A very nice place for brunch or lunch. Spacious and got a very good atmosphere to chill where surrounded by heaps of cute cockatoos. Staff were friendly. Their foods and drinks were average though.
Overall it’s a cool spot to stop by :)
M. T.
Nice place with a great view inside, if you are lucky to sit beside the window and watch Cockatoos. Loved the coffee and the fact they had Lactose free milk available for my wife. Scones are the best ✌️
H. C.
Service- staff are helpful and very quick moving.
Food- Scones are great, quite standard. Ordered the pancakes as well but it’s fairly small portion and it’s not the common pancakes that you get from other places. 🥞
Not my type of pancakes unfortunately.
(Still don’t know what’s the white thing in the pancake dish)
Environment- decoration are good with nice wallpapers in the bathroom. Outdoor space to the back parking area has many birds
Advices: fix the hand washing chemical dispenser
Would come again for other items on the menu if it’s on the way.

Visited on a wet Saturday afternoon, made a booking in advance so we didn’t have to wait for a table or sit outside - so glad we did this!
The setting is beautiful! Very warm and welcoming on a cold, rainy day! The decorations inside were very cute and “old school”. They had some locally sourced honey in jars and post cards for sale too! Staff were friendly and nice! There were also a good array of cakes and pastries to choose from at the counter.
The drinks we ordered were lovely! The chai had great flavour and was so easy to drink, the perfect sweetness too. The coffees came piping hot and were good and strong.
We ordered 2 serves of scones, they were huge and came piping hot right out of the oven, we received 2 types of jam, one blackberry and raspberry i think. Both were good.
The chocolate and raspberry cake was very rich and decadent, but a smidge too sweet for my liking. it was hard to finish the whole piece of cake because of how rich, chocolatey and sweet it was. The side of cream it came was a good contrast.
Overall, we had a really good time and experience here and would definitely recommend to friends and revisit!
📸 Scones with jam and cream, Chocolate came with raspberry, Prana Chai, Large Flat White, Small Latte

It was a beautiful day for a drive through the mountain trees in the Dandenongs. The Mrs wanted Scones so off we went. The Scones were my wife's best ones she's ever tasted. So it was a great choice to stop at on this beautiful day. My lemon meringue pie was great as well. Our coffees were a great addition to our seating. Great food and drinks, what else do you need?
L. P.
Top-notch service! the owner is very attentive to make sure all the customers are looked after. Best scone in town. Haven’t had anything better in Melbourne. We’ll see you next time.

Kallista Tea Room has been on my to-visit list for a while and when we decided to drop in, at lunch on a weekday, I was very pleasantly surprised.
Let's talk food: AMAZING. I had the chilli eggs and would heartily recommend: just the right amount of kick and full of flavour. Hubby had the brioche french toast, slightly elevated from your typical fare by the delicious addition of pear compote and coconut custard. A must have for all the sweet tooths out there. The prices were maybe a touch on the dearer side (think tourist pricing) though I personally think reasonable enough for the quality.
As far as atmosphere think ecclectic-bush-hole-in-the-wall; a big tick in my book. With a laid-back, chill vibe it's perfect for a long, gossipy cuppa or just a quick bite to eat.
Of note and one of the HUGE highlights for me was the picturesque native cockatoo viewing: free with lunch. The interior of the cafe has a section with this glorious picture window showing the local winged residents chilling, pruning and putting on a free show. It was as unexpected as it was delightful.
I'll definitely be back: the high tea is calling my name.
M. F.
Food is really nice and the old dance studio location is pretty cool.
They are very slow though on busy days, we waited 45 minutes for 2 coffees and 2 toasties. Would still go again.
The cockatoo feeding station out the back is a nice feature.
V.
It was before allthelockdowns that we were last here. But food and service still excellent.
Thescones are, as always, heavenly.
Well worth the drive up the mountain
J. M.
A lovely spot for brunch or lunch. The staff were very friendly, though they were clearly run off their feet. The iced mocha is delicious, as is the Turkish coffee. The burger bun wasn't particularly fresh but the food was otherwise great.
Definitely worth booking ahead as it's clearly very popular!
M.
The scones are amazing! They serve them hot and fresh from the oven.
The fries and corn fritters we got were like warm so fine but not great. But the staff are lovely and seriously, the scones, coffee and Lindt hot chocolates are so worth it!!
Well behaved dogs on lead are also allowed at the outside tables!
S. W.
This place is wonderful. I struggle with choice, needing gluten and dairy-free. This often limits my experience. NOT HERE - they cater brilliantly for intolerances without forgoing on taste.
The peach GF pancakes with DF coconut custard are to die for. Absolute heaven. I'll be driving from Melbourne just to try the next thing on the menu.
a.
This cafe used to be one of my favourites, with a delicious and diverse menu including many vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options. However the menu has since changed and is underwhelming, followed by more disappointment with the quality of food that is served. They still do great scones though, only reason I am giving 3 stars.
M. H.
Such a surprise to find how much we liked this venue on our first visit to this cafe which has been here forever. We live in eastern suburbs but had never made it here. I thought it might be a very tired tourist venue but it was homely and fresh. Loved watching the cockatoos in the tree outside the window. The homemade soup was very good. I will definitely return. Mid week was not busy. Parking is down a steep driveway and the walk back to the entry took a little bit of effort for my 65 year old body. Get dropped off at the top if you need a more level access.
A. G.
Excellent customer service, great view, and delicious food. Definitely, I'll be back again.
L. L.
Kallista Tea Rooms is one of those places you visit and even before leaving, you’re already planning your next visit. It’s a gem. People and Service -great! Food- great! Ambiance-great! Value - great! Oh and the sight of birds perched on the trees is a wonderful experience There’s not a lot of places that you can find that ticked all these boxes. Make sure you make reservations on weekends and holidays. It’s definitely worth the trip to Kallista.
M. S.
Good service, nice coffee , delicious scones, food average.
Soup was really salty and tasted of stock cubes, burger patty dry and tough. Pretty average food for the price. Scones were nice though.
P. B.
Had a lovely brunch experience today. Leafy quiet spot with plenty of outdoor space. Very pet friendly and the service was attentive, personal and welcoming. Also the best iced mocha I have had in my life and the French toast is a must try! Nemo and us look forward to visiting again whenever we are in the area!
D. X.
A perfect place to visit after our hike! We stopped by Kallista Tea Rooms on our way back from a hike and the food and service was lovely. There was a fantastic selection of desserts and meals to choose from, and lots of cockatoos to greet you outside!
L. O.
Couldn't have asked for a more perfect high tea.
I highly recommend this beautiful little tea room.
G. T.
Incredibly gorgeous place with incredible atmosphere & super-friendly service. Easy to find and on site carparking. Both indoor & outdoor seating. Fast & efficient with no pressure to leave. Meals are a good size & you won't leave hungry ...a must visit place...G
S.
Great service and lovely tasting food. Would have given five stars if not for the small size of my meal. For $18 I'd expect more than three pikelets when ordering the pancakes.
J. S.
Had breakfast today and the vegie stack I had was one of the best I have ever had! My partner also really enjoyed his pancakes. Nice ambience and good service also appreciated their Covid safe plan.
R. A.
Cute Art Deco cafe, with cockatoos as regular visitors! Hot coffee, and tasty food. I thought the banana pancakes were delicious, but left me a bit hungry - it wasn’t a generous serve for either of us - could have done with another pancake and another rasher of bacon. The other weird thing is they specifically asked if my partner wanted crispy bacon, and when it came, it wasn’t crispy at all?!
N. N.
Coffee was nice, breakfast nice and we loved being able to watch the cockatoos while having our meal.
C. S.
Love this historic iconic tea rooms. Just down the road from Alfred Gardens.
Not to be missed.
Devonshire Tea's to die for
N. W.
Scones / Devonshire tea is fantastic. Lindt hot chocolate great. However stay away from other food. Their omelette and mushrooms were horrific. My mum's eggs were horrible. If they can improve that, I'd honestly say this place is fantastic. It is very child friendly - a little playroom for the young ones, and a cockatoo hideaway. Brilliant for that part. I will be back for their Devonshire tea but sadly not breakfast or lunch.
S. K.
A very nice quiet place , loved the coffee, cakes & scones. The best place for fresh warm scones with nice cuppa and scenery of cockatoos 🙂
R. B.
The view was perfect, the coffee was good. But the food was just ok.
A. M.
A gorgeous cafe located amidst thick forest of Kalimna. It has a fascinating history and I was glad to see some of the original decor still intact and treasured. Cafe food at its best with a great range of specially curated tea flavours to suit everyone.
J. E.
Lovely historic building where they serve breakfast, lunch, scones and high tea. High tea must be booked in advance. Cooked breakfast was delicious. They have soy and almond milk, but no lactose free which was a little disappointing. Lots of options, friendly staff and reasonable prices in a lovely setting- what more could you ask for? Parking is behind the tea rooms.
C. P.
Nice location & ambience, friendly staff, food was decent.
D. P.
Stopped by and enjoyed a great atmosphere as well as amazing hot chocolate White was so yummy. Also sitting by the windows with the birds right next to us was amazing. The service was great lovely staff scones and fresh made jams were lovely.
Toilets were clean and the whole shop was just lovely from the local teas to the paintings on the wall.
Definitely a place to stop if you are visiting #mtdandenong #Kallistatearooms
N. K.
Had lovely scones. Service was excellent. There are also lots of beautiful birds that you could see from the windows and that adds to the fantastic atmosphere.
K. K.
I came down from Sydney to come to Kallista tea Rooms for Devonshire Tea with my mum and my sister…. I have to say that they have the best and biggest scones… real mixed berry jam and real thick cream… I highly recommend it here… Please consider a visit.. Best on the mountain 👍😋😋😋
S. G.
Nice cafe in the heart of the Nature, nice cosy place. Good customer service, happy and cheerful faces, Sam really know how to make the customer happy.
V. C.
A nice tea house with a beautiful tree outside of the window. Lots of sulphur-crested cockatoos on that tree. They are very popular/busy and the service can be a bit slow.
T. T.
One of the most gorgeous buildings in the Dandenongs is the art deco home of Kallista Tea Rooms. The gorgeous setting is matched by a diverse and well prepared menu with plenty of options. Industry Beans coffee, welcoming friendly service, delicious shakes and drinks, beautiful eggs and all the rest. Very popular, so book or aim to arrive early. Nonetheless, service is prompt and the overall experience a really good one.
H. W.
AMAZING! we where served by a super lovely girl with incredible customer service, I did ask one of the other staff what her name was and I believe she said “Nian”? I apologise girl if I spelt your name wrong but shout out to you because you made my day 😁! All the other staff where lovely too so shout out to everyone. Also anyone who goes here you must use the bathroom they are the most beautiful bathrooms, and in my boyfriends words you must “ peep the hand soap dispensers”.The fluffiness of the scones defies science; and they have blankets if you are cold. They deserve a 1000/10 .
A. L.
Great food, ok service. We oldered five dishes n Dev scones (around ~$100). Love every dish we oldered, especially the cauliflour, homebaked bean, and vege stack. Need to improve on customer service. I can tell the lady who served us tried her best to be polite by only talk to me. Welcoming customer service will push ur business to the next level.
S. B.
Set in beautiful and calm surrounds. Staff was polite, accomodating and friendly. Coffee and food quality was quite average. The Prana Chai was very good.
D.
We ordered: Vegan Smashbrowns & Shrooms $20, Mexi Baked Beans $18, Corn Fritters $18, House Smoked Salmon & Hashbrown $21, Vegan Brown Rice Rosotto $20.5, and the Apple Pie Pancakes $18. All included great quality fresh ingredients, were cooked and prepared perfectly, and were absolutely delicious - just bursting with a range of well mixed flavours. We also tried their scones, lindt hot chocolates and a range of interesting teas. This place is a gem, and the view, the atmosphere and the friendly staff were the icing on the cake. I'd highly recommend this place.
N. C.
Friendly service and very yummy food. Good atmosphere especially with native birds coming up to the window! Will be back and would recommend for a great breakfast
Food menu was a bit basic but well done and good serving size
Would be a great place for a small function too
C. O.
These Tea Rooms have recently been reburbished. What hasnt changed is their good quality food & friendly service. They even grow some of their fresh produce. The only down side is when eating outside is the close proximity to the road.
M. N.
A lovely open space with indoor and outdoor seating. The food is delicious and the beverages are on point.
J. G.
Great place for afternoon tea and coffee. Scones were lovely. Ask for the table by the big window. This is where they feed the cockatoos and rosellas, right at the window. Wonderful!
N. S.
Great food, gorgeous friendly helpful staff in an art deco cafe with a kid friendly attitude
E. H.
Great cosy tea room with plenty of character and beautiful wood log fire. Great fora wintery day. Plenty of parking available. Great food and friendly staff. Can't wait to come back for high tea
C. C.
Cosy cafe with great food in a lovely setting. Vegan food is so delicious! A combustion log fire on the back area on winter days makes it more cosy. Play area for young children. Can get noisy & very busy. Book ahead to avoid disappointment & to get window seats & view visiting birds.
F.
Great place with excellent customer service. We visited on a very busy public holiday, staff remained calm and friendly whilst run off there feet. Special orders no problem, definitely coming back.
C. S.
Love this iconic tea rooms.
N. C.
Very lovely and pleasant area! Birds are amazing. Food was okay
M. E.
Stopped in here with my partner after we did a hike in the national park and thank god we did! The place is very cute, little tables that seat 4 making use of the beautiful big windows and some bench tables or couches to the right of the door for bigger groups. We decided on a late lunch followed by scones (no photo of these unfortunately, they were too yummy and went before I could get a snap of them). I went for the vegan smashbrown and shrooms. So delicious. Plenty of the different mushrooms with fresh dill, mint and parsley sitting atop a crispy potato smashbrown (kind of partially smashed potato shaped into a round cake. Very yum). The pesto on this is lip smacking good and the walnuts add a wonderful contrasting texture. My partner had the Breakie Bundle and said it was just as good as mine (which is a big compliment, he is fussy). The scones are huge! 1 serve easy covers 2 people. Fluffy with a nice crunchy outside, choice of 2 jams (strawberry or mixed berry) and cream. We will definitely be back asap!
Things to note:
- Their car park is just off the side road (there is an a-frame sign out front that we missed)
- The menu is seasonal and uses local ingredients, the garnishes and some parts of the dishes are sourced from their very own garden.
- There is a bird feeder just outside the windows by the tree, we saw 2 rosellas and a sulphar-crested cockatoo while we ate

The Kallista Tearooms has an art Deco architecture feel, maybe even earlier architecture looking at olden photos around the Cafe.
It has a lovely ambience about it, at times it can be busy and a bit noisy.
Today we came at 1pm, which was noisy busy but it quietened down after 2pm.
I ordered a White choc raspberry muffin and a Mug of Soy Chai, and also a seeded Sourdough with scrambled eggs, homemade Kimchi and Avocado and Black Earl Grey Tea. The scrambled eggs, Kimchi and avocado were really delicious! 😋
The menu prices are a bit more expensive, but it's a lovely afternoon tea experience.
H.
This morning we had a lovely breakfast at Kallista Tea Rooms. They were very busy so our meals took a little longer to come. The owner without any indication from us came over and apologised for the delay and offered us complimentary coffees. He then came and offered our puppy some treats. Very impressed with the service and our corn fritters were YUM!!!!!
C. K. N.
Delicious Devonshire teas - crumbly light scones with great home made jams - try the Mixed Berries jam for a change from traditional Strawberry Jam. The accompanying cream is to die for!
Fairly price and open everyday - if your up in Dandenong Ranges make sure you drop by for their Devonshire tea - they do have a large menu selections with cakes and breakfast items as well along with coffee and wines.
Among the various scones cafe up at Dandenong - I am off the opinion that Kallista Tea Rooms is one of the best - better than the other more known/famous Devonshire tea offerings in Dandenong ranges.
Make sure you don't miss this when your up and about at Dandenong Ranges.

Decent little place. Parking can be a little tricky. Had the beef gnocchi which was ok. Beef is good but the gnocchi tasted like bread dough. Affogato which looked like a failed experiment but tastes pretty good. Fruit juice which was pretty much straight out of bottle, ok… and a very very sweet cake. Nice and friendly staff but may have avoided eye contact at some cases
A. W.
Always love coming here. Yummy vegan food, friendly.staff, great atmosphere. All the locals love it.
b. b.
Outstanding service, speed and food quality. Was beautiful sitting out the front, Little road noise but with prompt service and hospitality we will be back!
C. C.
Great spot. Loads of beautiful birds to see and hear while you enjoy a great coffee and impressive menu.
O. B.
Very cute spot! Outdoor seating a plenty and lots of feathered friends. Food and coffee really good too
T.
What can I say? Good service, good food and good coffee. I had the chilli eggs and they were fantastic.
This place makes the Dandenong Ranges interesting.
J. D. S. V.
Amazing experience!
It has books and toys for kids, big tables, beautiful flowers, a lot of space and the dishes taste very good.
In the photo you can see a delicious cauliflower creme with cheese.
J. S.
Pure organic coffee nature flavours, I would try Chai with scones for next time.
J. H.
Lovely setting watching the cocktails outside whilst having a Devonshire tea
V. R.
Accidently booked wrong date online and turned up to tea room with 5 people, gentlemen was kind enough to accommodate us and organise a table. Atmosphere is very relaxed and comfortable, like sitting around someone's table in their home. Will definitely return. After being in lockdown for so long it was lovely to have such an enjoyable experience on one of our first outings as a family. Corn fritters are delicious and coffee is superb. Thank you so much for your hospitality 🌸
R. R. E.
Amazing GF and vegan options. Had the peach pancakes and they were to die for. Def recommend.
A. K.
Excellent coffee, nice food, but I wish they have some chocolate croissants for my morning fix.
Y. A.
Such a special menu, great coffee and a mesmerising bird show from the charismatic cockatoos in the free right outside the window!
B. G.
Great little spot! Old school charm with a wholesome menu at reasonable prices. Parking down the back. Lovely customer service. Totally worth a visit!!
k. v.
I went with my girls for high tea and we had a great experience. The service was wonderful, staff was very polite, place was beautiful with views and the food was so amazing. Everything that came with out high tea was so delicious. We ordered vegetarian and totally loved how the food was so fresh and the baked goods were freshly baked for high tea. I will go back for lunch next time.
K. M.
Our local and favourite. Relaxed atmosphere, splendid coffee and food with wonderful service.
J. B.
Lovely atmosphere inside, watching the birds through the window and the food was great.
M. L.
Service is good but food is very average. Dry hamburger, chips aren't cook.
Y. W.
Such a lovely place .We had High tea ,food was delicious, good service and amazing location with nature birds on your window view
J. B.
Absolutely wonderful experience here with high tea for my sister's birthday 🎉. The service, particularly from one waitress was beyond fantastic. She was caring and nurturing and went above and beyond to meet our needs. We felt really looked after.
The food was pleasant and the view of the cockatoos and the rosellas was glorious.
I would definitely go back for more and this time try out the cafe menu not just high tea. P.S. the bottomless Lindt hot chocolate was absolutely delicious.
Oh and they were very accommodating to cater for our dietary requirements including vegetarian and pregnancy.
A must visit!
D. S.
The food was excellent, wonderful scenery would highly recommend.
H. J.
Took 1 hour to get cheese board and chicken salad. The staff were friendly, food was fairly average apart from the scones which were lovely
M. T.
Legit the best scones!
The drink menu had such an amazing variety we didn't know which to choose.
Also great service 👌🏻
J. F.
Gorgeous. We had the corn fritters and then hot scones. All perfect.
J. R.
Wow what a great way to relax on a Sunday! The food here is deliciously fresh and wholesome. This place is food for the Soul on many levels. Definitely going back. Lovely staff and good service ✅👍
C. W.
Really good experience here with quality food and friendly service. Little one esp liked the cockatoos coming to visit outside the window. Really nice and relaxing spot. Would go back if in the area.
B. D.
Lovely place, great atmosphere and service. The food was great. Highly recommend their scones. And the tea is amazing too.
A. R.
Beautiful restaurant surrounded by nature and the large windows allow for the sun to shine through in the morning. We ordered the avo and sweet potato stack, tea rooms breakfast, scones and Berry smoothie. The scones and smoothie were definitely the highlight dishes. The scones are soft, warm and fresh and make for a great entrees or a great compliment to a tea or coffee.
E. a. V. S.
Used to be really good, they had a vegan chocolate cake option that was amazing. The last two times we've been the coffee is too bitter and strong, the wait time is over 45 Mins just for basics. Not many vegan or veg options like there used to be. Some staff are really unfriendly. Really don't understand why it's so busy here. Maybe they have good boring food options, but just nothing special anymore.
L. S.
Called in on spec as our restaurant booking elsewhere failed. Pleasant surroundings and staff. Reasonable menu and good food, although it did take a long time to come.
P. B. (. D.
Amazing scones and views of the birds are great for families.
D. T.
Relaxing spot in a natural setting with a homely feel. My friends and I especially liked the cockatoos that sat in the window. We had delicious scones and tea. Will be back for lunch!
M. B.
My favourite cafe in Melbourne, gorgeous location, incredible local produce and always feels welcoming. The first place on my ‘to visit’ list when Melbourne is out of lockdown.
G. L. R.
One of our favorite places. Deco style building, with a range of leaf teas, snacks and meal options catering for gf or vegan options. This place takes advantage of the natural slope that it is built on to attract birds to the treetops at window level. Elderly or disabled visitors can be dropped off at the front to avoid stairs. Otherwise there is ample parking at the rear. Staff are friendly and locally made craft and treats are available for purchase
K. R.
Probably under staff or just picked a bad day to go since Its really busy and wait about 40 min x my meal and unfortunately couldn't see any of the birds I was expecting as a highlight of the place, the food was pretty decent tho
S.
Loved the coffee. Nice location and friendly staffs.
J.
Scones were big, freshly baked, and so fluffy! Coffee was delicious too.
Keen to go back when I need a big energy boost and try their "bowl" size option for coffee which apparently has 5 shots in it!
c. r.
I used to come up to the tea rooms when i was a kid. The food was always yummy especially the scones. Well i came up today with a group of friends to celebrate my good friends birthday with a high tea. Wow the food is still amazing especially the scones. The atmosphere is still welcoming and relaxing. Thankyou
K. M. G.
Amazing place!
The best scones ever! 💞
A.
I took my Mum here for her 60th birthday, we had the High Tea and it was lovely. The service was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful. There was a very nice attention to detail with the food served and the coffee and tea were beautiful. Great relaxed atmosphere as well, with a great view of the trees and birds outside. We enjoyed it immensely, thanks guys :)
k. m.
Good place, small portions and a little bit pricey.
A. D.
A beautiful spot to chill and have something.
The menu gives you a variety of options.
Tea 🍵 and croissant 🥐 are recommended.
Prices match with Melbourne rates!
Parking space is offered for patrons.
J. N.
Absolutely lovely high tea! I've enjoyed this twice, and each time we've had great service and amazing food. From the tasty sandwiches to warm savouries and decadent dessert. Complimented with bottomless hot chocolate, tea and coffee. There are wonderful views of the surrounding tree and bird life too.
L. K.
Nice atmosphere friendly staff. Food is ok. Nice coffee
è. s.
Best soy milkshake ive ever had! Also the food was amazing.
J. M.
I used to come here as a kid, and was very glad to see that the character of the place still stood up to my nostalgic recollections. A wide range of options on the menu, and the quality of what I ordered was pretty good. The service was great.
A. W.
Great food but a bit too much traffic noise if you sit outside
C. R.
The Big Breakfast was delicious and staff were great.
R. J.
Fantastic service and experience
Very nice spot and view
Amazing foods and stuff
Thank you very much🙏🙏
👏👏👍👍☘️☘️❤️❤️
K. B.
Great place for a snack or lunch. Great atmosphere
B. F.
Great place. Good service. New owners doing their thing. Breakfast use to be amazing. Not so great this time. A little on the not so generous side and the toast and bacon were cold. Maybe a few tweeks serve it up hot. What you expect when you go out for a good breakfast.
M. K.
Great atmosphere, delicious food and the stuff are so kind. We'll definitely be back.
S. A. L.

Had Mediteranian Panini, it was so so... also had red latte (with ruibos tea powder) was something new to try but I wouldn't buy it again. Nice atmosphere though.
W. G.
We had a really good time when we had lunch here. They were friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. Covid requirements were in place. The first thing they did after we were seated was to give a child's menu to our 5 year old grandson which had drawings of each food option so he put in his order straight away (pancakes with ice cream and maple sauce) so he was happy. The menu also had colouring in sections and they provided crayons for him. They were thoughtful and helpful in that way for the whole time even though they were busy. There's a good choice of food at reasonable prices and we had no complaints at all about anything. Would recommend this place and we'll be back!
R. M.
We had a High Tea on 3/3/21 which was delightful. Ruby served us and barista was amazing, keeping us served with bottomless hot drinks. Food was wonderful, service was too and overall experience was faultless. Would highly recommend.
M. A.
Cute as! LOVE their scones. Gorgeous venue, and the native birds they attract to their large windows for guests to admire at a distance are a real treat!
H.
Love the "Cocatoo table", decent food, good staff and great location.
S. M.
The scones were delicious and blanket for outdoor setting was extra bonus...it seems they r quite busy so best to make a booking if u want to have a table indoor...beautiful place to sit down and have a codfee or lunch.
S. A.
Beautiful setting and serene atmosphere. Loved my long black and delicious breakfast with a French twist. Very friendly owners, they are always welcoming and ready for a nice conversation.
J.
Very attentive service. Absolutely delicious meal. Had the hash brown with mushrooms, feta and walnut crumble. Finished with scones. Could not fault a thing. They were very busy, yet managed to serve us in a timely manner. Would definitely return.
G. E.
Very nice food with a lovely view.
C. P.
Always a lovely place to have a snack and coffee. The Lindt Hot Chocolates are so good. 💛💛💛
R. C.
Food was delicious, lots of options and especially good if you are looking for veggie/vegan plates. There is a small play corner for kids which is nice - although it is right next to the toilet. Comfy sofa seating is also available, and lots of magazines around if you want to relax and read. Coffee is decent.

This place is lovely. Heaps of options for vegans on the menu. Feels like a dining room full of older people which us warming and friendly. The outside area is nice if you can get a table. Kids are careered for with toys and an art room
The tea and coffee is amazing.
B. Z.
We had a wonderful lunch at the Kallista Tea Rooms. Our meals and drinks were delicious, especially the scones and fairtrade hot chocolate. Most importantly for me, they have a solid understanding of serving gluten free food for people with coeliac disease. We'll definitely back next time we're in the Dandenongs :)
K. L.
I always love cafe with kids corner. And they even have colour pencils provided, so the kids can draw on the kid's menu and not leave their seats, perfect..
The food was good, the staff were very helpful and nice. Great services.
Easy to get there, nice and quiet location, with a lot of parking provided (remember it's always a struggle to find a parking in Sassafras).
Highly recommended.
Y. A.
Great food and homely atmosphere. Would go again if I'm in the area!
M. C.
Such a beautiful place and atmosphere, the service was so lovely. I had the the tofu omelette with hoisin sauce, I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious everything worked together and will now be adding hoisin sauce to my omelettes from now on. I also had the Lindt hot chocolate which was an absolute delight. Thank you for such a lovely breakfast and the most beautiful service. I can’t wait to come back regularly.
D. M.
Always happy with the service and the food. Quiche was good and fruit toast is epic. I have been coming here for 20 years and the current owners have really worked to restore this place to it's former glory!
f.
A good place for a cuppa in the Dandenongs. Coffee was a typical good Melbourne brew.
Eggs Benedict was incredible, though the wilted spinach could use a sause, maybe balsamic.
Scones had a touch of orange zest(?) in them which was quite interesting, though I think I prefer plain.
R. F.
This place is very "old world" and delightful that is why it is always busy. The food and service is very good and the scons are the best on that side of the Dandenongs. We know because we have been going there for over 40 years. It is a pity they don't still feed the kookaburra's at the windows any more but the cockies presence in the trees right next to the windows makes up for it.
K. G.
Lovely scones and great hot drink selection. Would recommend booking a table esp if want a good view as it gets very busy on weekends both lunch hour and the afternoon.
J. C.
Been here numerous times and always enjoy the cosy, warm atmosphere, friendly service and great food and coffee. Fathers' Day was no different, but what made it even better was that they accommodated us despite having more people come than what was originally booked. They were flat out,; tables all occupied, but managed to seat us even with extra people attending. The food was delicious. The rum 'n' raisin baked cheesecake simply topped off my main, which was a superb chicken pie with oven baked vegetables and an Aussie-made Stout. Service here is great and the staff are always really nice.
R. S.
Very pleasant food, quick service and friendly staff. Scones with jam & cream were fine but not outstanding. Burgers are generous and very good. Soups and light meals are probably the highlight- my chicken & asparagus soup was bland but well prepared and there is fresh pepper at the table.
There is off-street parking below the cafe, but it is very easy to miss the turning- approach at low speed or you'll miss it.
N. T.
Excellent friendly service, morning sun flooding half the cafe, very nice views. Good coffee, possibly get them to add extra shot if you prefer strong coffee. Food was perfect. Pumpkin seed sourdough was stand out. Eggs were rich and obviously local produce. Deserves 5 stars. Will be back again.
A. L.
Shoutout to my waitress Montana who was so welcoming and friendly, made my day!
Really enjoyed my visit and such a delicious lunch and friendly environment. 5 stars all round!
R. V.
The Kallista Tea Rooms has become my local for coffee, breakfasts, snacks, lunch, business meetings and amazing atmosphere. I have also enjoyed the occasional live music show and very frequent and great conversations with Sinan and Sara whom have really brought life and spirit to the venue and community. Thanks for kickstarting my day every day and for the very friendly, relaxing and enjoyable experience when I visit.
C. L.
Best prana chai I’ve had, I had the peppermint my friend had the turmeric. Slight hint of peppermint, fresh turmeric used. My friend is obsessed with the vegan french toast ( he’s not vegan) , there was quite a wait for food but it was a busy Sunday , and the chai filled us up. one suggestion~ handbag hook in women’s bathroom :)
N. B.
This was a very nice experience, coffee was great and the tea was too. The scones though a little expensive, must say $9 something was a bit of a shock at first, but having said that, they are probably the best we have had in any establishment very generous serve, as in, they are big, probably double the size of most and two of them and light and fluffy. The staff were very friendly and helpful, greeted with and smile and a bottle of water and that is before even look at the menu... very professional indeed... I am happy to recommended this establishment, and would be happy to go back any time.
A. R.
I had a mixed experience at the tea room.
Pros:
Firstly, the staff were lovely and very friendly/ accommodating which was nice. Next, the scones I ordered were delicious as I have heard from numerous people.
The drinks were lovely as well, nice coffee.
Cons:
My group ordered a breakfast baritto and toasted sandwich. Both food items were, to put bluntly, cold.
For the baritto, cheese and other fillings had not been melted in the slightest. Moreover, the 'warmth' of the meal should not be solely attributed to the hot sauce - which, in this case, it was. I noticed a person on the table next to mine share the same disgruntled look at this discovery.
For the toastie, the cheese was melted but the ham and tomato were not heated in any way. My companion is hardly fussy when it comes to food but she picked out the tomatoes. If she had known this would be the case, she told me she would have ordered a plain cheese toastie.
These problems would be easily fixed if the meals were served hot.
All in all, it was an okay experience. If you are after foods appropriate for an afternoon tea, this is the place. If you weren't... Well.
S. C.
Lovely historic Cafe. Excellent coffee, can't wait to come back and try the food.
Gets very busy at the moment, but worth the wait if you enjoy quality coffee.
Parking just down the steep driveway.
L. H.
Great food and service. My wife really liked the gluten free scones
G. P.
Lovely people and great food and drinks.
N. K.
The high tea experience was amazing
Friendly staff
C. P.
Lovely little place to drop in for food any time of the day.
Popular with both tourists and locals it usually isn't too hard to find a table.
Not the cheapest place but you pay for the good quality locally sourced produce.
They also cater for the lactose intolerant by offering soy and almond milk options.
H. T.
Exceptional tea room experience in Dandi ranges. The service is really friendly and I love the refreshing fragrance of their tea. Definitely a must go if you passing by.
D. T.
I always enjoy my visits. Pleasant surroundings, great menu, fabulous friendly staff - nothing is too much trouble for them.
Highly recommend a visit early in the day to see the cockatoos feeding right at eye level outside the window. They put on a good show! Great for overseas visitors :)
R. M.
Loved my visit to Kallista Tea Rooms, the team were really friendly and welcoming. They followed correct Covid Safe procedures and I felt comfortable. Loved seeing all the birds in the trees.
J. M.
It was our first visit to Kallista Tearooms last Thursday and it won’t be our last! We thoroughly enjoyed the food we ordered and the staff were very friendly! Lovely to watch the birds in tree outside!! We’ll be back!! ☕️☕️
L. K.
Lovely setting and a rustic feel inside. Hot chocolate was the best my husband has ever had. My soy cappuccino was beautiful. Service was a bit slow, but very friendly. Would be a great place to take overseas visitors.
A. F.
Excellent high tea. The food was delicious, as were all the drink options (lindt hot chocolates, peppermint tea etc). It was certainly more than enough food, but it was so hard to stop eating because it was all so good! They also cater for dietary requirements, including providing an excellent option for pregnant people. Will definitely come back here.
A. S.
Perfect place for breakfast. Prani chai is the best. Very good customer service.
G. M.
A great venue for Mother's Day. Booked in advance with final confirmation prior to the day.
Beautiful scones and cream in a cosy atmosphere. Plenty of other options were also available.
The staff were excellent on what was undoubtedly one of their busiest days of the year.
Parking can be a bit challenging (turn left immediately after the Tea Rooms down a steepish road)....take care when walking up to the Tea Rooms.
R. A.
Have been going here since I was little, the food is amazing and the Scones are the best I have ever had! Now I take my children and we enjoy it every time. Such a lovely location and well worth the drive!
S. A.
Coffee was so good I went in twice in 5 minutes. So glad they reopened, have been waiting to go back there for ages. Such nice people and nice touch up on the cafe. Looks lovely
M. N.
It is a nice place to have a meal or tea and scones for sure though the service was a bit slow when we were there. They have a very nice pumpkin sourdough
J. N.
Food was good. Very relaxing with no rush to move you on
R. M.
Fantastic service. Food was delicious!
T. E.
Very rustic. Plenty of parking. Excellent service. I had a Beetroot Fritter with fried cheese and salads, very enjoyable. Coffee was good too. Recommend it, but nothing fancy!
S. Y.
Helpful, friendly, and prompt service. The vegetarian options are yummy. I had the smash browns and shrooms and it was a solid, tasty menu item. The place is a little noisy and echoey. Some soft furnishings on the back wall and/or the roof would help alleviate this.
Overall, it was a good experience.
N. W.
Excellent as usual, Sandra and her staff, the beautiful food....ninth Hightea there.
G. G.
Nice setting among the trees. The scones were lovely and good, friendly service. I would have liked my main meal to be a bit warmer but overall it was a good place to stop and have a meal on a hot day.
G. B.
Great atmosphere and good food. Very busy for a week day lunch. Entertained by lots of cockatoos in tree outside in a large tree.
b. j.
I took my daughter for lunch today, and had the most amazing thai chicken stir fry together with the yummiest pulled pork roll. Honestly, this place is so nice, and the people there are so friendly and helpful. Nothing is a problem for them. It certainly beats all the places that I have been to locally . I will definitely be going back again, and would recommend it to anyone that wants a great meal.
P. D.
I've been here a few times and everytime the food and drinks a magnificent. There is such a diverse range of drinks and food, the view is spectacular and the Tearooms itself are beautiful. There are also gifts available to buy that a locally sourced from artists and food producers. The service is excellent and friendly.
P. X.
Wonderful little place with lovely ambience. It was perfect for delicious scones and tea on a cloudy, cool day.
A. P.
enjoyed a high tea session here. catered for vegetarian, the sandwhiches were nice. I suggest offering more than one type of tea though if someone wants to try more and more scones offered instead of half of one each.
D. K.
I always love going to this very quirky very lovely space the service is great the food is great and the atmosphere is fantastic . I always giggle at the tiny garden next to it . The only things I would say are the toilet needs a paint and the toilet screwed down properly. And bring back the Singapore noodles. They were magnificent . It's a very old but very unique building and if you like colourful birds you can watch them whilst you eat on the magnificent tree outside . All in all its a fantastic experience you have to try once.
A. K.
Beautiful fresh wholesome food and great service. We had " nourish bowls" mine was roast lamb thick shreds with hommus and a delightful herb salad. My friend had a salmon bowl with fresh thick smoked salmon fillet, mixed grains with a gorgeous mixed slaw. Fabulous coffee too. Parking is down behind the tearooms and quite a steep walk up to the building. Wiuld happily come again.
T. P.
Food = Quiche was flavoursome and heated through properly however, they were very heavy handed with the dressing on the accompanying salad. Not good. Ample serve of jam and cream with the scones (many places are stingy). Good.
Service = Depends. One young woman was garrulous and attentive but an older woman (manager?) forgot our tea (which we need to have with scones!). The result was our scones were either cold or finished. She simply said "Sorry!" and walked off. Poor. When we went to pay we were behind two men who wanted to split a bill for a table of 10! We waited behind them for 6 minutes while the older woman (again) tried to work out who had what etc. People started waiting behind us either to pay or for service. How ridiculous! Finally, the same younger woman took us aside and processed our payment (interrupting the older woman who still had no idea...even with a calculator).
Hint: Do not split bills. If individuals don't have the correct amount, that's their problem (they should work it out amongst themselves LATER). It should not be the cafe's not other customer's problem! Be aware of other people who are waiting. Never ignore them. Three stars only due to the younger waitress....otherwise it would have only been two.
Z. C.
Such happy and lovely staff, plus they have delicious vegan options like vegan brownies for example :) loved it!
S. P.
Friendly staff and prompt service. Excellent stop for a light meal in the Dandenong Ranges.
S. C.
Cosy tearooms surrounded by some beautiful forestry, we had a delightful afternoon tea here with family. The 40 minute wait on food and drinks even though they were not very busy was a bit disappointing, but the staff themselves were very accommodating and warm, and what we had to eat and drink was yummy.
P. M.
Was here yesterday with a party of 10. The last time I came here was about 10 years ago and they had planned feeding times for the kookaburra but I guess it's a new management now so they don't do that, they just fill up the feeder in the morning and if you're lucky, you might see some birds. We only saw one rosella in the one hour we were there. The coffee here was boring, too milky and not much taste. The cakes were all gluten free options, we tried the two Lindt ones, the hazelnut with mint was good, the chocolate, nothing special about it. The scones were a bit dry. Overall a disappointing place, if not for the quaint tea room appearance.
V. F.
Always busy and for good reason. The building dates back to the 50's; has a great selection on the menu; kids welcome... and most important... the scones.. try them they are SO GOOD!
s. p.
This gem is certainly worth visiting. Sitting in one of the backroads around Dandenongs, surrounded by forest, it has a nice view through a180° window wall. The setting is of a provincial look, like you stepped into a past.
The atmosphere is delicious, and so is the food. I had pulled lamb burger - highly recommended! More surprisingly though, I tried chocolate zucchini cake - what an unexpected combination! It looks like a rich chocolate cake, but it's light, airy and fluffy, very tasty!
Will come back 😊
J. S.
Always good food and a great atmosphere. Nice place to go to have a nice meal and a chat with family or friends.
R. A.
Such a scenic place to enjoy high tea or coffee and scones. The scones are to die for, best in Victoria, I highly recommend visiting if you are a tourist and want a scenic trip through the Dandenong ranges. The cafe is located right near the town and also very close to the bird feeding.
Kallista tea rooms has outdoor seating making it dog friendly. A serving of two scones will set you back just $9.50, the scones are huge and you'll easily be able to share a serving making it very affordable.
k. H.
Came here years ago, come up here recently, the place has been done up lovely. A great place to spend a bit afternoon time there, and the food is pretty good as well as long as the friendly people there.
C. J.
I think other reviewers said it all. Love the place. Good to see that the new owners since early 2011 are keeping with the theme and feel. I never tried the teas, the meal choices are just too good to pass! Can get a little busy on the weekends so book ahead.
A. K.
Old world meets modern life. Small menu but very delicious food. Small range of local foods. Great range of homemade cakes, or have a high-tea. If I'm in the area I always have a break here.
F. H.
Very nice atmosphere, friendly staff, very popular, delicious food.
M. M.
The best breakfast I have had in a very long time. Staff are over the top friendly and welcoming. Definitely worth the visit. But i suggest you make a booking as very popular. A must
D. W.
Have eaten here Many times. One of my favourite places in the Dandenong's. I take all of my friends here and they all love it. Food is always amazing. The place has a really nice atmosphere and they have a playroom for kids which is handy.
A. E.
Our new local favourite. Very attentive staff. Quick service but we go early to avoid the crush. Nice coffee. Good food adequate variety. Will be back at the weekend. Booking advised if going for lunch.
L. C.
Great spot with plenty of window seats to look out at the surrounds. Quality of food seems to drop pretty quickly when it gets busy. Otherwise not too bad.
D. L.
Lovely food, super friendly staff AND I got a free lesson in history and architecture! Awesome little eatery ❤️
H. F.
Great venue and good theme. Decent coffee
C. K.
One of the nicest places in the hills. Can get busy at times, but the food is phenomenonal, the coffee is divine and the staff and owners are very friendly. Parking is limited however and wheelchair users are out of luck when it comes to accessibility.
A. P.
KTR used to be our go-to place for brunch, however around the end of 2017 they seemed to change chef or menus and the food became really lacklustre. Sadly - we haven't been back since, which is a shame because the staff are amazingly friendly and just lovely to be around.
T. M.
Lovely restaurant, very cozy, great hot chocolate and a great mix of hot and cold beverages. Their cakes and scones are really good as well. Will definitely go back there.
A. W.
One of my absolute favourite places to go for food in the hills!
Service is always outstanding, food is always spot on, and there is a place for the kids to play.Ticks all the boxes.
Love LOVE Kallista Tea Rooms!
M. B.
Very good. Very kind waiter who fit us in to sit at a table when we explained to him we were just wanting to have scones and coffee
H. Q.
Absolutely fabulous, the atmosphere was priceless and the food next level good. I highly recommend this wonderful place.
B. M.
Best scones in the hills. Nice place to spend some quiet time. Have been a semi-regular here for near-on twenty years. Old-school charm, great historic photo's from back-in-the-day, and if you're lucky there'll be a visit from the native birdlife.
D.
Loved it. Can't say thank you enough for the awesome service and great food. Yummy BOWL of coffee. That's a big plus in my books. You must come and check this place out.
K. E.
Took a look at the reviews, thought we should give it a go and I'm so glad we did. Ok, from the outside it doesn't look anything that special, but don't let that put you off. Inside the staff were very attentive and the scones were scrummy - and thats coming from someone from Somerset, England!! Although on the side of a main road I didn't notice and major traffic noise and it does have a rear car park and some local birdlife.
A perfect place to relax after a trip on Puffing Billy.
J. R.
Great food here for breakfast and lunch. Coffee is made with consideration and care and the meals are a nice balance between not the boring and predictable and not the too strange and adventurous. Parking can be tricky but just take care and drive down the back a little.
L.
The restaurant itself is very nice, it has a very homey aesthetic. All of the food is relatively good, however some menu options are better than others. Over all it does lack a little bit of variety however the food is consistent in quality and all of it feels very homemade with lots of effort put into it.
A. F.
Homey and yummy food! The signal doesnt seem to work around the cafe but they provide u free wifi connection which helps. Really nice service and plenty of parking.
n. n.
My fav weekend cafe great service and food sitting outside with puppies or inside by the fire so cosy the staff are really engaging especially Liz who even holds me some lovely vegan chocolate cake yummy. Inside lovely decor
C. A.
Nice vibe and service. Lots of parking spaces and options in the menu. I was expecting the Lindt hot chocolate to be the creamy one, not milk with the actual chocolate inside, though.
L. C.
Friendly staff, prompt with the meals and drinks. Food was good, and the coffee nice and strong. We sat outside with our dog, no issues doing that.
T. “. M.
Relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast menu is quite varied and changes can be asked for. A popular spot so small service delays can be expected. But plan for that. Enjoy the place and food.
R. S.
Scones with jam and cream here are to die for!!! Also their tea fills you right up and is perfectly brewed - love this place
F. D.
Great place to take vegan and paleo friends. Iconic building with that wonderful curved window and ancient oak tree. Really good food and great coffee
J.
Food was nice I wish there were less vegan options though, I had trouble finding an option on the menu with meat that sounded really tasty
E. S.
Scones ham and cream are fantastic!!!
A. G.
Very warm welcome, great service and the coffees, scones, jam and cream most enjoyable
8.
Great coffee. Their food is fantastic too. Excellent Cafe. I come here a lot. It's definitely my favorite in the hills.
S. D.
Great food. More like a Cafe than a Tea Room which was great for us as we wanted brunch.
The Pulled Pork Scrabled Eggs were Yummy.
C. A.
Always love going here! Even if it’s busy, the staff really try and accommodate you. Beautiful real food!
S. C.
very friendly waitress with good food at reasonable price.
A. F.
Quaint little restaurant for all day breakfast, coffee and cake, or full lunch menu. Lovely people proving great service. It's a consistent favourite when in the area.
P. T.
Lovely outlook but a bit noisy inside. Service quite slow. Limited menu but food quite nice.
H. O.
Nice people, great service. Lovely food. However very noisy with music, loud talking etc made it hard to hear . Very busy the day I was there.
L. M.
Great cafe in the mountains. Lovely food and good coffee. The cockatoos are a particular highlight, as is the charming modernist architecture!
C. P.
Great place for tea and scones. The Loose leaf Chai Tea is so good.
D. P.
Fantastic food. Excellent team. Can't wait to go back.
M. T.
We love coming to the Kallista Tea Rooms - the food is always amazing (one of our favourites is the chilli bacon scramble), the coffee is great, the staff are lovely, and the ambiance is fantastic. Definitely one of our favourite spots.
P. W.
Very nice cafe in the Dandenong hills. Cockatoo's frequent also.
Food and drink are of good quality and quantity. Friendly staff. Recommended.

M. E.
Massive improvement since the last time i dropped in!! Great breakfast menu, awesome presentation; deliciousness upon deliciousness!! Thanks.
D. A.
Only had the coffee as a takeaway, good coffee but it's not necessary to weight the grind.
L. P.
One of our favourite local spots! Deliciously fresh and unusual pairings and great service. Always packed to the brim, bookings a must.
J. F.
Nice location and service. Prices a little high for me.
A.
Delicious Beetroot soup but very squishy.btiny tables not comfortable. No wheelchair access and we were moved 3 times! Just because we had no reservation. Not cool.
P. P.
I go here after my Saturday morning early shift for their all day breakfast KTR brekky bundle. Great food and friendly. Here again today grandly awesome as always. Back again 30/1. Awesome.
B. J.
Great coffee a little expensive
D. A.
The ingredients they use in the meals are top quality, but they aren't quite used to their full potential. It's also let down by an aging interior, the atmosphere was lively but it felt cluttered.
S. B.
gorgeous location, brilliant scones 😍
J. M.
Best scones on the mountain
A. R.
Beautiful food as always here. Friendly staff and lovely owner who is always accommodating of our large group!
C. L.
Nice view, and try to make a reservation if you don't wish to wait. Their homemade scone is a must-try definitely!
M. P.
Great service fantastic staff excellent coffee, scones could be improved.
S. M.
Delicious. Had the potato smash with mushies and poached eggs, and was very happy. Loads of mushrooms, nice crisp potato, perfectly poached eggs.

Great service. Good tasting food and flavour. Nice atmosphere.
Parking can be a bit difficult during peak times.
P. S.

Just had the best scones...nice and light with perfect moisture and the right amount of crumble...I want the recipe
L. P.
Great little place in the hills. Good portion size, freshly made (took a little while but it was worth the wait!) and very good coffee.
F. K.
Favourite breakfast place! Food consistently good, always great coffee and lovely atmosphere.
A. J.
Great service, lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. Also has a really cute bird feeder along one window which kept our daughter entertained for ages watching the birds come and go
a. r.
Good cafe with old building but remember to have some cash money because they do not accept cards less than 10$. Beware there is no cell phone signal.
N. S.
Amazing place, feel like in the middle of the forest, cozy and friendly staff, recommended +++
H. K. (.

Y. L.
The view from the window is gorgeous. Nice vibe with tasty muffin and aromatic tea.

C. S.
Quaint village, great menu with many vegetarian options.
H. M.
Great service and nice food. However, the noise inside can be quite bad. It is very hard to talk to friends with all of the vibrations and echoing.
R. T.
Scones, coffee and ambience is worth dropping in for.
P. S.
Always a pleasure to drop into the Tea Rooms. Friendly service and quality food at a reasonable price.

Food really nice. 1 server a bit terse, but that could have been because there was a power cut and people ask silly questions.
N. T.
Absolutely love this place! Perfect for brunch, lunch or coffee and cake!
A. F.
U can find typical brekkie menu here, coffee was not bad, and the best part was the environment, loved it.
