Beautiful venue and furniture, minimalist, clean, and best of all no music!
Our steaks were cooked to perfection, and the coleslaw and the rye bread was to die for.
Service was great too, very attentive and polite.
Thank you guys! It was my Partner’s birthday and he was thrilled! We will come back for more memories.
K. V.
An absolute must try for those who love quality meat. We ordered the tomahawk to share and it was carved table side, such a great experience to those who love their steak.
The side dishes were average however, and the service of one of our waiters was a bit standoffish but the energy of the restaraunt and the quality of the steaks more than made up for it.
Will definitely come back here with friends for special occasions.

One of the best steaks that I’ve ever had in Melbourne, pepper sauce was good as well. The table service was excellent.
(And somehow I love the wooden dining table, it’s smooth and clean :D )
Definitely gonna come back.

I was excited to come try the 100 days dry aged steak as I have tried 42 and 60 days dry aged steaks, each adding more funk to the flavour profile. The 60 days dry aged I tried had a delicious blue cheese flavour to it so I had high expectation for 100 days. Unfortunately the 100 days ribeye did not meet those expectations. The steak was tender and juicy but there was no funk. It had that familiar "beefy roast beef" flavour of dry aged but I'd say this experience was no different to a 42 days dry aged steak. I also tried the steak tartare which was good.
Overall the steak was perfectly cooked but for $100 I was expecting a lot more flavour.

I went on a random walk on Flinders Lane and found this place. I was thoughroughly impressed. After walking around for about 45 minutes in town I felt immediately relaxed and welcome. Starter was Gravlax Salmon and Main was a 40 day aged ribeye. Both did exactly what I needed them to, satiate and indulge my appetite and tastebuds respectively. They had one of the most unique ways of decanting wine I have seen. I will probably return.

We came for a weekday dinner. The dishes overall were pretty good quality and the ambience was lively. The staff were friendly and quite attentive. The steak was a bit under done in certain areas and the ribs could of had more flavour, but overall nice place to visit.
L. L.
It was amazingly beautiful, high quality produce with exceptional table service. Tomahawk was definitely an enjoyable experience. Ceasar Salad was a beautiful compliment to the steaks. Beef ribs and wings are a must try!Highly recommended
H.
Really good quality meat and delicious steak here. The bar is great too. I'd recommend share a few items from the menu if going as group as the menu is so expensive
S. C.
Fantastic experience from start to end. Came here for my 40th birthday dinner, initially reserved a table for 14 people and had no issues. A week later called to see if I could include 1 more and they were happy to accommodate. Love that no deposit was needed despite my big booking, much appreciated.
Had the 1.5kg tomahawk steak and it was heaven. The fatty pieces melt in your mouth. Was soft & tender, cooked to perfection. The only criticism I would have was the sauces were in tiny portions; should be a little more generous for us diners feasting this big steak.
Would definitely come back for the steak. Arguably the best steaks in Melbourne. And thank you for a memorable night!

Amazing hidden gem on the heart of Melbourne. We have been to Hereford on a monday evening and the place was incredibly busy. Even though, we had a great service, waiters took our orders as soon as we decided what to order, they kept our glasses full and took the plates away as soon as we were done. 5/5 on service.
If you think the service was the highlight of the night, you are wrong. The food was amazing, sides were a bit pricey for the serving size but incredibly delicious. About the mains, they are mostly beef, with one pasta and one fish option. Quality wise, the meat was amazing. The best beef I had in Melbourne. 5/5 on food.
Would come back and recommend to a friend!
Also, they have a huge selection of wines, I wasn't drinking at that time so can't give a review on that.
S. K.
One of the best steak restaurants in Melbourne. This hidden gem is well decorated and has great menu selection. The staff were very friendly and the steak cooked as per our requirements. The drinks menu is outstanding with great collection. Finally wrap it up with the desert menu.
Womdeful food for celebration.

Of of my all time favourite places for a good steak. I'm never disappointed when I go here. The food is usually pretty from order, and cooked to perfection. On this trip my steak had a little extra gristle/fat than I had noticed before, but the flavour was amazing. They also have a great drink selection! Ideal for a night out with a special somebody, or as a group outing!
M. R.
Absolutely amazing night, food was amazing and paired with beautiful wines from their extensive selection, our waiter,Arthur, for the night was very lovely, made our night from the start. Had an extremely great knowledge on the wines he served us. Would come here again
A. E.
I can not ratr this establishment high enough. Friendly and helpful staff, amazing food, well priced in comparison to other steak houses. All in all a delightful and delicious night!
M. N.
Really nice place in a side alley off Flinders lane, amongst some great graffiti walls (see pic below).
The service was really good, our main waiter was a tall lad (big beard) that was welcoming and friendly, he also provided a great selection of red wines to go with the meal. Another waiter actually forgot a couple of items we had ordered (luckily they were not on the bill).
The rib-eye-on the bone was really good. Dark chocolate mousse with pistachio ice cream was decadent and rich (I couldn't finish it, luckily the others could). Creme Broulee was also nice, I tried the rice pudding, which was not my thing, but the others really enjoyed it.
For non-meat eaters, they only had a choice of calamari (entree) or barramundi. If you ordered a steak you could have added a lobster tail, but that was not a separate menu item.
I would definitely recommend this place as a good steak house, and would certainly go there again.
J. D. R. C.
Great place, excellent meat and amazing customer service 👌
W. C.
Foods are nice bt there service is not kind especially when we check.
R. J.
Very attentive staff, great service and as usual amazing, perfectly cooked steak. Have been twice now and have gotten the in-bone eye fillet to share each time - bloody brilliant!!
Chicken liver patè is a lovely starter and the red cabbage with bacon and mushrooms are delicious sides. On this visit, the kitchen accidentally made an extra serve of chips and when we told the staff, they just let us have it for free 😂 Creme brulee and sticky date for dessert rounded out the night perfectly.
All round great service, great quality food and such a great ambience. I would recommend a serve of Aquavit to start as a pleasant social lubricant, if you don't hate aniseed/licorice flavours (we had the one from Norway).
R. T.
Lovely place for dinner. There were 5 of us and they all had juicy tender steaks, I had the Hanger steak. Yes it was tasty, and precut for me (don't know why, I did not ask for it) but it was not soft, tender and juicy. My steak was a little dry compared to the others. Obviously due to the particular cut, I would not ever get this dish again, I was extremely disappointed.
A. C.
Great Sunday evening with my partner in this delightful and Nordic-styled restaurant. We shared a chicken liver pate and tasted the two extreme dry aged steaks, all accompanied by an excellent wine from their selection. The cuisine is excellent, the wine selection is ad hoc for meat (mainly Barossa) but with some pleasant exceptions. The staff is kind and always available to talk about this and that but always without being intrusive. Very good sticky date pudding. I'll be back to try the tomahawk.
P. S.
Amazing food with great service. Steaks were cook to perfection and had so much taste. Would 100% recommend to anyone going
S. C.
Absolutely amazing food. Steaks were cooked Absolutely perfectly cannot complain about one thing. We will happily be coming back
A. H. (.
Great restaurant its pretty hidden and you may easily miss it, the front looks small however thats only the bar area, the bar can hold a lot of people. Came here a total of 3 times, IT IS NOT FOR VEGETARIANS, they specialize in steaks and dry aged meat. Its a bit on the pricey side but its the quality you are paying for.
They have a big wine list, and their house wine comes straight from the barrel and a special aeration pump.
Worth the vist even if its just once to taste quality meat cooked right.
A. A.
Food here is simply sublime. Honestly the 100-day dry aged rib eye was one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. The 45-day dry aged rib eye was fantastic as well. Service is really good and the restaurant has a beautiful open kitchen. Would come here every time I return to Melbourne.
T. B.
On this visit we gave the $40 express lunch a whirl. For the starter, the salmon was tasty but in terms of portion size, the chicken wings were a much better option. We all went for the 250g dry aged rump for the main, they varied in size from quite shallow (one pictured) to much chunkier. Steak was perfectly cooked. The 45min was a bit optimistic if you’re short for time, we were just over 60mins from when we ordered to finishing. Staff were friendly and we would come again.
M.
Service is a bit hit and miss. Food is good and moderately priced. Virtually no vegetarian options on the menu if you have a vegetarian (have to call ahead and let them know so that they can ensure pasta for the vegetarian person is available) in the group and non alcoholic beverages are limited to soft drinks and bottled juices. Desserts are nice and reasonable as well. Steaks are good but do confirm ahead as some of the items from menu are not available (even though they are on menu).
A.
I recommend Salmon and pear salad. I found out one thing, sometimes, if the chef cut the steak too thin, it will be over-cooked. The steel plate for steak is a bad idea. The noise of knife cuting on the steel makes me sick🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮
D. S.
I really wanted to like the steak here.
The tomahawk was wonderful and the rocket salad was excellent.
However, when I bit into the 150 day aged steak, I realized what was missing...charcoal.
It was missing the taste of real smoke and ultraviolet heat searing through and activating the amino breakdown of flavors.
I don't understand why they would prepare a wonderful steak, age it for 150 days, and then it gets cooked on a gas grill.
It's like someone getting the best materials and perfect condition to paint a masterpiece and then they ruin it by getting the world famous artist to not paint with their hands but only with their teeth without a paint brush.
Why would they do this?
The service was friendly and staff were professional but not aloof so that saves them from dropping down to 3 stars.
O. P.
I had the aged steak. Yes it's very expensive but it's so worth it! Very interesting tasting steak. Well worth it. Yum.
T. T.
Once again, the steaks were amazing. The seasonal vegetables and croquette were good sides to wrap up a wonderful dinner with excellent service!
J. D.
The open kitchen showcases the wonderful aromas of the meats cooking on the char grill.
Great wines available with an impressive wall of them as you enter through to the restaurant.
Properly aged meat has great flavour the way beef was meant to taste.
Side dishes were an extra addition that complemented the steak quite well.
A great steak place for the meat eaters in all of us.
L. H.
What an incredible experience! Can't wait to get back here and enjoy the variety of quality steak and meals on offer. Yes they're on the pricey side but totally recommend for date night or that treat. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly, steak WILL take long to cook to perfection. The bar has issue on the night but they let us know.
P. H.
Great food! The 150 days grass fed beef is just wonderful, plus the truffle butter is such a compliment. And if you’re not already blown away, the desserts will.
And, the team of very friendly and attentive staffs gives it a complete 5⭐️
J. S.
The booths are well designed for a large group, fabulous birthday evening for my son. The resturant has a great layout. Staff helpful friendly. If you love steak this is the place to go, love your location, typically Melbourne unassuming back laneway.
R. L.
We had a great experience here. Steaks were cooked perfectly. Reasonably priced, staff were all very friendly and delivered good service. Restaurant has a cosy and homely ambience as well. Would definitely recommend!
J. t. a.
I had a very wonderful experience at this restaurant. We had a kid in the place and the place is very accommodating. I had "100 DAY DRY AGED BEEF
CÔTE DE BOEUF (RIBEYE ON THE BONE)" and it was well worth every cent. Tender, flavoursome and very filling for my insatiable appetite. Duck Pate was medium to fully done which was very nice in deed. GRAVAD LAX SALMON was cured elegantly and it was an unforgettable experience. The waiting service was quite good too.
K. S.
They can cook a great steak! Decided to share the tomahawk steak and it didnt disappoint. It arrived on a trolley where the waitress carved the meat off the bone and presented it beautifully before serving it to our table. Cooked exactly how we wanted it. Side order of rocket, pear and blue cheese salad accompanied the steak well. Enjoyed a glass of McLaren Vale shiraz with it too.
Service was good with friendly staff. We had a table at the window overlooking Flinders street. Great night out.

Hereford is my go to for steak in the city!
It is quietly tucked away but it is an absolute hidden gem.
I always feel very welcome in here. The staff are ace and the atmosphere is sophisticated and relaxed.
The steaks are never cooked wrong. They always have my steak cooked to medium rare perfection.
The menu is great. Plenty of options other than steak with a fantastic choice of sides. All of which are good sized portions.
This place is perfect for a date, friends and family dinner and a business lunch.
W. C.
Great service and food. Took a little bit of time to serve though. But when the food arrived it was glorious! Ordered a 1.6kg tomahawk steak to share. Also had the sharing dessert platter. Will surely return for more steak goodness in future.
M. F.
Loved this place, great friendly banter with the staff who were serving us and looked after us well. The 1.5kg tomahawk steak was exceptional, great value for our group (we ordered the beef ribs and a few sides also to share).
Highly recommended!
N. A.
If you want a perfect mouth watering steak then I suggest you stop here. We had the grass fed 1.4 kilo tomahawk steak. Cooked to perfection carved at our table with truffle butter and mushroom sauce, beer battered chips on the side. Everything about it was perfection. To top it off they have an extensive wine and beer selection to help wash it down. The staff were efficient, polite and helpful. I can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu. The only issue as per anywhere in the city was finding disabled parking and getting to and from the resteraunt if you have mobility issues.
C. T.
Onr of the best steak! I'll definitely recommend this to everyone I know, staff are all very friendly. We'll definitely come back.
N. L.
We came here for steak but fell in love with the beef spare ribs. Service was good. Tom hawk was cooked well. What let's this place down was the sauce and it was a shame. Nice desert.
R. K.
Great dining experience. The eye fillet melts in your mouth and the aged rump beef flavor was what all steaks strive to achieve. All the desserts sounded wonderful, so we ended up getting the dessert platter.... best decision ever. Service and atmosphere were equally pleasing. I'll definitely be returning.
V. L.
Fantastic steak house with great drink list
L. N.
We liked the place and the staff. It was a little low key compared to other venues in the same area which was nice.
The food could have been better though. Unfortunately the lobster tail was the highlight of our dinner. We ordered the 45 day aged bone-in rib-eye which should have been very good. It seems as though it was just not cooked as evenly as it should have been (well done on the outside and rare in the middle).
For a steakhouse we expected a better steak.
J. Y.
Espresso martini & Mojito were great! Old fashion wasn't.
Food was ok. Weird and audibly painful cutting steak on a metal plate.
Bathroom is abit derelict and dirty, quite a contrast from the restaurant and bar.
Service was poor, ordered 3 pasta mains, 2 serve arrive a few minutes before the third which was half the size of the other two, brought up the inconsistency with the waitress, who laughed and ignored my comment.
I. A.
A Hereford Beefstouw is lovely anytime but at dinner it is almost magical. The restaurant is roomy and yet cozy, the walls wrapped in odd paintings that defines the space as a place where time does not count. Warm atmos with wooden floor and tables.
When you stroll out of the lane shadows into this gracious cellar wall-filled walkway, you leave the real world behind… passing the small kitchen and grill you'll oft see heat being mercilessly applied to those beef meat slabs.
Most days the banquettes that ring the room are occupied by an astonishingly varied group of people, (asians love their beef too) - Our Saturday night had a mix of family and Christmas reveller guests. The bar at the front lay empty. Most tables wanted to try the $150 tomahawk, their most extreme beef.
Westerly decaying daylight washed thru from the back windows overlooking Flinders street as trams and trains passed. All around us patrons were having personally carved beef offered up to them, a prelude to some of the things to come and deja vu to others of what had just transpired.
A table next to ours had cleaned the meat from the bone and continued to gnaw away, bone in hand which made an impromptu photo op. Their signature dessert was a small revelation, a glass of ice cream, syrup, ginger and rum mascerated raisins, yum, dynamically prepared right at your table. Delicious well cooked food, would recommend. Rocket pear and blue cheese salad another hit accompaniment to beef. Well, almost everything was superb: only quibbles: mushroom sauce was ordinary and the steak needed a little more seasoning for my tastes, the patrons did pay attention to their food. But then, at Hereford Beefstouw the food does not allow itself to be ignored.
M. P.
The food was exceptionally well-prepared, staff were super-friendly & attentive and service was second to none.
Great selection of whiskies too!!
K.
Lovely dry aged rib eye on the bone it was even more tender than my own mothers love. I wasn't surprised at the 1 vegetarian option as I have a fully functional brain and understand this is a steakhouse. Very good job guys. I will be coming back
R. C.
Fourth visit here and never disappoints. The quality of the steaks is second to none. This time my brother and I went all out and ordered the 1.5kg tomahawk steak. Yes we ordered one each. It was a challenge to finish it but we managed. It would be a perfect share dish but we don't like to share 😁. 1.5kg of perfectly cooked red protein, what more could a carnivore ask for.
I hope things get back to normal soon so we don't lose places like this, in the meantime let's enjoy the ones that are trading and this place is definitely to be enjoyed. The staff are just terrific and the service impeccable. Won't be my last visit here.
J. C.
Its a good steakhouse. Anything noteworthy? Hmm... probably nothing to write home about. Would come back with my wife next time though. Great wine selection.
E.
Location of venue and the venue itself is the best part about this place very nice and cosy, the steak itself was okay but very over priced for what you get. Good choices of wines and beer.
You will enjoy the walk to the venue down an alley with melbourne city art
A.
Excellent steak and great service. It is pretty expensive, but it is a city steakhouse.
You'll find it on Eatclub for 30% off on weekdays.
If you're looking for one of Melbourne's better streak places, this is it.
V. L.
Great steaks, great wine at an ok price. Would have been five stars were it not for slightly incompetent staff.
J. n.
Fabulous food and experience. Could not complain anything. It was worth for waiting 45 mins to have meals. Steaks were delicious. staff were friendly and very helpful, giving good suggestions.
W. S.
Unbelievable aged steak! My partner had an unaged fillet that was okay, but she was somewhat underwhelmed by the flavour after trying my aged steak.
A. B.
This is the best steak I have had in a while.
The location is surprisingly big and looks fantastic as you are lead past all the great wines to your table.
We had octopus to start which was light and refreshing.
Wife had the eye fillet, which just cut like butter.
I ordered the 300day aged T-Bone medium rare.
We had the Roquefort cheese and pear salad with fries.
We both ordered sauces but really only dipped our fries in them to be honest. The meat was just so good.
I had a glass of Vinteloper Shiraz as the wife wasn't drinking. Wish she was because the wine list is very good. Not huge but well thought out.
We ordered the sticky date pudding for dessert which was just to die for.
The staff were all really attentive and knowledgeable too. Thanks for a great night.
M. L.
The overall experience is awesome! The place is nice, staffs are friendly, foods are yummy...
But it just takes too long to wait for the signature Tomahawk Steak (1.5 kg) to be served. I totally understand it needs a long time to be cooked, but the waiting period is relative long (around 30 minutes if I’m right).
In a word, if you are starving, remember to order some starters/entries, otherwise you may be angry because of hungry, otherwise, enjoy the meal and the place.
L. F.
Really enjoyed this steakhouse. Had the rump steak and calamari to start and was impressed. Great discovery and will definitely be back. Thank you
K. T. D. O. M.
Easily one of the best steaks I’ve had in Melbourne.
Top quality, meat was like butter, didn’t even need a knife.
H. S.
Tucked away in AC/DC lane a restaurant with a nice atmosphere and very helpful staff. Dry aged beef was delicious and wine to match was excellent.
J. T.
One of the best steaks I’ve ever eaten! It was a little noisy and it would of been nice with some sort of background music. Overall a great experience!
H. R.
First time back here since pre-covid. Don't know if things are not running the same as before, but the steaks just weren't the same (though the quality of the cuts were still great), and the service felt rushed this time around.
C. S.
I have order a ribeye steak of medium rare, however it turns out at medium. A bit disappointed but still satisfied of the nice bite and fresh oysters ordered. Most of the staffs are nice and helpful, but one of them seems has a bad memory and forget almost all my request.
H. L.
Greeted by friendly staff, my mate and I were very satisfied with the experience at Hereford. The quality of the food based on the price is reasonable and its just a nice sit down restaurant to satisfy your meat cravings.
R. W.
Good steak but not great.
Service, with exception of the wine service, was not great. A good dinner but something was lacking…
B. M.
One of the best steaks I’ve ever eaten, excellent food , wine and service cant wait to go again A++
C. R.
Wow the food here was super tasty! Ordered the 160g fillet steak which was super tender and melted in the mouth. The salad bar is the best around, super fresh and so many choices. The desserts were also super tasty, I tried them all....the chocolate mouse plate and creme Brule were the best. I will return for sure.
C. T.
The restaurant is in a cool location, down an alley way, right at the back - you'd never think it would be located there. It's simply furnished inside, and we were there early, so had good service from the wait staff.
I had the hanger steak, and even though I requested medium rare, it came out more like medium. The other sides we ordered were nice, although on the high side of pricing for what they were.
y.
Well first the meat is amazing. The chips are nice too. All the food I had was nice. Tip: Try the dessert called the special something. GORGEOUS🤩
N. K.
Best place to have steak. Ambience was good, staff was friendly. Will visit again.
S. Y.
Best steak I have ever had in Melbourne, great entree and starts, the house wine is also amazing
M.
Had the Extreme steak, marble score 4+ grass fed steak, medium rare. Cooked beautifully but the steak was a bit tendony. Ordered the red cabbage and bacon for side.
G. N.
Great place to have a cosi great steak, with an inconspicuous entrance, you get nicely surprise with its great environmental air and generous sitting space, food is great and elegant, great selection of fine wine and very subtle service
C. D.
Beautiful venue, stunning location with the street art, incredible food, the only let down was the service which was disappointing. Requesting a wine recommendation was hard as we were unable to get a clear answer, it took far to long (approx 15 mins) to clear our plates once we had finished, many of its staff were standing around the bar chatting rather than being attentive to its guests.
S. M.
Dined on a Monday night, the wine list is extensive and the food decent quality. There was definitely a lack of experience in the wait staff although it might have been the fact it was a Monday.. not a bad experience all up, but there is much better around for the price.
J. Z.
Amazing service from all staff and thanks for the good quality dry aged steak I have even had. We will comeback for the 100days dry aged steak again and try beef ribs next time.
P. N.
Perfectly cooked dry aged steak. Entrees delicious. Service impeccable. Great steakhouse.
P. J.
One of the most tender and beautifully cooked steaks I've had. Wonderful ambiance and friendly staff paired with this amazing rump roast made Hereford a must visit for steak in Melbourne
H. S.
Staff are very nice and friendly. With all respect, I didn't like the steak as I have had better steak in Melbourne. The offer of shared meal was not really for 2 people. Considering we were not very hungry either. But still not enough. I believe it is just 20% more than a normal meal. In total good to try once. But I might not get excited to go back again. It is just my opinion.
B. A. Z.
This is a very good steakhouse i had the serloin and it was amazing they have a few tap beers that go well with steak. The staff are very friendly and professional and the atmosphere is very nice highly recommend if you are a steakhouse lover
L.
Food was great, service was good and atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice. Parents loved it too and the rib-eye was the best! Would definitely go back and highly recommend!
Z. W.
Really love the fantastic selection of wines here served by a friendly and knowledgeable host. A cut above your regular wine bar and superb fitout. Cannot wait to go back.
Q. 3.
The steaks are juicy and tender with a very reasonably priced wine list. Great ambience with exceptional staff service.
M. M.
Absolutely my favourite steakhouse experience. Delicious dry aged steak, great wine and amazing service. Will be coming here every time I visit Melbourne.
D. Q.
The steak was so juicy and delicious. Definitely will come back again soon.
D. J.
To start what a great ambiance, coming into the restaurant from one of the more decorated streets of Melbourne. Very friendly staff, and that even before you get to the food. Had the 100 day aged rib eye. Melt in your mouth delicious. I would also highly recommend trying the rye bread, absolutely delicious and I felt I was back in Copenhagen. To finish things off, one of the best creme Brûlée I have had in Australia.
N. L.
The 100 DAY DRY AGED CÔTE DE BOEUF had a taste like no other steak. Absolutely satisfied, wanted more but was so full.
C. M.
All steaks are pretty big. My steak was Hereford dry age 400g new york sirloin and was rare instead of medium. Staff were good drinks were nice and $10 side of veggies was the standout. Also side of mushrooms was better than the steak.
S.
Beautiful meal, excellent service and lovely ambiance. We shared the 500g eye fillet which was amazing!! Also shared the ribs and seasonal vegetables. Every single dish was delish and cooked to perfection. Drinks were lovely too (we had a cocktail and some wine) and service great without being over the top. Will defo be back!
B. W.
Great meat and great wine. Be sure to ask about their house red!
P. F.
Gorgeous Danish steak house, great service, delicious food, great vibe
E. B.
Amazing dinner! Best steak I have ever had!
C. J.
Great quality of dry aged steak with nice selection of wine and cocktails. Absolutely love the steamed seasonal vegetables!
Staff is very friendly and helpful.
F. P.
Tucked in a lane way the restaurant was very nice. Good was great. Steak was cooked perfectly. Definitely going back again.
D.
Excellent steak, albeit a bit pricey. Not sure if I'll come back again, to he honest, I think there are slightly better price to quality ratio restaurants to be found...
M. T.
Incredibly friendly floor staff, Arthur was fantastic and very generous, will definitely be going back.
T.
The steaks here are very delicious. Can come try
G. M.
My friend and I just had such an enjoyable experience here. The food was outstanding, the service was friendly and attentive. Even a small issue with the timing of our meal was resolved perfectly by the staff, who did everything they could to make our experience memorable. Tomahawk steak was just divine, and the quinoa salad matched really well. The McLaren Vale GSM was an equally great match and everything was reasonably priced for the quality. Cheers. Great night.
C. P.
I was having a pregnancy craving for steak and came across this gem of a place. I liked how they are doing a la carte, many steak places are currently only set menu. Great service.
Two steaks, rack of ribs, 3 sides, 2 alcoholic drinks, 2 mocktails a and dessert for $200. Already thinking about our next visit!
J. H.
Better than most but cooked on gas not charcoal which limits the potential. Not a really serious steak place. 4/5 for good service and being pretty solid.

It was a great steak and dessert. And good atmosphere.

Came here for the first time with my partner last week. We ordered the Chateaubriand and it was cooked to perfection and the waiter had cut it perfectly in-front of us before serving. Cocktails were superb and also staff were very knowledgeable on wines and meats. Overall an excellent experience and one of the best steak places in Melbourne. Highly recommended. 10/10
C. Y.
Amazing experience, sommelier knew what he was talking about when it comes to wine. Stake, well obviously it was amazing. 100 day aged rib eye was to die for. Sirloin on the bone was amazing as well. Same with the t bone. Tried all the saucers as well. Loved the pepper sauce and the mushroom. Mushroom sauce wasn't very mushroomy but I loved it. Will definitely go back
C. L.
We had the tomahawk 1.4 kg steak between 4 people with meatballs and seasonal vegetables as sides. It was a delicious, fun experience.
m. i.
Amazing food and great staff, fun entertaining night, with great food and drinks, definitely can't wait to come back
I. A.
This place never let our expectations down. Our steak served excellently of how we like it. Value is affordable if you are ready to pay what you want. Superb staff and friendly to our four legged guide dog. We come here always before watching concert shows. Well done guys and more power.
P. J.
Wait for half hour for the food is totally worth it. Tbone and dry aged steak are great.
K. W.
We were a group of 5 and I personally ate a fortnight quota of meat! We started off by sharing the Tomahawk steak which was done beautifully. I had the Hanger for my main - it was nicely aged, succulent and rather gamey... Perfect. This place does steak like the old days. Wonderful place and excellent service too.
B. B.
Place is very nice and cosy. Good service, friendly staff. But the eye filet was undercooked and meat itselft was not so great. Will give another try if I pass by someday.
M. W.
Be prepared to get filled because these meals are a decent portion for the price you pay!
Very nice environment!
Perfect for dates, group dinners with friends and family!
Will definitely go again
P. V.
Quality food and a reasonable price. Service was good and value add items like the way it is served add up. If you love quality steal give it a try. Sides are reasonable price as well. Highly recommend
T. E.
Had a three course dinner with friends that was delicious. Rib-eye steak was spot on, while the apple tart was brilliant. Service was friendly and atmosphere was bustling without being noisy. Would recommend for visitors to the city
A. P.
Great steaks and even better service.
M. S.
Excellent food if you wish to indulge, with an elevated view
M. T.
Hereford Beefstouw is my hubby’s favourite restaurant in Melbourne and every year we go out to celebrate his birthday at Hereford. Sadly, this year we can’t continue our tradition but thanks to Hereford at Home we were able to celebrate with a beautiful steak (and ribs) at home. The food was affordable and delicious, highly recommend!
J. S.
Such a cool restaurant. Hidden down a laneway, was super impressed when we walked in. Very nice interior, and was very busy when we went. Had to wait for a table, but chilled in the bare whilst we waited for one to come available. Steak was 10/10 and service very friendly. Highly recommend if you're looking for a steak.
M. d. V.
Amazing food. Beautiful subtle decor and the most amazing wine decanter I've ever seen
L. B.
Good place to eat, fresh oyster, tender steaks and delicious desserts.
K. O.
Very nice restaurant with very nice staff. Ordered 100-day dry aged ribeye. Ordered medium rare. Only reason for 4 start rating is that the steak was cooked unevenly....it was cooked almost well done to medium well for about 1/3 of the steak. I know it is a thick bone-in cut and it is hard to cook evenly but it could have been better. Maybe it was rested too long in the oven or reverse searing could have been better method for this steak.
k. J.
Small ribs portion (we ordered two racks thinking it’s two large racks) but nah it’s just 3 large pieces. Dry aged beef was good though a very small portion.
Chips, and red cabbage salad were nice and fresh.
L. L.
Service was good, ordered medium raw... Was maybe more raw. Was ok... Didn't find the sauce amazing.
B. v. B.
Great quality steaks with a solid wine list to back it up. The sides were also delicious although the chips portion was small so order extra. We visited the week before Christmas and was surprised as to how quiet it was, it suited what we were after which was a good catch up with friends but if looking for a buzzy venue I'm not sure this place would deliver. If you have a great wine collection at home you can BYO with $20 corkage per bottle. We'll definitely be back with a few friends and some nice bottles.
D. M.
Really enjoyed the food, the drinks and our table by the window. The decor is nice and scandic - I just wish the toilets matched the restaurant too!
k. r.
Disappointing. Asked for medium rare as per the waitresses/chefs recommendation and got something between blue and rare. This was consistent amongst the other steak orders too. There was clearly a difference of interpretation with regards to what is rare and isn't. Everywhere else seems to get it right though. The waitress was also incredibly curt all night.
The fit out was however very nice so it gets an extra star.
A. B.
Located in a cool alley with lots of photo-worthy Graffiti. We went with a group for my husbands birthday and it was really great - everyone loved the steak, it was cooked to the right temperature, as per our requests, and was so tasty we almost didn't want to use the sauces. Have been back since then and it is consistently good.
A.
A hidden gem found that I truly enjoyed. Service was really up there and the quality of the food and what was served was truly up there. I will definitely be going there again!
l.
I have been here twice now, and have immensely enjoyed each experience. The food is sensational - I love steak in general, and the Dry Aged beef here is some of the best I have tasted. The sides are great, with ever changing Chef's Specials (last night was a carrot dish - I can't work out how they got all those flavours in there), salad bar is tasty. Wine list is full of whatever you need, plus a craft beer list from all around Vic. All in all, can't wait for the next visit.
E. E.
We went so my husband could have a great steak. He loved his steak. I cannot eat red meat. The vegetarian pasta was way too salty. The service was lacking. Our server never returned after delivering our food. We had to flag our server down to get our check.
林.
The decoration is not bad. But it is little dirty on the wall. About the food, I have to say is no good enough for a steak house. Steak was a little over cook, season is no well. The potato looks good but only when you look. When they send me the second one,it good look and warm enough, but with no season. So it only gets a three star.
x.
Me and my friend had my birthday dinner here, the beef is nice and I like the lobster too, but the waiter probably forgot the message and we didn’t have the cake we ordered...meanwhile there was another lady having her birthday with the surprise cake, so it was bit sad for me:/
K. C.
Good food, fabulous staff, had a great time and went home full of delicious food
M. R.
All that I expected. Dry aged steaks were spot on and rest of my group were happy with their meals.
Beers were cold.
R. N.
Amazing steak. Place is quiet with great ambiance, staff are nice, checking up on us making sure we have everything we need without over crowding. Drinks are also yum!
c. 7.
fast and friendly personal. But they pre cut the meat and it was half-cold halfway through. A shame. Taste was good
G. T.
Good friendly and helpful Staff, excellent selection of meat dishes with a good wine selection to accompany the main meal. Very delightful atmosphere. We truly had a awesome dining experience.
J.
Very limited menu and higher price than average for steaks. The quality of the steaks were good though. Decent wine and alcohol selection. Good to experience, but wouldn't be a place I would add to my “regularly go to” list.
J. S.
Nice steak and surprisingly very good pasta
D. B.
Been to the Adelaide Hereford, so was keen to try the Melbourne version. wow! down a cool laneway and kinda hidden. Once you walk inside it opens up into a beautiful space. Steaks great and massive wine list. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the wines, so that was a bonus. Def would return.
K. B.
The meat and wine selections were great, but the starters didn't quite hit the mark due to very small servings. Otherwise a fantastic meal and experience, will come back for another meal sometime with friends (the rib rack was incredible!!)
S. W.
Its a strange layout in a slightly hidden location but that only adds to it's character. Steaks were pricey but the high quality of the South Australian Hereford beef is undeniable. The fancy decanter was fun and we got to watch it all night as we were seated next to it. A great choice all round if you're in the mood for fine wine and red meat.
T. K.
Great steaks and great services. Very cozy casual dining.
J. F.
Had a celebratory dinner here with my father and a we were chuffed by the end. Although there was a mix up with the entrees, the staff were proactive and offered a complimentary desert to compensate. We both had the T-bone steaks, safe to say it was the best steak I’ve had out. The desert is also worth getting into, the desert platter for two really treats your sweet tooth, though the cream brûlée was particularly nice. My father was a chef for 20 years, he has high standards and he also rated the food. Staff are attentive, the quality of the food is excellent, the cosy modern interior juxtaposes the alluring grungy exterior. This place is worth checking out!
V. A.
Excellent steak. I ordered the garlic butter sauce and asked if they could burn it ever so slightly. Didnt think they would pay attention but the chef understood and translated my request, which made the experience that much better. As a self proclaimed expert in steak (arent we all), I can confidently say this steak was cooked to perfection. The dish was served up minimalist, with just a chunk of meat, but dont be fooled! You order a steak, that is what you get, no need to distract yourself. The meat was carefully cooked, first cut presented a deep pink rouge perfectly fulfilling my medium rare request. The chefs skillful technique resulted in a steak that was consistently cooked, while keeping its meaty structure. A slight nutty flavour, which was elaborated by my burnt garlic butter condiment. If you are walking around Melbourne looking for a steak, be adventurous, go down the alley and find this unique diner. Well done chef and staff!
T. A.
Great steak, the fries were even better in my opinion.
S. M.
I cannot recommend Hereford Beefstouw enough. Our meal was one of the best dinners and desserts I've ever had. The surroundings were very comfortable and staff couldn't be more friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant
B. J.
Wonderful dining experience for a special date night, the mood is quite relaxed with very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
We had the salmon to start and new-york sirloin and rib-eye beef, with desserts. Each course was exceptional! Definitely coming here again with the in-laws ;)
J. T.
Funky steak restaurant hidden down AC/DC Lane. Really enjoyed our dinner here, was excellent. Huuge wine list, and very nice ambience. Very busy and bustling melbourne restaurant. My steak was divine, cooked to perfection. Will go again for sure.
E. H.
The best steak I've ever had. Took my partner for his 30th birthday and the staff made it such a special occasion. Food was amazing and very reasonably priced. I've recommended it to everyone and will definitely be back.
J. T.
Interesting place with a lot of potential. Open apparently 2 months so far and a little off the beaten track so when we went on a Wednesday lunch there was only 1 other table. The decor is clean, modern, and a little hipster. Service is aimed at being extremely high-class but unfortunately, because of language barrier and some inexperience, it fell short. The Chef Special and the sauce selections were read off the back of palm cards and the chateaubriand and the rib eye (which are carved at the table) were not carved well. Food was overall a very high quality - the entrees were excellent and the meat was clearly an exceptional quality. Meat temperatures were pretty much spot-on, maybe slightly more cooked than we were excepting for medium-rare. The forks are awful. They are fancy to look at but are heavy, awkward to use and too thick. We had to request normal forks (and apparently this is a common complaint). Other feedback would be that it would have been nice to have more salad/side options - in particular to be able to order a side salad to share. The current set up makes it seem like minimum order is $12 of salad and only 1 person is allowed to eat it? Also flavoured butters for the steak came out cold and hard. This made it a little difficult to use - would it be possible to have them taken out to reach room temperature when the mains are called so they warm up slightly?
E.
Service was fine. Food was just average. The steak and sauce came out really bland. Although there were grill marks on the steak, the outside of the steak was not caramelized enough in my opinion.
N. T.
One of the best steak places I have ever been to. Nice decor and friendly service. Hidden in an alley with great vibe for a cosy and soothing dining experience. Highly recommend the steak and the onion & mushroom tart.
ト.
Meat very soft, mocktail not on the menu, but ask to make. You can select few different sauce for you steak. Dessert are great too
E. K. K. J.
Great beautifully done steaks. Attentive service.
L. K.
Here is the Meat! the place to be when you know which cut picks your fancy,if you dont the Staff will happily help you decide.. the menu ranges through the single to the group enjoyment, the chef in the kitchen knows the difference between rare and medium rare down to the second, there wine list compliments every choice of drinker, domestic or international, I would give 6 stars if possible!! looking forward to my next time, I had a spectacular night! thank you everyone !!!!
K.
Amazing steak, got the filet steak and the lobster tail. So much flavour and the steak cuts like butter, so tender and tasty. Definitely worth it for a special dinner. The lobster was amazing too, super tasty. Would recommend to everyone for a good steak.
J. L.
One of the best in Melbourne. If the service is better i will give 5 stars.
J. K.
Really great steak here. Setting was lovely, lots of space between tables and not too crowded. The accompaniments were great and nice wine selection too. Looking forward to our next visit.
C. S.
Chic decor and chill ambience. Great food from starter to dessert. Attentive and friendly waitstaff. In one word: excellent!!! Wasn’t exactly cheap but well worth it.
Starter: salmon gravlax
Main: 45 day dry aged ribeye in the bone
Dessert: combination platter
And a carafe of the house red
C. L. P.
Service is amazing and they sure know how to cook meat. Asked for medium rare and it was perfect. Also the bearnaise is amazing.
J. P.
Fantastic food, steak was cooked perfect. Staff where good but not great which is why its four stars, more attentive and quicker to take your order after seating then it would be an easy five
R. H.
We went last night, for the first time and what a meal we had ! The Salmon for starters was amazing, and to discover that 2nd's were available was a nice surprise. As for the Steak, I had possibly the most succulent sirloin that I've had since moving to Australia. A great selection of wines, topped up by a very attentive and knowledgeable staff and it all made for a great evening. We shall certainly be returning, and soon.
E. A.
One of our favourite restaurants in Melbourne. The steak is fantastic and honestly the atmosphere is really what sets it apart. Staff have been so lovely.
C. R.
Wonderful service, steaks cooked exactly to our request, great selection of sides and quality wine selection at reasonable prices. Nestled away amongst lane way street art, a must visit for steak connoisseurs!
f.
Can honeslty say that eating here was one of the best experiences I've ever had eating out.
My team and I were all excited to order a bloody good steak and we certainly weren't dissappointed. The steak was cooked excatly how we wanted, as with the rest of the food. The meat practically dissolved in your mouth when you took a bite and everything else we ate was cooked to equal quality.
But the star of our experience was an amazing server named Arthur. His service is what makes people like myself write such fantastic reviews about a place. He was fun and engaging, offering suggestions and educating those of us not as familiar with such high quality food on selection without being pushy or condescending. He gave us our space when we ate and was always ready tableside when we needed him again. He provided great bants, better laughs and overall a highlight experience for me and my teams lil' getaway.
Hats off to you amigo. We'll come back for that crate of wine bud 😉
W. N.
Amazing aged beef. 100plus days of aging! The beef is really tender and takes on some new complexities in its flavour profile. There are also grass fed options too which I personally found to have better flavour than the grain fed variety. Very tasty meat which has been well cared for and very well cooked. There is a small selection of sides available which accompany the mains very well.
L. V.
I booked a romantic Saturday night dinner for my partner and I as we had read and heard very good things about A Hereford Beefstouw.
Upon arrival we had to wait several minutes before being shown to our table, which was understandable as it was a Saturday night and quite busy. However from there the service just went further and further downhill.
As we were ordering (after waiting 25 minutes to order) we informed the waitress that my partner is pregnant asked if we could get the rocket and pear side with feta as opposed to blue cheese and were informed that this wasn't possible which was quite surprising as the salads aren't pre-made so it would've been very easy to substitute. We said that it would be fine if the blue cheese was on the side and placed our order.
At the point of ordering we also asked for some more water, the bottles of which were right behind my partner, after waiting 10 minutes we decided to help ourselves!
The food was very tasty, although slightly underseasoned, but all in all it was a lovely meal.
The waitress serving us however was unattentive and took far too long with the basics. Her colleague (with a bald head and moustache) was great though, refilling our water without being asked, getting us a desert menu and clearing our plates within a few minutes of finishing our meal and bringing said deserts out within 5 minutes of us placing the order.
If our original server had been this chap then we would certainly be rating the restaurant 5 stars.
B. V.
Top 3 steak places I've been to. Rib eye is cooked consistently well.
M. P.
Amazing restaurant with its own unique story.
A little on the pricey side of town but is well worth a step down yet another alley to discover this hidden gem tucked in amongst all of Melbourne's eclectic graffiti. Staff are warm, bubbly & attentive, a HUGE selection of local wines, craft beer & spirits and the desserts are just to die for!! 😍😍
K. A.
Awsome little adventure for myself and my autistic son for his 13th birthday. The lane way entance made it quite a fun adventure for him. Staff were awesome and took him up to look at the kitchen and explained the different cuts of meat and how they cook them.
The steak was perfection. The wines delicious. Atmosphere and decour fantastic.
This place is now on my top 5 list. And we will be back.
C. D.
Delightful food and service! Turned up with no reservation at 8pm on a Friday night and they were able to accommodate us very quickly! The food came fast, and the cocktails even faster and we were out in less than an hour from ordering. Thanks! We'll be back!
J. T.
Great, delicious, and just great! We started with the Oysters, the natural uncooked ones were so creamy, there was no fishy taste present either. Next we ordered the pork ribs and they were so soft and juicy, came right off the bone, best i ever had. For our mains we had their quality 700gm dry aged Cotê de Beof to share, recommened to share between two.
Our waiter was a friendly, young man in his 20s, who had just moved from Adelaide, I don't remember his name but he was so good at his job :)
C. B.
What a find! Looking for a special meal after a special experience at the Hugh Jackman show. Discovered this amazing place! Like the Tardis...hardly noticeable on the outside, but leading to a large area with views of open spaces! All this in a laneway!
Service is perfect..friendly and efficient staff, and the food experience was to die for! Everything we chose was a joy to our tastebuds! Not a cheap place by any means, but if you’re looking for something special you can’t go wrong with A Hereford Beefstouw! We’ll be back!
J. K.
Our usual restaurant for anniversaries. Love the steaks here. We will try other menus next anniversary.
S. L. G.
Food exceptional! But service seriously lacking...my friends birthday....called ahead to let staff know....did not even mention it, or utter a happy birthday. Water and menus took more than 10 minutes to reach our table and we were routinely ignored for refills.... Food was great...so the problem is not in the kitchen, but wouldn't go back ....it's melb, there are too many more options where people will work to make you feel welcome. Disappointed overall.
A. H.
Delicious steak, lovely friendly staff. Meals were slow to arrive. Our 8pm table was not ready and our main courses did not arrive until after 9.30pm. We did not order entree did not like any of the choices.
G. M.
What an amazing hidden gem the 100 day aged steak is an experience not to be missed i will be back!!
S. G.
Great steak, that's the main reason we went! The service was hit and miss though... When we arrived, the host thought it better to answer a phone call and then walk away, rather than to look after us. We stood for a few minutes waiting for him to come back. We only had a main course, which took over an hour to show up. They waiter did apologise and offer to take our sides off the bill.... But in the end we were charged for them anyway. I probably wouldn't go back, but the food was really good and worth a visit.
C. A.
Nice decor, friendly and attentive staff, but for the price I wasn't super impressed with the food. My steak was cooked medium when I asked for medium rare, and the broccoli was undercooked and too crunchy. I would go back and give them another go however.
A. J.
A Hereford Beefstouw is a fairly new steakhouse, nestled in a quiet lane in Melbourne CBD. We were a huge group and ended up here for an early dinner. After quickly settling down with their house wine, our friendly stewardess explained the menu to us. I chose a Cured Lamb Shoulder for an entree, and the suggested main Cote De Boeuf [Ribeye on the Bone].
While we were eagerly awaiting the entree, our stewardess showed us to 'The Garden' which is a towering salad bar, brimming with some of the freshest Australian produce, along with a wide accompaniment of sauces and dressings. I made myself a huge bowl full of goodness with as much little dressing as possible, since I wanted to sample the produce as they are and not let the wonderful dressings take over. The mix was amazingly fresh, crispy and crunchy and added the much needed prep for what's to come further. It also took some guilt away of not eating enough veggie goodness in my regular day to day meals. In fact I was done for the weekly allowance of my veggies.
As the entree arrived, I was very impressed with the way it was presented, rustic and top notch. The pictures speak a thousand words (or more in this case), check them out. While I overlooked the entrees of my friend's, they were presented equally well and I am sure tasted well too. Well, mine was a flavour bomb, such melt-in-your-mouth goodness, just exploded in my mouth.
Two pieces of crumbed lamb, resting on a sea of pea puree, floating snow peas pearls, with scattered mint and other greens, and the crispy piece of Kiser flesh bacon, carefully placed in between.
I am recording this experience as the most satisfying entree I have EVER had in all of my culinary experiences and I would visit A Hereford Beefstouw just to have their Cured Lamb Shoulder, again and again.
But, I do have a little detail to complain, it has to be the portion size. Well I am kidding, it's the perfect portion for an entree and I would have easily savoured two portions as my main.
Speaking of mains, I must confess that I am not a big fan of medium rare meat. I like my meat mostly well done. However for the Cote De Boeuf or the Ribeye on the Bone, which came highly recommended the chef's recommendation was to go rare, and I was suggested to go with at least a medium rare. The stewardess did promise me that if I did not like it, she will take it back to the chef and make it well done. When it arrived at my table, was taken back by the portion size, it was a huge piece of meat [I was warned on the menu that the portion is enough to share between 2]. After a quick lemon squeeze, I started carving my meat to bite sized portions. I cannot say I enjoyed it thoroughly, but the meat was tender, wonderfully seared and seasoned to my taste. I never sent it back to get it made well done, however I could not finish the huge piece of meat. As per my friend's recommendation, I did nibble the T bone, which is supposedly delicious.
While their desserts looked very sinful and tempting, I was too full to go for them, and made myself a promise that there is always a next time.
Quick Summary - A tasteful place for a perfect dinner with your friends & family, highlights are a towering garden that you can savour and a flavourful entree with a wide range of steaks. Thank You Hereford Beefstouw, for a wonderful memory of the best entree of my life. Reserve me a place, I am visiting again.....soon.
C. M.
This place is by far the best steak restaurant in Australia.. Its fairly new hence why its not on the map just like RockPool or Squires Loft. I can gurentee you, this place has the best meat you will ever eat anywhere in Australia. Not to mention the succulent side dishes and entrees available on the menu. The staff treat you with the up most respect and are always well presnted.
R. L.
Officially the best steak I've ever eaten. Amazing!
V. B.
Such a great steak!! And the place is super clean and airy
K. C.
An awesome steakhouse. The beef was amazing. Great staff.
A. A.
Such a great meal. What I was most impressed by was that there really is something for everyone. I can't imagine that's an easy thing to execute successfully - but it's made to look effortless at A Hereford Beefstouw. Our troop of 4 adults and 3 kids didn't look out of place amongst the business folk coming down on their lunch break due to the clever positioning of tables and chairs, and we were able to enjoy our meal fully as they were kept entertained by the colouring books/menu! I'm struggling to think of anywhere in the Melbourne CBD that has struck the sort of balance this place has which allows it to be on trend as well as practical, and serve quality food without being pretentious. We'll be back!
E. S.
+ high-quality steaks
+ extensive wine list
+ great atmosphere
A. C.
Could not complain about the food, apart from being a bit overpriced. However to give the staff a bit of an excuse, the place seemed understaffed. We sat for nearly an hour before we got served our starters and around half an hour to get our wine we ordered.
S. V.
We had the 1.5 kg steak between 3 of us. Good slice of meat. Good service. Another good choice for steak if options are needed.
C. Z.
Great quality and tasting food with exceptional service. From entree to desserts, the food was extremely tasty, cannot fault a single dish. Stand out dishes for me were the mussels, tomahawk and eye fillet.
M. S.
Had an unscheduled lunch here yesterday as a walk in with a colleague. More than impressed with the service and then there was the steak. Absolutely brilliant find mainly due to the rating on Google maps.
P. F.
Steak was very good (though not amazing) and service was excellent.
The decor/vibe of the place is ill suited to the venue. It's kind of IKEA-ish crossed with a massive restaurant, when they should have gone with something cozier/warmer.
M. S.
Came here for a dinner with friends and ordered a selection of dishes across the menu. Everything was great however the standout was the tomahawk which was carved in front of the table. Friendly and attentive service throughout the night.
G. D.
Wasn't expecting such delicious chips, salad and dessert when their steak are all ready very nice. Would definitely come back.
P. M.
Lovely steak and dessert
P. C.
Awesome steaks, very fresh decor, excellent service . Thanks Nicole.
E. J.
Amazing food, great service and ambience
S. W.
Really good stakes and atmosphere, love the coleslaw salad here
R. D.
Great place. Food, Wine and customer service spot on. Fantastic fit out really worth a visit
C. W.
Amazing steak. Great service. Highly recommended.
F. A.
The steak is so much better than where I come from.
A hidden gem in the corner!
F. P.
The quality of this restaurant is exceptional and most waiters are very friendly. One to thing to note, though: the chief bartender is quite rude and disrespectful.
Nevertheless, this place is to be recommended, just ignore this gentleman!
C. T. (.
One of the best meals I've had in a long time and the family all agreed, steak cooked to perfection and the sides were amazing, can't wait to come back.
K. M.
Delicious food, great ambiance, attentive staff
A. K.
We found this place by wandering down a laneway. It was an amazing dining experience. The steak was divine and the starters were too! I am already planning my next visit!
d. m.
The restaurant advertises itself as an upmarket steakhouse - the quality of food is good, service attentive and also reasonably priced We were somewhat surprised that they were unable to accommodate our requirements for the chateaubriand - we therefore elected to have the fillet steak which was certainly one of the best we have ever eaten - Overall a good evening for dinner, The only downside was the poor cleanliness of the toilet facilities which require improvement -
A. C.
We went there for our valentine dinner and it turned to be an amazing experience. From the waiters to the food nothing could have been better. Only the Pommard could have been more grown up.
Z. C.
Delicious food and beautiful environment!
But a little hard to find the entrance
M. M.
The food and service was impeccable. The decor is Scandinavian, homely and comfortable, and not pretensious at all. The beef was some of the best I have had. And the desserts were amazing.
M. P.
The best steaks in Melbourne hands down.
A. Z.
100 day dry age beef is not just a sales hooks, you can actually taste the textures difference.
I would suggest try the spicy chicken wing, chicken pate and 100day dry beef.
h. s.
Took my girlfriend to A Hereford Beefstouw last night for a romantic dinner. Food and service was absolutely sensational. Expectations were far exceeded, will definitely be back.
Thanks :)
C. E.
Very nice meet and the steak for kid menu very soft and nice
C. C.
Nice Ambience & superb meat ....never go wrong to eat dine here, ordered a 1,5k Tomahawk and condiments.red Wine was carefully selected to pair with the cut.
M. M.
100% will come back again, nice chilled environment.
Great food and wine.
Get the tomahawk and share it between 2 and you won't regret it
C. C.
Great night out with mates. Awesome steak and wine selection 👍
J. B.
Great steak and cool atmosphere. The house wine was excellent. Steaks from the Extreme Beef list recommended.
S. B.
Not bad, but not mind blowing. 2 out of 3 steaks were great, the third just not perfect. Pretty good wine selection and great fitout.
S. D.
Wasn't blown away by the steak but I guess if you can't cook your own steak then this place is great. Atmosphere was good too. I. Would go back
R. a.
Nice atmosphere, good menu, steaks were under cooked sloppy service( spilling wine and water) and the maitre d, so miserable.$500 Bill and not even a thank you for coming, how was everything didn't even geteye contact............
L. C.
Great steak! Restaurant is well setup also.
D. M.
Had the mutton which was a little disappointing (fatty). Friend had the rump, which was good. Decent wines buy the glass. This place comes up on EatClub occasionally.
P. W.

Hidden Gem! Favourite steakhouse with perfectly cooked steaks! Highly recommend the Foie gras entree and you get a massive Crème brûlée!
c. t.
squid for starter absolutely not fresh, and cooked in an extra old oil, extremely small portions 3 squid in a plate full of rocket $ 20 waiters not prepared to respond to the ingredients on the menu gluten free bread unavailable cold meat sauce pate a very small portion 20 $ and the meat nothing sprciale compared to the cost very very expensive but the food absolutely not good the only rating from 4 ☆ is the place I do not recommend it very expensive for the quality price ridiculous
P. B.
Had a great time! Steak was delicious but wasn't rested long enough before they carved it and seemed a touch rare.
K. B.
I had possibly the best steak I've ever eaten here. The chateaubriand was perfect, and the locale makes this about as "Melbourne" as you can get.
