Chick In’s Korean fried chicken was delicious; the batter was not too thick and the sauces and marinades were generous. We had shoestring chips on the side as well as typical Korean pickled vege. The venue was small, but cosy nevertheless, and service was good. Overall, I was a fan of their fried chicken; better than nene’s but not quite pelicana’s level.

A small but cosy restaurant tucked away into a laneway making it easy to miss. With a lot of Korean fried chicken places available, it's hard to stand out and unfortunately this place doesn't. Food was good but nothing special or enough for me to return or recommend. Pricing is fair and as well as serving size.
M. K.
Very nice KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) when mixed with sauces. Chicken are moist. Both soy and spicy sauces are with sweetness. I can order different sauces on a whole chicken without additional cost, which is the best. Food menu is with average price. This restaurant only have long tables, which suitable for large groups. This restaurant is hidden inside a very narrow laneway, easier to get there via Collins St. It is very convenient by public transport, located just next to train station. Car parking available nearby.

Chickin great little establishment up a small alley just near Southern Cross serving delicious yummy rice cakes & Korean chicken. Worth while popping in during lunch break.
I. P.
This hole-in-the-wall establishment is gem! Tucked in a small alley near southern cross, chick-in serves great korean fried chicken. The chicken ribs are great, and I love how they throw in crispy tteokbokki in the max. And the ladies who run the place are the best, super nice.
Y. Z.
Very nice little cosy KFC restaurant :)
We came at around 5:30pm on Friday and it was still quite. We ordered the kimchi pancake and the Gang Jung, which came onto our table rather quickly. When ordering, my mum said that she can't tolerate salty stuff so the owner very nicely made sure that they didn't even season the fried chicken. Super nice of them! And they also provided me (who has a normal palate) with extra seasoning on the side. I personally find the pancake super delicious - probably the best I've had so far! I will definitely come back :)

Uber-eats this place now!
1/2 Chicken + Spicy Chicken Ribs With Chips 😍
Amazing Korean fried chicken (KFC). The chicken ribs is a must re-order, each bite is filled with juices leaving you to crave for more. The portions where on point, this was a meal for two (couple), we didn't finish. All the points go to the KFC really. Haven't tried the other items on the menu, but this place has already left a good impression.
Presentation and the chips could be improved though. The chips where a little dry (might be because it was a delivery) and the slaw they gave us would be better if it was in a seperate container because as you can see, by the time we opened the package of 1/2 KFC, it was all mushy and warm (we didn't really eat any of the slaw).
A. D.
Amazing menu. Tried almost all dishes. Gang Jung, the hottest chicken and chicken wings are my favorite one. Dishes will be served with either chips or rice. Really good food.
J.
Absolutely love the food here!
It’s right across Southern Cross station, it’s in one of those alley ways, can be a little tricky to find but this place is a hidden gem
It’s a tiny place and can feel a little crammed up BUT the food makes up for it! I’ve been here twice already. Their fried chicken is yumm. Also tried their Ramen which was so so good! These guys also have some budget friendly lunch options.
The staff is friendly and service was quick!
M. b. H.
Korean fried chicken cravings had us headed for Chick-in, and those cravings were satisfied! We had the Gang Jung with the Kimchi Fries, and the Charcoal Burger. The chicken and kimchi fries were spot on, the same can't be said for the burger though, this was a bit of a let down. However if you're after fried chicken then you definitely need to check this place out! Really cool atmosphere and banging tunes, will have us coming back for more!

Very good food. Some are modern twists on classics like the bibimbap but everything was tasty and well prepared
K. (.
Incredible food! Best chicken we have ever tasted. We had the soy and hot wings. Service was amazing and in a cute little alley hidden away.
H. S.
Cosy place hidden in an alleyway. Delicious chicken. Food is served pretty promptly and staff are very friendly and attentive. Would go back again! (Hottest chicken should be more spicier though)
I. S. P.
This is an awesome place. Every food is fatastic. Especially the kimchi fries were so good. This food is only sold from this shop. You should try it when you see chick in.
K. W. T.
Ordered a jungsik of soy wings and drumlets at $15. Came with 3 wings and 2 drumlets, 1 salad, 1 dumpling, 1 miso soup, 1 rice and some kimchi. Chicken was really good and the soy sauce made it tastier which makes this flavour one of the popular flavour here. Portion was decent but I thought it would be nicer if they could have given one or two more pieces of chicken. Atmosphere was cosy and it wasn’t very crowded when I went on Thursday 1pm. Service was prompt and staffs were pretty friendly.
N.
Beautiful meal. Had the small fried soy chicken, it was a big plate and most likely the best chicken I have ever eaten, great service also. Down a little alley way so was a little hard to find. Highly recommend trying them out, the meals were very cheap 👍
H.
Nice little gem in the city. My 2nd night eating here and ordering the same. I had Gang Jung soy yesterday then The spicy one tonight. Im not sure if its my taste buds or they serve me the soy one again. Its not spicy at all. Its so good didnt bother complaining. Lol
Friendly and beautiful ladies will greet and take your order. 🙂
A. N.
Great vibes, good chicken and drinks. Well priced as well. Bit of a hidden gem.
P. W.
Good lunch place, but go early if you want to try the schnitzel burger - sells out fast
P. K.
Fantastic Korean fried chicken. Been coming here regularly for several years and food is always consistently good. Only small, but usually not too hard to get a seat.
L. Y.
Delicious! (Just way too much Mayo and dressing on the coleslaw/side salad)
A. P.
The kimchi fries were amazing. The spicy Gang Jung was very tasty.
D. B.
Good place for a generous lunch, found it on Liven and have become a regular now, the chicken comes with a good serve of carbs and Korean veg for a balanced meal
T. K.
It’s a good option for lunch especially if you like fried chicken. :)
d. m.
It's not the best located place, the lane it's in is not one of Melbourne's finest. But do not let that put you off, the food here is worth it. We found this place after trying to take a shortcut to another restaurant and it was a very happy accident indeed, admittedly it was fairly late at night so we were one of only a handful of people in the place but our service was standout delightful. The lady who looked after us was friendly without being weird, helpful without being pushy and speedy without looking flustered.
M. D.
Good food at a decent price. Could be considered a health risk :)
S. M.
Incredible place. The chicken is phenomenal; the cheese was delicious; and the squid was a privilege. Great service too.
J.
Love the Kimchi fries! Partner and I have been here a few times now and is always the same quality
O. K.
Consistently great food! Is a common lunch spot for me and fellow colleagues.
M. L.
What I love most about Chick-In is they take the traditional Korean fried chicken and make it unique. Their lunch menus are fantastic with a wide variety of unique meals taking the best from different Korean dishes.
The latest favourite of mine is the chicken, rice, Miso soup and kimchi combo. For $15 it's a steal.
J. L.
Had some difficulty finding the place, it was hidden away in an alley but the food was delicious. It's a lot of fried food but it's not as heavy as you'd expect. Probably some of the best wedges have had, so light and fluffy! It wasn't very busy (but I was there close to closing on a Thursday). Can't wait to come back to show my friends this place.
H. P.
Best Korean restaurant in Melbourne, comfy, cozy and little bit hidden. Definitely the best pace if you want to have à Korean dinner !
The soy garlic friend chicken is amazing, the rice cake seafood too !
D. P.
Nice little hidden-away joint with good chicken. Not too flash, but a good spot to catch up with an old friend. Good for a quick meal alone, or a small group of friends. I'd recommend the fried chicken with a pear drink!
S. J.
Chick-In is yet another restaurant to cash in on the recent Korean fried chicken trend. Unfortunately, their fried chicken doesn't compare to some of their competitors. However, if you do find yourself here, I recommend their fries. The accompanying sauces and toppings make for some very tasty chips.
P. M.
Chick-in is such a wonderfully cosy place with sensational food that leaves you satisfied and longing for more! The staff there are so helpful and make you feel very welcome. I really do enjoy this place for great Korean food. Great work guys :)!
I. N.
Visited this tiny bar/eatery a late Wednesday night for some post-gym protein. The chicken was perfect; moist on the inside and crispy on the outside, even when doused with yummy sticky sauce. Music selection was also excellent- nice chilled-out hip hop to relax after a long day's work. The dining area was small and pokey, and we were sat next to some restaurant supplies; just adding to its hole-in-the-wall charm ;p Consistently superior chicken to Nene chicken(hit and miss) or Gami chicken(dry and salty). definitely would return
H. S. C.
Like many other venues in Melbourne, they have different menus for lunch crowd and for dinner. The chicken wings were crispy and not overcooked, the salad was plain but considering the amount of sauce on the chicken that wasn't a bad thing. Only gripe were the shoestring fries which were overcooked, and personally I prefer chunky fries.
K. H.
Kimchi fries so good 🙂 Friendly staff.
K. A.
This place is amazing!!! The chicken is fantastic, and the kimchi fries are to die for!!! It's also really affordable, have had a huge meal there and it only cost $20 each.
Everyone I have taken there has been back again.
M. M. H.
Serves good food, but the cashier/waitress who works there on Friday afternoons is quite rude and abrupt. We've encountered her twice and on both occasions she wasn't a delight to deal with. In our recent visit, she insisted in a pushy way we'd ordered something that we hadn't. Lucky the other customer picked up on the confusion and settled the issue. We didn't get any apology. I don't think it's a cultural thing as I understand and accept cultural differences and know when people are just not nice. Also, the other people who work there are alright. Please talk to her about it. Thanks!
P. S.
Quick service, good quantity, affordable price, tasty chicken..what else ?! :)
B. K.
Hidden away in his little lame way you will find a Korean treasure. Severing delicious Korean dishes. Great lunch menu at very attractive prices. Gotta try the Pork Bulgogi; nice and spicy
P. G.
Small, cosy place tucked inside one of Melbourne’s laneways. You’ll happen upon this place unexpectedly but expect sumptuous dishes that’ll have your mouth watering the second the food arrives to the table. Great selection of Korean fried chicken made in all sorts of ways. Bring an empty stomach and a decent appetite! You’ll need it!
O. M.
Fantastic kimchi fries, soy chicken, and home made lemonade! The place is easy to miss as the entrance is a bit hidden. To find it, go into a small street connecting Francis and Collins St.
N. W.
You never let me down chick-in. Only the yummiest Korean fried chicken in town. I'll travel from the burbs late into the night if I have to. great place to have a nice drink too when it's quiet. one of my fav places ever!
j. c.
The best Korean restaurant I've been to, and I've been to a lot! The food there is fantastic, definitely recommend the Kimchi Fries! Service was really nice and its in a great location whilst being hidden away so it's one of those places you go if you know where to find it, so find it!
M. S.
I love this humble joint.... its a nice ambiance with friendly staff and affordable delicious food!!! My wife and I can't get enough of their spicy fried chicken... we come here almost every week or every chance we get.....
T. S.
Being tucked away down a small laneway makes this hole-in-the-wall eatery just that little bit cosier. Nice food and good beer plus friendly staff make for a pretty decent dining experience. There was this one thing on the menu, some sort of cheese corn alchemy that was clearly the work of some kind of black magic as nothing so seemingly bland could ever be so delicious. Heresy! Clearly the delightful macaroni-and-cheese-like corn substance was produced by a deal with some woodland nymph who must've stolen the recipe from the gods. The gods, I say! It must be what heroes feast upon in Valhalla. One gripe though, the "spicy" sauce wasn't very spicy, but that's subjective, I'm sure. Also, really good price.
T. J.
Down an ally way, has a really good atmosphere. Service was great, the chicken was pretty standard, not as good as other KFC places like ABC or Buza. It was fresh atleast.
S. M.
Best meal on our whole trip away, lots to choose from & reasonably priced. one knows its good when those of the nationality of the restaurant eat there as well. would return next time i'm in Melbourne for sure
T. T.
I ordered avocado bibimbap and the dish was not like a traditional bibimbap at all. It's simply avocada plus some green salad and rice. Whist my food still tasted good, I gave this restaurant 4/5 due to misleading dish-naming.
W. N.
Solid fried chicken lunches that hits the spot!
L. S.
Gang jung is so amazing. I love that they put potato wedges and rice cakes altogether. My top pick when it comes to Korean fried chicken 👌🏻
N. S.
Kimchi fries and deep fried chicken were amazing, beautifully moist and flavoursome. Some good local craft beer on tap too.
K. S.
The chicken was tasty but not very spicy it’s a really good price for what you get in the lunch deal.
B. H.
Big servings of fried chicken sweet or savory sauces.
Nothing fancy! Just great fried chicken.
Best go in groups of 3-4 and order two large plates of chicken!
K. S.
Melbourne's best kept secret when it comes to great asian chicken dishes. Great for drinks as well. Once you know where to find it you always will.
Z. D.
The food is very good. However they are understaffed to manage the lunchtime load. Nowadays it can take 20 mins to get the food and it has happened before that they simply forgot the order (waited patiently for 40 mins...)
D. U.
Wonderful Korean fried chicken and beer in a super cool shop with fantastic staff down an alley way. They are also open more than anything around that corner of town.
B. N.
What a hidden gem; love this place! Amazing KFC and very good prices. Staff are friendly.
C. B.
Specialties include soy/spicy boneless chicken and kimchi pancakes. It's a small place so you'll likely be next to strangers on one of their bench tables. Lighting of the area reminiscent of bladerunner.
성.
Service was good. The foods were so nice. Especially the kimchi fries was the best. Definitely I will come back.
V.
Menu used to be limited, but now too many options and at the same time look expensive too. But fried chicken with soy sauce are just too good here.
L. B.
The best Korean food I've ever tried, I keep coming back over and over every time I have a chance. The portions are immense.
D. L.
Tried their fried chicken with rice. It was okay. Supposed to come with soup but till the end there was no soup. And kimchi.
J. C.
Delicious chicken. Soju Mojito jug is good too (get about 2 standard drinks from a jug) Well worth a visit!
S. H. k.
I highly recommend kimchi fry, but only for dine in! It’s so different from any other dishes from other Korean venues.
L. H.
The best Korean food in Melbs CBD, fantastic food every time we go
N. N.
The best deep fried chicken we have ever had, the salad is amazing. Will come back.

Fried chicken and beer on a budget, lovely staff, cool tunes, Brunswick brewed beer on tap. Nicer when it's the manager's day off.
R. W.
Have been coming here since they opened and is a long time favourite lunch place, it's gotten very popular which is great to see.
M. N. (.
Forget all those chain Koran chicken places , this is the place to get the best . Make sure you order kimchi fries !
S. C.
Rival abc KFC tucked away in a lane. I am just weak against KFC. They are just too good. Have it with a beer and you don't have to fly yo Korea.
L. S.
Amazing restaurant with phenomenal food for a great price. I am always happy to duck in for some chick in!
