Comments of Hanuman

Great food, good customer service, we pre order via email so maybe that's the reason why food preparation time didn't take long time
J. 1.
Fantastic restaurant which definitely lives up to its reputation. The food was fantastic, the service wonderful and the venue classy. The food from different regions adds nice variety.
J. D.
Thai food was nice but not spectacular.
We tried 3 different dishes each one was 'OK' we actually expected better.
We wanted to order desserts but nobody came to take our order so after waiting half an hour we decided to pay our bill and try somewhere else for our sweets.
The restaurant is nicely furnished with very pleasant staff and nice atmosphere.

Glad to have found a table, on a random Tuesday night even! Our waitress (Michelle) suggested what to order and when asked for more spicy, it came as what we expected ! Chicken and beef is halal, but you can always check again before ordering to make sure the info is updated. Their chicken satay was of Malaysian style, that’s a rare find! Jackfruit curry was mindblowing good and thick gravy.
The dessert didn’t have enough pandan flavour, but otherwise all else is good!

Absolutely adore Hanuman. The butter chicken is the best we've had in Darwin by a long stretch. We also shared the tasting plate, and the money bags surprised us with how amazing they were. Highly recommend, amazing interior decoration as well. Great place to take people for a nice dinner out.
J. J.
Food and atmosphere is great. Prices are on the mid to high range so I usually only go here for special occasions. Really like the South East Asian decor and their Indian and Thai curries. Whenever the Darwin festival rolls around I always get their butter chicken or chicken chettinad from their stall. Highly recommend for dinner with a date or a small group.
S. A.
We ate here as a family last night 26/1/22. Absolutely fantastic service, food came out quick and most importantly was delicious. Highly recommend coming here if visiting Darwin. Slightly $ but worth it.
D. C.
Delectable cuisine with variety of dishes. Taste and flavours of the dishes we had were on point and reminiscent of its origins. Efficient and friendly service with a smile. Great dining experience.

If you like Indian food, no forget that, if you like food, don't miss Hanuman.
I've struggled to find good Indian food in Australia, so I never miss Hanuman when I'm in Darwin.
My favourite Indian restaurant in Australia.
Not just the food, the other hard to get in Australia is good service, Hanuman always look after you well.
E. J. D. D.
Absolutely loved this place! Best Indian food I have ever tried. The duck curry is now on my top dishes ever tasted.
Service was great, although servers should be a bit proactive and when a table of 2 asks for 4 pappadams maybe tell them they're actually ordering 4 BASKETS of pappadams. We had to return 3 baskets as one had 6 in it.
I will be back and will be referring people here for sure.
P. D.
Top class food with service. Environment was good. Staffs were friendly and helpful. We have enjoyed our time. Highly recommend.

High quality of plates!
I love the food here and all mixed appetiser was tasty!
Phat Thai noodle was tasty with fresh big prawns!
I will definitely come next time to try other dishes when I travel NT again!
A. J. A.
Ordered crispy fish medium and the classic butter chicken to celebrate my bday. Cleaned our plates except for few leftover fish because we are already full. Food always 5/5. Fiance loved them and of course she had 2 passionfruit mojito which is her favourite drink at the resto. Would def come back.

I first visited Hanuman back in the 1990's, and now again twice on a holiday to Darwin just last week. It was great back in the 1990's - even better now. Not afraid of spicing things up and keeping dishes authentic to their heritage. Well done to the team at Hanuman.
D. A. P. V.
I think it’s the most beautiful restaurant in Darwin. Food is so so delicious.
J. A.
Jimmy Shu's Hanuman is a must visit. This place oozes quality from the service to the food and wine selection. An extensive menu that has been well considered with flavours from all parts of Asia. The portion sizes are generous to a fault and fortunately we were able to take the leftovers home. An overall excellent experience.

Upon arriving in Darwin from Adelaide, we were looking for somewhere really nice to eat. A friend recommended Hanuman’s and we were not disappointed! I ordered a delicious curry Barramundi and my husband had the Meen Moolie. We also shared the garlic bread which was crispy and tasty. Mango Lassi was delicious but I just thought it was quite small as I’m used to a tall glass of it. Service was very welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere is relaxing. A very nice, well presented restaurant. Will definitely return next time when in Darwin.
D. K.
I haven't been here in years due to disappointing reviews but maybe because of that we were pleasantly impressed. Tom Yum soup was a bit disappointing but the rest was really good including the cocktail! It was really busy and I'm glad we got a table.
S. D.
We went there for our 6th anniversary, heard a lot about the food yes I loved the food we had two curries and one entree beautifully cooked and served with reasonable price.
But they can do better in terms of communication and service as we waited for someone to ask us about drinking water for 15 minutes! But no one approached us until we requested.
The wait staff was approached other tables but us for the verbal reviews or anything else should we need but we never been approached by any staff other than orders it just made us feel unwelcoming. For food they deserve 4 star but I expected the restaurant to treat every customer or guests equally. So I gave a 3star.
S. Y.
Indian-Thai fusion restaurant. A little on the pricey side, and the service was average. Waitress forgot our beer orders a few times. Food quality was good. Deep fried whole fish was delicious, as was the duck red curry. Amex accepted, great for large groups but book ahead.
K. F.
Relaxed and enjoyed lovely evening here. The service was friendly and professional, the best Butter Chicken I’ve ever tasted. The Garlic Naan was superb, soft and fluffy. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone.
J. B.
Had heard good things but was honestly quite disappointed. Have had much better curries at a standard Indian takeaway. Service was also quite poor, we had to stand up and walk to the front to place our order. Quite disappointed for an expensive meal.
J. M.
Fantastic service, definitely lives up to it's reputation as one of the best restaurants in Darwin. I had the kang kong stir fry and jackfruit curry with coconut rice, and it was all delicious.
G.
This restaurant has always been great for food and service. Staff excellent. Oysters and whole fish best ever, cheese and onion naan pretty good also. JUST WISH IT WAS IN GOLD COAST ALSO
M. 4. a.
Prawns with ginger came out swimming in coconut cream which was disappointing as the menu description made it seem like they would be fresh and light. Nasi Goreng rice was plain. Fried wontons were very well cooked.
There is more room in Hanuman Darwin but the quality is slightly lower than Alice Springs.
H. J.
Great Food and Location. Excellent Service by staff. Special Thanks to Ashika for her friendly service.
J. H.
Always enjoy the fabulous food one of my favourite places to dine out
R. K.
One of the best indian cuisine restaurant I have been, everyting was fresh and tasted authentic.
J. T.
I've been to Hanuman about 4 or 5 times in the last couple weeks as they're takeout lunch offer is tasty and decent value for money (2 meat curies plus rice for AUD 17). I've enjoyed eating the chicken Chettinad, chicken tikka massala and lamb korma. I tried the butter chicken about a year ago which I found far too mild. The Malaysian fish curry is also nice but at AUD 29.50 without rice for a takeout I find a bit on the pricey side.
J. F.
Hanuman sets the standard for fresh food with vibrant flavours. Thoroughly enjoyed the pork belly and roti, and the meals of others in our big group all looked (and smelled) very appealing. Pictures are of the pork belly, roti and chicken tikka masala.
Meals aren’t the cheapest, but worth the price.
The wait staff weren’t particularly memorable. Was told that no tandoori things would be available at lunch time as the tandoori oven would not be on. The only other downside would be that they make lemon, lime & bitters using soda water - it might sound crazy, but it really does change the drink.
Hope to dine here again soon, and look forward to trying the Alice Springs restaurant when there in a few months’ time.
J. P.
Service was delightful, and the food so perfectly seasoned and balanced with flavour
P. G.
Great food. Lovely staff. Excellent dessert 🍨
M. L.
Unfortunately the quality of food is dropping
Second time there now where the food certainly does not match the price point and the service is held up by a couple of staff members carrying the rest
A real shame
Was a great place with food n service to match
Not any more tho
D. H.
The atmosphere is very nice, the food selection is very good. The vegetarian choices were very good. Very nice staff
S. F.
Excellent food and service as usual! Very busy night but we did not have to wait long. Very nice evening.
B. C.
I loveeeeed Hanuman. Authentic dishes and most importantly they had chili crab special which was spectacular. One of best singapore chili crab I had. Definitely out beats the ones I had in singapore. Highly highly recommend. Will be visiting again soon. Ps was only able to take a shot after we finished our crab, it was THAT delicious!
A. P.
I loved every visit to Hanuman..Great service.
Awesome, delicious food and cocktail,s. My favorite cusine.. Terrific atmosphere.
C. K.
The chef is a bit heavy on the salt for the Tom Yum and Satay Sauce. We like the barra curry but for me not so much for the duck curry, personally I feel duck meat don't go well with curries, they are tastier if roasted or braised in Chinese style. In saying this, the duck meat is tender and perfectly cooked. All the wait staff are really nice and not pushy. They take time to explain the dishes to us and also show us the portion size of the dishes as we don't want to order too much and waste anything we can't finish. We enjoyed our dining experience here. Well done Jimmy Shu!
B. M.
Entrees where amazing Tandori lamb cutlets and chicken Tikka both large serves. Mains all a little disappointing. Not bad but not amazing. Duck curry, pork belly and lamb korma. Dessert black rice brullee was the best dish of the night. Service was good. Disappointed with a $4 charge for a bottle of tap water and $5 for sparkling water obviously just aerated on the premises.
B.
the foods are sooo amazing, especially for pork belly and whole crispy fish. so yummy
T. J.
If you haven't been to the Hanuman, then what are you doing?! The Hanuman is part of the fabric of Darwin and an absolute 'must do' destination - exceptional Asian food, drinks, ambience and location. You will not be disappointed!!
D. J. J.
The chef here has a refined feeling for texture, colour, blending of flavours and spices. Wonderful!
S. T.
Came here at the suggestion of some friends from melbourne and new Zealand. Amazing food, service and the quality of the produce is definately evident. The house special oysters and the Malaysian fish curry (with the best barramundi) was full of flavour but didn't over power the quality of the fish and its natural flavour. I hope the chef comes back to Melbourne one day!
Z. G.
Great darwin restaurant, if you have your own fish or mud crab they'll cook it for $15. Such a good deal and ours was incredibly tasty. Service was great too, but I recommend booking ahead. Great selection of cocktails too.
r. p.
The food was amazing, the staff was very helpful. We might have ordered too much food, because everything on the menu looked interesting. Everything we ordered was great, and exceeded our expectations.
C. C.
Had dinner with some friends at this restaurant last week. Was told it is owned by the master chef and TV personality Jimmy Shu. He was at the restaurant earlier so we missed him when we got there.
Restaurant was very busy.
Food was very good and the service exceptional.
The cuisine is a mixture of Indian, Thai, Chinese.
Normally when there’s too much mixture, the dishes don’t come out right, but this definitely works.
A. T.
A good place for fine dining in the NT region.
serving Asian food (Malaysia, Indian and Thailand).
Barramundi curry (Meen Moolie) and the Butter chicken is the highlight in this restaurant.
The restaurant ambience is nicely decorated with soft lighting.
The portion is rather small but the meal is high quality.
G. H.
If you love Asian food, this is definitely the place for you. Our food tonight was sensational as usual and service impeccable. Highly recommended.
S. C.
Food is ALWAYS fantastic, not a single bad entree or main. Staff are friendly. Rolled myself out of there like usual!
E.
We stayed at the hotel above and needed a takeaway meal. The food was so tasty, probably one of the best takeaway meals we have ever had. We had garlic naan, duck curry and pad Thai. So delicious, and we like spicy. Hanuman hit the spot!
D. G.
Nice fine dining ambience & usually beautiful flavours of Indian, Thai & Malay food with eclectic mix of sculptures. But tends to be overpriced & some food made better than others
C. C.
Supurb!! Our meal was without fault. Great service. It is a very large restaurant which is tastefully decorated. A little noisey and acoustics probably need fine tuning to remedy this. We had chicken Tikka which is best we have ever had. For our main we chose whole crispy skin fish which had amazing. Highly recommend.
I. B.
Trumpet mushrooms and hanuman Oysters are a must
Curries lacking any heat even at medium chilli levels.
J. B.
Best all-round Asian restaurant in Darwin.
V. M.
Simply superb, I love their "sundown" mocktail and worth a try a bit costly recipies
J. O.
Best Place to eat in Darwin... Very memorable! It's was ten years between visits for me and the experience was just as great first time
M. F.
Lovely ambience and attentive staff. Food is average and doesn't stand up to the hype. Some dishes are good but some are poorly cooked and taste awful. The place has a lovely atmosphere given the limited choice in Darwin. I wouldn't go for the food but if you want to spend the evening in a nice setting, this is an okay place to visit.
M. D.
Great service, hunuman iced tea was fantastic, the butter chicken best I have ever had. Roti divine. Pad Thai was ok, and fish curry a little sour, but still pretty good. Great company and a great vibe with interesting Thai and Asian Deco. Thanks
G. A.
Ordered jackfruit curry - delicious! Breads - crispy and delicious.
The only thing which troubled - mozzies! The far corner table had a bunch of them, and the staff couldn't really do anything about it which was a little sad.
But food was really good!
H. F.
One of the best places in Darwin for this style of food. Lots of different options for vegos too. Location is good and venue is nice enough to go dressed up or casual. Recommend this place if you need a good feed and don’t want to be disappointed.
G. F.
Dinner for 2 here was delicious. We shared mixed entree. Hubby had a seafood curry all very tasty. Good service. Must book to guarantee a table.
P. S.
Lunch today at Hanuman was my first in a while. Sadly, I must report that I will not be in much of a rush to return.
Prices here are on the high side for Darwin, which the owner undoubtedly feels are justified given its good reputation and his admirable commitment to paying staff appropriate wages. However, I feel that the place is resting excessively on its laurels.
The food was a mixed bag. My lamb korma came in an excellent non-generic sauce, wonderfully spiced, but tough and large chunks of lamb that barely submitted to the spoon and fork provided.
My friend's chicken biryani, great chicken, average rice. We received an unannounced yoghurt side dish, yet couldn't quite work out where it belonged, inexplicably and unsuitably sweet. The roti was very good. Overall, perhaps 3.5 stars for food.
Worst of all was the service, which was mildly officious, detached, and indifferent. We could not say that the waitstaff were rushed off their feet, as the place was not crowded. A mango lassi remained forgotten until my friend pointed out its absence. No enquiries along the lines of 'how was everything?' 2 stars for service.
At the prices, I expected something special, and today this was simply not delivered.
K. E.
The atmosphere was good, the food was good, the service was average. Very busy, that could have contributed. We prefer the one in Alice Springs. The menu in Darwin used to be different to that of Alice Springs with a fantastic lobster dish. This is not on the menu anymore. highly recommend
M. C.
Amazing food, super customer service and the best veggie curries 😍😍
G. M.
Great food
Great location
Great atmosphere
Clean and tidy
Good food and drinks
Clean toilets
Beyond the normal good destination.
B. H.
Food is 5 stars, but service is terrible. Food and drinks taken to the wrong table (somehow we ended up on a table with no number), got brought the wrong drinks twice in a row (you need to educate staff if you have two different beers from the same brewery!), and waiting 40 minutes for starters then 50 minutes for mains.
V. o. A.
Nice food but limited options
Lovely interior design
Visited more than 10 times, when the manager is around you feel perfectness
If you don’t book the table you might be ignored easy (at least you get this feeling) while sitting outside
B. K.
Atmosphere was great and the food was perfect, but the service - whist the staff were friendly and polite - was to fast, we were half way through our starter when the mains were served.
It was early in the evening and the resturant wasn't full. Startes and mains served in 30mins - and as soon as the plates were cleared we offered dessert so we had no time to digest - rest between courses.
We left without dessert, having enjoyed the food but feeling very rushed.
D. P.
Authentic Nonya food. Great top class restaurant in Darwin offering authentic asian food. Definitely not cheap but worth it.
J. W.
Oh the food was delectable, every dish mouthwatering and beautifully presented. We had the Hanuman oysters (their signature dish) bursts with flavour. The onion & cheese kulchan, soft, cheesy n delicious. Tom Yum soup, sour, salty n creamy with generous seafood. Singapore chilli prawns, lovely & spicy & again generous. And the tasting plate, crisp, juicy money bags amongst a myriad of other delightful morsels. Very attentive, friendly staff. A must if you're in Darwin. Highly recommend!
L. G. M.
First visit to Hanuman and we loved it. Service was excellent on a busy night and a last minute booking. Jack Fruit curry was the favourite meal. Naan bread didn't arrive but it didn't bother us. Very happy!
T. N.
I am so sad that I waited so long to finally have a meal at Hanuman, Darwin. It was fabulous! My wife, daughter and I had dinner last night to celebrate a milestone Birthday - May and her team did an exceptional job at making us feel welcome - the service was faultless, and May's team went over and above to make our evening a better than we could have imagined. The food was amazing, I can see why Hanuman's is so deservedly well regarded. I highly recommend this venue. From making the initial booking to paying the bill - first class experience. Thank you May, and Team. We will be back very very soon!!
C. J.
The Hanuman oysters are fabulous . As is the whole menu and the service .I have been there on my trips to the NT for the last seven years . Excellent...
B. C.
Food was reasonable without been quality.
Example Pad Thai noodles, not close to the Thai version.
A few mistakes by our waiter, who missed some items, or did not understand what we wanted.
k. k.
Had lunch Koffta curry and mein molie very nice
G. E.
Great food experience !!
Meals and flavours were incredible.
A little more attention to the table would have made it amazing.
S. B.
Outstanding Service. Thank you to Duane, Mei Li & Mary.
Massive compliments to the chef's for cooking our Barramundi & Threadfin Salmon that we caught today with Rohan from Top End Barra Fishing. So grateful to Hanuman for cooking our fish beautiful.
Malaysian Curry sensational.
S. M.
The food is good. Customer service is awesome.
E. M.
Really good food! A bit pricey, but it's worth the price.
T. P.
Had a booking but had to wait for our table as it wasn't ready. But however, beautiful food. Winners were the eggppant, cheese and onion naan, and the whole fish. Will be going back, and back
A. G.
Loved the food here. It was so yum that I made my partner go to the one in Darwin twice after we headed up north from Alice, having eaten at the Hanuman one there. Definitely go if you find yourself near one.
C.
To die for oyster entree, best flavour I’ve ever had. Always a fan of the whole crispy sweet n sour cooked fish. Mouthwatering. A place you can return to over and over and always be satisfied.
L. A.
Nice restaurant, lovely staff. Food pretty good.
Service average.
Took 40 minutes and 2 requests for water.
Despite doing dessert order with readback confirmation, 2 of 5 desserts did not arrive and had to reordered
K. G.
I've been here 5 times over the 6 years I've lived in Darwin. I had dinner with friends on Friday night. We ordered before 7pm, they opened at 6pm I believe and somehow they managed to run out of items on the menu? That was disappointing but life happens. We weren't drinking cocktails and bottles of wine so we appeared to not be a proirty for drink service, thats ok I guess. Where we were seated there was an empty table nearby, it seated comfortably around 8 people but somehow the staff managed to fit 20 people around it, the people at this table through no fault of their own were blocking our table from getting out of our seats. I understand restaurants need to make money but must they alienate the people who booked a table to dine? The autistics in this place are dreadful, we spend all night shouting at each just as we would if we were at Monsoons. Food was average, service wasn't the best but friendly when we did get someone's attention. I was watching the clean up process on another big table that left and was momentarily impressed with it until I watched the staff wipe the food from the table onto the chairs and then push the chairs back under the table without wiping them over!!!! People really seem to like it here but all my experiences have left me feeling "Meh" about the place.
G. M.
Not too bad...some very tasty dishes. I did enjoy the garlic naan, trumpet mushrooms, stay skewers and jack fruit curry. My wifes korma was a bit bland and the meat was not consistent in tenderness
H. B.
10 out of 10, chef Ali prepared the most beautiful tasty food and the service was simply wonderful Siti made sure we were happy and was so kind. Will definitely be back again, couldn't recommend them enough!!
S. S.
Best Indian food around, flavours are amazing, Veg version of the Butter "chicken" was unbelievable, Meer Moonie was fantastic with big chuncks of Barramundi. A must if you are visiting Darwin.
B. K.
The resturant was reasonably quiet at lunch time so I enjoyed exceptional service. The local oysters and local prawns, given the Hanuman touch were delightful. I allowed Paul to recommend the wine etc and they really complimented the food. I found the cost reasonable given my delightful lunch experience.
H. M.
Lovely restaurant and superb food! The butter chicken, beef massaman curry for the win! Stir fried veggies and garlic naan too! We visit almost weekly and it doesn't disappoint. Thank you and see you again soon!
a. h.
The food here is really good. Flavours are well balanced and the menu give the unique opportunity of Thai and Indian foods. Price is as expected of the quality of food - high
a. m. y. a.
The food is great, great atmosphere. Strategic place in the city area. Usually lots of people come to eat. I ordered butter chicken and rendang beef, the taste is bit different with the authentic food but still taste good. The staff was not really friendly, the only did their job not put extra attention for the guest
G. A.
Still good after all these years (over 25 by my reckoning). More towards Indian than Nonya nowadays but very tasty! Yum.
A. G.
Where do I start?
I had visited Hanumans multiple times and the food is always consistently good.
Last night we held my hubbys birthday with approx 22 people. It was amazing.
We had pre ordered via email which meant when we arrived we could get on with chatting and socialising. It was so easy and May, the manager, was onto it. She made sure we ordered enough food but didn't want us to over order either. She accommodated us so well.
Because there's no split bill the payment gets a bit tricky. We only realised after payment that you could go up and pay for the drinks individually at the end but only a small thing in what was a great birthday dinner!
Thanks May and your team, great night!
G. H.
Even though they had lost our dinner reservation, they managed to organize a table for 4. The food is always very good, as is the service. Although the goat curry was not up to standard this time. We always have at least one dinner here when we are in Darwin. Their restaurant in Alice Springs is also very good. The restaurant is easily accessible. The food is very good quality however it was unclear to me what sort of menu it was e.g. Indian, Thai, Malaysian etc. The staff are friendly and helpful with their advice, however the service on the night we attended, was very slow.
C. F.
Service is excellent, food delicious, location a bit noisy, pricing reasonable for the meal. Bookings are recommended
D. C.
T-shirt and shorts will see you herded into the plastic section with the large green screen aside from the main room. Service is excellent. Vindaloo was swimming in oil, somewhat smokey but bereft of the range of spices and smack of vinegar that initially attracted you. I think the chef was scared of using chili heat, especially after being asked to make the vindaloo "hot". I don't judge a restaurant on one try, they must have some great dishes, looking at the popularity. Try to get seated in the main area for a better experience, but dress 'smart casual' 👌🙂
T. M.
One of the best restaurants in Darwin and my favourite! No matter what food you order it taste super delicious, you can feel the love and effort of chef in each dish. My favourite is Goat Curry, Cheese and Onion Kulcha, Kashmiri Chicken Tikka, and Black Rice Brulee. If you love oysters then you must try their Hanuman Oysters, its full of flavour and very yummy. Price is little high end but justifiable the quality they serve. If you're in Darwin you must eat at this restaurant. Highly recommended!
A. C.
One of my absolute favourite restaurants! A small group of us visited late last night after an event, and the staff were extremely accommodating and still took our orders. Food was of the highest quality and absolutely delicious. Thank you to the staff for letting us dine so close to closing time - we were all extremely grateful!
J. F.
Great food, Terrible Service.
We made a booking for a group of 6 on a Friday night, yes a busy night but a booking secured us a table. Unfortunately we were put right next to the toilets even though walk-ins were getting better tables... strange.
The main issue is that the place was severely understaffed.
The place was totally full (good for them) but they needed at least 3-4 more waiters. By the end of the night you couldn't even see the bartender because the whole bar was full of glasses that they could wash in time.
After we were seated it took an additional 30 minutes just to get menus, then it was another 45 minutes to order. We had to walk to the bar 3 times just to get someone to come to take our order. So after arriving it was at least and hour and a half before we even got a drink.
When the food did arrive it was great (as usual) but was over 2 hours from when we arrived, and we were only a group of 6 people!
You could see that the waiters were stressed and it seemed that nearly all tables were trying to get the attention of the few who were walking around. Hire a few more staff for your busy nights and everything should be back to 5 stars!
D. H.
Delicious food along with excellent service, ate there 3 times in a 2 week period never anything less than delicious food along with excellent service.
A. N.
Really nice south east Asian fusion of food. Tasting plates and all the mains were very flavorful. The cocktails were great and the service was good by NT standards. It is an expensive menu, however the cuisine was sensational. A nice night out.
M. E.
OMG. in so many visits this place never disappoints. You have to try the mushrooms. Unbelievable
R. C.
Terrific & interesting food, a mix of Thai & Indian. It’s a big restaurant and rightly very popular. It is a big menu so probably more fun to go with a group so a variety of dishes can be tried. The wild barramundi in coconut curry was a standout. A generous serve in a delicious coconut curry. The garlic naan was also great. Wish I was here a few more nights so I could go again.
T. D.
Been many times over the years while visiting Darwin. Service was good and very happy to see Rockford wines on the menu.
I must say I was a little disappointed with the food this time. Everything tasted very sweet with little to no heat. That said I still highly recommend the oysters!
A. A.
Such a wonderful restaurant. Fresh and tasty food everyday. Good variety. They love to please their customers. Staff and manager Pankaj Ji thank you for your hospitality, caring customer service. You have the best team there. Thanks to the chef who is a credit to your restaurant. His culinary skills are flawless. God Bless you all. Namaste!
Q. T.
Love the Indian food here. Good service as well. Will keep.going there. Wine's are a bit.on the pricey side plus they don't have much of a Nz range. Oh well I suppose that's what you get living in Aussie.
J. “. L.
While the food was quite nice, the menu differed quite a bit from the online menu. They also appeared short staffed the night i was there although we were never informed of this by staff and were not provided with an apology for the wait. The slow service also caused us to leave and find dessert elsewhere rather than wait for service.
D. W.
I ordered jackfruit curry, and it was perfect!! There are a few vegan options on the menu.

Quality of the food was top class but the speed of service was poor. Staff were inattentive and failed to do basic things such as remove empty glasses from table. 45 minute wait for food and my dish came out 15 minutes after everyone else’s. Good portion sizes but very, very expensive for Indian food.
W. D.
First class restaurant in the heart of Darwin. A real fusion of styles and flavours which works perfectly. Great food, great service, great wines. Indoor dining with air conditioning and outdoor dining with fresh air. We had a great dinner. Better to get there early or book ahead. We will definitely be back on our next visit to Darwin. Highly recommended.
D. S.
Atmosphere was good. Ordered chicken which was cooked perfectly. Other dishes were also ok. But the flavour was not so indulging.
J. B.
Had an excellent food experience at Hanuman Darwin for lunch today. The tastes of the Thai and Indian dishes were fresh and lovely. Couldn't fault anything really right across to the desserts and green tea. Full marks.
M. S.
A fantastic meal always. Our faves are the goat curry, Malaysian fish curry and the money bags for starters.
A. M.
Love this place. Great oysters and probably the best butter chicken in Darwin!
R. D.
Enjoyed our visit there, plenty of options to choose from and really friendly staff. Just a tad pricey.
T. H.
This is the best Asian Fusion I've ever had. The place is always packed and has a great ambience. And you never know who you might see in this place. Whenever I'm in Darwin, a meal at Hanuman is a must for me!
M. .. F.
Beautiful and yummy as usual
M. S.
It is a bit of a shame to give Hanuman 3 stars. I have heard a lot about it and was looking forward to it. The positives first.
The food was flawless, genuinely great food. Authentic, spicy, delicious and on time. Cudos to the kitchen crew, they were the true saving grace.
The wine list also was a plus, not extensive but considered, intelligent and reasonably priced.
Sadly the service left a lot to be desired. I won't blame the table staff because the issue's seemed to be about training, leadership and structure. It was clumsy and amateurish. Pouring your own water from plastic carafes wasn't the best start. Drink orders went missing more often than not, they were slow to come and when they did they were regularly wrong. Plate handling were awkward to watch.
A venue where staff look afraid to make a mistake rather than confident enough to overcome one, like they are suffering rather than enjoying themselves makes for an unpleasant environment.
We were part of a courteous group that finished with a solid 4 figure bill, a bill that was paid for without solitary word. No 'I hope you enjoyed your night', no 'we hope you to see you again', not even a thank you, nothing.
Stand tall kitchen crew, you rescued a disaster.

Very nice food. Servings are large. Diverse menu.
M. S.
5 of us shared 4 different main meals and really enjoyed all of them. Good service and tasty food.
K. W.
Could not recommend this place enough!!
After a shocking experience at Noodle House we rushed over to Hanumans to see if they could squeeze us in before we had a show at the Entertainment Centre. They sat us right away and took our drink and food order within minutes!
Their services was excellent and the food was absolutely incredible (as always). Have never had a bad experience here and will definitely continue to eat at Hanumans
M. B.
One of the best Asian style exotic dinners I have experienced with professional service - will definitely be back.
J.
Disappointed! Researching the menu online was a waste of time as both dishes we choose were not available. Waitress said that the online menu is outdated. While seated and looking at menu 4 young loud diners were seated right next to us when there were at least 30 empty tables. Tables were approx 20cm apart, in a straight line so there was no escaping their conversation. Very unprofessional!
M. C.
Was very cheerful with our dining experience. The food was timely, cooked beautifully and very filling. Atmosphere was soothing yet livley and The staff were so approachable and accomodating.
A. H.
Hanuman has a well deserved reputation for top class service and extremely good food. With a blend of Thai, Indian and Nonya food on the menu it is an absolute taste smorgasbord and it is little wonder this restaurant has such a loyal popular following and is quite often hard to get a seat unless booking a couple of days in advance.
If you like to spoil your taste buds this restaurant is highly recommended.
K. D.
This place is amazing, will not find better in Darwin.
Need to try the oysters in the clay pot with THAT sauce, unbeatable.
A. J.
Been there few times, top class service, chef was kind enough to have special vegetarian meals prepared for myself. Food was delicious as always and really felt like I was sitting in a class restaurant in Darwin and I am happy to say that whole service, food & ambience is hardly an match in Australia.
J. P.
Elite Indian. You're going here for the experience as well.
O.
Incredible food and flavours, service was occasionally slow when ordering drinks but they were very apologetic as they were under the pump.
B. F.
4.5
Lively popular restaurant, spacious, comfortable. Professionalism and efficiency of staff good. Came at a busy time and was impressed with the service. Very good manager running the floor on top of his game. Food starter house special oysters, cooked perfectly with delicate sauce with touch of spice and Lemmon grass, well presented. Pakora, excellently cooked and crisp and moist,, touch of side salad complimented nicely. Salad was refreshingly balanced with the pakora nice composition and top marks for crisp freshness. Main Thai whole cooked fish in sweet sauce. Medium was generous and perfectly cooked, nicely presented, coconut steamed rice top marks. Hanuman iced tea, refreshing.
F. A.
Taste is great but service can be improved much more for their pricing. If their service is improved, I definitely will come back more often as i will feel their price matches to the total quality. I don't feel their staff work happily.
P. H.
Food was delicious! Tasty and flavourful, really enjoyed our meal here. Reasonably priced and very good service, would come here again.
J. X.
Absolutely delicious food and great laid back atmosphere. The staff are friendly and willing to chat as you decide on which dish to have. This is a place for those who love curry and chili.
A. L.
Southeast Asia and Indian fusion dishes. Good service and atmosphere, busy but not too noise. The Food is good and price is reasonable for a restaurant of this level in a tourist area.
w. s.
The decor may be dated, the staff might have been pretty indifferent, but the menu is delicious! A large selection of dishes but they are all fresh and tasty. Definitely recommend!
f. k.
Good services and food. Sunday brunch has to be highlight. Their mango lassi is probably the best in town.
V. B.
Have been wanting to try this restaurant for ages, happy to say it did not disappoint. I don't usually order fish but I tried the barramundi in a coconut sauce yum yum and even more yum. Also the oyster were something special.
N. M.
Nice food, nice ambience and nice staff. The only downside is the over priced wine bottles ($49 and up) and overpriced naan breads ($7), which is more than what we pay in Melbourne too.
S. H.
Chef owner Jimmy Shu personally spoke to us and served us. A very generous delightful person. He is a master . He went out of the way to find ginger flowers the next morning and had it delivered to our hotel to make dipping sauce. The food and the service at the hanuman restaurant truly exceptional. Thank you Jimmy
R. Q.
We have been to this restaurant for 9 years now. Very consistent with their food standard, quality and taste. Very relieving to know there is one restaurant in Alice springs you can always get what tour expect. Good on ya guys... doing a good job...
S. G. G.
Can't fault the food here also fantastic service. Try one of the banquets. I would recommend the jungle curry, the oysters, the fried whole fish. It's all great can't really go wrong
H. J.
Great good. The noodles and curry are exceptional.
L. R.
If you are looking for a great place to eat during your visit to Darwin, this is it. Simply brilliant
D. C.
Good service...busy restaurant...Thai Indian food...need to book to get a table
R. T.
Great food and service. Super fresh seafood. We had the kang kong greens (water spinach and yellow beans), meen moolie (barramundi filet with turmeric and coconut cream) and coconut rice. Was recommended by staff to have the garlic naan and was a good move to mop up the delicious meen moolie coconut cream.
S. H.
I'm a recently converted vegetarian and I'm usually appalled at the limited range on offer at restaurants. Not Hanuman though. The kofta curry is awesome even for meat eaters. I had the the bhindi masala tonight with rice and raita and loved it. Very rich and very delicious. Can't recommend this place highly enough. I eat here every time I'm in Darwin. Service is excellent and Pankaj the manager is very attentive.
J. S.
It’s hard to go past Hanuman for amazing Malaysian and Indian flavours, and a great dining experience. I absolutely love the oysters!
G. S.
Fabulous food. Always a great place to visit. Service is excellent.
E. C.
Food was amazing here and can't fault the service. Prices slightly high for what you get but overall was a lovely experience and the atmosphere was amazing
m. m.
Incredible flavours everytime! The food is always exceptional, definitely worth visiting if your new to Darwin.
b.
Everything we ordered here was really nice. The staff were quite friendly and overall I really enjoyed going here. Definitely would recommend if you're looking for something fancy in Darwin
A. L.
Dinner Friday night was brilliant. Our waitress Maria was a delight and very attentive
M. W.
Tops, great meals & considering how busy they were the staff coped well.
m. k.
Lovely food and service , not the cheapest option but worth the few dollars extra , they do take away to
T. M.
What a brilliant experience!
Wonderful food, tasty and really enjoyable!
Highly recommended!
A. K. B.
The vegetarian Indian curries were the best i have ever had, however the pad Thai was very very bland. The fish curry was also unexciting. The wine list is amazing and great value.
E. E.
Really nice food mostly at a reasonable price. The dessert was a bit pricey at $18 for a small bowl of black rice creme brulee but it was amazing!!
Staff are lovely and welcoming.
S. L.
Amazing food and best service from May who is an absolute delight!
Try the Baramundi and the Lamb cutlets 😋
Breakfast dosas and khothu roti on a Sunday are a dream!
P. S.
It was a weekday and the restaurant was still so busy. My stay in Darwin was better with delicious food from Hanuman.
J. S.
We had the whole fish, lamb korma and green chicken curry as mains and the vege samosas, oysters and pandan chicken as entrees. Food was all great
R. L.
Great Thai/Sri Lankan fusion restaurant ... excellent quality .. also has a restaurant in Alice Springs. Can not go wrong at these restaurants.
G. R.
The lady who served us was a bit random, probably leaning towards a bit rude. She didn't answer any of our questions, or really know the answers and gave one word answers back. Vegetarian kofta curry was delicious - my little sister lost her mind over it (she loves a kofta or two). The red curry (vego version) deffo tasted like it had fish sauce in it. So sadly wasn't vego. Giving the place a solid 4 for kofta - would go again for that but would skip the random AF service and fish paste.
c. c.
Hanuman is a long established restaurant located in the Darwin CBD close to entertainment and accommodation providers. Hanuman is a great location for a date night, celebration or a pre-show meal. This restaurant has an excellent food and beverage selection.
M. K.
Excellent friendly service. Great range of flavoursome dishes. Meals were done to perfection. An all round dining experience that leaves you wanting more.
C. D.
Best and authentic Indian food. Had ordered chicken chattinad and loved it!! Also biryani was fab!!!
M.
Laid back fragrant menu.Nice people. Good wine list.
S. J.
Food is good. Service is poor, mainly feel like it is due to reduced staffing to customer ratio. Ambiance is excellent.
K. S.
Everytime we eat here, we cannot go past the goat and Malaysian fish curries... they are sensational!! 😋👌😁
J. A.
Love the food and we tried almost everything - just delicious
J. S.
Enjoyable food. Good atmosphere. Very good service. Although if your glass gets too close to half empty start ordering your next drink.
D. H.
Dinner was sensational, wine list delicious and the service impeccable. Highly recommend.
K. C.
“Excellent food and very friendly, attentive service”
Went with visiting family members and was greeted by friendly staff and offered drinks straight away - something other restaurants could improve on. The staff spoke to my 2 yr old like a real person which is great to see and always made sure that he was sorted before the adults. Happy kids+ happy parents = great night out.
The trumpet mushrooms were great, fresh and full of flavour. The vegetable samosas with the dipping sauce = delicious.
You can't go pass the beef masaman and meen moolie, the consistency of the dishes between visits is spot on.
We will be back.
Visited October 2012
C. A.
OMG!! Absolutely the best chicken biryany I have had. Awesome, can't wait to check out the rest of the.menu guys!
T.
Lovely asian cuisine - the fish is to die for! Great service. Highly recommended. If you are wanting to go somewhere special, look no further.
R. P.
Went to 2 Restaurants in the chain. Alice Springs awsome but Darwin not as good. Both have almost identical menus but noticeably different in quality.
Alice Springs highly recommended. Darwin ok too but not quite so good.
G. S.
The food is excellent and the service by the lovely ladies is of a high standard. Its a serene place to dine.
G. M.
What a great mix of Indian and Thai cuisine in an inviting setting. Original presentation (Hanuman Oysters) and delicious serving of Hanuman Prawns made for a quality meal. Definitely be back!
L. C.
Excellent service, drinks great and food awesome (ask for the mamosa cocktail)! Well done guys we have been coming for years and tonight was our sons 21st and you know a restaurant is good when even the kids want to go back there!
L. H.
Food was ok, service was not. We were still eating our entrees and the mains arrive. Too cramped you can’t even hear the people across from you. Use to be my favourite restaurant not so much anymore
M. R.
Best indian in Darwin! The Paneer Masala dish is amazing. Fast service and great service.
A. D.
One of the best in Darwin. Killer curries, top wine list and great service. Try the Meen Moolie.
R. S.
An airy, open-style tropical restaurant serving delicious Indian/Thai fusion cuisine with great customer service. The Okra dish is highly recommended!
S. W.
Absolutely delicious food and friendly service.
J. R.
Originally from Melbourne I've had a bit of trouble finding decent restaurants in Darwin. My partner and I were after some Indian take away and stumbled upon Hanuman. The food was lovely. Relatively priced. Often Naan bread is extremely buttery and oily, and although this is delicious I would advise it's not the healthiest. Hanuman's Naan was however not at all buttery but still soft and nice. We will revisit and perhaps next time dine in.
R. A.
Excellant food, great place, friendly staff
a. s.
Food tastes really nice. But cost is a little on the higher end.
M. S.
Both food and staff were amazing, a definite go. Highly recommended A+
D. T.
I’m always a little bit dubious of fusion restaurants. It feels like a mid-90s fad. A gimmicky and kitsch concept none unlike like a baseball alarm clock. In these modern times, especially where austerity seems to be the word of the day, we are demanding authenticity en mass. But I’m often wrong…
Hanuman, located just at the edge of Darwin’s party district (or should I say 100 meter-ish street) is a Thai Indian restaurant with an interesting blend. You can really taste the curry flavours mingling with the sweet chilli and it works!
Now as I often feel that the grass is greener; we had the tasting plate consisting of Oysters (served with ginger and fish sauce), Methi Prawns, Samosas (that worked best when combined with a honey/soy dripping sauce), Nonya Pork Rolls (very Yum Cha with a curry twist) and Satay Salad (lemon grass chicken with a tamarind sauce).
Asian food is by its nature often fused together (Chinese-Malay, Vietnamese with French influence etc.). However with India and Thai on geographic opposite sides of the East, this was a wonderfully unique concoction with each cultural flavour distinctly identifiable but deliciously working together. Great meal, good prices and excellent service.
N. K.
Excellent food and very good service. Meals are on the expensive side and it is essential that you book. Restaurant is a popular pre show venue and you might need to take this into account when planning for time.
S. S.
Tried Chicken Biryani, not the most authentic Biryani but yet full of flavour and nicely served.
Staff really friendly and communicative.
Many more dishes to come.
Thanks
J. C.
As usual, gorgeous food that is well presented. Service was fast. Ample food. Only downfall is the noise and when full, you can't hold a conversation.
S. L.
Five stars for the food! The food here is amazing. Pretty good service but can become stretched as this place is always busy!
S. R. R.
Food is very good.. loved chicken tikka and lamb chops. Hanuman.. you sure have great chef. You guys need to train the staff more.
S. K.
Best restaurant in Darwin. Great service and yummy curries from many countries. Something for everyone in the menu

J. T.

S. P.

Delicious food, nice staff but, the napkin could be from other textile, it's very "rigid" and that makes a bit unpleasant to use it.
