Very different from what might be called Typical Mexican. We tried several plates and found we only really liked the fried cauliflower. The others weren't bad just not great.

Lovely to be out and about exploring Chapel St. I popped into @FondaMexican and got the Mexico City Pulled Pork quesadilla with baby spinach, fresh pineapple salsa & mild chilli. Served with a side of Jane Fonda salsa. This is a lovely light meal. A nice crispy tortilla sandwiches tender pulled pork and an array of fresh ingredients in the salsa are bursting with flavour. It’s a beautiful restaurant with a great set up. It will definitely catch your eyes on the Chapel Street. The food was delicious with their set menu worth every penny. Their drinks could have been better but apart from that the chicken burrito and chips were just absolutely remarkable!

Very popular mexican restaurant on chapel street. We wanted to sit on the rooftop however had to wait for a space. Whilst waiting we ended up finishing our food anyway at the tables outdoors (for this reason I highly recommend you book in advance if you want the rooftop). Food was pretty good. The nachos were delicious, colourful mexican food. Tacos filling was very nice, but the corn tortillas had that yucky chemical-like aftertaste that i’m not a fan of. Otherwise enjoyable.

Overall its OK. Atmosphere was nice and waiters were very friendly. However the price is quite high and portions small, averaging about $8 for a single taco. As far as I could tell, the only tortilla for tacos was corn based, which is good if youre gluten intoleranant, but i personally don't like the texture nor lack of structure of corn tortillas and I'm sure I'm not alone. I can't imagine it would be hard to implement wheat as an option. For this reason and the portion to price ratio its a 3/5 for me.

Thank God that we still take risks of ordering from the most unusual places even after some bad experiences or how would we come.across this gem? Were completely smitten by their slow cooked beef burrito. And their Chicken Quesadilla weren't bad top. Loved the smoky, herbed chipotle chips too... Definitely among our favorites.

Had been here on a Friday evening. Place is quite busy and better if a table is booked in advance. It has nice interior and good range of vegetarian options. Sir veza beer was good, we loved it. When we entered we were given a table and told that shortly someone would help us with menu and water, but nobody turned up. So we did help ourselves. Food was okay, I felt Fonda restaurant in city is better. There weren’t any beans in beans an falafel burrito!

Loving the chill & casual vibes here and a great place to catch up with friends! My go to dish is the king fish tostada, chipotle chips and my favourite drink is the horchata! This place is consistently good. Food arrives in food time and the service is always great too. Has a good rooftop space for larger groups and also an outdoor area in front which makes it fur baby friendly! Ample parking along side streets. Will be back soon!

This place is a definite visit when in melbourne, the food is so great and flavourful. There is a great array of different dishes, from very meaty to vegetarian. It is a designed beautifully as well. They have great staff who look after you and are happy to be there when you need them, but not the over service if some places. It is certainly the place to visit no matter the time.of the day or year.

Relatively upmarket Mexican food restaurant in a trendy part of town. The restaurant itself is quite large with a rooftop bar. The menu is extensive and service is reasonable. Horchata is delicious and they also do some pretty nice margaritas. I also love their house made chilli sauce. I would have given a five star, but took one off because their wifi (which is advertised on the menu as “free wifi” wasn’t working, and our waiter couldn’t care less. I suspect it had been down for a long time and will probably not be fixed for a long time. I expect better when paying over $40 per head to dine there.

Nachos were super tasty and really loved the pampelle spritz! Would be good to offer guac/sour cream as an add on to the burritos and quesadillas, the burrito in particular was on the dryer side of life. Amazing flavours across the board though.

Loved the rooftop! It was open but warm (heaters) in the cold Melbourne weather. We stayed here for three hours and had a great time with great service. Food was good but I wish you would allow swaps in their set menus. Otherwise, had a jolly good time with friends.

The food was good and the staff very friendly and helpful. The reason I have given 3 stars is due to the fact that we didn't receive a physical menu, and had to order it via our phone through the app. Payment is also done through the app. This reduces customer experience in my opinion. Additionally, the kitchen shuts early (9:00 PM) and we felt as if we were rushed out by the staff.

As with most people I know we have raved about Fonda for years as the place to get a great quick meal or delivery. But we decide to eat in for first time since pre lockdown and were treated with food colder than an uber eats delivery order on peak Saturday night trade. Yes it's fine that we now order via QR code and you still managed to forget one of our ordered items. But just not sure how the service and food temperature can be worse when your 2m from the kitchen. Sorry you have lost me.

Sometimes you just want really great Mexican food and a frozen margarita (the watermelon one is sensational) and Fonda is the place for you! They have a great range of vegan options and the pumpkin taco was 10 out of 10. The nachos were also really delicious. We came for lunch and it wasn't super busy and we got a table right away. I came here the other evening with my partner, the staff are amazing and so so friendly - the service is great. We had the corn chips as a snack, which were soooo good. Unfortunately, the other food we ordered was not so good. We ordered the pulled pork quesadilla and the prawn tacos, which would have been really good but they were ruined by an excessive amount of pineapple! I have never had pineapple with Mexican, and I really didn't like the sweetness it added to the food. Especially, as it was canned and it was extra sweet!

The highball / spirit mixers are super unique as they're made in house from fruit combinations you will never be able to buy in store. They also have about 5 or 6 different margarita flavours. Finally the food is on point, with delicious salsas and delectable ingredients. Highly recommend if you're looking to grab Mexican for dinner and drinks!

Been a few times. The food comes out pretty quick and consistently good in quality. It's great to go and get a few dishes to share, which also makes it not too expensive with a drink across the visit. Staff are very friendly and the facilities are clean. If you're looking for Mexican on Chapel, its the place to go!

Love this place. Fish tacos are great and the hot sauce is the bomb. Great sized venue and rooftop but it's frankly ridiculous that you can't eat up there, because they let people smoke up there. If you want to smoke, go outside.

Great food. Pity about the service. If you go try the fried green tomato taco (I’m old enough to remember the movie) and the falafel burrito. Enjoyed the super fresh ingredients and flavour combinations. Didn’t enjoy seeing my burrito sitting on the counter for several minutes after my friends had been served. Really enjoyed the meal but the service could do with a dusting off.

Best Fish taco I have ever had! Other than that, it's a decent restaurant, with a good vibe and good for a casual dining experience. New rooftop area at Chapel str is also nice on a sunny day (when it is not too hot, else you will burn to a crisp). Very noisy when it's full (Sat nights particularly), and they pull the old "sorry but there are no tables available for 15 minutes - why not go for a drink at the bar and wait". It's my favourite mexican chain within Melbourne. This one in particular has table service but I wish service staff wouldn't phrase it as "do you know how table service works" like lmao yes i've been to a restaurant before. The tacos are the best - especially the sweet potato. I came here last before they changed the menu slightly and the bowl tasted like rabbit food (not enough mixture of flavours and textures) but since been removed. The drinks are perfection - especially the Strawberry & Mint non-alcoholic soda mix.

Great restaurant I've been a number of times to the one in Richmond as well as Windsor. Came in for dinner. They were full so we decided to get a drink upstairs to wait for a table. Unfortunately the table never got reserved. We ended up following up and pushed for a table - and finally got one. Food was excellent, as was the cocktails. Its just a shame about the table booking.

Instead of picking dishes we allowed her to give us a surprise menu and we weren’t disappointed. Do yourself a favour and ask for the surprise menu, you are guaranteed for some great food.

Our favourite Fonda. Come here nearly on a weekly basis. Love the ample window seats to watch the world go by, and the friendly and cool staff who know when you want to chat, and when you just want a fish burrito (seriously. If you haven't had this yet, you are missing out) The tortilla crisps with guacamole are a must, as are the salads and of course; the tacos. Their frozen margarita's are amazing, but very filling, two of those bad boys and you'll be having a liquid lunch.

Great place, $$, quick service. You take a seat and order directly at the counter. 4 slices of quesadilla $18 and one margarita the same. Food was delicious, however my quesadilla lacked cheese - this usually keeps them together and "encapsulates" the filling, but the ones at fonda were filled with heaps of freshly chopped tomatoes and vegetables that fell out very easily and soaked the bread, so it broke.

Very good and delicious but there is a queue and a wait at the Chadstone one, which is not great. Plus, at Chadstone (not Chapel Street) they hide the bottles of spicy sauces and unless you know to ask for them you'll miss out. Therefore, the Fonda on Chapel Street wins hands down for service and getting a table. The Chadstone place is too busy, noisy and rushed, a bit of a conveyor belt. The food is expensive but hey, they're filling a niche. Open for disruption from some real Mexican newcomers. Come on!

Highly popular Mexican place. Had to wait 30 mins for a table, which wasn't a problem. You provide them with your phone number and they text you when the able is ready. Plenty of places to go in the area while waiting. Order at a counter for food (i.e. no table service). Food is good, but personally I prefer some other Mexican places.

Bad Experience turned into 5 star Service and Experience We ordered via Uber eats and found that more than 50% of our items were missing. We called Fonda and they directed us to Uber. We couldn't call Uber as they didn't have a direct number. After waiting for another 10 mins for Uber to get back via their app we couldn't wait any longer as we were starving. We called Fonda again and the manager advised us to come by and that he would make up the food and have it ready.
