Etta's customer service is some of the best I've ever experienced. Each member of staff was so welcoming and knowledgeable. Then to top it off, the food was divine! Each dish was full of flavour and very interesting. In particular the corn fritters and the prawns. Such simple dishes were made anything but. I would highly recommend to "let us feed you" it's such a treat. We'll certainly be back 😊

CREATIVE CUISINE, FRIENDLY STAFF, NICE AMBIANCE Jammed in to the very vibrant restaurant strip along Lygon St in Brunswick (not to be confused with the Lygon St Carlton restaurant strip!) Etta is a gem of a restaurant serving up an Asian inspired modern cuisine in a tastefully renovated dining room that was once a residential building before the massive redevelopment of tis inner city suburb. The whole area is just buzzing with bars and restaurants with those quintessential Melbourne trams trundling up and down the street to and from the city. The dining room is one long area with different zones. We were seated at a raised table (with very comfortable stools) right next to the open kitchen. Despite being fully booked, it wasn't particularly noisy. Wait staff were delightful and attententive. The menu is not huge but has something for everyone. I'd recommend the $75 "let the chef decide for me" option. It's a shared plate affair with an almost "tapas-like" feel. Serving sizes are not large but the quality is excellent. Lots of cocktail choices to start off your evening and the wine list is like a small encyclopaedia. People with mobility issues will be OK as the restaurant is all on one flat level - except for one step up just inside the front entrance. Restroom at the rear is spacious and could accommodate a wheelchair or frame. Parking on Lygon Street and surrounds is horrendous so best to catch a tram or Uber it there!

Not bad, just nothing special. Came with a group of 7 people and had the chefs menu. Disappointed when the mains came out and we had to share a tiny plate of pork ribs between us all. Considering the starters we were given 2 plates of each, to me it’s ridiculous we had to share a main like that. The mains section was bulked out with big bowls of potatoes and mixed leaf salad. Which to me is super cheap to do and not particularly exciting. We specifically requested the eggplant and received a tiny, thin eggplant that had to again be split amongst a big group. The food was nice, but nothing was like WOW you have to try this dish. It just isn’t somewhere I’d return or particularly recommend.

(this review is from Feb 2020 - just added the photo today) It's gone downhill. Third time I've been here and the first two were amazing; however my visit tonight was pretty disappointing. We had the feed me menu and the best part of the meal was the bread. Bloody good bread, mind you, but half of the dishes were underwhelming at best, and didn't really flow together as a cohesive experience. The lowlight of the meal was this iceberg lettuce. I saw several tables leave most of it un-eaten. It just looked lazy and unappetising. The wait staff were awesome, just the food was off the mark.

After our second time dining at Etta I'm even more enamoured with their food than I was after the first visit. From their moreish bread with burnt butter (beware, you will want more, but leave room for the food!) to dessert, everything was prepared thoughtfully and so well. I really enjoyed the tender Milawa chicken with the side of eggplant. The upsidedown cake was perfectly paired with a Stanton and Killeen Muscat. Staff were very friendly when we asked questions or commented, and were unobtrusive the rest of the time. Looking forward to returning for a third visit.

Had the chef's menu amongst 3 of us. Very small portions of food to share with 3 of us. The staff were lovely, attentive and very helpful. Despite this, the food was fairly average (apart from the enoki mushrooms...although they were served a bit cold, and the potatoes) and the serving sizes very tiny - especially for the amount you pay. Unlikely we'll return but if they did another, more generous menu, then may consider giving it another chance.

This is our favourite local restaurant. The "leave it to us" menu is always a treat, especially because they're happy to cater for different food needs and are so good at pleasing this vegetarian (And my non-vego partner). The wines are excellent too and the staff are great at helping you select something to suit your tastes and budget. The dining room is beautiful and extra nice with spaced out tables at the moment. Really nice lottle place. Staff super knowledgeable BUT at times seem to be really pushy on ordering or upselling extra and extra. Nothing wrong with it but i a customer denies the offer, don't ask again and again. It seemed to be disorganised at times, evry one would come and ask if we wanted to order; one after the other. The restaurant wasn't busy, we hot there by 8pm My friends and I decided to go.with shared option.... oh my God!!!! It took ages to have food, it would take about 25/30 mins for 1 share dish within 3 people. ( consider how small the entrees portions are and how long it would take to eat) We asked if if was possible to speed up a bit, it didn't work. Wine list was good. I would just suggest to be a bit faster of serving food and not to be too pushy

I really like the atmosphere, staff, food and service. I went with my partner for an evening meal and we were treated as if we were someone special. The staff were friendly helpful and polite. You that sort of service were glasses are filled, food is delivered and it doesn’t interrupt your conversations. The food was heavenly and delicious with a reasonable wine list. If you are feeling like having a more upmarket dining experience in the excitable East Brunswick end of Lygon st then I thoroughly recommend Etta.

Totally blown away! Each dish was perfect, bursting with flavor, and perfectly cooked. Easy to tell that the ingredients were high-quality and treated with respect. We got the $75 pp 'Let us choose' option and were impressed by every dish. The 'can't miss' dish? Well there are a few: The lamb with smoky eggplant, the fish was amazing, and the beetroot and goat cheese blew my hair back. Service was awesome as well.

This is not a cheap restaurant however the quality and provenance of the food makes it reasonably good value. We are very lucky to have this little gem as one of our locals.

Dined here on a Thursday night. It was relatively quiet inside the place but the surrounding areas were very busy given the warm night. Excellent service and good wine choices, ordered a few dishes to share instead of the tasting option. The mushroom starter was our favourite, the salt on the fettuccine could have toned down a little, it was fairly salty and difficult to eat without having a drink in between bites, the beetroot carpaccio was average however we could of done without. The lamb main was nice and tender and well seasoned. Would come back again to try the other dishes. Lovely place and prices are decent.

My wife and I will went out for dinner for my birthday. It was a nice dinner but nothing special. The food was a highlight, with great flavour combinations, however, the portion sizes were comically small. We ordered four starters, two entrees, two mains and a side, between the two of us that are not particularly big eaters. It is the first time we have left a restaurant and had to eat again afterwards. The drinks menu was interesting with a few beers I hadn't tried before and one or two new wine blends from overseas. Although, the wine by the glass was on the expensive side with most wines between $15 and $20 per glass. In the end, it was a nice dinner but there are plenty of modern restaurants in Melbourne for a similar price that will provide a much better overall experience - Epocha, Hell of the North and Cutler Co are a few that come to mind.

Meagre portion sizes,, especially problematic if you are sharing serves which is what they suggest. Interesting flavours, asparagus with wild garlic sauce is to die for, stracciatella (Di bufala) cheese with peas, onion and peashoots was terrific, 1/2 chicken tender and flavoursome with Chinese greens, but a drumstick proved a little undercooked. Desert choice of three, the brown bread with brown sugar is a mousse, so no bread in sight and tepid. Generally the menu does not adequately describe the food, which is a strange approach as most diners would prefer to know if a dish is served cold/raw or cooked, and a reasonable description of the ingredients. Ie no bread in the brown bread desert. Nice atmosphere , music is unobtrusive, front of house dry welcoming , efficient and generally friendly wait staff.

Hands down the best dining experience I've had in Australia. Casual fine dining at its finest. Most of the menu is built to cater to the minefield that is Melbourne's dietary requirement heavy diners. For those of you less fussy, you won't even realise or care that you're eating predominantly GF, DF and vego foods. It's so delicious! The amount of flavour these guys put into a single dish of pumpkin is outstanding. That's not to say they don't do meat well, it's all superb. I highly recommend you ask your waiter to look after you with the set menu. Just sit back, relax, and let the night escape you.

I was extremely satisfied & truly impressed with ambiance, decor, the staff, owner, head chef .. & of course the delicious, very tasty food that me & my dearest beautiful amiga Jules ate yesterday for our lunch. I definitely will recommend this place to my friends here in Melbourne.. plus any relatives & friends who are coming to visit me in the future!!!
