Funky modern restaurant, love the decor and vibes here. Food was delicious. Came here with kids and the staff were able to accomodate them for certain items ie remove the chilli or add to the side only. Not too many options for those who do not like spice like young kids. All the chicken dishes were a hit with the kids, even the fried one which was only little bit spicy/peppery.

Zaab is a trendy restaurant along Lonsdale street across the street from the Civic Pub. Lots of young good looking couples so popular with 20-30s. They serve Southeast Asian fusion dishes, wild cocktails served in plastic bags, and good “small bites”. Staff was friendly and quick. I tried the Beef Massamun which is beef cheeks, mild curry, sweet potato chips, over a potato mash which was good but not a huge portion. For small stuff I tried pork larb bites. Fun restaurant but portions were small considering the price .

Not sure what restaurant some of the most recent reviewers visited - I had the set menu and we couldn't finish it! The food was tasty and interesting (although the small eats and bites look more interesting than the massamun provided in the banquet, which was a little underwhelming). Biggest issue though is the 1.5 hour seating limit. We were hurried out having barely finished our mains. Only two waitresses the night we were there couldn't keep up with drinks orders (lost of one mine) and that's a shame; staying for an extra half an hour I would have loved to be able to enjoy another cocktail.

Fantastic Lao/Thai Canberra venue. Visiting Zaab after a long absence confirmed that it remains one of the best eateries in Braddon's bustling Lonsdale Street. Every single dish served was fresh, flavourful and playfully original. The betel leaf starter is playful, the ceviche was fresh, the barramundi had the right spiciness to accentuate the barramundi without overpowering it. To top it off, the cocktails were fabulous and the wait staff were outstanding in their friendliness and professionalism. A must go Canberra venue.

Like most places Zaab has had to adapt to survive, and they're now investing heavily in the set menu, and cutting back on the choices on the a la carte menu. This means a few of our much-loved dishes appear to have gone, but the reward is an excellent value collection of dishes for either $59, or $79 (the latter including cocktail). The $59 contains just about everything we'd choose anyway, such as the superb Betel Leaf, Chicken Satay, Charcoal Chicken and Beef Massamun. They have a separate vegan menu, and have no problems switching out items for dietary requirements like gluten free (which, in our case, meant we got the Lao Sausage instead of the Grilled Pork, which we preferred). This place is packed, so, there's not much social distancing going on, and turnover is fast, so they feed you quickly. But the food is superb, service excellent, and its great value for the quality.

Had a fantastic night out with bestie. Great mocktail and lychee cocktail. The food we ordered is like fusion Asian food with a crunchy taste. In terms of the size, it’s pretty small if you are expecting something worth $30-40 a dish.

I can only report the most positive things about Zaab! The food was amazing (the eggplant was especially delicious- possibly the best eggplant dish I’ve ever eaten), they handled multiple dietary requirements perfectly and graciously having given them no notice and they handled our very loud, rowdy group so well (apologies about that!). I'm left confused. It's not a fine dining place, neither is it a place where you go to get value for money. It's not particularly trendy either. Compared to other restaurants in Braddon, Zaab is like an awkward teenager establishing its identity in a world of wannabe hipsters. Or am I just too old to understand what's trendy these days? Bad reviews are not necessarily critiquing food or service, although it may seem that way. This place has poor branding/ identity. The tongue skewers were nice though. Do try them!

Got the feed me set menu and it was delicious. Really enjoyed the place , food and drinks! Overall I really liked the different flavors , from the sour green salsa that paired well with the charcoal chicken to the delicious beef massamum. The grilled pork, although simple, was also soft and paired well with the soy sauce. One of my favorites though were the satay skewers, you could really tell the peanuty flavors apart. Finally, I loved the variety of cocktails, some really were really sweet like the watermelon massacre but super refreshing and delicious. My favorite though was the crazy coconut , fresh and sweet.

Despite living in Canberra for over 5 years this was my first visit to Zaab. From the moment we arrived the staff were attentive and friendly. We were greeted by the loveliest waitress who made our night. We felt so welcome and her knowledge of the food really set the tone for what was to come. Exceptional Thai and Lao fusion food. We ordered the crying tiger which was probably one of the best we’ve ever had. Loved the citrus chilli twang to this dish. Our hero dish was the Lao sausage which was so delicious! This was also accompanied by a juicy whole flamed cauliflower and a succulent charcoal chicken. I mean what’s not to love. Our chicken was accompanied by three sauces we’d never had a Thai Verde sauce and wow it was good! Also the nut free satay left regular satay sauces for dead. This was one our best dining experiences ever. Great food, great wine and all served up with a smile.

As well as usual for ladies night and have a great beverages of cocktails 🍹 at here, always is my first choice for cocktails night place. Been a while didn’t visit here but everything so far foods and drinks is still so well and yummy. Highly recommended for you as my favorite drinks is crazy coconut 🥥 and watermelon cocktails, for person whose like abit tonic added, you may try jasmine tonic - light & easy. Foods recommended- Lao Sausages, crying tiger (medium rare grilled beef slice serves), crispy tofu, Grilled pork, Charcoal Chicken and Satays ! Yumm!

Funky bass tones, a slick atmosphere and very friendly staff. The food was outstanding. Equal best pad see ew I've ever eaten (and that's a lot)! Just enough sauce and some slight char on the vegetables. The chicken skewers had an amazing, thick satay sauce and crispy tofu was surrounded with light, crispy noodles that soaked up the sweet, tangy sauce that also had a nice burst of chilli.

It’s a combination of lounge bar and restaurant. The food was really good, and the service is high standard! Three of us had a pad Thai, charcoal chicken, fried tofu and soft shell crab salad for share. The portion was pretty big, and was delicious as well. Will definitely come again in the future. By the way, recommend to book a table before coming here. It’s pretty popular, if come during dinner time will need to wait for a bit. But you can grab a drink at the bar while waiting as well.

Zaab is good food but very overpriced with small (obviously, street food) sized portions. I ordered online and had multiple members of staff emerge to question and quiz me on my order before they would relinquish the paper bag. My partner and I ate here yesterday and we both left with nothing but good things to say about this place. Firstly, the food was GREAT, really great menu too, loads of different meat options and as we both diet a lot the fact that they had the option of a low calorie side of steamed veggies is just great for us! You could quite easily have a delicious diet friendly meal here or a super indulgent one! Secondly, the cocktails were AMAZING, unfortunately I didn’t catch the bartenders name but he really knew his stuff when it came to cocktails as every cocktail we had was the perfect balance of flavour. I love Zaab! I have been here a number of times and it is definitely one of my favourite restaurants in Canberra. The service is always impeccable. There are loads of delicious food options and the feed me's are definitely worth while. The vibe is always great and you never have to wait too long for the food. The food was beautiful, the staff were friendly. Best part however, was how comfortable they were with having a celiac in the group. Most places, the staff tend to go back and forth with the chef to confirm what can be done, our waitress knew exactly what had to be seperate for her. Informed us exactly what she couldn’t have out of the set menu we picked, and happily provided alternatives without so much as batting an eye lid. Somewhere we will certainly come back to again!

Balcony chairs & tables are high chairs, keep that in mind if you want to order food. The ambience and the service is excellent. The food is good but not superb. The barramundi was our favourite and the massaman curry it’s also delicious. I was hoping to love the Angus beef entree but it was just ok. Zaab is one of my favourite places to eat out in Canberra. We have had many dinners here for birthdays, Christmas parties & date nights and without fail the food is always beautifully presented and so full of fresh delicious bursts of flavours. I've only been the once so far, but the food here is excellent, and it has a great atmosphere. The flavours are spot on, and everything I tried from the tasting menu was delicious. The staff deserve a special mention as they went well beyond what I'd call good service; actually surprising me at times with their hospitality (free food, accommodating dietary needs, etc.) The beer list could be improved, but that's about the only negative thing I could say about the place.

Consistently great food and good service. Would be good if they added potential spice ratings to their menu though as it is not always clear how spicy the dish will be. Did the $49 Feed Me banquet for two people and was not disappointed! Great bar/restaurant in Canberra. Went there for dinner few weeks ago, felt like eating in a bar rather than a restaurant but my friend who visits America often tells me this is quite common in the States. Our bartender acted as waiter as well (we sat at the bar). Very knowledgeable and helpful he was. Food was modern Thai, interesting and delicious. Still felt little strange eating there, the group on our right was rowdy group of girls on a night out, downing shots, and on our right, a quite couple having a drink.

I've come here a few times and it is very good. Yesterday I got takeaway with my mum and we both got the veggie pad thai (which I have had multiple times) and its so yummy and I'm very glad they are still open right now because I just really wanted to eat some good thai food at home in isolation. This is like a Thai street party in the heart of Canberra - I recommend the "Feed Me" option which will be whatever the chef feels.like cooking you, taking any dietary needs into consideration.
