The good was quite delicious and was extremely flavourful. We thoroughly enjoyed every bite! My only suggestion would be to have an option of meat for the nachos on the Menu. But aside from that, the customer service was great, so we're the food and drinks! I will definitely be back again sometime soon and hopefully I will get to try the margaritas and Sangrias!

I moved to Darwin on New Years Eve of 2021, I ducked into Hot Tamale for a drink and was quite baffled by the place on first glance. I got served by the manager who was really lovely and kind, I think her name was Katie? I decided to bring some friends for lunch the next day (01 Jan 2022), and the food and service was absolutely astounding! We were served by a girl named Natalie who was awesome! The quality of the food as well as the promptness of it coming out to us, mixed with the extraordinary service has definitely left a mark on me and I can see myself becoming a regular here!

Very nice Mexican restaurant on the waterfront. Service was friendly and prompt. Food was good with many options to choose from as a vegetarian. Nice decor with great atmosphere. Excellent location. I had a deep fried zucchini taco and sweet potato taco which were both delicious. My husband had the vegetarian burrito bowl which he said was a nice flavour. I ordered an iced coffee which I was dissatisfied with as it hardly had any coffee flavour. At $6 I was expecting a good iced coffee. It looked and tasted like milky water.

So started off good got drinks and orders taken, first came out the entree’s chips were frozen and cold and cheese was not even melted on the other entree dish. Returned both and got free round of drinks which was good. Mains were awesome and had nothing wrong with them.

Thanks hot tamale for the great time. My friends and I have recently discovered this local gem after relocating from interstate. I have to say we are completely in love with the place and are slowly working our way through the cocktail list (endless and delicious !!) The staff are always very helpful and genuinely seem happy to be at work which is nice to see. Great service and amazing food- would recommend you try the street food- you get a bit of everything !! A very buzzy restaurant. Great atmosphere and staff were super attentive. The front of house attendant, Anneliese, deserves special mention. She was particularly engaging with all patrons and ensured a positive experience. The menu is very appealing, with a great choice. Meals are beautifully presented and tasty! Spent the last two afternoons here enjoying happy hour! Great spot to chill and enjoy the waterfront. Love the frozen margarita. Staff are friendly but it gets difficult to flag them down when it's busy. Food and drinks arrive quickly once ordered though, and food is pretty good. A bit too much batter around the zucchini taco for me, but the corn ribs are amazing! If you're wanting a healthier taco definitely go for the sweet potato over the zucchini. Love how they make their own corn chips too, delicious!

We love coming to the Hot Tamale! The setting is beautiful, the margaritas are deli and the service is generally excellent. The food is pretty authentic and we love getting a mix of entrees especially the Elote con crema, cerviche and chips and salsa. We come every time we are in Darwin.

Amazing food with lots of authentic touches. It has won the award for the best Mexican restaurant in the Northern Territory and Queensland combined in the past and I can see why. It also has a great bar selection and our server Briee was very helpful with the menu and was knowledgable about taquilas and Mezcals

Nice lunch in the harbor close to the cruise ship dock. The food was good, portions were appropriate, and the drinks were great. Almost no one in the restaurant, but the food still felt slow. But was able to fill the time with free WiFi. It was a good overall experience!

Nice mexican feed. The house hot sauce was warming and tasty. My lamb Enchilada de Barbacoa was pretty good, the wife really enjoyed the Camote de Agave. Kids had kids meals and liked them, nachos for one and chicken nuggets for the other. They aren't cheap but the Cocktails gave us a bit of a headspin. Pretty sure mine was a glass of wine with a shot of tequila in it and some garnish. Yummy. But for the budget conscious Sangria is a bit more economical and gets a similar result. Gluten free options available; basically every taco can be gluten free if you put it on a Corn tortilla. The Hot Tamal comes with a label saying "warning spicy"; thats a fair description. Expect to come back here again to try a few other things on the menu

Loved the food here. Often when you go to a Mexican restaurant the food is laden with cheese and heavy salsa. However at Hot Tamale the food was light, modern, fresh and tasty. The red sangria was great too! The staff were lovely and the service was quick.

I am a coeliac & get very ill if I eat gluten. This restaurant is the first I have encountered in Australia so far who have coeliac options on their menu, which is such a relief rather than going to place after place & not being able to eat. OMG!! Was treated like a KING!! The QUALITY of service, cuisine, tequila and banter was second to NONE!! Well worthy of best bar in NT. Received special treatment for being a chilli head. Delicious!! We had a family dinner here with the kids, at first seated outside and it was way too hot for us. Luckily we were accommodated a table inside in the air condition and my kids turned from little devils into angels. Highly recommend a table inside if you have kids and want to enjoy your dinner. Shout out to the lovely front desk hostess who swapped tables for us! Food super tasty and fresh, we had the fish tacos and lamb tacos, chicken nachos and some drinks. Our kids had the chicken bites from the kids menu and it was soooo good!! So glad we decided to come here for our first meal out in Darwin. Thank you!

Favourite place to eat and drink in Darwin by far. Can't get enough of the tacos and they have their own unique take on each dish. The Elote con Crema is amazing. The food is really good, great atmosphere and it was overall a good vibe with nice views. However, trying to pay for the meal was a nightmare. You pay at the table, which is fine, but we asked to pay 3 times and even got up to ask if we could just pay at the front. We were told to sit at the table and someone would see us. It took almost half an hour for them to actually see us. So we had finished our meal, wrapped up with the group and just sat for an extra half an hour just waiting to pay. It was frustrating

The friendly, helpful and attentive staff. The fabulous and huge array of drinks. The red Sangria!!! The extensive menu with plenty of gf options. My husband enjoyed all the traditional dishes. I love the super fresh and tasty Mexican ceviches and sashimi bowl options that are full of all the Mexican flavours you could want. The Burrito bowl was another great twist on a classic. Even a Mexican version of espresso martini and affogato. Genius! Thanks Hot Tamale. We can't wait to return.

Great menu, fantastic food and drinks. Even better if you share the dishes cos you get to taste more of the menu. Would recommend the corn ribs. Ate here for the first time last week and fell in love with the place so much that we brought our visiting family here for lunch within the same week. This rating is not only for the food and drinks but mainly for our server Jimenez Espitia. I am quite late writing this review, but a month or so ago my friends and I dined at this restaurant and she was so attentive and friendly, making sure we had everything we needed. I believe there was a mix up with our frozen margaritas in which Jimenez recieved the blame, however, it was solely our fault as we forgot to order our drinks when she came to serve us and she apologised profusely for OUR mistake! If you dine here, I sincerely hope you have her as your server as she is outstanding and will make you feel as though you are dining as royalty. Thank you Jimenez, you made a good night a great one.

Hot Tamale for the win! Our favourite place to eat, drink and enjoy the amazing Darwin Waterfront is at this fantastic establishment. From the fresh, delicious Mexican cuisine (fish tacos for the WIN every time!!) to the world class collection of tequila we cannot fault this place. We have travelled to Mexico and as avid tequila lovers ourselves we can safely say their margaritas are on par with some of the best we've ever had. We really appreciate the staff going the extra mile with their tequila knowledge and know that we are always in for a treat with something new and exciting to try in their collection. The way this business has adapted to the current Covid-19 situation is nothing short of inspiring. In short, we love the place. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed. Salud!

Nice view of the waterfront precinct. It's a Mexican restaurant but there wasn't a great choice of traditional Mexican dishes like tacos or nachos with meat. I had a burrito salad bowl and it was really nice but I expected more traditional Mexican.

Was a little tentative time cone here at first as a few nights earlier it was dead quiet. On the night we went it was packed so there was some real atmosphere and buzz. The menu was very expansive and the drinks menu was insane. I couldn't believe the types of Mezcal that was in offer especially for a little restaurant in Darwin, there isn't that much on offer at Mexican places in LA! It is a little pricey but we loved the food!

Cheery restaurant in nice set up. Staff is attentive and food is decent, although far far from Mexican authentic. I was actually disappointed for not finding any tamales on the menu. The guacamole starter was small for the high price, but the mains and street food were quite large.

It is not a bad place for what it is; If you are looking for Mexican food to replicate real Mexican food then you will be disappointed, but if your looking for a spot that will give you the best available then this is the spot for you. Hot tamale is a bit hit and miss in regards to food. Sometimes we have been and had a great meal, others and increasingly more and more, the standard is slipping. It's pretty pricey for what you get too - $21 for three tacos, $22 for nachos ($5 more if you want meat) and it can leave you pretty unsatisfied. Drinks are ok, but a pitcher of Aperol spritz is $52 so not exactly a deal there either. I've taken friends here that are visiting Darwin but always heed expectations before.
