Comments of Frank Restaurant
M. C.
Great location by the pier. Very modern, sleek decor with funky lighting.
I was expecting the cuisine to be more authentically Argentine, but it was tasty enough, although we were never asked how we wanted the meat cooked and the portions were on the small side. The banana dessert was disappointing.
K. M.
Dining at Frank was wonderful. Staff were so wonderful and the ambience was great. Loved the set up. Wine list and cocktails are in point and the steak was tasty. Pork belly was good but would probably opt for something else next time. I heard the croquettes were worth a try and they did not disappoint!
A. P. S.
We came here as our special date night for our anniversary weekend in Hobart. I can see exactly why this restaurant is rated so highly. The food was delicious, the drinks tasty and the service incredibly attentive & friendly. Nicely situated near the docks, it is a perfect place to enjoy great Argentinean cuisine.
A. G.
Overall the dining experience is good everytime I come to Frank. It can be a bit hit and miss with some dishes though. The croquettes are always amazing and the meatballs are delicious! The lamb shoulder and the steaks can be a bit hit and miss but overall the flavours and experience is good. The wait staff is always great here
N. O.
Had a fantastic night with my partner. The food was all on point, my partner loved the oysters and the lamb shoulder melted in you mouth. Our server Val was on it the whole night, really fantastic service. Can't recommend this place enough

This is fine dining at its best! Welcoming staff, comforta ble seating with an excellent view of an interesting precinct, pleasant ambience and attentive wait staff. The menu offers a relatively simple selection of utterly delectable dishes. The wine list is of quality wines but also a simplified selection. The servings were generous and the dishes interesting without being fussy or complex. This was a memorable and enjoyable meal, not cheap but worth the cost. I intend to go again and show my visitors the quality that Hobart can provide!

Wonderfully located Harbourside restaurant in the bottom of Hobart’s ugliest building (don’t worry, the views are spectacular and you can’t see the building from inside). Great decor with a warm timber and leather vide, which compliments the acres of windows and views over the Hobart port.
The food was excellent and everything was a joy to eat. We had the ‘feed me’ option which meant we didn’t have to make any decisions - just eat. The white fish skewers and the meatballs were both excellent. Nice simple wine and drinks menu that supported the food. One of our party was vegetarian and they looked after him very well.
Service was a little slow and we had a wait between courses. Not a significant problem and would certainly go back. Nice friendly staff and reasonably priced.
H. L.
Was ok/adequate. There is a lot of hype around it on many "must eat" lists. Just keep your expectations realistic.
Wasn't fantastic, wasn't terrible. Just sort of ok. The potatoes were fried to the point of almost not being potatoes anymore - if you like crunch this is for you, if you want potatoes maybe skip as there was not much potato to them after the cooking process.
Steaks were good but our hanger steak was lukewarm bordering on cold which was disappointing. Not great value for money but it was edible at least.
Croquettes and sauces were good.
We didn't stick around for dessert as the mains were so underwhelming we decided to just give it a miss.
Service was fast and the team seemed very professional - very little mucking around - they all worked with purpose.
J. R.
Both of salads are especially awesome. Refreshing. Steak comeswith Argentina sources. yummy.
S. H.
Lively Argentinian restaurant best suited for groups than a couple’s night out. The flavours are big, with some more unusual cuts of steak (good to see). The hanger steak was tasty but expensive and the chimi churri lacked a little flavour.
The service was always with a smile
K. K.
Food and sauces were good, but our main grill item came out with the snack and smaller plates so it got completely cold by the time we could eat it. They have no sense of how to pace the delivery of the food so you should order items slowly.
F. F.
Bit of a hit and miss when it comes to the dishes. The steak was very sinewy, entree and service was lacklustre. The only saving grace was the chicken dish which was nicely done.
C. H.
Absolutely loved our dinner here, such a gorgeous space and great food. We tried the recommended menu items but the standouts were the seafood dumpling broth and the venison, just beautiful. Lovely meatballs and salad too.
c. s.
We went here for a birthday dinner. As a group of 5 we opted to share between us three veggie dishes and two meat. Everything tasted fantastic, but the veggies really stole the show. Wonderful blend of tastes and textures. The service was quick, polite and friendly as well. Highly recommend for those looking for an upmarket meal while in Hobart.
m. P.
Fabulous food. Small plates of delicious morsels. My husband couldn't believe that cabbage could ever tasted so incredible. Great ambiance. Super friendly staff. Loved every minute.
J. L.
Good environment and delicious food. Wagyu is recommended, juicy and tender. The main doesn’t come with any veggie which needs to be ordered separately. Not cheap - our dinner on average A$140 pp (including drinks though). Other than that everything is satisfactory.
T. S.
One of the best restaurants in Hobart. If I could give 11 out of 10 I would. We had a large group with some fussy eaters as everyone left complimenting the food and outstanding bubbily service. Thank you for making a special family gathering a night we will never forget. We all will be returning many times ahead.
K. D.
The food at Frank was tasty when we went for lunch. There were not many people there on the weekday but the interior is nice and feels comfortable. The waiter was great and gave us a long list of other restaurants to try in Hobart. Would recommend.
S. L.
The service quality was below what the branding suggests. Unpolished and inattentive, the servers only engaged with us when we caught their attention. We were looking for a special dining experience and the server couldn't have been less helpful with recommendations. This restaurant's specialty are the steaks, so we were surprised when the server didn't even mention this and basically said everything is good.
The food tasted fine but the fish skewers were tiny and by no means a suitable main (picture attached - note the size of the lemon) - how could the server not know that and/or make no effort to manage our expectations?
At the end of the meal the server forgot to put in our dessert order. While she apologized and we got it a few minutes later, we then had to track her down to pay the bill, and she explained to us how to leave a tip using the EFTPOS machine. Absolutely embarrassing.
L. C.
Went for sister's birthday in July. Got the chef's menu. It was amazing! Well balanced, and not too much!
J. W.
Fabulous waitresses who made the meal a pleasure before the food even arrived on the table.
My hanger steak and accompanying sauces was delicious, as was my colleague's rice and mole.
We are here in Hobart for 3 nights and could well eat here again. Very highly recommend.
D. C.
For business I have been in Hobart more than two months. I have tried many restaurants, but Frank Restaurant is the best. Great food, lovely service, very welcoming, very good wine selection. The skirt steak is on another level, tender and juicy. Wow. Highly recommended
S. O.
Very friendly helpful staff. Do a nice cocktail that came out really quickly. Nice quirky venue
S. S.
Celebrating Tom's 32nd birthday we had a beautiful meal at Franks and A very good evening .I can't remember being served by 2 such delightful waitresses as we experienced tonight .Both girls are a credit to their boss and also to their profession. Thank you for a great dining experience at Frank Restaurant
J. K.
Delicious food, lovely service and beautiful space! Will be back next time we're in Hobart!
M. P.
Food tastes quite good; bit pricey, though. 300g of beef for AUD70 without even a piece of green for decoration... Lamb shoulder much better.
J. N.
One of the most amazing meals we have had, highly recommended.
O. T.
Absolutely loved our time here. Beautiful grass fed beef was incredible. Lamb shoulder was cooked to perfection. I don’t usually leave comments but had to with this place. Phoebe and the girls were just gorgeous. Incredible customer service.
S. H.
Wonderful! The food was delicious, the ambience was great, staff were fabulous, we thoroughly enjoyed our night here!
S. H.
Good place for meet eater but also they accommodate vegetarians! I've tried the Celeriac steak for the first time and was pretty good!!
P. R.
Ambience and flavour absolutely overflowing at this place! I don't eat steak or much from 'grill' menus, but by the time we ordered half the side dish/starter menu, I'd eaten as much as if I'd had a steak. It's an expensive way to experience the menu, but worth it. Staff were helpful and knowledgeable and sweet. Meatballs and fired potatoes are a must.
C. T.
Interesting Decor, good wait staff that are very attentive and helpful when explaining items on the menu. Highly recommend the steak and the potatoes 👌
G. H.
Good service and friendly staff. Food was tasty and they did try to upsell. My steak was ok...tender but not best steak.
W. N.
We stopped by for a sampling of some Tazzie oysters. We had some oysters natural and also their fired variety. We were impressed with the freshness and creaminess of the oysters. The flavour and fleshiness of the oysters was also superb. We would highly recommend coming here to try some of Tazzies oysters.
V. V.
Good steak 🥩 nice veggies side dish. Atmosphere kind of bar and restaurant. Recommended.
E. J. (. I. C.
Delicious meal and great service! Our two wait staff were attentive and friendly. I'm Ceoliac and they served the wrong pork dish, but corrected instantly when I questioned it. Can't wait to go back!!
B. M.
Food was excellent. Definitely recommend both the Zucchini and Pumpkin dishes. They had just exquisite flavour with a good contrast of textures.
And dessert - do not go past the Chocolate Fondant. Perfection on a plate!
Also shout out to Phoebe - as a restaurant, you could not ask for a better maître d’. Seriously - such a welcoming and warming presence!
The place was super busy the night we were there, and as others have mentioned service was a little slow. But this just meant we got to enjoy the views of the dock a little longer.
All in all an excellent night out and will 100% be back next time I’m in Hobart
T. H.
Awesome food, great vibes, great service and on the wharf. I went here with a couple of friends ordering lamb rump, slow cooked lamb, beef, kingfish and anchovies.
All tasted great with unique flavours and sauces. I also had an awesome waiter - Jacinta who was continuously filling our glasses with water and always attended our table. I would highly recommend here!
R. G.
This is not a vegetarian restaurant - and I'm not a vegetarian. BUT last night we had 3 veggie side dishes between 2 of us and were blown away! 3 was a good amount for 2 people... But I nearly ordered a second serve of the broccolini to enjoy to myself it was that delicious. The food in Hobart has not disappointed! We got there at 9pm on a Sunday and they were able to seat us immediately at the bench facing the the habour. Lovely views, great service, AMAZING food and reasonably priced - great value and cannot recommend highly enough. I'm sad we only discovered it on our last night.
We ordered the broccolini, sweet potato and chickpeas and baked potato. Thinking about it now is making my mouth water.
T. A.
What a delight for lunch today! A well timed service of starters with a crescendo main - perfect pickles - SUPERB meatballs and zucchini (definitely need the fluffy flatbread to savour the dressings) - the lamb and scotch fillet perfectly cooked and so flavouresome and super tender. Look forward to our return. C'mon Tassie - support local - get out to lunch (cos we can) Frank won't disappoint!
N. L.
Good food and wine, brings us back to South America. Service was prompt. The beef and potatoes were amazing. The empanadas could have been better though.
L. O.
As always. Such fabulous food. Wonderful service. Very relaxed atmosphere.
Divine.
M.
It was a lively atmosphere and the food was delicious. It could do better with non-shouting waitress although I think she was just being passionate. There was variety of Argentinian cuisine but I really couldn’t tell because it was standard Australian meat dishes for an untrained tongue
A. L.
Genuinely great food, funky styling and great atmosphere. Staff coordination and table service was fiddly, but no big complaints. Funky toppings make for a great dinner.
C. L.
Solid food, great cocktails.
D. M.
Had dinner here recently. All good was cooked perfectly. Wine was great and staff were helpful with the menu and attentive to details. Also booked at the last minute and got a great seat in what was a busy night at the venue. Thank you
R. R.
Sunday lunch into the afternoon with a good friend, relaxing waterfront view & the food... oh the flavours combined! We chose our meat & shared some plates. My venison I will return for, definitely. The scotch done right. Particularly loved the zucchini with goats curd. Frank also has a bar where you can go for coffee if that's all you want, but really...you'd be missing out. Saving a dessert for my next visit. 🙂 Our wait people were welcoming & attentive without gushing if you know what I mean. Thanks for a lovely afternoon.
J. H.
We couldn't fault the food or the experience. Service was exceptional (thanks Phoebe) both times we visited. She even remembered that e loved the Espresso Martini's! Thanks for taking such good care of us on our holiday. Highly recommend the steak, potatoes and beans.
R. G.
Great food great outlook great staff. Very pleasant meal. Had eye fillet.
T. S.
Always have a great meal here, steaks are always cooked perfectly. Staff are always friendly and provide with excellent service.
C. C.
We had a lovely waitress when we arrived for an early dinner. BUT as it got busier and more wait staff arrived, we felt completely forgotten. Tables who’d come in much later than us were being served and leaving and we were waiting to be asked if we wanted dessert. We had 3 entrees, 1 of which was yum and the others were not great and the meat was delicious. For a bill of almost $300 I would have expected MUCH better service, which also meant we would have had much more to drink and our final dishes....but they don’t seem to be struggling for a crowd so I guess that doesn’t matter.
The main waitress, saved this rating from a 1.
I’ve been here before and would have rated it a 4-5 but I don’t think I’ll be back again.
N. C.
We rang ask they said they were fully booked but we could try walk-in. Got there and the a male host asked if we had a booking, we said no, and he rudely said no, laughed, waved his hand and walked off. We heard it was good so we booked for the next night. Got there and the same guy dismissively told us to go to the front. The other staff were amazing and put us in a good spot as we have a baby. The food was also really good. This place is 5 stars but the host was a 🍆.
W. F.
Amazing food and great service, you feel truly taken care of and the four people in the kitchen tonight did a splendid job. Will be back for sure, five stars.
B. C.
Absolutely fabulous food, hang the expense and go for the top degustation menu, you won't regret it
T. D.
I enjoyed dining here. They did not have vegetarian main menu item, but they asked what we wanted in it. The chefs then proceeded to do tricks with ingredients coming up with a vegetarian dish that was tasty, tonguey and all. This was the best vegetarian meal we have ever had eating out ever in Australia. We went back for the second dinner of same on our 9th night in Tassie.
L. B.
Fantastic meat, get the potatoes and beans for the sides, great selection of beers, not so keen on the pumpkin and pumpkin normally my favorite food. Pricey but would recommend for a special treat! Meat was to die for!
J. A.
Really enjoyed our last minute lunch at Frank. Even though it was relatively quiet as it was a weekday, the food was delish.
The service was even better - lovely Emma looked after us and was so friendly and also super informative about things to do and see in Tasi.
M. F. (.
Excellent food, although most dishes are vastly overpriced. Standout dish was the lamb and beef mole, incredible flavours and great value. When paying the bill, dad and I asked if we could split it, he would pay for the drinks and I would pay for the food, to which the man replied “yeah just gotta tell me how much”... My guy, that’s kind of your job. Not the end of the world, but a little abnormal for a $400+ three person bill. Otherwise the service was excellent. Would return for that mole.
D. S.
Nice food, meat was done perfectly.
A bit dark where we were sitting, couldn't even see what our food was like 😄
The high tables were a bit chunky with their flower pattern making it tough to have sharing plates on the surface, even though this place is made for sharing food.
M. S.
One of the nicest places I have been to in long time. The hanger steak was just amazing. Staff were super friendly and always attentive. Thanks for having me. I will be back.
A. M.
Great waitstaff, very welcoming and accommodating. Food was fantastic. Not a great menu for diners on their own - to get variation, it ends up very pricey!
H. P.
Loved Frank so much on my last visit to Hobart that we went twice this visit - mostly for the Sopaipillas and the Fire-roasted oysters with chorizo, peppers, garlic & ash salsa. Enjoyed this with a carafe of lightly chilled Dr Edge Pinot Noir for a perfect light lunch. A visit to Hobart would not be complete without a visit to this delicious establishment.
K. G.
Great meal and fabulous service, My hubby (who is a cattle farmer) recons this was one of the best steaks he has ever eaten! Big wraps! And I LOVED the waitresses - great banter but efficient and knowledgeable. Thanks Frank!
A. B.
Earl grey gin and Fish croquettes!!! 🤤🤤🤤
R. Z.
Couldn't fault food or service last night. Staff lovely and helpful. Shared the slow cooked lamb shoulder and it was to die for as was the chicken. Loved the beans as a side dish too! Only disappointment is it's not in Melbourne! We will spread the word to our friends in Melbourne and next in Hobart we will return. Thankyou!
G. A.
Nice food, friendly service. Good place for large groups to dine.
D. H.
Very friendly staff, great food. My one year old made a bit of a mess, but it was no problem. We had the slow cooked lamb shoulder and pork belly, plus potatoes plus white fish croquettes, and it was pretty bloody good. Pork belly was excellent and potatoes A1. Nice views onto constitution dock too. Cost about $100. We'll be back.
T. R.
Lovely dinning experience. Great food and service.
H. I.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was good but the wine list does not really cater for a shiraz drinker if you're looking for a decent wine under $100, so we went with a bottle of cabernet sauvignon for $90.
The crooked lights (nouveau architectural style) messed with my OCD that's for sure :)
Overall a very pleasant night.
N. G.
We stumbled across this place at night, it was heaving! We waited about 20 minutes for a spot in the bar, well worth it. Food and wine superb. We loved it so much we came back for lunch! And we’ll be back again and we’ll be telling everyone we know to come here. :)
B. M.
Nice little grill near the waterfront with even more amusing hipster wannabe patrons and staff. You know, the people this little state is synonymous for, people who want to look worldly but have never left their own island. They're very cute and fun to make fun of. The food in this restaurant is really good and the establishment itself is well decorated. And everyone here only had a single head. It was great not hearing the banjo's playing and people being urged to squeal like a pig.
S. R.
Absolutely fantastic food and the most lovely service. Loved it
N. H.
Excellent food with friendly service. Seafood croquettes and fish dumplings for entree to die for, pork belly and lamb rump for mains absolutely superb. Highly recommend.
L. J.
Lovely bustling spot in Hobart’s waterfront. Had a great time working through the plates. Prices were fair, portions generous and of very high quality. Definitely a spot to book a dinner at if in town.
J. F.
Very quick service, delicious food and friendly staff!

WOW. Great steak and sides. We dined on christmas eve. They were full and fitted us in. Service was top notch. Flavours yum. Have the laposta malbec.
V. N.
Excellent food, nice space, service okay. Pumpkin feta salad was outrageously yummy.
F. S.
Many good foods to share. Nice cocktail selection. Plenty of vegetarian options. Market fish was also excellent.
D. B.
We accidently stumbled across Frank during our first time in Hobart. We've come back to Hobart several times since and have visited Frank each time!
The food is amazing, well priced, well presented and delicious. Do not miss the empanadas!
The staff are very friendly and attentive, and it's fun to watch the world go by outside.
The only problem with Frank is that it's not located in my hometown!
A. K.
The best food we had in Hobart, awesome vibe and wonderful friendly staff. Would definitely go again.
Highly recommend the baba ganoush, seafood dumplings and steak.
P. T.
Delicious food, super comfortable environment, cocktails were super tasty.
Highly recommend the peach cocktail
A. K.
excellent restaurant with terrific staff. we brought our baby for any early dinner and the staff were very accommodating. food was terrific, try the white fish.
K. W.
This place is to die for great atmosphere amazing drinks and food. Highly recommended
T. M.
Absolutely delicious food and a beautifully designed space. The staff were accommodating and friendly. I would definitely recommend Frank to visitors and locals of Hobart!
F. S.
So good! Great service. Delicious. The tortilla of the day was amazing! Great vegan selection too.
F. L.
Lovely and friendly service, knowledgeable about the wines. Good atmosphere and great location.
Vegetable side dishes cooked well, good flavours and well priced.
Unfortunately the meat let the whole dining experience down. The various cuts seemed overpriced, particularly when no weight is listed. We ordered a large rump for $53.50, we weren’t asked how we wanted it cooked. It was cooked to a nice medium rare but served in a pool of blood clearly unrested. The condiments served on the same plate sat in the blood from the meat.
Overall a disappointing experience for the premium price. Won’t go back in a hurry.
T. T.
Amazing food and service!! Will definitely come back next time we are in Hobart 😁
B.
My partner and I have been here a few times, sometimes just us, sometimes with others, sometimes for lunch and sometimes for tea. We have never had a wholly bad experience there. Everyone that works there is lovely and there are always nice things on the menu. Because of the kind of restaurant it is you buy a few dishes and share so you end up trying more food than at a normal place which is nice, as if one person doesn't like something generally someone else does. There have been a couple of occasions where the pork belly (which is lovely when it's a good bit) is a bit overcooked and dry. All in all both myself and my partner enjoy ourselves whenever we go here and I would recommend and do, to anyone who is thinking about eating there.
C. G.
Incredible food and great drinks, a good night out
M. W.
So good. Perfect meal and great service. Had an amazing meal 😍
K. R.
Amazing food! Everything we ordered was divine, including the cocktails. They have plenty of options for vegetarian options so that’s really good. My husband ordered steak and he absolutely loved it. Service was outstanding.

Nice food. No fat fryer smell. Good service and open late. A grown up restaurant that's not pretentious. Made me happy.
M. W.
Had the pleasure of eating here for Valentine's Night whilst visiting Hobart. A local friend told me to order the Chefs selection so we did, paired with a bottle of local sparkling white.
Well some 3 hours later we topped off what I consider to be one of my top three dinning experiences after 40 years of traveling. The flavour combinations are to die for and although the portions were small there were so many each with its own wonderfully different taste but the real suprise was the depth of flavor in each dish. We were in heaven. The staff were fantastic and a special shout out to Glenn who helped make this experience the more pleasurable with his attentive style and looking after us so well.
Thank you Frank Restaurant, we cant wait to join you again soon.
M. A.
The food was incredible and the staff and service was excellent. Hghly recommend you eat here when in Hobart!
J. M.
Great food, very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Can't rate it highly enough.
L. l.
Pork belly and tuna tartare were delicious. Great service in a lovely atmosphere. Perfect for a romantic dinner or with friends.
B. B.
Always lovely and consistent, our go to when visiting Hobart, thanks guys 🙌🏻
M. I.
We had an amazing dinner at Frank.
The staff are super helpful, knowledgeable and tentative. The food was absolutely incredible and really thankful of how accommodating the chefs were to my food allergies. One of the best meals and restaurant experienced we have had. I highly recommend if you in Hobart to check this place out.
M. H.
Staff friendly and attentive. We chose the feed me option and it was delicious! We were surprised with different dishes including a dessert throughout the night. All were an amazing mixture of tastes and we ate things we may never have tried if we had chosen our own dishes from the menu. We both left feeling satisfied and thoroughly enjoying the whole experience!!
M. F.
Had a meal here a few days ago was one of the best meals I have had. Service was outstanding all the staff couldn't do enough for us. Have no hesitation in recommending Frank to anyone who goes to Hobart.
We will definitely go back next time in Tasmania.
C. M.
Great foodie experience! Get the taster menu, think it was around $69PP and we got 11 dishes in total which was loads! Everything was tasty and such good value. Glad I spent my only night in Hobart here.
K. H.
Visitors from the Gold Coast and can’t express how much we loved our experience. Our waitress was an absolute gem! Can’t wait to visit again. Thanks so much. X x
A. S.
Delicious food, generous portion sizes. We ordered way too much food and they were happy for us to take-away. Lovely service too. A top notch Argentinian restaurant worth checking out.
H. M.
Great waterfront location. A wonderful place for a romantic dinner or dinner with a group of friends. Booking essential on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. Menu is amazing the chefs choice is a good option and very tasty. Good value for money and lots of options on the drinks menu.
V. S.
Great cocktails, good vibe, and from previous visits I know the food is great. Really lamentable service from waiter, Glenn, from start to finish. Just unnecessarily and detrimentally rude. We perhaps would have stayed for longer (and consumed more) but his conduct left us with a bad taste. Disappointing.
J. S.
Good food but could be so much better! unfortunately let down by the service. When we order a dish with goats curd on the side as suggested by the wait staff we expect it to come that way, not mixed in to the dish. Don't waste your time with the oysters they taste great but are very small, and well done steak seems to be more med rare, when we told the staff of this they apologised but could offer nothing further.
M. O.
I went with a group of 25 for dinner at Frank and had a marvelous time. We had their set menu and the food just kept coming and coming and, well you get the idea. By the end of service there was food leftover. One of our number was vegan and even she had half a dozen tasty dishes brought out for her enjoyment, and not just a single meal.
Considering we were loud and most likely annoying, they were wonderfully attentive, and even rearranged the seating layout on the spot at our somewhat peremptory request.
You guys rock.
M.
Beautiful food. Quite noisy but we did go on a Friday night. Great staff.
E. R.
We dined here for my mum’s 50th in a group of 7. Sam, our server, was incredible! We can’t thank her enough for the amazing service. We got the $59 per head banquet which was perfect for us (more than enough leftovers to take home for lunch the next day!). Would absolutely recommend Frank Restaurant to anyone in Hobart. The margaritas were also wonderful! Thank you to all the staff.
S. I.
Top end restaurant with amazing selection of food. Every item we ordered were absolutely delicious. I took my girlfriend for her birthday and it didn't disappoint. The waiters were knowledgeable and very attentive.
Be drinking good wines or have a full dinner - a must place to go in Hobart.
S. M.
This restaurant is stunning and exceptional in all areas. The staff are welcoming and engaging, the atmosphere is relaxed and cosy and the food is superb. This restaurant must be applauded for creating foods which hold a mix of traditional ideas and modern twists in its food. The highlights were the peppered salsa oysters. If you’re in Hobart, you must come here.
E. C.
Amazing food!!!
Wagyu thin skirt steak is the best!!!!!
J.
Food was terrific however one particular waitress didn’t have the best customer service, the curt haired one of memory serves. Needs better acting skills
K. S.
The food was delicious! Lily, Phoebe and Glen went above and beyond, fantastic service :D
B. B.
This place really took me by surprise, I don’t know what I was expecting but it wasn’t anywhere near as good as what we found. From the minute we walked in the service was flawless, even on a very busy night. The food was outstanding, unique and delicious as well as being in very generous portions (a rare combination). We got the Feed Me option for a group and everybody was SUPER satisfied. These guys don’t blink an eyelid at dietary requirements either, with plenty of options for everyone. A very well stocked bar to help wash down the amazing food and a fun, “ busy” atmosphere. Definitely heading back soon to enjoy more of that menu!

Yum! Yum! Yum! The food here is meant to be shared and it is sensational! The oysters were outstanding. We honestly could not fault anything we ate. The service was exceptional as the staff were friendly and helpful. The decor is funky, colourful and very cool. A relaxed vibe and worth a visit!
S. C.
Second time I've been and both times the food has been excellent! Staff were also friendly and service was excellent. Music a tad loud.
J. F.
This should have been a 5 star review... The food was outstanding - seriously outstanding. Best meal I've had in ages. The environment, wine list and decor was also great. Disappointly, the service did not match the standard. No one smiled. No one engaged in conversation. Sadly, it was "business as usual" and there wasn't a personal touch at all... should have been 5 stars.
l. H. B.
An insanely delicious venue. We had the ‘feed me’ banquet style choice after a recommendation from the waiting staff and was blown away by the flavours presented. Rock solid feed with sharp knowledgeable service. Thank you so much.
T. B.
Meat was amazing, staff were very friendly and the peach and apple pie is one of the best deserts I've ever had.
D. H.
Met friends here to celebrate a birthday. Glad we booked as the place rapidly filled. Service was great - friendly staff who helped with translation of the menu. Food was expensive but great quality and presentation. Everyone enjoyed what they had and that meant we tried 6 different options! Decor is strange and the place does get very noisy which makes things difficult for the hard of hearing - but overall I would recommend it.
a. e.
Friendliest staff. Nice atmosphere and super tasty local quality food.
R. F.
Frank is a great restaurant! Great cocktail and wine list, good for both big groups as well a date night, and tasty small plates. Staff are really friendly, and the location is right by the pier☺️ 🍷
A. R.
Great Argentinian grill for a must visit in Hobart. The food is simply fantastic and the wine list is extensive. The beef variety is good to cater for all needs including rest of the meat variety. The Salmon and the Market fish is just sumptuous. Sharing plates are in great variety for everyones taste buds and yes dont miss the dessert.
P. W.
Big roomy restaurant, busy even on a Thursday. Bookings are recommended. Fantastic grill, although not a massive variety, and not really suited to vegetarians, they very good at what they do. Great small bar, with a range of housemade cocktails, large wine selection, and some interesting things like wine and cocktails on tap! Well priced, drinks can be a little bit costly. Fantastic interior design, good atmosphere, great views.
T. B.
Good food and one of the few places in Hobart that will serve after 9pm ... But the 5 stars are really for the staff who are particularly excellent!
J. C.
Fabulous food, service was great and a nice take on a modern dining environment. Highly recommend!
R. C.
Sophisticated eatery with a laid-back vibe. Attentive, just-right service. Great location on the Hobart waterfront.
k.
Very delicious food, nice atmosphere. A little too expensive but the food is delicious and worth the price.
T. B.
Food was delicious. Good cocktails.
Unfortunately the service let the venue down. We arrived for a table booking at 8pm, and were told to wait at the bar until our table was ready. There was nowhere to sit at the bar and the bartender was busy making drinks for the tables. When we finally were seated 20 mins later, our meals arrived quickly but we were never offered a second drink and water was never refilled. Empty dishes were left crowding the table while new dishes arrived. We had planned to have a bottle of wine for dinner and had to ask the food runner for the wine list, however no one came to take our drink order. We ended up cancelling the preordered apple dessert so we could leave to get better service elsewhere (still came up on the bill however). We would have easily spent 2-3 times as much had we stayed and been served with more attention.
Could have been a much better experience!
M. B.
Great sharing style menu with flavoursome food. The meat was cooked to perfection! Some of the other items seemed a tad overpriced, but I guess you are paying for the location! And if you are a sweet tooth, the desserts are a must!
R. T.
Fantastic food and service. This is definitely a sharing style menu, which I really like as you get to try many different dishes.
Great South American style food, full of flavour and calories ;)
Nice atmosphere, 4 stars.
K. K.
What an awesome place. The food was phenomenal. Order lots of veggies, they have some great selections. We had a large group so we settled for the chef's selection which I highly recommend.
P. G.
The waiting staff were efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. The food was awesome. We had the chefs choice which included plate after plate of meats, vegetables and some seafood. For a special night this works really well.
H. C.
Really cool joint for a fun and casual yet sophisticated and delicious meal. One of there hipper/cooler venues in Hobart - think modern/industrial/chic. Best snap peas I've ever eaten. Really enjoyed the barrel aged 'Old Pal' cocktail.
G. M.
Really great Argentinian inspired steak restaurant. Relatively pricey ($70ish) for a 150gm steak, a side dish and a glass of wine, but overall really worth it. The Wagyu I had was beautifully cooked and the charred veg side dish was really generous and the steak also came with 3 tasty sauces. Nice selectiom of wines by the glass too. Highly recommend for a special meal out.
a. G. V.
It's not argentinian food. An Argeninian barbeque will kill any other bbq you've eaten in your life.
But everything looks good and tasty.
T. L.
Went for a work function which was catered it was our best meal in Tassie. The ceviche was absolutely amazing. I nearly ate the whole plate on our table! The baby chicken was so soft and tender and juicy. I would definitely go again!
J. T.
Food is unreal. One of the best in Hobart.
E. F.
The waitress was lovely. Food was delicious, I loved the lamb shoulder. They even gave us a something special for my partners birthday!
A. D.
A well deserved 5 stars and a breath of fresh air on the Hobart Waterfront.
Great food, great service. There's a huge number of items on the menu which made it feel like we were pigeon holed into ordering the Banquet. That being said, every dish that came out with the Banquet was enjoyable so I wouldn't take any points away for that!
Go there, eat, drink and be merry.
M. L.
Expensive, but tasty restaurant. Unusual tapas style range of foods, including delicious steaks. Food range is superb. As is the wine list. Prompt and friendly service. Often busy, so pre booking is probably worthwhile.
D. M.
Love this place! What yummy foods and great service! Sit at the window and watch the world go by.
K. H.
☆ Food incredibly good ☆ Staff and service however not so good. Drinks whisked off the table before being finished. Waitress pushes through to fill up water and splashing it everywhere unapologetically. Quite rude and abrupt. Dirty napkins too. But the food was so good.
S. B.
Food delicious. Music too loud spoiled the end of year catchup. Asked twice for music to be turned down. Then just gave up. Who is the music for? The staff? To have a round table conversation had to raise voice and get others to repeat stuff. Couldn't even hear the waitess when she was telling us the specials. Won't be going back. What a shame.
M. H.
Could be one of Hobart's top eateries with it's great location and outlook. Has a very nice modern vibe but the food was only just so-so. For a place that specialises in steak mine was very average -- too tough and not flavoursome enough. Wine was great. Service good.
D. S.
Food was amazingly. Perfectly cooked and presented. Had the half chicken between two with two sides and it was more than enough. We'd planned on the full chicken but got advised it would be too much by the extremely accommodating and helpful staff. Would strongly recommend a visit for their incredible food and service.
L. R.
Lovely spot for a cocktail and a light meal. Lovely view, friendly staff, delicious food. We were there too early for the grill which kicks off at 5.30pm so ate from the small plates list and the plates were generous and delicious.
A. S.
Fantastic food, catered to dietary requirements easily and without fuss. Good atmosphere and service.
M. T.
Just superb. Went in without a booking and offered a seat by the bar while waiting about 10 minutes for a table. Excellent and knowledgeable staff, high quality food at a reasonable price. Best meal we had in 2 weeks in Tasmania.
J. N.
This Franks ended my Tasmania trip on such a great note. My partner and I both agree that 1. the service was, albeit slow at first to get us seated, amazing. Our waiter was very attentive to our needs and willingly went through the menu to help us select the food best suited to our taste. He also always checked when we were ready to move onto our next dish, and drinks service was constant despite it being right towards the end of the night.
2. The food was absolutely delicious. We loved almost everything, but suggest you give the empanadas a miss - it was ok tasting but not worth the wasted stomach space. We loved everything else and were disappointed we couldn't finish everything we had ordered because it was absolutely amazing!
3. Ambience in Franks (at the time of our visit) was very low light, gentle ambient music in the background which was relaxing and lovely. Staff weren't too lazy.
Only serious downsize was that staff were a little on seating and finalising the bill - but Frank really did make our trip down to Tasmania. Highly recommend!

Amazing food and comfortable chairs. Orange juice was freshly squeezed, knives cut through roasted potatoes like butter, and beef melted in the mouth. The staff were friendly and the decor was a fairly pleasing and unique blend of industrial, urban and Gothic themes. However there was too much ice in the mojito (3/4 of the glass was ice) making the $19.50 price tag a bit of a rip off, and the noise levels of the bass and the other patrons made it so that I had to shout at the waitress to give my order, and conversation with the person seated across from me was very difficult.
S. I.
The most delicious food i have ever eaten! Perfectly cooked meats of all varieties! Waitress was amazing...they forgot to bring one of our entrees so took $50 off this bill for the inconvenience!
S. D.
Went to Frank last night and had a great meal. All the food was great, the service was fantastic and the one cocktail I had (Pisco Sour) was superb. We had the special dessert, the rice pudding which is not my partner's favourite thing normally but she, and I, both loved it.
We will be back
N. G.
Great for meat and seafood lovers. The veggie sides are also great but probably not suitable as a stand alone meal for vegetarians. Good range of craft beer on tap and has a little bar area for a quick afterwork drink.
t. h.
TL;DR - wouldn't recommend the waygu, the chicken empanadas were very good, lemon squish was made in-house and was fantastic, pricing was expensive for the portions, service was fast and waitresses were on top of things, atmosphere was great with low to moderate noise levels. Decor was pleasant and didn't seem out of place.
I was quite disappointed at poorly "cooked" the waygu flank was. It was rare on the inside, to the point where it seened to only be lightly seared on the outside. The flavour of the waygu flank, where it had been cooked, was amazing. My round up of the waygu flank is, of the parts that were cooked, it was very nice and had amazing flavour, but as most of it was rare, it was more like a chew toy that started with amazing flavour and ended up getting more and more bland as you chewed it. Portion was tiny and the price was quite alot for the serving. I also tried the chicken empanadas, which were amazing. The pastry was flaky but held together when I cut into it. The flavour was also very nice and the spiciness warmed up the mouth.
For a beverage, I had the in-house made lemon squash, which was a pleasant surprise when I first tried it. Props to them for making a good in-house lemon squash. If I was to now define a perfect lemon squash, it would be that. Not too sweet with a perfect balance of the lemon citrus.
The service was also amazing. All the waitresses that night were very tentative and ploite. This also added to the amazing atmosphere and the relative low to moderate noise levels. I had a large group of people, of about 5 to 6, directly behind me, which I could barely hear. I would recommend comng here for a quite dinner. The decor was pleasant and nothing felt out of place.
I would recommend this place if you don't mind spending some money and if you were looking for a fine dining restaurant. Would not recommend the waygu and if you were to have it, I would recommend asking for it to be cooked for a little longer.
曾.
Good service ~ Tasty food!
J. S.
World class food & service. Came here for a work xmas dinner as a group of 12. We had a brilliant waitress who took all our preferences and kept the food coming until we were full. Each dish was amazing. Definitely one for your Hobart foodie tour shortlist!
L. R.
Delicious food with a South American flair. Interesting decor, good service and a comfortable venue for adults. Would not be so good for young children as it is a bit dark and the food tends to be spicy, too.
I. T.
Fantastic venue, staff and food
K. R.
This place is a must visit in Hobart. Absolutely amazing food and flavours. Best steak i have had in a long time. The atmosphere is great and so is the service.
S. A.
Nice food, nice ambiance. A couple of waiters were a little bit hastey and didn't speak clear enough English for us to understand what we were being served but otherwise it was a really enjoyable experience.
N. P.
Fantastic food and the best service! Massive props to the Smolt/Frank crew! After sending around multiple enquiries to Hobart caterers for our intimate elopement, Smolt/Frank won us over with their exceptional customer service! We decided that the Frank menu was more suited to us, but we were a bit hesitant with the minimum required spend as it was more than what we originally wanted to pay. But after our DELICIOUS four course meal we all conceded that it was worth every single cent!!!! The service was phenomenal and the food to die for!!! There was so much left over that we were able to feast on left overs for the next couple of days. Magnificent! Highly recommend the fire roasted oysters, beef and lamb mole and also the salted caramel ice cream YUM!!!!!!
s.
The food is actually good. Salsa Verdi sauce that came with the wagyu was good BUT seriously the food is way overpriced with small portions. There are other options nearby that offer better value for your dollar.
We didn't have much of a choice cause we decided to eat dinner late that night. Their kitchen closes by 11pm.
A. N.
Started with some buttery Argentinian Chardonnay which was yummy! The Ceviche and Quail were equally as excellent. Lamb rump was amazing! Sent home with the choc hazelnut brownie! Must visit! Impeccable service!
L. B.
Good food. Nice ambience.
N. C.
Absolutely fantastic place.
The food was delicious, we had the venison and half chicken and fish of the day. It was all good. The venison was particularly nice.
The place is kids friendly and decor is classy Cinco de Mayo.
W. D.
Food was great but the atmosphere was slightly strange. Very loud music throughout the night to a point where quite conversation was not possible. A good place for a group of friends or a party of people but I wouldn't go for a date night
D. F.
So glad with our dining experience. The meals was timely, cooked superbly and very filling. Ambiance was calming yet colorful and The personnelPeople were so lovely and accomodating.
R. G.
Frank, my man. What a place to be famished. My wallet didn't appreciate it but my appetite for a cheeky cocktail and amazing steak sure did. This is a staple in Hobart dining. Banter happy staff, delish sharable food and beverages to quench any hard earn thirsts. If you can open a door, then you'll like this place.
M. M.
Amazing Argentinian cuisine. Absolutely loved everything we ordered;quail, lamb, ceviche, fennel pomegranate salad. Service was very good. Would highly recommend.
A. B.
Fantastic meal, great service
D. A.
Delicious, comfortable, delicious, fascinating decor, delicious, lovely staff. Did I mention it was outlandishly delicious?
Also try the pisco espresso martini, you really should we ended up having a second round of the they made us so happy
J. C.
Ambience interesting and pleasantly relaxed and casual.
Staff attentive and very helpful as well being polite.
Cuisine superb probably one of the best steaks I have had for some time.
S. S.
Got a late table on a busy night. Food was delicious, decent wine list. Service friendly and efficient. Best playlist on the stereo. Will be back next time I'm in Hobart.
K. B.
Delicious food, great cocktails and wonderful service!
J. S.
Creative tapas menu with a cool atmosphere and solid South American heavy wine list.
Service was a bit sluggish and the wine glass pours were a bit on the shorter end. Other than that, good experience.
A. L.
Great degustation/sharing menu for a large group with wonderful char grilled meats and vegetarian options. Wine list also terrific and ambience perfect for dinner; service could be a little more attentive, but not a massive issue.
L. G.
Fantastic, food is wonderful as is the atmosphere and the gentleman waiting on us was absolutely delightful and knowledgeable about all items on the menu. Will definately be back.
A. M.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Food is a nice mix of south american but with Tassie produce. Really recommend the hangar steak and roasted veg dishes. Not a massive fan of the ceviche.
A. M.
Really good quality food. Had the set menu for 4 people (no dessert)
Y. X. C.
Went during off peak hours (late afternoon), and though kitchen was still open, and there wasn’t a crowd, the service was slow (waited 25 minutes for the food).
Overall pleasant ambience and had food which excites the taste buds. Giving 4*.
J. V.
Food was pretty average, maybe we just got unlucky. Nice ambient vibe and nice service.
C. H.
We went with the chef's selection ($55/head), they asked if there was anything we didn't like or were allergic to, then started bringing the food out. It all comes out on individual plates and you grab what you want to eat. I was a bit disappointed with the 'charred' vegetables, as they were a bit too charred for my liking. Other than that, the meat and starters were rather tasty.
The venue itself feels like a restaurant in central NY, you then look out the window and you're sitting on the warf in Salamanca (which is a sight in itself).
I've taken a star off (partly our fault) because we left it late to book, and were told we had to be done by 7, meaning the whole experience felt a bit rushed.
Hoping to make it back at some point to spend a bit more time taking it all in. I did like the overall experience of sharing the food with the others I went with.
R. S.
A nice restaurant with a clear aesthetic and simple menu. Portion sizes are small due to quality of the ingredients. All things considered, a great place to eat out for a nice night.
D.
Great food matched with friendly and very attentive service. Highly recommended!
E. C.
Beautiful food and drink, loved the thin skirt chimichurri and the cocktails.
C. V.
Great Argentinian steaks. I don't usually eat fresh oysters but they were magnificat. Highly recommended. Frank's is in a great location as well.
M. W.
Brilliant food and service. Able to meet all our dietary requirements. Great spot to celebrate New Year's Eve with friends.
M. G.
Great ambience and the food is exceptional, a must do when in Hobart
V. T.
Since it was a share style meal had doubts but it was really really good and the service was spot on.
Definitely would recommend Frank and go there many more times.
C. A.
Frank is trying desperately to be something that it's not, all the while letting the Tasmanian team down. Average food - some dishes better than others, but management of service is appalling. Empty glasses, new dishes stacked next to empty ones, empty plates transferred to the adjacent table left unnoticed, and staff seem to expect no tip. I should have never left the pub!
S. C.
Great experience with the feed me option.
B. B.
Pretty good venue. Well fitted out, dark and moody. Service was great. Food came out a little too quickly but was pretty good. Not amazing but a really great overall experience and good value.
H. R.
We went in with 4 adults, a 3 year old and a 4 month old without a booking. At first we thought we might feel unwelcome, but it was the complete opposite. So friendly and accommodating. Food and drink was great too.
S. K.
First time having Argentinian food for my partner and I and we absolutely loved it.
Favourite dish was the ceviche and quail.
Will definitely be going back.
A. B.
We had an absolutely delightful dinner at Frank. The flavours were amazing and the staff lovely. Would sincerely recommend the salmon and the wagyu.
L. P.
Always incredible from start to finish! Amazing, helpful, charming staff make the fabulous food even better. Love the degustation menu. Always too much food and always different and exceptional!
M. G.
Great food, not bad service. The steak is a MUST. Wonderful atmosphere if you like the lights down dim, not too loud environment either.
a. b.
Absolutely lovely waitress served us last night. Super smiley, super friendly, very knowledgeable... great food and space.
F. L.
Great food. Try the Tuna Tartare. Not too crowded. No booking required.
C. F.
Lovely restaurant, great views, sunny, always plenty of room in the daytime. Superb staff, nice tapas style food, lots of options for vegetarians and good drinks. A great place for lunch!
S. M.
My wife and I had dinner here for the first time last night. I had the pork belly and she had the hanger steak. We both agreed that it was the best pork belly and steak we had ever eaten.
J. A.
We just had an amazing meal at Frank. Food, service and cocktails was fantastic. Can't wait to go back.
A. N.
Recommend to get some of their grilled steaks. We had the wagyu and it was tender and juicy. Dishes are designed to be shared.
R. K.
Some of the best food I've had in my life, and great staff and atmosphere. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves food.
W. R.
Awesome shared meal between friends and family. One of the best restaurants in Hobart.

Great food, great staff, great wine recommendations. Best dining experience in Hobart in my opinion. The oysters are the best!
H. G.
Great food and ambience. Meat was perfectly cooked. Will definitely return when we’re in Hobart.
M. S.
Beautiful food, classy but hearty. It's a bit noisy ambience-wise so arvo drinks with friends plus early dining probably ideal
D. W.
Holy bbq smokes! The food was deeeeeelicious. Suggest the feed me option, service was impeccable (#glenyoudabestman), wine was fine. Everyone was giddy and left merry. Great night, highly recommend
A. Z.
Absolutely brilliant food and smart wine pairings on the Hobart's waterfront. Great place for both drinks and celebratory dinners.
K. B.
Crowded and somewhat loud. Nice dishes. We went without a reservation, but the staff assisted us in finding a space. Quite quick service considering that the place was filled.
S. M.
This restaurant is amazing, the food is great, the steak was perfectly cooked, the salad was fresh, vegetables were nice & cunchy, the atmosphere is great...will definitely be coming back here next time I am in Tassie
E. W.
We were recommended to eat here by our hotel staff at Henry Jones, it certainly didn’t disappoint. All our meals that we ordered were delicious and the service was fantastic.
S. B.
Absolutely adore this place! The staff are amazing, the food is delightful. Nothing is too hard for them. The decor and atmosphere is wonderful.
A. S.
Relaxed tapas with friendly knowledgeable staff. We shared some small plates and had the black eyed pea salad. Well worth a visit
A. J.
Great food, dessert not so exciting. Service excellent with most staff, not so excellent with some. We'll definitely be back though.
C. S.
Good atmosphere would recommend going in a larger group to get a bigger selection of the meat cuts. Some very nice Argentinean wines
J. B.
A party of eight of us thoroughly enjoyed the degustation menu. Absolutely recommend this restaurant.

N. H.
The food was superb, full of flavour! The service was exceptional and the location was perfect. What more could you want?
M. S.
Difficult to know pricing as it is shared plates and we had to keep asking how much a selection would cost. Amazing staff, wine and food though.
J. M.
Dark and moody with some great dishes. I recommend the burnt carrots and the flat iron steak. Been neglected by wait staff on more than one occasion.
R. B.
Great atmosphere, delicious food shared with great company. Would recommend, hope to come back next time i'm in Hobart.
B. C.
Nice Decor and reasonable prices. Food very good but not great. Good place for a group of hungry diners.

The lunch menu was a bit limited despite the exotic interiors. Small portion with large price tags. Staff were friendly and helpful. A bit lacking in flavours.
O. F.
Great food & atmosphere. Best service! Staff are super friendly!!

Excellent food, great service, really reasonable "feed me" option. Everyone in my group was raving about the lamb.

R. R.
Excellent service and delicious meats and salads. Definitely will be back when I'm next in Hobart.

Great cuts but at somewhat exorbitant prices. Very poorly lit, great for mood lighting but detracts from reading menu or seeing your friends around the table.
T. R.
Great space - wonderful menu - impeccable service!

First class Argentine food. It is pricey, but every dish was delish.
J. P.
All 6 of us had an excellent meal and the service was brilliant!
K. W.
Delightful, but not SUPER delightful as one may expect. Probably because I'm not that much of a seafood fan, murder something red blooded and present it to me and I'll give you all the stars.
F.

Frank is trying desperately to be something that it's not, all the while letting the Tasmanian team down. Average food - some dishes better than others, but management of service is appalling. Empty glasses, new dishes stacked next to …

Trendy more expensive than we thought. Music a bit loud (is there anywhere that has decent unobtrusive music).

Fantastic food but the A/C was too cold and the background music too loud to have a conversation.
