Comments of Močan & Green Grout

For a textbook example of how to make a medium density block’s ground floor concrete restaurant look and feel organic, head to New Acton and look up Mocan & Green Grout. Working with the concrete floors and the rusty weathering steel exterior, the interior uses trailing greenery and repurposed wood to create a dystopian terrarium. In combination with the cool winter light, and green wine bottle pendant lights, the plants and organic materials give the room an earthy glow.
Tucking into nooks and crannies created by the disorderly wooden shelving gives you a perception of warmth and coziness that usually is elusive in this type of development. I feel warmly towards Mocan & Green Grout even before I wrap my cold hands around a well-made cappuccino ($4) and a strong flat white ($4.50). From the short breakfast menu, baked eggs with chickpeas and chèvre ($18) is a warming, tomato-based skillet of food, best eaten smeared over the accompanying seeded sourdough. The same fluffy goats’ cheese is heaped onto unoxidised smashed avocado arranged over the same kind of toast for their small but tasty avocado and chèvre ($14). Being surrounded by beautiful design helped make this breakfast better than the sum of its parts.

Great cafe, out of the main rush and with a wonderful bohemian style. Lots of green and places to sit outside.
Kitchen out in the open, great menu selections and excellent coffee. Service was quick and friendly.
One of those places where you can sit, eat, drink and talk for hours.
S. H.
Yummy food, well presented food. No decaf, and hot choc was delicious but usual sugar+cocoa powder. They have almond milk. Cute interior

This little cafe has become a regular venue for our running groups special ‘get together’s’ like birthdays or bon voyage etc. It has a warm and cozy atmosphere indoors for winter with outdoor tables in the warmer months. I also love to grab a coffee ‘to go’ at the coffee window because it’s sooooo good❣️The staff are always friendly and the food is good. If you are after a ‘big hearty breakfast’ then you will be disappointed. But for a delicious and nutritious interesting breakfast you are in for a treat. 4.5 stars from me.

We came for dinner as a group of four on a 34degree day and initially sat inside. The menu is very unique and all plates are designed for sharing. The staff are super friendly and accommodating and recommended 1.5 dishes per person which turned out to be perfect for us with dessert to follow. The seared tuna, oysters, eggplant, quail and lamb all very delicious and rich. The dishes are each very carefully considered of the flavours, so are brought out one at a time so you can have a paced, considered and enjoyable meal. There is an excellent wine list however is also byo. We moved outside for dessert and sat amongst the garden and had lovely breezes and summer sunset sky views. A highly enjoyable evening

The food and service are good, but not worth the price you are paying, both in terms of quantity and quality. The portions are tiny for what you're paying. It's quite a pretentious nouveau hipster place. A place you'd expect in a gentrified neighborhood. Expensive for no reason.
The setting is nice because it's very intimate and it's an open kitchen. The place has a cool rustic feel to it. The chairs were small and uncomfortable, though.
The eggs were good because they didn't have that rancid egg taste. They don't do scrambled eggs and when we asked why, the waitress told us it's because the kitchen is too small, which doesn't make any sense. Apparently, smashed eggs (on the menu) are eggs boiled eggs that they just cut open.
You're better off going to The Cupping Room.

Great coffee, and great menu. We tried the baked eggs, the pork shoulder roll and the beet salad - all were devoured. Service a little on the slow side, but it was a busy lunch and we literally had a new prime minister decided whilst we were there, so can’t really complain about it!
F. M.
An amazing bacon and egg roll which was much better then some in the area. The only thing that stopped it from being perfect was the sauce on it. Served with a variety of different cutlery and a figure of a cat this place was interesting, but in the way you’d expect a good fun restaurant to be.
B. G.
Fantastic food, drinks and atmosphere-a perfect Thursday night! Really cool interior design, and super friendly staff providing great service, a great meal for sure: we will be back whenever we are in Canberra.
E. G.
Great coffee and funky interior decor. Really good food too. My favourite cafe in New Acton, and one of the best in Canberra!
F. Z.
Good price with nice food, friendly staff . I wanted the pork belly but they change menu so I have a roll or toast instead. Got 2 coffees and 2 main only for $38. Very cheap.
F. K.
Nicely decorated very cosy, comfy seats (we sat on the stools). But staff felt a bit disorganised (morning tea time), wasn’t sure if it was table service or order at counter. We ended up chasing down a waiter to put in an order and then a different waiter came over after with menus. Coffee was very milky or the coffee wasn’t that punchy. Coffee wasn’t hot either. The danish was flaky but not crisp, too much pastry to fruit.
P. L.
Nice food and staff. Good to sit outside. Just a bit cramped and right next to road. I guess that's being in the city.
S. C.
We've stayed at the QT once a year for the past 3 years and have always seen a queue here from our window... And now we know why! The coffee is great, the service is wonderful and the space itself is funky and stylish. We loved the open kitchen in the middle of the restaurant. Inside it's cosy and intimate, with seating at larger tables, at the kitchen bar area and on smaller tables and stools. The food was delicious, especially the Baked Eggs. Will definitely be back next time we're in Canberra.
K. C.
Best sakshuka that I've ever had, many people ordered this and the bread on the side is gear too. The mushrooms on toast were scrumptious but no comparison to the sakshuka. Coffees were good too.
D. P.
Wonderful spot. Didn’t tried food but coffee was really good. Stuff is friendly and helpful. Coffee was really tasty, and I love their interior so much.
D. B.
By far my favorite place for coffee and food in Canberra. This place is a must visit. Great food good service and ambience
D. F.
We have breakfast here regularly, there will be something on the menu to suit everyone. Friendly staff and a nice atmosphere, well worth a visit you won't be disappointed.
A. M.
Personal favorite cafe in Canberra. The coffee is on point and the owners are maddogs. It's tucked into a shady corner of New Actor and isn't too noisy inside.
Yes, the food comes in smaller portions but what's that saying? Ah yes. Good things come in small packages. The taste is delicious, the poached eggs are perfect, and it's not overly oily or heavy and I leave feeling satisfied but not sick.
Side note: the wine pairing with lunch was exquisite. Recommend 10/10.
F. a.
Great place if you need a quick bite or drink. Prices are a bit high, but it's pretty good quality food and beverages. It's in probably the most beautiful part if Canberra, and fits quite well. It's a bit cramped inside, so I'd recommend either sitting outside or taking away your food. The staff are friendly. And the decorations are beautiful. Would recommend if you are in the area and want a nice hot drink.
W.
Good coffee and good food, however the service was poor. Had the tomatoes burrata dish, really good taste but the size was pretty small for $18. After finishing our food we took 15 mins, only to have the attention of a waitress to be able to order a coffee, all the staff was too busy drinking wine after their shift, which is fair but at least one person should be still focusing on customers if there is any still in the shop. When finally a waitress walked past our table we called her to order a coffee and she seemed almost annoyed that we still wanted something, also didn't collect the empty dishes. Defenitely need to improve customer service and make it more customers focused! Many cheaper and more pleasant options nearby, won't be back!
B. T. P.
Went for brunch and left with mixed thoughts. It is a cute little space with a simple menu and I enjoyed the kale salad. On the other hand, the baked eggs were on the bland side, and our main waiter was rather grumpy and unattentive. Overall based on such good reviews, it ended up being a little disappointing
H. C.
Quick service, excellent ambiance and fresh food. The food presentation was excellent. The open kitchen means you can watch your food being prepared. The staff a really attentive to each dish. The decor is a little industrial and a little boho. Really cosy inside. The lose leaf teas are great. Prices are good too. Close to the galleries and museums.
P. R.
Pleasant spot for coffee and light breakfast. Had a table outside. Service was good.
D. B.
Fantastic fresh food, cooked to perfection. Friendly and attentive staff, we would definitely come back.
C. G.
I keep going back here, time and time again and am never disappointed. I actually love the current setup of order at window before you go inside and sit down.
O. R.
Funky place with great food and service. Nice touch incorporating the kitchen into the middle of the cafe so you can see the chefs at work.
N. K.
Great coffee and services.
No restroom in doors, you got to ask the staff and they will give you a key.
A.
Cozy, quirky and somehow a classy restaurant. I went for a quick drink and some food, the staff was kind the food was good and has about the same prices as other places in the area. From the menu I noticed they have fine dining specially focus in seafood. Coffee is great, would recommend it.
R.
One of the better cafes in Canberra (and in a very beautiful part of town too - New Acton), the food here is really good and the staff very friendly and polite. I highly recommend the baked eggs for breakfast.
A.
Great service and tasty food was delivered in a timely manner. A great way to spend Sunday afternoon.
M. H. K.
Fantastic cafe. Could not fault. Handled COVID restrictions sensibly. Called in yesterday and back for brekkie today. Coffee, bacon egg roll, avo and char grill zucchini fantastic. And carrot cake to die for. Definitely be back.
M. N.
Cute cafe, indoor and outdoor seating. The menu is quite simple. We had a bacon and egg roll and poached eggs on toast with a side of Haloumi and Avocado. The sides were the most expensive being $5 each and small portions at that price. Service was good.
M. R.
Coffee and fantastic simple food done right in front of you in the integrated kitchen.
F. W.
Nice to have a cafe that’s open during lockdown so I can still grab my coffee and a bite to eat
J. G.
Feels like you are eating in someone's lounge room, super friendly and tasty food, servings are on the smaller side so if you are starving grab something big!, tasty fresh breakfast.
H. M.
Very good quality of breakfast and smooth coffee, the portions are a bit small in compare with the price.
N. M.
The food was delicious! The coffee was just the way I love it and the stuff was very nice and friendly.
N. C.
Really nice aesthetic and location.
Coffee was good, food was simple and tasty. A bit expensive for the size, however. I had the Bircher which was nice, but not completely filling.
M.
Delicious breakies but with limited space and due to popularity it's worth booking ahead.
O. C.
Beautiful atmosphere, delicious food made with care, and excellent coffee. The staff at Mocan & Green Grout are always friendly and the lush array of pots and plants outside combined with the rustic and quirky interior make it my favourite place to have breakfast and coffee!
K. G.
Only ordered a hot chocolate but it was nice ! From what I could see food looks delicious. Very open kitchen area and friendly staff.
B. B.
Tiny but beautiful place.. open kitchen, good food and best coffee I had in canberra..finally found a place for decent coffe after dissapiontment from most of the coffee shops. Will definatly vist again..
V. R.
A cosy place with funky interior and exposed kitchen where you can see your food being made. Simple menu offering your regular staples and a very friendly welcoming staff. Coffee could be stronger. If you want a fuss free, relaxed vibe and good breakfast options I recommend you visit this place.
A. S.
One of the most enjoyable restaurants in Canberra.
Small and personable, you feel like you’ve been invited into someone’s kitchen. Someone who has spent all their spare time studying and learning about cooking, trying different recipes and getting the best ingredients from local farmers market.
Half street food style, half high end restaurant, its character and style create a casual, intimate and unique atmosphere.
The people who work here and, presumably, the owners/managers are clearly passionate and love the place and what they do.
The food is always yummy. It’s an open kitchen, you can sit at the bench where the chefs prep and cook.
The service is always excellent, it’s respectful, friendly and professional. We’ve been here multiple times over the years and it’s not unusual to see the same staff. That is always a good sign (based on many years in the hospitality industry) that the place is a great and respectful place to work that invests in its staff and recognizes what they do is highly skilled and valuable.
The passion, professionalism and respect shows in the service and quality of food. It is excellent.
M. L.
Great coffee and tasty meals. Busy little venue that could maybe use a quick run over with a duster.
G. D.
One of my favourite spots in Canberra. This cafe has a very cosy feel with interesting textures and finishes in the interior. Meals that have a wholesome feel highlighting the ingredients, some of which are grown out the front. In addition local potter's are supported with their exquisite plates displaying meals. With kind staff as well, it's an incredibly well rounded cafe.
I. A.
Wonderfully relaxing breakfast with my husband, food was sensational and the coffee smooth and delicious (almond milk latte was great). We loved the atmosphere of relaxed and comfy, there were private and welcoming nooks to snuggle your partner into with wood and green all over. Very allergy friendly cafe, we will be back many times.
Ps: where is your bacon from? It’s to die for!!
s. a.
Good food. Very small. Need to get in early.
M. J.
Small cafe, tucked away in the side streets with quick and easy brekky. Simple menu and basic coffee options. Do try the baked eggs, I think everyone in the cafe at the same time as me also did the same! Delicious.
I. M.
I had a great time! Delicious food, great coffee, friendly staff and amazing chefs. What more do you need? I have been there twice now and both times was fortunate to be seated at the kitchen bench/bar. Perfect spot where you can see the chef create amazing dishes! Very unique experience, I must say.
M. G.
Unfortunately serving takeaway menu only at the moment though you can take a table there to eat. Bacon and Egg roll was nice along with the Coffee. Will be back once they're in full swing again for sure.
M. S.
Very friendly and efficient staff. Unfortunately I was in a rush, but they were so accommodating and got my order through quickly. I had the mushrooms with brioche for breakfast and it was tasty. I’d have it again. Spiced chai was also full of flavour.
M. J.
Hmmm so so
Doesn't compare to Double Shot. Needs to raise the bar on menu. Think seasonal and be daring. Need exciting smoothies and more options on sourdough (Avo needs a break) Oh and forgot my carrot cake but charged for it!
S. F.
Was visiting from Melbourne and had a fabulous work dinner here with 16 of us. Was blown away by the friendly and attentive staff, and the amazing range of dishes we were served. Loved seeing the open kitchen and watching seeing the food preparation. Will definitely be back again when I’m in town.
A. B.
Amazing little find. Definitely recommend. We went there for dinner without a booking on a Saturday and they were able to fit us in. We picked 3 dishes to share and were left pleasantly full. Each dish was well balanced and the atmosphere was really nice. Service was mostly friendly but it was always hard to catch the eye of a staff member when we needed something. We'll definitely be returning during the day to try out their coffee and daytime food.
I. M.
Great coffee with friendly staff and a great setup. Definitely worth stopping by if you haven't yet paid a visit.
N. V.
the chef here is really talented. very enjoyable and well balanced atmosphere, genuinely friendly service, each dish was distinct and so delicious, healthy, and beautifully presented. great wine selection too. it’s now my favourite restaurant in Canberra, and certainly in the top-5 of all my favourite restaurants.
A. M.
Jade plants galore! Ordered an almond mocha and they gave me lots of extra chocolateness for free! Always great coffee, always friendly staff, always lose my mind over how many plants they have
S. K.
Very modern stylish little cafe with great coffee and a good atmosphere.
However, if you are anything over 5’6” tall, you may struggle with the tiny seating arrangements inside.
Quite warm inside due to open kitchen and no aircon/fan. Food is okay, I had the breakfast burger which had a bit too much fat on it. Otherwise good role and excellent egg.
G. L.
A staple of Canberra's artsy cafés, M&GG always delivers on alternate takes on your typical meals with consistently good results. I had the mushrooms with brioche and the range of mushrooms was staggering and super tasty. The coffee is good and the atmosphere is alternative but sophisticated. If you haven't been, go, it's definitely worth a visit.
J.
The food and coffee here is delicious and original. There are also lots of healthy options. The ambience is also on point, inside and outside. However, the food is pretty pricey. If money isn't an issue, you'll love this place. If it is, this café will be a nice treat every once in a while.
P. I. M.
Great food and coffee (finished plates - satisfied tummy 😁). Love the interior design and music. Definitely recommended!
K. C.
One of the best bacon and egg rolls I'm Canberra
j. w.
high quality coffee and the special is tasty too
A. S.
Every time I'm in Canberra this is my go to for breakfast. The cutest venue, I always have breakfast on the bar where I can watch the very talented chef cook up my breakfast. An experience like no other. The staff are absolutely fantastic, exceptional service and genuine interest.
J. M.
We were initially a little unnerved at the seating and layout, and also the portions until we got up to speed with the ‘share plate’ concept - glad we stuck with it as the food was awesome as was the voyeurism afforded by table 18 - allowing a close up of the exquisite plating going on for whole restaurant. This meant we ordered even more.
Great feel. Fantastic food and experience. Short Rib unmissable.
C. C.
Ambient is alright with limited sittings. I had mushroom with brioshe. I have to say I was a bit disappointed with the flavour compared to how it looked on the plate. Also the table next ordered the same plate but it looked completely different. Overall atmosphere was great and service was great.
I. R.
Stunningly well crafted plates of delicious. A surprisingly wonderful evening dining experience after a rather bleak day. The staff wisdom and care in wine selection appreciated. Highly recommended for people interested in food and willing to savour each mouthful.
A. S.
I've been going here for breakfast every time I have visited Canberra for the last few years. The quality of the food is fantastic with a real effort made of variety. Beautiful setting where you can see the food prepared and also outdoor options
I. L.
Very busy cafe, queuing up already at early hours of Sunday morning! Although fast service and we weren’t kept waiting for long. Good selection of healthy items on menu. Open kitchen style. Friendly service. Good coffee.
O. T.
First time visiting the cafe. The staff were absolutely lovely and the latte was good ($3.5) but the food was a bit of let down. We ordered the cotechino sausage with poached eggs, lentils and peas ($17). The portion was about half of what I would expect from a $17 cafe dish. I also felt the dish needed another element to make it interesting. I also spotted the banana bread at $6 that was half the size of other banana breads.
Nice decor and atmosphere, just wished the food was better portioned.

Food: 3/5
Service: 4/5
Atmosphere: 4/5
Value: 2/5
Good for: A coffee run
E. G.
This cafe is one of my favorites in Canberra. The coffee is good and the interior design is the most artistic of any cafe in Canberra. I only wish that there were more cafes like this in Canberra. The place can be a little pretentious in it's atmosphere and similar to many cafes in Melbourne in that regard. For me it's a small price to pay for such a unique and artistic interior design. The cafe closes very early on a Sunday, so it's not a place you can aim for after going out on a Saturday night.
P. W.
What’s not to like?! Dinner menu created by someone with an impressive palette, generated from a very public kitchen the size of a postage stamp, attentive service & intimate setting. Definitely my ‘go to’ whenever in Canberra!
L. H.
Fabulous service. Delicious food. Funky interior.
H. L.
The flavour combinations are incredible, the wait-staff are authentic and genuine and will help you make the best choices for your meal without being overbearing or pushy. The food is locally sourced, as are the plates etc - it just shows they care about the full experience. If you can, sit at the bar, chat with the chefs and get whatever they recommend. This place is so much better than anything else in Canberra - relaxed atmosphere yet incredible food. Oh, and BYO so bring your best champagne!
M.
This is a hidden gem. If you're staying around Hotel Hotel or Peppers, this is the best coffee offer around. My piccolo was not as strong as I would normally have it. However, the flavour makes up for it.. Smooth and nutty with hints of caramel, very nice. The menu as a whole has little variety. Nice place though with exceptional service.
C. K.
A Fine Example of a True Australian-Style Cafe. Australian coffee culture has matured to establish it's own identity, with a style and taste that is unique. Mocan and Green Grout was established in the early days of the fabulous New Acton precinct, and is well sited at the end of the footbridge leading to the Lake on the City side.
The coffee is the best I've had in Canberra; although I live and work a considerable distance away, I make an effort to come here. Food is sourced locally and changes and in the evening small tasting plates provide a great experience.
Highly recommended
A. L.
Delicious food, excellent service and cosy eclectic decor that makes you feel like you're in a semi-underground hideaway. My husband and I have been coming here for breakfast every week for nearly 2 years. It's our absolute favourite spot for breakfast in Canberra.
D. E.
My review is purely about take away coffee. It's on the pricier side ($4 for a small, 50c discount if you bring your own cup), but is very good. The down side is that the service is terrible. They only have one till, so to order a coffee you're up against the lines waiting to pay for their breakfast. And there's only ever one barista on the machine they do everything one at a time, very slowly. So tarter you've waited several minutes to order, it's generally five to ten minutes until you get the coffee.
So to;dr: good coffee, bad service and wait times.
J. D.
Great food, great place overall. Super friendly and efficient staff. Highly recommended.
K. T.
Coffee was ok, on the pricer side for a small (soy) latte will set you back $4 95. The take away cup I was given happens to the last of the stack and the rim was one gathered with all coffee ground/substance lying on the bench of that coffee machine
C. N.
First things first. The coffee was excellent. The service was friendly and quick. The food choices were good. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the location. I will back more than once.
D. B.
This is a little hipster treasure. Tucked away from everywhere else in civic, and despite this it's still packed, even while other places are empty. The Cafe is very small, so prepare to get cosy. The pay-off is that you get to sit in the kitchen as the chefs prepare everything right in front of you. The food is unreal. Fantastic modern fare. Definatley recommend you head in there for breaky. Great coffee and teas too. They even have a take away nook for coffees on the go. A definite thumbs up from me.
L. M.
Great coffee and great food close to some very nice walks in Canberra. The staff are friendly and the service quick. This is an essential stop when visiting Canberra or just catching up with friends. Good seating inside when cold or outside when a little warmer, do not miss this venue when visiting Canberra for the warmth of the national capital.
R. M.
Delicious food. Well thought out flavours and wonderful coffee. Very small establishment so there is often a line up for seats but I am glad we waited :)
J. T.
Good for a coffee stop, not bad for breakfast either. Though I would agree that some might not find the portions as large as they might like, especially if they are male, I found it was fine for myself. Love the little garden out the front.
R. P.
Expensive, but tasty meals from a menu with minimum choice.
D. H.
Friendly staff, great food and coffee. Lots of casual outdoor seating areas.
D. H.
Best cafe in Canberra, assuming you can get a seat. Charming spot in New Acton, cosy interior, beautifully and ingeniously decorated. Large groups better off at A. Baker, Monster or Parlour. Coffee good, staff friendly and casual. Food fine, albeit expensive. Deservedly popular with locals and travelers.
L. S.
While portions are fashionably modest the quality invariably good. Staff efficient but friendly. Cosy modern styling but again fashionable small table space.Pleasant more expansive outdoor seating. Cheery up-tempo background music and good WiFi from three possible sources.
D. T.
Friendly staff, great service. It's my usual go to place for coffee and they never fail to make me feel welcomed. As it is quite popular it can get busy at times. Overall a great place to have a cup of coffee
J. R.
A beautiful place with a seasonal menu of sharing dishes from locally sourced ingredients prepared with care in the nice open kitchen. Friendly, attentive staff complete a lovely, intimate ambience, and even the serving plates and bowls are handmade my local artisans.
Z. K.
Out of the way location, but food and drinks are good. The prices are on the higher side and portion sizes are small. Staff are really friendly and service is always great. The establishment is quite small so be prepared to miss out on seating or share a bench.
B. D.
Great menu, quality breakfast, friendly staff. Outdoor tables.
D. L.
Beautiful cafe with extremely friendly staff, sunny outdoor seats (dog friendly) and the food/ coffee is stand-out. The interior / exterior is worth seeing, really well executed. Loved it!!
E. L.
I had smashed eggs, with mushrooms and goats curd, which was a really pretty dish with bright green herbs sprinkled liberally on top, and little dollops of pureed garlic around the edges. I loved the bread – great texture with sesame seeds on the crust. Overall, the flavours were pleasant, although quite mild; it could've had more bang.
D. H.
Coffee nice flavour but barely warm. Barista errs on side of not wanting to burn the milk whilst texturing and goes to far the other way. Also as with many places the cups/glasses not properly warm so pouring the milk into a not hot vessel drops the temperature down. Little tip to all cafes. Purchase a piece nylon black cloth from Spotlight and place over your cups to keep the heat in. Works wonders.
M. W.
Up from Melbourne & Just had a wonderful meal here. Scallops amazing as we're eggplant, beef short rib, not to mention chocolate mousse... excellent service & atmosphere.
T. H.
Atmosphere and service was great. Ordered the quinoa and beet root salad, which was delicious but the serving size was disappointing. Got about three bites in and then it was gone. For $16 expected a full hardy plate. If it would have been list as side salad and charged half the price, we would have left on a high note.
K. L.
Excellent little quirky restaurant, with a small but delicious menu the tuna was beautifully seared and perfect slices. The lamb was falling off the bone and the lemon curd the right amount of tart.
T. C.
Stopped in for breakfast and was greeted by very friendly staff. Had eggs baked in tomato sauce, chickpeas garnished with chèvre and served with hearty multigrain bread. Lattes were also delicious.
H. R.
They serve decent food but very small portions for the price. The coffee was very good. And the servers were very polite
J. B.
Fabulous during the the smokey Canberra days. Must have good air conditioning!
Efficient + pleasant staff. Menu, food + coffee ✓
L. R.
Good coffee and food, friendly staff and were happy to cater to a nut allergy... it’s always appreciated!
L. L.
Decent coffee and food looked nice. Downside is the walk to the toilet but on the plus side they get the award for most inventive object to stop you stealing the key (see photo)!
D. M.
Went for breakfast, place looks and smells great. Had the mushrooms on brioche dish, very good flavour. Highly recommended.
Y. N.
We went to this place being very hungry. And no one warned us there that this is not a place very you can actually eat to be full. We ordered each one main from the dinner menu. And when they brought it to us we were shocked of how small it was for its price. It was really delicious but dont go there if you actually want to eat.
J. C.
Simple fresh menu that is affordable. The interior is cozy and I always received good service the three mornings in a row I went here for breakfast. Love the fruit toast.
D. T.
Food is great, very friendly for those with dietary requirements. Service was good except for when I asked where the bathroom was, told it was across the street, but didn't get told they needed to give me a key to access it!
A. M.
I had no idea Canberra could have a place this hipster! It rivals some of the surry hills cafes in Sydney. I love the layout and decor inside, just a shame it was freezing cold inside when I was there. The food and coffee was excellent.

You must come here if your in Canberra!!!
Charming, interesting and so much character... The staff were amazing and the chefs are so close its as if your in your own home kitchen!
The smells the feel is just perfect!
Must must must!
C. C.
Fantastic food & coffee and very friendly staff. Highly recommend.
M. H.
Superb food. Recommend a visit early in the week as the restaurant is small and fills quickly. I've been half a dozen times and haven't tired of it yet. Mind you, I never get out for under $60/head. And that's without drinks as it's entirely BYO alcohol.
A. R.
Great cofffee and Chai Tea. Breakfast - the food was interesting, tasted great and small portion for the price tag. Will go back for the coffee if I am in Canberra again.
H. J.
I'm just going to say it..."the best meal I've ever had." Incredible variety, freshness, service, presentation and most importantly TASTE. I'll travel another 3 1/2hrs just to have that experience again:)
D. G.
Very nice.
Coffee was well made and food was amazing.
It was a little pricey but you get what you paid for.
Lovely little cafe and I will be back
S.
I went here twice. The food was not bad, but the order was wrong and the service was not enough.
J. H.
Helpful staff and very good quality coffee. Food was good too. Staff were accommodating of our dog and provided fresh water.
K. K.
Amazing ambience great location in Action precinct. A wonderful breakfast my favourite the baked eggs! Superb lattes too..
G. L.
Wow, wow wow! is all I have to say, the dynamic duo chefs with a team of three on the floor, made our night. Just when I thought passion for food and service had all but died. My faith has been resurrected, thank you guys, we'll be back for breaky and promise to spread the word of a little slice of heaven which is, Mocan and Green Grout!!
L. S.
Great sandwiches, but very expensive.
R. B.
The smoked trout for breakfast was amazing. I'm giving the low score because there are a tone of flies in the dining area.
E. H.
Through COVID this place has been second home: great coffee, great food, lovely people. MGG is now my go-to café.
K. V. L.
Great coffee, lovely decor and soothing music.
D. H.
Tasty food but slow service on a Sunday morning. Completely lost our coffee order. Would go back for the vibe, but expect your visit to take time.
G.
This place is a Canberran gem. The chef is a master in creating incredible flavours with vegetables. That said, the steak tartare is among the best i have had anywhere in the world.
N. O.
Always reliable, interesting food, small cosy venue, terrific staff, good service.
B. T.
Great coffee and Canberra's best egg and bacon roll. Dinners are fantastic also - experiment a little and you'll be pleasantly surprised!
Z. K.
Amazing coffees and breakfast in Canberra. Part of the poshest part of Canberra city. Great customer service and they will go out of the way to help you.
J. T.
Love going to this place. Great coffee, good food and nice location. The staff are also excellent and make the place feel warm and inviting.
F. M.
Fantastic service. Great coffee. Good food although the prices were a bit expensive for the portions. Would be nice if it was licenced.
M. P.
Coffee is excellent, and the cafe itself quite a cosy little nook. The small outside area is nice too and there's blankets if you need them 😀
D. M.
Good coffee, quick service
j. l.
This place is awesome!! The decor, which is fantastic, pales in comparison to the delicacy of flavours across the menus. Coffee is good too
W. K.
You will not find a better bacon and egg roll in Canberra... I have tried them all and none come close. Hard capping it at one per week. I typically have two!
S. “. R.
Visited on a very busy day after Christmas. Nice that it was open during the holidays, but it took a long time for service. Was looking for some specialty coffee, but they just had one type.
J. C.
Asked if a dish could be made vegan, which it was and it was delicious, but they charged me for swapping ingredients (it was about $8 more expensive)
B. G. G.
Maybe the coffee is awesome? I didn't get past the super short food offering. Granted it was not quite open, and the service was good... But, we left.
L. L.
Lovely decor and dishes although prices are steep. $7 for half a slice of rye with butter, I could buy a loaf for that much!
T. J.
Good coffee and breakfast. Also, great atmosphere.
L. W.
If you want coffee be prepared to wait. A pretty upmarket breakfast and lunch joint but is generally relaxed and cosy. The food was good if a little expensive.
A. L.
Mocan is my go-to breakfast place for its friendly staff, amazing food, great coffee and convenient location. The baked eggs are amazing! 👌
W. Y.
Friendly staff in a tiny space. Can get quite warm inside. Food is about the presentation rather than being a flavour sensation.
J. D.
Earthy and relaxing deco. Though toast and bacon are over cooked, tad tough and dry. Might go back as staff are friendly and responsive, thanks.
S. L.
Great food and quality coffee. Popular place so be ready for a wait. And pretty slow service too.
E. B.
Don't be put off by the wankery that Močan and Green Grout oozes—you should expect it from a venue that refers to itself as an "ethical café" and doubles as a bike maker. But there is something to be said for a café that does walk the walk. They literally grow their herbs at the front door and provide their green waste to the compost bin at the local community garden!
S. P.
What a find! Friendly service, sensational food. The white polenta porridge is outstanding. This is a must visit in Canberra.
D. U.
Wow..Food is fabulous and service is great.. in a funky location
A. Y.
Nice cafe with good food and coffee. Food was fresh and delicious. Staff were very friendly as well. Definitely recommend going there.
J. G.
Very cool place, good coffee, yummy food. Busy busy on Sunday morning but didn't take long for the food to appear.
G. “. K.
Great vibe, the venue is larger than it looks, the chicken burger was a great lunch snack. Overall a very nice dining experience.
A. M.
Heirloom tomatoes and burrata, almond cappuccino for brekky. Delicious and fresh, recommended! Super cosy vibe.
p. w.
Open for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Excellent food and coffee. Share plates at dinner. Great ambience. Very friendly staff.
C. W.
Good food and service, nice chilled vibe. Would recommend!
R. P.
I like this cafe/restaurant. Good food but small dishes. Good coffee and Danish during daytime.
R. S.
Good food, service was bit slow though. I highly recommend it for good breakfast, baked eggs are must try.
t.
Great quirky cafe. Food, coffee and service are excellent. Highly recommended. PS. Love the Spanish mix music...
J. H.
One of my favorite places in Canberra. Always great coffee and top class staff. Highly recommended
A. S.
Super tasty food and good coffee. Highly recommend the bacon and eggs.
M. W.
good coffee, but slow disorganised service...left waiting at the order window for ages, even with no other customers waiting.
J. M.
The 'hole-in-the-wall' takeaway coffee is amazing. Great food, and fitout. Parking can be a challenge.
M. G.
One of the most stunning fit out's I have seen! Great coffee, great menu, great service
n. k.
The food was amazing and the staff were lovely and happy to help out. I was with a friend and new to the area and the staff were a great help to us. Thank you
R. N.
Good coffee, nice location and everyone is friendly.
R. S.
Food is okay. Coffee is nice
P. C.
Service is okay. I got the smashed egg and mushrooms, which is basically 1 crushed boiled egg on toast that was cold with a side of cold mushrooms. Coffee was also burnt and bitter
B. H.
Yum coffee, great locally sourced menu with food prepared in front of you. Fantastic fitout, great vibe.
R. M.
Prices reasonable, portions enjoyable , service fast. Coffee great, in trendy part of ACT.
P. R.
Simple and tasteful! Try the octopus - one of the best. Good choices of wine.
A. B.
Great food in an open, if small space. Amazing flavors drift through the restaurant.
E. C.
I purposely stay in nearby hotels so I can enjoy the coffee, breakfast and atmosphere here. I have never been disappointed.
G. L.
Food is flavoursome... But coffee is mehhhhhh. Please change your supplier! Maybe look into st Ali!
L. B.
Oscar makes the best coffee
A. R.

W. M.
Great food. Great service. Interesting wines. Intimate dining space.
D. P.
Consistently great coffee, tasty food and a lovely atmosphere. I'd recommend a visit!
B. N.
Just a short walk from Hotel Hotel, our breakfast of beans and avocado with rustic sourdough left just enough room for a pretty good long black.
D. J.
One of those mean places that gives you amazing food but just under enough of it to leave you wanting more. Such a tease for the taste buds.
B. K.
Friendly service and delicious food. Kitchen is small so meals are slow, so good company makes it better
P. W.
Comfortably as good as anything in Surry Hills. Interesting breakfast choices on offer, good coffee and service and nice venue.
C.
Really wonderful intimate restaurant with amazing food for brekkie, lunch and dinner. Special place with dedicated long term staff.
H. T.
The place was cozy, the staff were friendly and helpful, the menu was manageable, the food was delivered in good time and was delicious!!
B. P.
Good coffee, but the waiter's too-cool-for-school attitude means I wouldn't go again.
M. K.
Small but lovely place. Open kitchen. The food was amazing and beautifully served.
W. M.
Needs to provide heaters for outside seating during winter. Outdoor area is freezing and indoor areas fill up easily
C. A. d. S.
Great little cafe in Canberra. Coffee was excellent and the lamb roll was good as well
M. C.
Tapas type breakfast option was great . However coffee quality isn't consistent.

P. A.
Great coffee and friendly staff. Can't wait for my next visit.
A. e.
Seems like they downsized their vegan options - now nothing savoury. Shame, the food is always so good
M. (.
Very nice food and interesting atmosphere. Open early in the morning.
L. F.
Fast service and very obliging. Coffee up there with the best. Food very wholesome. Nice funky feel.
J. A.
I ordered poached eggs, avocado and graxalax, the avocado was under ripe and the eggs overcooked. Not a fan

Really good, creative Asian fusion food. I wish there were more comfortable seats.

(Translated) This is a very special store, full of design sense;
The staff was very kind and always smiling, which made us a very pleasant meal, and the meal was delicious, but the price and weight were not very worthwhile, a little more expensive.
The coffee section is very good and the price is reasonable.

這是一個很有特色的小店,充滿了設計感;
服務人員非常親切而且時時帶著微笑這點讓我們用餐很愉快,餐點也很好吃,但價位與份量上卻不怎麼讓人感到值得,稍微貴了一些。
咖啡部分則是很不錯的,價錢合理。
