Comments of Makoto Sushi Train
K.
Great food and service. Stir fried Udon, raw beef and Octopus Karage were my top three dishes. The only downside is the sushi on the train a bit basic. But you could order more from the menu. Much better. Recommend to try if you looking to a sushi train experience.
I. F.
Very good dishes but nothing I haven’t tried before. The sea urchin fish was really good! We also enjoyed the beef tataki and the other dishes that we ordered, but the train doesn’t have a lot of variety and it’s all very repetitive. A bit expensive as well, but the service is amazing and the staff is very friendly and accomodating!
R. S. (.
In lunch time which is very busy, their quality was such a bomb. The sushi is very delicious and fresh. And the koroke is to die for. Good service. The sushi train was keep rolling. Best sushi train in Melbourne I think.
A.
Had a good dine in experience here, surprised Makoto don't allow outside drinks but they did refrigerate them for us. Sushi was fresh, good variety on the train. They do have a killer Wagyu signature dish
C. O.
I cant believe its an sushi train restaurant! They make awesome modern sushi and its was so delicious! Pricey but good quality of the food. I would pay for good food~
C. L.
Ordered the premium sushi for picnic on my birthday and I have to say that it exceeds my expectations!! It is so worth for the price, I highly recommend this because they are really good and you wouldn’t want to miss out 😋❤️
L. W.
delicious but expensive - as all good sushi trains are. i wish there had been slightly more variety about what was traversing the tracks but alas i was fed and full either way
E.
Ah, Makoto. Yes, the place I come to for when I need a sushi fix on a conveyor belt train that won't need me to part with a kidney.
They've got pretty much every kind of sushi you'd typically find at a sushi train place, only difference is that they do it right. The rice is properly seasoned and pressed, the toppings are fresh and flavourful, and everything is presented in an appetising manner.
They've also got hooks under the table for your bag, so that's a win!
So yeah, if you need a quick sushi fix, this is where you'll wanna be.
G. B.
Great atmosphere, good variety of dishes, quality product at reasonable price.
I would have ordered a sake however the cheapest bottle was a little too much. Would love it if they did a sake tasting-paddle of maybe 3 small glasses of different styles, I would be much more tempted to buy that.
C. N.
Sushi train was ok. I thought they were a bit slow putting out food and there wasn’t a lot of variety. The dishes you could order were better than some of the options on the train. Could have been quicker and fresher. Bit too much hype I think. Ordering panels were call though.
S. L.
Very yummmmm! Love every single dish we ordered good service and fresh ingredient, just a bit pricey compare to other sushi restaurant. Two people we paid $140 included one drink.
C. B.
Took daughter for her 17th birthday, as she is a huge sushi fan, staff were lovely and food was extremely fresh, well made, and presented, thank-you Makato Sushi Train. If seating was more comfortable would have got a 5!!!
F. Q.
Makoto serves delicious and fresh sushi with its own twist and flavors. The sushi presentation is on point, and the sushi train is always fully packed with ready-to-eat sushi.
However, the price per plate is a little bit on the pricey side compared to other sushi places.
I’ve been here for 3x and the quality has always been the same. I’ll probably be back for more when i’m craving for sushi!
K. L.
Thinking to plan ahead, I called to book a table one week in advance, and was told that they would only hold the table for 10 mins. A week later when we were there 15mins early, they could not find our name and reservation. But it's ok we were lucky, they had a table.
We ordered two bottles of sake, we liked it.
The sushi train's variety was just ok, similar to its competitor in Emporium.
You can order through tablet, but difficult to use and choices are again, just ok.
Customer services was not bad, but I hope they could take away the plastic covers more.
I have been searching for dinner sushi train in the city for a while now, and it seems that no one can yet top and offer as attractive choices as the good old Sakura on little collin..
L. E.
Sushi is of reasonable quality, but a little over priced. Of the sushi train restaurants I've tried in the CBD this one ranks well behind Tetsujin and Sushi Jiro, but ahead of Sakura Kaiten II (which is totally overpriced and overrated)
O. C.
Good quality ingredients.
Sushi train not in use due to COVID. But ordering from tablet and table service was probably better - made to order (a lot had options to take out salt or tobiko for instance when placing order) and much more hygienic.
One suggestion... should definitely encourage patrons to use alcohol handrub before using screen /offer wipes for the screen or hands...
J. T. (. S.
Although food is a little average but very caring for those that has seafood allergies. A good selection of sushis that are design for ppl who can't have sea food but still enjoy the sushi train experience.
Good service and clean environment makes you feel comfortable whole you are dinning.
It's a good place to catch up with friends and family.
D. H.
Great sushi train place with nice quality sushi, would recommend it's a little hidden next to gongcha and in a convenient location easy for a nice snack between being here and going on the train. Pretty decent prices as well, tables sit 7 people.
P. N.
Service is great. Food also great. Price is a bit more than your usual. There are seating for small groups. Overall recommend to try.
T. Q. W.
Delicious food and good service will come back again. To mention the tori age teishoku and king prawn chawamushi are so amazing.
P. W.
Neat sushi train tucked away in a dead end. Worthwhile visiting but min $20 per customer. We did 6 plates plus 2 specials & coke for $54.
W. V.
Great little location in Melbourne Central with very friendly staff. Not the most extensive vegan options but quite a few vegetarian options with the option to remove any animal products from ordered dishes. Very delicious foods and well presented!
R. P.
Average but expensive sushi.
The seared scallop and tempura nori was excellent, but everything else was disappointing for the price, particularly the bland rice.
d. w.
Very nice sushi, the only thing that brings it down from a 5 star rating is the lack of a menu of sorts that you can look at and tell what is in front of you as it travels by
R. B.
Really enjoyed this sushi train. We went on a Monday for lunch and were able to be seated right away. There was a decent variety of sushi and it was really fresh. The iPad ordering is really handy and there was a great variety of non sushi items available at a good price. Staff were all nice and the place looked very clean. Great location and looks a bit more aesthetically appealing than the Emporium version. We would try this place again.
A.
Don't get me wrong. It was delicious and there was plenty of it but it was very very expensive. It was however very awesome. I love sushi and this satiated that itch.
M. D. (.
Nice quick Sushi. Yummy!
R. “. C.
Love that place very easy to dine at. Food is good. Nothing special.
D. M.
Great alternative to Sakura Kaiten - bigger variety and most plates are 4,20$. Besides ikura and uni everything is affordable. Not crowded unlike competitors
D. C.
My go to place when I need a quick sushi/sashimi fix. The scampi is my fav!
L. H.
The food - that were available - were quite fresh.
However, the range wasn't a lot and was quite pricey as well. Probably wouldn't go back though as they charged (without telling us) $1.50 for Japanese mayonnaise to go with our fried lotus roots which it's normally complimentary.
There was also a hair in our scallop sashimi which I politely pointed out and they just took back and replaced with another one. Kinda not a pleasant experience over all with the service.
L.
$4.80 per plate. Not sure if it’s worth it. It could taste better than other places with lower price. I felt that there weren’t enough choices from the $4.80 dishes too.
c. j.
But expensive but good quality. Can taste the difference even in the soy sauce is better
B. P.
Excellent quality sushi and nigiri. Authentic agedashi tofu. Great friendly service.
R. N.
The staff were friendly and service wss good, but the sushi seemed to be somewhat not fresh, seems rushed. Hoping to have fresher food I visit next time.
S. L.
Found this place unexpectedly when walked to food court. It's on corner side and near the escalator. Loved the chawanmushi. It took long time to be served but worth to wait! Perfect soft and bouncy textures and taste amazing!
It has many varieties of sushi.
Definitely will come back
F. M.
Service was great - staff were very friendly. And the food was delicious! - we will be back
A. A.
Extremely cheap for what you get. I bought a few bits of sushi, with a drink, with dips, with fried chicken, and paid only $15.
I would recommend Makoto, but it may be better to order the food via the tablet than to get it off the sushi train if it doesn’t appeal to you.
J. B.
Nice place. Hard to find though. Food choices fairly limited. Staff service excellent
A. L.
Nice customer service, nice food. Really recommend
L. W.
Super tasty sushi with all the classic options on the train plus some more adventurous options. Friendly staff very reasonably priced
M. K.
The food was fine. It wasn't bad. However it's a little more pricey than others I've been to, hence the 3*'s.
W. Y. C.
Recommend this restaurant. The food is delicious. The most important thing is that the staff Vina is super beautiful and nice.
P. F.
Food quality was excellent. Kids loved the train experience.
J. S.
Typical Japanese casual restaurant.Very nice food but prices including drinks just a tad higher than they should be.
A. P.
Although the sushi was tasty, the fish selection wasn't particularly broad. With $4.80 for a plate Makoto is a tad too expensive to get a 5 star review.
L.
Great place! Decent prices. Tasty
W. H.
Very small selection but was all high quality. Price was average.
J. S.
Great staff, yummy Sushi. Great atmosphere too.
s. L.
good sushi i think it was slightly overpriced but overall great sushi
S. B.
Lovely atmosphere busy so was a bit slow on the service side. The self ordering app is a little annoying as you have to process each item individually but all round with it. The aburi king hotate is worth going for!
J. M.
Not much variety
For the amount of money I spent, I would've gotten better quality at a local sushi store
T. g.
Fantastic service with fresh consistent food. Always good when we go.
A. E.
Nice food, friendly staff, one of the better sushi trains in Melbourne I've been to in the CBD. Left our phone and staff sprinted after us to return it! Thank you!
J. B.
Beautiful food and the service was great. Could benefit from more items on the train as I had to order virtually everything through the ipad. However it arrived quickly and it was delicious.
V. K.
Some of the food was good, other were very lacking
R. N.
We came as a family of four and we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience! A great selection of very fresh, tasty sushi, salads and hot foods pass by on the sushi train. Touch screens give you even more choice to order other hot food, desserts and beverages - whatever your choice it is delivered quickly by the very happy, friendly staff. Highly recommend!!
G. T.
We could only order takeaway during this lockdown but the sushi and rolls tasted great - Definitely freshly made
K. X.
The best one. Really like it. Visit makoto from sydney to Melbourne
J. T.
I really enjoyed my meal here.. there are plenty of choices, it's clean and the staff are helpful, polite and attentive.
I will have to go back to try more dishes
H. S.
The sushi was exquisite overall. I tried the salmon one and did NOT like it but I think that was a me problem. It is absolutely gorg and the staff are awesome.
A. K.
This place was great. All plates on the train are $3.80 which is a great price and they don't hold back on the serving sizes or nice dishes. It's very clean and high tech, with screens for you to order as well as the sushi train. It's a good sushi train up the top end of the city, and while it's in Melbourne Central it feels a bit removed from all the hustle and bustle which is nice.
P. V.
Food was excellent. Service was good. Our kids enjoyed the novelty sushi train. Gentle and kind wait staff.
A.
Favorite sushi tram in Melbourne! Very fresh and great variety
b. r.
A few more vegetarian options would be great
c.
Such a great sushi train! Customer service was excellent great attention to detail. We ordered a few things off the iPad and also took from the train, the quality was amazing, and not too expensive! Some of the best sushi I’ve had.
S. V.
The best!! Currently my favourite sushi restaurant. Great service and high quality food. Been going here at least once a week for months now!
j. s.
a little expensive, but the food was very good. not overly crowded and service was helpful and kind. the food looked fresh which is always good. one thing that we found confusing was that you could take plates from the conveyor belt and also order dishes through the tablets on your table's touch screen tablet. definitely recommended for everyone! 🍣
G. B.
Very nice atmosphere. Great quality seafood. I was happy with everything I had, however it would be awesome to have more variety.
A. C.
Amazing sushi train with fresh great food and a huge variety of options. It is like a train restruant as you have touch screen tablets to order hot food fresh or just food on the train so you dont have to wait. The staff were very nice and friendly, making sure our water was always topped up. Overall great sushi train with amazing food.
P. C.
The sushi was nice, and the venue was pretty with nice features. We also had the chicken karaage but we found the mayonnaise to not be as tasty as we usually expect. Fairly priced as well, but expect to pay at least $30 per person
T. O.
Sushi was awesome although it was hard to find the resturant, some of the food was not in categorys we expected and was a bit expensive, overall great place would recommend to anyone
m. r.
I wish all of my eating experiences were like this
A. K.
This place is ok, but there are better sushi trains in Melbourne.
J. L.
It is not bad for a sushi train in CBD as it is $3.80 for a plate which is considered quite cheap. The taste is not bad too however personally, it would have been better with more variety of sushi. Also, I dont think I will go there again as there are places that is better. Hence, personally it is "ok" for me.
G. A.
Staff were friendly and accomodating, I love the Sushi and shashimi, "Sudhi Train" they call it! Me and my family always go there!
E. P.
Nice place in Melbourne Central. Food was high quality and delicious.
L. S.
Newly open sushi train in Melbourne Central complex. Great environment with friendly staff and good service. Food taste not bad but prefer more varieties on the train, otherwise have to always order on the iPad. Sake platter is good.
E. T.
Quite pricey for the quality of food they offer
K. J.
Our favourite Sushi place in the city, they serve warm saké and amazing fresh sushi comparable to what you get fresh in Japan. We have always enjoyed the customer service and the variety available. Any other place we've been to we wished we just stuck with MAKOTO!
A. D.
It was lovely all the staff were very nice and patient, they had a good range of food and the speed of the sushi train was nice. Overall I love it and I would be there every day if it were cheaper.
w. P.
Always good service and food is amazing 👍
R. R.
Not as good as the one we had in Sydney, but not too bad either
A. F.
Reasonably priced and conveniently located. Decent selection of maki rolls and sushi on the train but you can also order off the menu for other dishes. The veggie tempura nigiri is highly recommended.
T. S.
Authentic Japanese sushi train experience. Food and service was amazing
K. G.
Really yummy selection of sushi. Highly recommend booking in advance as it can get packed quickly
B. W.
This place is so good, before you know it you've spent a hundred bucks on sushi and are completely satisfied doing so. I LOVE Makato Sushi Train 😋❤
M. L.
Fresh, bright and clean. Makoto Sushi Train served all the usual delicacies, presented simply and promptly.
L. C.
Great service and good food!
D. W.
Excelent customer service and tasty food for a reasonable price.
D. B.
Make sure you try the deep fried crispy salmon skin! Delicious!!! 😋
E.
Friendly staff. Only 4 stars as variety can be improved for 5 stars. Modern touch screen menu with images of all menu items. Space is reasonable for adults but not for prams.
F. T.
I have been there yesterday, sashimi are fresh, stuff friendly, every train plate just $3.80
Especially you order other from their ipad, but the price still cheaper since we order lots of food, and very fresh. And make me surprise is the chef will keep sashimi fresh(they will put some ice under sashimi). Compare to this, other japanese restaurant they won't do this fresh.
J. J.
Im not blown away but its aight. Would I eat there again? Maybe if I'm nearby and absolutely feening for sushi on a train. purr
T. R.
A really great Sushi Train option in the heart of the city. One of two Makoto locations in both Emporium and Melbourne Central the Sushi Train is excellent and on Mondays they have a special deal. Only a good option for lunch.
S. V.
Overpriced and not even nice service.
A.
Delicious bite-sized fresh cuisine, reasonably priced. Customer service was delightful! We enjoyed the experience.
K. F.
Good service. Food is fresh and reasonably priced. You can choose whatever you want to eat Food Cosy environment . Great place to bring family and friends. Cosy atmosphere
T. E.
Delicious convenient sushi train, iPad for ordering non train items is very helpful. Alcoholic drinks are a bit pricey, but plates are not too expensive.
박.
Sushi was normal but tataki was too thin and row quality.
A. O.
Everything on the belt is $3.80
Not bad for a sushi train place. I like that the soft shell crab hand roll is topped with a tangy mayo.
J. G.
24 plates between 3 people. Just couldn't stop ❤️
K. S.
Not fresh enough
N. Y.
Fun experience, good food ❤️
A.

Bit expensive and alcoholic drink way overpriced. Quality was good though.

H. S.
What you'd expect from Japanese food. Slightly overpriced for the tiny portions
T. T.
Yummy food, recommend👍

Love this place, great service, a great range of sashimi on their train. The sashimi offering is what makes it for me on trains!
V. L.

J. M.

A. E.
Excellent costumer service, everyone is so helpful and polite . And the food, omg ... so delicious and fresh and fare price (which I was quite impressed)
100% reccomend the experience !!!!
Y. T.
It's okay, slightly fresher hence slightly pricier compare to similar outlets. Lack of sushi options. Apparently kitchen closes at 6.30pm.
I. C.
Good selection, reasonably priced and very attentive staff. Always a treat to comeback.
W. Z.
Normal taste and average service. Price is little bit high
K. M.
Really nice ordering system, food was good but as with all trains it gets expensive fast
L. W.
Bit expensive and alcoholic drink way overpriced. Quality was good though.
P. S.
Great find in the city. All plates are the same price. Lots of choices.
H. B.
Food was good but a bit on the expensive side compared to other sushi trains near by.
A. P.
Good prices and great food with some innovative variations as well as more common dishes.
P.
Good food but the ordering tablets are very unreliable. The waiter had to reset ours three times while we were there.
T. H.
I ate so much at Makoto. It is now probably one of my favourite Japanese restaurants ever
w. w.
Food was great, loved ordering from the tablets & picking what I wanted up from the train.
M. C.
It was very easy to eat too much yummy food here, that's good though right?
S. P.
Some of the food selection was alright but nothing caught my attention either for more or variety.
J. 0.
