Fantastic dining experience with authentic food and generous servings. Plenty of seating available but bookings recommended for weekend. Beer on tap selection is pretty good, and service is friendly and efficient. Only had the chicken satay (yum!) and beer. Will come back again to try their mains next time.

Mr. Good Guy knows what he does best: Asian kitchen
S42°53.177' E147°19.536' In the new Ibis Styles Hobart hotel at Macquarie St., a large area open space on the ground floor has been converted into a bar and dining area with open kitchen. It is not a romantic place, but the interior designers have done their best to create a more intimate place.
The Lonely Planet speaks highly of the food in this must-visit restaurant. In February 2020, we ordered the pescatarian banquet ($45) with salmon entrée, Thai fish cake, spring rolls, salmon and massaman curry with rice. In general, the dishes were well presented and tasted good. We loved the salmon entrée and spring rolls. Excellent. Thai fish cakes were delicious. The massaman curry could not compete with the other dishes in flavour, but the delicious rise compensated for this. We concluded our dinner with jasmine tea.
Our waitress, Sarah, gave good advice on dishes without meat products and the service went smoothly.
We enjoyed the fine Asian dishes of Mr. Good Guy. Recommended.

Amazing food. Probably the most authentic laksa to be had in Hobart. Aesthetically pleasing (food and environment). I ate before I could take a photo of my food but was well worth the money. I think the prices are quite reasonable. The ales were good as well. The staff are very lovely and good to chat to and are good with recommendations as well. Am planning on going back! I recommend for individuals, couples and large groups.

I am sure this will become 'a must eat here' for modern Asian food in Hobart. Located to the side of the Iris Styles Hobart property - it is a large, airy, spacious and colourful eating space serving a great take on Asian cuisine. There are 'small' or 'large' choices from the extensive menu. Couple that with a bar set at the front of the premises ... Think this will be a drink-after-work spot for many working in that part of the city. Can't wait for the alley-way come summer. The prospect of al fresco dining there appeals

While staying at the ibis hotel, this place was very convenient. The Hainan chicken though was not up to par with what you find in Singapore. The chicken lacked flavor and was probably not cooked with the rice as expected. The side soup was a nice touch on a cold Hobart day and had a Vietnamese-like taste.

It is my second time here and I ordered the crispy pork with lychee and the seared wagyu. The beef is so tender and every bite is like a fusion of flavour in my mouth. The ribs and lychee is a perfect combination, my colleagues also loved the crispy eggplant and the curry vegetable which really looks good, something that I will try in the future. Thanks to Andrew for his hospitality and good customer service. I will definitely come back here as they have proven that they can serve quality food. If you want something different try this restaurant and for sure you will enjoy the Asian fusion.

Great selection of assorted fresh Asian cuisine with open kitchen straight to the table. Had the chefs buffet as part of a group of 8 and we certainly left feeling satisfied. Well staffed and great open plan spacious fitout. Certainly a breath of fresh air just what Hobart needed.
B. W.
Banquet was great (wish it included the bao buns though), friendly service, not too expensive overall.
S. R.
Cool decor. Good food. You can even have drinks here. And it's open late. Welcome to Hobart!
J. M.
Food is always nice, staff are friendly. Nice place to get out of the cold and have some drinks too

FANTASTIC food! 6 of us had the $45 banquet. Very delicious. Food was cooked beautifully and timed to come out perfectly. Wasn't too noisy, we could all speak and hear each other comfortably. The only let down for us was the drinks service. 10 minute waits each time we ordered... and only for beers and wines, no cocktails or anything time consuming. Will be back for the food.
T. H.
Magnificent food, good atmosphere. Service was a touch slow, but also we weren't rushed...
B. C.
Great place to visit. Excellent atmosphere, Great service, a huge variety of different Asian meals.
A. G.
Great service, beautiful food and funky decor and can't wait to visit again!

Seriously loved this restaurant! Really great ambience and delicious Asian-inspired food.

It's hard not to compare Mr. Good Guy to Susie Luck's in Salamanca - they are very similar culinary styles. On our visit, I'm afraid to say we were not blown away as we were at 'Lucks. One of our waitresses was a little flat and mumbled. The food of course is the main event - we ordered one of the banquets but were served grilled chicken as opposed to squid. We weren't informed of this prior, but the staff were apologetic. The lamb ribs we had were breath-taking, some of the best I've ever had. Tea-smoked chicken was beautiful, as was the red curry. The grilled chicken replacement was underwhelming which added injury to insult. I really liked the decor, very funky and fun, but the music really started to grate after a while - such a strange mix of tunes. I would recommend someone to head here for ribs, but improvements need to be made elsewhere before we return for much else.

Had the $55 trust Mr good guy banquet and was disappointed with the amount/style and the quality of the food. We didn't really enjoy any of the dishes. We were hoping it would be superior to the known $45 banquet but on perusal of other plates it would have been the far better choice. I trusted Mr good guy knew me and well it just didn't work. No desserts either.

Mr Good Guy is located within the Ibis Styles Hotel. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The buffet breakfast is good value for money at $20. The breakfast has all the basics such as eggs, bacon, sausages, tomatoes, mushrooms, cereals and fruit. The coffee from the self serve coffee machine is not nice.
For dinner the restaurant offers Asian cuisine. I particularly like the fried Pandan custard for dessert. Something different and not a dish I've seen offered elsewhere.
Overall we liked the restaurant although I found from our visits, sometimes they may be understaffed. However, the staff were friendly despite being very busy.

Excellent, laid back atmosphere. We had a group of 7 and decided to try the chef's banquet. Each dish was unique and tasty, and came out at good times. Servings were spot on for size. The waiting staff were great, down to earth and flexible with dietary requirements of the group. Drinks never took too long to come out and the selection of beers on tap is good. The restaurant is excellently themed and extremely spacious which is a refreshing change for Hobart. When you're finished with your meal, you can retreat to the bar which has comfy surrounding lounges.

Damn good vegan options. 2 of us ate for under $40 combined. Couldn't fault the food at all. A few disgruntled tables around us didn't seem very used to having delayed dishes come out separately as an actual dining experience, but it is Hobart. Will definitely be returning once excitement of opening settles down. Good luck and best wishes to the restaurant!

Really great atmosphere, all the staff were pleasant. A waiter by the name of Jacob was so exceptional and polite that we would come back here for his customer service alone. Besides the service, food was amazing.

Celebrating my lovely wife's birthday. Good amotsphere, nice food and good service with reasonable price.
Perfect place to dine with your dearest.
Have been talked to chef Charles. A funny guy with full of passion of food. And thanks Cassey and Jordan, good recommendation for drinks, match the meal perfectly.
W. L.
Excellent food, interesting vibe, beautiful space. Way understaffed in kitchen and front of house. Took ages to get served. Sat down at 7:40 PM and still waiting for one of the dishes at nearly 9:00 PM. Food was worth waiting for, but we would have ordered more dishes if they were coming out faster. Waited at the till for nearly 10 minutes to pay.
H. L.
The food was absolutely amazing, pros...open till 10pm, service fast and delicious Asian fusion food, cons...a little bit quiet, maybe a tiny bit more expensive than what expected but won't break your bank balance like other fancy places in Hobart. The banana steamed cake needs to be mentioned... Amazing Well worth going!

Lovely atmosphere and service provided today was great. However I am a bit disappointed with the flavours of certain dishes and the price i paid for them. NOTE: Was starving and hence i did not take a picture of the Nasi lemak or crispy pork belly bao.
While mum and I thought the nasi lemak and roti bread dishes were "so so", we both enjoyed the crispy pork belly bao and would highly recommend it.
I can't quite comment on the nasi lemak; as not being a beef eater the beef rendang was substituted for extra fried chicken and a deep fried lamb rib. The dish felt dry despite the sambal served with it. Perhaps it may have tasted better as its original dish.
Roti bread with vegetable curry sauce was not my favourite either. Guess they did call the curry a sauce and hence there was no vegetables in it. Curry was too sweet for my liking.
Perhaps, being a Malaysian, I might be a little bias with my review of the nasi lemak and roti dishes.
Not sure if i will be back based on the pricing and flavours of the two dishes today....BUT... I might be back for the baos. :)

Excellent service and tasty food. I really appreciate that they have a special menu to help anyone with common diatary requirements (vegan, gluten free, etc) navigate the menu and find what is safe. There seems to be many options for people with allergies and plenty of vegan options. Really enjoyable atmosphere.
K. P.
Food was great, staff were friendly but not very knowledgeable about food. Some mistakes were made, but promptly fixed with an apology. Slow service made the overall experience average, id give it another go based purely on the food.
P. T.
Reasonable service and good Asian food. Fully licensed

This place was honestly amazing. All dishes were really good, except for the Wagyu. Since we did not enjoy it, they willingly took the plate back and got us something that we enjoyed. Everything was really good except for the Wagyu. I had some chilli and the waitress brought out a glass of milk for me. Overall loved it.

The real rating was 4.5, however Google only allows for 1 star increments and 4 stars would be doing wrong by the restaurant. The majority of the food was incredible. We ate the pork bun, steamed vegetables, pork shulder, crispy egg plant, seared salmon in soup and the Wagyu beef. The food was good, impressive even, as the meals came out in street food fassion, our expectations for the next grew, this ended with the wagyu beef. The Wagyu beef is what let the restaurant down, as it was cold, and lacked the intrinsic melt in your mouth experience of Wagyu beef. However, this was handled amazingly by the professional and extremely friendly staff. My brother decided to put siracha all over his rice and was handling the spice poorly, the friendly staff brought him milk and helped out even though it was a result of his own stupidity. Overall the trendy interior decor, creative details like parachute man chopstick holders, great food and fast service from friendly staff catered to an extremely pleasant meal.

Great spot for lunch, or even a dinner for 20. Staff and kitchen are very accommodating to allergies.

I will be recommending this wonderful place too everyone .The décor of the Restaurant is just lovely , The Staff are so friendly and welcoming and the food is nothing more then 5 stars amazing . My husband and my self had the chefs choice banquet and it was a bit of fun not knowing what you where going to get to eat next and with every dish out standing food. We went for Date night and will be going back for sure

Firstly, food was fabulous. I just read a review below - please don't go to an Asian restaurant for $8 potato gems. They are clearly a "side dish" and if you can't afford the good stuff then head to Macca's until you can really enjoy this place properly.
So my partner and I got a few share plates, main was the Whole Chicken large share plate and it was just perfect. We loved everything we had. We love our cider and beer so we didn't get much variety or choice BUT we did watch some cocktails being made at the bar over a few hours and have to say the quality and liquor knowledge was fabulous and appreciated.
Now the venue. As someone who is a die-hard for fitouts and design I can see why this is pleasing to the eye to most people. But they are kind and forgiving. I am not.
The front end definently got the fat end of the budget, the back end of the restaurant is wasted and the very far end looks like a "kids corner"... maybe it is - I don't know. Get rid of those ridiculous pots and fake flowers. Those crate boxes at the back need to go in the skip, and the traditional Asian looking pottery and fans are a train wreck. Play cricket with them and then throw them out. Clearly a lot of money has been put into the design and the FFE replicas are expensive and well picked out so don't ruin it by sprinkling junk everywhere. Get a someone with commercial decore experience to come help you out. It could be amazing!
Closing note, the food was amazing!

Drinks were good, we were a bit disappointed with our food, we tried the bao. Meat seemed low quality very fatty and chewy. Bao itself was really thicker than other bao I tried the flavour was nice, but was bit heavy.

Late night opportunity for a quality feed in Hobart. Places like this are becoming more common, and the luxury of choice knowing you will get great food and service after 9pm in the city at multiple venues is a real bonus. Add this one to that list.
J. L.
Excellent customer service! Great food! Awesome interior design, it will make you feel you are in Asia. We will definitely come back. Keep up the good work!

Friendly staff and tasty food. Food is south Asian, though toned down to Australian tastes. Would certainly go back again.

The food was fantastic and tasty, good sizes to share plates rather than buy a plate of your own. Smaller portions and cheaper prices for this reason

Great venue with a fun atmosphere - it's a pretty blatant rip off of Melbourne's Chin Chin but that's not a bad thing
