Comments of Din Tai Fung

Vegetarian food review: I regret not eating here earlier.it was fun to be greeted by the robot servers. The food comes fast once ordered and it is amazing quality and taste. I ordered the springrolls, the spicy wonton noodles and the tempura bao. Honestly I couldn't pick a favourite..the drinks are nice and refreshing and the tiger buns are not only cute, but also so smooth, pillowy and tasty.
M. C.
I was so looking forward to eating at this place as the one in Singapore was nice. But I was a bit disappointed. The vegetarian wanton wasn’t very nice, and the noodle soup is very bland. The spicy spinach noodle is slightly better. Sesame ice cream was the best 🍨.
We took away the vegetable buns, and they tasted average. Seems like the fillings for the wantons and buns are the same.

Wanna give 3.5 stars rather than 3.
Every foods were pretty good. Especially dumplings were very succulent. Very spacious place with good music. But the thing is the noodle and the fried rice was kinda not that hot so we had to ask to heat that up.
Every staffs were very friendly and helpful.

Everything was okay, but not great. Food was served warm. Service was good and ordering was easy with it all being done on a tablet. When ordering dessert there was the option to get it immediately or get it after the food was served, which is a nice touch. Mentioned that there was a child in our party and they had a plastic bowl and cutlery ready to go.

Booked for VIP private dining room. Food is great as usual and service was super fast. Food arrives almost instantly when ordering from the iPad.
However, I would not recommend booking the private dining room as it is lacking in decor, very poorly lit room. There is a minimum spend of $450 for this room which is fine but it was really dark in there esp for a lunch.
D. C.
I come here quite often, the food are delicious, especially the pork dumpling was so juicy. The staff are polite and friendly as well. I highly recommend this place.

This has the No. 1 spot of chinese place in Melbourne on my list.
Everything we have ordered the three times we've been here has been amazing. From dumplings to noodles, etc. A bit on the expensive side with respect to others in china town, and the portions are slightly smaller. However, I believe the dishes are so good and tasty that it is worth a try.

A great restaurant serving up some yum and creative dishes. The restaurant holds a big space and there is plenty of seating available. Staff were attentive and very friendly.
We shared 2 different types of dumplings, crispy chilli chicken, crab fried rice and the hot cross bun bao's. We enjoyed all the dishes, I particularly liked the crab fried rice as I had not tried this anywhere before and it was really delish! There was a generous portion of crab meat through the rice.
The hero has to be the hot cross bao buns, so cute and very creative. Inside the bun was filled with a rich decadent chocolate and it was really enjoyable.
Thanks for having us, we had a great time!

We took the private dining room ($500 spend), need at least 8people and it was great. We have a toddler so it gave us great freedom. Food was very good infact great. Restaurant was like every restaurant in Melbourne suffering from lack of staff and they still coped amazingly. Will go back

A popular dim sum chain from Taiwan. I’ve tried din tai fungs around the world and this one was quite average. The food quality and customer service doesn’t compare to other stores. However I think it is a fairly reliable and safe choice for a dim sum meal.

Stopped in for lunch and to try the famous xiao long bao , very well presented restaurant in a great location .
Ordering off tablets and having food bought to your table in a timely manner and as you ordered it was excellent as you don't feel rushed into ordering your food and can order drinks at any time through your meal . This makes for a relaxing dining experience that is very enjoyable .
We ordered prawn and pork fried dumplings as a starter which were cooked perfectly and very tasty with a great sauce that accompanies them .
The xiao long bao was as advertised , very tasty and once you figure out your preferred additional flavours a meal to remember.
We had pork buns after and as a personal favourite of mine I must say I was very happy with the quality and flavour of them .
Although we like to try out as many different restaurants as we can whenever we are in the city , it will be hard not to stop in at din tai fung to try the rest of the menu , seeing what other people were being served all looked delicious as well . We will definitely be back .

The xiao long bao are perfect. Juicy and delicious. Service was good. I found the other dishes such as the chilli won tons and broccoli with prawns over priced and nothing special. The atmosphere is lacking a little. If you only come for the xiao long bao then you’ll love it.
A. B.
A must visit. Almost an institution I would say. The speed and efficiency of service is excellent and zero compromise on quality. Been coming for years.
Ordered the egg fried rice, spicy veg noodle soup, xiao long bao, hot & sour soup. Everything was fantastic.
You cannot go wrong here if you are hunting for good dumplings and Chinese food.
A. R.
Great quality Xiao Long Bao dumplings, originated from Jiangsu province. Xiao Long Bao's are filled with special Pork filling which when steamed releases a yummy soup alongwith the filling. Din Tai Fung is famous for its Michelin Star dumplings. A must visit to try those yummy suckers.

The restaurant had a warm Chinese vibe for the occasion I visited. There was medium volume Lunar New Year music playing in the background which was very fitting. When you enter, you are greeted by a cute robot that guides you to your table, albeit a slow one which for safety reasons I can presume.
The tables had all the essential necessities you would require when sitting down, serviettes, cutlery and plates. There was water and clean glasses available for water dispensing, and I felt obliged to pour everyone a glass as the youngest of the group.
The food was delicious, the first two were the lobster and noodles, and the pineapple mayo prawns, which were simple a delight to the senses. The pineapple mayo prawns were sweet, but not overbearingly, with a tint of pineapple which was pleasant to the taste buds. The lobster and noodles were divine, however I was disappointed that the lobster serving sizes were smaller than what I was used to.
We also had a whole barramundi which to our surprise was boneless, and truly boneless I might add as I found no bones which added to the ease of consumption of this visually appealing and delicious dish.
The Pork Xiao Long Baos were soft and the right temperature as you loaded each one to your consumption crevice, and enjoyed it with a burst of flavour without the searing hot consequence which you get in most Chinese restaurants.
The ambience in the restaurant was pleasant, however I did notice the noise levels did increase the longer we stayed there, which may have been because it got busier, so I would not recommend coming here if you are looking for a quiet place to delight your senses.
The bathrooms were clean, however I wished that there was more room, as the urinals in the Men's room were a bit cramped, which might not be a good idea if you are prone to feeling anxious about your size.
Overall the experience was a delight, and I felt warm and welcome in the space. I would come again, however preferably during the off period as the sound frequencies in the room tend to not be ideal for people with sensory issues on a busy night.
The food was amazing, and what I'd expect from an upmarket restaurant.
B.
Always perfect like the other Din Tai Fung restaurants across the world.
l. h.
The vegetable dumpling soup is flavourless and pale. Try a Ramen place or Tim Ho Wan for flavour. The seafood dumplings were full and rich. Prawn pancake with the colourful sweet sauce were a different take. Nice.
L. C.
Wide selection of food and service is fast. You get to meet the robot waiter that takes you to your table.
F. J.
We enjoyed the dish here especially the vegetable salad as entree and prawn dumplings with noodles. The spicy noodles has a different flavour from typical Chinese noodles we have tried in the past. It is a value for money if you like eating Asian dishes. I recommend you to try the dumplings, it is an absolute pleasure.
F.
I was craving yum cha and decided to for to Din tai fung. It was great quality dumplings and xiao long bai but still craved yum cha afterwards.
Pretty pricey in my books.

GOOD QUALITY "DIM SUM" TYPE RESTAURANT IN EMPORIUM
Its large and busy and reminds you of Hong Kong. Good range of mainly Cantonese cuisine that the you order from iPad on table and then wait for it to be brought to your table (usually by a robot. It's reasonably priced and the food is quite authentic. There is often a queue waiting to get a table so best to try at an off-peak time (eg after 2 pm on weekend) if you don't like waiting :)
It is very noisy (hard wooden floors and no furnishings) so it isn't the kind of place to go for a quiet conversation!
People with mobility issues will be fine as it is all on a one even floor with direct access to lifts and escalators.
Toilets located both within the restaurant and also adjacent to the lift lobby.
D. W.
Reliable basic for yumcha if you don't want to line up. XLB is always on point
X. C.
We were pleasantly surprised when we heard DTF was in Melbourne! We planned a trip there the next day. And my oh my.... service was excellent, food standard is maintained across the globe. What !
We loved that the waiter immediately volunteered to replace 1 Xiao Long Bao (Soup Dumpling) when he opened the lid and saw that one was broken.
Fried rice was on point. Probably could do with more wok hei (breath of fire) on our rice. But it was decent enough.
Slightly more costly than what you would pay at Juicy Bao and Shanghai St. But DTF is in a class of their own. I'll gladly pay more for good food and service!
Will be back!

A perfect chinese restaurant for family. It is huge, plenty of seats, good service, friendly staffs and they work efficiently.
There is no doubt on the food. Dumplings were perfect, noodle was awesome. Very fine perfect egg noodle. This place is kids friendly with the kitchen located in the middle of the restaurant where you can see the making of the dumplings.
A. A.
One of the most delicious chilli noodles dumplings and Fried rice ever!!
So many flavours with amazing textures and it was just perfect! The service from the staff were on point and went through our requests and suggested some great dishes - which we loved!!
Chilli noodle soup & chicken dumplings - Perfect texture with great quantity. It just has the right amount of flavours and texture - 10/10 !!
Fried rice with Shrimp - perfect taste with amazing flavours again! It is just fried rice but, it tasted just delicious and amazing!!
Totally we cannot wait to be back to try other dishes!!
W. T. S. C.
We love the dumplings. We have tried many dumpling places in Melbourne CBD and this is close if not the best. The place is huge yet you may need to wait 5 minutes as it is popular, but it’s worth the wait. Although it’s busy, the service is fast and the dumplings are amazingly fresh. We will definitely be coming back and highly recommend.
L. M.
Food is good, but used to be better. Dumplings burst with soup when the restaurant first opened, now they just sort of dribble.
H. C.
Pork dumplings (Xiao Loan Bao) are delicious, the skin is thin and the filling is very juicy and full of pork soup. Must eat item. We ordered noodles in soup with deep fried chicken steak, beancurb with thousand years egg (cold dish), fried spinach with garlic. The portion is alright for two ladies and not too full. The restaurant is spacious and comfortable in design. It is a pleasant dining experience.
P.
Food was delicious! Shrimp & Pork Wonton Noodle with Spicy Sauce was great as well as the pork dumplings.
A.
Nice venue with a good vibe and lovely staff. The food was delicious and well presented. It could do with some spicy options e.g. The chilli chicken was quite bland.
Tip:
The numbering on the hard copy /paper menu is different from that on the tablet they provide for ordering.
B. M.
Open again with disposable plates and bowls. Social distancing and QR codes. Noodles and dumplings good quality. Good to go out again.
L. H.
Delicious!! Great service, really accessible, nice atmosphere. Can't wait to go back!!
It's fully wheelchair accessible with wheelchair accessible toilets.
P. E.
The food is not bad, but as I have tried the DTF in Hong Kong which is so much better. I always get the XLB in here which is always kinda tiny, their pork and veg wontons are always not very nicely wrapped. Today I ordered dried plain noodles w spinach for the kids, last time I ordered this, it has some sauce in it, this time there was no sauce or anything, just a clump of white noodles w veggies. Weird.
The drunken chicken, tofu w century egg and spicy noodle soup is the standout dishes of the day.
Desserts I ordered includes lava Bun, lava mochi, fried taro bun and mango pudding. The lava mochi is wayyyyy too sweet - I expect a balance of sweet and saltiness. Fried taro bun is a bit dry, but the mango pudding was nice.
M. K.
The very original and authentic steam bao with hot soup inside in one bite. Very thin bao skin and made with passion. Din Tai Fung is the only restaurant in Melbourne to get this quality. Loving it. Their fried rice is one of the best dish in their menu. Full of flavors. Their long beans is also very good, crunchy texture, cooked just right. They will also have special dessert with cute shape during festival season. This restaurant located inside Emporium. The fastest and direct way is to enter via little bourke. This is a huge restaurant, plenty of seats, also provide function room. Staff are very friendly too. Car parking available at this shopping center and nearby. Also convenience with public transport inside city.
S. G.
Delicious. This is the place you go to when you want proper yum cha. Some tables had tablets for you to order from. Soup dumplings are a must try but lacked a kick. Def try the Sweet and sour pork, this is wok tossed so has some great flavour. If you want real decent Chinese food, would definitely recommend that you get DTF!
J. M.
Ordered the (i) Xiao Long Bao - eight delicious morsels of juicy, hot pork soup dumplings (highly recommend), and (ii) Cha Jiang Noodle with Minced Pork - generous serving of noodles, nice but not exceptional.Friendly and efficient service (tick sheet to order then flag a staff member to give it to them). Casual service (plenty of tables available; there are baskets to put your bags/shopping nearby). Reasonable prices.Overall, a good lunch spot with efficient service. Recommend the Xiao Long Bao.
Y. W.
I found that their service was quite good and quick. People complaining about the foods are not as good as those in Taiwan which I find it's a bit unfair to them. It's worth going if you don't want to spend an air ticket going to Taiwan to try their dishes. Overall their foods are good and delicious.
A. L.
This place is different. You are taken to your table by a robot.Even some of the dishes are brought to you by the robot. The digital age has come to the restaurants.Despite being virtually hypnotised by the roving robot I did try the food (yum cha) which was of a high standard and I was more surprised by the bill which was very reasonable. Definitely worth a try if you haven't been there before.
C. M.
One of the best places for dumplings and other Taiwanese dishes. Also very family friendly. Highly recommend the Xiao Long Bao.
A. M.
Compared to my regular dumplings place, I found this one to be the same in terms of food quality, however, much more expensive and less in quantity.
We came for their signature "gems", but they were unfortunately unavailable - I know it's a bit unfair to hold this against them, but it is a bit disappointing to not be able to have the food that they're known for.
The food we did have tasted good, but portion sizes were small given their cost
Service was great and prompt, and I really liked the look of the restaurant. Overall though, for my money I'd go to a cheaper dumplings place and have a larger feed
C. S.
The handmade fresh dumplings are the best tasting thing. So juicy and delicious! We had very high expectations of this restaurant after eating at one in Singapore, and this exceeded all expectations.
M.
Even though DTF is a chain restaurant, the quality control over its bao and its attentive service never disappoints. I have been to numerous DTF in different states and countries, and the quality of its signature dish, Xiao Long Bao, is always consistently excellent - delicate skin with luscious, intensely flavorful broth in a beautifully pleated pocket.
The skin of the Cha Siew Bao (BBQ Pork bun) is smooth and not fluffy and cracked open like Hong Kong style dim sum, but its filling is full of sweet and meaty BBQ pork flavor. Other favorites include the Vegetarian dumpling with its surprised tofu filling, and the pillowy soft lava bun.
S. H.
1. It was AMAZING that there is a direct access to the restaurant via lift at the corner of Little Bourke Street and Caledonian Lane.
2. It was a DISAPPOINTMENT that when we arrived, there was not one table labeled 'reserved' for us. They just appointed a random table to us like we were walk-ins. What's the point of booking ahead then?
3. I'm from Taiwan and I was DISAPPOINTED that Din Tai Fung Melbourne didn't have their signature eight-treasure rice pudding.
4. Their chili oil is AMAZING. We bought a jar to take home.
5. Fried rice with crab was GREAT.
6. Xiao long baos were GOOD AS EXPECTED.
7. It was a DISAPPOINTMENT that they had beers from Japan, Australia and China, but not Taiwan.
B. S.
This place is ok. It's not brilliant, it's not bad. It's a name, it's a lovely setting but for the price you are paying the flavour is only ok. In a street brimming with quality Asian food you can get better bang for buck elsewhere.
C. Z.
Love the place! We were looking forwarded to eat at Din Tai Fung again. Last time it was in Singapore, and we missed it so much. Because we don’t have this in Perth! The bao is so juicy! Highly recommended!
A.
Who doesn't love this place? Quick service! Great food... Can't go past the xiao long bao, shredded pork fried rice and pretty much any of the noodle dishes.
The dessert ox buns (chocolate) are a great temporary addition to the menu
P. C.
Went here around 12:30 on Friday, not busy like before, the food is okay, but the Sydney branch is better, the best one is still in Taipei.
A few new staffs here that doesn't pay attention to customers, had a pork noodle with spinach, but there was a coloured short hair in it. Staff doesn't know what to do, the manager offer to replace but already had enough can't eat another set. So they write off the noodle from the bill, which should be a standard and good restaurant is up to.
Overall good experience but they should really watch out for details in food, whether it's delivering or preparing.
j. w.
Been to the one in Hong Kong so decided to give the Melbourne one a try. Pork dumplings were very tasty and the spicy noodles were VERY spicy but nice. However, if you are visiting first time like me be aware of how to get there. It's based inside a shopping mall but it wasn't that straight forward. Mall directory says it's on the 4th floor BUT if you took the escalators in the centre it takes you all the way to Myers!! You need to access there via a separate escalator further back from the 3rd floor!
P. T.
Wonton time...enjoyed every thing we ordered and the spicy shrimp and pork wontons were the best show stopper...yummo get in my belly
C. Y.
Very good authentic Taiwanese dish. None of them disappointed me at all! My partner was very impressed with the kung pao tofu and beef fried rice. Xiao long bao is good as usual as their signature. Crispy fried prawn with mayo and pineapple sauce is also a must try if you want a taste of Taiwanese dish.
E. Y. L. L.
Known for their soup dumpling and recommended with you sauce and ginger. Noodles are quite nice here, especially their beef noodle soup. Had a baby with us but the staff were friendly and willing to assist.
Overall value 4 stars
H. V.
This is where they serve the best Xiao Long Bao in town, and all other dumplings as well. Lava Bao is another favourite of mine, so good.
It’s a bit of wait for tables since this place is super busy. However after you are seated, food come out pretty quick. Friendly and attentive staff.
L. R.
Great place to bring extended family and kids of all ages. Very well organised, plenty of food options. The service is really fast, good value for money and the food is ok.
H. B.
Amazing dumpling place. We kept coming back during our visit. Service is quick but doesn’t feel like fast food at all. Dumplings are prepared in front of you, everything’s very fresh and delicious.
R. M.
After eating at four different Din Tai Fung in Singapore, sadly a little disappointed with the menu here. (No Lemongrass Juice or Duck Pancakes to name a couple.) Pork Chop and Egg Rice beautiful as ever, but missing details like the ability to buy Din Tai Fung Chilli Oil. Wish menu was consistent worldwide...but that said the chicken and prawn dumplings were delish. (Whenever anyone is in SG...try a Din Tai Fung there...AMAZING HUGE menu!!)
R. D.
A fantastic experience from the moment you enter. The dumplings are simply some of best I have ever had with a huge selection and authentic flavours makes it a place worth visiting.
J. S.
The crispy pork Bao was extremely disappointing due to the lack of crispy pork belly but everything else we ordered definitely made up for it!
S. a. Q.
Every time I go to Din Tai Fung it’s always good.
Although you have to wait a little bit it’s understandable since it’s busy.
The decor is beautiful, there’s a large glass widow throughout most the establishment which makes it very open and refreshing.
The waitresses are very kind, patient and helpful.
The cost could be cheaper but since there are a lot of staff and it’s in the middle of the emporium it’s understandable. (Around the $8 mark for each dish so it’s pretty reasonable)
There’s a large variety of foods to choose from. I usually get Kung Pao Chicken and prawn fried rice which I must recommend you try. If you’re a boba tea person (like me) they sell great bubble tea.
Definitely coming back for more. =)
D. E.
We had the fried rice with chicken, xiao lung pao, shio may and the chilli dumplings. They were all very good! The highlight was the fried rice and xiao lung pao. Service was quick and good, no fuss. Would definitely go back.
T.
Good Xiao long bao.
Other dishes are good too, especially the ones on the recommended list.
These days there's no need to wait two hours like it was when it first opened.
Great service and prices are reasonable.
L. L.
Best pork dumpling (xiao long bao). Been here numerous times, their pork dumpling is always consistently tasty, never let me down. Their noodles , fried rice were great too.
N. F. T.
the restaurant is quite spacious with a nice modern interior and the dining experience is slightly similar to yumcha.
we highly recommend the soup dumplings (ofc) and their egg fried rice with shredded beef & truffle oil !! . the soup dumplings here are flavourful and juicy, definitely try out this place if youre craving xiao long baos !!
P. T.
Home flavor! Far away from Taiwan but got a Taiwanese flavor to ease your home sick!
A. L.
Food were amazing and the service is extremely effective. We ordered Zha Jiang noodles and they were awesome. It probably needs more flavouring, but I think it’s pretty good. The chicken soup on the other hand was the bomb, and I think it’s definitely a must try soup. Unfortunately it is quite an expensive restaurant, so I wouldn't come here all the time.
N. P.
Used to be my go-to Chinese restaurant before Covid-19 hits. Not sure what happened but the quality and taste seem to drop massively in the last 2 visits. Xiao long bao came in disoriented shape and smaller than usual, prawn fried rice was tasteless, prawn ha gao had this weird smell in it. The staff was actually nice enough to refund the ha gao. Might give it another go or i’ll change to crystal jade as my usual place.
A. A.
Good Taiwanese style dumplings and nice atmosphere. The chilly won tons were silky smooth and the Xiao long bao was delicious.
R. A.
Conveniently located inside Emphorium shopping mall. Great place to get a dumpling fix while shopping. Very authentic tasting and reasonable prices.
S. M.
Good layout and design of the restaurant. Nice food, there is better but it's still very good - especially for the price.
Xiao long baos worth ordering!
Decent service and clean tables.
L. L.
These dumplings never get old. Tried other jiao long bao, never really got quite close to those. They also have good variations (truffle is great!!)
M. K.
Very delicious food. My favorite choice are pork dumplings and shrimp pork soup. Staff is very nice and helpful. They are really hard working and always smiled. It's very busy place any time od the day and any day of the week. It's also a quite big place, but despite that service is very good and fast.
T.
I definitely think this was a 5 star experience. We recieved good service from our server and they were very fast with our meals as well as the timing of when they brought things out. The food was good too. The place doesn't feel cramped and is actually a lot bigger than you'd think just looking at it from the outside. We'd happily return to eat here again.
J. M.
Best tasting Shanghai Dumplings. Always fresh and full of juice. Love the truffle xiao long bao.
C. C.
Amazing dumplings! It’s very easy to order here: you need to use the tablet on you table to make your choice. Xiao bao dumplings were very good.
Good quality/price. Fast service.
c. j.
Consistently great food and the best xiaolongbao. Even takeaway they make sure it’s well packed so they don’t burst.
J. Y.
Had to say that the food there is average. However service wise can be much better comparing to its overseas stores, such as head office in Taiwan. We ordered spicy sesames noodle and it came with plain sesames noodle - called the waitress and she tried to say the spicy one is only a little spicy therefore it tastes just like what you are having! NO, it's just plain and no any bit spicy at all!
The fried rice came in broken shape, like it was just dumped into the plate with a broken corner! Dumpling soup came with over boiled and leaked most of them! Folks I recon you can do much better than this. Hopefully your service can catch up the ones in Taiwan sooner!
M. T.
Amazing food ,and fried rice so delicious, dumplings is super tasty well done guys....
E. Y.
I'd say its pretty close to its other branches in other countries. Service is good and food is alright. Prices arent too expensive and there's plenty of seating even during crowd hours.
Y. L.
One of the best dumplings restaurants you can find! I always get the pork chop fried rice, xiao long bao, spicy pork & prawn wontons, hot & spicy soup. Service is always great and efficient.
O. P.
Good setup at the door means you get a nice seat and menu to browse and a buzzer to let you know the table is ready. Then a nice busy place with good atmosphere. Followed by more good service and great amazing food. I will come again.
c.
Eating here was an amazing experience! I booked a table for 6 the day before through google, and the process was super easy. I got sent a number of reminders through the day, which was helpful. The restaurant was relatively easy to find, and it was very clean and service was amazing. The food was delicious, and they had a large range of vegetarian food to choose from which is always nice. Great price, especially when sharing with a large group of people and for the size.
C. M.
Great place for all ages. My 6yr old & I love the dumplings here
A.
Still one of my favourite places, Din Tai Fung serves decent quality Xiao long bao and really fragrant noodles! My fav is the cold apetiser "drunken chicken" cooked with Chinese rice wine!
J. R.
We just finish lunch,my favourite is fried rice and all food so delicious thanks guy...
N. P.
Speedy and pleasant service, delicious dumplings, great selection of food and beverages. Well priced too. Definitely try the chocolate lava bun, it was so much better than I expected!
R. G.
Good company, great food but as it was yum cha we learnt not to order for the whole luncheon in 1 go as they cook it at the same time and bring it straight to table when cooked. Some yum cha premises bring baskets of food around and you can pick what you want as you want it, others you order it freshly made and get it to you or your table of guests very quickly so do not over order
M. N.
Delicious food, efficient way of ordering food. Spicy wonton noodles and green bean with mince is a must try.
P. T.
Not as good as Hong Kong location. Order the spicy shrimp pork dumplings and the xiao Long bao.
N. B.
This real food, the best food, and very good service always my favourite place to eat and my family ....
T. L.
Somewhat disappointed at my most recent visit and I felt that the quality was not what it used to be.
That xiao long bao was still better than most places - thin see through skin, decent volume of soup. However the top where the creases meet was dry and would stick to the roof of your mouth.
The truffle flavoured xiao long bao was pretty decent, and mostly lived up to its price tag.
The most disappointing was the "shiu mai" - which used the exact same filling as the xiao long bao, and a small shrimp placed on top. The skin was undercooked and doughy in the middle.
The shrimp and pork wonton was quite nice, had a good ratio of shrimp and pork which gave a nice springy texture. Although all the "spicy sauce" dressed dumplings were a bit too overly sweet and not aromaticly spicy as it should be.
Staff are helpful and very efficient so the wait times are not too bad even when it's busy.
Premium prices for very ordinary dumplings.

Juicy pork Xiao Long Bao. Surprised by the great flavors of the colorful Xiao Long Bao. We also had drunken chicken, steamed pork bun, pork cutlets and stir fried vegetables. Overall very satisfied. Flavour almost like the original shop in Taiwan. Pricey.
M. N.
Food is good but sometimes service can be a miss
D. W.
This is the real deal. For anyone who knows DTF from Asia, this place is good news. High quality dumplings, not dim sum style.
N. N.
I have been to DTF in Hong Kong, Taipei and Singapore. I think Melbourne DTF is not as good as those places. Obviously overhyped and priced accordingly. Service was veryyyyy slow but they did apologize. An average experience overall.
N. L.
The food is same taste as what we usually have at the original restaurant in Taiwan, however the service isn’t the same quality as what we receive in Taiwan, the location is very convenience and easy to reach.
M. H.
Not sure how many DTF's Melbourne have at this point but this surely have a be a flagship store. DTF have chosen a great location on the 4th floor of the Emporium. The decor is ooze modern contemporary class and as far as I can remember, this is the first DTF that serenades its diners with the soft flow of modern jazz music. The toilet are clean (the sign indicates that they are cleaned every hour) and spacious. Most important, the food meets the high level of expectation that its loyal patrons have now taken for granted.
P. A.
The Xiao long bao's unfortunately are not like they used to be, very little soup. We came here for these as they were some of the best in town.
The fried chicken with spicy noodle is consistently tasty! Yum.
Desserts were lacking though, durian ice cream had great flavour.. but was very icey.. and the steamed bun was quite dense.
Overall, good meal but for the price not quite justified.
K. B.
Vegetarian dumplings in chilli oil are out of this world!
P. S.
Fresh and handmade Dumplings to die for. I love that they serve dumplings with freshly grated ginger. It amps up the taste.
I am not a fan of msg and they use msg in their dumplings. That’s why I have stopped eating there.
J. T.
Great food. Good service. Auto robots are a novelty.
N.
Great food and very fast service - even when the bots are sleeping

I have been to Din Tai Fung in Sydney and Malaysia and unfortunately the Melbourne store is not up-to-par with their quality. The servings were noticeably smaller compared to my previous experiences, especially the prawn and pork shao mai and braised beef noodle soup. The beef noodle soup usually comes quite nicely arranged but it looked a bit thrown together and the noodles were overcooked, lacking the 'chew'. The service was quite efficient and friendly, especially the floor manager. Not sure if the food quality of this branch is worth going back for, considering the premium price.
S. M.
Consistently the same the world over. Din tai fung have dumplings and small snacks down to a fine art. Nice to know that anywhere you are in the world, the food will be excellent
A. P.
Well worth the experience! Amazing dumplings Xiao Long Bao a must! Spicy shrimp and pork wonton also excellent.
N. C.
Overall is quite good but not perfect. Bit of wait for food and quite pricey to be honest, but their vegetarian fried rice and beef noodle soup are my absolute favourites and what I always go there for. Xiao Long Bao is on the saltier side and honestly was a little underwhelming considering that’s what they’re famous for. Nice atmosphere and environment tho, a clean cloth bag provided for you to place your bags/belongings on the side of the table is a very nice touch.
L.
Best Chinese restaurant in Melbourne! Fantastic food for more than ok prices. I've been goinf to this restaurant for more than a year now and I just keep bringing my friends here. Literally everything on the menu is super tasty, personal favorites: pork dumplings, spicy wonton soup noodles and honey beef with dry noodles. Black sesame ice cream is delicious! You can't go wrong with this, highly recommend!
J. W.
The food was amazing. We had the prawn fried rice which was so nice and fluffy and not oily. The desserts were so delicious, highly recommend trying everything as you won't be disappointed.
T.
Great atmosphere and great good. Will definitely be going back with mates again soon.
V. Z.
We went there at around 5pm. The service was nice and the dumplings were so tasty.
C. A.
Well..
Will check in later.. to see how many star they can get..
S. A.
Not bad, just seems some quality drop off or a bad day, service is still excellent, while the prawns were very rubbery
J. T.
Very good Xia Long Bao, pity it's pricier than the rest, must be the rent at Emporium
R. S.
The food is relatively cheap if shared among friends or family and the portions size is plentiful. The service was friendly and very attentive. Delicious xiao long bao and the main dishes were all very flavorful! would definitely recommend.
R. D.
This is such a fun and different way to dine! You get to fill out an order form rather than order with a waitress and they bring your meals to you. The buns and dumplings are seriously divine but they also taste fresh and healthy. Staff are polite and very knowledgeable and the prices are very reasonable. One of my favourite meal experiences!
G. W.
The restaurant is located in the Emporium and occupies half of its fourth floor. It is comparable to other Chinese restaurants in terms of quality, quantity, staff hospitality and location.
The food is authentic and tastes like Taiwan and southern China cuisine, and it also includes some popular foods in eastern china, for example steamed buns, which are of a desirable standard. The environment is excellent, with a number of sofa seats and window seats. However, this restaurant is highly popular during mealtimes, and in weekends waiting is required. Overall this is a fabulous restaurant.
J. C.
A little overrated for the cost of the dumplings. You can get the dumplings elsewhere for less than what they charge here with better service and taste. But overall, quite decent food and very well presented. Recommended.
P. S. (.
I've lived in Taiwan for awhile so have been to DTF branches in Taipei and a few other cities in Asia on many occasions.
DTFs are typically upscal-ish in decor and service but this one was quite different — sort of food court vibes and service to match. There were no instructions about ordering with the tablet or how to eat XLB for first timers. We were on our own.
The food was generally good. The Pork & Shrimp Xaolong baos were tasty as always but noticeable poorer than other DTF's Ive tried. The chicken soup which is usually delicate and complex at the same time, was one-note, lukewarm and pretty disappointing. Everything else was pretty on par.
Overall its a good place for casual lunch and decent value for Melbourne. No regrets. But if you been in DTF elsewhere you should tone down your expectations .
M. X.
Average customer service, sweet and sour chicken many pieces weight too small, xiao long bao tasted good.
E. A.
We came here mainly for the xiao long bao. They are good, tasty but still lacking that juiciness inside. The rainbow gems are interesting but not amazing. I feel the flavours are a bit weird.

Nice atmosphere. Food is served very quick but fresh and yummy. Kind staffs that always look for customers needs and come at right time.
5 star for both foods and services
S. M.
Another Din Tai Fung location with amazing food and good service. Their dumplings, rice, crispy chicken were all delicious. My children and extended family all loved their meals and the view you get being on the top floor of Emporium. We had a wonderful time - highly recommend getting there early! Very long lines!
M.
Amazing top quality food! I highly recommend the Pork Dumplings along with the Fried Rice with Egg - totally delicious! Friendly staff, however I was uncomfortable eating my meal - some of the female workers had very very very short skirts on where their hoo has and knickers could be seen. This was off putting. Is this a strip club or a family restaurant? 5 stars for quality food but 4 starts for overall experience.
L. E.
Nice flavour, dumplings only came out lukewarm though
C. M.
Tasty food, friendly staff happy caming back every week
M. E.
Lively surroundings, but serving size is small for the dumplings price. Beef and noodle soup was lovely
A. H.
Ordered spicy pork dumpling, xia long boa and chicken cutlet with soup.
Dumplings have always been great! Service this time around was exceptional from a number of staff. Feels like they might be warming up a little ;)
Family well fed
Thanks
S. H.
Warm, cozy, classy and pretty busy. Came here with friends, awesome place and recommend it. Love the chilled vibes and decent prices
E. E.
Dumplings here are made fresh and always consistent. Try the fried rice with crispy fried chicken also - quite a treat. Cold dishes can be hit and miss. It is quite a large restaurant so it is a nice place to grab lunch quickly without having to wait too long for a seat.
C. T.
GORGEOUS dumplings, rice, chicken, noodle soups etc. and I visit this place every time I come to Melbourne without fail.
S. f.
Very quick service (especially for a Saturday night) helped by the iPad ordering system. Food was really good and consistent with Din Tai Fung's I've been to overseas, and reasonably priced too. Cannot fault anything we had, although the Xiao Long Bao are clearly a favourite.
J.
We took my mum here who had never had dumplings before. We ordered way too much food, but it was all delicious and a reasonable price. The standout was the honey beef and the chicken and mushroom dumplings, and watching my mum use chopsticks for the first time!
A. N.
I've always heard about Din Tai Fung from friends overseas so my wife and I decided to try it out when it opened at Emporium in Melbourne.
There was a crowd queuing to get in but we were told that it'll only be ten minutes. We were skeptical but to or surprise, they moved the crowds pretty quickly and we were in in ten minutes.
The staff were very helpful with the menu and attentive despite the huge crowds so that's a plus from me.
The food was delicious! We had some dumplings, spicy noodles and buns and everything was great. The spicy noodles was a little oily for my liking but it was a once in a while treat so I didn't mind it. We washed everything down with the mango crush dessert. The mini version of the dessert was huge so I can't even imagine how large the regular sized one is.
The food's a little pricier than the dumpling places in Chinatown but you get what you pay for. Highly recommended.
S. A.
I came, I saw, I ate until I could eat no more and then I ate some more. Simply amazing dumplings and food.
A. W.
It was ok, we had two kinds of noodles and two kinds of dumplings. Didn't feel like it was worth the hype. Not terrible just unmemorable. I feel like there's much better food and atmosphere close by in China Town
N. N.
To me, this is a one of the best restaurants in Melbourne. Very authentic Taiwanese food. I've been to their restaurant in Taiwan, their original country and their food tasted just like in the one in Melbourne. Staffs are very friendly and helpful with fast service, price is very reasonable. My family and friends all love it. I will definitely comeback and highly recommend it to people!
F. P.
Great place with a robust menu. Service is friendly but can be a bit confused when it's busy which it can be in the weekends. Good prices for gold food. Excellent desserts. Good dumplings. Can't go wrong.
H. N.
Who doesn't love a dumpling... So I'm an aussie who has eaten many a dumpling across Melbourne... I reckon these are the best. I've had arguments with my Asian mates, who reckon there's better...
J. G.
It's superb, I always like it. The chocolate 🍫 dumplings are my fav. Portions are pretty good.
C. V.
Bustling restaurant offering a wide range of mainly dumpling and noodle dishes. You fill in your order at your table and the food is dispatched promptly - be warned- they have a tendency to come in random order. Tasty and fresh food, plenty of atmosphere and fun drinks menu
T. Z.
I'm one of the lucky few who has been to the original Din Tai Fung in Taiwan with some friends and locals. My experience of Melbourne's version is eerily similar. I know that chain stores are meant to keep the quality and experience consistent between venues and Din Tai Fung is absolutely a product of that.
Entering the restaurant we were treated to the open kitchen (behind large glass windows) showing a army of chefs furiously folding their famous dumplings. It's a pretty incredible thing to watch. Every single staff member who walks past us treats us to a happy welcoming tune of "ni hao" (hello). The interiors are clean, modern and minimal with nice symmetry with the rest of the Emporium Shopping Centre. It fits the location perfectly. As we rested our coats on the chairs behind us our smiling waitress dashes over to put a protective cover over the top of them - just another mark of attention to detail this team goes to!
We decide to order everything and I mean everything, delicious dumplings arrive followed by scrumptious noodles, rice dishes and just at the point when we think we can not stuff another single piece of food in our mouths a refreshing pot of tea is delivered to help wash it all down. The food while being tasty, fresh and filling is above average in price compared to similar places around town. As a whole I do like Din Tai Fung and would recommend a trip here for those who have not been before. If you are a dumpling aficionado then check out some other places in nearby China Town. For a chain restaurant this is how it should be.
C. H.
Quality seemed to have dropped since the last time we came for eat in a few years ago. We get their Truffle Fried Rice for takeaway a few times a year.
The dumplings were disappointing compared to what we remember.
J. P.
Had to see what all the hype is about so was taken here to try out their special XLB dumpling dish amongst many others.
Overall was quite impress with the quality of food served and the atmosphere at this place. Majority of the tables was filled so you know this restaurant is buzzing with energy and foodie fanatics.
Unfortunately there was one major flaw at this place which lead to me giving only 3 stars and that is due to the poor level of customer service and intimacy from our waitress who was serving my group last night.
Upon arrival, You provided us a sheet of all your dishes and drinks as part of your ordering system for us to write down, when taking our order you somewhat reconfirmed it yet you decided to rewrite the "entire" sheet in return left out/forgot some of the crucial dishes being served during the night.
The facts was all there with both our original sheet we filled out and your rewritten one where you clearly left out the missing dishes so again, not sure why you came back to us on a number of occasions trying to correct us.
Following all this, I've noticed that our waitress requires a serious attitude and ego adjustment as the level of rudeness was astonishing from here on out.
Not sure if your real name is Wydia but I do hope that you can improve your customer service skills for all future customers eating at Din Tai Fung.
N. H.
Amazing. Favourite restaurant of my partner and I. The Xiao Long Bao and Pineapple Prawns are to die for. Pricey but worth it. Can't recommend enough.
N. C.
Best buns in Melbourne, best fried rice in the world. This place is awesome, it looks quaint, it is anything but. Everything we ordered was really really good, and I don't say that often. The vegetarian fried rice was absolutely amazing. They added truffle oil - who knew?!? Since leaving Singapore, we've been searching for the best steamed buns, and we've found them. The taro bus are amazing. We will be returning.
O. &. S. N. A.
Came in after getting high praises from friends and it did not disappoint - super busy, but quick service and iPad ordering from your table made it very quick to serve.
L. P.
Good food here, fast service. If only the dumplings and other dishes were served a bit warmer - normally Xiao long bao comes out piping hot and you have to be careful not to burn yourself on the hot soup inside, but it was lukewarm when it arrived. Good quality though.
C. G.
Food is ok service is quick there is usually a wait.
B. S.
An authentic Chinese dim sum restaurant with a good choice of vegetarian options and excellent service. The food was tasty and served hot by the wait staff that never seemed to be more than a few steps away. Lots of shopping nearby too! Perhaps a little pricey but maybe that's normal for Melbourne.
S. V.
Amazing dumpling place. Absolutely worth it. Probably one of the best dumplings in town. It's pricier than most other places however definitely worth. There are all sorts of different dumplings. One you should definitely try is the truffle dumpling and of course the xiao long bao. Would definitely return here
B. K. N. O.
This is a very popular Chinese resto around the world. They are popular on xiao long bao but not the best in Melbourne. I wonder how the truffle xiao long bao tastes. I believe it will taste nice because I love truffles. The only problem why I did not buy it coz it is expensive. 1 piece truffle xiao long bao for 13 aud or higher i guess? I forgot.. but it must be precious. The Spicy pork and shrimp wonton tastes uniquely amaziiing! , green bean mith minced pork was my all-time fave chinese veggie. One of the few moments in chinese resto when I did not have food coma because of too much preservatives. The price is cheap and affordable. The place has good ambience too! A lot of customers even on weekdays. Staffs were linient and they know customer service! The whole place was generally clean. Would recommend! 😊
O.
Every single time i go its awesome !
E. K.
This Melbourne (Australia) outlet unique dishes is truffle fried rice (must order)and the soup dumplings was yummy and memorable. The other outlet I tried was in Seattle but they did not ha e any specials offerings and had nothing to talk about. I would say my best yet for this brand.
A. H.
Closes at 830pm!! Reminiscent of the Hong Kong/China stores, with good food but missing something, lacking atmosphere also. A few of the dumplings we ordered were not fresh and steaming hot. If you have opportunity to go to Hong Kong or China, save it for there...
L. C.
I always to go their franchise whenever I travel - been to 4 different outlets over the world so far. The prices are cheaper for xiao long bao 12pcs around 13 AUD, but found the size of dumplings to be smaller but then it was for 8 pieces so it evened out. Did not have the strong porky smell which I liked, would visit 100 more times.
D. L.
Standard similar to any other countries. Good food and service.
A. M.
Food:
Tasty and fresh (even though it was after 9pm)
Service:
Quick and efficient
Price:needs consideration if your looking for an inexpensive but tasty meal.
Presentation of store : their are some tidy/cleanliness issues in the general dinning room. Table clearing is a bit slow as well
I would recommend visiting this store tho
N.
I have had Din Tai Fung overseas in Singapore and absolutely loved the food there so I was super excited when they open in Melbourne. However I find myself not enjoying the food as much as I thought I would. Dumplings are rather just average. Noodles dishes taste quite bland and nothing extraordinary. I am quite disappointed actually. So now everytime I have a chance to go to Singapore I would definitely stop by Din Tai Fung over there but as for Melbourne location I would give it a miss. Sorry there are places out there in Melbourne that offer the same dish but better taste.
P. G.
Ordered beef noodle soup, beef was so tough and dry I had to ask for a new bowl. Second bowl came and was still a bit tough, I'm not sure if they know how to make beef oyster blade tender... Very disappointed. Service and soup dumplings are always good, but not sure about their other dishes anymore.
C.
The best soup dumplings you will eat in your darn life! Great service, easy to use menu and a seamless ordering system. Other faves are the spicy wontons which are PACKED with flavour, the Kung pow noodles and green beans. Love this place
J. B. T.
Unique Dish: Yummy Prawn Fried Rice & Xiao Long Bao Dumplings
Special: Truffle Dumplings / Special Compartment Stand next to your table to put your belongings for your comfort - makes the place looks tidy too. Love the fresh cut chilli. Check out the cute toys at the cashier.
Food: Good Portion size. $1+ for a pot of tea.
Service: Servers are well presented, smiling & polite. Came quickly to us when
we raised our hands for service.
Atmosphere: Well decorated & Clean. Temperature is Climate Controlled. Toilet is posh & clean. Great Music at the right
volume.
Price: Value for $$$
I give it 5 / 5 stars. I highly recommend you to bring your family, colleagues
and friends there this week.
:)

Din Tai Fung is a favourite of our family, we have visited the original in Taiwan and also Shanghai, Melbourne does not disappoint. The dumplings are equally good here and the selection is extensive. I would suggest a banquet for a first time visitor, as it is good value and has the variety without having to buy one of everything from the menu.
M. G.
Not as good as in Jakarta but still very enjoyable
M. W.
Some of the best dumplings I’ve ever had! Would definitely recommend. Service was fantastic too, despite being so busy.
J. T.
Great dumplings and other Chinese-style dishes. Not quite on par with what's available at overseas Din Tai Fung locations though. Service is excellent and quite efficient. This can create some pressure to eat quickly and go though. Gets busy at peak times. Their xiao long bao are the specialty and there's an interesting 'rainbow' variety which features 7 alternative flavours. The pork chop fried rice is excellent too.
A. L.
Very tasty high quality xiao long bao. The skin is thin, so thin you can see the soup and meat inside 🤤.
Spicy pork and veg wontons were great. The addition of Sichuan peppers adds that mouth numbing sensation.
The pot stick dumplings are definitely worth the 15-20min wait, it's everything you would want from a dumpling; crispy, soft, meaty and surprisingly soupy.
Service is ok, but could be better since they market themselves as a more upper class dumpling restaurant.
H. B.
Delicious wontons and xiao long bao
M. j.
Although quite pricey, you really can't fault the food, everything we ordered was yummy, better than most other dumpling restaurants I've been to of the same price range. Dining atmosphere could be improved.
S. K.
Best soup dumplings Xiao Long bao! Great fried rice with shrimp. Service is fast and friendly. A little pricey but the food is always good. Also recommend the vegetarian dumplings and wontons. Best to come early to avoid the queue!
J. B.
You cannot go wrong with the soup dumplings! The best! Spicy noodles are also really great. I recommend Din Tai Fung...and I highly recommend the one in KL if you are ever there 😉
N. F.
Honestly not that great.
Would recommend going elsewhere for your dimpling needs.
M. U.
Really good service, food is pretty good. Most dishes are quite dear, but I guess that's why the service is good!
When you place your jacket on the seat, they give some cover incase someone behind you brushes your jacket or spills some food. If you have handbags, they provide a small basket, with cover beside your table so you don't have to place your bag on the floor or share your seat space with it.
P. M.
Great spot to get some food when in a hurry. The service is speedy, prices are convenient, awesome character. Will come back again.
K. S.
Great testoment to the successful chain. Whilst staff may speak little English, there are several tools to help navigate the restaurant from a personalized map to your assigned table, an an iPad style ordering system to the table. The char siew paid were perfect circled and the noodles and wontons to expected standard. Good for a quick bite or a sharing meals.
S. N.
Delicious dumplings. Their siao long bau is the best. We also had the recommended chili dumplings which was very good too. Very busy for lunch when we were there, lines to be seated.
T. R.
Just really excellent food fantastic dumplings from this famous Taiwanese restaurant. Try all of the dumplings you can especially the black truffle dumpling. A little bit tricky to find at the top of Emporium but you'll manage just keep going up the escalators to level 4.
M. E.
Small serving size for dumplings, but the beef noodle soup was amazing
E. k.
Mixed experience at Din Tai Fung. The dishes are a lot more expensive than other dumpling restaurants in the city and the soup wasn’t very flavourful. The Kung Pow chicken was nice but again, on the more expensive side.
S. H.
I love Din Tai Fung. It's a great place to stop by if you was good, simple Chinese food. They are most well known around the world for their soup dumplings (Xiao Long Bao), and have various other dumplings too that are equally as good. Overall its a great place for people to go to if they aren't so familiar with Chinese food, or are just looking for high quality dumplings. Din Tai Fung has locations all over the world, so you can also look for them while travelling to popular cities.
O. L.
The xiao long bao have shrunk! We go here a few times a year and today it was slightly disappointing. The taste of the soup inside the dumplings was not as "fresh" as they used to be.
P. C. K.
My favourite place for xiao long bao. They are delicious with really soupy filling. Portions are probably smaller and more expensive than other places, but they are more refined and of better quality. The service is friendly and efficient and food comes out very quickly. I've been to other Din Tai Fungs in other countries and this one is probably not as good I feel. All in all though, it is one of the better Chinese/Taiwanese restaurants in Melbourne and their mango pudding is absolutely delicious.
S. J.
I went to the Melbourne Din Tai Fung with friends for my birthday as I had been to the flagship original Michelin star branch in Taiwan earlier in the year and it blew me away, so I was hoping to share that with my friends. I was not disappointed. The dumplings were as divine as they were overseas, and I could honestly not tell the difference. Xiao long bao at its finest. Bursting with flavour and wrapping so thing it was translucent and you could see everything inside. The prawn soup dumplings (the ones like xiao long bao but the have a brawn on top so they are like a bow shape) are the yummiest and are heavenly. The Melbourne branch has different sides to the Taiwan one, and I actually liked the Melbourne sides better. The beans were absolutely delicious, I have no idea what type of oil or dressing they put on them but they are YUM. Also their honey pepper beef melts in the mouth and is divine. Be aware that it's worth going first thing at 11am or you may be waiting a long time to get in. Overall, this is the fine dining experience for dumplings that won't disappoint.
I. T.
The pork dumplings are good but not amazing. Food quality is very average not as good as it used to be. For the same price point or less, there’s better dumplings restaurants in Melbourne.
A. A.
Nice food,
Lots of options.
R. P.
The food was good though i have had better. The food is much better in Shanghai.
What horrified me was a black hair in my food and when we were leaving, we saw all employees in the dumpling section behind the glass touching/ making the dumplings with bare hands....no soft gloves. That was really disappointing and sickening.
A. T.
The pan fried seafood pot stickers were some of the best food I ever had in my life. I'm still in the restaurant trying to process the incredible food experience I just had. Just wow. Bravo.
J. M.
Excellent dumplings. We went for lunch on a Wednesday and it was no problem to get a table. Just a little bit of a trick to find it as at ground level its just a small sign with a lift that goes up to level 4.
M. W.
Visited for the first time in a year. The quality of the food has dropped since then. The pork dumplings are still yum but they are small. Not recommended.
J. N.
Delicious chinese food, their specialty is dumplings and dim sums.
Excellent service, very spacious and kids friendly (kids get colouring pages).
J. G.
Din Tai Fung's dumplings are probably my favourite in Melbourne. They're relatively expensive however so it's not a place we visit every week. Well worth a try if you enjoy dumplings.
L. “.
Very far from the taste compares to the original restaurant in taiwan. Pork chop Fried rice is very is different, disappointing. Kitchen needs better training. You can get better food than this just around the corner.
S. Y.
Great restaurant to come for lunch after shopping in emporium. My favourite was the prawn fried rice and pork dumplings. Staffs was very friendly. Definitely coming again!
S. B.
Divine dumplings. Would love to try more of the menu
Q. D.
Nice food, but it wasn't your typical yum cha with the cart. Order is done via a piece of papper or tablet. Good place to dine amd selection of food was good.
S. T.
Fantastic restaurant and well trained staff. Good quality food.
I only give it 3 stars because compare to the other Din Tai Fungs I've been to in Taiwan, its food selection is probably less than 20%. Tons of Din Tai Fung's famous dishes are not offered here. It's service is also considered substandarded compared to other restaurants.
I often hear from local friends who wonder how this restaurant has a Michelin. My answer is you really have to visit the ones in Taiwan. The level of service and food selection will blow your mind!
t. n.
The place is immaculate.
The food is okay, the xia long bao were nice but not that I have expected.
Overall the experience, was okay.
I. P.
There's quite a crowd in my experience going there for dinner one Sunday. They don't take reservations for party less than 7 so best to call ahead for wait time. I liked the Xiao Loong Bao dumplings that they're famous for. If you like noodles I'll recommend Char Jiang Mien.
T. A.
The food is great as always, but the service leaves a lot to be desired. It was inattentive and slow, which is an anomaly for every DTF I've ever visited elsewhere. The only time they came by more often, or at all actually, was when they wanted us to leave before closing time.
H. Z.
One of the greatest and affordable Chinese food. The food, service, and price are all good. Love the chicken soup there! Hate their rules on credit card surcharge though!
R. S.
Love the fried rice and dumplings. Consistently high quality, delicious food!
M. C.
If you want quality xiao long bao in Melbourne, this is the place to go. All the other dishes I've tried here, like the fried rice, noodles and buns, have also been excellent.
S. C.
Sometimes there’s a lineup to be seated but it’s usually pretty quick. This place is basically a taste haven. The portions are not oversized so go nuts and order heaps and try different things hehe.
J. R.
Good to see some more vegetarian dishes here compared to branches in other countries.
g. p.
Food is quite okay here and atmosphere is nice and cosy. It’s a Michelin star restaurant but I personally think the food is nice but abit overrated. Prices are reasonable. truffle dumplings are nice.
C. P.
While the manager gave us complimentary fried rice and offered to reheat our food, the fact that we waited over 40 mins just for our $2.5 steamed rice to cook is just silly as to how an asian restaurant not have steamed rice ready. Still, I appreciate the effort.
C. R.
Our go to restaurant for Xiao Long Bao
M. F.
Tasty as always, but dissapointed the menu is severely reduced. I wished I could have eaten more variety like I did on a previous visit.
G. S.
Their Xiao Long bao is always good and their other food is decent quality (as one would expect with a franchise). But to be honest with the other dishes, they Aren't as good or as authentic if you were to eat them at a proper Chinese restaurant e.g. Spicy chicken. Don't order it here. Their pork steak and fried rice is always solid. Also got to try their massive Xiao Long bao which was more fun than anything but the little ones are better.
C. T.
Great service. Food is expensive for what you get. The only thing I really come for is the pork dumplings. Other than that, you can find other good Chinese restaurants to eat at for a cheaper price.
S. M.
Not as good as the Din Tai Fung in Taipei - seating service was very slow and not well organized !! The food was great 😃 Staff need to be more aware of the customers needs , attention to detail required !! The experience in Taipei was just amazing !! It's a pity we can't get that feeling here 😉
L. N.
The noodle soup was really good and so was the ice tea! Can’t wait to come here once more
S. S.
Food is super delicious but a bit pricey
A. S.
They are good. No wonder they are the best in Taiwan.
T. C.
Best dumplings in the world, Michelin one star peasant food. I would rate it 6 stars if I could. Make sure to visit the Taipei original store where it all started
J. S.
loved the Xiao Long Bao
A. F.
We found Din Tai Fung in Emporium shopping centre in Melbourne to be slightly worse than Din Tai Fung restaurants in Sydney. Don't get me wrong, it is nice, especially their famous dumplings, but shredded tofu salad tasted better in Sydney and rice noodles soup failed to impress.
S. M.
Spicy vegetarian wonton dumplings are the best dumplings I have ever had 👌. It’s a great choice for vegetarians. So tasty and soft 😋
A. L.
I dream about their dumplings. We went twice when in Melbourne, stick to the classics (xiao long bao, spicy shrimp wonton) and wash it all down with Tsingtao.
J. K.
Soup dumplings were good and service was quick and easy via iPad
-.
We have tried Din Tai Fung in Melbourne, Sydney and Singapore and it is remarkable the consistency of their product across different territories. Crab and Pork Xiao Long Bao is a favourite, as is the prawn fried rice. Occasionally they’ll have specials like Chocolate and Red Bean Xiao Long Bao. I dearly miss the the iced fruit cocktails which they don’t seem to make any more.
When the Melbourne branch first opened the service was outstanding, with eager staff greeting you left right and centre even on a trip to the bathroom! The service has since become more reasonable and low-key, for which I’m still grateful.
Don’t expect to walk away with a bill of less than $100 for four people.
G. H. (.
Great meals and packed with delicious flavour.
R. V.
Good food that's perfectly prepared and served. DTF is one of our favorite haunts. What to order? Any Xiao Long Bao, Black Pepper Beef, any fried rice and for dessert, the mango pudding.
L. C.
Do not TAKE AWAY.
I love DTF, I'm always going to DTF in China. So I was happy to go there for a take away as I had no time to dine there and make the queue.
The staff said I should wait around 15min for my order.
I actually wait 30min and I saw them preparing my order (there was a gap of 10min between when they put the first meal and the last, I reckon).
After getting my order I get home 5min later... except the rice, everything was cold. They placed the xiao long bao first. It was cold...
Really disappointed. They could put the xiao long bao at last so they would be hot...
I know take away could take some time to prepare but I still believe they should organize better to be sure we don't pick up a cold order...
Happily the food taste good.
I would recommend to eat there and go early because of the queue.
S.
The most delicious dumplings I've ever had. Its a very authentic restaurant. These people are fast and extremely efficient.
D. P.
We had several dishes and all of them were good. The only thing I don't like is the inability to book ahead. We had to wait 15 minutes but the wait can be longer
L. B.
incredible dumplings, their entire range of xiao long bao-style dumplings are simply excellent. Highlights are the crab roe and the truffle ones. Try the fried rice as well
J. L.
Nice food but pricey
T. T.
Good service but food a bit pricey. The xiao long bao are good but not excellent. The skin is amazingly thin and elastic but the filling a bit light in flavours. The other dishes are good nothing will blow your mind
V. S.
Steamed dumplings are great, however the noodle soups are just very average. Personally, I prefer Dumplings Plus downstairs
D. C.
Fab food at a reasonable price. Worth the wait. You can't book small tables so you just turn up, take a beeper and wait your turn. Didn't take long to get in though, about 15 minutes at 8pm.
C. Q.
This was nice but online it promoted itself to be a yum cha restaurant and it honestly has nothing to do with Yum Cha.
A. W.
Taiwanese style dim sum, noodles and rice dishes, part of a chain famous world wide, and this branch is as good as the others we've been to.
A. C.
The dumplings here are as good as the ones at the original Din Tai Fung in Tai Pei, Taiwan.
N. D.
Great staff, fast service and most importantly delicious dumplings. More open and relaxed ambiance than typical Chinese restaurant, I'll be back
S. A.
Seems like this place has gone down in quality. Used to be a quite regular customer 3 years ago and i see a significant drop in service and food quality
d.
Generally pretty good but is $$$
j.
Great feed. Cannot compare to the one in Asia, the source of ingredients is just not the same tier. But the presentation, service and quality is consistent and reasonable. Price is also very acceptable.
S. C.
Absolutely love the food. Always try to get here when in Melbourne
R. H.
Excellent food, tasty dumplings and fried chicken. Was surprised how quick the food was served, as the place was packed on a Tuesday night.
P. E. N.
More like Din Tai YUM! Am I right? Xiao long bao- need some right now! Am I right? Absolutely delicious. Dumpling heaven. Also I enjoy the ordering system.
B.
The most delicious Xiao Long Bao in Melbourne. This place is a Sunday lunch with kids kinda place, where there is something for everyone. As long as the kids don’t expect me to share my serve of XLB!
F. C.
The place you go to "treat yourself" the best xiao long baos!
It's not cheap, but definitely worth it when you have some extra pocket money and feel like splurging on your tastes buds a little.
The staff here are always kind and friendly too!
K. S.
Simply superb preparations. This was my first experience at this international chain and really enjoyed most if the items offered from their menu and enjoyed all
S. R.
Good dumplings. But a bit pricey..
M. A.
Fast and friendly service and the meals tasting great. The dumpling that has the soup escape into you mouth when you bite into it was my favourite.
A. D.
Good food and service.
L. F.
Delicious food and great service. No waiting, no fuss, just yummy, fresh dumplings and other dishes that make your mouth water!
S.
Good food put pricy
T. S.
Love the xiao long bao - its 10/10 , best that I have eaten outside China but rest everything else was just ok . Overall quite expensive considering the servings.
S. N.
Great for a quick feed when you are in a rush. The soup dumplings are definitely the star. Not cheap though.
D. L.
Pretty decent dumplings. The wait isn't super long unless it's a Sunday brunch. Good variety of choices.
S. F.
Fantastic food and very quick service. Have been here several times and have never had a problem. Food always consistent in quality and flavour.
L. R.
Our favorite restaurant in this part of the world. Same quality as its branch brothers and sisters. Personally I love the spicy wontons and the Shao Mai
M.
Loved it! Service was impeccable and the dumpling noodle soup was amazing! Definitely head over if you get a chance :)
M. H.
Fabulous food. Company was great. Really fresh pepper beef
J. S.
Their dumplings are delicious, some of their other dishes are hit and miss. The service is efficient, and their wait staff are nice.
C. N.
Always great consistent service. Really great pricepoint and food is great! Highly recommended.
M. P.
Super casual dumpling place. Food is awesome. Must try the Pork soup dumplings!
S. G.
As always the juicy dumplings are fantastic. The service and restaurant is great quality.
o. m.
very nice food and place
M. F.
Great dumplings. Fast, friendly, professional service. My wife and I are regulars. 10 out of 10.
F. L.
Didn't wait too long for a friday evening, approx 20minutes, which was acceptable for me. Food was served pretty fast. Staff were helpful. Food quality is good!
T. E.
Truffle xiao long bao here is good. Full of truffle flavour.
J. S. J.
Every Din Tai fung I've ever been different taste. I have visited Shanghai, Seoul and Melbourne. In my view, Shanghai was the best and Melbourne is the second best. But I love Din Tai Fung anyway.
B. C.
Nice Xiao Long Baos...best meal is the chicken chop...yum. Not as busy as it used to be, but still good. Recommended
E. A.
The best Chinese food I've had. Delicious dumplings and the truffle fried rice is amazing.
N. K.
Authentic Dumplings, fried rice and pork chops look no further. Bar none the best xiao long baos in Melbourne
P. C.
Great atmosphere! Xiao Long Bao and Lava buns are my favorite. Good and friendly service, good location when doing some shopping.
J. N.
modern, casual vibe with amazing food variety. The crab meat shang hai soup dumplings (xiao long bao) is a must try!
S.
Food was expensive and the customer service xe subpar, but food taste and flavour was amazing!!
R. P.
Quick and efficient service even though the restaurant was quite full. Food was delicious and all requests for extras were served promptly
P. B.
Great food, great service, lots of tables.. love the Xiao Long Bao the most! Definitely the best in Melbourne, and I've had them almost everywhere.
C. j.
It's very good but not as great as it's often made out to be. Still worth a visit, especially for the great soup dumplings
T. h.
The best Xiao long Bao in Melbourne.
C. A.
I really like the Chinese food here. Very authentic and delicious. Good service highly recommend
T. A.
Could use some extra service in busy hours, my table on the corner was not getting attention. Food was okay, good atmosphere. Quite high priced
M. A.
Dumplings ... Yum. Great spot but gets busy. Grab a buzzer when you get there. Drop downstairs and shop until it goes off.
K. C.
Xiao long bao/ soup dumplings are a must try!
b. v.

R. H.
Absolutely love this place. From the delicious yum cha, the great service and the incredible efficiency of the whole experience. This place will be on high rotation.
R. G.
Back in Taiwan, ding tai fung wasn't only famous for its xiao long bao but also it's awesome fried rice
I'll just have to be honest with you, the fried rice here in Melbourne is unacceptable
That doesn't change my opinion of how the xiaolong bao and other dumpling dishes still captured that authentic taste you get in a Taiwanese ding tai fung
Just don't do the fried rice, it's just not good
C. N.
good atmosphere, people who ordered after us got food first and we waited about 20 minutes for ours, but good food
S. B.
Average service, food order came out in the wrong priority and drinks were brought out abit late. Overall a average experience.
p. m.
nice restaurant, had the rainbow dumplings and they're great the truffle ones too. I give 4 stars.
N. W.
Incredible dumplings! Really great food and it all came fast - in and out in 20 mins.
J. A.
The noodles taste awesome , but their portion are not huge enough to match with their price
S. K.
Had higher expectations but it felt like a big chain restaurant. Far better options in Chinatown.
J. E.
Amazing and delicious food. The best dumplings that I have tried
M. R.
Menu seems changes, not so many dumplings
A.
Easily the best Xiao Long Bao we have had outside Hong Kong. Our other options we equally delicious
R. K.
Fast service and reasonably good food but I didn't think it was on par with some of their overseas branches and found it slightly pricier than other restaurants offering similar quality food.
B. K.
The service was quiet good. And food are good but a bit pricy compared with small portions. Overall it's good place to try
M. D.
Dumplings are so nice over there!
Customer service was good! Really enjoy the environment!!!
D. P.
Quality was excellent. More expensive than a lot of dumpling places but worth the extra.
C. C.
Lots of seating. Quick service. Delicious noodles and 小籠包
S. R.
Great service and Friendly Staff. There was a minor issue but they were fast to rectify this. Thanks to the skinny woman in PINK who served me.
P. d.
Authentic dumplings and Chinese food
The shao long baos are perfect, leaving you wanting more
C. Y.
Bit of a maze to get here, but you definitely feel separated from the Shopping Centre. Love the menu here and the prompt service
K. O.
I understand It is difficult to keep the quality with Head Office in Taiwan, but yet the quality is better than a lot of Chinese Restaurants in Melbourne
T. H. B.

Amazing food! Delicious chocolate lava bun!

Shanghai dumplings lacked flavour/salt - I was very disappointed. Service was top notch so well done for that.

My favorite Taiwanese restaurante. I love the Xiao bao's amazing soup dumplings, my favorite

Excellent service. Variety of food. Awesome place. Highly Recommended
E. Y. Q.
Always a great place to go when you can’t decide where to have lunch. Classic 😋

Plenty of other places that serve dumplings just as good for cheaper. Only paying for the retail name
T. W.
I bloody love this restaurant since it’s opened. Originally from Westfield Centrepoint in Sydney. All foods are bloody delicious and excellent...
G. L.
I have been to this restaurant franchise in a few locations in Asia. like it's asian location it has good xiao long baos available.
J. K.
After having ghetto xlbs in hutong yesterday, I really needed a system reboot. DTF is still the best ever. I can't believe I found one in australia.
T. A.
Impressive consistency, everything ive ordered from here has been delicious. Definately the best place to go for shanghaiese
D. T.
Nothing like its good old days. Very few selections and taste just average. We will NOT come back.
N. M.
Reduced menu in comparison to international outlets. Food quality and presentation was good but the limitations in options was very disappointing.
D. D.
Most amazing xiao long bao.. I’ve never been able to find better!
M. R.
Sitting was awesome and food was also good.. liked the place and try it out more often to give proper review!
J. L.
Good food for a franchised restaurant with very fast service. Do try out their La Mian and Xiao Long Bao
K. C.
Food as usual from this chain, I think the tea should come as complimentary with the meal, as the prices are not cheap.
A. H.
Food was good but the wait times always suck
W. B.
Great food and service. The dumplings were devine.
M. B.
Order yourself as many orders of xiao long nap as you can stomach! Simply the best!
