japanese vibe and setting.
Quick serving.
Definitely one of the best Japanese restaurant I explored and eat, so far.
S.
A bit pricey but you get what you pay for! The private booths and ordering system really help you enjoy the food and your company in a warm atmosphere. Awesome edamame ahaha
K. F.
Good food. Fast and convenient. Order off of a digital menu, which requires some time to orient yourself and understand your options. Photos for all food which helps your decision making.
ありがとうございます
D. S.
We rocked up on a Saturday night last minute and was able to be booked in for 4 people within 45 minutes. Food was delicious and quick to be served at a decent price. Team were also very friendly.
j. f.
the touch screen menu was easy to use, service was very quick and the food was absolutely amazing
v. t.
Good food. The price is not to bad. If you park there, they give u a discount.
E. F.
I enjoy this restaurant for the privacy of the booths and the quality of the food. I've never been disappointed with a visit.
J. Y.
Great atmosphere, plenty of private booths but very noisy. Not suitable for romantic dinners. Food is Japanese fusion. Recommended dining with friends.
K. V.
I had amazing fresh hand rolled sushi and Gyoza from a broad and appealing menu. I was very disappointed in the lack of staff for a weekend lunchtime. Service started off impressively fast when we arrived and then slowed down to over 40 …
J. T.
My favourite Japanese restaurant. Love the ability to order your own food off a tablet, whenever. Private rooms and karaoke rooms available. 11/10
S. E.
Awesome food, nice restaurant. Cheap parking nearby (multi-level garage opposite restaurant). A bit hard to find as in pedestrian zone. Will go again!
D. P.
Great Japanese food and atmosphere! Love the touch screen menus. I still have yet to try their karaoke rooms, but have heard they're awesome.
N. G.
Really lovely food but make sure to book ahead of time as it's often full.... For a reason 😁
Careful not to rack up too much stuff with the electronic touch screen!
J. G.
Well priced for the quality of food. Service is good: tables order through a tablet which makes perusing the menu then ordering different and easy.
R. T.
Wow! The food was so delicious. Very short waiting time for the food too. Atmosphere quite nice, and the ordering screen is great.
C. L.
Nice food and cool environment. BUT, bad customer service. staff is rude, his time seems to be precious and not willing to stay for questions. That's probably why you order via touchscreen so they don't need to know how to serve customers.
R. M.
Convenient ordering system, fast and friendly service. Good range of food, and a good place for special occasions, but a bit pricey to go often. My favourite option is the seared wagyu pieces but they can be a bit hit and miss, sometimes being overdone.
J. T.
My favourite Japanese restaurant. Love the ability to order your own food off a tablet, whenever. Private rooms and karaoke rooms available. 11/10
M. V.
Great place. BUT please cut down the straws! Every single drink comes with 2 straws! Times that by the hundreds of customers that come in ordering multiple drinks. Terrible for the environment!!
M. M.
Nice atmosphere, nice staff, delicious food
J. C.
Awesome place, food served fast and fresh. Can recommend:)
T. V.
Great price and delicious food. Service is good and meals come quickly. Love the set up of ordering on an iPad whenever you want.
R. N.
We hired a karoke room for the night and it was awesome!!!! The food here is amazing and the service if great. I love that you can place you order using the tablet.
Q. H.
Lots of items to choose from! Many are awesome but a couple of them miss the mark. Good overall value, nice surroundings and okay presentation of the food. Recommended!!
M. L.
Perfect place for friends and families. Food is decent and reasonable. Wagaya doesn't do dessert but have extensive menu for sushi and sashimi. Will be back.
T. T.
Food is always so delicious, food delivery is prompt, computer menu is easy and convenient to use.
M. F.
Cool place to visit.
Massive Japanese restaurant with extremely quick service.
Lacking a little in other aspects of service.
Recommended.
B. T.
Had a lovely night with family. Easy to order and very quick to the table. Food delicious and fresh. Not cheap but still reasonable.
S. K.
They have an amazing ‘special ramen’ that had a broth that’s a lot of different tastes of seafood and I can not recommend it enough. I love me some Tonkotsu but this was something else.
P. M.
So good. Food is awesome, touch screen ordering is a cool novelty. Well priced and great selection of authentic dishes.
k.
A sleek modern style Japanese restaurant with touch screen technology. I'd definitely recommend booking a private room if possible. Changes the experience entirely.
H. M.
Absolutely wonderful experience and the food was very good except for the scallops and rice which tasted like it was full of MSG. Overall though everything was served promptly and the range of food was very good. I would absolutely recommend Wagaya for a great time with friends!
r. E. H.
Best Japanese I have eaten in Brisbane and prices at lunch were great. Would be an amazing spot to bring a date in the evening.
y. k.
I went to Wagaya with my friends for end year party. All dishes we order were very nice as if we were eating at an izakaya(Japanese pub)in Japan.
D. L.
Pork was pretty dry and chewy in the ramen.... gyozas were nit the best. Sashimi was nice and so were the sushi rolls and tofu.
D. L.
Needs a vege curry. The teriyaki tofu was delicious
R. G.
This joint is the bomb.
If you've got a big crew, book one of the private rooms, it's very immersive
Fast service
I would love it it was open for lunch at 11.30 though, rather than 12 :)
J. B.
Fantastic Service, Food and Atmosphere. Had a fantastic night. Thank You.
A. S.
Great Japanese table restaurant. Quirky with an ordering computer on each table and the food is excellent and prices reasonable. Booths are very private.
N. N.
Delicious food of various Japanese food, beverages for all ages and for different taste. Fantastic service and easy to order on their sceens.
K. B.
Really unique and comfortable space, tasty menu, and great value. Good for solo dining through to large groups.
R. F.
Individual booths with ordering screens are entertaining. Seafood items were tasty, some of the meat items not as much.
h. x.
Authentic fit-out. It's nice to hang out with some friends there. The food is good for the price, but does not surprise me. Overall, it's worth going there.
N. C.
My favourite restaurant in the Valley. Good value, interesting ordering style, efficient service. Tasty food. The theming of the place is great as well.
S. C.
I really like their food and service is good too. Slightly expensive (depending on what you order). Good place to catch up with friends though!
A. E.
The food was flavorful and delicious. Great food with quality ingredients. Cool, casual, and fun atmosphere.
N. R.
Decent Japanese food, but of fun ordering off a screen at our table...although it’s easy to get carried away!
J.
Great ambiance, very good variety for the dinner menu, touchscreen ordering system and at reasonable prices.
C. P.
Pretty cool setup.
Order from an iPad on the wall in cool lil booths. Food is delicious, drinks are a bit gimmicky.
H. K. S.
Friendly staff great food. Will come again and bring friends. A bit expensive though compared to other places I’ve been.
C. B.
Food, service, price, speed and quality is good. It’s a pain to make reservations because there’s no online booking and cannot get through to them on the phone
M. v. L.
Really good food, little screens at the table to order food. Plenty of tables/ booths a little hard to find as google maps has it inside the TCB building which it is but the entrance is in the China town mall.
R. C.
Great atmosphere, delicious food, Japanese beer on tap, yummy cocktails. Great for a group booking
B. L. F.
Just can't stop hitting the buttons on the touch screen ordering at the tables! It's far too addictive and fun. No wonder I always end up with too much food!!
W. L.
Great atmosphere for a group catch-up with novel LCD touchscreens for ordering food and drinks. They also do karaoke and have a massive VIP room.
C. M.
Traditional Japanese restaurant. Order from a screen food is good and comes out quickly. Make sure you book on busy nights.
J. M.
Wagaya does great Japanese food. It's good for small and large groups. They do lunch and dinner and have BYO wine
E. M.
Very nice food. Friendly, accommodating staff. The booths are comfortable and cosy.
S. H.
I come here all the time and always suggest it when friends want to eat in the Valley. Atmosphere is lovely, and food is really great (especially enjoyed with friends).
A. W.
Excellent Japanese food, you order via touch screen, food comes out super quick. Book ahead of time, as it gets busy.
S. D.
Fun place to order form a screen and watch your meal arrive. Always good to book in advance
A. K.
The food is great but without any soft furnishings the noise becomes intolerable. Would otherwise be a 5-star place.
R. E.
Authentic Japanese. Great ambience , great staff. Be sure to book in advance this place gets super busy so don't expect a spur of the moment visit.
z. “. w.
Good food was very fast and able to take our large group of 9 as soon as we walked in
Definitely recommend for and type of group/ family
F. G.
I love how it caters to different number of people on a table . Very nice quality of food. Thanks for the great experience . We will be back..
C. T.
Food is fast and decent. Not the best I've had but the order at the table makes things convenient
A.
Pros- Ambience is nice, people arent too loud, staff are very genuine and gentle
Cons- Although the seating is very good back support is flat so not good for the lumbars
C. K.
Absolutely love the atmosphere of this restaurant, food is amazing too, will definitely be back
S. E.
Awesome food, nice restaurant. Cheap parking nearby (multi-level garage opposite restaurant). A bit hard to find as in pedestrian zone. Will go again!
J. Y. W.
I had parsley on top of my chawanmushi. Sorry have to say it was my nightmare cuz it had made all others food in chawanmuchi have heavy parsley flavour. Not a fan of parsley at all.
J. D.
One of the best Japanese restaurants in Brisbane. You order from touchscreens and the food arrives quickly.
v. t.
Good food. The price is not to bad. If you park there, they give u a discount.
J. Y.
Found it to be overrated and many other Japanese sushi places would be on par with them. Though I must say they make a yummy matcha latte frape
J. C.
Private booths and ordering food off a tablet. Great for intimate setting. Classic Japanese food done very well.
M. M.
Brilliant place, atmosphere is amazing little bit expensive the bill can rack up quickly so keep an eye on it if on a budget.
p. r.
Good, Japanese food really good..korean..won't have again.

R. R.
My first experience eating Japanese....didn't disappoint...was great food and fast service...ordering from the computer was a first for me but it worked well
W. B.
Was ok, prices are reasonable but servings have small amounts of meat. Staff don't seem too thrilled serving.
R. G.
Very fun to throw around some Japanese beers and tasty share treats like gyoza, karaage chicken and yakitori. Bring friends
E. F.

M. W.
Good value, excellent food and service.
B. R.
Best Asian food I have ever eaten. Great people. Lots of fun. Good prices!
B. V.
Friendly staff but the ramen was not tha good. Too much prawns/seafood taste in the soup.
E. W.
Good food, pretty good service. Though I wouldn't recommend the soup noodles. Not very suited to my taste
L. L.
A bit pricey but excellent service and nice private rooms to book, really good for groups of 5-9 people
A. C.
Really nice food. Super fun being able to order on the ipad. Food came out really fast as well.
C. S.
Really yummy food, quick service. Does not split bills though which is a pain.
T.
Good food. Love the atmosphere and ordering system. Can get quite noisy in there though
M. A.
Had dinner with friends here, food was ok but for the price, there are much better options in the valley.
T. M.
Grear Japanese food in town. Nice and friendly staff. However they need to improve their English a little more.
A. G.
Love it every time, having a lot of birthday dinners there, great food, great service👏❤
