Such a cool experience! The location is really nice! Not right in the heart of town but close enough! Plenty of parking that’s also cheaper than the rest of Salamanca! The food was delicious and tasted really fresh and good quality! The presentation and the venues looks where awesome! Absolutely loved it here! Will be returning at some stage!

surprised to find this quality Japanese food in Tasmania. Restaurant has a good vibe, food was delivered from the kitchen to the tables by a conveyor belt. The salmon and king fish sashimi were very fresh. The sauces were well flavoured and balanced with the fish.

The greatest Japanese restaurant I have ever been to in Hobart. All of the food here are delicious even deserts. Sake pudding recommended forever. Volcano sushi saigo!!!

Housed in a historic and heritage listed Hobart building, is simple yet elegantly decorated though I found it too dark inside. To start with the restaurant lives up to Japanese reputation of being tech & efficient. Every table is equipped with an ipad allowing you to order real-time, which is fed to the Kitchen. Also every table has a passing train line which brings your ordered food on a high-speed rail onto ur table. The food you order will invariable stop at your table and never at no one else's. My 8yr old was super impressed with this and even his Dad was 😊 Food was smart, decent and subtly flavoured and delicious. I felt menu choices a bit limited and overpowered with sashimi/ngiri/sushi style dishes. Would love to see a bit more addition and variation in menu. Will I come here for food again? May be not but definitely worth a try if you are in Hobart.

Really good quality produce where you can taste the freshness of the fish and chicken. The chicken karaage was very good. Wish the selection of sushi had been more extensive such as having more roll offerings (e.g. California rolls) or eel dishes (the only eel option had cheese? found that a bit weird) otherwise everything we ordered tasted amazing and it followed CoViD safe procedures extremely well.

🌟 6th star 😂 I can easily recommend this place to anyone. Excellent quality food unique dining experience, cosy atmosphere and friendly staff. My family are usually very picky esp when it comes to the expense of eating out in a restaurant. But they were so impressed they never thought of the cost or hesitated to order more food. Very enjoyable experience for all of us. Everyone was talking about what they will be trying when they go back again as we left. Note this place isn't that expensive, some items are but the quality easily makes up for it.

What a delight, top quality, super fresh sushi and sashimi. A touch more expensive than some of the other Japanese restaurant's around Hobart, but the love and attention to detail on the night I went was easy to see. My three year old baby girl ate en entire mixed Sashimi platter by herself and still got stuck into most other dishes. The Tablet ordering system is easy and dishes came out reasonably quickly. I'll be going back for sure.

We had our anniversary and birthday dinner at Kosaten. The experience was so cool, with our orders coming straight out of the kitchen on a conveyor belt. We ordered so many different dishes and they all blew us away. Each one was unique and sooo yummy! We will definitely be going back and recommend it strongly for anyone who likes great Japanese food and a cool dinner experience.

Absolutely beautiful food, the Scallop and crab sushi and spicy tuna were a stand out. The crispy chicken and edamame were popular with our 9 and 11 yr olds. The little bullet train was fabulous and great for a Sunday lunch

It was good but nothing amazing to write home about. Maybe a little bit more customer service will help like when someone come in , please do greet them.. cause some customer are not regular so they don’t know how everything works. They could at least tell me to use the tablet to order not that just tell me where I can sit and just walk away that’s fantastic customer service right there.Also they only serve sushi so it’s only good for snack, you have to spend more to get full but the food was good.

Kosaten is surprisingly good. Well, it's not surprising when you actually walk into the place. It's more just stunning that this place isn't necessarily familiar to locals. It's kind of tucked away out to the side of Salamanca and there isn't much walking traffic here. Anyway, it's a brilliant environment. The one service member was mediocre, but fortunately we were able to order through the cool digital ordering system on our table. All of the food was delicious. It's not cheap, however. You are paying quite a premium here, but the quality matches the price.

The best Japanese restaurant in Hobart. We come here regularly. Today we tried the takeaway bentos, and it was amazing. Yummy 😋 Above all the service was great. The order was few mins late, which I didn’t mind, but they were apologetic and offered a free sushi. This is called customer service! Wow moment!

One of the best venues in Hobart. Amazing food, great drink selection, and I cannot fault the service. The staff are fantastic which reflects the vision of the operators. It's a regular go too for me. Check it out, but probably best to book as it is often at capacity for good reason.

Amazing Japanese food located in a central location of Salamanca! Went with vegetarians and they had plenty of options and even suggested the place. Of course lots of freshly made sushi and some yummy sushimi. The little train is a bit of fun too! If I lived near by I would go back for sure!

Was introduced to this fantastic restaurant by friends...have been back twice since. Order food on iPad - easy and quick. Press the “call” button if you have any questions re: ingredients etc. Food is flavoursome and very fresh. Fantastic gluten free menu as well. Well worth trying. The ordering system was fun! Fantastic, as I don't like Japanese food "or thought I didn't" now can't wait to go back. Great way to have a long lazy lunch, as you can order at any time during the meal as share plates. We had the Ebi fried prawns, tempura veg, Japanese fried chicken, yummy, potato salad and vanilla ice cream with chocolate spring roll, could not fault a thing, sorry no photos, to busy enjoying it all.. You order each course as you are ready..

Absolutely loved a few different dishes such as tempura oysters and eel, camembert cucumber sushi, However overall it was a little bit expensive, there were only two or three substantial dishes, the lamb and the chicken, the rest was 4-10$ sharing plates, Would have liked to see ramen or a few bigger dishes, after $30 a person we were still pretty hungry. However the novelty of the train and the quality of the food keeps this review at 5 stars, just... 4.5 would be more appropriate but they get the benefit of the doubt!

This is a "train sushi" chain which is modelled after major sushi chains such as Genki Sushi. You order the dishes on an iPad at your table, and in minutes, a dish will be delivered from the kitchen right to your table via a miniature "train" next to your booth. This is the difference from a conveyor style sushi restaurant. The food is generally okay but pretty steep in prices, especially for a small serve of sushi but I guess you pay for the novelty and the atmosphere. Service is friendly and has a cozy romantic ambience within. I'd recommend this place.

3rd best thing here is the volcano roll. It's amazing. 2nd best thing here is press a button on the iPad and beer is delivered directly to your table on a rapid response sushi train. Best thing is press the Call Waitstaff button and the friendly staff come bounding to your table with a smile to get you anything else you need. Awesome place!

To top off the experience, and to the absolute amazement of new patrons, the food is all served by robotic trans! This is the best Japanese place in hobart. We went in Friday night without reservation and was seated in a bar table loved sitting side by side first of all, easier to share. Love ordering from an iPad The trains are very cool and mess free. We had aburi salmon and beef it was amazing. We also had special pork which was also very good. It's nice but ridiculously overpriced. The ordering system is cool, same sort of thing as you'll find in Japan or HK, but it doesn't justify the price. $4.50 for 2 pieces of tuna nigiri? $5.00 for 2 aburi salmon rolls? Also, my salmon rolls were not tightly rolled and also stuck to the plates, so broke apart. Funny how fresh seafood is so expensive on an island surrounded by the ocean and Tasmanian salmon.

Expensive, very expensive, but it has an interesting gimmick with the little train that delivers food and the pink-based colour scheme is modern and fresh. As a tip I wouldn't recommend the table just behind the front-of-house desk as they have to cater to the reservation rooms and they can be slow to dismissing the train that delivers food and beverages for that room (the train beeps incessantly until you dismiss it and it can be quite irritating when you are unable to dismiss it). Food was delicious but customer service could do with a bump up. Overall a good venue to go to in you're after something a little different and japanese-y.

Look, it wasn't too bad (and the largest, juiciest prawns I've ever had in slowbart anywhere, to be suprisingly fair) but the rest was very over priced considering it comes out on a train which is just a blank, trainless moving platform. It cost 150 for 3 people to eat there and just have 2 small sushi dishes and a drink each, which wasn't overly filling given the price. I mean it was okay. But strongly priced given that 2 people would pay 50-60 bucks to eat at sush track or the sushi train place in the Elizabeth mall (that used to be the national geographic store) and gives the same or better quality food for less than half the price.

Smart & smooth system. It’s more expensive than a sushi train but it’s worth it. Sushi served fresh & I could see the delicacy in the dishes. Also please reward yourself a bottle of yuzu sake, star of the night.

My friend and I went there tonight（cos it‘s one of the few restaurants that’s still open on public holiday🤷‍♀️）. The food was nice. But the two waitresses who was on shift during 5:00-6:30 were ridiculous！ We ordered the dessert and asked for another spoon cos we were going to share it. This was a simple enough request u know. They never gave me what I was asking for… They came three times. The first time they gave me an empty plate（which I have absoutely no idea why🤷‍♀️）. The second time we rang the bell again and repeated ourselves again. At last they came back the third time and u know what，they have me a huge tea spoon instead of the dessert spoon I asked for…. And those two they didn‘t talked to customers at all. Like even when they have water they just put it there and left. I understand it’s not a fine dining and I‘m not really expecting that level of service，but this is ridiculous. Anyway，again，the food was nice. But becuase of the attitude of those staff，I wont go again.
