Comments of Tandoor & Curry House
G. K.
This place serves the most delicious Indian food you in Australia. The Makkhan chicken was made with chicken marinated with tandoori spices cooked to perfection and then tossed in a mellow sweet spicy tomato base. The dal tadka was spectacular and reminded of my mother’s cooking. The garlic naan were the best we ever had, fluffy and crispy at the same time. This dishes are well priced and the staff is very humble.
Compliments to the chef for such amazing flavours. We will definitely be returning.
P. S.
We discovered this Indian restaurant on our first visit to Tassie in 2014 and make sure we eat here every time we return (three times). This is on par with the best Indian food we have ever had.
S. M.
Fully recommend! We didnt have a booking but was able to be seated, beautiful curries and the lamb and beef very tender. Nice atmosphere. Very popular. If you like a good curry then we recommend
T. R.
Some of the best Indian I’ve had in years…. Lamb korma I’d say could be the best I’ve ever had. Garlic naan was perfect! Rice is fragrant with no “bombs”. Will be back!

Incredible food and great service. This is our go to fir Indian food in Hobart. One of the best outside India. The shahi paneer and paratha combination is particularly to die for
A. S.
Friendly service with authentic cuisine. Lamb cutlets were tasty and tender. The Naan bread was well done and rounded up the dhal curry and palak panir really well. The restaurant provided a cosy atmosphere and was the perfect setting for catching up with old friends.
S. E.
Absolutely amazing curry here. Busy cosy place. Friendly staff. They have been around for a long time. Food took awhile to arrive but damn was the curry and naan worth the wait. We had the Makhan Chicken and Palak Gosht.
M. R.
We have been in this restaurant for more than handful of times and had a good experience. Food is great however, the one of the waitress treated us poorly. As we asked for a table for three upstairs but she told that section is closed and two minutes later some native Tasmanians walked and all of a sudden the upstairs area is open for them. We felt offended as we were treated poorly. When asked for an explanation, the lady had furious attitude and sounded rude. Lady has a glasses on.
R. C.
Great service., Authentic flavours. Dal is typically dhaba flavour. Great to see that they accommodate children. Attend few birthday parties. Good size bar downstairs.

If you want to taste real Indian food do visit this place.
What I like most about this restaurant is their soft spoken staff doing quick service.
Positive environment with cleanness.
Highly recommend for Indian food lovers. Try Dal Makhni, Butter chicken and Naan (Bread).
j.
Great and quick service, delicious curry, absolutely no complaints to be made. Thanks for the hospitality
G.
Really good tasty food, friendly and helpful staff, the restaurant floorspace is also big, so its usually not too hard to get a walk in if you are early which is great for families with kids. I only haven't given 5 stars as I like to save that rating for truly amazing places. Highly recommended.
s. s.
Super delicious food especially Shahi paneer, didn't expect cheap brown onions in a salad though, customer service is good but could be better. Still its a lot better than other competitors. Would visit again for sure.
N. N.
A very good Indian restaurant with authentic flavours. Good service too. Feels very homely.
A.
Warm and hearty northern curries great for the soul! My fav was the Bombay Beef and their Garlic Naan!
M. M.
TASTY! My hubby and I were staying in hotel down the road, we fancied an Indian meal takeaway, online it was too hard to book for delivery so I Googled this place and drove just up the road. Very friendly staff served us and the food was scrumptious. Thanks very much! 5/5
S.
Tried a few of the inner city Indians and this is our favourite! Gorgeous curries and tasty naans. I have not been to India so I cannot say whether or not the food is authentic - but they are certainly very tasty! Service is lovely and food comes quickly. The interior is sweet and has a (little) wood fire.
E. D.
Came during the week and had an enjoyable experience. The staff are very warm and friendly and brought everything out so fast! It was difficult at times to get their attention to ask for more drinks but we got there in the end!
We ordered samosas (which were probably one of the BEST I've ever had!!) and lamb tandoori cutlets for entree. The lamb was tender and juicy, very moreish! Paired well with their raita.
We also ordered the khadai chicken with rice and garlic naan, very tasty and the chicken was moist and cooked well.
Definitely the best Indian out of the ones I've tried so far in town, I recommend you give them a try!
J. Y.
Perhaps the greatest Indian meal I've had in the last decade. Behind the phony butchered art deco interior is a rare culinary experience. Hard to fault, elite isn't sufficient to describe the brilliant flavours.
S. B.
Great food, great service. Id recommend this place to anyone wanting a great Indian cuisine experience!
S. Y.
The food here is first class!! Had to wait a while even though not busy but WOW!!No fatty bits of meat all lean and perfect cuts ..Simply stunning !! Prices are great too and a quirky little.Don’t let the decor or the outside put you off. We had a very good meal here. The Bombay beef curry and a chicken dish that reminded us of butter chicken were very tasty with a great flavor, no fatty bits of meat
A.
Been dinning here for 12 odd years, every time my favourite dishes are exactly the same, every time it is excellent. Best Indian restaurant in Tasmania.
F. Z.
Handoor & Curry House is an absolutely beautiful Indian Restaurant.
My housemate Cindy introduced this restaurant to me and we ordered Curry Chicken with Rice for take away during this special social distancing time. We had this at home and the meal was very delicious and fresh.
The owners of restaurant are very friendly and welcoming. I highly recommended Tandoor & Curry House to Curry Lovers.
G. N.
Given the stellar reviews, I was excited to order takeout from Tandoor & Curry House as my first foray into Hobart’s Indian restaurants. We ordered the samosa, Makhan Chicken (very reminiscent of a butter chicken) and Rogan Josh with garlic naan. It was all fairly priced and a decent serving size, and the meat was tender and without excess fat.
When I ordered, we were told a 30min wait before pickup - and I always get there early so the food’s piping hot!.... except it wasn’t. I was surprised to be handed lukewarm (at best) curries given the empty restaurant, and would love this to be rectified as being handed cold food straight from the kitchen makes me question the freshness. Plus, much of the food is ruined in the microwave - the samosas lost all crispiness once I nuked them back to temperature.
The curries are fair portions and good value (and I love the complimentary rice!) - I would say 1 curry per rather hungry person, or for two people with a lighter appetite. I found them to be very, very mild given the ‘hot’ rating for both - and somewhat lacking a wow factor. I like my curries with a punch of spice and strong flavour - and would suggest branching out on the menu if you like the same (I think I’d try a vindaloo or some seafood curries next time, in case I chose the more general options). Excellent naan, though!
I didn’t dine in, but would say that the interior is lovely and that the food would probably be delicious served hot from the kitchen - much more so than cold in a bag.
I’ll probably shop around to find another Indian place for takeout, but Tandoor & Curry House was still pretty good. I just wouldn’t get the Makhan Chicken / Rogan Josh again - something spicy next time!
T. H.
We went as a group of 15 on a Sunday and they couldn't have been more generous in looking after us. Probably the best Indian banquet options restaurant in Hobart. Tops for value. BYO corkage at $4 is another plus.
T. P.
Went here on our first trip to Tasmania, after a local friend recommended it. He was absolutely right to. Fantastic, super friendly service, really nice environment somewhere between India and an old Hobart townhouse and incredible food - if you're not into spicy, try their specialty chicken, it's amazing and the portions are enough to satisfy almost anyone - their samosas are also incredible as is their Malai Kofta. I'm sure the rest of the menu may be as well, but that's what we tried. Cosy, friendly and delicious - highly recommend.
R. M.
Love the foods, esp Samosa and Naan...
But the service is really slow...
B.
Great experience full of Indian people (they only eat in good restaurants ) The waitresses were happy and efficient The samoosas were perfect I said is your chef from the Punjab ( home of samoosas she said yes would you like to meet him so I went in the kitchen So special after 5 trips to India
N. C.
The restaurant was just down the street from where I stayed so I decided to give it a try. I have never really had Indian food before and cannot take spice well so I ordered the chicken korma off the menu. The menu have stars beside each item to indicate the spiciness level which I found very helpful, and most dishes come in regular and large sizes. The regular sized portion was generous (was starving and had leftovers), and the flavours were rich and delicious! If I visit Hobart again, would definitely return for more authentic Indian food!
H. S.
Nice ambiance, good food and good service!!
A.
Always afraid of trying new Indian restaurants but saw the reviews on Google and it's very well deserved!! The setting is cute, the restaurant being a nice little house with tables cuddled up in every corners.
The food was really great at affordable prices. We took the beef vindaloo and chicken Madras, both served with rice .The naans taste amazing as well and the waitresses were friendly and professional. I would recommend this place without hesitation!
P. V.
We ate at this place while we were over from London. The service, the food, value for money, all 10/10!!!! Honestly, one of the best Indian meals my wife and I have ever eaten.
R. P.
A lovely meal, good staff, food and atmosphere
G. W.
A regular at this outstanding establishment. I'm a massive fan of Indian cuisine - I've tried everywhere in hobart, Tandoor & curry house absolutely takes the cake! Customer service an absolute pleasure, food is phenomenal. The price is actually cheaper than your average curry place!
P. I.
After surviving on pizza, hot chips and bread through our Tasmania vacay, we went to Tandoor and Curry House for some indian food and the place didn't disappoint. My husband and I went for the khadi paneer and Shahi paneer. I preferred the latter which had a nice creamy taste.the naans were big, buttery and flaky. I would give the khadi paneer a miss but the rest was good. The samosa was homemade and great in taste.
This place has been around for 20 years so duck into the place if you are looking for some curry.
C. C.
Best curry in Hobart. Always treated like family from their great customer service. However contacting them by phone can difficult and don't dine with a group bigger then 8 or you'll be waiting quite a while.
G. S.
Lovely food though best to avoid the poppadoms, pretty stale, even after we asked for them to be replaced. Naan bread positively the best we have had here in Tasmania.
A. D.
One of my favourite Curry Houses in Hobart. Could do a little better on the service, but the food is great. Its a little more expensive than its competitors but I would still recommend it to anyone after a Curry.
G. P.
Great food and the Kashawari naan is perfectly put together. If you are looking for a great option for something quick and not compromising on service or food quality - this is it. You might wait a bit longer than a typical takeaway Indian food place - but don’t worry. Its worth it.
R. K.
Excellent food! After a long time have I tasted really good Indian food. & I'm a foodie. This place surprised me, and I loved it!
E. N.
This restaurant has been around for years, quite a good menu of Indian cuisine, also has a wine menu. Staff are friendly, and helpful.
D. P.
We've been coming to the Tandoor and Curry House for 20 years and hope it's still around for many more decades. The best curry in Hobart. The service is exceptional and the pric is just right. Love this place.
S. S.
Pretty decent place with a handful of dishes and they do it alright. The taste can vary wildly between days so a "hot" can turn up to be "very hot" tomorrow. Very good and friendly staff.
D. M.
Favourite curry house in Hobart. My go to choices are the Malai Kofta and the Makhan Chicken. Trust me on those - you won't regret it. That said, I've tried most of the menu, and have thoroughly enjoyed everything so far.
J. S.
Great service and food. The meals come out so quickly. The madras is the best i have had. Highly recommend going if you are a curry fan.
m.
The layout is cosy and the atmosphere is warm. The food is excellent, the lamb entrée is the best I've had anywhere, the mains were just as good. The lassi was delicious and the largest I've been served in any Hobart restaurant. The naan was average but fresh and light. Service is good and the menu is a reasonable size. Very good food at a reasonable price.
L. C.
We had had a long day exploring wineglass bay and were wondering what to eat for dinner when my better half reminded me about the delicious smelling restaurant we had walked past the previous night. We had the Makhan special (don't call.it butter chicken) the beef vindaloo, some mango lassi and some naan. All of it was delicious. A must try.
C. C.
Lovely staff, delicious food
B. E.
Authentic and delicious! Great gluten free options for coeliac’s. Highly recommend. You’ll leave feeling satisfied!
M. B.
We had great tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala and daal. And there's nothing quite like a really fresh garlic naan. The wine list is mainly focused on good value basic brews from the large names but also represents a number of local Tasmanian producers. It was a friendly, busy, fast yet totally un-rushed visit and we waddled out feeling fat and happy. What's not to like? ;)
H. M.
Excellent food ....they sticking to what they do best...no biryani but awesome curry !!!
C. W. T.
The food was amazing and affordable. The staff are really nice and friendly. Will definitely go back again. 💯❤
D. S.
Absolutely amazing food - so impressed!! The naan bread is hard to describe just how good it is. Keep up the great work guys!!! :)
S. V.

5 star from our side!
I. L.
Best curry I've ever had -- and I've tried to find curry as good in many places around the world and failed. Highly recommend the Bombay Beef and Makhan Chicken. Noms :D
W. B.
Food was fantastic, best naan I've had. Cosy environment being an old converted house, however the cleanliness of the place really let it down, there was stuff all over the floor, unfortunate. Maybe just get takeaway?
A. L. A.
Lovely for them to cater a group of more than 15 people in a short notice. Thank you. Food was superb as well. Excellent service
N. A.
Afforadle price and excellent quality and tasty Indian food. Best Indian restaurant in Hobart. Excellent staff.
n.
Best place I've been to in Hobart in terms of the service and food package. We came here after having the worst experience at Rin and this place was amazing. Best service, best staff and amazing food. Highly recommended
K. R.
Still the best butter chicken we have ever had. Cosy.
K. S.
We had a special banquet for two, huge assortment well worth the price, nice attention to details like warm plates. Georgeous garlic naan.
B. P.
Excellent food! Haven't had such North Indian food for a long time 😄 Tandoori roti are very large size and raita and shahi paneer were excellent!
S. I.
The best Tandoori Naan in Tasmania, and this review comes from an Indian who loves his food. The curries are average but the Naans are to die for.
J. R.
Friendly service, big portions. Great flavour!
A Hobart staple.
P. B.
Our usual Indian was closed at Christmas so we tried these guys out, curry was ok, staff friendly but portion sizes were smaller and more expensive. Not good value at all.
R. B.
Hi. Looks dull from the outside. Warm on the inside. No wheelchair or pram access. Quiet a few vegetarian offerings on the menu. Decent place .
M. G.
Good food excellent customer service on weekends 🔝💯
L. W.
Very good service and excellent food. Recommend Chicken Korma if you don't like spicy food.

I used to get take away sometimes. i got the sense they used more expensive cuts of meat than other places but they charge you quite a bit more.
K. H.
Absolutely the best curry eatery in Hobart. Always fresh with atmosphere and friendly staff.
P. C.
From the outside it looks a bit dodgey, but don't let the fool you. They have absolutely delicious meals and are very well priced.
A. M.
Really great value, food was fantastic but service could have better mainly due to a few tables where the customers had finished and the staff took an extremely long time to clear the tables again
i.

(Translated) There are a wide variety of Indian restaurants with traditional Indian cuisine. At the dinner, I chose curry cows, chickens, fish and even miscellaneous dishes. The hospitality and friendly hospitality of the staff is very hospitable. The average is AUD $25 per person.
