Comments of Ungermann Brothers Ipswich (UB's Milk Bar)
A. D.
Stopped in for lunch today with the wife. Loving the new shop and burgers were great. Highly recommend the Pavlova Sundae. Delicious.
We’ll done to the whole team and we’ll be back again soon with the kids for sure.
Thank you for a great experience
L. S.
Ice-cream lovers heaven!
We've been meaning to visit for some time but between life and lockdowns, have only just gotten around to to it.
They are offering a reduced menu at this time. (A reason was given, but I can't remember it)
I decided to try the tasting plate, which are a set 3 flavours (Triple Choc, Salted Caramel & Pecan, Toasted Coconut with Rum and Raisen), the last 2 were the ones that I really wanted to try. My partner had Carrot Cake.
If you like Carrot Cake, you will really enjoy this take.
We then had a delivery of single scoops and tried some other flavours, the stand out was Dutch Spice. Reminiscent of a Chai Latte, the Dutch Spice was superb and will be back for more of this flavour.
Well done Ungermann Bros, well done!!

Mouthwatering flavors. Friendly and helpful staff.
The ice cream flavors are must try.
Seating areas are clean and tidy.
Reasonable prices on ice cream serves.
Located inside the old TAFE building next to the Pump Yard Bar and Restaurant.
Short stroll from the street parking.

I found the ice cream here to be light and generally a lot nicer than store brought. The flavors were stronge and tasty. It was definitely expensive and the ice cream seemed a bit more icey than creamy, which I preferred as it wasn't too heavy. We also had the pomfrets which I wouldn't order again. Not as fluffy and tasty as I would have liked. But the ice cream felt fresh and natural!! Wonderful little store as well.
Z. T.
Really good ice cream shop with interesting flavours. The interior is beautifully decorated and comfortable to just dine in and relax. The staff greeted us with enthusiasm and the strong air-conditioning helped us cool down from the heatwave raging outside. 👍

I stopped watching Masterchef after about season 3, so really had not much of a clue about this Ben Ungermann guy from season 9 who went on to open an ice cream shop in Ipswich, except there was a bit of a buzz around it and almost 2 years later I finally get there for a gander and a taste.
We had 2 single scoops:
* Lavender and honeycomb - wifey’s pick; I didn't really like it... maybe a bit of an acquired taste.
* Strawberries and cream - the boy’s pick; very nice.
Both scoops were served in waffle cones, a great pairing to some smooth as ice cream. You do pay a premium for the gourmet though - $7 for a single and $10 double scoop, so it helped that we had a BOGOF voucher from the Entertainment Book. In terms of pricing alone, $7 is about what you’d pay at some other ice cream/gelato shops charge for a double scoop, though that’s not factoring in actual serving sizes/weights.
Love the venue/decor too, and getting a look see into the kitchen where the ice creams are made. Worth a visit if you’re in the area, or even to make a day trip of it - we spent a few hours at Queens Park and the Ipswich Nature Centre before coming here for a cool treat.
I wouldn’t mind trying some of their milkshakes and/or plated desserts next time, whenever that might be. Actually, given they’ve recently opened a second store at Marina Mirage, it might be that I’ll manage to get there before making a return visit to Ipswich!
Pro tip: don’t be like me and pay $1 for metered street parking on Limestone St. There’s actually a car park on the other side of the compound - enter via South St. Save that money for the ice cream!
S. R.
You have just found icecream heaven. Ok, I LOVE icecream. I consider myself an icecream eating expert... This place takes it to another level. Smooth. Creamy. Unique flavours that are just so, so, perfect. The shops fitout is great, lots of fun. Entering past the icecream factory, seeing it freshly made and talking to the makers is a stroke of genius. I want more! Oh-So-Good. I'm in love.
T. S.
Great variety of ice cream and some standard flavours done perfectly as well as out there flavours worth a try. Staff are excellent.
S.
A delightful ice-cream shop located in the heart of Ipswich Town within the grounds of the former technical college.
Be ready to try some absurd sounding however delicious ice-ecreams. With runner up Master Chef winner and brother Danny and Ben using fresh and local ingredients to create and a delightful taste to the palette.
The abundance of flavours both modern spins on otherwise unthought of ice-cream ingredients to classic favours you will definitely be leaving feeling satisfied and coming back for more.
We had the Summer Tasting Plate and at $22 we were left full just on ice-cream. It had an assortment of Lavender and Honeycomb, Lemon Honey and Thyme and Pumpkin Seed Oil Ice-cream combined with a Chocolate Mandarin filled Cannoli. The three are ample for two people are these contrasting flavours and just what’s needed after dinner.
Cannot recommend this place enough and combined with the lovely service sets the scene for a great post dinner trip!
C. G.
Some of the best ice-cream I have had in ages in a old dinner style setting. The all natural ingredients and no preservatives makes it great for people that might be unable to eat regular due to a a sensitivity to see ta n preservatives. The liquorice and fennel tastes amazing as does the Salted caramel, bacon and pecan ice-cream. Pop in regularly and on special days like Australia day where they had lammington flavoured ice-cream or on Anzac day to taste there new upcoming flavour or just to indulge your sweet tooth.
D. S. W.
Great flavours, nice place to stop by in Ipswich for some ice cream, next door to the pub.
E. J.
Simply amazing, from the retro decor to the unparalled range of flavours on offer. My wife and I tried the Dutch spice, and the lavender and honeycomb which were wonderful. The blue cheese and fig or Belgian ale are among some other flavours for the more adventurous palette.
You must try if you're in the area!
I. D. P. a. G. “.
Over all the experience was amazing.
When i first looked at the icecream flavours i was very sceptical. However after they gave me a free taste test i was pleasently suprised.
my fave the lemon lime ans bitters gillato. ... i even got a second helpings i loved it so much.
keep up the great work!
Y. V.
So many delectable flavours! My absolute favourite is the lavender and honeycomb but I've recently fallen in live with rosewater and pistachio. The coffee and cardamom is divine also. A favourite haunt for an end of week treat!
R. K.
Delicious choice of flavours here! Take it in a cone or in a cup, there is something you'll like. Staff were friendly and helpful.
D. M.
Very clean. Lovely adventurous flavours. I'd highly recommend using this place for public break ups. Think about it, you can leave your partner crying whilst eating ice cream! Boom!
E.
The icecream is incredible, definitely recommend giving it a try, I haven't had a flavour I don't like🍦
J. F.
Great food, Terrific service and great vibes inside! Will 160% be back and bring my friends 😁😁😁
E. L.
Unique flavours. Cute established. Delicious homemade ice cream, made on site. I had the lavender ice cream and thought it was fantastic. I have also tried Vanilla bean, which was lovely. My Husband enjoyed his double choc orange. I would recommend it, though it is a bit pricey. Great for a little self indulgence or a date.
I.
I went here for the first time today. Beautiful shop in a charming old building and looking at the flavours on the menu, it seemed interesting. I had the dark chocolate and orange, and while the flavour was good, the texture wasn't creamy - the icecream separated into chunks when grabbing a spoonful out of the cup and the mouth feel was icy when biting.
M. B.
Loved the atmosphere. Quirky flavors. Lavender and honeycomb... omg yum!
B.
Some cool flavours and a nice place to sit outside on a friday/saturday night and listen to live music from the other restaurants etc.
J. G.
I’m from Adelaide & when visiting my brother in Brisbane, Ungermann Brothers Icecream was top of my ‘to do’ list. It did not disappoint ..... The lovely Lauren was very happy to spend time with us talking about the lavender ice cream she was making at the time. I had the Liquorice & Fennel & it was amazing!
Great ice cream in a great atmosphere. Highly recommend.
A. G.
Great decor, friendly service and great icecream.
L. C.
What an upbeat place, great atmosphere and service....The tasting plates are a must....And the Garlic icecream is just devine....This will be a place I will be haunting....Great Job Ben....
G. S.
Tried the lavender with honey comb and the Dutch spice. Both amazing flavours and a cute shop with kind staff and a great atmosphere.
X. Y.
This lil ice cream store (and the staff 😆) is super adorable!! Theor quirky interior and friendly greetings had totally brighten up my day.
Ice cream were in a very interesting texture, felt like a solidified frappucino. The ice cream melting really fast in my mouth as compared to usual ice cream, got a gritty texture that I wouldn't mind~
So much fun flavours to choose from and I got a lavender + dark chocolate orange. If only I get to try more!
A. L.
A little pricey but definitely worth it! A great selection of interesting flavours!
D. K.
We all really enjoyed the tasting plate, the kids loved what they had too. The friendly and very helpful staff what also makes that place
K. M.
We purchased two take home packs with six different favours. The carrot cake and dark chocolate orange were amazing. The service was good and it is a beautiful location. I look forward to coming back again.
C. L.
Great little place, very interesting flavors. We had the roasted garlic and the salted caramel with potato chips. The strawberry and balsamic sorbet was a stand out.
N. B.
I tasted the lime and coconut ice-cream there recently. It was wonderful. The general atmosphere of this place feels like somewhere the "Fonz" from Happy Day's would hang out. Back in the 60's/70's. It's quite a unique and lovely place. The owner manager's are terrific and genuine people. They dedicate a lot of time to make this the classy place that it is. I am very impressed :) Thumb's up from me, and The Fonz
T.
Five stars
Why 5 stars you may ask?
Was it the ambience? The quality of the ice cream? The easy parking and convenient location?
I suppose, yes. That is PART of why I gave this place the highly coveted 5 stars.
But no......the real reason. The truest reason. The answer you will find in the depths of my heart ... In the furthest crevice of my being...
Is an angel named Stewart.
There he was....Hospitable. Courteous. The very epitome of a modern day James Dean.
Even now as I sit, eating my creamy alcoholic Coconut Rum & Raison....all I can think about is this young, titan of industry....Stewart.
Oh my dearest son, how I long for my employees to be like you. To serve, and smile and strive under pressure like you. With a cool demeanor like Patrick Swayze in Dirty dancing.
People of Ipswich. Neigh. People of Australia.
Hear what I say.
Come to Ungermann Brothers.
Come and see this customer service icon in the flesh.
Give him a tip.
Give him a high five.
Shake his hand like the manly man you are.
And you will feel the inner peace and joy I feel right now
Stewart....we love you.
S. &. J. B.
Really friendly staff and the most delicious array of ice-cream flavours. The milkshakes looked pretty good too!! The licorice flavour is to die for :)
K.
Amazing icecream especially during hot simmer! Their recommendation was really good. If you are first time, they give you a spoon to try each taste and decide. Should also ask for popular/recommendation! They do make good recommendation. Will visit there again for one more ice cream!
J. S.
Absolutely delicious ice cream. We each ordered the Lavender, his second scoop was lime with mine being the lemon myrtle. Each flavour was delicious. Definitely going back to try some more
r. p.
Great flavours but texture needs improvement was to firm and broke off in clumps, Also a little bit to expensive. $7 for a scoop $10 for 2 scoops. If your around Ipswich and feel like icecream will definitely scratch your itch but wouldn't travel out of my way for it.
N. P.
Had the triple choc, not fantastic. Was a bit sweet n not creamy.I expected a bit more.
great variety of flavours n cool looking shop too.
R. T.
Interesting and tasty flavour options. Brand new business so I think it will improve even more. Decor was cool. A suggestion given the retro feel would be to add molkshakes as an option. Store front is a bit cramped when crowded but the ice cream is yum. They offer a tasting plate.so if you aren't sure you can get a few varieties (set flavours).
M. F.
Had the salted pecan and bacon flavoured ice cream. Beautifully made and balanced flavours, silky smooth texture. It was to die for. We have a new favourite ice cream shop. It was especially nice of Ben to come out and talk to us about his passion and techniques.
We wish you nothing but success.
W. F.
Some incredible icecream flavours all made on site, can even watch the churning and creations happening in store. Lavender and triple choc were insanely delicious. On par price wise with baskins. Worth a taste for sure.
D. C.
Wonderful place, excellent customer service and amazing ice cream flavours.
I. B.
Ungermann (or, Un-German, as one of the small people I was with pronounced it) Brothers, is a 1950s style ice-cream parlour, with seating booths, turquoise tiles, retro accessories and MILKSHAKES) serving proper, home-made ice-cream (and you can watch the whole process in the open kitchen) with a twist; amazing flavours chefs like Heston Blumenthal might come up with, like Salted Caramel and Bacon, Lavender and Honeycomb, and a Lemon, Lime and Bitters sorbet. After a few taste tests (which the staff recommend - and they re-use their hygienically washed spoons! Bliss) played it pretty safe, with one choosing Fairy Bread, one getting the Triple Chocolate (which apparently contained smooshed up brownies), one vanilla ("best ever") and I got Coffee and Cardamom, which tasted like an incredibly creamy, cool and refreshing Marsala coffee. The ice-creams were a bit pricey - $7 for a VERY generous scoop) but the kids all agreed it was worth it. It was so nice to go somewhere with such high standards for quality and attention to detail. Anyway, I need to go back and have the Thyme Lemon and Honey.
D. L.
Dutch spice was excellent and really nice to get the spekulaa/biscuit flavour so clearly in the ice cream. Definately would recommend going on an empty stomach amd consider the option of the plated deserts. They look amazing but we didnt have the time to sit and stay inside, had to grab and run instead!
J. T.
Gourmet, unique flavours. Been here multiple times. Never disappointed. Service has always been friendly and energetic. The atmosphere makes the whole experience even better with upbeat swing music and 50s diner decor.
D. B.
Great tasting Ice cream! Friendly staff! Had a great time there. Will be going back next week!
S. C.
Really nice venue, great ice cream. Can't go wrong.
I had the lavender and honeycomb. Ever since I saw the lavender one on MasterChef I've been wanting to try it. He delivered!
B. C.
Great creamy, delicious ice cream with lovely crunchy cone. Thoroughly enjoyed it
M. L.
Great & unusual choices of flavoured ice- creams. Restaurant quality without the big price. Very busy but they handled the crowd very well for 2 people serving.
D. H.
Unusual flavour Ice Cream and a tour watching them make it
B. A.
Awesome shop.... Seriously great flavours
J. J.
My friends and I had an amazing time there. There are so many unique flavours of icecream, all tasted amazing
p.
Lemon lime and bitters sorbet is very nice, and the dark choc and mandarin got a thumbs up from my sister. We had to wait in line quite a while to order, but that *could* have something to do with the fact that we went on Valentines day...
V. H.
Great customer service 👌 they let us sample every single one before we made up our minds and to be honest the quirky flavours work so well 👏 love the experimentation! Keep it up!
P. P.
Shop looks very cool, 50-60s rockabilly theme even with old movies playing. Ice cream is a bit hard, not smooth enough and the spoon is too soft.
S. J.
Great tasting ice cream with unique flavours, staff are always friendly & enthusiastic for you to take away a flavour that you'll enjoy.
M. N.
This newly fitted with a flare for retro outlet is a must for anyone loving authentic ice cream or gelato. Truly creative flavours such as Lavender and Honeycomb, Roasted Garlic - who would have thought! The Dark Choc with Mandarin is exceptional.
DF and GF options
M. T.
Fantastic flavours and friendly staff, but just be aware you will be paying $7 for what appeared to be a smallish single scoop of ice-cream. A bit expensive for this family of 4.
B. A.
A quirkily decorated retro ice creamery with a curious twist of flavours that will have you returning to sample more of the perplexingly delicious ice cream concoted by the Ungermann Brothers team. Definitely worth a visit of you're in the area. The staff are quite young but surprisingly knowledgeable.
B. P.
Great Ice-cream with very interesting flavours. As an add bonus, all flavours except one are Gluten Free and the Gluten Free cones are delicious also.
J.
One of the most unique icecream shops around. Everything from Garlic to Pumpkin icecream. Retro 90s parlor interior real icecream shop feel. Friendly staff and awesome service
J. L.
Tasty, creative ice cream served by nice people in a revitalised historic quarter. A bit more expensive than Messina in Brisbane. Not that anyone asked me, but a suggestion: present the premium ice cream in classy metal Napoli pans and ditch the white plastic tubs.
W. C.
This is an awesome place full stop. Put it this way, if you like unusual icecream, then this is the place for you!! Address of this place is:
88 Limestone Street Ipswich Qld.
V. C.
Love the unusual ice cream flavours. Do not knock any unless you try them. It’s always a pleasant surprise. My favourite is the Salted caramel bacon and pecan ice cream with Belgian Ale a close second. All the rest are my third favs.

D. L.
Gourmet and traditional flavours within a cool retro shop/kitchen. I loved the liquorice and fennel, while the kids had triple chocolate.
J. L.
Interesting flavour options but...... Was a little bit underwhelming to be honest. Very creative ideas and overall, a fun experience waking through their kitchen.
