Such a superb experience at this restaurant. Welcoming and friendly staff on top of delicious food and drinks. My friend and I shared a pasta and a pizza. The pasta was deliciously Moorish and I am so glad we ordered the vodka dipping sauce for the pizza crust. It is a fantastic idea and I absolutely loved it. I cannot wait to come again and try a square with a group of friends.

Beautiful place to have pizza and a drink. It's a lovely place to chill, with a fantastic drinks list and friendly staff. We always go for a square pizza (Grandma) and it is super super filling. Tastes kind of like a thick and chewy sourdough base, balanced out with a generous serve of sauce and cheese. The pastas are just okay. Come for the pizza, drinks and vibe! The burrata looks amazing.

First time going to Capitano and I had heard a lot of good things. The interior is gorgeous and it has a lovely ambience. The staff were all amazing and had great suggestions about the wine. We ordered one pasta with duck that was so good, and then the vodka pasta. I was a little disappointed with that one as it didn’t taste quite like a traditional vodka pasta dish. It was quite heavy; reminded me of pumpkin soup and was hard to get through it all. Probably wouldn’t order it again. Overall really good though and I’ll definitely be back, probably for the burrata and the service!

The sort of place that you just can’t go wrong at - because everything is so delicious. Cocktails, starters, good friends, great food. It’s the best combination. We came mid afternoon during their limited menu, and in no way did this home us back! Vibe and service were both perfect, and food was so good. It felt like we tried everything on offer, but my highlights would be: fried mozz and focaccia, and then 4 cheese and roni square pies. That said, there was 4 of us and we each ordered a different square pie and it was the perfect afternoon. Lots of sharing amongst us and leftovers for the next day.

Always our best pizza place in town! THE BEST ! Everytime we must order a round and a square pizza, and guess what? Two of us we finished everything and always a Tiramisu for dessert! Excellent Italian food and the cocktails here are also what you’d expect at a cocktail bar. Had the fusilli pasta and was very happy with it. Washed it down with an old fashioned and couldn’t stop at 1. My brother had the tiramisu and my only regret was I wished I ordered one for myself. What you typically expect but they had some walnuts on the base of the dessert which was a surprise twist.

Capitano Carlton is a trendy pizza joint that we visited just before lockdown 5.0. It was full of people and the place was buzzing. We ordered a few pizzas and the pepper spaghetti. The potato pizza was a highlight. Service was efficient. Definitely worth a visit.

I came To capitano Carlton tonight and was very happy with everything. The staff that were all on duty were so kind and served with great culture very hard to find workers that genuinely care about a business and they work with passion the food was on point we ordered a yummy squared mushroom pizza and some different types of pasta. Honestly I probably have never tasted pizza that delicious and very light. Over all I would come again and bring my family I recommend to family and friends. Delicious pizzas! One of the best in Melbourne. The dough is soft and airy with crispy cheesy edges that add great flavour. Pastas are also great. We ordered in lockdown and was one of the best meals stuck at home! Previously went to dine in and the wait staff are great, very courteous and attentive. Even though they got one of our orders wrong, they were quick to resolve it and were genuinely lovely.

There are far better pizza places in Melbourne. The pizzas here look real nice in photos but tastes a bit disappointing. Got the round cheese and square pepperoni. Found the square pie to be quite chewey and dry and the cheese on the outside was a bit too crunchy to the point of being hard. On the upside the miso old fashioned was delicious, like drinking a butterscotch candy. And the iceberg salad was great with the hazelnut praline l, like a dessert salad

Cosy with dim lighting. Rigatoni with Vodka sauce was perfect. Patata Pie was tasty but only in centre, then two thirds was all pastry without topping. Square Pie was flavoursome but tasted as though base was pre cooked , either that morning or the day before then heated perhaps under a grill. Ours was lukewarm leaving the dough tough , nothing special , overpriced.

I love traditional pizzas like this, at other places, hubby and I share a pizza and pasta plate, here, it was a bit of a struggle, our fault, the double roni is no joke, it’s covered in pepperoni which makes it really filling. The pasta was great too, but it was served after the pizza, we went with the suggested sauce for the pizza crusts (recommended by the staff), which was the same sauce from the pasta dish, just charged extra, would prefer to have all the meals out. None the less, I’ll be back trying something else next time, staff were very cool and friendly.

The crust, well done with zero flop, the sauce great, and a nice sharp bite from the Parmesan on the cheese. Super lovely night out. Really standout Italian with decent vego options- didn't feel limited at all. Dough is exceptional quality and the fennel broth lemon filled pasta was cry-worthy, it was so on point. Details done right, cocktails also crazy good and the hospitality... *chefs kiss*. Our waiter Luigi was a straight sk, brought us a lil tirimisu liqueur to finish the meal like the true legend he was. The cockles of my heart have been thoroughly warm ever since.

Capitano was recommended to me by a fellow New Yorker. The grandma pie and penne ala vodka were the two dishes I was to try. I am so glad I did! Not only was it extremely close to New York Italian fare, it was the best pizza I have had since moving to Melbourne 18 months ago. The food was excellent, we had a fair wait while the young Irish waiter got his act together, chatting to younger and more trendy people. Our order was eventually taken by a very switched on Asian chap, who couldn't have been more helpful. When the time came to pay our bill the Asian chap asked if we'd like to spilt the bill, we asked if we could finish our drinks first, he said of course, I'll come back. 5 minutes later the obnoxious Irish guy came back and asked us to pay, splitting the bill apparently wasn't allowed and could we leave immediately as he wanted the table. (There where other tables free) Three young ladies next to us arrived earlier and where still there when we left. Because of this guy our lunch was ruined, we're not coming back anytime soon and we'll tell as many people as we can about the appalling service. What a shame one rude and ignorant person can bring down a whole establishment.

Went on a Wednesday night with a friend and was greeted by some warm waiters which always help kick the night off on on the right note. Ordered the grandma's square with extra vodka sauce and the rigatoni with vodka sauce too and needless to say I was blown away. The grandma's square had the right amount of cheese and crunch to make me want to order another plate of it and to top it off the vodka sauce was the perfect condiment to compliment the grandma's square. The rigatoni pasta was phenomenal and the sauce definitely lived up to the billing. To end the night off I ordered the oolong ice-cream and the tiramisu which I would definitely go back for. The oolong ice-cream had the perfect level of sweetness and there were some dates (I think) inside the ice-cream which complimented the ice-cream so well. When I ordered the tiramisu I was a bit hesitant at first as I'm not the biggest fan of it but, wow it knocked all of my concerns out of the park! Inside of the tiramisu was walnuts which I didn't expect and they gave the perfect amount of crunch for the tiramisu blended in with the smooth creamy taste of the chocolate and coffee. Overall a fantastic experience and one that I won't forget! I will be back for sure!

Everything was just great. We had a day layover and actually found this restaurant in the airplane magazine. We're happy we went. The food was fresh and delicious including the zucchini-garlic pizza that was on special. And the drinks we're equally impressive. Caught up with a friend here recently. Have been wanting to try since they opened. We made a reservation and lucky we did as it has a small dining room which makes for an intimate space. Food menu was small and a little odd, but we went with 2 pizzas that were simple but full of flavor. The place got very noisy so it became hard to hear. Everything was great, but I ordered a glass of wine and for a $12 Victorian wine, was very small. Cute place, but definitely make a reservation. I also did find it odd that they required a credit card for the reservation.

Got tempted by the ratings and the photos of the pepperoni pizza - and wasn't disappointed! The "Double 'Roni" pizza has some really high quality ingredients! It was a bit overcooked - but I'm sure it was a one-off. We also got a squid ink spaghetti and they were quite nice :). The staff is friendly and the atmosphere gives positive vibes.

I was shattered when The Beaufort closed down. However, Capitano opening in its place has made the pain a little better. The food is fantastic. We had the Unduya pizza which was delicious and packs a bit of heat. The pasta with vodka sauce is just amazing as well. We came on a Tuesday night and it was pretty busy so reservations are a must I would say. Excellent food and very friendly service. Looking forward to going back again.

I've dined at Capitano three times now and it never fails to be a top notch experience. They have an interesting and excellent wine list, simple cocktails, and delightful food. The specials are always very interesting, and the wait staff are the best in the business. The only downsides for me are the noise level inside the restaurant and the difficulty finding a carpark in the area (so walk or catch a tram if you can).

Ike's has always been my first pick for Southern style smoked meats , my favourite being the meat platters (x3) (selection of smoked meats), There food is great, service is terrific, the venue is a little small though. They just recently dropped the platters from their menu, and have effectively reduced their selection of meats to Ribs / Burgers ect. Still a good place for ribs and a drink, but no longer my tip for the smoked BBQ meats or the platter lover.

Loved it! Perfect pizza, pasta and veal parma! One of Carlton's best restaurants. Remember to book through their website before visiting. Customer service was great, friendly staff. The place can get quite packed and noisy but the food compensates for any inconvenience. Make sure you pair food with wine by bb graetz. What a perfect match. Pricing is not your friend but it's not too much either. Must try guys!

Read about this place on Broadsheet and wasn’t disappointed. The vodka pasta was perfect, pasta cooked al dente and the sauce was insane. Literally sat and was planning on wen we could come back. Also had the winter greens with Parmesan and anchovy dressing which was moreish! Atmosphere was good and the mood lighting was great on a winter night.

Went here with the family for an early fathers’ day dinner and had a great time. The saffron negroni went down a treat with the olives and garlic focaccia. Followed that with a cheese pizza and anchovies, pasta with vodka sauce, salads and a well recommended red. Finished off the savoury dishes with the bone-in veal parmigiana - so tender and juicy. Then came the tiramisu which was delightful with complimenting dessert wine. Great service from all the staff. Will definitely be back and is recommended.

Not a bad local pizza pasta place. I may have had a bad experience. Positives - the wait staff were friendly and attentive, and pasta sauce was lovely. Negatives - atmosphere was way too loud, couldn't hear my wife from across the table, felt like the space was too cramped in and too many tables for such a small space, adding to the noise. The pasta had a lovely vodka sauce, but the pasta was cooked slightly raw. Im no expert, but when al dente pasta has hard chalky crunchy bits in the middle, i'd say it was under cook (ps. i didn't complain, im sure the restaurant would have swapped it over for us).

On the site of the former Clare Castle Hotel, The Beaufort has styled itself as an American-style sailor’s dive bar (replete with lifesaver motif on the front door) and is an integral part of the significant uplift of the pub and bar offerings in the vicinity of the University of Melbourne, which had previously been largely dominated by actual “dives”. The American barbecue experiment was clearly a success as in 2014 the Beaufort moved to having ribs permanently on the menu, via Ike’s Rack Shack which now smokes meat seven days a week out of the back of the bar...
