Comments of Blue Eye Seafood Restaurant
C. F.
Have been twice now for lunch. Both times have ordered the grilled blue eye and it had been absolutely delicious. It is very reasonably priced at $22. Service has been very good.
R. O.
We had Fathers Day lunch , friendly service, had the Blue Eye special, fish was nicely grilled but the Greek Salad was poorly presented other dishes looked nice.
J. S.
Solid 3/5.
Venue was nice, food was fresh, service was fine! Just nothing really wowed us.
N. A.
WOW - the food was beautiful (the actual blue eye was delicious!), great wine list but the service was literally unbelievable… So friendly, efficient, thoughtful… the staff delivered an exceptional experience for our large group. We will definitely be back and I could not recommend this restaurant more highly. A wonderful find in Hobart!
H. G.
Having had reason to be at Blue Eye for lunch 3 times in 2 weeks I can honestly say how lucky I am!
The food is superb, service second to none and the atmosphere amazing. The wait staff are outstanding. 2 of the 3 times we were lucky enough to hear ‘Bliss’ singing on the deck, just wonderful.
Highly recommend

We had the most amazing lunch at Blue eye! The seafood was incredible! So fresh and perfectly cooked. Our waitress was phenomenal. So friendly, knowledgeable and really made us feel welcome. We were in Hobart for our honeymoon but will definitely be back! Can’t recommend visiting blue eye enough if you enjoy seafood.
B. B.
Friendly staff and very good product knowledge. Nothing was a problem. Insanely fresh delicious food. A beautiful bright and airy environment with a welcoming warmth. I can't wait to go back.
M. T.
Fresh seafood and really friendly staff. I came here for their oyster special as a solo diner and the waitress was really helpful and honest answering my questions. Could hear the workers talking to locals/regulars and they were very friendly to everyone coming in. Very yummy seafood.

We heard friends tell us Blue Eye restaurant have this special event from Tuesday to Saturday 3pm to 5pm, so before we head to east coast, we decided to try this fresh beautiful oysters 🦪
I ordered a dozen natural with lime oysters and my partner ordered another dozen of kilpatrick. It’s beautiful and fresh to taste Tassie oysters. I told my partner oysters and scallops for Tassies just like fish and chips.
I would recommend and love to come again next time to try more flavors.
8 of 10 recommended
Why just 8, because if you give 10 and you find somewhere more tasty, you will regret and blame yourself! ✌️🦪😏

Finally some really nice seafood in Australia. It sounds like it should be easy to find but it hasn't been. This place is much better than most. Good service, and the fish was all perfectly cooked. Delicious desserts and a good wine recommendation.
L. C.
Incredible seafood cooked to perfection. Staff could not go any more out of their way for us - we were made to feel like regulars as soon as we walked in the door. Could not recommend more highly.
F. P.
One of the best seafood I've ever tasted!
The oysters in tempura batter were my favourite. The batter was light and I can still taste the freshness of the oysters even though they were deep fried.
We also tried the abalone as well as the octopus salad. They are also quite good.
Service was great.
A. T.
One of the best seafood places if not the best I've been to. Food tastes amazing and very well presented. My personal favourite is the chilli squid. Word of advice though: order 1 dish per person. Definitely a place to try if you're vising Hobart and are interested in the seafood of the area.
H. D.
High quality food with a good range of options. Loved the char-grilled yellowfin tuna and the mixed grill. Absolutely lovely
B. S.
Good place and great food. especially seafood manu. we went there 3 people for my mother's birthday. We ordered the food as a course. We got a lot of food for sharing. It could be great if we went there 4 people. It was too full for us. I al so recommend to have oyster there, delicious! lovely stuff as well. possible to book a table first that will be a good idea. quite hard to find parking spots around there at night.
E. M.
Delicious seafood, excellent portion sizes and huuuge cocktails. Loved our experience here and I'm glad we splashed out to try multiple entrees and mains
c. 2.
Seafood is really fresh. The food was delicious. We had mussels, oysters and a pasta. Would come again for sure. The drink list is also very extensive, with something for everyone.
R. W.
May well have the best seafood in Hobart. It's not cheap, but if you go when they're serving their lunch specials, they are a comparative bargain (probably averaging around $15). We had the grilled Huon salmon and the prawn linguine. Both were fabulous! We'd come back here just for the food, but the atmosphere is very pleasant and the service was great. I'd recommend anyone visiting Hobart to have a meal here.
S. K.
This place is known for great seafood.
My partner and I ordered the char grilled sour dough bread with balsamic and olive oil.
We also ordered as an entree the grilled octopus with Tzatziki and for mains we ordered the grilled octopus with a Greek salad, tzatziki and chips.
We loved the grilled octopus so much we ordered another entree size.
We will definitely be coming back to this place again!
N. H.
The food was perfect, the staff is polite and friendly. It had a great vibe of been a bit special but not pretentious. The food was fancy but still good sized servings I would highly recommend.
不懂英文的也可以來,餐點很推薦 他們也有提供中文菜單👍

Having walked by many times and ogled at people eating delicious seafood, we finally gave in and tried them over the weekend. The food was an absolute stunner - nothing haute cuisine but simple food done damn well!
The Thai fish cakes were the softest I have ever had and the battered fish of the day was almost like eating a slab of butter that just belts to a silk smooth texture in your mouth.
Pro tip: The Lot May sound like a lot but given how tasty it is, it is fit for one very hungry person and maybe to share with a couple more dishes.
Do try the chili Calamari entree with Tabluleh!
Just amazing and the service was prompt, friendly and efficient too.
K. W. T.
Ordered a mixed grill, scallop linguini and a salmon tataki. The seafood were really fresh and good especially the scallops and I really like the octopus. A pity is the portion ain’t that big as other aussies restaurants. Staffs were really friendly and humorous as well, 5 stars for them! Reservation is recommended as it’s really crowded during dinner time.
K. M.
Nice atmosphere, good food selection including GF options, attentive staff with fast service. Fair prices. Busy for a Monday night so I'd definitely book ahead.
T. R.
As an Australian mainlain visitor I visited this restaurant fir the first time for a Thursday lunch, and while reasonably busy, was able to easiy get a table. There's a lunch menu (smaller portion size, lower price) but one may still order a main plate/meal. Food was excellent. Salmon sashimi tastes fresh; Thai fishcakes were delicious with a clear dipping sauce that added a wonderful mild heat to the flavour; the battered fish was delicate, yet meaty - the batter was excellent and crisp and fresh, while the chips were crunchy crisp - served with a light refreshing salad. Dessert looked amazing (I didn't taste of it, but lunch companions enjoyed it). Good drinks menu. Cosy restaurant with great staff. Situated close to the waterfront but warm inside. Nice location in Salamanca - a pleasant walk to and from the restaurant. Highly recommended.
P. R.
Blue Eye is a great seafood restaurant on the edge of Salamanca Place. The chowder was delicious. A rich and creamy curry sauce with pieces of fish, mussels and scallops. The charcoal grilled blue eye was delicious topped off with chips and salad.
The chocolate mousse was superbly presented with chocolate shards.
Y. L.
Compared to other restaurants, the price is relatively affordable, especially in happy-hour which means 3 to 5 in the afternoon between Tuesday to Saturday,or lunch special。Good atmosphere and friendly service。Scallops are quite delicious。
S. G.
What a find! Thanks Google!
We had the most delicious and relaxing lunch at Blue Eye Seafood restaurant on the Salamanca side of the harbour in Hobart - $2 local oysters (Barilla Bay) and $7 Tasmanian Arras sparkling for the win!!
Rounded out with amazing sashimi, seafood dumplings and chilli salt squid. Lovely service from Susie. Highly recommend a visit when next in Hobart. We can't wait to return.
R. W.
Exceptional fresh and delicious seafood with lovely atmosphere! Definitely visit again on my next trip to Tasmania!
Y.
Very fresh seafood with great service. Their lunch deals are pretty worth it (cheaper than dinner price). They have promotional price for oyster at $2 each from 1pm (or 11am can’t rmb) - 5pm.
T. N. (.
I went here by myself and had an excellent seafood mixed grill paired with a few nice wines. The staff was incredibly friendly as well. Definitely one of the restaurants you must visit when in Hobart.
J. L.
I thought the staff were a bit weird. I really liked my dish. Whereas my wife's sea food pie was ordinary ordinary and overpriced. Waited for 30min for our food. Food was 4 stars. Service was 3.
A. D.
We had the salmon sashimi, chilli mussels, oysters and blue eye. Everything was super fresh and tasted amazing. Definitely coming back next time we're in town.
C.
Great food and wine. Especially love the blue eye and oyster. A lovely restaurant that is close to the market with great staff.
L. R. H.
Fantastic service and tasty seafood, though the portions were on the small side. The octopus was particularly good.
J. H.
Great oysters! Lots of locals (good sign!) and very good service - recommended:)
R. B.
Pretty good. I would have really liked to have Blue Eye but they didn't have it on the menu. So that was the only let down.
M. M.
Theres nothing to fault at this place. Fantastic seafood, wonderful staff, reasonable prices, lovely decor. Cannot believe we took so long to find it. Back next weekend
S. K.
Amazing food and amazing service. They accommodated our large group with ease and we all had a great time. Could not fault anything.
G. C.
Salmon was surprisingly good! Do order octopus and scallops. Prawns might be over cooked. Overall this is a good dinner place, especially if you like fusion food.
T. M.
High quality seafood restaurant. Good service and nice atmosphere. Portion sizes were good. Will be on our fav list.
H. T.
Came here for the oyster special and it was worth it. The service was very friendly and attentive. Will definitely come back next time we are in Hobart.
A. L.
Love this place.
Great service and better food.
Scallops!!!! Just great.
Wines are a little pricey but they are also great.
I'll be back soon. Looking forward to trying a few other items on the menu. I've seen some of the other reviews but they don't reflect our experience at all.
A.
My fav restaurant in hobart
Loved their fish and chips
It was probably the best f&c ive ever had
Highly recommend
(Also they do $2 oyster happy hour!)
T. D.
Just had the most amazing lunch of seafood. Fine fare, fast service and friendly staff. Thoroughly recommended.
S. M.
Amazing food and absolutely wonderful staff. Thank you so much for a lovely evening, next time we're in Tassie we will be dropping by.
C. J.
Great staff and service, but more importantly, the food was superb. Very hearty, the seafood pie was absolutely spot on for a cold winter's night. Mixed grill was fresh.
C.
Really good food and service but if you book you will have to ask for a decent table. On the waterfront and thoughtful family service.
P. B.
Oyster were delicious! Lovely service and a great spot to enjoy a bubbles on a Saturday afternoon
L. G.
Went there tonight for dinner with our two year old. The staff were amazing with him and the food (seafood banquet) was exceptional! My husband and I love seafood but we have never experienced such a unique seafood banquet. The flavours were delicious, the spread was incredible, the seafood so fresh and cooked perfectly and we really appreciated that it included a salad, some vegetables and chips too. What a great restaurant!
R. P.
Wow how amazing the food was perfect.
The cocktails were awesome. The staff are fantastic & so friendly.
From entree to main was fantastic I highly recommend this restaurant. I am from Sydney visiting Hobart seafood is the one here.
J. W.
Love the oyster here. 3-5pm Oyster Orgy AUD2 per oyster! What a great deal with great service!
k.
Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Slightly overpriced meal for what you are getting.
A. D.
My partner and I dined here last week and really enjoyed the seafood. The calamari and sashimi were incredibly fresh and tasty with the accompaniments.
The restaurant itself is in a great location and it was lovely sitting outside. Staff are super friendly also. Would definitely recommend to others when visiting Hobart.
A. G.
Cocktails and wine list have good variety and enjoyable. Lunch menu was basic but reasonable value. I had the calamari, chips and salad. The calamari was a little over-cooked, overpowered with fish flavour which was obviously cooked in the same oil as fish, and the presentation was a little like a kids meal. Atmosphere and service were better than average.
D.
The seafood platter served over 3 courses with a glass of wine was a show case of tasmania seafood and a must for lovers of good quality seafood
T. L.
The food is fresh and delicious. The place is cosy. But the price is little bit high... other than that, very good!
G. S.
Went on a holiday in Tasmania and wanted to try out all the fresh seafood. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the oysters as they have a wide range of flavours to try! Most importantly the experience was even better due to the amazing service we received from Steph the waitress, she was friendly, knowledgeable and made the experience even more enjoyable. Would highly recommend this restaurant if you’re going in to Hobart!
J. L.
Always a pleasure. Great food and the crew efficient and friendly.
D. Z.
Nice food, but there was a waiter/manager looks really unhappy when he did the table services 😒, don't understand why he never smile.
B. B.
Had mixed grill from the menu. Was really wonderful!! Loved the staff and service. Ambience was perfect for the holiday!! Definitely would go for a second round 😃
M. F.
Nicely cooked Salmon and vegetables. Affordable too. Service was super friendly.
M. L.
Beautiful food and atmosphere. Was super busy on a Saturday night but our server still had the time to be especially nice.
J. C.
Ordered the surf & turf and it was fantastic cooked great.
G. C.
Beautiful food and good solid service. As good a seafood restaurant as there is in Hobart. That's not to speak disparagingly of others at all, but the food at Blue Eye is excellent. We are regulars for both dine-in and take-away and really enjoy our 'Friday Night' treats in particular. Many thanks to Joff, Susie and the Team.
K. S.
We had a lovely dinner. Our server was very helpful and had a wonderful sense of humour. It was valentine day and very busy.
The food was fantastic. The hospitality was wonderful. It's a shame I live in Brisbane and can't visit more often. We really did love it.
Thank you for a lovely night.
D. C.
We had a fantastic night served by Steph, she was an amazing stuff helping us with very good recommendations and tips for surroundings. food was great for its price too. :)
G. G.
Greek salad, prawn dumplings, sea food grills!! Food, Drink, stuffs(especially the one who served us!)Amazing!
L. B. C.
Dinner was yummy and so fresh and the staff were great!
H. F.
Great food! Always fresh and yummy. Great choice of drinks and a view of the water front that looks spectacular!
P. R.
Great Seafood. Good Service. Wonderful location
N. G.
Go off-peak to get half price oysters. A great deal. Great location.
N. O.
We chose to eat here based on excellent reviews. I got to say, the reviews were bang on. The seafood we had (Oysters, grilled BlueEye and seafood pasta) was just amazing complimented by great service and great wine. The staff were super helpful with our little 7 month year old and provided us plenty of space for our pram. Price was reasonable. We would absolutely go back again in a heartbeat. Many thanks for the restaurant manager who made our visit special.
B. B.
Lovely food good service a little pricey but hey
C. K.
Grill mixed seafood is so good , excellent food and service. We never try such good seafood before and highly recommended to seafood lovers definitely will go back when we visit Hobart again
D. W.
The food was amazing and the staff were really amazing to
C. E.
Service was excellent with happy, chatty staff. Scallops were excellent and my wife's fish was very good. Definitely have to book.
R. B.
Very impressed with the service, first class and helpful with the menu as well.
The meals were great and I didn't hear a complaint from anyone. We are sure to eat here again.
N. M.
Delicious food, friendly staff, nice atmosphere
S. G.
I like the atmosphere, but mixed grilled were bit oily to me.
R. C.
Fabulous place. A great shout for a casual dinner in Hobart. Best seafood I've had in a long time.
P. J.
Delicious, well presented seafood which may be fried crumbed or seared. Scallops superb while octopus to die for. Friendly and prompt staff. Best meal ever in Hobart I have experienced.
O. A.
I was unsure what to order. I had narrowed it down to 6 to choose from. Jed, the waiter, guided me in my final selections. Jed helped us pick drinks, starters & mains and got them all perfect. Food was absolutely delicious.
N. D.
Great fresh seafood. Daily lunch specials a bargain, try the seafood linguine and the oyster specials in the afternoon. Friendly helpful staff
L. D.
Best Oysters! Such an amazing restaurant. 10/10.
P. G.
Wonderful food, beautifully fresh seafood was just what i was after; fantastic service topped it off. Not the cheapest, but worth it.
A. M.
Terrific. Friendly and upbeat service. Great meals for a fair price. Lunch menu is ideal serving size for middle of day dining. Relaxed, fresh feel. Easy to get to at the southern end of Salamanca. Kids definitely welcomed.
C. D.
As a non fish eater, I can say with 100% honesty, the food at Blue Eye is the best seafood I have ever tasted. I ate their variety of prawn dishes like no tomorrow, their Seafood pie was devoured and my kids had 3 serves each of their crumbed prawns and prawn dumplings. The management was also flexible on menu to assist with kids. Brilliant!!! Highlight of our trip to Tassie.
B. p.
great food and restaurant in Hobart. The best sweet potatoes
J. F.
We visited this restaurant twice in 3 days. The steamed mussels in white wine was the best I have ever had. The salmon and blue fish sashimi was also very delicious. Price was reasonable and service was good. Strongly recommend if you want to eat good seafood in Tasmania.
A. S.
Ordered the share platter for 2 and we had trouble finishing it. The food was amazing.
T. M.
The $2 oysters drew us in, then they were matched with Arras sparkling wine, and soon it turned into a seafood banquet with local Tassie fare and wines. The scallops, mussels and oysters were all superb. The wine list is excellent and staff were the kind that guide you in your selections - they don't just take an order. We forgot the Taste of Tassie was on, and had no regrets whatsoever (but we did go the next day 😊)
Great place to lunch and while away an afternoon with good friends.
Only dilemma is whether we will have time to return!
A.
Great service & great food. I'm not a big eater of seafood but thought I would give it a go anyway. We ordered a lot of the smaller dishes to share as a table which were thoroughly enjoyed by all.
L. O.
Great service to start, the seafood was unbelievably fresh, salmon sashimi.....oysters, then octopus omg....friendly welcoming can't say much more.
Thank you
G. C.
Great place to dine beautiful food excellent service
M. R.
Very friendly staff, quick and very good service and quality food. Located right in the harbour this is probably the best fish restaurant quality/price wise I’m Hobart. We went for the mixed grilled platter which in my opinion is a bit more than just right for 1 person and quite a bit too less for 2. We also had the sea salt squid as a side. The two together were just right for 2 pax. We spend around $60 on just food.
All together with drinks and dessert we ended up spending just over $100 for an excellent meal for 2. Would definitely recommend this place!
m. r.
The best place to eat in Hobart. I know. I know. But it's true.
S. A. R.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. Hubby who isn’t Big on seafood also really liked his fish and chips while I had the seafood marinara which was beautiful. Lots of options to choose from and I wish I had the appetite to try more. Definitely go with another seafood lover so you can try more dishes. Good selection of drinks too. The place was packed and everyone around seemed to be having a good time. Great service. Very quick!
M. S.
We dined here with friends from Queensland on Saturday night who we ran into in Hobart prior to dining. When we arrived, we asked if we could alter our booking for 2 to 4 and we were accommodated happily despite the restaurant being almost full.
Our waiter Jed handled our special requests with aplomb, he was also very entertaining.
Our entire experience was brilliant. We would absolutely recommend this venue.
PS we made a suprise visit on Monday evening after a disappointing dinner at another local restaurant and Jed was again a gem in dealing with my partner's requests. All in all, we recommend this venue to anyone.
Another big plus is that for some reason Hobart restaurants want to fry the local seafood, whereas Blue Eye, do give you the option of the seafood shining through without being covered in crumbs/batter and oil. 👍
J. F.
Outstanding! We requested a good table - special wedding anniversary that night and it was great. My 2nd visit and it was consistent - excellent. Brilliant value for money, superb food and check out the loos for some retro reading! They new it was a special occasion it noted.... Probably could have sold us more champagne 🥂
D. W.
Superb seafood and service, we had the seafood banquet and could not fault it, top class and highly recommend.
S. S. m.
The seafood amd cooking are highly recommended, and the staff is so friendly to serve too
E. B.
Amazing staff - we didn't have to wait for anything. They were attentive and friendly especially Juppy! The food was incredible. Best meal we've had in a very long time. Fresh, beautifully cooked fish with delicious salads and vegetables. My husband's lemon creme brulee for dessert was to die for.
I. R.
Very disappointed. Seemed to have good reviews and was recommended by others who love visiting Tasmania. I expected the amazing seafood experience of Tasmania. We instead got a very subpar experience. Positives are that the mains that came out were plentiful and the fish and chips with blue eye was great.
The first issues was in the fact that a shrimp entree had three shrimp cut up into halves and cost around $27 dollars. Do not get this!
The other issues entree took about 20-25 minutes to come out and it was a cold dish and the mains took another 30-40 minutes after that. When I inquired about the wait, after noticing that two other tables received and finished their meals before we got ours and they had order after us, the response was "I am sorry, are you in a rush?" And "we are busy tonight". They did comp us a beer for our wait, but I still didn't care to be responded that way for a simple inquiry.
P. A.
Best seafood I've had in Tasmania and beats almost every place around Melbourne for freshness and execution. Not as creative as the top end of Melbourne or Sydney, but for a menu designed to let the seafood ingredients shine I've rarely experienced better.
C. O.
Had the mixed seafood, which is good. Portion is just nice for one person, but good for sharing too. We didn't get the platter because it looks too big for us, but I feel that's the one to go for to really get the best of Blue Eye. The waiting staff are very attentive
We were seated very quickly at around 11:30am, but it quickly filled up at noon, so make sure to make reservations to avoid disappointment.
J. W.
Great atmosphere, tucked away from the main strip of shops and restaurants. Fantastic food; seafood platter was great and was really tough to finish there was so much on the plates. Surf n' Turf was also huge; a full-sized steak and plenty of prawns and scallops. Loved the service from our waiter - can't remember his name but a young Aussie lad who knew his stuff and great personality.
J. H.
Very nice food, staff are friendly too.
D. K.
Amazing, well be back, service and food great 👍
S. K.
My mum (photo) and I had a lovely meal here on a cool November evening. It was super busy and we didn't have a reservation but we got lucky with the last outdoor table. They had the heaters on so we were very cosy. We had a lovely lady waiter with short blonde hair who was very friendly. The food was excellent. I knew that Tassie was known for seafood, just didn't know how much better it could be... It is exceptional. I didn't know scallops tasted like that - amazing! Good drinks. Reasonably priced. Casual but very good food and service.
C. W.
Fresh seafood linguine. Generous serve
C. H.
Amazing fresh oysters, fish pie was so tasty but not too rich as they can be sometimes, chilli squid was sublime!
M. M.
Went to Blue Eye with my wife to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. It was crowded but we weren't forced to wait. We decided to try the seafood platter for two. It was brought out over 3 courses and all of it was delicious. The service was outstanding. Emilia looked after us well, and made us feel both welcome and at ease. Strongly recommend Blue Eye.
G.
Fantastic! Great service. The young lady serving us was super nice. Couldn't help tip her.
S. D.
On our return visit to Blue Eye in Hobart the staff provided great customer interaction and delicious food. Our interstate guest were impressed by the fabulous seafood dishes along with their delectable fruity desserts. Tables were allocated for a two hour period as the restaurant was busy (but not crazy). We will certainly return.
s. t.
Great food and customer service. Portions were a bit small for the price. But great experience overall lovely experience. Highly recommend the the octopus and brownie for dessert. Don't recommend the salt and pepper squid
J. B.
Remarkable seafood and service. Have never experienced such a fast turnaround on meals and drinks. Friendly and down to earth staff. Lovely setting. Just terrific! Thank you
L. S.
I come here every single time I visit Tassie (I live in Newcastle, NSW) and it's always amazing. The seafood platter is to die for! Love your work, and your delicious food! Can't wait to come back again :)
S. M.
Great selection of seafood, very good!
E. D.
Oysters selection is amazing! Seafood linguine is the favourite for a reason. great service as well. highly recommended👍🏼😊
D. D.
They serve the best seafood in Hobart! Great oysters with a great wine list that was value for money. The staff were attentive and knew the dishes well. Thanks Suzie, you're a star! Will return
M. B.
Delicious sashimi, excellent scallop mussel linguini, excellent fisherman’s basket. Friendly, prompt, pleasant location and decor. Fair pricing for quality. We will return! Happy hour oysters 3-5pm :-)
T. F.
Fantastic experience. The food was just perfect, the staff we polite and friendly. It had a great vibe of been a bit special but not pretentious. The food was fancy but still good sized servings and fairly priced. I would highly recommend.
M. S.
We ate here 2 years ago and find the seafood outstanding. We made a point of coming back this time and we found it a notch down compared to 2 years ago. My wife's salmon was overcooked and a bit dry, and so was my pork belly, which is a shame considering the prices.
M. P.
Excellent seafood, service could be more refined
L. M. A.
Fresh and beautifully cooked, this was the best seafood feast we had in Tassie. Abalone, oysters and the freshest flathead I've ever eaten. The service was excellent with everything served hot and timed perfectly. Definitely recommended!
M. G.
Enjoyed NYE dinner with family. Mussels starter, grilled Blue Eye main, sticky date desert, all exceptional. Great wine list includes some of Tassie's best Pinot Noir. Great service. If your after quality Tassie seafood and wine I recommend Blue Eye.
Y. Å. M. Ê. Z.
Beautiful fresh seafood in the heart of Salamanca. Overlooking Princes wharf, Blue Eye serves the freshest fish and seafood in Hobart hands down. Check the blackboard to see how many food miles the fish have under their belt.
I ordered the traditional battered fish and chips. It was a generous serving consisting of two large fillets of flathead with chips and mushy peas. The fish tasted very fresh and the chips were bang on. My dining partner had one of the daily specials, scallop pie. It was beautifully presented with a ring of grilled Tasmanian scallops surrounding the pie and a quenelle of mushy peas sitting on top.
Service was prompt and friendly.
I would highly recommend trying Blue Eye.
B. B.
No point making a review because there's already heaps... but I can't help myself. Blue Eye has beautifully cooked, fresh seafood; which is what everybody wants when they come to Tasmania. In addition, their steaks great too. Whenever we had visitors we go to Blue Eye and everybody is impressed, every time. Thanks guys!
T. Z.
Great food.. the mixed grill is perfect to cover all bases of seafood. The friendly staff are amazing and have the best recommendations to get value for money. Highly recommend and would visit again next time I'm in Hobart
A. S.
Best service, make sure to try the oyster shot! It was the best!
A. H.
Incredible seafood dishes & friendly staff
C. H.
Great food, great service!!
Fantastic experience from start to finish! Warmly greeted with helpful information about the menu, specials and wine list. The Oysters were fantastic, we had a mix of natural, Kilpatrick, fusion and tempura. The natural were amazing and the other variants used ingredients complimentary to the oysters rather than overpowering or masking the amazing taste. The pate was fantastic, generous portions, more than enough to share for 2! Then we come to the Barbeque pirate bay octopus. With greek salad and chips. Beautiful flavour, incredibly fresh. You actually don't need the chips. The octopus salad is so filling and refreshing it doesn't need any bolstering. Will definitely be coming back!!!
C. R.
Nice food but the service wasn't fantastic. The food came quickly but found the waiter to be a bit rude. The seafood was excellent, it came with some sides which were average. It was a nice place but probably will be a one off visit for me.
T. E.
We had the lunch menu here. Excellent value and everything we ate was simple but delicious. Would be keen to explore full dinner menu. Good wine selection
C. U.
Very nice seafood restaurant. The oysters were super fresh and the smoked salmon pate very tasty. Very attentive and knowledgeable staff. Would I come back? Absolutely. 9.5/10
J. L.
Very busy restaurant but super fast service. Food was outstanding and we enjoyed every bit of it. Highly recommended, especially the cold lobster dish.
M. S.
First class place to eat at
Service very helpful, wine list by glass pretty good, the quality of the dishes excellent and not over cooked. Delicious seafood
Well worth a visit or two
S. W.
I normally choose at least two courses from the black board which are always great.
9 times out of 10 it is one of the best restaurants in Hobart but occasionally they like any other have an off day.The only bad dish I have ever had there was one serving of overcooked fish and soggy chips. Greg the chef and partner must have had the day off. The fish is usually cooked to perfection with a light crispy batter and chips fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside, absolute perfection and never bettered outside Tasmania (excluding the UK).
J. P.
Absolutely amazing.my wife and I had the seafood share platter, with the pickled octopus and chargrilled blue eye being an absolute highlight. Massive thanks to our server Tasma for being so helpful with fantastic service tonight!
M. N.
All in all a very enjoyable mean at Blue Eye.
The food was a little expensive ($32) for what was effectively a Fisherman's basket for one, but it was made with care and was very tatsy.
What was on the plate was pretty well as good as it gets for fried Fish and Chips, crispy batter with absolutely no soggy or stodgy bits and the fish inside was just cooked through and full of flavour and moisture, sweet potato fries (normal potato available as well) cooked well, just cooked through crumbed scallops and a nice little salad. There was also a tasty little Prawn dim sim that had it's own little dipping sauce, i thought it was a little odd at first given the rest of the dish but the prawn shone through and was a nice distraction.
Service was attentive and friendly, my Standard G&T came out with a full measure of gin, good quality tonic and both lemon and lime in a nice glass (that drink set the tone for the rest of the meal, good quality, good size, prepared and served with care) meals came out quickly and were served hot. The only downside was the noise, we unfortunately had two big tables come into the restaurant half way through our meals and two particular ladies made more noise than the other 18 or so sat around them. Not the restaurants fault but it did highlight that there are lots of hard surfaces in the place and the noise just bounced around, perhaps some more soft furnishings would help.
As an aside, we had our two year old daughter with us and as soon as we sat down a kids menu & crayons were provided, the menu had a page behind it to colour in. A welcome and unexpected touch.
9.5/10 for the food
7/10 for the pricing
8/10 for service and fittings.
R. P.
Food was average to slightly above average (Thai fish cakes, mixed grill, cheese platter + wine). The service was great but the cheese platter was my favourite dish.
D. C.
It was a good meal, but I expected more from all the hype! I was surprised that it was not as expected. A let down. I will not say it was a bad meal, but I would not go back.
S. C.
Phenomenal food and wine.
The octopus in the mixed grill was the best thing I ate in Tassie.
I also had some of the best wines of my life here.
Missing this place already.
L. F.
Blue Eye Restaurant, Salamanca place Hobart is my favorite seafood restaurant at the moment. Casual but comfortable it offers great drink options and wonderful seafood at reasonable prices. Menu and daily specials offer great options to choose from. Terrific service. Highly recommended.
K. V. M.
I had given this a 5 star review because it really was stellar the first 2 times we went there. The 3rd time my dinner showed up cold, 1/2 the size it had been the previous week, and missing 2 of the things it was meant to come with. Really disappointed after having such great meals there. Maybe it depends on what chef is working that day.
I. L.
We ordered special of the day: blue fin tuna. Tuna steak was good size but felt overcooked and dry. Prices are at the high end. Was disappointed. We went back a couple of nights later, the steak was cooked better. Hit and miss at times.
s. k.
Best sea food, it’s delicious 😋. Hospitality is good. Ambience, food, Decor everything is wonderful. Must try hot oysters, scallops, king prawns 🦐. Overall experience is good.
M. K.
Great place for fresh seafood. Baby abalone and fish & chips were superb, not forgeting the mussels as well as The Lot - seafood platter with chips. Excellent and friendly service from staff
I. A. O.
OK lunch with good wine and very friendly staff. Best fried fish we have had in Tasmania, the Blue Eye, good quality fish but overcooked. Oysters seemed not that fresh, octopus was overcooked and hard, salmon sashimi was ok and chili squid was the best.
E.
Great food! (Seafood pie for the win!) better for groups over a quiet dinner. Pricey but worth it.
Thanks guys!!
M. S.
Blue Eye always deliver. I don't think I've ever been disappointed with the food or the friendly service at this restaurant. I had lunch with a friend there just the other day and I really enjoyed my meal and so did my friend. Being close to my work is an added bonus!!
Z. R.
Pork scallop dish that could be and prob was the best tasting dish Ive have ever had. Great food. Would have like to of saw a fresh seafood (not cooked) dish on the menu beside the oysters. Highly recommended. Great place.
W. A.
When in doubt...follow the crowd...and it was the best decision to order the recommended mussels in white wine, sashimi salmon and blue fish, chargrilled octopus and curried clam chowder. Stefanie was a gem and you could see her eyes discreetly looking over her tables to ensure the guests were well taken care. She paced our food well. The elderly gentleman next to us was alone but we could see him savouring his mussels, wine and dessert with Stef caring on him on every serving. Keep up the excellent service!
B. a. B.
Very enjoyable meal, good quality and reasonably priced, staff friendly, professional, certinally worth visiting there again.
M. R.
Love Blue Eye. Great variety of the best Tassie food and WINE....staff always friendly & v helpful. They are happy to fit in with most dietary needs. Did I mention great location. Dine inside or out.
L. M.
Arrived for a very late lunch ( due to flight delay). The reception from staff was very warm and welcoming. The service was great. Wait staff attentive. The food was devine! Shared the seafood platter. Price was as expected for the quality. Highly recommended
L. R.
Always fresh fish and seafood. Friendly and efficient service. Locals know to book rather than just rock up. Also good value!
P. B.
Wonderful Tasmanian seafood - straight from the docks!!
Attentive staff with excellent senses of humour & full knowledge of products.
Casual or dress-up ... whatever.
Open at lunchtime 'till ...... 🤗🤗

Best seafood I've had in Tasmania and beats almost every place around Melbourne for freshness and execution. Not as creative as the top end of Melbourne or Sydney, but for a menu designed to let the seafood ingredients shine I've rarely experienced better.
M. R.
Very friendly staff, quick and very good service and quality food. Located right in the harbour this is probably the best fish restaurant quality/price wise I’m Hobart. We went for the mixed grilled platter which in my opinion is a bit more …
R. L.
Great night. Amazing food and fantastic hospitality. Best scallops I’ve eaten in years. The staff knew their stuff and had a great sense of humour to go with it. Highly recommend.
M. K.

Seafood was good quality and fresh. Staff were friendly and helpful. I think it probably gets crowded in the summer. Recommend get reservation in advance unless you go early.

a. y.
One of the best seafood I've had in Australia. Everything tasted so fresh and cooked to perfection.
M. L.
Great lunch, great service.
G. W.
Excellent service and great food at a very reasonable price.
D. M.
I will start with what I loved:
Service - our host and hostess were polite, welcoming, and attentive.
Salmon and Blue Eye cod/trevalla sashimi entre - The fish was perfect and very tasty.
What I liked:
Barbecue Octopus entre - while it would have been better served without sauce to show off the octopus, served as is was nice enough.
Salt and Chili Squid entre - would have benefited from more Chili.
Beer - the beer started off well but left a lingering slightly metallic after-taste.
What I disliked:
Price - while not exorbitant the price was over where it should be based on the quality served.
(not me but my wife) Scallop and Pork mains special - scallops were overdone and the pork was dry. The BBQ sauce provided on the side didn't match the meal.
What made me cry:
Grilled Blue Eye mains special - I can live with the fish being served slightly over, but this fish's delicate flavour was completely hidden behind a strong Salsa Verde. I found myself feeling bad for the fish.
A. T.
We were a large group and they made accommodations for us all which was fantastic. The food was amazing and the staff were all lovely. Great place to eat
R. H.
Lovely fresh seafood. The bbq octopus was spectacular. Our waiter was entertaining and picked out some good wines to go with our meal.
S. D.
Beautiful food, and friendly staff, but disappointed that they started clearing the table before my wife had finished eating. I was always taught to wait until the whole table had finished eating.
K. G.
Great place, great food, but a little pricey for the portion. I guess it's quality > quantity. The mixed grill was excellent but set me back $40.
D. M.
Oysters and seafood chowder can not be beaten
K. D.
The restaurant was great. The staff were very professional and accommodating to our needs. Will go again , next time were in Hobart.
N. M.
Great setting, lovely menu - good way to experience quality Tasmanian we a food. Oh, and great wine list.
D. B.
Stunning seafood beautifully cooked, including Tassie scallops and green lipped abalone. Attentive and efficient wait staff. Buzzing atmosphere
C. W.
Absolutely amazing! Great staff great service beautifully cooked quality seafood. Artwork on the walls was slightly creepy but otherwise no faults at all
T. S.
A quality seafood restaurant at the wharf. The restaurant appealed to us because it was very well situated, with harbor views, modern, light. With ornate decoupage, wall hangings, depicting varying kinds of fish. Very innovative. Also a purpose built balcony for alfresco dining. The restauranteur has a good history in seafood restaurants. We anticipated having a good night. Our choice was the seafood platter, for two peoples, served over two courses; cold entree platter of tiger prawns, sashimi, pickled octopus salad + lemon vinaigrette. Followed by a hot seafood selection; char grilled ocean trout, blue eye, Thai fishcakes, seared squid, beer battered fish, chips, dipping sauces. All was beautifully prepared and presented, absolutely delicious. The selection of fish plus the tasty accompaniments presented a wide range of flavors and textures, that were very pleasing to the pallet. Loverly desserts, delicious. Excellent service. Everything we expected and more. Recommend.
S. W.
Loved the look, feel and food - I had the lunch special salmon ceasar salad, fantastic art on the walls, including the loo! Fabtastic food, friendly, witty, staff ...I shall be visiting again.
P. B.

Wonderful seafood linguini ❤️ very friendly personell 🤗 and great price. Only the wine was not so much to my liking. Still highly recommend it!! 🤗🤗
I. M.
Quick service which was good as we had two young and tired children. Absolutely loved the seafood pie, most delicious meal I had in Hobart during our stay.
M. D.
Some real "Home-Runs" and a few, uh, just, "meh" items. To be fair, the Home-Runs were simply divine... and worth eating past the non-freshly-caught mussels and non-caramelised chorizo dish. (so close, on that one - it just wasn't communicated that there'd be no shells. ie: not "fresh" mussels). Linguine & scallops, Scallops and Pork Belly, Occie, & Blue Eye dishes (the Mains) - were simply all fantastic. Service above average, by a long way! That was a nice touch. And the desserts: Apricot Gelato. Yep. Yum. Look- so close to 5/5... Acoustics in the joint were actually good: you didn't have to shout to your table-mates. I'd say it's closer to 4.5/5... Cheers Blue Eye - we'll be back.
m. r.
Great lunch specials. Seafood linguine so full of fresh scallops, mussels and fish. Very attentive and friendly staff
J. R. M.
