Comments of Mama Lor Restaurant & Bakery - Melbourne

The experience was amazing. It was like I was taken back home. My cravings were truly satisfied. It wasn't only me who enjoyed but my Aussie partner enjoyed the food as well. The place has a good ambiance and the staff are friendly. We shall be back for more soon.

Very good BBQ dish in this local restaurant. Bakery is the best in this restaurant. Lots of nice dessert with yam. This restaurant is huge, lots of large tables. Staff are very friendly. Price are average. Walking distance to train station and very close to bus stop. Lots of parking nearby.
H. M.
Really nice food, authentic Filipino flavours! Very affordable too! Their breads and cakes are to die for.
F. B.
Best Filipinos food in Western burbs. They served authentic taste Filipinos food. Love their main meals, love their desserts. Love the sizzling pork ear and theit yam desserts deff my go to comfort food !!
A. N.
Heard so much about this place and finally got to try it out. Pleasantly surprised at how spacious and well fitted out this restaurant is. Service is friendly and efficient. Food is very delicious but am not a fan of the cheese laden desserts (hence the 4 stars instead of 5). Will definitely be back to try other dishes.
J.
This is one of the best philipino restaurant I've even been too.
Service was great, friendly staff and the food wonderful. Will come back again.
G. 1.
Great filipino food! Can't wait to go with a big group and order the entire menu!! The crispy pata is delicious and the fried chicken was great but very hot! The sinigang is great and the rice portions are pretty decent. Definitely recommend if you've got a craving!
A. P.
Defo best Filipino restaurant in Melbourne. Great service, friendly staff, amazing delicious authentic filipino food and clean restaurant. Highly recommended. Will defo come back again.

It's my first dining experience with Filipino cuisine.
Delicious and reasonable price. Takeaway Deserts are fresh and tasty. Just kindly remind those order the charcoal fish, with too many bones and have to be patient when you eat.
It's a great place for food, plus nice and friendly staff are willing to assist on-site.
Will return in near future. :-)

We dined in a couple of nights ago and once again the food and service was fantastic! The food here always takes me back to my childhood of my mum’s cooking and now I feel so fortunate to have found a place where I can share this cuisine with my kids.
The adobo is amazing and we always take home some of the freshly baked goodies. Can’t wait to return again soon!
U. R. C.
Loved the presentation! But the food- Yum! Lutong Pinoy!
And the tiny rice pot is just adorable! 5 stars!

Not the typical Filipino restaurant. Enjoyed the food, good ambience and friendly staff. Highly recommend!

After a tiring travel from Pt Leo Estate. We finished off the day with a magnificent dinner with all time favourites. I never expected that they will serve such an amazing food in Melbourne Australia. Filipino food is one of the underrated cuisine in the world but once you tasted it you won’t regret it. The servings are huge and the food is not oily. The restaurant is nice and clean with a good ambiance for the whole family to enjoy.

Mama Lor is a family friendly Filipino restaurant & bakery in Werribee. They serve classic Filipino fare, including soups, grilled & BBQed meats, curries, noodles and dessert. We’ve been there a few times when we want a taste of home.
Some of our favourite dishes are:
Sizzling Sisig: Seasoned pork cuts, onions, capsicum served on a sizzling hot plate. We added the egg. This classic dish is delicious and perfect to share.
Inihaw Na Pusit: Grilled squid stuffed with onion and tomato. The squid was fresh cooked to perfection. Loved it
Lumpia Sarwia: Janeca’s Favourite – Fresh vegetable spring roll with camote (sweet potato) and chopped peanuts
Pinakbet: Sauteed mixed vegies, including okra, pumpkin & eggplant. Tangy and refreshing
Halo-Halo: This decadent dessert has shaved ice topped with sweetened beans, coconut strips, gulaman jelly, pinipig rice crunch with leche flan and ube ice cream. It’s the best!
The restaurant has nice bright fitout. It’s a family friendly and they have child high chairs. The service is friendly and relaxed. And you can get some yummy treats from their bakery for home! If you’re looking for Filipino food in Melbourne, check out Mama Lor!

Mama Lor restaurant surprised me! I migrated from the Philippines in the mid 80’s as a small child and never was impressed with the Filipino restaurants that came and went until recently! Cue Mama Lor! Filipino restaurants are rare, most of them are takeaways with food already prepared in bain maries, carenderia style, pre ordered from a caterer or at the Annual Filo Fiesta but never an a la carte professional run restaurant. My family had the pleasure of dining here on 27/12 for lunch and had pre ordered a few dishes in advance. When we arrived I loved the bright, fresh, clean ambiance and the friendly, helpful staff. It was busy for a Monday and we saw that was a good sign! My parents pre ordered crispy pata, pork bbq, bbq chicken, chop suey and pancit canton. Upon arrival we added spaghetti, stuffed squid (I forgot the name), crispy palabok and halo halo to the order. I must say the crispy pata was the BEST i’ve had in my life! I was blown away, it was crispy and stayed crispy but also so so tender and the meat pulled from the bone effortlessly, the sao-sao (vinegar dipping sauce) cut through the salty richness of the fried meat and complimented it well. The crispy palabok was a major highlight as it was the first time we had this modern take on the traditional palabok, it was 1000% better than any palabok I’ve had and it was all due to the fried noodles. If you’re familiar with traditional palabok you’ll know the rice noodles tend to be a gluggy mess beneath the shrimp sauce/gravy but this palabok was heaven to eat! The texture of the noodles had more structure and was definitely a better way of serving palabok. Will definitely return for both! The halo halo looked amazing and was throughly enjoyed by my son. All the dishes were served fresh, hot and well flavoured. Overall a 5/5 experience and will return soon to sample more of the menu!
E. N.
That tangy sauce that comes with the crispy roast pork goes very nicely with steamed rice. Delicious.
J. A.
Best Filipino restaurant we've ever been by far. We have yet to try their bulalo and other food but we had kare-kare, steamed talong and crispy pata and writing about it makes me drool again. It was that nice. The ambience of the place was very inviting and the service was good. Their hopia's at the counter were to die for especially the hopiang baboy. Sarap!!
D. R.
The Pork Hopia was really good. Freshly made daily i would say as there are couple
of times they were sold out and i have to
come back next day to buy one. But i had
tried the pansit for the first time take away,
something is missing on the dish its very bland. But i still gonna come back for the Hopia for sure.
J. T.
Great selection of dishes. First time trying Filipino food, excellent food will go again to try other dishes. Service was friendly and good, a better explanation of dishes would of been helpful. Overall a good first experience
A. C.
I stumbled upon this Filo restaurant in Werribee which is surprisingly 5min drive away from my Home. I was just asking for a can of Soda, but the lovely lady offer me a mango juice instead, which is more healthy i guess. I tried the brownies, loved them. Spacious restaurant, good food i guess. Ill try next time.
N. M.
The outlook of the place is good! Multiple bakery options available for takeaway also.
g. s.
No doubt, the best filipino restaurant in Melbourne. Food Quality, Food Quantity, Customer service, ambiance and covid safe are all 5 star.👍👍👍👍
Highly recommended and must visit.
A.
Came here for early Christmas lunch with the fam. The food here is pretty damn good. There was a band playing so there were some great entertainment.
We had our favourites crispy pata, pancit, sinigang na baboy, grilled squid, sisig etc. Very tasty. Highly recommend this place.
M. M.
Nice vibes, nice food. What more can I say? Serving up Filipino cuisine Mama Lor doesn't miss. My favourite food from here has to be their barbecue pork skewer.
K. L.
Fantastic when they are good but unfortunately they are inconsistent with their quality and service. Went there for takeaway yesterday and ordered a sisig - they for got to give us 2 serves of rice. We ordered Halo Halo and got something that was the mix of Halo Halo and Mais Con Yelo as if they started making Halo Halo then for got what they were doing and made Mais Con Yelo. We suspect that quality and service is dependant on Chef working? Disappointed because if the consistency was there we literally travel from Balwyn to Werribee to eat there however with the inconsistency we will only risk it if we were in the area.
K. C.
The best filo restaurant in the area. Food tastes amazing! Nice place and really feels like home. but younger staff needs to smile more. Just my 2 cents.
C. L.
It was a bit busy, so food could take a while. The lechon was really good, crispy even after a 2 hr trip home. The hopia was a letdown. Both pork and ube taste so sweet. The ube cake was a bit dry. I'll probably try other food but not baked goods.
L. P.
We tried the desserts (halo halo and mais con yellow), and they were amazing! Definitely going to come back again in the future!
L. V.
Nice filipino restaurant, don't see many like this. Many filipino dishes that are not bbq lol. Street parking can get busy. Worth a visit.
A.
The best Filipino cuisine I've eaten.
The pork crispy pata was delicious, so were the pork BBQ sticks, your lumpia, chop suey and egg fried rice.
Very reasonable prices and a really comfortable atmosphere.
C. R. C.
Not quite sure what to expect since neither of us are from Philippines. But love the bakery selections!
C. S.
The bulalo was bland, the fried chicken was very dry, the large grilled squid was only an inch bigger than the regular order and the fresh lumpia is pricey for its size.
M. G. G.
Great food! Great atmosphere!
Will come again… thank you for the good service…. Busog much
C. T.
Ordered lechon and other dishes for Noche Buena (Christmas Eve). It was our first time to try their food. The queue was very long for pick up, which was a great sign that the place is popular.
Service was excellent, and everyone was very friendly and accommodating, despite them having a really busy day right before Christmas.
The serving sizes were reasonable, the lechon was delicious, the sans rival cake and the other baked good we bought were all great. We think the sisig might be better if eaten onsite (dine in).
Will definitely come back, and will try to dine in next time.
J. T.
Was very busy when I came here and only came here for a friend's birthday. I asked the waitress for vegetarian chopsuey and she said that can be arranged but when my chopsutmey came out, there were some small pieces of chicken. I compared my chopsuey with my friend's chopsuey and mine looked like they've just picked out the chicken and accidentally left some 🤦. On a positive note, my friends enjoyed their meals.

Mama Lor is a Family owned and operated Restaurant that offers a variety of Traditional Filipino dishes. They also sells bread & cakes !
Super yummy 🤤 filipino food which feels so close to home
N. S.
Classic Filipino dish. It's my second or third try of Filipino dishes, so I'm no expert to judge. Went for a dinner, quite packed on the weekend and for walk in it takes around 15 minutes of wait. Fair enough.
The food was delicious, and the distinct sour/vinnegar flavor that you'll found in Filipino dishes. Ordered, Chicken adobo, the crispy pork, and the fish soup. It was all okay, above average taste.
Nonetheless, I really love their Sisig. It's delish! Tons of flavor bombs from onion, capsicum and pork. Variety of textures and yes it's hot! Two thumbs up.
Friendly service as well, however it was a bit on the pricey side. Didn't expect that. But overall, I enjoyed my visit.
D. S.
Finally good quality Filipino food, very modern clean restaurant.
A. E.
Authentic Filipino cuisine. Delicious menu. .Nice ambience. Polite and courteous staff.

Great tasting Filipino dishes. Worth the visit.

I'd say that this restaurant can be a Filipino pride in the West. It has a lovely ambience, friendly staff and great food. Food prices are affordable. They also have baked goods that they bake everyday. Nothing bad to say!
P.
Yummy filipino food and friendly, diverse staff!

Kare kare and bangus sisig, the best! (No left-over). Food was served fast and the serving's generous. Place is also nice and cozy. Too bad there's no more pandesal when we got there, but at least I can try pan de leche instead.
-.
Easily the best Filipino restaurant in Melbourne and yes I've tried all the other places.
Mama Lor has a large variety of dishes from their wholesome and hearty soups such as Bulalo, and Sinigang, vegetable dishes such as Adobong Kang Kong, noodles such as Pancit and Sotanghon and of course their barbecue selection has all the favourites like Liempo, Lechon Kawali, Bagus, Pusit the list goes on. Also don't forget about the various desserts, like Halo Halo, Ube cake, Sans Rival.
And if you're still hungry after all that, there is a bakery so you can keep the Filipino flavours flowing.
Mama Lor is well and truly Melbourne's Queen of Filipino cuisine. 🇵🇭 🤗
B. H.
Had lunch there today, fabulous experience, and great food. We ordered a variety of dishes and they were delicious. The service was very prompt and friendly. Will definitely be back.
F. J.
Great food. Home sweet home cooking style
T. S.
Hoping that wearing face mask be consistently enforced, except of course when eating.
i. s.
good ambiance Filipino Restaurant in Melbourne, big space and not crowded. We love the pork barbeque so much! It's big and worth the money. Love the crispy pata and crispy chicken too!
D. S.
quality Philippine food here. food is top notch at reasonable prices too. despite big numbers in our party and the busy period, they managed well. def recommend and will come again. and again. and again.
B. D.
Chicken skins are tasty, nice and crisp, would have given a higher rating but there is a surcharge on everything you buy 🤷🤷 the chicken was really nice also, a real yummy flavour. But we ordered the chop sui and was given some sort of chicken thing which none of us liked. Not sure why I can't add a picture but I have a picture of the meal we were handed.

4.5 STARS...
What a GEM!!
went to lunch with friends and this place overall is a 9/10.
very reasonably priced. a wide range of asian cuisine.
very busy so make sure you book.
live band was a bit too loud but since the musicians esp the singer were amazing it wasnt too much to deal with.
the staff was amazing. always smiling and from time to time handing out testers to customers.
place is very presentable and a nice vibe.
will defs come back!!
4.5 will probably go up to a 5star rating after trying the rest of the menu next time.
Thanks Mama Lor

I just love this Filo Bakery and Resto. The food really taste so good. Experience Filipino hospitality by going into this resto. 😊❤
A. B.
Went there on Monday lunch, they were understaffed. Foods came out after waiting for around 1 hour and they came 1 by 1. Food tasted good, but my grilled fish was burned like charcoal which makes the skin inedible. Still giving 4 stars as I believe they have potential and service staff were very nice.
G. D. (.
The lady at front can be nicer at first glance but she really makes up for it when we were leaving. The waiters were very attentive. I like their beef with mushroom still have to try the others. The garlic rice is fantastic. It can be a bit pricey but i think its worth it.
P. G.
The place is busy and big with good interiors. The bakery products and desserts are really good. Specially the purple colour cakes, Pastries, Rolls, rolls.etc
Coming to food, the prices are on a higher side. We were wanting to order some noodle dish but one dish alone was approx $35- even though may have bigger quantity but does not work if there are only 2 ppl.
We ordered pork belly- which was good but portion was less when looked with price and vermicelli chicken soup which did not have much of a taste.
Our order also arrived very late which is not very good as well.
Overall not a very great experience.
G. K.
I rarely go for a Filo food grub ‘cause I’ve never been to a decent Filipino restaurant in Melbourne— tried most but nothing really impresses me. Not until I went here and finally had the flavours that hits home. I’m so glad that I did, otherwise I would miss out. The ambiance, service and the selection of food and its bakery is the best among the Filipino restaurants I’ve visited so far.
J. D.
Great filipino food with generous portions. Will definitely come back!

Here for the second time this month. I live 1hr drive away but it’s so worth it!
J. A. G.
Was good and really looks nice and clean. Well priced. The food was tasty. The staff was nice and hospitable. Except the cashier was not pleasant. Find her a bit rude , my husband and I even said thank you but no reply. We were there Saturday 1230pm. Kindly check if she is appropriate for the job. Also, hope they add coffee on the menu given that its also a bakery. Overall a good experience. Nice to find a good filipino restaurant at the west.
M. F.
Home away from home. The food from my homeland made fresh and available every day just makes life more bearable when your stomach is filled to the brim
K. A.
Good food
D. L.
A wonderfully pleasant experience with authentic Filipino food and attentive service. My second time here but it will not be the last.
K. K.
I liked the crispy pork hock. Nice deco and atmosphere.
I. S.
if you feel like authentic Filipino food you must check it out they also have a bakery and so lunches and dinner .
N. R. S.
Highly recommended place if you're looking for a Filipino Restaurant. The food is very good and the establishment can accommodate plenty of people.
A.
Great food, great service. Floor layout feels like they tried to squeeze in as much seating as they could. On our first visit there was a karaoke in-house and while it was a unique experience, I wish it wasn't so obnoxiously loud that I couldn't hear what my parents were saying to me.
t. n.
The food was amazing!!!
Bakery stuff was very good too..
The staff are friendly, I would go back 100 times.
Just call them and book your table.
Do not forget to try the halo halo.

Best Filipino restaurant I've tried in Melbourne
r.
I came to Mama Lor after hearing a particularly scathing review, which wasn’t a great first impression. Still, I came in with my heart open as my favourite Filipino place had just closed down.
I came at a not-so busy Wednesday afternoon. We were promptly led to our seats. The ambience was lovely - a lot higher end than most Filipino places I’ve eaten at.
I ordered sizzling sisig and BBQ. We were given complimentary beef broth soup. The BBQ was nice enough - the flavour was delicious and tasted authentic, however the meat used didn’t feel like the BBQ you’d get back in the Philippines - the meat wasn’t tender enough.
The sisig did not taste like sisig, though it looked fine at first glance. It was bland, and they used a lot of pig fat as opposed to the ingredients that usually give sisig a chewier experience. The fat made me feel a little sick, as there was a lot of it for one dish.
I liked their ube hopia, though the ube macapuno didn’t have enough of the macapuno.
The food wasn’t offensively bad, but I wouldn’t call it authentic Filipino food. My non-Filipino friend enjoyed it.
Surcharge applies for some card purchases.
A. S.
The food was good, but we waited for almost an hour for it to be served. This Place can get really busy even on monday night, so would be better if you make a booking i reckon.
P.
Yummy filipino food and friendly, diverse staff!
M. M.
Your typical family Filipino Resto! Tip: good for large groups so you can a have a big meal.
S. P.
It was my first time to visit with my friends. All we can say is our overall experience is amazing! Nice ambience, mouthwatering dishes, not to mention their breads! You won't leave the place empty handed. Customer service is excellent <3 Will definitely go back.
b. r.
This is fast becoming a firm favourite for us. The staff are so friendly and the food is sensationally Filipino.
I can't get enough of the calamansi juice or the le chon kawali (although le chon serving should be better for the price paid for a large).
Will keep coming back here for reasonable value but always delicious.
S. T.
Felt like I was in down town Manila, excellent food and massive menu. Get some pandi coco to go and a few red horses to put you to bed.
B. C.
First impression: clean! That is so important to us when it comes to Filo restaurants. Highly recommend their bakery goods. Ensaymada was better than Mary Grace back home. Other Filo restaurants should follow their example when it comes to cleanliness and presentation. Not going to name and shame the other places but we seriously avoid anything that looks like you’re eating in Divisoria (gross).
We had lunch there on a Sunday and it was super busy so strongly suggest to make a booking. Held back a star because there were veggie dishes I couldn’t connect with. The Kankong Adobo was too sweet, tortang talong doesn’t look traditional. Maybe this is due to coming from different provinces and different palettes. Other than that highly recommended and the staff are friendly
K. D.
Best Filipino restaurant in Melbourne by far
E. R.
We took our friends here on the way home from Geelong during their soft opening a few weeks ago. The service is great and the food is of good quality. Definitely heaps better than the usual turo-turo/bainmarie style that we have in most Pinoy restaurants. We're glad that finally we have a resto here in the west at this standard. Best of luck to the owners of this restaurant and I hope that Pinoys support you.
M.
Our friends took us here. Anyway, the result was... we had food coma. 😂
Bulalo and the crispy pata were my favourites.
J. F.
Wow , fantastic authentic Philipino Cuisine. Very well priced. Great atmosphere and helpful staff. We are trying various dishes every visit send never been disappointed
G. M.
Meat dishes are authentic and delicious. Halo halo was disappointing the too much ice and very little ingredients the leche flan was tiny. They sting you with the price of Rice! $3 per small cup not enough to satisfy anyone.
C. R.
It amazes me when Filipino so easily hand out accolades of authenticity to the new kids on the block. This is not always authentic, even if it is tasty. As the owners say the source for their dishes seems to be Cebuano. The Kare Kare was certainly not the authentic dish one finds in Manila. No tripe, no heart of banana, no oxtail. A very tasty dish but not at all authentic. When you can get very good adobo and sinigang at much less cost locally you hope they survive.
C. M.
Good Filipino food. Very large portions - good for sharing.
R. O.
Lovely place, lovely people, great food and the best bread.
A. G.
Food is good. Enjoyed BBQ pork. Need some improvement in service, we have to ask twice for our drinks... however we love the Ensaymada 😋 it was freshly cooked.
B. G.
Very good food. Enjoyed it a lot.
O. D.
Great food selection. Freshly baked pandesal..
j. g.
Called on the day and got a booking for 6. Food was excellent and generous. Very accommodating staff. Fast service despite the amount of people eating there.
Will defintely come back!

One of the best Filo restaurant in the West. Ambiance, food, staffs are great. We've been here a couple of times and did not disappoint. Highly recommended!
S. M.
Excellent food! Excellent Service. Great to know there is now a Pinoy Restaurant with high standard of quality in the WestSide.of Melbourne. Highly recommend to all PinoyAussie to visit this new resto.

Traditional Filipino meals and deserts..Perfect..
Fun environment and very friendly staff
K. A.
Food was very good. It felt like I was back in the Philippines.
J. G.
I have been here 3 times already since Mama Lor opened and I am never disappointed. I took my Mum here for her birthday with 17 other people and the staff were so friendly and hospitable. The place is really busy but the staff advise you of the wait on the food, which is pretty accurate. Highlights were the Crispy Pata, Sweet and Sour Fish, Garlic Rice, Pancit Bihon, Roast Chicken, Kare Kare (with bagoong) and for dessert, you can’t go past their Ube and macapuno cake 🍰. Remember to book a table before going as you may have to wait a while.
R. G.
Good Filipino food, excellent decor, reasonable price. Will definitely be back.
H.
Just like home! We always walk away with full bellies and a big bag of their baked goods!
M. A.
Service is prompt and the food is nice. They're packed today. We had some takeaway
D. B.
Fantastic Food. Friendly staff.
G. B.
Feels like home. Great food, great staff, great place to eat. Love it 5 stars for me😊😊😊😊
A. C.
Food is great! Ambience can be a bit noisy due to live band.
S. F.
I really wanted this place to be good as there aren't many Filipino restaurants in this area, unfortunately it just fell a bit flat... wasn't terrible, but not great either.
First off overall the portion sizes were pretty small for the price of the meals, especially the sisig.
The sisig was really liquidy, which may be their version of the dish, but I've had maybe 100 in my life and none have ever been that wet!
They make you pay extra for the egg, which is silly as it's normally part of the dish.
But worst of all the dish was just bland, the main flavour was capsicum and it overpowered what little other flavours were there.
The Lechon was decent, with crispy skin and yummy mang tomas sauce to dip, but again small portioned.
Garlic Rice was good, a decent portion though a little expensive.
The highlight (and the reason we will go back and give it another go in future) was the Ube Macapuno cake. Now this was delicious! One of my favourite desserts ever and this place does it well.
Looking forward to trying more of their desserts.
Hoping the next time we go it'll be better.
J. G.
Good Philippinos food. Good service and by the crowds very popular. Most guests were Philippinos
T. P.
Great food! Generous servings. So good.
b. t.
Bakery items are pukka, ube hopia are my favourite by far.meals are good, mixed rice is really good, mains are pleasant
L. S.
Food is nice and reasonable price. One star off from Rice being expensive haha
N. S.
They sell good filipino asian food and I love it cuz I'm filipino

The ambiance and the vibes of the place are very Pinoy style 100% Happy place.
The food we ordered the baby squid adobo it's ok and not. The Pork Lumpia shanghai, it's really good but needs to serve with sauce. The Inihaw na baboy needs to be less fat and better to cut it before serving it to the customer for me.
The price is a bit pricey for me coz the food is not that much "small servings"
All the breads are really good 100%
