Great atmosphere and amazing customer service, almost perfect for a mixed group of dietary needs. We got whole fish, oysters, muscles and nearly all the veg options, which of were almost all vegan, which was great. If they added a veg main and more gluten free options it would be perfect!

Love this gem and the vibe . Casual seafood place with happy staff to serve you. We ordered lots of seafood. Chili mussel is a must and the claypot spaghetti was yummy. But the grilled king prawn and squid kind of overly cooked. The meat is rather chewy. We have great house white wine recommendations and value for money. The abalone is average and enjoy the oyster so much ! Natural tasted great than the baked one! Lovely waiter and waitress !

If you are a seafood lover, this restaurant offers variety of seafood dishes. We ordered their special fish tacos, seafood spaghetti, and seafood claypot. They were all great and we were happy with our orders. Will come back again next time to try more dishes.

It is difficult finding a good seafood banquet in Melbourne, but choosing your own plates here and essentially designing it yourself is the next best thing! Every fish meal was amazing (except ironically the claypot) and I had a great time there for my birthday dinner! Despite booking, getting a table was difficult and the staff were inattentive bringing my rating down a bit.

Stumbled upon this little gem as we were walking down Hardware Lane. Absolutely glad we decided to walk in. The food was full of Flavour, seafood was fresh and portions were grate for sharing. We ordered anchovies with caramelized onions on toast and it was just so delicious. For mains we shared a whole flounder that came with chimichurri salsa, sautéed mixed greens and harissa rice again enjoyed every bite. Will definitely be back with the family. If you’re in the city you have to give it a go-finally a restaurant worth eating at on Hardware Lane!

A lovely lunch today was experienced at Claypots Barbarossa. Very tasty sardines. King Fish that melts in the mouth. Sweet flavoured scallops and a clam chowder and lamb with a lovely hint of spice. The service from staff was fantastic.

Claypots doesn't look like much but it's much loved by many people I know so I finally gave it a try. It surpassed expectations - my meal was one of the bes that I've had in a while. They specialise in seafood-heavy Mediterranean cuisine but there are plenty of vegetarian options, all of which harness that salty, sour flavour profile that I love. I opted to share the pasta puttanesca for my main, which was a huge serve and simple but delicious. Alongside, I got the grilled haloumi which came marinated in a spicy lemon sauce with bread, the Turkish eggplant topped with caponata and served on a bed of garlic oil, and the perfectly hearty and tart crushed potatoes in black garlic oil and sherry vinegar. Everything was super flavoured but not over the top and paired wonderfully. The service was also great. My only criticism is that I wish the food was a bit less oily, but otherwise I loved it all.

I had such a delicious meal with friends here last night. It was so great to be back in the city! We sat outside and was warm enough with the heaters on. There's such a great variety of seafood and vegetarian dishes. Everything was so tasty! Standouts for us were the eggplant, halloumi, ceviche (this version made with coconut milk), sardines, seafood spaghetti and fried school prawns. Nice range of wines too for all budgets. They also have Czech budvar beer on tap! Service was friendly and cost is very reasonable for a seafood feast. Come in a group so you can try more dishes!

Cosy little southern Mediterranean place. Felt like dinning in a continental deli. I dug it. Had the chargrilled octopus, a grilled king prawn and the crab & mussels share plate with a carafe of sangria The octopus and grilled king prawn were fantastic. Espacially the king prawn. The only fault with the experience was the sauce for the crab and mussels was slightly overcooked and a tad bitter... Otherwise it was a great dinning experience all in all. If you dig seafood and Berber vibes, then I'd thoroughly recommend goving this place a shot.

Lovely seafood place with a very friendly German waitress. My friend was unsure which wine to pick and so the waitress offered her various different glasses to try, all with a big smile on her face which made us feel very welcome. I'd come back for the Turkish aubergine dish. So deliciously addictive. Chilli crab with mussels has South East Asian twist. This is a Seafood restaurant with fusion flavours. The only down side was they have overcooked the octopus skewer. It was tough & rubbery to chew 😅 Overall still a lively and lovely place for pescetarian and seafood lovers.

Vibes of this place is great for a Friday evening..enjoyed the dishes dishes especially the ones posted in here..the wife ordered the Moroccan claypot cous cous with seafood, and that just wasn't up to the mark..the best was the small plate stingray and the barramundi wings..the flavours of the poached pear was so smooth to the tongue with a dash of the sour creamish thing and crumbled shortbread, I guess, which complimented the whole dish very well..

I've been here a few times now and I'm starting to think it's my favourite restaurant in Melbourne. The free tapas on weeknights are always so delicious and generous, and the quality of food is incredible. The prices are a little bit higher than what I'd be prepared to pay elsewhere, but since I only cone when there's free tapas, it's still really good value. The king prawn with garlic was to my wife and I am exceptionally outstanding dish. The atmosphere is really lovely as well, with a genuinely rustic feel that it's natural and not contrived. This is a lovely restaurant!

Among the many cafes along Hardware Lane, Claypots Barbarossa could be easily overlooked but if you like seafood you should definitely seek it out. Really liked the understated decor and split level. Very unassuming. The food, however, is packed with flavour. Tried the school prawns, grilled vegetables and Moroccan claypot, each perfectly spiced and delicious to the last bite.

With Covid ruining peoples love of travelling you don't have go without your favourite European dishes. Tonight Claypots Barbarossa took me to a little seaside village in Cinque Terre, Italy. A quaint pub next to Loch Ness in Scotland and a roof top resturant in Athens Greece. I started with the Clam and smoked ham chowder which had the right amount of smokeyness and seafood flavour reminiscent of one l tasted in Scotland in a little pub with fireplace blazing. Then the Seared halloumi cheese with minted oil. The garlic , oil and mint with the halloumi and bread were the perfect combination that took me to a nightime view of the lit Acropolis. Put my favourite journey of the night was too the little seaside town of Monterosso , Cinque Terre , Italy. The claypots Puttenesca took me straight back there. The oil, the garlic, the chilli, the tomatoes, the anchovies and the pasta. The best Puttenesca I've had since that time in Italy in 2010. And trust me lve had a lot since then. The food at Claypots , in my humble opinion is to die for. And the attention you receive from the staff is second to none. They really made me feel like they valued my opinion on the food. If l lived in Melbourne this would be my number 1 go to resturant. I highly recommend Claypots Barbarossa

Food was so flavoursome! The prices were very reasonable for the portion sizes you get. They don’t go stingy on the seafood. You get what you pay for here. A satisfying and comfortable seafood meal for two will cost you approximately $80-$100 and that’s for two big eaters as well. Will definitely be going back.

My partner and I ordered the chilli prawn each for an entree his came out and my son & his fiance came after 10 minutes my main came and I explained I was still waiting on my entree little did we realize they had served up our entree together so I missed out. Based on various reviews, I was intentionally going to this restaurant for dinner, but I got quite impressed how they attract customers. During happy hour they offer free buffet with any ordered drink. I have to say that the buffet was pretty good, and all the dishes were quite tasty. Even though I ate their buffet food with my pint of beer, I also ordered a main course and so did my friends. My ordered swordfish was probably the best tasting swordfish I have ever had. The service was also excellent. I can definitely recommend this place. Two thumbs up!!!

We loved our late lunch at Claypots Barbarossa! It's a seafood restaurant but they actually have many delicious vegan options available. We tried the Chilli Bread, Crushed Potatoes, Roasted Eggplant, Lentil Soup, and the Barbarossa Salad. Such a tasty Mediterranean spread! My favourite was definitely the Eggplant, but it was all so flavoursome. They also have live music on certain evenings, such a great atmosphere. You'll definitely enjoy your experience here!

Had dinner here on a Thursday night at around 6pm. It was quiet to start with but by 7pm it was nearly full. We ordered the morrocon claypot with eggplant, the North African lamb, the school prawns and seared fish. I really liked the lamb, it was very dense and hearty. Similarly the claypot was good, very dense and lots of muscles. I would recommend to share these dishes as they are quite heavy. House prawns were ok, but probably wouldn't order that dish again. Between 5.30-6.30pm, if you buy a drink you can get complementary tapas within that time frame. Service was ok, and all food came out together which was good. There was live music which was nice, it wasn't too loud but it can get a bit noisy if you are sitting downstairs. It was raining outside so the band was playing inside.

Had to bend over so low to eat, might as well have used the floor as a table. My back is still recovering. Food excellent. Unfortunately service a little different. The waitress got our order wrong. Everyone makes mistakes so we were fine but the other waiter was trying to get us to keep order with out even an apology. The dish we ordered was done completely differently and a 3rd of the price. When i suggested we could keep the dish then but pay for what we ordered he ssid ok but was quite unfriendly. I felt quite uncomfortable and we finished our meal and went somewhere else for another drink...what a shame. I felt like by e didn't believe us

We dined at Claypots Barbarossa in hardware lane for lunch initially on Wednesday 3rd Jan . Our food was delicious and the service from the lady was most welcoming ,friendly and helpful with advice on dishes and wines.It was so good we decided to go again for dinner the following night Thursday 4th. The food was delicious once again ... thanks chef for your suggestions on trying different dishes👍....but unfortunately our service was woefull. We arrived at appertivo hour and ordered a spritz and a sangria and told the girl looking after us that we had returned after our first enjoyable visit .The young girl on service at the time may not have or may well have been experienced.... I cannot confirm this but she shouldn’t have been on front of house in our experience. Unwelcoming ,uninterested and not friendly with little or no converse with us or other diners as they arrived . We dined for at least 2 hours in the end and enjoyed the food and wine enormously. And even as I stood there and payed the bill with the girl I thought we may have got a thank you at least for dining. No converse at all. Not a good lasting thought as you arrive and depart. So I guess I can say the food and chefs dishes were incredible...potentially the freshest seafood in Melbourne we have found. And 50/50 on service over two visits. Regardless we will go again next time we visit and recommend to others.

The lobster tail, grilled Calamari and sambal mussel and $1 doller oyster, I cant say how delicious it is. Today they had Italian live music and atmosphere with outside light. It took me to straight way back to Europe. I m loving it.
