Went on Friday for a meeting with a client, staff was great and steak was good too. The setup is what really attracted me with the glass to see the various cuts! Overall ambience and vibe is casual and chill. Only downside was the mash came out cold. However, it was fixed very quickly.

A great spot for you carnivores who loves a great steak cooked to perfection. I love the window of meat selections, they show you the good stuff for you to pick. They have a good variety of items on the menu, kids menu included and it's not going to cost you an arm and leg if you bring the kids along either.

T-Bone - Eye Fillet - Seasonal Greens - Sweet Potato Wedges So - we arrived one Friday night for a booking only to see a sign saying “closed early”. After expressing my disappointment, management offered me some credit to come back for dinner on the house, which was communicated very professionally and appreciated. The menu is very small so I was hoping for them to nail everything. The steaks were okay, mine was unfortunately undercooked (rare). I ate half and filled myself up on the wedges which were nice. Greens stock standard. Staff are super friendly, great service.

Even the sides (chips and salads) are simple and satisfying. I've been recommended here by a few friends and I can see why. Great for a casual steak dinner. We ordered the scotch fillet and Wagyu rump with sweet potato wedges and mash. The rump came quite underdone and the waiters apologised and took it back. Sweet potato wedges are fantastic and a must have! The mash was average, a bit bland and buttery - wouldn't order it again.

We ordered delivery tonight and placed quite a large order as, for the price, we were expecting excellent quality. Overall we were disappointed. The best thing by far was the order of pork ribs. They were really delicious and we enjoyed the sauce. Coming in next were the scotch fillets. They were cooked to the right temperature, but lower in quality than we were expecting. This is our preferred cut of steak that we get from restaurants but it was thinner and tougher than at other places. Fortunately, still tasty. The side of veggies was pretty good, nicely flavored. But that only served to cause confusion that the mashed potatoes and the "rustic fries" that came with the ribs were both so bland! Truly both were shockingly unseasoned. Guess this place has a real vendetta against potatoes. Regardless, the worst thing in the order was the mushroom sauce. Truly gross. We won't order again. The price doesn't match the quality.

Great concept. Definitely a different experience. Didn't know what to expect and being a Friday night it was busy. Good that they take online bookings which makes it easier when it's busy. We were greeted by the owner shortly after arriving who got us our table and also explained how we line up to order and pay, about the menu and the meat they have displayed. The ordering can take a while if it's busy and a long line with only 1 register. The steaks were cooked well, chorizo sausage was nice, and the sweet potato wedges were good. I did find everything slightly under seasoned for my taste but I just added salt and pepper. Prices were very reasonable and we will definitely be back again.

Macelleria has brought a new concept of dining to the busy streets of Richmond. The idea behind their steakhouse is that the butcher cooks for you. Upon entering this large and open space, you are greeted with a glass display case filled with a variety of cuts of meat. Beef steaks, lamb, kebabs, sausages and chicken are amongst the choices. You select your meat and a variety of sides, and the chef cooks it to order. What a fab idea, and so mych fun. You can see the quality and freshness of the meat before it's cooked, and although everything is simple, the quality and freshness is fantastic. We grabbed a window side table and started with some wine. The restaurant is large, with picnic style tables and wall murals of animals and their cuts of meat. It has a fun and relaxed atmosphere, and the staff are super friendly and helpful. Our waitress offered us some suggestions, so we went with the beef rib eye, a pork and fennel sausage and lamb kebab; with a side of chips and salad. There was so much food, and it made the carnivorous husband very happy. The steak was so thick and juicy, and the red wine jus with it was also amazing. Such a simple concept, but when cooked well, a great steak has amazing flavours. The sausage and kebab were also fantastic, being juicy but not fatty at all. The flavours really shone through, and overall it was a fantastic meal. Macelleria has touched on a great idea, and with it's fabulous service, top quality meat and fun ambience should definitely bring in the crowds when covid restrictions are lifted. From business lunches to date nights and family gatherings, Macelleria has something to appeal to everyone, especially the meat lovers amongst us.

Burgers to die for, the Angus patty is fresh and cooked to perfection. Had some skewers and sausages and couldn't fault the taste. Side orders of chips / sweet potatoes / veggies complete the meal. Casual dining with communal share tables adding to the atmosphere. Service is top notch for the amount of traffic coming in. Drinks menu is decent too! GOOD QUALITY MEAT BUT RESTAURANT LACKING IN AMBIENCE Carnivores will love this restaurant. On entry you are faced with a large refrigerated cabinet full of various cuts of meat (and salmon for the pescatarians). You select your cut of meat, specify how you want it cooked (if in doubt – medium rare), choose one of the three gravies, then add sides. The sides are disappointing – basically a choice of steamed green vegetables and chips. The restaurant has green tiled walls which are slightly reminiscent of old pubs and the acoustics are fairly brutal with all that hard surface for the sound to bounce off. We actually left a bit early because the noise level was uncomfortable for normal conversations. You can pay on ordering (we did) or pay when you finish your meal. Its very much a basic meat eaters restaurant so if that’s what you are after, you wont go wrong….. but if you are after a bit more menu choice, ambience and table service this probably isn’t the place. The two of us had a steak each, streamed greens and fries and a glass of wine each for a total of $91 A bit on the high side given the basic menu. The restaurant is all one level and there are no steps so people with mobility issues will be fine

I Had a quick dinner in this southern Italy style steakhouse. The concept is simple: choose what you want most from the butcher's counter and they will cook it for you at the moment (in Apulia, the historic centers are full of butchers who also make grilled meat). Have been wanting to get to this place since they opened and working in hospitality myself it’s been a little hard lately with having time off. My son is coeliac so always a little challenging however the whole team were very accommodating. Medi looked after us and there was nothing too much for him on the night which created a great experience. Beers and cocktails to start and then I had the 220gram eye fillet that was just perfectly cooked, pepper sauce on point also. My son who is coeliac had the same steak and was intrigued by the pictures on the wall so a very educational meal at the same time - ha ha ha. He rated his steak 9.5 out of 10 (bearing in mind he’s 8 - ha ha ha), the lemon was won it over for him! My wife had a steak as well however our other son opted for a parma which was his first and he could not shut up about how good it was he even ate the salad. Not sure what salt on the fries was but they were addictive. Will defiantly be back as great beers and cocktails and desserts were on point. Thanks again team...

My burger was great, thankfully, but they failed to nail the 'medium rare' steak requests of my lunch mates. I've a feeling they only know how to cook rare... Still, they were very good about taking them back for a little more time on the hotplate. Only other complaint was that they asked for names when we ordered, but then just brought the meals out and announced what the order was, rather than calling the name of the person who ordered it. That's a minor quibble, though.

I just got back from an early dinner at Macelleria and even though the food was perfectly, competently, and properly cooked and the wine was most pleasant, I have to admit to being a bit bored. And it wasn't the company. Macelleria is sort of industrial modern, with no sound baffling, no table menus, and metal Thonet style stools with no seatbacks. And no atmosphere. It feels a bit cafeteria-ish. Very echo-y. The mural of beef cuts is great. And the refrigerated meat display is just excellent. But the ordering process led to a couple of errors, one in the type of steak ordered and the other in the vegetable dish selected .. We decided to just go with it, and eat up. Our steaks were perfectly cooked, medium rare as requested, tender and flavorful. Vegetables were steamed just right. Rustic chips were crisp and fluffy. Our wines by the glass were most quaffable. But somehow it was boring. Initially we had thought to stay for a bit, and maybe have a beer or dessert, but we just wanted to get out and go home. In part that was due to the backless stools being uncomfortable for any length of time. And even though the restaurant was only a third full by the time we left it was impossible to hear across our small table. Two things that would make a great difference would be sound baffling and some seat backs. Total cost of 2 substantial steaks Regular veg & regular chips, 2 side sauces, 2 glasses of wine was $93.

Macelleria has provided one of the best dining experiences I've had to date. Our table orded around 10 steaks and they were all perfectly cooked and well seasoned. I recommend the Scotch fillet cooked rare. Sides and drinks were also amazing - I highly recommend the sweet potato wedges! Customer service and vibes are also on point. I will be back! This could well be my new favourite place for steak in melbourne. A serious contender for top spot currently held by charcoal grill on the hill for many years. The rib eye cutlet was incredibly juicy and tender, cooked to perfection. We will have to come back and see how consistent they are. We also had the pork ribs, which were well cooked and fell off the bone but i still feel meat wine and co have the best ribs in town, the ribs at marcellia are a bit leaner and their glaze isnt as sweet or rich. Could be a personal preference though.

There are plenty of burger options on Swan St and I've tried many of them. Macelleria is the standout option. Their burgers are delicious, well presented and use quality meat and other ingredients. They have a good range of burgers and side dishes. There are other options on the menu, but I'm yet to try them so won't comment. The restaurant itself has a great vibe and it atands out having being able to buy fresh meat to also take home.

Had an absolutely lovely lunch here on Mothers Day, May 9th. "The butcher who cooks it for you" was just as advertised and expected. Basic food, done beautifully, served promptly in a welcoming and refined environment. Meltingly tender eye fillet steak, with great sides and beautiful glass of Italian red. My dining companions had the T-bone and scotch fillet... also an elderflower/ prosecco/ sweet rose spritzer. The service was wonderful and all in all, I would recommend the experience highly!

Interesting concept to display all the meats available, very fresh. The cooking is well done to each one’s request, and we are always happy with the meal. Try to avoid busy nights; the service may be not able to cover every corner and will be too noisy. There’s a surcharge for the weekend.

I'm not going to pretend that I know my cuts of meat. However the steak was beautifully cooked, medium rare just the way I like it. The lamb & fennel sausages were generously sized, flavoursome and definitely my highlight. All accompanied by perfectly cook roasted seasonal vegetables and fries. Good drinks and one of the best negronis I've had in a while. Overall a well priced, friendly and bustling space which I'd happily go back to again and recommend to anyone who loves meat.

The food is fantastic - best steak I've had in a long long time at a very reasonable price. Love the variety of super high quality steaks available. Also cheaper options in sausages and burgers if you have people in your party with varying price sensitivities. Simple, small but strong wine list for the meat available. Chips awesome. Greens perfectly cooked but slightly lacking in flavour (a squeeze of lemon would have been amazing). Service - well meaning but somewhat inept front of house staff. We had to ask for a food menu, only for the staff member to return 30 secs later and advise that ordering was done at the counter - which I feel he should have known instantly. Similarly, hard to get staff attention, and same questions asked of us repeatedly by the same seat member - possibly they were disoriented after a hectic Friday night service. Wonderful chat with the owner about the restaurant concept and quality of food. Will definitely be back. Tip - very noisy inside when busy - outside tables a much better option.

Service was tardy. 35 minutes and nobody asked us for drinks, update us on food timing or any service whatsover. In the end my steak was delivered and terribly sinewy. We both looked around and couldn't get the attention of the wait staff. I approached the apparent manager. He was very apologetic and fast tracked a replacement steak. My steak was cooked well and of much better quality. With a background in wholesale butchery, I would say that my porterhouse was just above average. Overall not the greatest experience even though Macelleria came highly recommended.

The food is delicious but it would be great if they could heat the steak plates more - as I order rare and find because my steak has had limited cooking it cools at a faster rate :) this is more of a suggestion than any negative though. A great spot for groups as they have long tables - you pick and order your steak at the counter, then table service. Definitely worth a visit!

I'm so over burger joints that overcharge you for burgers that are either too small, or simply aren't that great. This place offers a good range of different burgers which are both well sized and very tasty for a well matched price. The service is great, and the staff are very attentive. The burger sauce was super runny.. most of it ended up on the plate. Not really anything unique about the burger taste either. The sweet potato "wedges" were actually chips. The redemption is in the steaks and other assorted meats.

One of the best value steaks you can buy in town and such a novel idea for a restaurant. As the name would suggest, it's a cross between a butcher and a restaurant... And man do they know how to cook a good steak. Expect to pay around $45 for a nice steak, a side and a glass of ale... Quite well priced when you consider the quality, and what some other local establishments sting you for for an inferior product. Absolutely recommend!

Dropped in with my son today for a couple of Fromaggio burgers and sides of fires and lamb cutlets (love it!). Great burger with the right mix of ingredients and quality meat perfectly cooked. Great bun as well. How can you not love a couple of cheeky lamb cutlets on the side with your chips, which had a great seasoning (subtle and not overpowering). Look and feel of the place is comfortable and inviting and the staff are friendly. The only suggested improvement is table service, but that does not seem to be the way with modern casual dining. If there was table service I would have had a glass of wine but wasn't in the mind set to order it at the counter with the food. Will be back to try some steaks and skewers

A good friend recommended and organized a lunch for him, my wife and myself. My wife who has strict diet requirements was impressed with the freshness, the attention to detail by staff of her needs and the final product. The eye fillet steak was very reasonable in price, cooked to perfection and easily one of the best steaks I have eaten in Melbourne. The mushroom sauce was delightful, the sides were all of high quality and cooked just right. The wife has been back twice and myself once thus far and any trip to Melbourne I is a good excuse to eat here. I also got to meet the owner, Peter, whom approached us and asked for feedback. He was a gentleman.

I came in with my partner and had 2 beautiful scotch fillets. They were cooked to perfection. I have to say, everything else was so disappointing, the Dijon mustard tasted sweet like American mustard, the chips were covered in chicken salt?? And the beetroot, quinoa and kale salad had so many cranberries that made it overly sweet. Such a shame!

We visited on a busy Saturday night, and even though we'd made a booking through Dimmi, we still had to wait 10 minutes to be seated, as if we had never booked. The steaks were great value for what you get, but easily the best food that night was the sweet potato chips. It's a little more cramped than a normal restaurant especially when it's very busy, however the wait staff do the best they can with the busy conditions.

Great service provided by staff on our visit, as well as good value for money for the food offered. Didn't take long completing the ordering process and food came out quickly. We ordered the wagyu rump, angus scotch fillet and pork ribs. Steaks were ok and could have been seared more evenly, with more seasoning applied during cooking (in my opinion). We requested medium rare but some parts were cooked well done. Pork ribs were ok and weren't "falling off the bone" as we generally expect from ribs, but still ok. Greens were tasty and sauces excellent, mash was ok. We arrived on a Saturday night and it was quite busy so this could have affected cooking. With the good service and value here i may give it another go.

I’ve eaten the Eye Fillet and Wagyu Rump, as well as the Dustino Martino (Don’t Argue) Burger. The steak price and quality are absolutely outstanding. Beats other places hands down on both scores. You can afford multiple visits due to the cost - no need to mortgage your house to indulge in quality meats. The staff recommend a medium rare cook; which was accurate advice. Steaks come on their own plate. Pay at the counter and take a number. No cost wasted on silver service, just a focus on friendliness and quality. Side orders are very generous and very classily done too. The burger was very good. Overall, I hope this places makes a killing. The world needs more places like this where you can repeat visit, enjoy high quality foods and keep the bank balanced. Staff appear passionate connoisseurs of their craft. They seem geniuinely proud of their offerings - money can’t buy that passion and commitment. Keep it up!

Cracking steak restaurant! You won't find any better value, without a compromise on quality in Melbourne. I just had a T-Bone Cape Grim for $21.50 and it was amazing. Trendy and packed to the rafters at lunchtime. With a line up out the door it would have been a good idea to have staff handing out menus so there was no delay at the order counter with those folks who can't decide what to eat. 1 hour lunchbreak and yet we had just 15 minutes to eat by the time food arrived. 5 stars for the food, 4 stars for the venue but 3 stars for service. I honestly think they're still trying to get into a groove of order, serve, clean up. Perhaps they're not ready for a busy lunchtime. I'll try it again in a few months and see if it's improved.

Best sausages and steak I've had in Melbourne! Sausages are made with top notch cuts of meat - even my friend who doesn't eat sausages had a few! We had the chorizo, wagyu beef, lamb, and lamb skewers - the wagyu beef was our favourite. Just had my first experience at macelleria on swan st on there opening night. I was greeted with a smile before been told how the process works with ordering. The staff training were very helpful not shy or nervous but confident and helpful. I ordered a wagyu rump rare and my fiancé ordered a snitzel bunless burger which is an option on the menu. I couldn't believe how cheap it was considering I payed the same for a wagyu rump as what I would for a rusty old porterhouse on a steaknight at one of the local pubs. All in all I give this a strong recommendation for anyone to try you won't be disappointed. 5 stars.

Well, where do I begin. So one of my friends lost her earrings on the way to the restaurant. It seems like a family heirloom and she was devistated to have lost it. The food was not only high quality, but price sensitive, and delivered in a expedient time. If anything, our night was saved by the experience offered at macelleria. Table of 8 of us went on opening night everything ran smoothly! Staff and management were excellent made us all feel welcome and gave a detailed brief of their concept to help us understand how it works. Everyone of us loved it and recieved all our meals at good time and all together (even with well done steaks ordered). The food was excellent quality, really fresh and with alot of variety for everyone. All meat eaters this place is amazing, WE NEED ONE IN ADELAIDE.

Ever since I was brought to this restaurant by my roommate, I have fallen in love with the sweet potato chips of this restaurant: crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, with a sweet aftertaste. Especially the light salty taste on the shell stimulates the enjoyment of sweetness, and you can finish a large portion without knowing it. So much so that the cheating meal every week is reserved for this restaurant! The steak is also well done, and it's good after two times. The plates are also warm and professional. And you can eat 300g wagyu for less than 50 dollars, and the price/performance ratio is good.
