Comments of Phat Mango by Martin the Chef
N. D. S. M.
Overall it was a great experience, the service were great and the staff are very attentive. They ask for our honest opinion and constantly check if everything was ok throughout the night.
Out of 8 dishes the slow roast with barley risotto in my opinion was under seasoned, and the desserts was probably the biggest let down because the honeycomb was slightly burnt and it left a weird after taste. However, everything else was great and would definitely come back next time.
N. L.
An excellent choice of restaurant using Australian produce and locally sourced items to create multiple pleasant flavour schemes. They have multiple plates, all delicious and rich in flavours. The share plate is a definite must, the wine list is great and extensive including some real gems ( check the museum selections) and the dessert list is divine. Also extremely helpful staff working there.
T. M.
Wonderful. Delicious food, we had the chefs tasting menu of shared plates. Generous portions, amazing flavours, most dishes were gluten free. The service was excellent, staff very knowledgeable and attentive. Great cocktail and wine list. A must try. We will be back. Thanks.
N. K.
Amazing and very delicious food and really friend staff. Great to see such a focus on locally sourced produce and Australian cuisine. We had the chefs menu which is a lot of food struggled to finish it all! Definitely worth going to
M. C.
My husband took me to Phat Mango. We got the feed me deluxe. We enjoyed every course! Because we didn't know what was going to be served, it let us try food that we probably would not have ordered.
Best prepared roo I've ever had.
Also, my husband doesn't usually like cheese but he smashed the goat cheese gnocchi.
A must try in Darwin
J. M.
Visited 3 times in 3 weeks amazing menu my goal is to keep going back I want to try everything on the menu it is clean eating and full of flavour the dishes bring food back to life with each bite giving your mouth another surprise from the entree to main to desert just can’t get enough of all the flavours. Atmosphere from the moment you walk in to be greeted by - smiling chatty Chef Patron Martin and you can see Creative Director Ryan at work in the kitchen - but wait there is more amazing staff General Manager Tristram who has a world of knowledge of wine and spirits and the amazing talented Cocktail Alchemist Sunday who is a wizard with cocktails. Service staff the in-depth knowledge the service staff have of every dish the descriptions are like a story for each plate the enthusiasm they project on flavours is magical. The happiest staff award in Darwin goes to Phat Mango Darwin’s best restaurant and service in my book. Best food Phat Mango wins by a mile. We will be back in the new year for more stories and food - cocktails.
Forgot the atmosphere is beautiful full of happy people

Great service, prefect food, BIG glasses of wine. We were lucky to get an early table at the last minute. Highly recommended. My husband loved the mushroom and I adored the gnocchi, it was the third best I've eaten, after Italy 🇮🇹. That's a great recommendation. Sorry bad photos.
A. B.
Amazing food, full of flavour! We had Housemade Gnocchi- soo tasty and Flank Steak- Tender and flavourful. Staff are so friendly and service is great. Highly recommend if your in Darwin City, we will be returning.
B. B.
Simple stunning dining experience
From the welcome as I entered to explanation of the drinks options and menu, the high quality staff service, and the engaging conversation with staff made the experience a truly top class one.
And the food - absolutely hit the mark.
Stunning combinations of flavours and superbly presented. Savoured every mouthful
One of the best dining experiences I’ve had anywhere in Australia.
And all in a restaurant only 1 year old.
Thank you.
J. S.
Nice place, good service and creative menu.
Just had some disappointments...
Crocodile Laksa was a bit watery and lacked a bit oomph. On the other hand, it gives maybe more room for the subtle meat flavours.
Steak was perfect. There was just something that tasted burned in the portion that ruined the taste a little
A.
Wonderful service and food... and fun time had by all!
A unique menu that is worth exploring.
The service is fast while also personal.
Phat Mango really needs to be a 'must do' on your dining experiences list while in Darwin.
A. C.
Took some friends here from out of town. They loved it, the local cuisine the thought about using local community ingredients and the friendly staff like Eliza that lighted our food so we could get the perfect picture.
A. E.
The food was delicious. I would definitely return if I'm in Darwin again.
The Chicken Liver Pate and Kangaroo TarTar were my highlights!
E. B.
Had the 'Fish of the Day', and it was cooked to perfection, absolutely delicious! Everyone else on my table raved about their meals too. The young girl waiting on us was awesome too and the food came out quite quickly considering the place was very busy! Highly recommend a visit to Phat Mango.
H.
Phat Mango's website states it's cuisine is Australiana. Their menu should be THE representation of Australian Cuisine - fresh local produce unique to Australia.
We ordered the Deluxe Feed Me and what an amazing meal it was! It was so good that I can't even pick a favourite dish. We were served sharing plates- 6 small plates, 1 main and 1 dessert. Everything was fresh and of excellent quality. The waitress told us that each table gets different dishes based on what the chef feels like serving in that moment. How brilliant is that? That means when we go back again and order the Deluxe Feed Me, we could get other dishes to try.
Staff were attentive but not over bearing. They were also very friendly and accommodating. The dinner atmosphere was also great. Would recommend coming here for a date night/birthday/anniversary. Definitely a must visit if you're visiting the NT. Just make sure you make a reservation. It's super easy to make one on their website.
K. M.
Amazing for gluten free food! If it's still on the menu try the gnocchi, I am still dreaming about it... Phat Mango is the best restaurant in Darwin (in my opinion) and we ate there four times in the two weeks we were there. Also try the gin-cured mackerel, so good!

This was a first time for 6 of us at Phat Mango last night. After an extremely efficient on line booking system I was expecting a fine night dining experience.
Unfortunately it didn't come up to expectations.
The food was tasty and beautifully presented but most of the six dishes were tepid at best, hence detracting from the flavours on offer.
The service was pretty good but on two occasions we had drinks and food brought to our table that wasn't ours. I got the impression some of their staff were a bit inexperienced.
The lighting in Phat Mango was subtle, meaning it was a bit dark to read the menus, but it certainly created a nice ambience.
The food menu and drinks menu were great, good variety, but the general consensus was we wouldn't be hurrying back.
I am quite prepared to give it another go, but later than sooner.
W. P.
We let us spoil by the Chef last night @ $75.- each.
Impeccable food 8 different dishes top service and worth every cent.
Great night out that you will remember always.
Great local excellent food!

100% will always recommend this place. Absolutely love Martin's vision of promoting the Australiana cuisine and using native ingredients to do so. My favourites are the Mango Daiquiri and the Ant's Nest.
R. S.
Amazing food! The feed me menu was huge! So well priced! Roo Tail Osso Bucco was a favourite! Great service as well!
V. Z.
We read very good reviews. but we were completely disappointed. the ceviche tasted plain. the ribs 50% fat, with unflavored chimichurri, and no accompaniment. fish with bones and cartilage and unpleasant accompaniment. the service 10 points, and the wine tasty. But the food, a disappointment.
B. W.
Kangaroo tartare was absolutely divine! Definitely worth trying. Pâté was luscious with accompanying fresh damper as usual. Everything was well enjoyed. Wine was beautiful and service always top-notch.
A. M.
Food was pretty good. Shared a taster platter with husband and it was really good value for money. Felt a bit like Narnia trying to find the toilets after a few glasses of wine (lol) Looking forward to returning to try the famous Ants Nest dessert.
J. J.
What a fantastic place
I really can steer enough the attention to detail and the Absolute 5 star service thr this establishment provides
Massive focus on Australian food and local food hand picked
Cracking menu and quality
Darwin had a new 5 star place to go ! Get there ! You will love it like we did a party of 10 and they spoilt us and knew what they were doing.
Well done team phat mango
P. V.
The need to make a reservation says it all. We didn’t! And so so couldn’t get a table on a Friday night because it is so popular. Even so, every effort was made to fit us in seated at the bar. Result: a great night. Great food (Mike, the owner-manager, is there checking everything goes smoothly) with the absolute freshest local seafood as their standard.
Professional, relaxed, friendly service. Can’t recommend Phat Mango highly enough. Also can’t wait for a Phat Mango branch to open in Sydney’s Darling Harbour.
R. P.
Very good service, clean restaurant, good food. The taster menu is a good choice. Tried things I wouldn’t have thought to order and was a great all round experience.
M. M.
Delicious fresh food cooked to perfection. Pleasant atmosphere and friendly service.
D. D.
Simply a great meal and experience. Felt welcome the minute we walked in. A menu where you actually find everything gets your interest and you want to give it a try. Staff were just fantastic and helped with the menu selection, with terrific service. Food was amazing - not just it’s presentation but the flavours 😊😊. Walked home with a smile the whole way.
If you’re in Darwin - stop thinking about it and just go to Phat Mango.
B. J.
Amazing restaurant with great staff and very unique food. Really love that everything is made with local ingredients. Very reasonably priced as well. Highly recommend!!
C.
A great restaurant. Staff very friendly and attentive. Food is creative. I am particularly impressed with the kangaroo tartare. The seafood soup was flavorsome. The homemade gnocchi was very tasty too. Another good thing is everything is light. No burden on the stomach. Highly recommended.
j. n.
Hands down the best dining experience we have had in Darwin, We had dinner and cocktails here a while back and can not stop raving about the place, absolutely can't wait to go back. From the amazing and unique menu to the awesome staff down to the awesome cocktails. Definately our favourite place to dine, see you all again soon
H. D.
Managed to fit us in last night even though they were extremely busy. Which we appreciated so much and, and then to top it off all the food was Amazing. Such unique and well used flavours. The duck and leak where some of of our favourites not to mention the mackerel!! 🤤🤤 but it was all so yummy. And the staff were great and attentive. Thanks again
S. T.
The food is exceptional here. I highly recommend the gnocchi which are lightly fried pillows of happiness. This is the place you take people you want to impress.
G. L.
Great menu.. interesting food… great service…and all local focus
L. C.
Fantastic experience. Food exceeded expectations and the service was impeccable. Probably the best dining experience I've had in Australia.
The roo tail had the most heavenly polenta, the beef cheek just fell apart and I'd really recommend the ants nest for an exciting dessert. Credit to everyone at Phat Mango.
V. C.
Sensational food .So far I've eaten here twice .Staff are exceptionally good and you feel valued .Martin moves around the restaurant checking and explaining dishes. Everything from the cocktails to the wine list choices are fantastic.
Last night I had the eye fillet which was tender and delicious.
The reddish salad I had to accompany the dish was light and fresh .
t. L.
Very nice place with interesting food choices. So many drinks to choose from! We had very promising start with tiger prawns and fish wings so yummy and bit of a disappointment with main dish eye filet… stake was done perfect but kipfler was under cook and tasted in the way that 3 of 4 of us that order it didn’t like it. The flavour combination just didn’t work at all for most of us. That bring us to desert which was a winner.
S. O.
From start to finish everything was on point. Both courses were magnificent, drinks well paired with excellent recommendationd by the staff who were knowledgeable & friendly without being pushy - and the atmosphere was lovely and chilled for such a fab menu. Thanks to the chef & the team, highly recommended!
T. H.
On holidays from Perth and had a meal at Phat Mango last night….. do yourself a favour, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better culinary experience anywhere. Great food & service….. a must if you’re heading to Darwin
J. Z.
Very excited about the menu and it didn't let us down! Our table got 4 different main meals and they were all delicious. The fish was meaty and the steak melted. Once the menu changes again we'll be straight back. Our table also got some small plates as appetizers and these were all delicious too. The only feedback would be the size of the small plates (for the price), which you could just about share between two if you ate in tiny mouthfuls. Otherwise, great experience, and nice for Martin the Chef to make a jovial appearance!
D. D.
This place is off the charts! Best food in Darwin since we moved up here. I recommend sharing a bunch of plates so you get a good chance of tasting a lot of the menu. Red wine is straight from the fridge so if you like your red wine a bit warmer, get them to pull the wine from the fridge at the beginning.
L. J. M.
Had a wonderful dinner at Phat Mango. Staff are all lovely, very helpful & knowledgeable about the menu. The food wasn’t the most picturesque but definitely the best meal I’ve had in Darwin. Started with the Roo Tartare which was divine! I wouldn’t recommend it to tartare purists but my gosh it was spectacular. For mains, had the fish of the day which was Spanish Mackerel. The mackerel was cooked to perfection & the beurre blanc was lovely, but my highlight of mains was the chips. Oh man... the handcut chips which is cooked with garlic, was the best chips I’ve ever had. Pure perfection. I was definitely happy with the meal but of course, you need to have dessert. They have a special which is called the Ants Nest, all I can say is... you HAVE to order it! It’s fantastic! Overall had such a lovely time & amazing dining experience. I highly recommend Phat Mango for anyone in or visiting Darwin.
T. L.
A great little restaurant. Could pass on the eye fillet, it was well cooked but we found the hash a bit dry and over seasoned. Everything else we had was 5 star, and if you keen to try something different ask the waiter about the luge.
M. A.
Amazing food. Great experience. Lots of cool things you wouldn't have tried before. Shows you get what you pay for.
M. W.
Make sure you book at table to experience this gem. The locally sourced and inspired food was sensational, cocktails on point and fantastic service.A must do.
I. M.
Visiting from Melbourne and was taken to Phat Mango for Dinner. First bonus was they had Grapefruit Juice so I could have my favorite drink, Vodka/Grapefruit. Food was exceptional...shared 3 starters, Braised Leek, Char Grilled Local Prawns and Smoked Humpty Doo Barra Bruschetta. Had the Braised Eva Valley Beef Cheek for mains. Service matched the food. If you get the chance don't miss this Australian gem.
T. C.
OMG! Best meal I’ve had in a while… and incredible value for money. Staff were superb and meals came out quick. The chicken liver pate is a must!
m. F.
One of my favourite little spots, a really friendly crew with fresh and delicious food. I’ve never had a bad meal here, and the lunch service especially is prompt and pleasant. Staff are wonderful and have great menu knowledge.
D. S.
Coeliac, GF this restaurant is for You.
🌟🌟Excellent Gluten Free Food 🌟🌟
Share plates so you can try so many dishes if your hungry Feed me Menu.
Exceptional staff use their knowledge to help guide you through the menu and extensive wine list.
Book Book Book ahead
New menu coming soon. Hope GF Damper or Gf Pizza bread is added to accompany dishes. Enjoy it's a Diamond in Darwin's Crown.
M. W.
Phat Mango rates as Australia's best Australiana cuisine restaurant. Dishes crafted around the 6 seasons of the local indigenous people. Food is stunning. Martin is a real star.
A. L.
The only issue with Phat Mango is choosing which of the favourite dishes to eat in one sitting. It's unfair to only have one stomach, when clearly I need at least two to dine here!!
The roo tartate = OMG
The buffalo carpaccio = OMFG
Peri peri fish wings = I'm running out of acronyms for 'holy hell, are you kidding me? How do they taste so good?'
The pearl meat is divine.
The gin-cured mackerel? STOP, my mouth is watering.
The braised leek? You had me at hello!
NT grilled prawns? How TF did you make that taste SO good!?!
Okay, so I haven't tried the whole menu yet, but I look forward to going back and doing it all again.
I forgot to mention the cocktails, which are made beautifully.
Just eat there, okay? I couldn't give a higher recommendation.
V. 6.
Beautiful fresh fish cooked perfectly. No fuss service. Well considered and inexpensive wine list. What's not to like? Great addition to Darwin's restaurant scene. I will be back!
J. J.
Best place to eat in Darwin. Food was amazing. Service the best
J. I.
The food was nice but a bit too light on for me (we had a banquet type thing for a group lunch). They serve an eclectic variety of Beers (including Darwin's One Mile Brewery) which is great.
J. W.
If you would like to dine in at Phat Mango I highly recommend that you book in. On a few occasions we have tried to walk in without a booking, and there was no chance of eating in.
Food was at a good standard but not at that level where I am dying to go back.
It took a long time for our table to be served.
The overall price for everything was very appealing.
G. E.
Was looking forward to this experience. And the four of us were not disappointed.
The kangaroo tail osso bucco was incredible.
Staff were attentive and Martin even took time out to explain his journey.
Awesome!!
J.
Everything was just okay. I expected something special given the reviews and awards. I do like that everything is Australian, good idea and theme.
L. P.
The ambience and staff are great, and there are plenty of mouthwatering options to choose from. My only issue is the consistency across dishes. The ceviche, roo tartare, roo tail oso buco, and steak fillet were to die for. Laksa, snapper and Shiraz mushrooms were a bit boring. All up, a truly enjoyable date night experience with an exciting wine/beer/cocktail list. Book ahead and enjoy.
A. R.
I'd say the best tastes in Darwin. And perfect service also.
g. s.
Had the best meal, lots of local food, roo tail best weve ever had. Great service from all the staff, all happy and cheerful. Thanks guys, we'll remember this meal for a long time
M.
Best of its class in Australia. Just magic. All Aussie sourced food. Fantastic menu. Great local booze. Martin's a wizard!
E. D.
Customer service is on point, food and cocktails are epic!
Martin and the team go above and beyond to create a memorable dining experience. Will be back again and again.
K. D.
Fantastic food, excellent service. The food highlight of our trip to Darwin.
B. F.
Went to this place twice in the same day just so we could get through some more items on the menu, which is really interesting, and has some great local ingredients!
Great food, friendly staff, and an all round nice atmosphere.
Would definitely recommend. 👏👏👏👏👏
K. V.
This is a new restaurant in Darwin serving food made with local produce.
The food is great. The service is awesome and the price is right.
A very welcome addition to the Darwin restaurant scene.
One of my favorite places to eat.
P. S.
By far the best place Ive been to in a long time. The food was perfection and great cocktails. Reccomend pairing 43 reasons cocktail with the Gunbalunya sirloin....heaven!
A. M.
Absolutely loved our evening here.
There is an interesting creative flare to all the dishes and none of them disappointed. A different way to explore the NT.
The must tries ... (no matter what) are the, ceviche and the Ants Nest!
T. E.

The food had amazing flavours and would recommend trying it for your stay in Darwin. There was only one waitress servicing the entire restaurant which meant service was a little slow.

Oddly interesting food combinations that really work (try the blue cheese banana) and totally satisfy. Great place and fantastic service from Glenda!!

If you're reading this review considering whether you should book at Phat Mango just do it!
The staff are fantastic. Attentive, knowledgeable and genuinely friendly creating a fabulous atmosphere. Perfect balance between checking in and leaving you to enjoy your meal.
The food is inventive, interesting and delicious. We had the deluxe feed me option, a great way to experience the breadth of the menu. Serving sizes were extremely generous so pace yourself. Probably the best feed me experience I have had.
The wine list is extensive with excellent and unique options by the glass. And the glass prices are very reasonable.
Couldn't fault the experience and will be back to try the new season menu. Thank you.
