DESSERT DONE RIGHT 🍨🍨🍨🍨
I was feeling like a fatty so some dessert post dinner was due.
They were super busy , but we still got served fast which is nice.
Loud and busy atmosphere depends on the day and time though.
Ordering done at the counter for efficiency. It definitely works.
Food came out fast. Sub 5 minutes.
Presentation was nice. Food was very tasty. Shaved ice as good as its going to get in Melbourne. We ordered the mango and strawberries. Its far better in south east asia though.
The menu is big and they offer hot and cold.
Fairly reasonably priced. 15$ each
Overall we were in n out in 30 minutes. Pretty solid effort considering how busy they were.
Easy to find.
Hard to get parking - city
Would recommend and definitely return.

Came here with a friend on 1/1/2022 10:15pm
Reading past reviews, it seems like this place is a hit and miss. I'm pleased to say that it was a hit for me!
Staff were courteous and friendly. Dessert was good. The order came within 60 seconds of ordering!
My only criticism is that my friend's order (no. 31 on the menu) had too many pearls. The taro was yum.
My order (no. 52 on the menu) with tofu and pearls was quite nice. Though, I would have preferred grass jelly instead of pearls.
I would visit again!
K. T.
my go to asian dessert place! always coming back and satisfied when i leave. it can be very chilly in there with the A/C so make sure to bring a jacket/cardigan.
Y. V.
We went for a shaved Ice dessert and a mango smoothie. It has a variety of flavours and options and all of the products are very affordable 👌. The staff was fantastic and friendly. Highly recommended for a inexpensive treat
P. S.
The strawberry bingsu is very yummy. Fast service and they can be quite busy at times.
D. L.
I’ve been going to Dessert Story for many years and have rarely been disappointed! They offer a range of Chinese desserts and snacks, all of which are tasty and of good quality. In winter months I prefer the warm desserts such as the glutinous rice balls in ginger soup.
A. D.
The coconut sago pudding was a bit too watery and the taro milk tea was lacking taro flavour. However, for the cheap price, they were still somewhat enjoyable. Not sure if I'd visit again but staff there were friendly.
J. O.
Extremely friendly staff and service was suprisingly quick! I loved the black sticky rice with coconut jelly, coconut milk and ice cream - it was so delicious and cheap! Would definitely return in a heartbeat
B. Z.
Refreshing and flavourful iced coffee. I love their watermelon grass jelly. Definitely worth trying out for a nice desert after lunch.
E. K.
One of the oldest dessert shop in Chinatown serving Taiwanese and Hong Kong style dessert. Large selections and tasted great too. However they really need to re-print their menu because it's so old and half destroyed. Prepare to queue on the weekend.

Oh yum. This is a lovely place to go for dessert or for dessert instead of mains. Delicious food fast, friendly service. We recommend you share meals
E. E.
So yummy. Visited this place late one night to eat dessert. It waz everything I had expected from a dessert house. They had beans, drinks, mango and sago. Good sized portions and very reasonable prices. Atmosphere was very family orientated, I would bring my kids here. Hard to find a park on China Town so maybe park and walk here. I gave it 5 stars. I recommend.
J. C.
The dessert is good and they have a large variety, the shaved ice is quite big so 2-3 people can share one.
A. H.
Good service! And pretty lots of variety of desserts. We have the ice snow peanut sesame one and it was good! Something different
D. N.
I love this asian dessert place. The desserts are very affordable compared to other asian dessert places and they taste great too.
The mango snow ice was so refreshing in hot days. And i’d recommend asking for less sugar in the grass jelly dessert if you’re not to keen on really sweet stuff.
Plus they are quite generous with the toppings!
C. H.
A really nice place for some Taiwanese dessert with cheap price in Melbourne. It tastes really alike the one i had before in Asia. My favourite one is 21 $6.9with taro ball n grass jelly !!!!had it once a week .
D. S.
Being so close to Maxim's Cakes nearby, you'd think it wouldn't do a good trade, but this place is often very busy and well patronaged by people from all walks of life. Although small, you can eat in or order takeaway, the desserts here are varied and delicious. My friend had a mango snow ice and I had a popping pearl mango. The shaved drinks are certainly popular as two people ordered before me and three after. Reasonably priced considering it's right in the middle of Chinatown.
Not a fan of the decor but I've never stayed and eaten in, always have takeaway. Good place to visit after a meal and have the dessert here. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly.
V. W.
There were so many dessert options it was hard to choose. The price point for the food provided was amazing, really good value for money. Great tasting dessert and always packed with people. Its a great place to go for a great date night at a budget price.
A. N.
Busy place with average service. Tried the mango sago with green tea ice cream - nothing spectacular. My ice-cream had a piece of plastic in it from the tub, super unimpressed
H. M. T.
The place is nicely decorated bringing me the feeling of staying at real dessert place in Hong Kong. I came there around 4 pm in a hot day and it was a shame that the restaurant staff pointed at the menu and told us that they didn't even have the snow series. However the series herbal jelly desserts were extraordinary with a little bitterness of herbal jelly neutralised by the sweet and creamy coconut milk. It's a must-try dish if you want to fully experience Hongkong cuisine
L. G.
If you love macha ice cream, mango and coconut milk, it is a perfect blend. Recommended. Good location at little burke st and quick service.
C.
Generous portions of bingsu and very flavourful! They have many options to choose from. It gets very busy at night so there is quite a wait.
F. (.
Ordered Tofu pudding and its good! Other items on the menus have not tried it but will be back. The place is nice and cozy located at the Chinatown area in Melbourne.
T.
If you appreciate Taiwanese and Hong Kong style desserts, dessert story got you covered.
It’s not over priced and hit the spot.
A. J.
I really like the desserts, but the place is really worn down, which makes the experience a bit gross. I'm not often concerned about cleanliness, but the menus looked like they'd been picked up from a dumpster last time I visited.
A.
This has become our favourite asian dessert place. We go here for dessert after dinner in the city. I love the silken tofu with anything. Delish.
The prices are cheap and the servings are generous. The desserts are sweet so I recommend you get a coffee or water instead of ordering a sweet drink.
A. G.
Awesome busy dessert shop. I had the basil seed and green tea ice cream and it was YUM. Prices are awesome and the menu is varied. Because it is so good and busy, expect it to be crammed and loud during peak hours (fri-sat evenings). You may have to wait to get a seat.
V. D.
Great value, decent desserts. More like a student hangout than restaurant, so don't set your expectations too high. Hit out regularly when dining in the city. The ice-strawberry dish is a favourite.
S. M.
It's a place you can go to anytime for dessert. The menu items are priced reasonably. All-time favorite is Crushed ice avalanche. Share it with a mate 'cause too big for yourself.
N. G.
Service was friendly. Reasonable prices. Tasty food
P. L.
A beautiful place with a lot of different dessert recipes. Definitely worth experiencing, there is something in their menu that you will like. Staff are helpful and quick and the price is not very expensive. They are normally open late as well. I will be back again! highly recommended if you are a dessert fan.
R. A. A.
Dessert Story is a Chinese dessert bar in Little Bourke Street (Chinatown), Melbourne. The dessert bar serves a variety of dessert including herbal jelly based shaved ice, herbal jelly, soy milk desserts, tang yuan (glutinous rice ball), shaved ice, etc. The price is reasonable. The ambience is average and the food tastes good. The shop is usually crowded with customers. There may be a queue from time to time. Do check me out on my instagram @roshan_arjun for more feeds. Cheers!
v. k.
Their shaved ice desserts are so good, I order them in any season.
Staff are friendly & their space is clean and snazzy.
Well priced.
J. C.
nice place for desserts, just front shop too normal . hard to find out the shop.
S. Y.
Ordered the shaved ice and the sweet glutinous rice balls. The shaved ice was decent but felt a bit overpriced, considering it was mostly just ice. The rice balls were average, tasted like any other store bought ones.
I saw the prices for other menu items were decent and they're open till late which is a plus.
S. W.
Average dessert place. Tried the speciality and was so-so. The manggo shaved ice however is quite refreshing.
G. O.
This restraunt is one of the best dessert places in Melbourne. They have many dishes that are different to anything I have tasted before. They have crushed ice, which might seem an odd dessert, but with the right flavours it has a delicate flavour that is difficult to achieve with most desserts. The bubble tea at this shop is delicious, and there are many different options on the menu to choose from. I give Dessert Story a 10/10 on variety, flavour and uniqueness.
F. G.
Used to linger around here at late night, either after dinner or after watching a theatre. The Mango shaved ice was fresh and nicely icy on the tongue. My favorite is actually the beancurd with ginger soup and glutinous rice ball with peanut paste.
E. Y.
Tofu pudding with sugar syrup (tofu fa) was good. Signature herbal soup (hot) with sweet potato and taro was were okay too. - soup is slightly bitter.
K. S.
Love this place so much! Desserts here makes me happy! 😊❤👌
S. A.
Nothing to write home about, but it hits the spot when you're in the mood for something that's slimy yet satisfying.
E. Y. L. L.
Shredded ice is better than blackball next door. Pearls and grass jelly are recommended.
Hated that these Asian places only accept cash payment
G. P.
Service could have been better..... but the food was amazing!
Q. L.
So delicious. Good balance of ingredients. Not too sweet or too much coconut milk. Lost 1 star because of old dirty restrooms. No rubbish bin in the restroom area at all. Paper towels thrown beside the sink.
b. t.
Shout out to the staff at Dessert Story who have kept my wife's bag for one week with everything inside intact when she lost it in the City!
This five star is for you, YOU LEGEND. The world definitely needs more people like you.
Food wise, dessert here is amazing. We had the HK signature dish and the crushed ice strawberry. Not too sweet and plenty of toppings like pearls, grass jelly, sweet potato/taro dumplings. Definitely worth coming back for those late night dessert cravings.
S.
The story of dessert starts like any other.
Firstly the dessert is born, bred into this beautiful mystery we call life and from life comes all the struggles of being. And so as I sat down and stared at this beautiful dessert, questioning the very nature of its story I began to eat and as I ate the more it squirmed. It was in pain I know, but I didn't care. And so I ate and ate until the dessert was no more. Good food!
J. C.
Lovely dessert in asian style, quality of menu book is horrible, could be claustrophobic in peak hours, toilet and card facilities are available.
K. M.
Interesting desserts. Good for trying once!
M. S.
Great, authentic dessert. Staff were super enthusiastic about service and the quality of service was also good. Food tasted good as well.
A. T.
Good dessert but a/c was down went we were there... So it was stuffy.
M. N.
Quite pricey for what you get. Large range of desserts. Can get quite busy
D.
Love the desserts, but can you fix the air conditioner, the restaurant is pretty warm (even in summer!!)
J. F.
Quick, easy, tasty desserts and the staff are nice.
M.
As a lover of Asian desserts, I really wanted to like this place. I ordered the signature dessert and the mango coconut sago.
The signature dish was much too sweet! Both desserts tasted ok, but were nothing special in terms of flavour. They aren’t super fresh and I wouldn’t choose to come here again.
As for the store layout, the entrance is very cramped, especially if you are waiting for a table.
Overall, I think if you have a sweet tooth and don’t mind average flavours, then the desserts here are alright. Don’t expect to be blown away, though.
J. O.
The deserts are heavenly..Everything is super fresh..The service is great..I come here for the popcorn chicken..It's the best in Melbourne..And a delicious guilty pleasure!
M. R.
Nice place with nice desserts but the interior is starting to show it’s age.
E. T.
Great desserts especially their signature shaved iced with fresh mango. It was very busy when we got there. Overall a great place to stop by for dessert. Only downside is the tables are very sticky! They weren't wiped properly, but this could've been because of how busy the staff were.
M. M.
Taste of dessert was nothing special to me.
K. R.
Adore this place. So so cheap! Can fill up nicely on a meal under $10. Very unique flavours and always such a great variety of choices. The staff are so lovely and the food comes out very quickly.
P. P.
Liked the taste and good it has unionpay for travellers. Minimum of $10 required.
L. M.
Really really high quality desserts. I ordered an awesome black sesame crushed ice dessert and enjoyed every bite.
J. E.
Lovely Taiwanese style dessert restaurant. Can't get enough of it. Love the tofu and also the black rice.
a. n.
Not a bad stop after dinner. Generous serving of ice and mango on their dessert.
민.
Love this place! I always come back here for the desserts. They have a huge variety and it tastes great as well. Not a big fan of the interior and it gets pretty loud when it's packed though.
M. V.
Yummy desserts at reasonable prices! And service is really good! Very popular place!
B. K. N. O.
I have always loved desserts that are not too sweet. Their desserts here are the bomb! I had the pudding with sago that was awesome very close to the taste of my childhood favorite street dessert! Some desserts come with either hot or cold. There are also alot of options to try on! I would definitely recommend it if you sre not really fussy about the toilet and the cleanliness. I’m not saying it’s not clean. It’s just the interior is not that too relaxing. Plus, you wouldn’t get guilty with splurging on desserts ‘coz these are very affordable.
F. M.
So yummy. Recommend the sago, tofu fa and grass jelly desserts. Very efficient and polite service.
P. L.
A very average spot. The place was spacious and well fitting but the food received no 'love'. Moments after I ordered my two dishes just as I was reaching for my number I was told that I wouldn't need it as the dishes were already on the table. They literally smashed all the ingredients into a bowl. Not asking them to be masterchef but says a little about the ingredient storage and presentation.
N. N.
Popular place and prices were rrasonable. Extensive dessert menu. The hot desserts were lukewarm though. More care could go into this.
T. B.
I love the dessert here. Its big, not too rich bowls of Asian desserts. The good thing about them is that you can slurp them up for ages and not feel bloated after because they aren't all heavy cake based things. Lots of sago and jelly and soup. Don't go there if you want to have intimate conversations though as it gets so packed youll basically end up with a chinese woman on either side of your friend.
R. W.
Best Hong Kong dessert I had in Australia! I especially like the sesame rice ball in sweet soup dessert. They said it take 20 mins but it came out within 10 mins. It was delicious!
We ordered other desserts as well and they don’t disappoint.
The waitress who served us was really good and she looked after us.
Thank you and this place is highly recommended.
Y. T.
I love the chicken popcorn. The staff usually ask if I want it spicy which is good because I quite often forgot to tell them I want it spicy.
Great taste and good value for money.
I. L.
Stumbled across it as we were looking for something sweet to finish off. Very authentic flavour of traditional Taiwanese dessert. Very nice. There is no table service but wasn't expecting any for the price you have to pay. Very lucky find
V. F.
It's located in chinatown, if you are a dessert lover you'll love this place. Hot or cold dessert, many choices to choose from, taste yummy and short waiting time. Definitely will come back here
C. H.
Solid S/E Asian desserts, great sago puddings. Nice and quiet too, usually.
T. C.
I had the Mango Sago it was quite nice. My friends had the sesame balls in syrup which was also good. The service was efficient and friendly. A little cramped but I will say the books wallpaper was a nice touch
S. S.
I absolutely love the Ice Kacang. It's the best there is and great value. I cannot wait for warm weather to eat it again.
The Ice Kacang is a mountain of shaved ice drizzled with sweet sauces boiled lentils chickpeas and peanuts.
It costs $9.90 and can feed two especially if you treat it as dessert. It's great on its own or to cool you down after a spicy meal.
H. N.
What great service. Fast and efficient
R. M.
Delicious and refreshing desserts. Shaved ice mountains are fun to share but we like the textures and freshness of sago, mango, grass jelly, pomello and popping pearls in no. 87
Dessert Story is one of our Chinatown favourites, for savoury snacks too.
F. V.
Good ice dessert, perfect for summer. Most staff were friendly and accommodating. Price is reasonable. Flavours are okay. Accepts cards but minimum of 10$ purchase
S. L.
Loved the shaved milk. Good portion for sharing.
E. B.
The desert and fired chicken was great! The service wasn't so great and I asked for a glass of water and they said no you could only buy bottled water. I had already even purchases another drink so it would be nice if they allowed people to drink tap water when they asked for it.
J. L.
Get a cool desset for a warm day or after a Chinatown meal. Shaved ice products are awesome.
P. V.
Very lively atmosphere, authentic as possible desserts in Melbourne. Teas and drinks are great, good to stop by after dinner.
Too noisy to stay and eat or drink for a long period.
Hard to get descriptions or recommendations.
M. L.
Interestingly pleasant experience.
J. N.
Favorite desert place. Signature dishes are good choices, personally love the pudding and sago with coconut jelly. Take away bubble tea is awesome too
J. L.
Most desserts were great, esp the Milk Shave Ice. Atmosphere was pretty good and the best part is it's open late.
J. C.
A place to go if you can't think of anywhere else. Desserts are not bad, but the place is a bit old and dirty, tables are sticky and service leaves something to be desired. The snow ice dessert is my go-to from the menu.
R. L.
Decent place to enjoy dessert.
T. T.
if you're not sure what to get, go for #41 the mixed bowl. it will give you the best option. i like coming here after a heavy dinner, it soothes the stomach.
J. T.
Cheap and sometimes nasty Asian desserts. Hot and cold options, bowl and drink options. Usually something to suit your taste but don't be surprised if the menu, table and floor are somewhat sticky.
J. L.
Love the dessert here.
L. H.
Prices and selection are amazing. Staff have always been nice to us and very fast. This is my favourite dessert place in Melbourne. Try the mango sago.
M. Y.
Authentic HK & Taiwanese dessert. Plenty of varieties & great place to be with friends. Must try the 'Milk Snow Ice with Mango Jelly' after a big meal!
P. E.
Love it. Great service, great price and many yummy desserts. Try to try them all but they look great.
Hong Kong and Taiwanese desserts with a Japanese interior design and Hong Kong atmosphere. Quite unique.
A. T.
Amazing authentic Taiwanese and HK desserts. The mango sago pudding is a must try. Reasonably priced as well. Would love to visit again.
J. v.
it's decent dessert, but there are many other better places now for this kind of dessert. The dishes come out really quickly, but kind of feel slapped together in an unloving way
D. V.
Large selection of desserts. Decor, furniture and menu look worn, need to update. Inflexible if you wish to change items on your order after paying.
A. N.
Nice staff and lovely place, their music playing is definitely addicted!
Crushed ice is a little bit tasteless, tofu are too sweet, overall it's ok for the price.
A. R.
Absolutely amazing selection of sweets, desserts, drinks.
S. W.
Serving size is very small compared to other branch(Box Hill), having to pay double, very tight sitting area.
A bit curse on me in this place, I always get the table to a random girl, who cannot control their gas out of their other end.
T. m.
Great selection and very fast service. You can always get a sick and the place is very clean. Decent prices for decent servings.
A. w.
Loving this place. Really nice dessert. Will go to this dessert place every time I visit Melbourne.
S. K.
Good dessert place. Had the mango sago in coconut milk, milk tea and herbal jelly, ice and taro balls (but had to ask for extra ice because it wasn't cold enough)
N. B.
Good desserts and drinks
A. C.
Great place for good tasting desserts - warm or cold, however the resturant is self looks pretty worn out with the torn seats and old marked furniture, it could use a refurbish.
M. W.
Omg so many choices!! The honey lemon tea was super yum.
L. C.
Want something different then the ice-cream or fruit salad for desert? Then have a try this place for desert, you'll be glad you've tried it.
N. J.
That iced coffee will keep you awake! Everyone else loved their Grass jelly, Sago and Sorbet.
H. T.
Cool, late night desserts :)
W. k. C.
Had the black sesame, the walnut soup, and mango pomelo sago. The soup desserts were diluted and could have been better.
t. t.
Large place. Can fit many people. Service was average.Large variety of desserts, all at reasonable prices. However, it is cash only.
O. T. J. (.
Place was busy. Dessert was okay but nothing special. Beats taking the time to make it yourself I guess.
M. K.
Good
B. A.
Amazing desserts catering principally to young asian kids. Very popular and very crowded. Fun being the only Westerner there!
S. H.
"This place has great selfie lighting" said Will
S. S. S.
It's awesome. I have tried multiple Fruit Avalanche's, they are really good. Environment is really good as well. Enjoyed it.
T. L.
Attend it today, and I can say it was delicious , worth it with 5 stars and your time.
J. P.
A bit crowded usually, but this chain is the best Taiwanese dessert chain out of all the ones in Melbourne.
B. P.
Lovely Asian deserts and strangely their Taiwanese style fried chicken is a hidden gem given it's not one of their high menu items
M. L.
Got a drink. Watermelon frappe with rainbow jelly and watermelon balls. $5.90
Girl staffer was super nice, male staffer was really rude.
A. M.
Last day in Melbourne, and decided to come to dessert story for a sweet tooth fix. Never disappointed with the menu.
D. T.
Good food and desserts, worth the price tag but Okay service

D. C.
Love the food and dessert
a. s.
Dessert was good. But this place needs renovation. It's very congested and stinky.
E. G.
Eh... Not the best Asian dessert house in town. But good for a quick sweet fix or group gathering
P. P.
Great desserts to choose from. Definitely try spicy chicken with your dessert.
N. P.
Great place and the deserts I had tasted really good. Would recommend to anyone

A. S. (.
If you are craving relatively traditional Chinese desserts, this is the place to go.
A. C.
Food is ok, staff needs to b responsive. Overall is fine

Tastes good but the edges on spoons are sharp and uncomfortable to put in mouth.
莹.
Absolutely love everything here. Came here everyday when I visited Melbourne and not once did it disappoint.

(Translated) People in Taichung said it was delicious! ! It has a Taiwanese flavor. The braised pork rice is excellent, and the braised eggs are not too dry. The Xiancao taro balls are very fragrant, with enough flavour and not fragrant. The salty crispy chicken is delicious just after being fried, it is better to eat it on the spot.
If I read the comments first, I might not walk in, but fortunately not. The service staff we met were all very nice and there was no problem.

(Translated) I tried a variety of Taiwanese desserts, but it was nice to have a taste of it.
There is no sugar in the red bean paste and red bean paste. (You can taste the unique taste of red bean paste.)
I have a complaint about black rice, but I do not like dessert ron dessert.
That black pudding looked like a messy but tasty taste.
The menus are spectacular to see ... Something desserts do not mix and play together.
I can not come to you thinking of mango ice water I ate in Taiwan.
I would rather have a better Taiwanese-style dessert shop in Swansea personally.
It's a good place to stop when you want to try something new ...

(Translated) Great food and dessert. Spicy chicken and "ice cream" dessert are recommended. But was not wow. A bit messy in the bathroom. So they should clean better. Nice man at checkout.

God mat og dessert. Spicy kylling og "isflak" dessert er å anbefale. Men var ikke wow. Litt møkkete på badet. Så de bør rengjøre bedre. Hyggelig mann i kassen.
