Darbar - An evening in Braddon🤩
I am sure if you will agree with me If you have to see Canberra partying..the best place is to hop at Brandon..
Apart from the busy street famous for pubs and bar, you have amazing restaurants.. One of my favourite on this street is Darbar! It serves Indian cuisine.
Its entrees are Lips smacking 😋 in frame Chicken 65 and Prawns. In main course had we had ordered Chef Special - Chicken Chatpat. But my fav was Chicken Chuka..I bet you would not get this dish in entire Canberra. We had these amazing gravies with Garlic and cheese naan.
Would highly recommend to try some cuisine it won't disappoint you..🥰
S. R.
My family and I visited Darbar for the first time today and I must say, we have been missing some good Indian food this long. I am so glad that we have finally found a good South Indian food joint here in Canberra! Chicken Chukka and The railway goat curry we ordered had the right amount of masala and was cooked to perfection. The curry leaves fragrance on it was just heavenly!! Will definitely visit again soon :)
T. V. (.
The food here aren't too bad. When we lived at Mode 3 it definitely was very convenient to get to as it was just downstairs. Quite good Indian food. Yours truly @fooderarri
J. A.
If you want some pretty authentic Indian food, you’ll get it here. We like our Indian food and we had some dishes here that we’ve not been able to get anywhere else. Paper Dosa for example. Last time I had one was in Malaysia about 15 years ago!! Tasted amazing! Food is great, staff are really nice… but if they get busy with take away orders, you might have to wait for your food… A very busy restaurant at times, but worth it.
K. S.
Amazing, fantastic food. Being vegetarian I tried malai kofta, daal makhni and bhindi with garlic naan and paratha ! Food was very tasty, quantity was also sufficient. We were a group of 11 and my friends really liked non veg dishes- chicken chatpat, goat curry paratha and dum biryani.. restaurant has got good seating capacity. I would want to come again and recommend it to my friends and travelers !
Staff was courteous and food was served hot.
Must go !!
E. W.
Lovely service! Authentic food! Lamb shanks are to die for! Can be a bit of a wait but really worth it!
A. S.
The best mutton briyani in town or perhaps in the region ! They just can’t or shouldn’t loose the current chef
J. W.
Excellent food, excellent service, excellent portion size for the price!! Lovely place to eat, we will be back (already booked in for another dinner!) 😍😍😍 oh and the Keema Dosa is AMAZING!! If you’ve never tried Dosa it is a must! There is also masala dosa which I think is vegetarian 😊
n. c.
Authentic indian food and ambient atmosphere.
thoroughly enjoyed Apollo fish and Malai kofta.
Will definitely visit again
R. L.
An authentic Indian restaurant. Friendly customer service. Nice ambience and the food is great. Best dosas in Canberra. Tnx😊😊
M. G.
We tried the Darbar for the first time today and the food was great, freshly cooked very tasty and well presented. The mutton biryani and cheese naan was awesome. Overall a good meal and great value we will certainly be order back.
S. S.
Loved the food, ambiance and customer service a lot over here. This is the best Indian food that I have had after coming to Australia. Taste of the food which I ate here reminded me of my city back in India.
Highly recommend this restaurant. I will come here again for sure!
C. S.
If you're looking for a good Indian meal this is the place to go in Canberra. There is also a large choice of meals for vegetarians and vegans and they are all delicious.
The inside of the restaurant is spacious, well decorated and it is very rarely crowded. The plating here is also nice and adds an extra touch to the experience.
Having tried most of the menu I can say the food is magnificent and at a reasonable price, around $19 for most mains.
R. S.
Absolutely loved this place. The food is amazing, the staff friendly and the service super quick. They have their own little twists to most of the dishes which make them even better tasting. The Hyderabadi Dum Biryani is a must try.
Will surely come and eat here again whenever we visit Canberra next.
n. r.
Hyderabadi biryani was so juicy and yummy here. I visited twice here before lockdown but today I ordered biryani and naans for take away. It was so tasty and yummy. I feel like eating biryani at Hyderabad.
M. W.
Service was quite quick. My mild butter chicken was a bit too spicy for me, but otherwise tasty, and the Lamb shank curry my husband ordered was huge. All very reasonably priced.
M. P.
Great variety of interesting dishes to choose from. Very attentive friendly service all at a reasonably price. Check it out.
L. S.
Great restaurant. We love the food. Sometimes service is a little slow so don't be in a hurry
S. B.
Best biryani, I ever had in canberra....I loved it 😋
S. B.
Very hospitable atmosphere. Maintained high standards of hygiene and covid safe plans and amazing food
S. W.
Service was sluggish. Went there for the first time to order a take away. Two boys at the counter were very very busy in chit chatting and completely forgot that I was waiting there to place an order.
I went during non peak hours on a sunday and there were only two table to serve so feels like the workers were in a relaxed mood.
3 stars only for the food
M. J. A.
I should admit that most authentic indian food gets served unless you mention about the spice level.
For most of the restaurant that claim authentic Indian cuisine served are just not real.
Darbar restaurant stands to its promise in authenticity
L. D.
Good food. Nice ambience and wonderful service.
G. N.
If you are looking for an authentic, delicious Indian food- in an excellent ambient restaurant:: Darbar Restaurant is the place to go in Canberra!
The chicken biryani was yum next to nothing. Starters (chicken 65) were served sizzling hot and yes there was a bit of wait; in all honesty- for the freshness and if you dont want last nights left over— that wait is worth the taste of heaven.
Staff (Tej)was fabulous and the manager came over to check if everything was good.
A restaurant sure to go for a relaxing and good food!
r.
I ordered my food online and was very satisfied. It is a bit more expensive than places I would usually go but my takeaway container was literally filled to the brim and what I ate for my dinner barely made a dent so really I paid for like three to four meals which makes the price actually very reasonable.
I think this restaurant is usually pretty quiet since it's off the street and Lonsdale has really been going off with fancy restaurants lately but the food is very good and I will be back for takeaway at least.
H. S.
Reception was pretty nice. Food quality was great. Dal Bukhara and plain naan were exceptional. Items quantity was generous even though they were a bit costlier than other similar places. Food serving lead time can definitely be improved.
A. S.
Our trip to Canberra was awesome and delicious too because of this restaurant. We finally found the taste that we missed from Singapore. We became the fan vegetable biriyani and Egg biriyani. Thank you Darbar 😀
R. L.
Have been here a few times. I come here because they actually make the food spicy on request (proper Indian spicy and not the Australianised definition of spicy) and the food is quite tasty.
However, that is where the positives end. Every time we have come, the tables were sticky. The utensils sometimes still had food stuck on and the glasses were dirty. The service was also horrible.
Although I like my food authentic, I do prefer a more Australianised level of service and of cleanliness.
It is a pity that although I can't fault the food that we are left wondering if everything is as clean as it should be (especially in the kitchen).
S. K.
Hey Darbar Team
Thanks for catering to our party! The guests liked all the dishes. You guys were spot on delivering to the tastes as requested to serve a mixture of moderate to hot spice levels- thus Indo Oz guests enjoyed the food.
Kids loved the murukus!
Thanks again.
k. k.
Father’s Day Lunch package was fantastic and our family enjoyed the dining atmosphere too.
Biryani was our favourite and tasted too delicious that we went serve on serve on.
J. G.
Found Darbar a great place to visit for Indian and fusion food. The meals are quite reasonably priced and good size.
I can definitely recommend the dosai's and the Indian curries.
I have been a few times now and I always find the food is of a good standard.
The atmosphere is quite relaxed, nice decor, the staff are friendly. Also funky glasses.
They cater for gluten free and vegetarian. They have a good range.
S. A.
We had to organise lunch for 30 people.
We have selected specific items and we have received the same without any last-minute surprises or excuses.
I saw happy and smiley faces from my well wishers, the movement I mentioned “Darbar” helped us with food service.
Food delivery was on time and it was authentic.
Finally, each and everyone had enough food and the function wrapped up with no complaints!
G. S.
Went for dinner here with family and the food was good. Very tasty malai kofta and paneer and garlic naan!
h. P.
I really like spicy food. Manoj helped me choose the best suited item for me on the menu. Had some amazing food which i thought i could never find in Canberra. This is the best indian restaurant in Canberra with some good staff who knows well about the food they serve. 💯
M. V. R.
Vegetarian meal was excellent. Gobi starter we had was delicious and memorable. Bit dearer but considering the central location, it's expected. Place was clean and tidy. Great relaxing Ambience too. Plan your parking before you arrive. There is a Wilson parking nearby but most of the time
it is fully occupied. Overall would highly recommend this restaurant.
N. M.
One of the best indian restaurants in Canberra. The staff were incredibly professional and the food was amazing, the entres in particular were delightful and different to what every other indian restaurant serves up - try the beetroot dumplings! The portion sizes were large too. Would definitely recommend.
R. M.
Their chef recommendations are worth it to try!
L. C.
A great variety of tasty and interesting Indian dishes. All the staff were friendly and helpful and we felt very welcome. Everything we ordered was delicious and the serves were just right. Also very reasonably priced. I would recommend it for a night out with friends or just to get a fix of the flavour and variety that only Indian cuisine can provide.
v. b.
Great place. Loved the food and the ambience.
Place to celebrate special occassions or an evening with family n friends!
S. B.
Food is 10/10 - beautiful flavours, and such a refreshing change to the normal Indian fare available in restaurants around here.
Unfortunately let down by service. Took forever for anyone to come and see if we wanted drinks, the entrees for our table of 7 came out with long gaps between them, the only way we could order more drinks was to wait for someone to drop a dish off and grab them before they could leave. Drinks could then take a long time to actually arrive.
I'd go back for the food, hopefully service can improve though.
V. V.
Taste is really good and worth the money. Service is really bad. To take an order when not busy is 15 mins and to get food on your table is close to an hour. You can go for lunch only if you are not time constraint. I have been here multiple times and it is the same experience every time so cannot find any reason. Best advice is to order over the phone an hour before you reach so the food is served at their earliest.
T. B.
Best place for tasty Biryani in Canberra...!!
s. S.
Is there a way I could add 10 star to the food-;)
They catered for our house warming ceremony and the food was just delicious! It was freshly made, the containers were filled till the brim and it filled our hearts to see the guests enjoy the meal.
Highlight were Malai kofta & Puran Poli- reminded me of my grandma🤩🤩
K. S.
Have eaten at a lot of Indian restaurants all over the world and this is one of the best i have been to. Food was delicious, service friendly and efficient, liked the ambience. Only reason i am giving a 4 instead of a 5 is the bathrooms need some maintenance.
J. D.
Lovely dinner out. It's a really nice environment and was quiet and comfortable. We had the eggplant main and the palak paneer - both were super-tasty and well done. Very great flavours. Garlic naan also delicious. Good portion sizes too - we had some left over after ordering for two people.
L. S.
Food was good especially butter chicken and dal. No Air condition or not working, it was hot inside.
I don’t know when Indian restaurant started serving Ras malai warm?? Simply accept that it was mistake don’t try to be smart. This was not the first time we have Ras malai. I laughed when the wait staff said South Indian ras malai is warm. 👍🏻😆
V. L.
This is quite possibly my new favourite indian restaurant! I came here for my birthday dinner and had a table of 12 reserved. The restaurant was big and spacious and easily cafered for all 12 of my guests. The service was friendly and they took our orders thoroughly and most importanly the quality of food that came out to us was delicious!!! I highly recommend the desi lamb shank! It was amazing!
R. P.
Delicious ! It’s our second time here in a month.
The staff are kind and caring, and the food is deliciously spicy (the good type that doesn’t burn your mouth off to compensate the lack in taste) and the portion sizes very generous (with the possibility to take home any leftovers)
I don’t normally leave reviews, but I’m very impressed by this restaurant !
K. (.
Very friendly service yesterday. Food was good. Unfortunately the whole restaurant is not clean. Wine glasses should be cleaned properly, so the seats and the tables. Can't be too hard. Toilets are disgusting!
C. C.
Come here all the time and they NEVER disappoint!
M. B.
We had an enjoyable night at darbar. A group of 7 with 2 kids, one in a pram, and we were made to feel welcome. Food was very nice, the dahl was very popular at the table, and the lamb chops were tasty. Service was a bit slow, but reinforcements arrived and things improved.
P. S.
Just had a delicious lunch at this hidden gem !!
Chicken Chat Pat
Bezawada Railway Goat Curry
Dal Bukara
And authentic Dum biryani
To leave you wanting for more !!
Definitely my food stop for next Canberra Trip !
M. J.
Booked via Dimmi with 40% discount offer. I would rank this place well on all parameters.
Food: Except their signature 5 star Darbar Chat, I would rate the overall taste of food an average of 4 stars
Customer service: 4.5 stars
Ambience: 5 Stars
Value for money with discount: 5 stars (This rating will drop to 3.5 star without discount).
One critical error on their part was that they didn't calculate the discount on dessert and charged at full price. The Pista Kulfi wasn't worth $9.
So, If you are able to secure a discounted deal via Dimmi or First Table, I would surely recommend this place for Indian eatout.
S. P.
We drove from Queanbeyan ACT to Darba restaurant about 20km to taste their food. It was worth it. We recommended to everyone to try it once and you will never regrated. It is authentic Indian cuisine.
Friendly staffs, nice environments and best food
r. r.
Under new management... good food... friendly service
J. R.
Authentic! Does not stoop to localize the food by adding sugar to the ingredients, like many others.
D. P.
Good Indian food. Good service. Good acoustics - no need to shout across ths table at your dinner companions.
S. G.
Food and service was always good, but It has been taken to another level by the new owners. We had a fantabulous night yesterday (23-11-2018), at the Cricket night event organised at Darbar. With T20 game live on tele, to top it with unlimited buffet yummy food (pakoras, chckn 65, and briyanis etc, wow !!! with unlimited drinks (incl beers 🤗🤗).. heartfelt thanks to Rajitha and Pradeep for making the night a very memorable one for all of us.. and heartious congratulations for the new venture.. hope many more nights to come.. 😁😁
Grand opening night - 06/12/18.. with exiciting new menu.. must try..
A. V.

Food was excellent and it has wide range of typical Indian varieties and also the food is excellent in designing while comes for ordered food to the table or for delivery. Ambience is quiet good and pleasant table staff with neat attire.
S. M.

Food is great. The wait staff are nice when they talk to you. But they seem more interested in their phones or talking with each other
d. k.

Had an absolutely delicious dine-in meal. The chicken dosa was crispy and the filling so tasty, with interesting condiments to keep each bite different and spicy. But the lamb chops were the hero of the meal. Tender with an amazingly flavourful marinade and delicious minty sauce.
