Comments of Maori Chief Hotel
D. W.
They show Super Rugby. That's a big plus in this AFL crazy state, and it may be enough to get me back.
The beer... A few choices including some NZ options, which is nice.
The food... The second round of sausage rolls (not the vegetarian ones) was great!
K. R.
What a cracker of a pub, excellent food and awesome staff.
And that picture of James' dad....

How good is this for lunch.....this place rocks, food is always outstanding and the service is awesome....thanks for being open again.
L. K.
They have a great fireplace in the back. Good place to watch sport when it’s on tv

Best pub in South Melbourne. Controversial, but I'm a big fan.
Here me out. South Melbourne is full of pubs that just look nice. Fancy wallpaper and menus with puns instead of food names. But what's a fancy looking pub if the food is horrible, the beers on tap are generic, and the service is non existent?
The Maori doesn't try to look like the pubs it's competing with. It's just doing its own thing and it's doing it well. Good beer on tap and good pub food on the menu. I wouldn't take a date here, but it's far better than the overpriced, over designed pubs that try harder than I did in high school. Maori isn't trying to impress you, which ironically is what impresses me.

Good food and selection of beers, with friendly staff. A "proper" pub. Supportive of local and emerging musicians as well as catering for patrons who just want to play pool, watch sports or have a beer and chat.

The parmas here are super tasty, and the craft beer options are basic but good. Loses a star because it's a pretty basic pub in terms of ambience, but it's fine for Friday pub lunch and the service is mostly pretty good, and did comes out mostly pretty quickly. Their group dining service could be improved, though.
A. A.
Nothing that spectacular about this place, however, bar menu was definitely interesting. Some nice options for a parma and almost the usual collection of beer on tap. They do have a pool table and there is often live music. Special meal deals every day.
D. B.
Delicious food at a great value. Friendly and attentive staff doing a really great job, especially dealing with wi-fi and tv issues. A great local find!
M. S.
Decent selection of beers available on tap. You can catch some live music here depending on when you come in. This hotel looks and feels like a classic pub, and offers the traditional pub experience.

Don't judge this pub from the outside, we had the best night catching up with 20+ family members. Service was great and we couldn't believe how good all our meals were. Cheap and cheerful! Can't wait to go back next time in Melbourne 👍
G. A.
Excellent establishment, good selection of kiwi beers, fantastic place to watch the sun go down from the upstairs outdoor area. Good old pub. Food is decent with vego options. Burgers are the burgers.
C. G.
Caught up with friends who suggested that this was a good place for Dinner. The idea was good, service was good and the prices were okay but my steak was over cooked. (I asked for a rare and got well done). In saying this I would try it again.
S. M.
Great atmosphere, enthusiastic staff and excellent beer selection. The food is top-knotch as well.
A.
Visited for lunch and ordered the chicken burger. Good dose of chicken, fresh bread, and cole slaw. Quiet environment for lunch but I can imagine it’d be a great place to visit to watch a sporting event.
K. R.
The place is quite old and run down but that's what the vibe is all about. Super relaxed and easy. A pool table, live music and great pub specials. We went on Parma night (thursday) and I had a spicey Parma it was sooooo good! So nice hidden gem!
T.
Went to see some music on a Wednesday night, band was fantastic, service was good but I made a rookie error with menu choice. Everyone else's meals looked good, but veggie pizza a massive fail.

Good old school pub in the south of Melbourne..looks family run.. if your after that old school charm and a cold pint just outside of the city its probably the best you'll find these days.
K. H.
Celebrating a 70th birthday, dinner and drinks mostly Kiwis in the group and first timers to the Maori Chief Hotel, the menu was ok, and alot had ordered, being a Saturday night parking is hard to come after 7pm. Other than that, enjoyed ourselves, service was good and we all left content. 30+ in group.
J.
Classic old pub with an open fire and a rooftop beer garden. Consistently good food and drink. It's nice to always see familiar faces so I know I'm not the only one who keeps coming back.
H. K.
The place is not pretentious. Doesn't pretend to be a brewpub. Sells beer and food, doing an excellent job. Want a pub that sells beer? Go here and buy (great) beer
G. F.
A hidden gem! Great food and great conversation.

A Good Old Fashioned Aussie Pub with a Kiwi name. Small, cosy bar, dining area, function room and tooftop deck all make for a pleasant hospitality experience especially the staff ♡♡♡...

Finally got to come with my NZ missus, spent couple of hours with barman Andy and locals.
Had a bowl of chips which were perfectly yummy, special parmesan lamb cutlets- delicious, and the chilli parma, was exactly what i needed. awesome food !!! And the montieth ciders refreshing.
Roof top great clear views of the city.
Will come back wednesdays to see live bands.
P. M.
Came for $15 Parma night... will return any night for the Chilli Parma. As a lover of hot food Im often left disappointed when selecting something spicy from menu, not at the Maori Chief. Great food, low key vibe, awesome pub.
C. G.
Good food and they coped well with our large group. Improve the beer offering and you'll get 5 stars
J.
Very friendly staff. Food and drink is reasonably priced, with decent serving sizes. Ordered a cheeseburger with chips for $15. Would definitely go again.

Great place to pop in & watch the Rugby & have a kiwi beer or two! A must if your in the area!
There is a story that I was told about a famous Moari Chief that came to Melbourne looking for the Queen to talk about his lands that had be taken from his tribe. He was told that the Queen lived in England so he requested a meeting.
After many months of waiting he and his Warriors who camped on or near by the Maori Chief's location headed off to meet the Queen.
The meeting did indeed take place and there message was listened to by the Queen & a agreement was reached!
The Warriors and the Chief returned to Melbourne on route to New Zealand.
Pitty the Chief didn't buy the camp site maybe would have been a better deal than what he and his tribe where given!
Nice story can anyone add to his?
A. D.
Great atmosphere and friendly people!!
Love the Parmas here
A. J.
A nice little pub with a bland and quite un-inviting menu. Not very different to most other pubs in the area except for the nice terrace, which is quite enjoyable when weather agrees.
R. J. R.
Hadn't been in for a long time, went back last night and was welcomed like an old friend, same great value with a $15 steak counter meal, food was good, and good portions
