The staff are always super friendly, the food is always fresh and delicious and the portion sizes are so good! I always without a doubt look forward to going to Hunky Dory every time! Can do no wrong! My go to meal would be: the Calamari with alad and chips - absolutely delicious!!

One of the best tasting fish and chips in town! This was my go to fish and chips shop when I used to live at Port Melbourne. Visited it again after a while. Delicious food as usual. Fish was cripy and flakey. Chips were properly seasoned. Grilled fish options are great too!

Food is great service is on point great, despite how busy it gets and not much room the staff can really good it together and do it in a positive way. This place can be quite busy so don't be surprised if you just waltz down and there's no tables left. My Partner & I both ordered the grilled seafood salad, which came with the THINEST piece of fish - it was like they only served one piece of fish between us, & slithered it in half! Great place to sit and have a good meal of fish and chips. Lots of choices on the menu. Good size servings. If you sit outside you will need to watch the locals. They will steal the food off your plate, so be on your guard. Grilled barra was good. Only disappointment was they don't serve coffee.

Been to most branches of HD but this one definitely feels different/better. Not sure if it the vicinity to the beach or the store fitout but you will not be disappointed with the seafood grill with the side of salad (and chips). Expect a bit of wait during peak the of lunch and dinner but take that as a sign of quality. If you're still tossing up between different options (and there are plenty of around here), have a look at the pics that show the menus as well as the display fridge showcasing the fresh fishes...

This is one of my favorite fish and chips joint. I love the outdoor seating that they offer and in winter, there is a heater located on top so that we won’t freeze eating our favorite fish and chips. The service is always friendly and the servers are very efficient and always helpful! Food wise, oh, we love to share the fish for 2 meals, and we always hv some difficulty finishing the chips. One tip for customers: the chips are more than sufficient for 3-4 pax (unless you are a chips fiend), and what you can do is to order additional fish and just share the chips from the couple’s meal. Fish is always fresh and the chips are always crispy. All in all a wonderful experience for fish n chips lovers.

I love the fish here. My favourite is currently the blue grenadier. It's lovely fried with the chips and potato cakes. Even better grilled with the couscous salad. If you're keen on a little spicy kick, the spiced cauliflower salad is yummy too. The staff here a super friendly too. I have gotten multiple takeaways from here. All in my own container!

We chose to visit based on the ratings and were definitely pleased with the food, and the staff were helpful, courteous, and pleasant. Two grilled Barramundi withfresh salad, and tasty fresh chips, as well as salt and pepper calamari with the "super" salad which was cous cous in our case. All were generous serves. We also tried calamari rings, pawn cutlets, and potato cakes, all perfectly cooked and tasty. Everything was fresh and great quality. We'll definitely aim to come back again!

Tried the Hunky Dory as the name suggests. It comes with a piece of chicken, fish, potato cake and something else I couldn't identify but is good nonetheless. Overall, the fish is really good. In fact, one of the better ones I'd say. The chicken is not too bad either. The potato cake, however, was a little tough and cold if I might add. Otherwise, this meal is very worth its price!

There were so many chips, no way the 2 of us could finish it. We normally go for the grilled calamari and salad which is highly recommended too. Food was cooked exceptionally well with fair reasonable prices, atmosphere is great and service is well managed even when it gets busy. Would've been a 5 star rating, except for the fact the young lady at the door (team leader I assume) seemed to think screaming at her team mates (service team) was the most appropriate form of communication. It was loud and annoying, and I could sense the unease amongst the staff. It seemed like she knows exactly how to do her job, but communication is off putting, especially if you are next to her when she's barking orders. My husband and I just had the BEST fish and chip experience that we’ve had in years! The prawn cutlets were to die for, and don’t even get me started on the calamari rings or the potato cakes! The real winner was how they went above and beyond the menu to do crumbed, which was the best crumb I have ever experienced! Absolutely Love this place. This restaurant is a branch of a popular seafood franchise. In warm weather & cold the pavement seating is always occupied. There is also some inside seating available...It's always absolutely heaving though so you have to be patient and grab a seat as soon as it's available or else get it to go (Port Melbourne beach is very close, although always very windy). They serve best fish and chips I have had in a long time ... good servings, and mostly friendly service. It was very busy when we visited but the food arrived quickly. We had a variety of meals at our table, and everything looked fantastic - everybody was really happy with their meals. The salt and pepper calamari was fabulous and the feedback on the Ocean Eleven means I'll be having that the next time I visit! The great thing about Hunky Dory is having choices, loads of different types of fish and seafood to have lots of different ways. Good combos mean the menu is clear and you'll get what you want, the way you want it.

Not sure about the chips as don't eat them, but they look good. The grilled scallops, chargrilled calamari, grilled salmon and kale and spinach salad are a real treat when you don't feel like cooking, and it's still really healthy so no guilt-factor. Lastnight the service and food was incredible, considering how busy they were they made sure to accommodate to everybody’s needs. A tall girl with long brown hair who I didn’t get the name of, was unbelievably polite and bubbly. As I arrived she was dealing with a stressed customer but politely handed her to a manager who went above and beyond to ensure she was looked after. Highly recommend this place!

What a fabulous, clean, well run establishment! I could not give it any less than 5 stars. The waitstaff from the beginning were nothing but lovely. In the time it took for me to run inside and place my order, my pampered pooch was presented with her own water bowl. Promptly after, I was presented with one of the most outstanding meals "old school" fish and chips. The fish was amazing, cutting through the most crispy batter and into a beautifully cooked piece of fish that just fell apart on my fork and melted in my mouth. The chips as well were a delight, so hot and crispy. A special shout out to the amazing waitstaff, who made my dining experience outstanding. I could not fault this establishment. A great dining experience, above and beyond what I expected from a "normal" fish and chippery. If I'm ever in the area again, I will be sure to return.

I would never recommend ordering any seafood or fish and chips from uber eats. It's always best to take away yourself or relax and eat inside. Try their poke bowls are nice addition to the menu.

We have been customers to hunky dory port Melbourne for 7 years. We have just been for a lunch which wasn't the same. Last time I've been was on boxing day 2019, I ordered African and it was the usual delicious which made the restaurant still my favourite in Melbourne, but this time I ordered African again and it was totally different in taste and fish portions. The cost has risen aswell for our usual order for a lower range meal. This is disappointing. I praised this restaurant to my family and friends on such a high scale, but am worried that it may have been deminished from my last visit. I hope it returns to the way it was. 😟

By far the best one of the hunky dory shops. The fish is delicious and the person behind the till - maybe a manager, he’s super friendly and happy to help with anything you need. The staff greet you with a smile (front and even back of house when they hand you the food for takeaway) and acknowledge you’re there. I would visit again.

I haven't been for a few years but it wasn't that great today. The grilled flake was over cooked, the chips dry, the rice tasted like the microwave type. Marinated calamari was cooked well but I don't love the marinade although that could be just me. The battered and fried calamari was tasty but the actual calamari tiny. We also had some other bits on the table like whiting and rice salad but I didn't try them to be able to comment. The service was great and food came out fast at a busy time but overall it was no better than the average local from years gone by.
