Was hoping for better. Booked a table for 3 via an online portal, yet, no table had been reserved for our party. We were sat near the open door, my head against the power board. Staff were friendly.
To the meal, coffee was average, more milky than I prefer. The meals were okay, the poached eggs tasted heavily of vinegar which wasn't pleasant. Happy to support this initiative of our indigenous flavours and enjoyed the other flavours. Presentation was pretty good. Our order was messed up a bit but the staff provided the missed side free of charge, not expected but appreciated.
Overall, was okay, but room for improvement.

Mabu Mabu is a smart and vibrant cafe offering unique tastes of Indiginenous Australians ingredients in contemporary style. Unfortunately our experience was not as great as others. Some of the herbs used in our meal were not fresh and the proteins were overcooked. On the positive note, their hot sauces, which are available over the counter, did deliver. Wish they can improve and execute their unique offerings well in the future.

Good to find First Australian food here. Emu bush taco dish and wallaby sausages were well liked by my guests. Vegetarian options were limited and average. Wattleseed latte was interesting. Purple cauliflower bush taco was very bland. Mabu waffle was too sweet.

Happened across this intriguing cafe by chance when our go to place was closed, and really glad we did. The offering of indigenous ingredients plus the fantastically friendly and knowledgeable staff made for a lunch quite out of the ordinary. All the food was great, but the pav for dessert (one serve easily big enough for the two of us) was amazing, a combination of crisp chocolate infused meringue with a touch of a fudge-like filling. Definitely bringing family and friends here for future dining delights.

Took my work crew there yesterday. Have to admit I was totally blown away by the quality of the food. All so lovely and fresh. Would definitely go back. thanks team Mabu!

I love Mabu Mabu and can’t wait for this cafe to reopen for breakfast please. Would love it if you could also add filter or pour over coffee though please. :)

A new store in South Melbourne market, probably the third store in that location in the last 9 months, that’s a bit scary- for the owners of Mabu Mabu. That being said they beamed me some sunny smiles and my curiosity got better of me so I timidly approach them.
I saw that they have two food options: sweet waffles and savoury waffles with a choice of 2 dips/ sauces, all made with indigenous Torres Strait ingredients.
I had kiddo with me so I didn’t want to go too full on with the chilli or have something too sweet, so I chose the savoury waffles w samphire dip and warrigal greens dip. The waffle actually looked like a cute Christmas tree, and they dressed it up with fresh samphire, macadamia and fresh flowers to make it look super pretty.
Taste-wise it was DELICIOUS! the waffles were slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the dips were super tasty & slightly different from the usual fare. The whole thing tasted really healthy, yet it was so yummy I could easily think it’s a treat and don’t feel deprived.
I hope it does well, although for $9 a pop I found it a bit too exxy. That being said I have heard that indigenous ingredients are quite expensive and hence maybe why the price is a bit steep. Nonetheless this will be my go-to breakfast/snack place if I go to the markets!

Very unpretentious and authentic plates of food - the damper was world class.

Had the most unexpectedly delicious brunch yesterday. We went to Mabu Mabu with an open mind looking to try something different. The food we ordered were Namas - cured kingfish, Blackened Purple Cabbage, Ginger and Tamarind Pipis, Emu Sausage and Wattleseed Latte.
They do native ingredients very well, food was totally delicious - every dish we had, well balanced and so very tasty. Definitely will be a regular there as there are more dishes to be had!! Service was excellent too!!

Had kingfish namas, were beautiful👌🏽

Delicious! Absolutely love every aspect of Mabu Mabu! Just wish they'd move to the northern suburbs so I could visit more often! Can't wait to visit again!

Had a mother's Day brunch here with my wife, toddler and baby. The grilled emu was fantastic, the coffee was great and the service was good. Importantly, we weren't made to feel uncomfortable despite us taking up room with a pram and our baby squawking every now and then. Special shout out to the waitress in the red overalls for dealing with the unbearable customer next to us with grace and professionalism. Love your work team!

My sister recently moved to Yarraville and had been to Mabu Mabu before and took myself and my partner here for lunch and I can see why she wanted to go back. The menu is so unique and Australian it's not for the faint hearted with menu options of emu and Kangaroo tail but if you do feel adventurous you will not be disappointed, food was delicious and the staff super friendly and helpful if you can't decide or need advice on the menu! FYI Emu fillet and Kangaroo Tail were a great choice!

Mabu Mabu was a tasty food experience, topped by friendly staff who happily guided us through the menu.
The flavours of our meals and drinks were on point!
We will definitely be back for more.
FYI...Mabu Mabu have gift vouchers...give the gift of taste sensation they will love it, as I did :)

This place has been on my radar for a while now and first time back in Melbourne I was straight there.
Did not disappoint!
Gorgeously lovely staff presented me with an incredible menu. It was very hard to choose. But I couldn't go past the emu which was absolutely perfect.
Not content with the food, I was so happy to stock up on all my favourite native spices in their wonderful pantry.
Can't wait to go back.

My partner and I came from the Northside of Melbourne to try out Mabu Mabu and it did not disappoint. The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgable and suggested the wattle-seed latte with macadamia milk - so awesome - a must try. We tried the emu fillet, emu sausage and kangaroo bourguignon - it was fannnnnnnntastic!!! We even ended up buying a bunch of hot sauces and spices to take home. I literally wanted to try everything. It was is so awesome to see a place dedicated to First Nations food. We will definitely make the effort again to come back and try the whole menu.

This was one of my biggest surprises to find this gem. I had emu tacos and sausage. I was immediately rewarded with a taste sensation. The staff are all so lovely. My 2 year old demolished a large bowl of Lemon aspen sea salt fries. I will be going back very soon to try all the other dishes. I have a new favourite In Yarraville.

Great quality food. We had emu tacos, cured fish and the massaman curry for take away dinner tonight. The cured fish and tacos were the highlight dishes. So much flavour. Portions were generous and the take away containers were environmentally friendly cardboard, not plastic. I will be back, and next time I will try the kangaroo!

Great cafe with fresh take on modern Australian cuisine incorporating indigenous influences.

We first tried Mabu Mabu's sauces and condiments when they were at South Melbourne market and were blown away. The food at the cafe builds on that and the brunches and coffees we've had have been delicious, memorable and I genuinely think it is the best cafe in the area. I look forward to checking out their delivery menu

Had been wanting to try this place for a while and it didn't disappoint. All of our group of 5 were vegan, and although the menu items didn't sound especially exciting (we're so spoilt for vegan food in Melbourne), it was INCREDIBLE. One of the best meals I've had in ages. What was even better was the incredible service. I can't recall a dining experience where I've been looked after so well. What a brilliant cafe - highly recommend.

Hot Eggs... So hot that is sooo good! Plus emu sausage 😊

This place could not be any better, the food is delicious and full of novel flavours. Can definitely recommend the house cured wild boar, and the kaarage style crocodile. The staff are lovely, the cakes are excellent and the wattle seed coffee is a personal favourite. Do yourself a favour and check it out, but it does get busy! I'm not the only person very happy to see this place open in Yarraville.

Trying to eat everything on this menu! Definitely worth trekking to Yarraville for. Take home spices and condiments are also excellent. Hard not to just order the same thing over and over, it was so good.

The best cafe meal I've had in a long time, and very generous serving sizes for the price.

Delicious Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island dishes, wide choice of beverages (many non-caffeine and non-alcoholic choices), excellent music selection, excellent service, heaps of native sauces, herbs and assorted ingredients available. Unmissable

Food was great but it was hard to attract staff for service - strange in such a small place. Would definitely go again.

I had a hibiscus granita, damper and kangaroo bourguignon and it was all excellent. The service was also incredible, please don't change a thing. I'll be back for the ground wattleseed for pavlovas :)
