Comments of OTIS Dining Hall

Wow! Where do I start with my account of dining here? Let's start with the first things you'll encounter: the environment and staff. The restaurant is quite unassuming from the outside but welcoming, but also its exterior belies the dining experience ahead of you. Inside, the restaurant has hues of brown and other earthy colours that are bathed in soft warm lighting that creates an intimate and welcoming environment. Tables are arranged to give diners a sense of separation from one another, and is very welcome in an age where some restaurants put customer quantity before their dining privacy. The staff compliment the restaurant and are extremely friendly, helpful and attentive. They are also well presented which all adds to the impression you're going to have a superior dining experience. Which is exactly what you get.
The food here is next level, and cooked to perfection. Everything I devoured was sublime and plentiful. Flavours and tastes supported each other rather than competed or overpowered one another. The texture of my food was also noteworthy. Nothing was over or under cooked. Meats weren't chewy, vegetables weren't soft, fish wasn't pulpy and salads hadn't wilted. Sauces were warm and zesty and helped carry the flavours of the dishes I ate. The presentation of the dishes that adorned my table were top drawer too. A real treat for the eyes. Plates weren't overcrowded with food, likewise the food wasn't dwarfed by the plates either. Signature dishes were worthy of their reputation and clearly demonstrated the abilities of the kitchen staff, as did the non-signature dishes. I must also mention the thought and effort that went into my wife's vegan menu / dishes. They didn't feel like, or taste like, an afterthought or a poor cousin of the main menu. The food that was served to my wife was original and a delight to eat. In fact, the vegan dishes I tasted should be a choice on the main menu so more people can enjoy their brilliance.
There is a marvellous balance and synergy to the food at OTIS, but not just with the flavours. The whole place informs you there is a real treat awaiting you. The mood, the decor, the staff, the beverage list and food are all important parts of one marvellous package.
If you live in, or are just visiting, Canberra get yourself to OTIS for a dining experience no amount of hyperbole can do justice too.

It was such a pleasant surprise to find some unique and creative dishes at Otis! We opted in for the 5 course Chef's menu, and would definitely dine here again. The pace of the service was inconsistent, but the servers were professional and friendly.

Old rustic charm. Semi formal ambiance.
Good food but not exceptional. For its price, we definitely had better. We are not a fan of the "famous" pepper steak for it is relying its whole flavour on its sauce and the meat is dry. The sauce outshines the meat.
Appetizers and pasta didn't disappoint but not the type of restaurant to come back to again and again for special occassions.
Good to try once.

The 3 course a la carte was unfortunately hit and miss given the standard I was expecting. My friend and I loved our entrees, the mains were solid but the chef selected sides made no sense - the strongly nori flavoured potato dish clashed terribly with the pepper steak. Desserts were disappointing, as the caramel of the signature creme caramel was taken too far to be bitter, and my pannacotta quite firmly set despite good flavours. In terms of service, our waitress was brilliant but one of the runners repeatedly ran into my chair as she raced around unnecessarily.

After much hemming and hawing, I've decided to give Otis a 5 because of their impeccable service. The 3 course meal is expensive, but they make up for this with large sides. I had a chef's appetiser, entree, wagyu main ( plus a salad and 2 potato dishes) and dessert for $90.
Food: I would give it a 4/5, because it's traditional European style cooking. Although the food was good, it's just not my thing. For example, the scallop entree came with a thick creamy sauce at the bottom. It was nice tasting and filling, but just not what I prefer. The scallops themselves were big and juicy and perfectly cooked, the apple puree on top was equally nice. The ubiquitous puffed rice seen at all restaurants made another appearance in this dish.
The salmon sashimi dish was probably the most favourite of mine. A pretty dish with a large number of ingredients (salmon, caviar, daikon, segmented citrus, carrot purée, white sauce, green sauce, microherbs. The devil's in the details, for example the carrot purée had a hint of fresh ginger.
The crème caramel was exquisite, it was very soft and silky. It came with a whiskey topping, which made it taste rather burnt. A nice hint of smokiness is good, this was too much for me as I'm not a whiskey person. I tasted it the next day and the alcohol must have evaporated, which made it much more pleasant. ( Yes they give takeaway!).
The pepper steak itself was amazing!! Tender, juicy, beautiful topping. The sauce was normal gravy mixed with marmite. Remember Bovril? Me neither. They were a bit heavy handed with a big salty pool on the plate. I can see other pics of their signature dish which contain less sauce, and a lighter colour too. So maybe mine was overly saucy.
Final thoughts: Our waitress was very lovely and patiently explained the menu. The chef tried to accommodate our special dietary wishes as much as possible. They could do with wiping down the placemats between main and dessert. The bathroom also needs a complete reno. Although it's a two hatted restaurant, there's a shortfall when you compare it to other two hatted places. ( Unfortunately the only other 2 hatted place I can think of is Aubergine). Can recommend for a special occasion or if you're a foodie. If you like meat, spuds and butter but bougee, this is the place for you.

Phenomenal food and exceptional service from the staff. I had the 8 course Degustation with local wines, and each course was divine. As each wine is served there is a fascinating explanation of why that wine was chosen, and each complemented the dishes wonderfully. The staff are very helpful, but not intrusive, and were all a delight to deal with. The pepper steak was an absolute highlight. I highly recommend a visit!
K. P.
Super delicious tasting menu. Some of the vegan options were better than the standard ones according to my partner. Great service, nice atmosphere. Only tiny improvements could be to watch for empty glasses and offer more wine and the room looked a bit grubby. Mirrors could do with a polish, many light bulbs were out. Highly recommend for a delicious dinner.
J. J.
Ah, Otis, we've missed you! Great to be back. As always, the menu is devine. Everyone needs to experience Otis at least once! Special shout out to our server Georgie and sommelier (Dave?). A great night.
R. V.
We came across this restaurant when out walking and took a chance as it looked inviting. We were astonished by the fabulous quality of the food and wine - by far the best we have experienced in Canberra and perhaps in the top 5 throughout the ACT and NSW. The staff were attentive but not over the top and the food superb. The wine list extensive and great advice given to help our selection. Highly recommended.
C. J.
The best steak I have ever had in my life. Sat at the bar and had the chef’s selection degustation paired with the local Canberra wines. The ambience at the bar was great.
I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Food, atmosphere, service; all fantastic. I’m not traditionally a wine drinker, however the sommelier was incredible and the stories of the wine and descriptions of why they were paired with the food was interesting and I walked away with a desire to learn more about and enjoy wine more in the future.
D. S.
We choose the a la carte menu with matching wines. The entire meal was spectacular. The scallops were fat and juicy, the duck was so full of flavour, and the matching wines were incredible. The fantastic service topped off a wonderful experience. Highly recommend.
A. N.
It’s a 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 stars. The service was 5 stars and food was 4 stars.
We had the chef’s menu at $135 per head and most of the things were delicious, but we were not a fan of the ravioli due to personal taste. It has goat cheese as well as some herbs that taste like aniseed to me, neither of which we liked but something we should have noticed ourselves earlier.
The staff was kind enough to provide with another dessert to compensate for the ravioli, which we should have mentioned earlier.
We were slightly perplexed about the lack of cutlery for the complimentary appetiser, and was told that’s a finger food. Before Covid I would be a bit embarrassed to ask the question, but now I thought it would be better to provide us with the cutlery when we ask for it. Still 5 stars service overall though.
P. D.
Wonderful service by all staff. Sommelier really cares and it shines through. I ate the winter truffle degustation and it was phenomenal! Each course was impeccably presented and the flavours were delicately balanced for full enjoyment. The wine pairings really worked! Hard to fault this Canberra gem! Well done. Definitely worth a visit! I’ll be back! 5 stars!

Delicious food. Octopus entree was one of the best octopus dishes i have ever eaten. Lamb rump was perfect! Service was overly eager and a little disruptive tonight, however overheard that there were a lot of new staff on the floor.

Really enjoyed my dining experience here.
A casual outing mixed with fine dining.
Wonderful venue, formal but friendly staff.
The food is an amazing fusion of flavours complimented by local wines.
Highly recommend to try at least once.
R. W.
Otis Dining Hall oozes casual elegance. Every single aspect of the experience was on point. We had five people in our group so were able to try most of the menu - each dish containing subtle complexity. The staff were perfectly attentive and knowledgeable. An absolutely devine evening - thank you.
S.
The food was outstanding. Scallops. Pepper steak. Creme caramel. Not a single dish was a disappointment. One of the best in Canberra.
R. M.
Felt like we were transported to the dining saloons of yesteryear at this great Canberra restaurant.
The ambience really calms you down and makes any conversation feel like it's a philosophical discussion. Wait staff were very attentive and ensured all dishes were thoroughly explained.
The food was really delicious as well. Had the 3 course meal and chose the Cauliflower dish as entre, pepper steak as mains (which included salad and baked potato as sides) and strawberries and cream Panna Cotta.
- Cauliflower was a simple dish with the lightly toasted bread the highlight.
- The steak was almost as soft as the baked potato, cooked perfectly to medium rare and the pepper topping with sauce really enhancing the flavour
- Panna Cotta was fantastic especially if you like strawberries. Perfect balance of sweet and tart, with a creamy consistency and topped with elder flower essence in the jelly. I haven't had such a great dessert in a long time.
Highest recommendation!

Every one of our party of six thoroughly enjoyed our midweek fine dining experience at Otis. The A La Carte menu offered three interesting choices per course. Sourdough bread and butter and side dishes for the main course were included. I chose the Sichuan pork belly entrée which proved to be tasty morsels of absolute deliciousness as were the scallops topped with a thin sliver of chestnut that my husband ordered. My pepper steak main was cooked to perfection and the creme caramel topped with a whiskey sauce I chose for desert was heavenly🥰. Our main server for the evening was, April, and she was delightful and very attentive and accommodating. The overall atmosphere is quite warm and inviting and noise level low so no troubles hearing each other. The wine list is quite extensive and a sommelier is available to help with selections. For those who like ‘big’ meals you may be disappointed but we all found the portions just right. We are all looking forward to returning❣️
E. S.
Absolutely perfect. Every course was amazing. The paired Clonakilla wines were fabulous. The wait staff and the sommelier were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. The ambience of the restaurant was excellent. What more can I say... we will definitely be back.
B. C.
When the staff is gleefully passionate about the food they are serving you, you just know it's going to be good.
It wasn't hyperbolic either - OTIS as a dining experience both because of the superb staff and downright delicious, amazing food is something in unparalleled Canberra in my opinion.
Had the multi-course truffle menu - good mood lasted for days.
L. E.
Just lovely. We had the chefs menu: foccacia, scallops, steak, creme caramel plus more. Delicious, service was excellent and adaptive: they let us talk if we were talking, but also told us about the wines and meals if we were listening.
T. H.
The quality of the food at Otis is just amazing. Every single dish that came out had such depth in its flavour. The price of the meal was very reasonable for the quality and presentation. You can tell the chef's take real pride in everything that comes out of the kitchen as nothing could be faulted.
The restaurant looks beautiful inside, and the wait staff made a real effort to ensure our experience was the best it could be.
Highly recommend Otis for a dinner Meetup with friends, or to enjoy with the family for a special occasion.
J. C.
We had a beautiful dinner last night. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was outstanding.... would definitely recommend it. The atmosphere was delightful.
M. I.
I was pondering between a 1* or a 5*
Their wait staff are exceptional and the food was amazing; however, I find it very disappointing that there is no phone number to call after 6pm.
Me and my partner were visiting Canberra for the first time since our Year 6 Canberra visit and unfortunately - on Google Maps - Otis Dining Hall has the incorrect address. My maps sent me 15 minutes in the wrong direction. After countless attempts to call, I was finally contacted by the wait staff 15 minutes after my reservation.
Keep up the great work with wait staff and food standard: because that was beautiful.
However, please try and sort out the issue of a duplicate ‘Otis Dining Hall’ and also
rethink the contact line. Even if it means only sharing an after hours phone number with reserved patrons.
S. S.
Great food and dinning experience. Staff very friendly and professional. Highlight of the night was the pepper steak and the gnocchi.
A. V.
Great food, atmosphere and very attentive service. It was a pity that the kitchen was slow in getting some food out but the wait staff were more than on the ball by providing updates and even offering complimentary food and drinks. I didn't mind the wait but it may be a cause of annoyance for others. I would recommend the quail, it was my favorite dish of the night. I would probably give the fusilli a miss as it was a bit too heavy and chewy for me.
M. M.
Extremely delicious main courses.
The crispy skin on the barramundi was perfect and the lamb was hearty and cooked just the right amount
The entrees were pleasant and each had their own distinct flavour and uniqueness
The desserts were okay - simple but fine.
Cool atmosphere and decor
Service was great!

There is a nostalgic feel inside this dining hall which used to be a former
It’s the dark timber dinishings, retro dining chairs and the dark amber lighting that gives Otis this relaxed and swinging vibe.
We started with the house-made focaccia with alto olive oil and 20 y.o. Balsamic. For $13 for two slices, we thought this better be some amazing bread. The bread is served as two thick big slices, the top is seasoned with salt and herbs, the bread is extremely soft yet dense and has a slight sweet taste, similar to brioche bread. I only wished they gave us more of the oil and balsamic dip as the ratio of that compared to bread wasn’t enough.
We ordered the signature Otis peppered steak - 220gr aged steak, brandy jus and Silkwood pepper. The steak comes on its own so at least a side is recommended (sides are large enough to share). You are served your as it is with the jus poured on in front of you,4$3 jus has a red velvety gleam to it, it looks thick and luxurious, I can’t wait to try it. I order my steak medium rare and that’s what I get, perfect. The steak has a thick pepper crust on top, there is a strong peppery kick which I like, the jus has a slight vinegar note which balances the pepper steak well.
We ordered a side of brussel sprouts to share. If you don’t normally like sprouts, these will change your mind! Cooked with almond milk ricotta, roasted almond flakes and honey, these sprouts are lightly fried so they are very crispy and crunchy.
Otis was a former one chef hat restaurant and lost its hat in 2018, I thought the steak and sprouts were great, the bread was ok. The wine list was decent, I enjoyed the glass of Grenache that I ordered. There were some kitchen or staff issues on the night we dined as they seemed extremely slow to take our orders and it was difficult to get their attention. This was acknowledged by the manager who on his own account offered us some free coffees to end the meal. Let’s hope Otis can lift their service and try get that coveted chef’s hat sometime in the near future as I think they have potential.
M. B.
Superb food. The chef came out and waited out table for the evening which was great, he's a funny guy who, as you'd expect, knew his food! Portion sizes were perfect. I had the Wallaby for entree and for me it was the highlight, subtle flavours and the perfect start. The table had either the steak or the chicken both of which were perfectly cooked. Sides of post and rocket salad and duck fat roasted potatoes. Desert didn't let us down either. I would absolutely come back.
M. K.
Friendly staff, amazing food and service! Best fine dining restaurant in Canberra so far. Definitely will come back 😊
R. R.
OTIS is superb! I have dined there twice; once in 2017, and on the week of them becoming a double hatted establishment (18 January 2021). Both times were exquisite. The scallops are to die for. The pepper steak was supreme (epic sauce!). The barramundi was cooked to perfection. The desserts were fantastic. The staff had great knowledge of wines and drinks. The service was prompt and complemented the experience. Two-hats - well deserved! I look forward to the next time.
M. J.
Quiet and intimate for a date night. Small - medium portions that tasted great, sides required to fill your tummy. Deserts worthwhile trying :) Was well put together food, enjoyed everything and was a good change for the area. As expected quality for the price, bring your own fun though
S. P.
I've always enjoyed OTIS, this time we went along for the Truffle degustation. The wine and food was tasty, although not strong with truffle. The quality and vibe of the place does seem to have some problems at the moment, no heating in the middle of winter meant the jackets and coats never came off.
S. T.
From when you walk in this place has the most amazing interior, friendly staff and great atmosphere. Once seated and the menu is placed down, you can see that the food is going to exceed the expectation. The choice is small but impressive. The amazing selection is a tribute to chef and the great selection of fresh ingredients. The selection of cocktails and wine are perfect. It also has a great dessert menu. Will definitely be visiting this place again.
I. K.
Food Amazing, hospitality first notch!! so many wines, it's a great experience dinning at OTIS, our 2nd time. Easily my favourite restaurant in Canberra. If your thinking of going, stop and just go!!
S. D.
Absolutely flawless in every way - food, service, beverages. We will be back next time we visit Canberra.
A. J.
Perfection! We attended during Truffle Season. Every single dish hit the mark. And the staff where helpful, knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate. A special shout out to James who gave us a much enjoyed history lesson on wine in Australia while helping us choose a dessert wine.
M. O.
First meal after our road trip to Canberra and we were super impressed. The pork belly was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside and the XO sauce is to die for.
M. P.
Chef’s menu with local wines pairing was spectacular.
Fantastic decor and great service.
F. C.
Otis continues to perform at the level of what is undeniably Canberra's best restaurant as food and service are impeccable. The 5 course tasting menu with bread, canapes is the best value tasting menu in Canberra. The tasting menu is paired with a great range of local wines. Every experience continues to be better than the last.
P. &. S.
Love the food and wine selection! Tried the five course meal and since I am pregnant, they changed the food for me especially and it was really good! Highly recommend this place
T. M.
The service was lovely and the food was really delicious and very reasonably priced at 3 courses for $64. I had the pork belly to start which was spicy but really well balanced. Next I had the pepper steak which just melted in your mouth, and the potatoes and salad green sides were delicious. Finally, the magnum lemon meringue for desert was just a perfect way to end the meal. The restaurant itself is very comfortable and allows decent spacing between tables, also the very well padded chairs were super comfy. My only complaint, the parking in Kingston!
A. H.
The whole experience was fantastic! Atmosphere warm and inviting, Staff friendly and knowledgeable, food was phenomenal!
Saving up to return for my first anniversary with my partner!
C. D.
The best Scollop's I have ever had. My Wife does not like Seafood; however she tried one & boom.... loved them. Pepper Steak..... outstanding. Hats off to the Staff, made us feel welcome from entering.
PS: Asked for a JD & Zero Coke & it actually was (had a few BTW).
Overall, a fantastic night for our 4th Wedding Anniversary. 👍👍😁😁
j. c.
The care and attention to delivering a lovely time was extremely good ,and that chef creating the best flavours , great talent !!Thankyou
N. C.
Highly recommend the degustation "all you can eat" menu. Fantastic food, wonderful staff and a very comfortable atmosphere.
M. M.
Stunning degustation. Really exquisite menu and wine design. An absolute delight. Can't wait for the next menu.

We have been here for a few meals and had our wedding lunch here yesterday. The staff, like always were attentive and knowledgeable. The food, outstanding as always and the whole experience was simply fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble and extra details were thought of to help make up have a very special day. A huge thank you to the team at Otis for making our day just sensational.
A. D. R.
Very enjoyable evening yesterday with some friends. Food was excellent and the staff were not only accommodating of requests but went the extra mile to ensure a thoughtful approach to the meal and drinks. They showed a passion for the food and wine being locally sourced and brought us through the meal with insights into the food we were served.
G. W.
What an amazing dining experience. We were greeted by the enthusiastic and highly energetic Lilly who was our server for the night. The truffle menu was nice, but I can't recommend the service enough. They were very accommodating for our young children. I was going to give them a great review anyway and then they gave my kids a complimentary ice cream desert?!. I wish I could hire a few Lilly's myself.
T. B.
Fantastic food and great service. The chef was really friendly and I would recommend OTIS to everyone do yourself a favour and get the pepper steak. 👌
T. S.
Absolutely stellar execution in every aspect from Otis.
The attentiveness and demeanor of staff, the ambiance, food, drink, music; was all at the top of the game.
This is my new default for fine dining going forward. Otis, thank you for a brilliant birthday dinner, it was a pleasure.
C. G. (.
I can't overstate how amazing the experience of OTIS was. We went there on a Groupon voucher but were treated like royalty. We had an entire truffle menu and every single dish was outstanding.
The manager who served us was incredibly knowledgeable and paired our food with amazing wines, taking feedback and even taking the time to discuss the meals and wines with us.
It was quiet when we were there, but this place deserves all the clientele it can get.
R. P.
A very relaxing dining experience. Friendly and attentive wait staff. We had a ten course degustation with matching wine, and enjoyed each of the dishes. The slow cooked lamb was especially excellent. Would come again!
A. S.
Group of us. Busy but relaxed. They went out of their way to make me a special meal due to my diet. Friendly staff. I apologise for the unnecessary whinging of some of my group. I will definitely be back. A nice even paced quality meal is something I appreciate. Well done for getting back into the swing of a full restaurant.
S. B.
A group of us (five) were so excited to try Otis last night as we heard good report on this restaurant. The menu looks good and the ambience was great. Unfortunately, the food service was appallingly late. We all ordered three course meal and the first course was served to two of my friends and the three of us waited for an hour to have our first course. In between meals we had to wait for 40 minutes. Our order was taken at 7:30pm and we did not get our third course until 10pm. Although the food were tasty (a bit salty to my liking) - I am not coming back to this place. The staff were not even apologetic for their services. Also, on top of all the horrible service, they got the orders wrong. My friend order quail leg and she was given duck sausage......we were too hungry to complain.
a.
The menu has recently changed, either 3 or 5 courses with four choices for each. The food is amazing, well balanced and put together with great flavours and care. The pepper steak is to die for as are the desserts.
The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about their menu and drinks they have available.
We will be back.
G. d. D.
Made a late booking and when we arrived, were quickly seated. Staff were pleasant and polite. It was nice that even though they obviously had had a long and busy day, they still went to the effort to make us feel welcome.
I ordered a Medium pepper steak with brandy ju and it was perfect. The meat so soft and delicious.
K. A.
A 5 star review just isn't enough - if I could give 6 I would. Food was just immaculate in every way. The tortellini especially was brilliant, in fact it was quite possibly the best thing I've ever eaten. Wonderful service by staff and a great relaxed atmosphere. We will be traveling back to Canberra just to eat here again!
C. W.
Fantastic experience. The wait staff were fantastic and the food was absolutely amazing. I highly recommend the tortellini, it was delicious. My only criticism would be that the food was a little slow coming out, but not overly so. I'd recommend this for an intimate dinner with friends.
A. W.
This restaurant has become one of the best in the city, blowing away many of the older fine diners. Every piece of food is delicious and young service team are a breath of fresh air in a city where good service is hard to find.
Cannot recommend the restaurant enough, I would give 10 stars if I could!
B. H.
Wonderful choice by my partner and daughter for my 50th Birthday. Staff were very good with a special mention to Sommelier James who blended excellent knowlwdge with exceptional customer service. Lovely dark moody atmosphere and great food. Will be back again.
J. E.
Great atmosphere, fantastic entrees, very relaxing. Sitting at bar, as it was so busy, was even better then being at a table at this place. Bar staff are engaging and helpful, and make a mean martini too! Made me feel very welcome ( and helps that the food is amazing). Could have a meal made of just a few entrees and would be very happy!
Great to find another fantastic new place.
D. L.
This place is simply amazing! From the moment I walked in the door I knew I was on a winner, the lady that sat us at our table was an absolute gem. With a decent wine list and fabulous food a good night was had by all.
Highly recommended.
G. B.
After a small family wedding we had a banquet dinner at Otis and the food and service was flawless and done with great care. Damien (owner) personally made sure the menu was to our liking and made sure throughout the night to check in, all kindly and unobtrusively. We are very thankful and can't recommend Otis enough for the quality of the food, drink and service.
J. M.
Fine dining with exotic and local ingredients prepared by a talented chef.
A. M.
Staying at a nearby hotel for the night I had wandered around looking for a place to eat. This was the one place that looked inviting from the outside. Entering I found the staff welcoming and the atmosphere cosy and I really loved the way the interior has been decorated. The restaurant wasn't too busy so the service from the staff was prompt. While a little more expensive then your average restaurant the food is of excellent quality. Portions are appropriate to the richness of the food and I walked away feeling very satisfied.
R.
I would have loved to give more stars as the food was terrific. However unfortunately this place really dropped the ball on service.
Our first round of drinks did not come until after our first course.
We decided to do matching wine pairings however staff did not seem to remember we were doing this.
We had to ask at each course for the pairing and whilst the first two wines were explained by staff the last 3 were not.
Our final pairing was completely forgotten and took us 5 minutes to get the attention of staff while our deserts melted.
Like I said, food amazing but this place really needs to step up its service game especially if hatted.
A. B.
Absolutely impeccable service paired with great food and a classy and cozy atmosphere. My girlfriend and I had the 5 course tasting menu. All of the courses were lovely, the best being the pork neck and pumpkin tortellini with truffle. We will definitely return!
T.
Great ambiance and food!
My wife and I tried the 5 course meal a bottle of red and some mocktails. We enjoyed the flavours.
Compared to my experience at other fine dining restaurants in Canberra the back ground music and space between tables was just right to create an intimate environment where you could have a good conversation without the feeling the table next to you were hanging on your conversation. Wait staff were friendly and helpful in explaining the dishes. We will be back.
B. D.
This place is simply incredible. We attended one of their post COVID socially distanced truffle nights and I was simply blown away. The 12 hour slow cooked duck, the pepper steak, the creme caramel are all massive highlights. At double the price it would be a bargain.
J. 1.
This was the first time we'd been here and it was a wonderful dining experience. The food was gorgeous and the service was impeccable. The place exuded a quiet self assurance and confidence in itself. We will most definitely be back here to try some other offerings from the well thought out menu. Even though the portion sizes seemed small we came away feeling full and very impressed with the food quality. Well worth the visit if you love good food!
T. T.
Unfortunate first impression - I would have given this restaurant a 5 star rating but the wait staff really brought down the whole dining experience due to a lack of team cohesion and attention to detail. If this were just a cafe or family diner it be forgivable but for a fine dining restaurant it was lacking.
However the food was impeccable and was some of the best food I’ve eaten. Damian, the head chef, made the experience much more enjoyable and memorable with his explanation of the dishes, witty banter, and delicious food. It’s unfortunate his team could not match this.
M. N.
Seriously good food. Nice vibe, I do think they go a little bit overboard with the formalities, however, the food & wine are sensational. If you have not yet been, I highly recommend this restaurant. I had the yellowfin tuna, chicken pâté, pumpkin tortellini, Otis pepper steak & magnum meringue. I have dined at most restaurants in Canberra & I genuinely believe the pepper steak could possibly be the best steak in Canberra. Absolutely divine. Staff are lovely, special thanks to Kyle & Allen!

Excellent service, 3 course dining was fantastic. Only downside was it was very cold inside. However, would return again and ask for a table near the sunny window. It's a bit pricey but good value for the quality of dishes.

Delicious. Best meal and wine you could hope for. Amazing evening overall.

Ben our waiter was phenomenal, couldn’t have asked for better service, even creating a birthday cocktail for us. Extremely knowledgeable and full of energy. The food was stunning, however the portion sizes during the tasting menu were far too small for the price. 1 shell with ceviche, 1 quail leg, 1 piece of tortellini, 1 piece of pork, 1 piece of bread, quite literally the smallest steak I have ever seen (I laughed loudly) and a good sized creme brulee. Basically I could fit the 5 courses on one regular dinner plate with room to spare. It was delicious but not worth $90 each. An evening where dinner for two including 2 drinks was close to $260. Beautiful food and service but the cost for the meal sizes just isn’t worth it for us. We would come back, just not in a large group (the tasting menu was mandatory).

Had a wonderful night at Otis last night. Beautiful food, wine and service. Cozy decor, too. So nice to see the chef interacting with patrons, we really enjoyed chatting to him. Can't wait to come again soon!

Food was amazing. Service was the let down.
Had the tasting menu and food was great, can't fault it at all. Staff didn't seem to be able to get our wine pairings right, had to ask for them after food was served for most courses. Our initial drinks took so long our food was already served.
So much potential for this restaurant to be great, but needs to improce service.
A. J.
The food was amazing, the wait staff were lovely and you really could tell the wine guy really loved what he did. It was a special atmospheric experience without feeling pretentious.
G. L.
Ambiance was warm & inviting, service was excellent & the food was outstanding.
D. M.
Great staff and good food... but I expected more from a place with a chef hat. 2 of the courses we're amazing and the others only decent. Still good, but I've had better dining experiences in Canberra for the same price.
J. S.
The pepper steak is the best eye fillet I have ever eaten in my life. Everything about the food was flawless - roast duck fat potatoes, light tempura green beans, perfectly cooked steak. This is a must if you're in the ACT and consider yourself a lover of good steak
S. C.
The restaurant feels really luxurious with the wood panelling and comfy leather seats and there's a really relaxed vibe. There's a cracking wine list and the three course menu for $60 is great value. Save some stomach space for the Magnum lemon meringue dessert!

We tried Otis for the first time recently and went for the special truffle set menu. We were both disappointed. The quality of the food was high, but portions were tiny and the wait time between courses was too long. The starter was a mini beef tartare taco. Basically one bite. The next course was mushroom ravioli - delicious, but just one (largish) ravioli each. Still starving at this point, but left unsatisfied by the small wagyu steak (maybe 70 grams?), plus modest sides of mash and salad. Dessert (a scoop of ice cream with nuts and chocolate) did little to fill the hole. Stopped for a burger on the way home. Shouldn't have to after spending close to $200 on dinner. Not inclined to try again.

Decor absolutely stunning.
Friendly & welcoming staff .
Entree delicious , main way too salty .
Observed a rather nasty altercation in the kitchen on my return from the toilet which seemed to alter the entire atmosphere.
We were not approached again by any wait staff , were not offered a desert menu and had to ask for coffee.
Overall we left feeling rather bemused and somewhat disappointed as we had been really looking forward to our nite there .
K. L.
Amazing decor and comfy chairs. Staff are attentive but not annoying. Everything we ordered was delicious, especially the pepper steak! Price is definitely worth it for the experience. Great for a special occasion.
K.
Good feel to the place and the food was cooked beautifully. However overpriced for what you got and the staff were 3*/5 also. The 'lamb shank' was some v lovely lamb shank meat, no bone, covered in pasta sheet to disguise how little there was
C. A.
fantastic food and friendly service. great service that and I love that the chef personally comes out with your food and then later checks if everything is ok and up to standard.. They may need a few more vegetarian options. And definitely make sure you book early on Friday and Saturday nights
D. M.
The food was outstanding. The staff are excellent. The wine guy really knows his stuff and is entertaining to boot.
O. L.
My friend and I had such a lovely night here. The staff and owner were all helpful, friendly and knowledgeable - and the food was divine! It is clear that a genuine passion for flavours and the 'dining experience' is shared by the crew at Otis. The food tasted fresh and delicious and I would recommend this place to my friends for sure.

Amazing food and service. I love that the chef personally comes out with your food and then later checks if everything is ok. My only suggestion is a few more vegetarian options. And definitely make sure you book on Friday and Saturday nights.

Went to Otis for the truffle dinner, it was delicious 👌
G. M.
Great meal & wine. Good friendly service. Enjoyed scallops & oysters entre. Cowra lamb & shank with duck fat potatoes. Victoria Cheddar cheese with rice crackers. Great wine choice.
I. M.
Overpriced. You can get far better for the money at many of Canberra's finer dining places. Chicken was dry. Nothing accompanying the steak. Small portions. It's almost a parody, rolling out the cliches of expensive fine dining.
E. T.
Wonderful service, impeccable meals. We were thoroughly satisfied with the quail and pork belly starters, and our mains (pepper steak) were devine. We will definitely go back!
A. M.
Had a great experience. Atmosphere, interior design, great food and great service by our host India. Highly recommend the barramundi and laksa and the brussell sprout dish. Forgot the full name of it but it was amaaaazing!!
A. B.
Fantastic food, very friendly staff. Highly recommend this place, especially the KFQ quail!
L.
Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I would go for a few drinks and the entrees (these are amazing). Awesome old school atmosphere! Would highly recommend the raviolo, pate and kangaroo tartare
J. A.
Superb dining and great staff. Could not recommend more. :)
C.
Perfect timing, late lunch Wednesday. Not busy, great service and food. Steak tartare sublime, as was the rest of the meal. Will go again to try the salted wallaby... and the Cowra lamb and... and...
S.
I love this place. I will go to OTIS soon again.

During truffle season this is the best restaurant to dine at in Canberra. They seat you in a hall and serve at 6pm or 8.30pm for dinner.
P. W.
Outstanding food with some eclectic items. Excellent range of wines with knowledgeable sommelier. Attentive service, but some wait staff don't seem to know the menu very well.
S. S.
A great addition to Kingston and it's dining options. An inspired selection of tap beers in a warm and inviting setting. Very much worth your time. Adam and the crew will look after you!
J. W.
Main sized portions could have been a little larger and I suspect an extra waiter would have kept service up a little better. Nice ambience to the place and the food was of a good standard.
M. W.
Delicious food. Excellent service. Clean, calm and comfortable atmosphere. Thank you for an enjoyable evening.
B. R.
An incredible experience with lovely staff and a fascinatingly varied selection of courses that send you on an interesting journey between artfully linked cuisines. An awesome experience in an awesome venue.
M. J.
Probably one of the best meals i have had in my life. The steak was phenomenal, and the cream caramel was the perfect finish. Well done Chef Damien.
M. A.
Very well executed. The signature pepper steak was magnificent. And to top it all off, the proprietor appreciates a good glass of port. Highly recommended.
B. G.
Came here for dinner tonight, loved it! Great good and service - i would just suggest that the music be a little louder as it was a little awkward and silent when the restuarant wasnt very busy at the start of the night and i would suggest the lighting be a little dimmer :)
M. B.
Great meal, excellent service and pretty reasonably priced for an upmarket restaurant. Wine selection looked solid. Beers ok - always good to see PACT on tap.
B. O.
Impeccable service accompanies delicious well presented food. I found the wait staff to be attentive and knowledgeable and the food both looked and tasted amazing. I am looking forward to going back soon!

I visited Otis Dining Hall whilst in Canberra recently. Both the service and food was amazing. The pepper steak is a must.
K. P.
Very slow getting our meal, but when it did arrive it was very nice. Oysters were on the menu but not available, same with the sparkling wine. Very noisy.
A. R.
Modern bistro with good but weird winelist. Can be outstanding or just good. Loved the barramundi dish. Have a glass of muscat de beaumes de venise for dessert.
N. T.
Wonderful experience. Delightful staff and great food.
R. W.
Great food they tailor to even the fussiest of eaters the recommendations of wine to compliment the food was on point 100% will be back
S. P.
Food good - service verrry average - value for money debatable. Third visit - service not great considering price on 2 out of 3. Probably wont see us again.
S.
The food and service was great. But the toilets were disgusting. It looked like the public toilets in a train station that hasn't been cleaned for weeks! Gross!
J. M.
Excellent fine dining restaurant. Was made a specific dish by the chef to my liking. Excellent staff. Worth the price
A. G.
Got a groupon deal for the 10 course degustation, Thought the food and wine was delicious, but was a little confused as we only got 7 courses including bread and dessert?
M. L.
Had the pork belly, pepper steak and duck fat baked potatoes. Very nice OTIS lager beer. Exceptional service too
A. K.
Fine dining with excellent service!
M. S.
The food was very enjoyable. We did wait fifteen minutes after arriving to get some water but after this initial hiccup the night turned out well.

Love the 3 course menu. Service and food was great. Even impressed my fiancé who is hard to impress! Great place for a bday dinner.

It’s been a while since I have been impressed .... let’s start with the wait staff most where good but our waiter Trevor from San Diego was exceptional... we have dietry requirements and they where met and the food still exceptional.

Utterly satisfied. The all you can eat option provided an array of delicious food both surprising and excellent. Highly recommended.

Shows lots of promise, but didn't quite hit the mark for service. Food was decent but expensive.
