Yummy Italian food. We ordered the Scallop & Prawn 🦐 ravioli and the Aglio e olio. The Scallop & Prawn ravioli was interesting. The ravioli was thin and you could see a bit of the prawn, though after a while you wouldn't be able to tell what's inside. Very well presented dish. There was a total of 8 raviolis which was a reasonable portion size. It's a little on the salty side, but not too salty that you would stop eating. Rating: 7/10 The Agio e olio was a let down. It was not the most flavourful, the best part of it was the parmesan topping. This dish lacked complexity in flavour. Rating: 3/10 Overall, Food: 7/10 Ambience: 7/10. It's good for large groups. Staff are very friendly, this is a place I will return.

It has been a while since visiting Chez Frederic. The restaurant itself is unchanged and has a nice clean decor with ornamental plants on and around tables. The food flavours is good, but I have some lack of knowledge of French Pasta. Previously the portions were very generous, which was good for our big appetites. They are now a reasonable size but it could disappoint some of the previous customers who expect a large serving. I plan to go back and try the lamb shanks next time.

Covid update: went back on 22 August. Marinara pasta still awesome, the cheese bread was not as good and the carbonara had suffered as well. Still a 5 star rating given the marinara pasta, great wines and service. This was our second trip to chez Frederic. We love the four cheese bread, the seafood marinara pasta and the temparinallo wine. The lasagne was very hearty and the carbonara is sublime, but nothing compares to the generosity, freshness and great (spicy) flavours of the marinara. Serving sizes are huge and wine pours are generous.

The team at Chez are great, pasta is pasta, but pasta done well is hard to fine and these guys gleefully manage to exceed my expectations. Lots of variety and take home packs provided when you cant fit it all in! There's also some limited wine and beer options, although its enough of a selection to pair up with your meal.

Chez Frederic has a very beautiful aesthetic but is also just a little bit overrated and sometimes the design slightly forgoes practicality. The plants planted in the table are great tho. The food is fine although the difference in portion sizes between meals is crazy, for example, pictured is my ravioli which was a little less than normal sized, and my sister ordered carbonara spaghetti and her plate was filled and she ate a lot and then took an entirely filled large takeaway container home as well. My ravioli tasted handmade which was very nice but it was just sliightly less than al dente. I chose the creamy mushroom and pink sauce which was an accident that was entirely my fault because I thought the menu was listing napolitana, creamy mushroom, and pink sauce as the options but it was napolitana, creamy mushroom and pink sauce. I also thoroughly enjoyed the bread part of the jalapeño bread but the jalapeño spread was too spicy so I just ate the bottom of the bread :(

This is a uni student hangout, where the kids come to get some home cooked meals. I thought it was OK nice large serves, reasonably priced, but the decor and the service was a little bit ordinary. I guess if I was going to university and lived away from home, I would give this five stars.

The four stars is solely for the quality of the pasta. I had spinach and ricotta ravioli with Napolitano sauce. I think this is the best ravioli I've ever had. The ravioli pieces are large and filled mostly with spinach and a sprinkling of fine ricotta, which is a welcome change from the typically cheesy ravioli I've had elsewhere. I deducted one star because the service was painfully slow. Twenty minutes for pasta, take away! They seemed understaffed and rushed off their feet. Basic upkeep seemed lacking, see photo of half empty drinks fridge. If you don't want to wait, there's bain marie food, though it looked unappealing.

I absolutely LOVE Italian food, my sister brought me to this restaurant she told me that this restaurant makes it fresh. You can tell the pasta is fresh by the looks and the texture! I ordered spaghetti and meatballs while my sister order lasagna, we also ordered some sides. The food came not too early or late, piping hot but smells so delicious. For its price, the proportions are very generous. I couldn't finish my food and they allow takeaway boxes for you. The decor inside is so soothing, perfect for romantic dates. My new favorite Italian restaurant, I recommend this place for anyone who loves Italian food.

The place is small but very cozy. The entrance area is old and vintage looking, and so are the tables and seats with the old wooden vibes. Very nice aesthetic. The menu is easy to navigate and it's designed nicely with Italian sayings and gestures added in make funny conversations. All the choices on it are extensive giving you lots to choose from. After we ordered the staff checked in on us to ensure our orders and asked us our choices on how we wanted our meals served and if we wanted any extras. I commend the customer service here. If you want Italian food with lots of choice and freedom to choose extras, and like a cozy and aesthetic dinner, I would definitely recommend!

I really wanted to like this place. The food is great, but after two visits from interstate in three weeks, I can't rate it better due to the appalling service. On the first visit, we arrived to be told they didn't have our booking, despite the fact I received confirmation of the booking prior. My husband's main didn't arrive until after I had finished mine. On the second visit, our drinks only arrived after having asked about them after ordering, the chef (?) came out before the meal arrived and asked us to move due to covid restrictions, but we were moved to another spot where we were closer to other patrons. A waiter removed my husband's drink when it wasn't yet empty and waitstaff consistently reach over your food.

Lovely dinner out. Dining room excellent ambiance, not too noisy as can be an issue with concrete floors and tables. Attentive service, never had to cast about trying to catch an eye. The garlic bread starter was beautifully oily and chewy, with curls of parmesan melting on top. We had the chicken ravioli with creamy mushroom sauce and tagliatelle with garlic and oil to share for main. No hesitation in offering us small individual plates so we could share both. The pasta was served in Inexplicably large bowls which overwhelmed our small table but no harm done. The ravioli was full of flavour, rich and creamy. The tagliatelle was delicately flavoured, allowing the quality of the pasta to shine. They could have gone a bit harder on the parsley and chilli but overall it was a good contrast to the richness of the ravioli. I had the Reisling wine X 2 glasses. Bill was under $80. Would high recommend.

Disclaimer: This was a delivery order, items were consumed immediately on arrival. The good -> Absolutely fantastic lasagne, hands down. Paired with the jalapeno garlic bread, it's an absolute treat. Probably will be back for more. Great tiramisu, though a bit heavy on the cream. The not so good -> Fried potatoes and crab-loaded fries nice and crisp, crab chowder was deliciously rich and chunky, but both are overloaded with salt, even moreso than a fast food place. Completely ruined the dishes. Lamb shanks were hard and stringy even though the dish was still fresh and hot (10 mins delivery). Ended up having to steam the meat for another two hours for it to be edible. Eggplant parm was somewhat disheveled and looked more like thin strips of eggplant brushed with sauce - not particularly hearty.

This place came highly recommended from friends and though the food was really quite good (yeah, the gnocchi really was great) the place felt hot & uncomfortable - I know summer in Canberra can be yuk but honestly guys, air conditioning is a must, especially in a venue full of polished concrete and dim lighting so it doesn't feel so oppressive. There was no music and I could hear the staff talking about customers while they were in the kitchen, nothing bad but pretty unprofessional given it was a quiet weeknight and there were only a few covers. It was fine and I would probably go back (mmm, gnocchi), but it wasn't the experience I was expecting after the bar had been set so high

What a great place to eat. The bruschetta and chilli jam chicken meatballs were delicious and reasonably priced. Topped off with a nice glass of local red! We will be back!

First time I went pasta cooked to perfection and delicious, as was everyone else's at the table! The second time, the next pasta sauce was delicious but pasta itself was a bit sparse and only just al dente, but friends was great. The third time the gnocchi for my aunt was perfect but the ravioli came on an entree plate for my Dad with about 8 ravioli - a bit sparse I think. The pasta sauces for Step Mother and me were still amazing but pasta was not cooked all the way through (you could see the colour change) and was gluey which made it hard to get through even half of it. I got a doggy bag (waste not want not) and microwaved it with about another cup of water in it (gradually added water until it cooked - it would have easily been another cup of water) and pasta continued to cook and tasted great at work the next day, but disappointed that I couldn't eat it on the night. Overall though, the food is really tasty and very reasonably priced - they are just a bit touch and go with portions and pasta being cooked through.

Very good pasta and good selection of wines. We were a group of six and everyone loved the food. The restaurant has a few organisational teoubles, food didnt arrive at similar times and there were out of a few ingredients. Roomy and comfy seats, place for big groups and outdoor seating in braddon which is a big plus, however it was a bit hot inside and there weren't many people. Overall definitely a place ill keep my eye on and which we will visit again.

Just wanted to say thank you to the staff at Chez's they are always helpful and when ever I have asked for something they always try and help me out. The food is to die for particularly the chicken chilly jam meatballs. They have a wonderful range of drinks, i particularly enjoy the ginger beer. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual yet classy. One of my friends had a birthday there and they booked for 15 people and we were all very happy with the food, big thanks to the staff for singing happy birthday it really made my mates night. Will definitely be coming back again as i had a throughly enjoyable night.😀👍👍👍

Aaahhh Chez Frederic you've done it again!! Great food and fun service. I took a left turn away from our regular lamb shanks and duck ravioli with pink sauce and tried 2 blackboard dishes instead. The spaghetti with prawns and chorizo tasted sooooo good. Almost as good as the braised lamb cheeks and parpadelle, which was sublime. We'll be back... again and again and again!

I love Italian, the food here was ok but I didn't understand the restaurant we were sitting on cold uncomfortable seats with random loose cushions the place was freezing cold not a lot of options in either food or drink menu not somewhere I'd eat again, Came for my daughters birthday last May apparently the owner doesn't understand that a review doesn't have to be from the last day of business I can add pics if you'd like we were all rugged up and my nose wouldn't stop running it was that cold I was being generous with three stars there were only two options on the menu that I could eat from memory but as this is my review it is my opinion I'm not asking you to agree with me or be sorry I'm just adding my review
