Flippers is the busiest spot along the wharf and for good reason. Food is hot, fresh, tasty and fast. You season your food with the seasonings of your choice at the pickup window and the staff are very friendly. It's certainly not cheap, but it is good quality.

I have now ordered takeaway here twice and both times enjoyed the fish and chips very much! It is always crunchy and well cooked, but you do have to season well yourself at the window. They have vinegar, salt, chicken salt, seasoned salt, and tomato sauce available. Serving size is pretty generous so I think it is reasonably priced. We have tried their fish, chips, fish cocktail, crab stick and potato cake. Everything tasted delicious but the potato cake had a bit of a strange background taste to it that I haven't had in any potato cake before. However that was honestly a minor issue and I will revisit again for sure - great fish and chips!

Looks like mix bag reviews for this place, but after a bad experience around the corner (FF), decided to try Flippers instead - as it seemed a lot of locals were coming here. I must have gotten lucky with the Tasmanian salmon and chips. Great price, good portion, well cooked, and nice chips.

Had the fish burger and scallops, wish it had said the fish burger was actually a roll filled with only coleslaw (a lot) and a piece of fish (see picture) as I was expecting a more traditional style fish burger and I’m not a huge fan of coleslaw. Otherwise the fish was fine and the scallops were a little over cooked but still ok. Service was friendly and quick and the location is awesome on the harbour.

nice central location although I was not pleased with the levelling of the counter. Ordered fishermans basket and box of treats and was plenty between 2. The service was friendly and fast as there were a couple of familes ordering before us. The food was fresh and good quality and price reflected it. Ensure you eat it fresh and 5 min parking bay avaliable infront. Self serve chicken salt was an excellent addition. Take away only but accepted card and cash. If you want an Aussie Fish n Chips experience with seagulls trying to eat your food, eating by the water while the world goes by and fish and chips with plenty of tartare sauce eat at Flippers!

Great location, great value and always the freshest seafood. I always try their catch of the day, especially if it’s grenadier. The portion sizes are huge and really well priced compared to other nearby spots. They did over cook my calamari on one occasion but the fish, be it grilled, battered or crumbed, is always on point.

Delicious fresh fish next to the water. Be sure to keep an eye on the seagulls as they will harass you to feed them; we ended up moving around to the Mawson Place sign to avoid them. Great little spot for lunch where you sit on the dock and let the world pass by.

Not accessible for wheelchairs so bring a friend that can make the steps down to the order counter. Does accept credit cards. Food ready pretty quickly even with large crowd.

Love calling here to pick up calamari or flake. The food quality has varied a little for me based on the time of my visit, but when it comes to fish and chips I think that’s understandable later in the day. On the whole I recommend, especially for a lunchtime treat.. just don’t let the seagulls steal your food!

Nice little floating fish and chip shop. The fish tastes really fresh and served straight out from the fryer, supplied in a nice little box for you (and the gulls) to enjoy. Prices are slightly pricey but rather reasonable compared to Mures nearby, which is super overpriced to cater for the tourists. I highly recommend popping here, getting your fish and not going to Mures.

Took my fish and chip loving partner here during our time in Tassie and was blown away. We loved it! We went twice in one week! First time we ordered a flake and chips each and second time got a pack with flake, chips, potato cakes and fried dim sims. Everything was delicious, the flake had a light and crunchy batter that didn’t fall away from the fish and the chips were hard to stop eating! We usually feel a little off after indulging in fish and chips due to the grease and weight of the batter but we felt light and satisfied after eating here. I love that we order right from the boat and are able to salt and season the food to our taste at the counter. Definitely go here if you love a good flake and if you’re visiting Hobart it’s a must!

$14 for two decent sized fillets of battered trevalla and a big serve of chips underneath. The fish were fresh and tasty. Half of the chips were crisp and the other half were soggy and limp - all of the chips were rather bland. The waiting time was pretty reasonable. Make sure to liberally season your chips with salt/chicken salt if you want them to have any flavour at all. The menu also listed ALL sauces (including tomato sauce) as $2/ea which was quite outlandish.

Flippers certainly won't leave you flipping out about how great it was. A tomato sauce at $2 will make your wallet feel more dried up than your mouth after eating a potato cake without it. Watch out for the perfect storm when you're eating since there will be not sheltered areas to protect you. Chips were good, meals are reasonably priced, and the place is on a quirky floating barge.

No trip to Hobart is complete without a meal from Flippers. Located right on the waterfront as a converted barge - you order at one end, and collect your meal from the other end when your number is called. A good variety of menu options cooked fresh to order. The location does bring its own challenge, however, in the form of voracious and determined seagulls that will stalk you in the hope of a chip. The food is of a high quality, but it is one of the more expensive fish & chip options available in the city.

Reasonable priced for a reasonably sized serve, only downside the person who served us didnt quite understand we wanted half of the dinner for 2 crumbed and the other half battered. We wanted the battered fish to be flake, but they changed us from flake to truvella because the flake only comes battered, this cost us extra because they 'upgraded' the meal to the T42 deluxe since the truvella can be either crumbed or battered. We didnt ask for truvella, we always wanted flake for at least one of the pieces of fish.
