Simple and delicious! Easy 5 star. Super unpretentious food, space and staff. I went to Italians and sons the night before and I definitely liked the food here more. They have a selection of wines from the Canberra vineyard region but they also have a great selection of wines from Italy.

I heard about the this place from some of my work colleagues. "Simple and Delicious" they said. So I went to try it for myself. We ordered the lamb and the beef, both of which were so tender they almost melted in your mouth. The other items in the dishes complemented the flavours and worked well to complete them. The wine was also very good. We both have a sweet tooth so we ordered a Muscat and a Moscato. Both of the wines had a nice sweet and deep flavour which stood out from store bought variants. I found the service was generally quite good. Our server was friendly, but not overly so. I liked the older man who served our wine. I unfortunately didn't catch his name but he really made us feel special. 5/5. Planning to go back again to try more of the menu!

Don't worry I did not eat all these desserts, they were for the people around me, but they were so amazing I had to take a snap. I loved the place, loved the staff who were totally organised in sorting out gluten free bread & a gf main for me, food was superb as was the service. The Italian place is nice cozy restaurant that makes you feel like you’re in Italy! The lively, busy and uplifting atmosphere is really something unique. All the staff are super hardworking and try their best to assist you navigating the menu. We had a range of dishes from the seared scallops to beef steaks, pork fillets and squid ink pasta. I would say that all the dishes were cooked nicely, the flavours were nice and presentation not bad. Though most of the dishes were too salty for our liking which might have been a one off occurrence. But overall a recommended place for catch up with friends or a special occasion.

WOWWWW MY BEST MEAL YET IN CANBERRA!!! firstly the service was amazing, we got there early and they were happy to let us start drinking. Wow the pasta is the stand out, we shared two entrees and 4 mains between three because we couldn’t miss out. It was all amazing and the chefs were fabulous. The pace of food arriving was perfect, we had time to socialise, enjoy the food but never felt like we were waiting. Delicious food served fast, and with friendly service. The place is modern but the menu items have a genuine Italian feel to them. The menu isn't large, especially for vegetarians, but what's there is delicious and varied. Even the espresso was good. Bonus, its also a deli with great items to buy. Highly recommended.

As someone who lives half the year in Italy, I tend to avoid Italian restaurants in Australia because I am an insufferable pain. This Italian Place however was a pleasant surprise. It doesn't attempt to do too much with the menu, and it obviously puts a great deal of thought into it's daily menu. As an Enoteca, the wines and drinks here take centre stage. It was crowded and pumping when we arrived for our 6pm booking, and had to vacate our table for the later sitting that evening, which we had been made aware of when booking, It attests to it's well deserved popularity.

The Itlalian Place is has one of the most authentic Italian food you will find in Canberra or even Sydney. The owner Tony is so wonderful and so welcoming every time we are there. Our waiter Tom is also an absolute gem. He always knows exactly what we want, food drinks you name it. We had a birthday recently they made sure it was perfect for the birthday girl. Always happy to go back every time.

Took my friend to lunch for her birthday yesterday and what a special lunch it was. The welcome was warm and the food (we had three courses) was so delicious as were the Italian cider and my Pinot Grigio. My friend Sharon had the Ravioli with Asparagus followed by Gelato and I had the Sicilian Spaghetti with Sardines, currants, pine nuts and more yum ingredients followed by Tiramisu. The guys even sang the HB song to my friend which was so sweet. Loved the atmosphere, great service and the red tablecloths. Thank you all. We will return.

Finally we have an authentic Italian restaurant in Braddon! This cosy restaurant has a limited menu with daily specials and what they do, they do well. Their ravioli was a standout and they have a good selection of Italian wines. We went on a busy Friday night and still received timely meals and excellent service. The staff were very friendly. We were encouraged to leave a tip when we were settling the bill, which is always a little awkward in an Australian setting.

It was a treat to be back for lunch at The Italian Place after months away! It did not disappoint; we both had the sourdough fritters (zeppole) with mozzarella and anchovy, and the squid ink linguine with mussels, clams and prawns, and everything was wonderful including the warm friendly service. The wine Tony recommended was delicious. Our sole regret was that we had left no room for gelato or... Next time. A gem of a place, unfussy, great food, lovely service, feels like a slice of Italy.

We wanted a long Sunday lunch and this was the perfect choice for my partner and I. We had an amazing waitress named Maria and got to meet the owner Tony. The staff were all wonderful and got on so well with one another it was a treat to be there and feel part of them all. The food was divine and very authentic mainly northern Italian cuisine. From our starter the grilled large prawns in shell with crumbs, herbs and lemon, so yummy. The traditional cream free Carbonara was incredible and a dish we didn't want to end eating. Next the Bugs in a broth with greens, really good and healthy. The Tiramisu and Hazelnut gelato a perfect finish. We really loved this place and enjoyed our long Sunday lunch tremendously.

I had heard only positive things about this restaurant and couldn't wait to visit and dine. Unfortunately our first attempt was cancelled due to covid, but as soon as we were able we booked a table. In a word - Wow! the service was attentive but not over the top - very friendly. The food was amazing, and even though I was delighted with what I ordered I had food envy for what my wife ordered and even the table next to us. The dessert (we shared) was the perfect finish, and the whole experience was just, how you say "bellissimo"! We will be back. Ate most of the selection on offer. The Blue eyed Cod (every fresh and naturally flavoured ), Cabonara was a bit cold so the cream had gone a bit hard, antipasto wonderful because again the fresh seasonal vegetables were perfectly cooked very lightly flavoured with some herbs. The Salad🥗 Apple 🍏 and palmasan was crispy and as a side dish it was a compliment for most of the mains. I prefer Lamb shanks on the bone, however slow cooked deboned was also very nice. The pasta fungi was exceptional in flavour again because of the quality product used. Main criticism was that the menu was limited, I would have liked to choose a couple more have have a wide range of food categories to select from, especially if I were a vegetarian. Also as for the Starters and Mains, because of the limited range the vegetarian may want to varying sizes of some dishes.

The atmosphere is lovely. When they served berads with Italian condiments I knew we were on a winner. But there was something about the oil that wasn't quite right. The pastas are spot on in flavour. We enjoyed the deserts. But the coffee - definitely not Italian.

Popped in on Anzac Day for coffee and food, the ham, cheese, tomato and the Spinach and Fetta Frittata were delicious. The cakes were very tempting, but I was to full. It’s also a shop so had a look around, also a Deli section. The Restaurant the night before was fully booked when we went to eat, the smells coming from the place smelt delicious, so next time we visit Canberra we definitely will make a booking!

Went there for the first time with my friends. I had the carbonara and my friends had Maccheroncini and gnocchi. My carbonara was salty AF - the noodles were delicious but the taste of the bacon overpowers the whole dish, all I could taste was the bacon. I couldnt even finish the whole thing and only ate half of the place. The maccheroncini was also salty AF.. even saltier than my carbonara and my friend couldn't even ate more than half. Gnocchi was okay, nothing special. We had the eggplant parmigiana as an entree and that was the most delicious food we had out of the 3 pastas that we've ordered. The tiramisu and pudding were also good. We've told the guy at the counter who took our payment that our dishes were too salty... no response at all... I've heard so many people who said the food were delicious but because I had such high expectations, that night was such a disappointment. Tried it once and will be coming back for the entree but definitely not the pasta.

What an iconic Canberra gem this place this is! Authentic italian flavours and tastes. The bruschetta alone was incredible (I kept ordering more and couldn’t stop)! The pastas on the menu change seasonally, but each dish is so thoughtfully planned out in flavours, vibrancy and taste. If the carbonara ever falls on the menu when you go, you’ve got to try it - you haven’t had carbonara until you’ve had the truly authentic (no cream) and delicious carbonara here! If you are in Canberra you MUST eat here. This was recommended to us by friends who raved about it, they were right. It is rave worthy. I visited The Italian Place with a friend for lunch. I went because I knew that Tony is a delightful person and one of the most hospitable hosts I have every encountered in a restaurant, and I was keen to see how his new venture was going. I was not disappointed. Both my friend and I were blown away by the quality of the food, and the coffee was the best I have had in Canberra (and that is saying something as Canberra has some of the best coffee in Australia - if not the world!). We were given a generous portion of bread when we arrived (lovely bread) and our water bottle was replaced regularly. Service was prompt and friendly. We left feeling very happy with the whole experience. I purchased some freshly made pasta (my son loves pasta!) and some pickled vegetables (vegs from Tony's garden!) on my way out. It is so good to be able to purchase fresh pasta. There does not seem to be anywhere in Canberra I know of you can get fresh pasta on days when the market is not open. Now I you know!

I must say each time I go here I end up with a smile on my face. I have been here 3 times and with different people to really test this place out. my favourites are the orecchiette sausage pasta, the fresh fish specials but even more so, the sfogliatella. There are not flavours that Canberran's are used to! I have travelled the world eating Italian food and although this is not a traditional menu it has very authentic flavours and a spin on the classics. I was really impressed with the food, the service staff are well trained and really nice. The look and feel could be dressed up to be more upmarket to match the quality of everything else but it has a casual feel now that makes it easy for people to walk in. Sometimes it's hard to get a table! It's very unsuspecting on the quality from the outside but if you go here, i'm sure you'll have a wonderful experience.

The food was plentiful with platters of antipasto with plenty of bread followed by bruschetta which was very tasty and delicious. I ordered fish of the day which was very disappointing however there was a caprese salad and side salad that also came out which was more than enough..we ordered a few desserts which were delicious, the staff were very attentive and friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

Seriously good, real Italian dishes! Went for dinner with a group of fellow Italians (visiting from Italy), we were all impressed. I had orecchiette, babà and cassata - it was all outstanding. Home-made fresh pasta and gnocchi, original desserts, great specials. Not cheap, however prices are still reasonable and definitely worth it. The setting could be better, but their food - if it's Italian you're after - is hard to beat.

I’ve been here five times since it opened, and have enjoyed each meal. Very traditional, casual Italian osteria. The host, Tony, is well-known to Canberrans and it is great to see him plus his chef partner striking out on their own with a concept that fits very comfortably with the city. The food is quite simple and very well prepared; a blackboard menu supplements the printed version with specials drawn from what is freshly available. If there is a seafood pasta special (and you like seafood) you should choose. The antipasto boards are great for a group to start, combined with bruschetta or calamari; the serves are generous and you will not leave hungry. Tony has assembled an excellent cellar with emphasis on southern Italian/Sicilian winemakers. Seek his advise, and you will enjoy some of the best Italian wines in the country. Or, you can just drop in for a coffee and pastry, a glass of wine with some Italian snacks, or pick up some handmade pasta, a sauce and some hard-to-get deli items. The Italian Place is magnifico!!
